We are carrying out the GPPS survey by using the FAST, the most sensitive systematic pulsar survey in the Galactic plane. In addition to about 500 pulsars already discovered through normal periodical search, we report here the discovery of 76 new transient radio sources with sporadic strong pulses, detected by using the newly developed module for a sensitive single pulse search. Their small DM values suggest that they all are the Galactic RRATs. More radio pulses have been detected from 26 transient radio sources but no periods can be found due to a limited small number of pulses from all FAST observations. The following-up observations show that 16 transient sources are newly identified as being the prototypes of RRATs with a period already determined from more detected sporadic pulses, 10 sources are extremely nulling pulsars, and 24 sources are weak pulsars with sparse strong pulses. On the other hand, 48 previously known RRATs have been detected by the FAST. Except for 1 RRAT with four pulses detected in a session of five minute observation and 4 RRATs with only one pulse detected in a session, sensitive FAST observations reveal that 43 RRATs are just generally weak pulsars with sporadic strong pulses or simply very nulling pulsars, so that the previously known RRATs always have an extreme emission state together with a normal hardly detectable weak emission state. This is echoed by the two normal pulsars J1938+2213 and J1946+1449 with occasional brightening pulses. Though strong pulses of RRATs are very outstanding in the energy distribution, their polarization angle variations follow the polarization angle curve of the averaged normal pulse profile, suggesting that the predominant sparse pulses of RRATs are emitted in the same region with the same geometry as normal weak pulsars., Comment: Published in RAA

Artificially engineered 2D materials offer unique physical properties for thermal management, surpassing naturally occurring materials. Here, using van der Waals epitaxy, we demonstrate the ability to engineer extremely insulating ultra-thin thermal metamaterials based on crystalline lattice-mismatched Bi2Se3/MoSe2 superlattices and graphene/PdSe2 heterostructures with exceptional thermal resistances (70-202 m^2K/GW) and ultralow cross-plane thermal conductivities (0.01-0.07 Wm^-1K^-1) at room temperature, comparable to those of amorphous materials. Experimental data obtained using frequency-domain thermoreflectance and low-frequency Raman spectroscopy, supported by tight-binding phonon calculations, reveal the impact of lattice mismatch, phonon-interface scattering, size effects, temperature and interface thermal resistance on cross-plane heat dissipation, uncovering different thermal transport regimes and the dominant role of long-wavelength phonons. Our findings provide essential insights into emerging synthesis and thermal characterization methods and valuable guidance for the development of large-area heteroepitaxial van der Waals films of dissimilar materials with tailored thermal transport characteristics., Comment: 25 page 4 figures

The lack of efficient segmentation methods and fully-labeled datasets limits the comprehensive assessment of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) microstructures like retinal vessel network (RVN) and foveal avascular zone (FAZ), which are of great value in ophthalmic and systematic diseases evaluation. Here, we introduce an innovative OCTA microstructure segmentation network (OMSN) by combining an encoder-decoder-based architecture with multi-scale skip connections and the split-attention-based residual network ResNeSt, paying specific attention to OCTA microstructural features while facilitating better model convergence and feature representations. The proposed OMSN achieves excellent single/multi-task performances for RVN or/and FAZ segmentation. Especially, the evaluation metrics on multi-task models outperform single-task models on the same dataset. On this basis, a fully annotated retinal OCTA segmentation (FAROS) dataset is constructed semi-automatically, filling the vacancy of a pixel-level fully-labeled OCTA dataset. Federated learning is a contemporary machine learning paradigm where locally trained models are distilled into a global model. Due to the intrinsic permutation invariance of neural networks, Probabilistic Federated Neural Matching (PFNM) employs a Bayesian nonparametric framework in the generation process of local neurons, and then creates a linear sum assignment formulation in each alternative optimization iteration. But according to our theoretical analysis, the optimization iteration in PFNM omits global information from existing. In this study, we propose a novel approach that overcomes this flaw by introducing a Kullback-Leibler divergence penalty at each iteration. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated by experiments on both image classification and semantic segmentation tasks.

Coherent diffraction imaging (CDI) is a promising imaging technique revealing most of the information from diffraction measurements. An ideal CDI should reconstruct complex-valued object from a single-shot far-field diffraction without any priori information about the target. To realize the ideal CDI, we propose a class of parameter-robust illumination pattern. A direct phase optimizing algorithm is also raised here to improve the performance of phase retrieval in strong noise. Experimental result demonstrates the efficiency of our scheme in practical noisy measurement for complex-valued target.

Optical interferometers are pillars of modern precision metrology, but their resolution is limited by the wavelength of the light source, which cannot be infinitely reduced. Magically, this limitation can be circumvented by using an entangled multiphoton source because interference produced by an N-photon amplitude features a reduced de Broglie wavelength {\lambda}/N. However, the extremely low efficiency in multiphoton state generation and coincidence counts actually negates the potential of using multiphoton states in practical measurements. Here, we demonstrate a novel interferometric technique based on structured nonlinear optics, i.e., parametric upconversion of a structured beam, capable of superresolution measurement in real time. The main principle relies in that the orbital angular momentum (OAM) state and associated intramodal phase within the structured beam are both continuously multiplied in cascading upconversion to mimic the superresolved phase evolution of a multiphoton amplitude. Owing to the use of bright sensing beams and OAM mode projection, up to a 12-photon de Broglie wavelength with almost perfect visibility is observed in real time and, importantly, by using only a low-cost detector. Our results open the door to real-time superresolution interferometric metrology and provide a promising way toward multiphoton superiority in practical applications.

The microscopic understanding of high-temperature superconductivity in cuprates has been hindered by the apparent complexity of crystal structures in these materials. We used scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to study an electron-doped copper oxide compound Sr$_{1-x}$Nd$_x$CuO$_2$ that has only bare cations separating the CuO$_2$ planes and thus the simplest infinite-layer structure among all cuprate superconductors. Tunneling conductance spectra of the major CuO$_2$ planes in the superconducting state revealed direct evidence for a nodeless pairing gap, regardless of variation of its magnitude with the local doping of trivalent neodymium. Furthermore, three distinct bosonic modes are observed as multiple peak-dip-hump features outside the superconducting gaps and their respective energies depend little on the spatially varying gaps. Along with the bosonic modes with energies identical to those of the external, bending and stretching phonons of copper oxides, our findings indicate their origin from lattice vibrations rather than spin excitations., Comment: 16 Pages, 4 figures, 5 supplemental figures

In the modern electronics overheating is one of the major reasons for device failure. Overheating causes irreversible damage to circuit components and can also lead to fire, explosions, and injuries. Accordingly, in the advent of 2D material-based electronics, an understanding of their thermal properties in addition to their electric ones is crucial to enable efficient transfer of excess heat away from the electronic components. In this work we propose structures based on free-standing, few-layer, nanopatterned MoS2 that insulate and guide heat in the in-plane direction. We arrive at these designs via a thorough study of the in-plane thermal conductivity as a function of thickness, porosity, and temperature in both pristine and nanopatterned MoS2 membranes. Two-laser Raman thermometry was employed to measure the thermal conductivities of a set of free-standing MoS2 flakes with diameters greater than 20 um and thicknesses from 5 to 40 nm, resulting in values from 30 to 85 W/mK, respectively. After nanopatterning a square lattice of 100-nm diameter holes with a focused ion beam we have obtained a greater than 10-fold reduction of the thermal conductivities for the period of 500 nm and values below 1 W/mK for the period of 300 nm. The results were supported by equilibrium molecular dynamic simulations for both pristine and nanopatterned MoS2. The selective patterning of certain areas results in extremely large difference in thermal conductivities within the same material. Exploitation of this effect enabled for the first time thermal insulation and heat guiding in the few-layer MoS2. The patterned regions act as high thermal resistors: we obtained a thermal resistance of 4x10-6 m2K/W with only four patterned lattice periods of 300 nm, highlighting the significant potential of MoS2 for thermal management applications.

The Transition Edge Sensor is extremely sensitive to the change of temperature, combined with the high-Z metal of a certain thickness, it can realize the high energy resolution measurement of particles such as X-rays. X-rays with energies below 10 keV have very weak penetrating ability, so only a few microns thick of gold or bismuth can obtain quantum efficiency higher than 70\%. Therefore, the entire structure of the TES X-ray detector in this energy range can be realized in the microfabrication process. However, for X-rays or gamma rays from 10 keV to 200 keV, sub-millimeter absorber layers are required, which cannot be realized by microfabrication process. This paper first briefly introduces a set of TES X-ray detectors and their auxiliary systems built by ShanghaiTech University, then focus on the introduction of the TES $\gamma$-ray detector, with absorber based on an sub-millimeter lead-tin alloy sphere. The detector has a quantum efficiency above 70\% near 100 keV, and an energy resolution of about 161.5eV@59.5keV., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures

Phonons play a key role in the physical properties of materials, and have long been a topic of study in physics. While the effects of phonons had historically been considered to be a hindrance, modern research has shown that phonons can be exploited due to their ability to couple to other excitations and consequently affect the thermal, dielectric, and electronic properties of solid state systems, greatly motivating the engineering of phononic structures. Advances in nanofabrication have allowed for structuring and phonon confinement even down to the nanoscale, drastically changing material properties. Despite developments in fabricating such nanoscale devices, the proper manipulation and characterization of phonons continues to be challenging. However, a fundamental understanding of these processes could enable the realization of key applications in diverse fields such as topological phononics, information technologies, sensing, and quantum electrodynamics, especially when integrated with existing electronic and photonic devices. Here, we highlight seven of the available methods for the excitation and detection of acoustic phonons and vibrations in solid materials, as well as advantages, disadvantages, and additional considerations related to their application. We then provide perspectives towards open challenges in nanophononics and how the additional understanding granted by these techniques could serve to enable the next generation of phononic technological applications., Comment: 50 pages

A focused jet is generated from a concave free surface through an impact of a tube. Experimental and numerical studies were conducted to explore the viscous influences. The results show that a strong vorticity sheet is generated along the free surface just after impact, and the liquid bulk is initialized ($t\le$$10^{-4}$s). After the impact, the liquid surface evolves freely and a jet is ejected ($t\gg$$10^{-4}$s). Pronounced tangential flow is found, and the material in the jet mainly originates from the viscous penetrating layer below the free surface. According to the above observations, a vorticity mechanism of the free surface evolution is proposed. Further, by combining the viscous and interfacial tension effects, a scaling relation estimating the jetting velocity is derived, which agrees with the numerical and experimental results well.
