Search

In the last decade, flavor physics has witnessed unprecedented experimental and theoretical progress, opening the era of precision flavor tests of the Standard Model, and at the same time allowing to search for effects foreseen from new physics in the flavor sector. In this respect the precise measurement of the Bs-Bs mixing parameters, performed at the Tevatron collider, are playing today a fundamental role in constraining physics beyond the Standard Model. During Run II of the Tevatron collider, DØ collaboration has made extensive searches for the neutral MSSM Higgs bosons ([lowercase_phi_synonym]), produced in pp collisions at [formula]. Two such analyses, addressing inclusive [lowercase_phi_synonym] production with [lowercase_phi_synonym] → τ+τ-, and associated [lowercase_phi_synonym]b(b) production with [lowercase_phi_synonym] → bb are reported here. No excess of events above the background expectation has been observed in any of these analyses. We present recent results from CDF in the search for new phenomena appearing in the top quark samples. These results use data from pp collisions at [formula] corresponding to an integrated luminosity ranging from 195 pb-1 to 760 pb-1. We report on the status of searches for standard model Higgs boson production performed at the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The D0 collaboration has recently announced a new result on the Higgs search, combining contributions from several channels. The considered channels include those where Higgs is produced alone, or in association with a W or Z boson. We present both low mass Higgs (below 135 GeV) channels, which are predominantly searched for using the decay of the Higgs to a pair of b-jets, and the intermediate mass Higgs (135–180 GeV) channels, in which the Higgs decays to a pair of W bosons. We report on the measurements of the W boson and top-quark masses with the CDF II detector in pp collisions at [formula] at the Fermilab Tevatron. We highlight the major features and uncertainties for the W mass measurement. The top-quark mass measurements are presented in each tt decay channels. The combination of the most precise measurements from CDF to date leads to Mtop = 172.4 ± 1.5(stat.) ± 2.2(sys.) The data taken by the DØ experiment at the proton-antiproton collider Tevatron has been used to search for signatures with two or more leptons and missing transverse energy as they are expected for the decay of pair produced Charginos and Neutralinos. The chargino-neutralino production is one of the most promising SUSY processes that could be observed at the Tevatron. Cross sections of the order of 0.1 pb have not been excluded yet under the mSUGRA scenario, whereas the trilepton signature of the process is not contaminated by significant standard model backgrounds. We report on the status of CDF search for chargino-neutralino production at the Tevatron by presenting the results of five multilepton subanalyses as well as the result of their combination which leads to our current lower limit on the chargino mass of 127 GeV/c2 and upper limit on the production cross section times branching ratio to leptons of 0.25 pb at 95% confidence level. © 2007 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this contribution, a comprehensive review of some of the SUSY analyses carried out in CDF using Run II data from the Tevatron is presented. We report on a signature-based monojet search as well as dilepton and diphoton high mass resonance searches. No evidence for new physics have been found in any of these channels. Monojet results has been used to set a limit of 1.33 TeV (for n = 2) on the fundamental Planck scale MD of the ADD scenario of Large Extra Dimensions. The Tevatron in Collider Run II (2001-present) is operating with six times more bunches and many times higher beam intensities and luminosities than in Run I (1992–1995). Beam diagnostics were crucial for the machine start-up and the never-ending luminosity upgrade campaign. After a brief review of the production dynamics of prompt single photons in hadron collisions, I summarize a new QCD calculation of the transverse momentum distribution of continuum prompt photon pairs produced by QCD subprocesses, including all-orders soft-gluon resummation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Resummation is necessary to obtain reliable predictions, as well as good agreement with data from the Fermilab Tevatron, in the range of transverse momentum where the cross section is largest. The Fermilab Tevatron cryogenic system utilizes high-speed centrifugal cold compressors, made by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (IHI), for high-energy operations. The compressor is designed to pump 60 g/s of 3.6 K saturated helium vapor at a pressure ratio of 2.8, with an off-design range of 40 to 70 g/s and operating speeds between 40 and 95 krpm. Since initial commissioning in 1993, Tevatron transient conditions such as quench recovery have led to multiple-location machine trips as a result of the cold compressors entering the surge regime. Historically, compressors operating at lower inlet pressures and higher speeds have been especially susceptible to these machine trips and it was not uncommon to have multiple compressor trips during large multiple-house quenches. In order to cope with these events and limit accelerator down time, surge recovery techniques have been implemented in an attempt to prevent the compressors from tripping once the machine entered this surge regime. This paper discusses the different methods of surge recovery that have been employed. Data from tests performed at the Cryogenic Test Facility at Fermilab as well as actual Tevatron operational data were utilized. In order to aid in the determination of the surge region, a full mapping study was undertaken to characterize the entire pressure field of the cold compressor. Today, hadron physics research occurs at Fermilab as parts of broader experimental programs. This is very likely to be the case in the future. Thus, much of this presentation focuses on our vision of that future — a future aimed at making Fermilab the host laboratory for the International Linear Collider (ILC). Given the uncertainties associated with the ILC — the level of needed R&D, the ILC costs, and the timing — Fermilab is also preparing for other program choices. I will describe these latter efforts, efforts focused on a Proton Driver to increase the numbers of protons available for experiments. As examples of the hadron physics which will be coming from Fermilab, I summarize three experiments: MIPP/E907 which is running currently, and MINERνA and Drell-Yan/E906 which are scheduled for future running periods. While the top quark was discovered in 1995 at the Fermilab Tevatron, a decade later we still have very little information about the top. As the heaviest particle yet discovered, the top quark is interesting in and of itself, but some speculate that it may play a special role in physics beyond the Standard Model. With Run 2 of the Tevatron well underway, we have the opportunity to study top quark properties with much better sensitivity, and to test whether top quarks behave as predicted by current theories.
