Abstract

In this work, we examine the potential of Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) that have been implemented on NAND Flash memories using programming disturbances to act as sustainable primitives for the purposes of lightweight cryptography. In particular, we investigate the ability of such PUFs to tolerate temperature and voltage variations, and examine the current shortcomings of existing NAND-Flash-memory PUFs that are based on programming disturbances as well as how these could potentially be addressed in order to provide more robust and more sustainable security solutions., Comment: This work was accepted for and presented at the Workshop on Sustainability in Security, Security for Sustainability, which took place on 18 March 2022 and was co-located with the 25th Design, Automation and Test in Europe Conference & Exhibition (DATE 2022)

169. A Study of Decision Making Styles of Academic Managers in Public Sector Universities of the Punjab

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the different decision making styles of academic managers in public sector universities of the Central Punjab. The theoretical structure for this study was based on Vroom-Yetton model of decision making styles. The multi-stage random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 186 heads from ten public sector universities. The instrument for data collection named as Decision Making Styles Questionnaire (DMSQ) developed by the researcher. The instrument validation was done under the guidance of a panel of experts in educational administration and educational research. The data was collected through survey research method and was analyzed by applying descriptive statistics i.e. mean and standard deviation and inferential statistical analysis technique (e.g. t-test and ANOVA). The results of the study revealed that autocratic I style of decision making had the highest mean score as compared to other decision making styles. In addition, there was no significant demographic difference regarding the gender and age of academic managers. However, their marital status and qualification both have significant effects on their decision making styles.

170. Android Malware Detection using Feature Ranking of Permissions

Abstract

We investigate the use of Android permissions as the vehicle to allow for quick and effective differentiation between benign and malware apps. To this end, we extract all Android permissions, eliminating those that have zero impact, and apply two feature ranking algorithms namely Chi-Square test and Fisher's Exact test to rank and additionally filter them, resulting in a comparatively small set of relevant permissions. Then we use Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest Classifier algorithms to detect malware apps. Our analysis indicates that this approach can result in better accuracy and F-score value than other reported approaches. In particular, when random forest is used as the classifier with the combination of Fisher's Exact test, we achieve 99.34\% in accuracy and 92.17\% in F-score with the false positive rate of 0.56\% for the dataset in question, with results improving to 99.82\% in accuracy and 95.28\% in F-score with the false positive rate as low as 0.05\% when only malware from three most popular malware families are considered.
