Abstract

The article presents information on the Elementz Hip Hop Youth Arts Center. The center offers classes in the four elements of hip-hop, emceeing, deejaying, graffiti art and dance. The hope is that kids will learn to express themselves and find constructive outlets for their creativity. Elementz is designed to be flexible; it's not about molding kids as adults see fit. Other than a few basic ground rules, there are no rules. The center is the brainchild of Leonard, West End barbershop owner Islord Allah and his brother, Life, and Durcka Bonds, a consultant to the YDREAM Project, an HIV/AIDS prevention group. Elementz, grew out of their desire to reach kids in communities still seething from pre and post-riot turmoil.
