The distinction between dancing as a fine art and dancing as entertainment should be clear. It is sometimes difficult for the audience to makes the distinction, but the purpose of his performance should at all times be unmixed in the mind of the dancer. The field of the recitalist is generally speaking that of the fine arts, but the recitalist is as yet an amateur. The professional field--certainly in the U.S.--is given to entertainment, and in this field the ballet is supreme.
