The high incidence of Candida albicans infections has raised concerns regarding side effects and drug resistance, compounded by a limited number of alternative drugs. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have prominent antimicrobial activity, but effective administration remains a challenge. In this study, AgNPs were synthesized via a green chemistry approach, using glucose as a reducing agent, and incorporated into an agar matrix to form a film (AgFilm). The AgNPs and AgFilm were characterized by Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopic (AFM). The UV-Vis spectra of the AgNPs and AgFilm showed bands at 415 and 413 nm, respectively. The PXRD and UV-Vis data suggest that the growth of AgNPs was effectively inhibited in the AgFilm. The diameter of AgNPs dispersed in AgFilm was 76 ± 42 nm, and the thickness of the film and 35 ± 3 µm. The antifungal activity of AgFilm was evaluated against 20 strains of C. albicans, demonstrating high antifungal activity with an inhibition zone of 19 ± 2 mm. Ziziphus joazeiro Mart. is an endemic plant of the Caatinga that presents a great socioeconomic importance for the Northeast and Semiarid Region of Brazil. In view of this, this study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity and anxiolytic-like effects of Ziziphus joazeiro Mart leaves in adult zebrafish ( Danio rerio ). The characterization of the main classes of metabolites was performed through chemical reactions. The antibacterial and antibiotic potentiating activity was evaluated by broth microdilution assays. The 96 h acute toxicity, open field test and anxiety models test was evaluated in vivo on adult zebrafish. The results obtained in the phytochemical prospection evidenced the presence of flobabenic tannins, leucoanthocyanidins, flavonois, flavonones, catechins, alkaloids, steroids, and triterpenoids. EEFZJ did not show antibacterial activity for all microorganism tested (MIC ≥ 1024 µg/mL), but reduced the concentration required for bacterial growth inhibition in combination with gentamicin and norfloxacin against multidrug-resistant strains of S. aureus (SA10) and E. coli (EC06), exhibiting synergistic effect with these antibiotics ( p <0.0001). Dating back to the late Early Cretaceous, the macrofossil record of the iconic lotus family (Nelumbonaceae) is one of the oldest of flowering plants and suggests that their unmistakable leaves and nutlets embedded in large pitted receptacular fruits evolved relatively little in the 100 million years since their first known appearance. Here we describe a new fossil from the late Barremian/Aptian Crato Formation flora (NE Brazil) with both vegetative and reproductive structures, Notocyamus hydrophobus gen. nov. et sp. nov., which is now the oldest and most complete fossil record of Nelumbonaceae. In addition, it displays a unique mosaic of ancestral and derived macro- and micromorphological traits that has never been documented before in this family. This new Brazilian fossil-species also provides a rare illustration of the potential morphological and anatomical transitions experienced by Nelumbonaceae prior to a long period of relative stasis. Its potential plesiomorphic and apomorphic features shared with Proteaceae and Platanaceae not only fill a major morphological gap within Proteales but also provide new support for their unexpected relationships first suggested by molecular phylogenies., (© 2023. This article analyzes the communication of the cover image of the National Policy for Comprehensive Health of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites, and Transgender. This is a qualitative-descriptive study with image analysis conducted in the light of Judith Butler's concepts. The textual corpus included 13 texts, six pictures, and the background. The main colors used were black and blue. The human figures that perform the male gender are superimposed upon those of the female gender. The texts only situate the content of the document as public policy. The principle of knowledge disseminated was gender identity, and this term was identified more frequently. The cover of the document reinforces stereotypes by representing traditional gender performances in a fixed way and disregarding the political use of the colors of the movement it purports to represent.

Chagas disease (CD) is a tropical disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted by the barber insect. Currently, there are approximately 7 million infected people in the world, and it is estimated that 70 million people could contract this disease. The anacardic acid (AA) showed effectiveness in in silico and in vitro tests. The antichagasic potential of five sulfonamide molecules, derived from anacardic acid, was evaluated from a molecular approach based on the density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD), and molecular docking (docking) calculations. Methyl 2-methoxy-6- (8- (methylsulfonamide) octyl) benzoate (SA1); 2-methoxy-6- (8- (phenylsulfonamide) octyl) benzoate (SA2); methyl 2-methoxy-6- (8- (2methylphenyl sulfonamide) octyl) benzoate (SA3); methyl 2-methoxy-6- (8-(methylphenylsulfonamide)octyl)benzoate (SA4); methyl2-(8-(2,5-dimethylphenylsulfonamide)octyl)-6-methoxybenzoate (SA5) were the investigated molecules. The DFT calculations were performed using the B3LYP/6-311+G (d, p) level of theory. The global and local reactivity data showed that SA1 shows the highest molecular reactivity, while SA2 is the most stable derivative. In addition, the structures of investigated molecules were confirmed by the linear correlations higher than 0.98 displayed between the experimental and calculated spectroscopic data (IR and NMR). Molecular docking of the molecules showed a greater prominence for the SA1, SA2, and SA4 molecules in the results of distances of ligand-cruzain. The fossil shrimp Somalis piauiensis n. gen. n. sp. is a new fossil record of Penaeoidea from the Araripe Basin. The purpose of this study is to describe a new decapod crustacean from the Romualdo Formation of the Santana Group and compare it with other fossil Dendrobranchiata described from this basin. The new fossil is characterized by a carapace with antennal and branchiostegal spines. Long rostrum, with thirteen evident dorsal spines yielding a serrate appearance. The laminar scaphocerite is large with a weakly rounded lateral margin and is longer than the rostrum. The fossil specimen is the first occurrence of shrimp in the Piauí territory.

Objective: To reflect on the usefulness of the concepts of the Tidal Model in nursing care for adolescents deprived of liberty., Method: Critical reflection of the theory, according to the evaluation proposed by Meleis, focusing on the usefulness of the theory, based on the practice criterion, according to the unit of analysis applicability of the theory., Results: The Tidal Model is composed of concepts that allow the understanding of the context in which the adolescent deprived of liberty is inserted and prepare nurses for the operationalization of their clinical practice aimed at this adolescent, enabling the professional to observe its limits, such as issues related to social reintegration, which requires intersectoral partnerships, and the need for anchoring in other theories., Final Considerations: The concepts of the Tidal Model are useful and can be applied to the nursing care provided to adolescents in situation of deprivation of liberty, promoting the centrality of care for this adolescent.

We report on the presence of the ixodid tick Amblyomma helvolum on three species of reptiles from Timor-Leste. Among a total of 21 host specimens (lizards: 18 four-fingered skinks, Carlia sp. 'Meleotegi' and two forest skinks, Sphenomorphus sp. 'Meleotegi'; snake: one Coelognathus subradiatus) four were parasitized by ticks. Whereas nymphs were associated with the lizards, an adult male was retrieved from the snake. This report is the first of A. helvolum for Timor-Leste, the first for the skink genera Carlia and Sphenomorphus, and the first for C. subradiatus. Mixture design is a statistical tool used to obtain the maximum desired effect using the minimum number of experiments. The aim of the presented work was the optimization of the composition of a mixture of essential oils from basil, citronella, cedarwood and thyme using simplex-lattice mixture design method. The optimized parameter was an antioxidant activity measured in DPPH assay and expressed as effective concentration (EC 50 ). The test results showed an interesting synergy between the components of essential oils. The prepared binary and quaternary mixtures were characterized by higher activity than simple average activity. The designed mixture with approximated highest antioxidant activity was composed of: 54.4% citronella essential oil, 33.0% thyme essential oil, 9.2% cedarwood essential oil and 3.4% basil essential oil and its approximated activity was in agreement with experimental values. This work confirmed that it is possible to approximate the best antioxidant composition of four essential oils used as a potential medicinal and food ingredient.

This research reports a series of phase transitions in the decanoic-acid (DA) crystal under low-temperature conditions, which were elucidated by XRD, Raman scattering and DFT calculations in a dimer of DA in the C form (monoclinic structure). The first phase change was noticed within the 210-190 K interval duly characterized as a transition of second-order type, as indicated by Gibbs energy behavior, suggesting that the monoclinic structure (P2 1 /c) of the crystal is not changed. The second change was observed nearly 110-90 K, whose transition is first-order type occurring from the C form to an A form (triclinic), possibly belonging to the P1 space group. This new polymorphic phase was duly predicted through DFT calculations. According to Gibbs energy behavior, the third phase change (∼30-10 K) is proposed to be a transition from the A form to a new polymorphic phase that probably is a first-order transition, likely associated with a change from the P1 space group to P-1. Furthermore, group theory and wavenumber vs temperature plots' analyses corroborated the phase transitions undergone by DA crystal. In addition, anharmonicity effects in several Raman bands' behavior were noticed during the cooling. Chalcones are present in a wide variety of plants, having in their structure two aromatic rings that are linked together by a chain composed of three carbon atoms with α, β-unsaturated to carbonyl system. Bacteria have several drug resistance mechanisms, among them the efflux pump; this mechanism, when active, is able to expel different compounds from inside bacterial cells. Several efflux pumps have already been identified for Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, including MepA and NorA. Many chalcones have been isolated and identified with various activities, such as antimicrobial. In view of this, this article aimed to evaluate the antibiotic modifying effect of chalcone (E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(3-nitrophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one against S. aureus carrier of NorA and MepA efflux pump. Regarding the antibiotic, there was a synergism when associated with ciprofloxacin in SA-K2068 strain, showing this chalcone as an alternative to reverse the resistance to this medicine. The physicochemical properties calculated were fundamental in the description of the predicted pharmacokinetic properties. Despite the mutagenic risk caused by the metabolic activation of nitrochalcone, it is possible to notice a pharmacological principle in a longer half-life for the performance of biological activities. The Web-based Executive Functioning Questionnaire (Webexec) is a brief scale developed to assess executive functions via online format. It has been used in different contexts, but its adaptation to other cultures is still restricted. This study aimed to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Webexec for a Brazilian sample considering the psychometric properties of the scale. This study used a sample of 295 Brazilian participants, with a mean age equal to 20.69 ( SD  = 6.030). This is a longitudinal study with reapplication of the scale six weeks after the test phase. Classical and contemporary methods were applied to analyze the psychometric properties of the Webexec. The results showed that the scale presented excellent psychometric properties for the Brazilian version, considering validity evidence based on the content and internal structure of Webexec, as well as reliability and precision. However, it is considered that other relational and experimental studies should be carried out with a larger sample size and for different population groups.

Parents' perception of the environment may influence the time spent in outdoor physical activities in pre-school children. This study aimed to analyze the association between parents' perception of the environment and outdoor physical activities outside the school in low-income preschoolers. In total, 129 preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years (4.4 years ± 0.7 years, 50% boys) and their parents participated in the study. An adapted version of the Neighborhood Environmental Walkability Scale was used to obtain parents' environmental perceptions. Outdoor physical activities was measured based on two questions considering the usual time spent in these activities during week and weekend days. Information on sociodemographic was collected by interview. Logistic regression was used to analyze the associations. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS, version 21.0. Most preschoolers (76.9%) had ≤ 2 hours/day in outdoor physical activities during the week while at the weekend, 65.9% reached > 2 hours. Parents' perception of unsafe traffic (OR = 0.39; p = 0.03) was associated with higher chances for a shorter time in outdoor physical activities both during the week and at the weekend (OR = 0.46; p = 0.04). Moreover, preschoolers' whose parents perceive a lack of places to walk (OR = 0.33; p = 0.02) and unsafe night time (OR = 0.36; p = 0.04) are more likely to spend less time in outdoor physical activities during the week. After adjustments for sociodemographic confounders, the perception of unsafe traffic (OR = 0.26; p = 0.01) and places to walk (OR = 0.15; p = 0.01) were predictors of preschooler's shorter time in outdoor physical activities during the week. Parents' perception of unsafe traffic and places to walk were associated with less time in outdoor physical activities in low-income preschoolers.

Reptiles, as well as other vertebrate groups, harbour a significant diversity of parasitic organisms, from nematodes and other helminths to viruses and bacteria. The Northeast is one of the richest regions in Brazil in terms of the reptile diversity, number of species and endemism. Parasites are diverse organisms and knowledge about the parasitic fauna of vertebrates is an important factor in understanding the ecological relationships between hosts and the environment. Studies on the parasitic fauna of reptiles in South America have increased in the past few years. The present review is a compilation of 122 studies published from 1924 to 2021. We present information on 101 species of reptiles from five groups (amphisbaenians, crocodile, testudines, snakes and lizards) and 183 parasitic taxa belonging to four phyla: Nematoda; Arthropoda; Platyhelminthes; and Acanthocephala. Nematodes were the most frequently recorded species. Lizards and snakes had more records of parasitism and higher levels of parasite richness and diversity. Ceará was the state with most studies and recorded cases of parasite-host association. The Caatinga and Atlantic Forest were the most investigated environments. The objective of this review was to contribute knowledge on the parasitic biodiversity in reptiles from Northeast Brazil, which may help identify gaps in our knowledge and guide future studies.

Arboviral mosquito vectors are key targets for the surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases worldwide. In recent years, changes to the global distributions of these species have been a major research focus, aimed at predicting outbreaks of arboviral diseases. In this study, we analyzed a global scenario of climate change under regional rivalry to predict changes to these species' distributions over the next century. Using occurrence data from VectorMap and environmental variables (temperature and precipitation) from WorldClim v. 2.1, we first built fundamental niche models for both species with the boosted regression tree modelling approach. A scenario of climate change on their fundamental niche was then analyzed. The shared socioeconomic pathway scenario 3 (regional rivalry) and the global climate model Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Earth System Model v. 4.1 (GFDL-ESM4.1; gfdl.noaa.gov) were utilized for all analyses, in the following time periods: 2021-2040, 2041-2060, 2061-2080, and 2081-2100. Outcomes from these analyses showed that future climate change will affect Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus distributions in different ways across the globe. The Northern Hemisphere will have extended Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus distributions in future climate change scenarios, whereas the Southern Hemisphere will have the opposite outcomes. Europe will become more suitable for both species and their related vector-borne diseases. Loss of suitability in the Brazilian Amazon region further indicated that this tropical rainforest biome will have lower levels of precipitation to support these species in the future. Our models provide possible future scenarios to help identify locations for resource allocation and surveillance efforts before a significant threat to human health emerges.

The Caatinga is an exclusively Brazilian biome, and is the largest and most biodiverse Seasonal Tropical Dry Forest in the world. Despite that, the mammalian fauna, especially small mammals, is the least studied of all Brazilian biomes. In order to fill gaps and provide detailed information on small mammals (Didelphimorphia, Rodentia) in the Caatinga biome, we compiled reliable records focusing on richness, composition and some biometric data. These records came from mammal collections, papers, theses, books, and unpublished data, prioritizing records with vouchers housed in scientific collections. We compiled a total of 3133 records from 816 locations, resulting in a richness of 47 native species (12 marsupials and 35 rodents, plus three exotic rodents, Rattus rattus, Rattus norvegicus, and Mus musculus). This dataset includes records of three new species for the biome and its transition zone: the rodents Calomys mattevii, Holochilus oxe, and Nectomys squamipes. Of the total number of records, 1808 (57.71%) are from consulting activities, 95 (3.03%) are from zoonoses studies and 104 (3.32%) are from the National Plague Service (SNP). All nine Brazilian states with territory in the Caatinga have sampling data for small mammals, but the number of records and localities are unevenly distributed, with the state of Rio Grande do Norte having the lowest number of records and locations sampled. Our dataset is the first of its kind for the Caatinga biome and has considerable potential value for studies of habitat use, landscape ecology, macroecology, biogeography, and conservation. Leporinus piau is a freshwater fish belonging to the family Anostomidae, popularly known as "piau" in Brazil. This species has wide distribution in Brazilian northeast basins and presents an economic and sporting fishing importance. The present study aims to inventory the parasitofauna of L. piau of a freshwater ecosystem of Caatinga domain (Brazil). A total of 598 parasite specimens were recovered from nine parasitized hosts, belonging to four taxonomic groups: one Myxozoa (Henneguya sp.); four Monogenea (Dactylogyridae gen. sp., Jainus sp., Urocleidoides sp. 1 and Urocleidoides sp. 2); one Nematoda (Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus) and two Copepoda (Ergasilus sp. and Gamispatulus schizodontis). Previous studies reported five parasitic associations in L. piau: two nematodes (P. (S.) inopinatus and Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) saofrancicencis) and three crustaceans (Argulus sp., Brasergasilus sp. and Ergasilus sp.). For the first time, this study records myxozoan and monogeneans parasitizing the host L. piau. The present study stands out the importance of the knowledge of the parasite biodiversity of freshwater fish in neotropics, reporting new occurrences and parasitic association for ichthyofauna of the Caatinga domain.

This study involves aporphine alkaloids identified through 13 C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopic data. For the present publication, articles were selected from several databases on aporphine alkaloids from 1994 to 2021. In this class, more than 700 compounds have been registered, with 221 were included in this section, among which 122 were characterized for the first time in the investigated period. The study also addresses their biosynthetic pathways, classifying substances according to their structural characteristics based on established literature. Furthermore, pharmacological activities related to the aporphine alkaloids highlighted in this section are also presented, giving an overview of the various applications of these compounds., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. This study investigated the chemical composition and evaluated the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Ruellia asperula (EORA) and Ruellia paniculata (EORP) against oral streptococci. The EO constituents were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The antimicrobial potential of EOs was evaluated using the minimum inhibitory concentration, minimum bactericidal concentration, and time-kill determination. Furthermore, the quantification of total biomass and the number of viable cells in the biofilms were evaluated. The major constituents of EORA were cariophylla-4(12)-8-(13)-dien-5β-ol (14.1%), (β)-caryophyllene (22.7%), and caryophyllene oxide (29.4%). For EORP, the major constituents were (β)-caryophyllene (11.0%), spathulenol (13.1%), and δ-amorphene (14.9%). The tested EOs exhibited antibacterial activity against planktonic growth and biofilm formation. Thus, the EOs from R. asperula and R. paniculata prove to be promising alternatives for bacterial growth control and biofilm formation prevention of oral streptococci.

Thirteen fucosterol derivatives were prepared by structural modification at the hydroxyl group in C-3 and catalytic hydrogenation at the carbon-carbon double bond in C-5(6) and C-24(28). The structures of all compounds were established based on their spectral data (IR, MS, and NMR). Fucosterol (1) and its derivatives (2-12, and a mixture of 13a and 13b) were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC 10031), Escherichia coli (ATCC 10536), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15442), Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 0046) and Staphylococcus aureus using the microdilution method. Among them, 1, 8, 9, 10, and a mixture of 13a and 13b exhibited the best antibacterial activity. The derivative 7 was inactive against all bacterial strains evaluated (MIC ≥ 2.327 mM). In addition, the investigation of binding interactions of more active compounds (1, 8, 9, 10, and mixture of 13a and 13b) to appropriate proteins was performed using molecular docking. Osteoderms are mineralized structures embedded in the dermis, known for nonavian archosaurs, squamates, xenarthrans, and amphibians. Herein, we compared the osteoderm histology of Brazilian Notosuchia of Cretaceous age using three neosuchians for comparative purposes. Microanatomical analyses showed that most of them present a diploe structure similar to those of other pseudosuchians, lizards, and turtles. This structure contains two cortices (the external cortex composed of an outer and an inner layers, and the basal cortex) and a core in-between them. Notosuchian osteoderms show high bone compactness (>0.85) with varying degrees of cancellous bone in the core. The neosuchian Guarinisuchus shows the lowest bone compactness with a well-developed cancellous layer. From an ontogenetic perspective, most tissues are formed through periosteal ossification, although the mineralized tissues observed in baurusuchid LPRP/USP 0634 suggest a late metaplastic development. Histology suggests that the ossification center of notosuchian osteoderm is located at the keel. Interestingly, we identified Sharpey's fibers running perpendicularly to the outer layer of the external cortex in Armadillosuchus arrudai, Itasuchus jesuinoi, and Baurusuchidae (LPRP/USP 0642). This feature indicates a tight attachment within the dermis, and it is evidence for the presence of an overlying thick leathery layer of skin over these osteoderms. These data allow a better understanding of the osteohistological structure of crocodylomorph dermal bones, and highlight their structural diversity. We suggest that the vascular canals present in some sampled osteoderms connecting the inner layer of the external cortex and the core with the external surface may increase osteoderm surface and the capacity of heat transfer in terrestrial notosuchians., (© 2022 The Authors. Primary health care requires work processes guided by collaborative inter-professional action to respond to health care needs. The Expanded Family Health and Basic Healthcare Center (NASF-AB) acts as an important device to expand the possibilities of care in this scenario. This study aims to describe the process of constructing a theoretical-logical model and judgment matrix to evaluate the effectiveness of the NASF-AB. Evaluative study, with a descriptive-qualitative approach using documentary research, in which 11 documents regulating the work process of NASF-AB were selected to support the theoretical-logical model. For the elaboration of the judgment matrix to evaluate the effectiveness of NASF-AB, we considered the fundamental concepts and expected competencies, with the definition of indicators and criteria for a staggered evaluation, which allows classifying the NASF-AB as effective, potentially effective, low effectiveness, and non-effective. Both the structuring of the model and the application of the matrix and its graphic expression are instruments that support the ideal functioning of the NASF-AB, being able to guide decision-making in the management and work process, in the care and pedagogical dimensions. The products of this investigation constitute theoretical and methodological devices to support the evaluation of the effectiveness of NASF-AB and to identify the weaknesses and potencies of its performance.

Yeasts from the Candida parapsilosis complex are clinically relevant due to their high virulence and pathogenicity potential, such as adherence to epithelial cells and emission of filamentous structures, as well as their low susceptibility to antifungals. D-limonene, a natural compound, emerges as a promising alternative with previously described antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antifungal activity; however, its mechanisms of action and antivirulence activity against C. parapsilosis complex species have not been elucidated. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to evaluate the antifungal and antivirulence action, as well as the mechanism of action of D-limonene against isolates from this complex. D-limonene exhibited relevant antifungal activity against C. parapsilosis complex yeasts, as well as excellent antivirulence activity by inhibiting yeast morphogenesis and adherence to the human epithelium. Furthermore, the apoptotic mechanism induced by this compound, which is not induced by oxidative stress, represents an important target for the development of new antifungal drugs.

Objective: To identify the perception of nursing student mothers regarding the desired type of delivery in relation to the one performed., Method: Qualitative research, supported by the assumptions of Humanization of Obstetric Care, developed remotely with 16 nursing students who experienced the parturition process. The data were collected through an online focus group using the Google Meet program, guided by a semi-structured script. The speeches were analyzed using the Thematic Content Analysis technique., Results: An unsatisfactory discrepancy was identified between the mother's preference and the realization, predominantly the desire for the vaginal way due to academic knowledge about the benefits. However, the cesarean section was predominant as a procedure performed due to possible complications, fears, financial situation of the parturient woman and control of choice by the health professional., Conclusion: Perception indicates marked disagreements, with the presence of complications, fear, lack of autonomy and predominance of a hegemonic care model, reinforcing the need for expansion and application of the Humanization of Obstetric Care, as a primary condition for proper monitoring.

Objective: to develop and validate an educational folder for pulmonary tuberculosis sputum collection., Method: a methodological study, developed in four phases: project design, bibliographic survey, development, and content and appearance validity. For validity, the Content Validity Index greater than or equal to 0.80, the Kappa Coefficient and the Suitability Assessment of Materials were adopted., Results: an educational folder was developed containing the recommended steps for quality sputum collection. It was validated by 19 expert judges in the first validity cycle, obtaining an overall Content Validity Index of 0.90, perfect agreement among judges, with a total Kappa of 0.83 and superior suitability., Conclusion: the material is valid, as it contains suitable, simple and attractive language, illustrations and layout, indicating perfect agreement and reliability. Thus, it has the potential to assist in carrying out the recommended steps for correct sputum collection and enable the correct diagnosis.

Natural trails in UNESCO Global Geopark territories show strong salutogenic, inclusive and interactive characteristics as potentials and opportunities for ecosystem health. It is essential to provide information to inform the hiker as to the characteristics of the environment and the attractions and challenges of the route. Based on a network analysis methodology we aimed to identify the indicators of centrality and strength of connection in order to classify the effort index and biomechanical overload of the Araripe UNESCO Global Geopark trails in Brazil. The results showed strong connection and centrality of the variables related to the biomechanical overload in the effort index. In the trail of Pontal de Cruz the altimetric variation and the surface of the ground are highlighted in the biomechanical overload that presented a horizontal course equivalent 2.6 times larger than the presented distance. In Sítio Fundão trail, the surface of the ground also stood out, increasing the exposure in 36% of the presented distance. On the Missão Velha Waterfall trail, the variable that stood out was the biomechanical overload on the knee, equivalent to a horizontal increase of 28% of the measured distance. The methodology presented sought to optimise the mapping, management and consolidation of a network of natural trails aggregated to a high geotouristic, scientific, educational, cultural and well-being potential as presented in the Araripe UGG territory.

Withajardins, uncommon modified withanolide-type steroids, have been isolated exclusively from plants of the Solanaceae family so far. Two undescribed withajardins and the known tuboanosigenin were isolated from the hexane/EtOAc 1:1 extract from Athenaea velutina leaves. Their structures were established by an extensive analysis of 1D and 2D-NMR and HRMS data. The absolute configuration was determined by X-ray diffraction (withajardin L and tuboanosigenin) and circular dichroism (CD) analyses (withajardin M). The anti-inflammatory activity of compounds was evaluated through the inhibition of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO), TNF-α, and IL-6 release in RAW264.7 cells. The cell viability effects to RAW 264.7 cells showed IC 50 values of 74.4-354.4 μM. Amphibians are a widespread Chordata taxon and are important for maintaining the balance of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Brazil has a rich amphibian fauna; however, little is known about the role of their ecology and phylogenetic relationships during the assembly processes of associated endoparasite communities. Herein, we describe an endoparasite community in an anuran assemblage in the Caatinga, a unique biome of dry forests in north-eastern Brazil. We studied endoparasite diversity, as well as the effects of body length, body mass, body volume and sex on parasite abundance. We also investigated the influence of ecological and historical factors and anuran microhabitat use on endoparasite composition. We analysed individuals from 13 anuran species distributed across five families: Odontophrynidae ( Proceratophrys cristiceps ); Leptodactylidae ( Leptodactylus fuscus , Leptodactylus vastus , Leptodactylus macrosternum , Leptodactylus troglodytes and Physalaemus cuvieri ); Hylidae ( Pithecopus gonzagai , Scinax x-signatus , Boana raniceps and Dendropsophus nanus ); Bufonidae ( Rhinella diptycha and Rhinella granulosa ); and Microhylidae ( Dermatonotus muelleri ). We found nine species of endoparasites, including seven nematodes ( Aplectana membranosa , Cosmocerca sp., Oswaldocruzia mazzai , Raillietnema spectans , Rhabdias fuelleborni , Schrankiana sp. and Physaloptera sp.), one species of Trematoda ( Glypthelmins pseudium ) and one non-identified cestode. There was no significant relationship between endoparasite abundance and host body length, body mass, body volume and sex. A phylogenetic principal component analysis showed that ecological factors had a greater influence on endoparasite assemblage than historical factors. Similarly, our results showed that ecological factors had a greater influence on anuran microhabitat use compared to historical factors, which contributed to the generalist characteristics presented by most of the sampled endoparasite species.

Objective: to construct a prototype of a mobile application on psychological violence against women to facilitate nurses' continuing education., Method: an applied methodological research of technological development, based on the Contextualized Instructional Design method., Results: the prototype content was based on the learning objectives developed through a narrative review, which guided an integrative review to compile the information. The prototype is called "EmpodereEnf", and is composed of an initial screen, bringing nurses as a target audience, and, soon after, offering nine general moblets for access to information such as: concepts, causes, manifestations and consequences of psychological violence; means for identification and approach in nursing consultation and health education; compulsory notification and referral; examples of cases of psychological violence and references., Final Considerations: the prototype is a possibility for future coping interventions and a work tool for nurses in the face of psychological violence against women.

Objective: to construe and validate a podcast for teen sexual and reproductive health education., Method: a methodological study was conducted based on Freire's perspective. The podcast was construed based on the Knowledge about Sexuality Questionnaire applied to 60 adolescents and an integrative literature review. Eleven experts conducted the validation process. Internal consistency was evaluated using Item-level Content Validity Index ≥0.78 and Cronbach's alpha ≥0.700., Results: four podcast episodes were produced with the adolescents' participation using the radio play format, addressing sex and sexuality, contraceptive methods, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted infections. The podcast episodes last between 8 and 11 minutes and was validated with Item-level Content Validity Index = 0.87 and Cronbach's alpha = 0.951., Conclusion: the podcast was validated for teen sexual and reproductive health education and constitutes a tool for health professional practices, particularly nurses, as well as autonomous use by adolescents., (1) Adolescents helped construct the technology. (2) Podcast is an easy-to-access, low-cost educational resource. (3) The radio play format emulates the target audience’s style and language. (4) The podcast format is little used by nursing, especially in health education. (5) The unpublished and judge-validated podcast is available for free.

A worrisome fact is the increase in microbial resistance, which has as its main cause the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Scientific studies have investigated bioactive compounds such as steroidal sapogenins, in the perspective of new beneficial alternatives for the control of bacterial resistance. Therefore, the objective of this work was to verify the antibacterial activity as well as the modifying action of antibiotics associated with solasodine and its ability to inhibit the efflux pump mechanism in strains of Staphylococcus aureus . Tests were performed to verify the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). In addition, the action-modifying potential of antibiotics and the inhibitory capacity of the efflux pump NorA and MepA through synergistic effects on the antibiotic and ethidium bromide were evaluated. Solasodine showed significant results for the standard bacteria with an MIC of 512 μg/mL, and when associated with the antibiotics gentamicin and nofloxacin for the multidrug-resistant bacteria S. aureus 10, Escherichia coli 06, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 24, it showed a 50% reduction in MIC. The association of solasodine with the antibiotic ciprofloxacin against S. aureus K2068 (MepA) showed synergism, with a reduction in the MIC of the antibiotic from 64 μg/mL to 40 μg/mL, and also a reduction in the MIC when the antibiotic was used in conjunction with the efflux pump inhibitors. Solasodine may be acting on the mechanism of action of the antibiotic, as it has shown a potentiating effect when associated with antibiotics, inducing a reduction in the MIC against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, this study demonstrated significant results for the potentiating action of solasodine when associated with antibiotics of clinical importance.

Objectives: to analyze the concept of cardiovascular risk to support nursing practice., Methods: this is an analysis to define the concept of cardiovascular risk, through the use of eight steps of Walker's and Avant's framework, using a literature review in indexed scientific journals., Results: cardiovascular risk is defined in a broad and original way as a context of health and nursing care that makes it possible to identify modifiable (cardiometabolic, behavioral, psychosocial, cultural and occupational) and non-modifiable (biological) risk factors for cardiovascular diseases that act as early and interrelated markers, of multiple and heterogeneous etiology, predisposing to cardiovascular vulnerability., Conclusions: with the analysis and definition of the concept of cardiovascular risk, we realized that it will be possible to base nursing practice, with implications in clinical practice for identifying and reducing risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, with nursing relevance in the care of these subjects.

Objectives: to build and validate an almanac to prevent the use of alcohol and other drugs among adolescents., Methods: a methodological study, based on the adaptation of Echer's stages and on Culture Circles. The Content Validity Index and the Concordance Index were used for validity., Results: problematization in Culture Circles and literature review supported the elaboration of an almanac. In validity with eleven health judges, the material obtained a global Content Validity Index of 0.73 in the first version and 0.84 in the second version, with validation with five judges. In terms of concordance, the 95% value was obtained with four technical judges and 86.2% with nine participants from the target audience., Conclusions: the constructed and validated almanac has playful, dialogic and problematizing potential.

Objectives: to develop educational hypermedia to support the care of people with epidermolysis bullosa; and validate its content, functionality, usability, and efficiency., Methods: methodological study, based on five phases: analysis and planning; modeling; implementation; evaluation; and distribution. Hypermedia was evaluated by expert judges, using the content validity index, index of agreement, and exact binomial distribution test, considering p > 0.05 and 0.80 agreement ratio to estimate the statistical reliability of CVI and IOA., Results: in the validation with the judges, hypermedia presented excellent indices of total content validity (CVIt=0.99) and agreement for functionality, usability, and efficiency (IOA=100%), with p > 0.05 in all evaluated items., Conclusions: the developed hypermedia was considered adequate, with good screens, descriptions, and animations, presenting itself clearly and objectively to be used by patients with epidermolysis bullosa and their family members/caregivers.

A large number of infections are caused by multi-resistant bacteria worldwide, increasing to around 700,000 deaths per year. Because of that, many strategies are being developed to combat the resistance of microorganisms to drugs, and recently, chalcones have been studied for this purpose. Chalcones are known as α, β-unsaturated ketones, characterized by having the presence of two aromatic rings that are joined by a three-carbon chain. They are a class of compounds considered an exceptional model due to chemical simplicity and a wide variety of biological activities, including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, antimicrobials, anti-tuberculosis, anti-HIV, antimalarial, anti-allergic, antifungal, antibacterial, and antileishmaniasis. The objective of this work was to evaluate the antibacterial and antibiotic modifying activity of chalcone (2E)-1-(4'-aminophenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus carrying a NorA and MepA efflux pump. The results showed that chalcone showed no toxicity on macrophage cells and was able to synergistically modulate the action of Norfloxacin and Ethidium Bromide against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus 1199B and K2068, respectively. Furthermore, the theoretical physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties of chalcone showed that it did not present a severe risk of toxicity such as genetic mutation or cardiotoxicity, constituting an excellent pharmacological active ingredient., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Objective: to map the early clinical deterioration technologies used in nurses' professional practice in the care of hospitalized adult patients., Methods: this is a scoping review, according to Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer's Manual, which seeks to map the main technologies for detecting early clinical deterioration of hospitalized patients available for use by nurses, summarizing them and indicating gaps in knowledge to be investigated., Results: twenty-seven studies were found. The most present variables in the technologies were vital signs, urinary output, awareness and risk scales, clinical examination and nurses' judgment. The main outcomes were activation of rapid response teams, death, cardiac arrest and admission to critical care units., Final Considerations: the study emphasizes the most accurate variables in patient clinical assessment, so that indicative signs of potential severity can be prioritized to guide health conducts aiming to intervene early in the face of ongoing clinical deterioration.

Objective: To evaluate the contributions of educational technologies used during the guidelines for sputum collection from pulmonary tuberculosis., Method: Systematic review guided by Preferred Reporting items for Systematic Reviews with protocol registered in the database International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews, with number CRD42020208162. The search was performed in the Cinahl, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Lilacs, CENTRAL, CAPES, Proquest, OpenGrey databases and manual search in the reference list. The search, selection of studies, data extraction, and methodological evaluation using the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias tool were performed by two independent reviewers., Results: A total of 2,488 studies were evidenced, with seven being selected and analyzed, of which four used structured lectures; three, educational booklet; and one, an educational video, used alone or together, impacting the bacteriological confirmation of tuberculosis. The studies had a low risk of bias., Conclusion: Scientific evidence has shown that educational technologies contribute to increasing the quality, volume, and appearance of the sputum sample, which improves the bacteriological confirmation of the disease.

The present study reports the synthesis, characterization, and antibacterial properties of silver trimolybdate (Ag 2 Mo 3 O 10 .2H 2 O) nanorods. The synthesis was performed using a conventional hydrothermal method. The sample was characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR diffuse reflectance, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The direct antibacterial activity was evaluated using the microdilution method to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). To assess the ability of Ag 2 Mo 3 O 10 .2H 2 O nanorods to modulate antibacterial resistance, the MIC of aminoglycosides was established in the presence of a subinhibitory concentration of this substance alone and associated with LED light exposure. The characterization of the sample indicated that the synthesis of silver trimolybdate generated nanometric crystals with rod-like morphology, without secondary phases. The treatment with Ag 2 Mo 3 O 10 .2H 2 O nanorods alone or combined with visible LED lights exhibited clinically relevant antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. This nanostructure presented a variable antibiotic-modulating action, which was not improved by visible LED light exposure. Nevertheless, LED lights showed promising antibiotic-enhancing activities in the absence of Ag 2 Mo 3 O 10 .2H 2 O nanorods. In conclusion, silver trimolybdate dihydrate nanorods have antibacterial properties that can be photocatalysed by visible-light exposure. A systematic study is made of Early Cretaceous (late Aptian/earlyAlbian) ostracod assemblages from the Santo Antnio section. This section is characterized by sediment belonging to the post-rift sedimentary sequence of the Romualdo Formation in the southern-central region of the Araripe Basin, Brazil and represents on of the first marine ingression in the interior of the continent, during the beginning of the formation of the Atlantic Ocean. The Santo Antonio section presents ostracods in greater diversity than previously known. Nineteen samples were analyzed, yielding a total of 8,370 specimens. Fifteen taxa were identified, including six brackish ostracods: Pattersoncypris salitrensis, Pattersoncypris angulata, Pattersoncypris micropapillosa, Damonella grandiensis, Alicenula cf. leguminella and Theriosynoecum cf. quadrinodosum; and nine typically brackish-marine species, including seven new ones: Dicrorygma cf. minuta, Dicrorygma (Orthorygma?) dimorpha, Mongolianella aptianensis sp. nov., Mantelliana speculum sp. nov., Paracypris undulareventralis sp. nov., Microceratina retangularis sp. nov., Perissocytheridea oculusutilis sp. nov., Perissocytheridea poruslinearis sp. nov. and Perissocytheridea florisdorsalis sp. nov. Therefore, the detailed taxonomic study brings a new understanding of marine ostracods around the upper Aptian/lower Albian boundary of the Araripe Basin.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most deadly cancer worldwide. CRC management is challenging due to late detection, high recurrence rate, and multi-drug resistance. Herbs and spices used in cooking, practised for generations, have been shown to contain CRC protective effect or even be useful as an anti-CRC adjuvant therapy when used in high doses. Herbs and spices contain many bioactive compounds and possess many beneficial health effects. The chemopreventive properties of these herbs and spices are mainly mediated by the BCL-2, K-ras, and MMP pathways, caspase activation, the extrinsic apoptotic pathway, and the regulation of ER-stress-induced apoptosis. As a safer natural alternative, these herbs and spices could be good candidates for chemopreventive or chemotherapeutic agents for CRC management because of their antiproliferative action on colorectal carcinoma cells and inhibitory activity on angiogenesis. Therefore, in this narrative review, six different spices and herbs: ginger ( Zingiber officinale Roscoe), turmeric ( Curcuma longa L.), garlic ( Allium sativum L.), fenugreek ( Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), sesame ( Sesamum indicum L.), and flaxseed ( Linum usitatissimum L.) used in daily cuisine were selected for this study and analyzed for their chemoprotective or chemotherapeutic roles in CRC management with underlying molecular mechanisms of actions. Initially, this study comprehensively discussed the molecular basis of CRC development, followed by culinary and traditional uses, current scientific research, and publications of selected herbs and spices on cancers. Lead compounds have been discussed comprehensively for each herb and spice, including anti-CRC phytoconstituents, antioxidant activities, anti-inflammatory properties, and finally, anti-CRC effects with treatment mechanisms. Species of the genus Miconia are used in traditional medicine for the treatment of diseases, such as pain, throat infections, fever, and cold, and they used as depuratives, diuretics, and sedatives. This work reviewed studies carried out with Miconia species, highlighting its ethnomedicinal uses and pharmacological and phytochemical potential. This information was collected in the main platforms of scientific research (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science). Our findings show that some of the traditional uses of Miconia are corroborated by biological and/or pharmacological assays, which demonstrated, among other properties, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimutagenic, antiparasitic, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and antimicrobial activities. A total of 148 chemical compounds were identified in Miconia species, with phenolic compounds being the main constituents found in the species of this genus. Such phytochemical investigations have demonstrated the potential of species belonging to this genus as a source of bioactive substances, thus reinforcing their medicinal and pharmacological importance.

Access to timely treatment is essential for the probability of the cure and reduction of severe breast cancer cases. In Brazil, legislation states that cancer treatment must start within 60 days of diagnosis. This study analyzed the factors associated with lack of access to breast cancer treatment in women with a confirmed diagnosis inserted in the health system. We collected secondary data from Brazilian women with a diagnosis and without treatment from January to December 2019 through the Cancer Hospital Registers developed by the National Cancer Institute. Our findings indicate that most women (60.11%) are diagnosed with stage II cancer but are without treatment. Most of them are aged 18-70 years, non-white race/color, have a low educational level and are from the Southeast Brazilian region. In addition, social inequalities are determinant in women's lack of access to breast cancer treatment.

We describe two new species of Rhinella (Anura: Bufonidae) from the department of Loreto, Peru. We integrate morphological and phylogenetic analyses to provide evidence of new species. R. angeli sp. nov. is diagnosable from all congeners by its pronounced fleshy proboscis and R. unapensis sp. nov. by the small size (mean snout-vent length=37.7 4.1 mm) of adult males, snout pointed in dorsal view, nearly acute in lateral view, and small bony protrusion at the angle of jaws among other characters. The two species are allopatric, where the first species is known to be associated inhabits upland (=terra firme) forests, while the second white sand forests (=varillales) around Iquitos city. The two new species represent the 20th and 21st species of the Rhinella margaritifera species group.

Purpose: We aimed to describe the helminth fauna associated with two sympatric congeneric treefrogs species (Boana multifasciata and Boana raniceps) from a highland marsh in northeastern Brazil. In addition, we investigate the body size influence on parasitological descriptors in these treefrogs, in which we expected that larger frogs would have greater abundance and richness helminths too, and no differences with respect to helminth composition once both hosts are exposed to similar environmental conditions., Methods: We collected anurans during the rainy season from 11 January to 09 February 2019, using visual and auditory searches in breeding environments. We analysed the presence of ectoparasites under an epidermis, oral cavity, and endoparasites present in the organs. Using a Linear mixed-effects model we tested the relationship between the host body size (length and weight) and helminths abundance and richness. In addition, we used the ANOSIM R test to investigate the differences between the hosts with respect to helminth composition., Results: We recorded 37 individuals (15 specimens of B. multifasciata and 22 of B. raniceps), in which 89.1% of them were infected by at least one helminth species. We found 355 helminths from 12 taxa parasitizing the two treefrogs, but just three parasite taxa were common to both species. All identified helminth species found in B. multifasciata are new records and four are new records for B. raniceps. In addition, we present the first record of Cosmocerca paraguayensis in Brazil. We found no support for the hypothesis that larger frogs tend to be more parasitized, at least for congeneric species, and sympatric hosts species have similar helminth composition. We also present a compilation of helminths occurring in treefrogs belonging to the Boana genus in South American, increasing our knowledge of the parasitic diversity of Neotropical anurans., Conclusion: Our results suggest a lack of knowledge about helminth fauna associated with amphibians even for common and widely distributed species, such as Boana spp., and demonstrate the need to deepen our knowledge about host parasitic relationships, especially in the Neotropical region., (© 2021. Aquatic ecosystems provide habitats for many organisms. Historically, riverbanks have always been inhabited and exploited for subsistence and navigation. The present study evaluates the contamination and ecological risks caused by potentially toxic elements in surface sediments of the Paraguaçu River, Bahia, Brazil. Seven sediments samples were collected, and eight heavy metals were determined employing inductively coupled plasma spectrometry mass (ICP-MS). The concentrations range as (mg kg -1 ) found were 6.78-18.68 for lead, 14.21-42.16 for zinc, 27.61-48.63 for nickel, 2.03-6.50 for chromium, 6.06-12.90 for vanadium, 5.99-13.33 for cupper, 1.25-3.19 for cobalt, and 79.52-286.08 for manganese. Nickel showed significant enrichment (EF: 5.75; 7.62, and 14.11), followed by zinc, which showed moderate enrichment (EF: 2.16; 2.19, and 4.52). These enrichment levels are possible of anthropogenic origin. When the pollution index (PI) was evaluated, the elements V, Ni, Zn, Mn, Co, and Cu were strongly polluted (PI ≥3). In general, the pollution index (PI), geoaccumulation index (I geo ), enrichment factor (EF), and potential ecological risk indices (E r and PERI) show that contaminated sediments have adverse effects on aquatic environments, especially for o Mn, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
