Abstract

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have great potential for display, lighting, and near-infrared (NIR) applications due to their outstanding advantages such as high efficiency, low power consumption, and flexibility. Recently, it has been found that the ultrathin emitting nanolayer technology plays a key role in OLEDs with simplified structures through the undoped fabricated process, and exciplex-forming hosts can enhance the efficiency and stability of OLEDs. However, the elementary structure and mechanism of the energy transfer process of ultrathin emitting nanolayers within interface exciplexes are still unclear. 171. Dodecahydrododecaborate anion cluster-reduced nano-Au-decorated graphene oxide for 100% hydrogenation of nitroaromatics

Abstract

The reduction of nitroaromatics is important in industrial wastewater treatment. However, the activity of an external catalyst is critical for the reaction. In this study, Au nanocrystals were anchored in situ on two-dimensional graphene oxide (GO), which had oxygen-rich groups on its surface. Oxygen-containing groups combined to form functional boron clusters through hydrogen bond interactions (BGO). The mild reducibility of a dodecahydrododecaborate anion cluster (closo-[B12H12]2−) made ultrafine Au nanocrystals uniformly disperse on GO (Au/BGO). 4-Nitrophenol and other nitro-aromatic hydrocarbons could be rapidly hydrogenated into aminoaromatic hydrocarbons by Au/BGO, and the hydrogenation efficiency was approximately 100%. It retained high catalytic activity after 16 catalytic cycles. Therefore, the proposed innovative preparation strategy and high catalytic activity indicate the advancement of closo-[B12H12]2− as a nucleation target for nanometals. Abstract

Since seawater is one of the most abundant resources on earth, seawater electrolysis is becoming increasingly attractive for clean energy/hydrogen production. Although significant progress has been made recently, it is still challenging to obtain bifunctional electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity and durability suitable for seawater electrolysis because of the scarcity of precious metals and inadequate state-of-the-art materials for the overall reaction. The development of high-performance bifunctional electrocatalysts is crucial to the commercialization of overall seawater electrolysis and in this review, the mechanism and challenges of seawater electrolysis are introduced. Optimization strategies for different types of non-noble-metal-based electrocatalysts including structural regulation, interface regulation, doping regulation, in situ assembly, alloying, and amorphization are summarized to elucidate the relationship among composition, structure, and properties. Finally, the challenge and prospective for future development of non-noble-metal-based bifunctional catalysts are discussed. This paper aims at providing guidance and insights into the rational design of highly efficient catalytic materials for practical seawater splitting.

Abstract

Metal‑nitrogen‑carbon materials (M-N-C) have attracted much attention due to their low cost, high abundance, and efficient catalytic performance. Nevertheless, Fe-N-C materials are considered the most promising oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts for replacing noble metals. Ce is chemically active and has many metal valence states, and empty orbitals that can participate in coordination. On this basis, Fe, Ce-codoped catalyst was constructed in this study. The synergistic effect of the dual metal centers was verified, and a Fe, Ce-codoped nitrogen-doped carbon (FeCeNC) with six equal branch angles was proposed. The half-wave potential for the ORR catalyzed by FeCeNC is 0.855 V. As a rechargeable Zn-air battery cathode catalyst, FeCeNC exhibits excellent electrochemical performances, with an open-circuit voltage of 1.427 V, a maximum power density of 169.2 mW cm−2 and a stable cycling time of 80 h, demonstrating an excellent cycle performance.

Abstract

As a novel wide bandgap semiconductor, ε phase Ga2O3 is characterized by an extremely high polarization coefficient and could be applied in different kinds of piezoelectric or electronic devices. However, to date, the growth technologies of ε-Ga2O3 have been so limited that high quality ε-Ga2O3 is still unavailable. In this work, ε-Ga2O3 thin films were grown on c-plane sapphire substrates by metal–organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using a two-step method. The effect of using N2O as an oxygen precursor for the epitaxial growth of ε-Ga2O3 is investigated. The phase purity and growth mode of Ga2O3 thin films are investigated for samples prepared under different conditions. Phase transition takes place depending on the VI/III ratio, which is explained by the interplay of thermodynamic and kinetic effects. At a growth temperature of 600 °C, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the ε-Ga2O3 (004) plane rocking curve is as low as 0.20°, demonstrating that N2O could be a potential precursor for the MOCVD growth of ε-Ga2O3. Abstract

Ambient NH3 electrosynthesis from NO reduction reaction (NORR) is attractive in replacing the industrial Haber‐Bosch route; however, the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in aqueous electrolyte typically induces a limited selectivity and activity toward NH3 production. Herein, hierarchical P‐doped MoS2 nanospheres are developed as the NORR electrocatalyst in an ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte for catalyzing the reduction of NO to NH3 with a maximal Faradaic efficiency of 69 % (−0.6 V vs RHE) and a peak yield rate of 388.3 μg h−1 mgcat.−1 (−0.7 V vs RHE), both of which are comparable to the best‐reported results. Moreover, the catalyst also shows stable NORR activity over 30 h and 6 cycles. Theoretical analyses further reveal that the P dopants in MoS2 facilitate the activation and hydrogenation of NO. Besides, the employment of hydrophobic IL electrolyte also slows down the HER kinetics effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In-depth understandings of charge carrier transfer dynamics in any artificial catalytic system are of critical importance for the future design of highly efficient photocatalysts. Herein, we synthesized sub-monolayer ZnSe partial-shell coated CdSe/CdS core/shell quantum dots in a controlled fashion. The ZnSe decorated quantum dots were employed as a model catalyst for photogeneration of H2 under light illumination. Both theoretical calculations and experimental results unravel that the growth of ZnSe partial-shell would retard the photogenerated electron transfer, and meanwhile, accelerate the corresponding hole migration process during the H2 photogeneration reaction in the artificial photocatalytic system. As such, the performance of the relevant photocatalytic system can be modulated and optimized, and accordingly, a plausible underlying mechanism is rationalized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
