同一圃場から刈り取った牧草を,生草で給与した場合と乾草(人工乾燥)として給与した場合のヒツジにおける採食,反芻行動について比較し,特に乾草給与時の水分摂取量を生草給与時と等しくした場合と約50%に制限した場合の採食,反芻行動に及ぼす影響について検討した.1日当たり乾草の採食時間は,水分摂取量を等しくした場合には長くなる傾向が認められ,一方飲水制限すると著しく短縮された.乾草の採食後,反芻発現までの時間(ラグタイム)は飲水量を等しくした場合は短くなり,飲水制限すると長くなる傾向が見られた.1日当たりの反芻時間は水分摂取量の変化による明らかな影響は受けないようであった.摂取乾物100g当たりの反芻時間および反芻効率にも水分摂取量の差による明らかな変化はみられなかった.

一定量の飼料を与えためん羊において,抗不安剤であるエルファゼパム投与が採食,反すう行動に及ぼす影響を検討した.3頭の去勢雄めん羊に4,8mgのエルファゼパムまたは溶剤(エチルアルコール)のみを2週間経口投与した.投与開始1週間後に,採食,反すう行動,飼料消化率および消化管のクロム通過速度を測定した.エルファゼパム投与は給与飼料が全て摂取されるまでの採食速度を増加させた.また8mgのエルファゼパム投与により,有意に粗繊維消化率が向上し,クロムの滞留時間が長くなった.一方反すう行動はエルファゼパム投与の影響を受けなかった.以上の結果から,エルファゼパムは満腹感を抑制し,採食速度を上昇させることが考えられた.またエルファゼパムは第一胃の運動性を低下させ,消化物の第一胃内滞留時間を増加することにより,粗繊維消化率を向上させると考えられた.しかしエルファゼパムにより第一胃の運動性低下および第一胃内消化物滞留時間の増加が生じても,反すう行動には変化が生じなかった.

骨や歯の硬組織の主体をなすカルシウムヒドロキシアパタイト (Ca-HAp) の無機酸や有機酸に対する溶解性や, その溶解性に対する微量無機成分の影響などの基礎的研究として, Ca-HApおよびカドミウム, 鉛のヒドロキシアパタイト (Cd-HApおよびPb-HAp) を合成し, これらの溶解性を検討した。さらに, Ca-HApについては種々の有機酸における溶解量を測定し, 有機酸のCa2+錯体の安定度定数とCa-HApの溶解量の関連性を調べた。その結果, (1) 化学量論的な組成でしかも結晶性の良いCa-HAp, Cd-HApおよびPb-HAp合成し, その無機酸に対する溶解度から熱力学的溶解度積を求めた。Ca-HAp, Cd-HApおよびPb-HApについてそれぞれ115±0.3, 128±0.7および158±0.4の溶解度積を得た。ここでCd-HAp, Pb-HApの合成および溶解に関して, その生成のpH範囲を詳細に検討したところ, Cd-HApについては37-60℃ではCd5H2 (PO4) 4 (H2O) 4中に微量生成し, 80℃以上になると中性付近ではじめて単一の相として沈殿した。Pb-HApは温度に影響なくpH3-12の範囲で生成した。(2) 有機水溶液中のCa-HApの溶解量とCa2+錯体の安定度数の関係を調べるために, 一塩基酸から二塩基酸, 三塩基酸およびオキシカルボン酸までの直鎖有機酸の種類および溶液のpHを系統的に変えて検討した。その結果, Ca-HApのカルシウムおよびリンの溶解は多くの有機酸水溶液中, pH4～6.5の範囲で下記の式に従うことがわかった (ただし, リンゴ酸, 酒石酸, クエン酸を除く) 。l・log〔Ca2+〕total・〔OH-〕2/1+KcaA・〔An-〕+m・log〔H+〕・〔P〕total=const.ここで, KcaAは有機酸とCa2+の錯体の安定度定数, 〔An-〕は有機酸イオンの濃度である。

Though fluorescent X-ray spectrometers have been applied for analysis of trace elements in many fields, few studies were reported on the odontological use of this method.In order to obtain a simple and quick analytical method for trace elements in deciduous teeth, pH of sample solution, APDC amount to be added, andaging time for precipitation were mainly examined.A deciduous tooth was dissolved by H NO3 and a metal complex was formed in which APDC bonded with trace elements in the tooth solution. Then, trace element analysis was carried out by a fluorescent X-ray spectrometer after the precipitation was collected on the Millipore filter.As a result, trace elements such as Cu, Zn, Pb, and Fe in primary teeth were determined quantitatively and it was elucidated that data were obtained without interference when excesses in the amounts of Ca and PO4 existing in teeth were removed, because the APDC did not form any precipitation with Ca2+and P8+.

LITTLE and MITCHELL1) reported that steers digested casein, gluten, soybean protein and gelatin at almost the same grade in both oral and abomasal administration, but the nitrogen rentention was higher in the abomasal administration than in the oral administration. KAMEOKA2) observed that the digestibility of casein infused into the abomasum of goats with the filtrated omasal ingesta showed almost the same value as measured in non-ruminants. In the present experiment, the influence of various feeding routes on casein and starch digestion in goats was investigated.

PURPOSE Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by decreased lacrimal and salivary gland function causing dry eye and dry mouth. We examined several parameters as measures of lacrimal function and compared the serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) and serum autoantibodies as measures of systemic autoimmune condition. METHODS Serum levels of sIL-2R, antinuclear antibody (ANA), and rheumatoid factor (RF) in 128 patients (16 men, 112 women; average age, 54.3 +/- 12.5 years) were measured. The lacrimal function was evaluated clinically. RESULTS. There was no correlation between systemic condition and the cotton-thread test, Schirmer test with or without anesthesia, tear-clearance test, tear-function index, or the BUT. However, the Schirmer test with nasal stimulation and rose bengal and fluorescein staining was positively correlated with systemic parameters. CONCLUSION We show the correlation of serum sIL-2R, ANA, and RF to lacrimal function, which is good evidence that systemic immune conditions directly affect local lacrimal gland function.
