SOCIAL processes , *RACISM , *ETHNIC relations , *INTENTION , *HOMOPHOBIA - Abstract
This contribution is the result of a collective work of members of the RT24 network of the French Sociological Association (AFS) around the concepts proposed by C. Guillaumin. The latter have enabled us to analyze the articulation of social relations and the processes of minoritization at work in our various terrains. Our intention is to contextualize and question the conceptualization of the “majority/minoritized” relationship, by linking it to other concepts and theories, in order to make it operational. Our analysis is structured around three axes that complement one another: to show the symbolic forces of minoritization through the concept of “mental form”, to think about the possible autonomy of minorities in relation to the majority in their ways of self-defining, and to capture the interlocking processes of sexist and racist minoritization at work between racialized people. GENDER , *RACISM , *MINORITIES , *DISCOURSE , *CONCEPTS , *MINORITY stress - Abstract
Echoing various controversies on gender and race that have arisen in the French political arena in recent years, minority knowledge has faced a new wave of strong resistance. By analyzing the rhetorical persistence of anti-minority discourse as well as its current specificities (opposition to the so-called “gender theory”, rejection of the category of race), the article shows the ongoing relevance of Colette Guillaumin’s ideas today in analyzing the rationale and stakes of this offensive. Throughout her work, Guillaumin has been engaged in reflecting on the oppositions raised by minority voices and has helped to forge the concepts targeted by the current attacks (minority, race, racization). - Abstract
The multiple death of Black Americans at the hand of the police, far from isolated incidents, reveal a larger system of racial oppression. This article explains how police violence became the starting point that reignited the struggle for racial equality and exposed the myth of Obama’s post-racial America. It also shows how the movement Black Lives Matter contributes to fight systemic racism through the deconstruction of racist stereotypes and the prooduction of alternative reprensentations. Through Black Lives Matter, many Blacks found a space of expression and collective action. To participate in the struggle helps channeling the anger created by police violence and social and racial injustice. If racial equality remains far from being overcome in the United States, the ubiquity and sophistication of the public debate is already a major accomplishment of this new generation of Black activists. At a time when the global empire seems to show its naked aggression especially in North Africa and West Asia, as we have seen in Libya, and now in Syria, an aggression that has further dismembered these societies, manifested also in global debt, racism against immigrants, and attacks on workers' rights, we have also been witnessing a type of 'nativist' violence wearing the garb of religion as reflected in the different militant groups in the region who claim to offer an alternative to corrupt and violent regimes, on the one hand, and to a violent racist global empire led by the United States, on the other. The claims of these nativist groups are that political Islam or the return to the true Islam is the only solution available, and that they want to duplicate an ideal Islamic State from the distant past. While doing so, they have further helped the global empire in further destroying local societies, and many of them have collaborated with the US and other western countries, and their proxies in the region. Worsening this situation is the neoliberal life/subject-hood that has become the spirit and norm in many societies and states in the Global South, whereby individualism and self-interest have displaced the collective/common good. In this article, and through a reading of the concept of Asabiyya as articulated by Ibn Khaldun, the author suggests an alternative response to the violent global empire, to violent religious militancy, and to neoliberalism, by discussing how the concept of Asabiyya can help in building internal solidarity within societies in the region, and possibly beyond. STEREOTYPES , *RACISM , *IMPERIALISM - Abstract
This approach falls in the context of studying the image as a subject of comparative literature, through observing the representations of the Jewish image in two books of Maghrebian thinkers who derived from two different cultures in order to highlight these manifestations at the level of the Self and the Other, in a manner that enables to monitor the role of Western prejudices in the formation of the stereotyped perception of this problematic character. The work focuses on dismantling these stereotypes and analyzing them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By agreeing to travel to Perpignan to be decorated by Louis Aliot, RN mayor, do the essential figures of the memory of the Shoah that are Serge Klarsfeld and his wife Beate participate in the normalization of the RN party, successor of the extreme right party “National Front”, openly racist and xenophobic ? After recalling the political commitments of Louis Aliot and those of the FN-RN, this article presents four positions of historians and associations worried about the effects of such a drift. The debate needs to be conducted while the RN presents itself as a major force capable of gaining power in France.

Abstract During World War II, in the context of the war confrontation between German National Socialism and the liberal democracy of the United States of America (USA), propaganda was instrumental in conveying messages that inspired the population of those countries in conflict. Billboards were ideal instruments to promote the recruitment of soldiers to their armies, sustain the war effort and clearly identify enemies. This article addresses the cases of the US and Nazi Germany, with the aim of analyzing the billboards from 1942, their connection with textuality and the dissemination of their ideological interests related to war action. It is concluded that there are similarities in both cases in the racial types used in the images, as well as the leading role of the texts found in the billboards.

The author offers a critical analysis of the Martinican, Josépha Labbé-Jouffret’s approach, in the Paris of the 1970s, and underlines the radical nature of her work for French Caribbean women at the time. By simply offering women the opportunity to love their hair and to keep it natural, Josépha Labbé-Jouffret gave them a political platform, which aimed at freeing them from the weight of the slave past. Her method was rooted in the Antillean humus, and the theoretical thought of the author relies on two aphorisms: Tout Moun Sé Moun and Sé Dèyè Pawol Ki Ni Pawol.

- Abstract
As the university remains to be a site where racial and gender (and other) inequalities continue to exist, universities are increasingly drawing up diversity policies with which they offer the promise of inclusion to those racialized and gendered Others who have been previously excluded. This resulted in an abundance of diversity policies, commitments and practices which have been a key focus in diversity management and critical diversity studies. Most research focuses on what universities are saying and doing about diversity to resolve ‘the problem of diversity’. Such research has three important weaknesses: (1) it conceptualizes diversity as identity characteristics specifically as the distance to a white masculine norm; (2) it then locates diversity in the minds/bodies of specific individuals or in discourse thereby it only studies cognition and discourse as being constitutive of social reality, but fundamentally neglects to study how bodies and materiality shape social reality and (3) it assumes to already know what ‘the’ problem of diversity is, how it ought to be studied and that it stays the same throughout research inquiries thereby producing dislocated knowledges instead of unfolding how conditions of knowledge production contribute to, intervene with and transform what the problem of diversity becomes. In light of urgent calls to theorize anew in how and what diversity is studied, this dissertation (1) departs from a relational ontology of diversity in which what ‘diversity’ becomes, is the result of interconnected practices in which bodies, words and objects ongoingly and collectively produce what is known as diversity in research; (2) conceptualizes diversity anew as a shifting and ongoing concern to refer to how diversity’s composition(s) results from different practices of various actors who in their attempts to know diversity construct different, conflicting meanings and how they may then (not) act upon those meanings to arrive at a final, situated co

- Abstract
In 2018, a Black weathercaster’s video denouncing racism led to a unique moment in the French-speaking Belgian media, with a large number of articles carrying “antiracist” discourses. Based on a press corpus focusing on the event (112 articles), we decided to use critical discourse analysis in order to observe the social representations that are conveyed by the journalistic discourse. We developed a grid to investigate the construction of in-groups at several levels. In a constructivist approach inspired by Nancy Fraser’s (1992) view of the public sphere, media discourses can be seen as a reconfiguration of representations and social beliefs reflecting an unequal social structure, consequence of a disparity of access and participation (Cervulle 2013). Journalists are part of a symbolic elites that have influential public discourses, thus contribute to the reproduction of dominant knowledge and ideologies in society, including racism (Van Dijk 1993; 2012). Antiracists discourses are part of the social representation of the group in most of Western societies, in which tolerance towards the “other” is promoted and blatant forms of racist behavior banned (Lentin, 2016 ;Archakis 2021).While racism is denounced in the news discourses, we observe in antiracist’s discourses an in-group’s valorization of journalists and media workers, an in-group’s valorization of the idea of a non-racist Belgian french-speaking part, and finally an in-group's promotion of the idea of a non-racist Belgium., info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

- Abstract
This article aims to critically discuss the continuity of old colonial structures in the Peruvian university that prevent its transformation into a relevant institution that responds to the cultural diversity of the country. Given that the university continues to operate under the monocultural and hegemonic perspective of westernized knowledge that invisibilizes and folklorizes the knowledge and worlds of other Andean, Amazonian, and Afro-descendant peoples. A brief historical reference is made on the colonial encounter and the mechanisms of power in which the university is constituted as an elite institution that operates under European models from colonial times to the present. Based on this idea, the essay seeks to reflect on experiences of national universities with groups of students of ethnic origin in the first decades of the 21st century, specifically affirmative action programs in which the author had experience as a student and later as a teacher in two public universities. To address the issue, the paper is organized into three sections: the domination and colonial heritage of the Peruvian university; cultural diversity, racism, and the university; intercultural emergency in the university and final ideas., Cet article vise à examiner de manière critique la continuité des anciennes structures coloniales de l'université péruvienne, qui empêchent sa transformation vers une institution pertinente répondant à la diversité culturelle du pays. - Abstract
In Latin America, for centuries, racial discrimination and other forms of racism have been especially detrimental to people and communities of indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants (ECLAC, 2016). In Argentina, racism is one of the most important forms of discrimination (INADI, 2020). However, it is often perceived as a problem mainly occurring in other countries or regions (Menéndez, 2018). It is frequently overlooked that racism is a problem present in the higher education system and institutions. This misperception is partly due to representations of the idea of racism frequently reduced to one of its most obvious manifestations, racial discrimination. Nevertheless, other less evident modalities of racism condemn some population groups to live in disadvantaged and inequitable conditions that affect higher education (Mato, 2021). This paper describes research results that contribute to the identification, understanding, and analysis of how racism, as an ideology and system of power, manifests itself in higher education and contributes to its reproduction and naturalization in all spheres of social life in Argentina.

- Abstract
In Denmark the political and public debate regarding young ethnic minority men is highly polarized. In this paper I investigate which imagined groups the Danish society consists of, and how these affect young ethnic minority men in regard to their identity formation, and which effects it has on their daily lives and opportunities, as well as their emotional wellbeing. My object is to clarify these issues and qualify the debate as to make it more balanced than it is today. As my theoretical frame I use Rogers Brubaker´s term groupism and Elizabeth Anderson´s theory regarding group stigma and attribution bias, as these play a vital part in all aspects regarding minority issues. I also introduce and apply other philosophical and theoretical terms when they can shed light on the on-hand discussion. I have divided my investigation into three parts: In part one, I examine which effects groupism and stigma have on young ethnic minority boys and men, when shaping their identity, and how schoolteachers and the surrounding communities will contribute to these stereotypes and prejudices. In part two, I examine how fear toward the minority, is embedded in the body through implicit bias and lived experience in majority Danes; illustrated with the white woman facing the ethnic minority man in the street at night. With the arguments of philosopher Shannon Sullivan, I discuss how the physical reaction; knots in the stomach, cold sweat, and nausea create the feeling of fear, and not the other way around. In part three, I show how ethnic minority men face an unjust choice of either expressing their apt anger and frustration with the injustice of their situation, or acting prudentially, what Amia Srinivasan has coined affective injustice. I take the discussion further, by arguing, that the emotional labor done by the ethnic minority man, when reassuring the majority that he has no ill intent, is an affective injustice as well. Lastly, I conclude that the ethnic minority man in the Dan

- Abstract
For a long time, the historiography of resistance to slavery in the United States has focused on the slave revolts of Gabriel Prosser, Denmark Vesey and Nat Turner, neglecting one of the greatest uprisings of the antebellum era. The 1811 German Coast Uprising is now under the projectors, mostly since 2011, the year of its bicentenary. At the turn of the 19th century the colonial empires were shaken by the independence of the United States (1776), the French Revolution (1789-1799) and the independence of Haiti (1804). More precisely, the slave revolt of 1791 in Santo Domingo cracks the paradigm of race as a fear of servile revolt leach through slave societies notably in Louisiana which became an American territory in 1803. In Louisiana, the years 1800 are characterized by the metamorphosis of slavery. The sugar boom profoundly changed the Louisianan landscape, which is now the ideal place for a sugar planter. The creole planters of Louisiana import thousands of slaves to work on the region’s sugar plantations. Forced migration to Louisiana rhymes with runaway slaves and rebellion. Slavery had to be rebuilt, by black codes but also by staging the power of the slaveholders. In this master’s thesis, we analyze the relationship between the press, following the metaphor of the theatrical scene of power, and the reconstruction of racial slavery. More specifically, we examine through the Louisiana and American journalistic coverage of the revolt how the printed space becomes the producer and the reflection of power as well as knowledge on the insurrection. In Louisiana, this reconstruction unfolds from three main discourses. The first is destined to criminalize the revolt, that is to say, to minimize the impact and the political significance of the resistance of the slaves of Louisiana, while perpetuating the racial inferiority of the black body. The revolted slaves are reduced to mere criminals or « brigands ». The second discourse defends the institution of slav

- Abstract
SHORT SUMMARY The health of paid care workers in long-term care is under pressure, but not for all care workers alike (chapter 1 and 2). Therefore, this thesis addresses health inequities among paid care workers. This thesis presents several participatory studies which were conducted by the author, together with paid care workers and a professional photographer. These studies unravel the health strategies of women (chapter 3) and men (chapter 4) working in long-term care and the health issues of self-employed care workers (chapter 5) before and during (chapter 6) the COVID-19 pandemic. All studies were done from a critical gender, diversity-sensitive and intersectional perspective. They present insights for care workers, occupational health professionals, HRM professionals and policy makers in long-term care. This thesis is also relevant for Participatory Health Researchers (PHR) who aim to make their research more critical and diversity-sensitive, as it explores the relevance of intersectionality for PHR (chapter 7 and 8). A series of portraits ‘What You Don’t See’, made by photographer Janine Schrijver in co-creation with care workers and the author, is part of the research presented in this thesis (chapter 9). These portraits address urgent health issues that often remain invisible, including racism and poverty, which squeezes paid care workers out of the organizations into self-employment. Concerns about the health of paid care workers are a persistent societal issue in the Netherlands. They have become increasingly pressing as more and more paid care workers find themselves in precarious positions, no longer able to sustain their own health or support themselves financially. Therefore, this thesis explores the economic, societal and political forces that contribute to the precarization of paid care workers in the Netherlands (chapter 10). Protecting, maintaining and repairing the health of paid care workers is not just an issue of care workers or employers. It

- Abstract
[EN] Pere M. Rossell i Vilar (1883-1933), a veterinarian and later politician, is well known as a promoter of scientific animal husbandry. He applied his ideas of a «Catalan race» not only to livestock (cattle and pork) but also to human beings. Because of his insistence on «racial purity», historians called him a «modern racist». Much less known is his important role in the attempts to reform the Barcelona Zoo between 1918 and 1932. In this context, in 1919 and 1921, Rossell produced two voluminous memoranda that have not yet been studied. In these memoirs, he tried to present the state-ofthe-art in zoo management by presenting a wealth of data on European and North American zoos. They dealt with issues such as the construction of animal houses, animal diseases, economic parameters, and zoo personnel. The first memorandum was to a large part based on reports published by the French zoo reformer Gustave Loisel. The second one was the fruit of Rossell¿s zoo voyage through Western and Central Europe in the summer of 1920. Rossell was deeply influenced by the «zoo revolution» of Carl Hagenbeck and his concept of enclosures without visible bars or fences put into practice in the «animal paradise» of Stellingen outside Hamburg. This article will show how both Rossell¿s reading of Loisel and his enthusiasm for Hagenbeck, drove the reform discussion in Barcelona in the 1920s and beyond. It will thus highlight the relevance of transurban networks of zoos as well as the ongoing debate about the goal of the zoo, torn between scientific research, acclimatization, and site of mass culture. Through constant communication, cooperation but also competition, zoos co-evolved.

- Abstract
Navigating the social dynamics of clinical spaces can be an added challenge to the complexities of clinical work. Acts of bias and discrimination from patients have been found to affect healthcare workers both physically and psychologically. As more attention is paid to addressing discrimination by patients, we raise attention to the experiences and unique needs of clinical learners. Given that learners play a vital role in the functioning of hospital ecosystems, we advocate for the inclusion of their voices in any revision to policy and practice. In this paper, we critically examine the academic literature on learner’s experiences with mistreatment from patients, and their families. We outline the major gaps in policy, process, training, and institutional culture, noting the urgent need for institutions to address these gaps in ways that are meaningful to learners. Our goal is to highlight the lack of bioethics attention to this matter and propose areas where we can add value and support. With this goal in mind, we present a series of tables with guiding values, ethical considerations and questions for institutions., Naviguer dans la dynamique sociale des espaces cliniques peut être un défi supplémentaire aux complexités du travail clinique.

What connection links biopower and racism? How do schools as institutions partake in producing citizens and minorities? This article engages with some of the often overlooked forms of exclusion and belonging that take place among minority youths within educational settings. It explores the combined uses of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and a critique of biopower in understanding the educational experiences of Somali immigrants in Norway and the United States. Based on findings made, the article suggests that covet forms of racism are often at play where biopower is operative, as when schools instil particular forms of diversity.

Brazil is one of the largest food producers in the world and also one of the most socially and economically unequal countries. Afro Veganism, Ghetto Veganism and Feminist Veganism are associated with this fight, addressing the contradictions between food, bodies, gender, and racism. This article aims to understand how these three collective movements articulate their discourses on veganism, highlighting the similarities and differences between their narratives, and thus understand the discourses of the vegan movement, considering the symbolic dimensions of food within the context of Brazilian socio- economic inequality. For the examination of the discursive content collected, intersectionality was used as an analytical tool. The analysis of these initiatives reveals a critical look on “traditional” veganism, criticismo of the [whitened] perspective of the vegan movement, the uncritical assimilation of products from the big agro-industry, the difficulties of accessing fresh food, the exploitation of human and non-human resources, especially feminine ones, and the relationship between speciesism and racism.

This article traces the history of RT 24, founded in 2003 at the same time as the AFS, in the form of the RTf and under the name of “Work (productive and reproductive), social relations, gender relations”, then became RT, in full, in 2005 under the name “Gender-class-race. Social relations and the construction of otherness”. The article provides information on the contours of “office work” that characterizes RT 24, in particular through the desire to collectively take charge of all activities; developments in its research program and its theoretical perspectives around the articulation of social relations; the difficulties and conflicts that is has gone through, echoing the power relations of society as a whole, despite the scientific and political project to analyze them and keep them at a distance in the functioning of the collective.Through the subjective point of view and personal memories of three of its long-time participants, the article draws simultaneously on an interview with the network's founder (Danièle Kergoat), a reconstitution of the RT archives (content analysis of found meeting minutes), a textual and lexicometric study of its written productions, especially its calls for papers, without neglecting the activities carried out between AFS Congresses. The article then sets out to address a two-fold transversal reflexive issue. To what extent has the RT 24 office work been as collective as hoped? To what extent has it helped to combat the sexist, racist and classist oppressions at play around the organization of work, in this RT as well as in French sociology and society as a whole? The dynamics are highly ambivalent

Bluest eye - Abstract
Treballs Finals del Grau d'Estudis Anglesos, Facultat de Filologia, Universitat de Barcelona. Curs: 2022-2023. Tutor: Rodrigo Andrés, [eng] Toni Morrison’s first novel, 'The Bluest Eye' (1970), tells the story of Pecola, an Afro-American little girl, in the United States of the 1940s. She and her family are in a vulnerable situation due to the way in which the concept of Americanness has been culturally constructed around discourses which are spread by institutions such schools or by mass media, like cinema. This rhetoric, based on the superiority of the white “race”, was devised to exclude the black community who, lacking representation, eventually internalize and validate their own inferiority. This end-of-degree paper aims to analyze the way in which such imposed exclusion affects some of the characters in two specific areas: on the one hand, how the concept of “home” becomes a space of violent cohabitation; on the other hand, the construction of self- identity when it is based on an alien cultural model., [spa] 'The Bluest Eye' (1970), la primera novela de Toni Morrison, narra la historia de Pecola, una niña afroamericana, en los Estados Unidos de la década de los cuarenta.

In this article, we focus on the Chinese population, the gypsies and the Jews who emigrated to Ecuador, as archetypes of the foreign and undesirablepopulation, in the Andean country, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Different discourses, practices and actionswere built around these three groups, which later found a place in praxis and, partially, in the country’s current legislation. It is argued that Ecuador was builtas a nation-state also through the diffusion of certain prejudices and phenomena of exclusion, on an economic and racial basis that were widespread in society. The sources used in this study are mainly parliamentary debates, the press of the time, and the archives of the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Interior., En este artículo, la población china, los gitanos y los judíos emigrados a Ecuador son estudiados en su función de arquetipos de la población extranjera indeseable para el país andino, entre finales del siglo xix y comienzosdel siglo xx.

Aquí veurem com davant l’arribada de migrants expulsats d’Europa per la guerra, el racisme i, especialment, l’antisemitisme van edevenir l’eix argumental d’aquestes publicacions., The present work aims to analyze the ways in which the image of the enemy and its role in society were constructed by means of different discursive forms published in nationalist newspapers close to Nazism/fascism in Argentina during World War II, in which it was proclaimed that national sovereignty was threatened precisely by these sectors. This imagery was strengthened in the particular context of the general radicalization of violence, both material and discursive.

(English below)I denne indslag i Berlingske skriver jeg om Reformkomissionens nye forslag punkt 3.4. For eksempel spejler dokumentet manglende diskriminationsviden. English:My column in Berlingske this month is about the Danish government’s newest proposal for reducing discrimination in the workplace. Recognizing that discrimination is a challenge as well as a willingness to take responsibility for reducing discrimination through concrete suggestions for implementation are welcome initiatives. That said, the proposal encompasses som serious issues. For example the document reflects a (seeming) lack of knowledge about discrimination. Discrimination is not clearly defined and refers primarily to ethnicity which suggests that the terms are used synonymously. Further, the proposal takes a single-axis approach and also overlooks a large group of Danes that meet discrimination in the workplace. In this way, many of the ways discriminaiton actually occurs in the workplace is ignored. I suggest that this might actually reflect discrimination within the proposal itself. F.eks. that racially minoritized Danes are presumed to be ethnic minorities or immigrants rather than Danes (or also Danes). Additionally, I note that anonymising applications is controversial and has not been shown to be an effective method. The questions that then arise are:: How can we ensure a fair evaluation process in recruitment and hiring processes? What can be done about retention? How can structures that produce and maintain discrimination been addressed in this framework? What about building knowledge and competency about discrimination in the workplace? It is terrific to see discrimination finally on the agenda, but focus on discrimination without the necessary knowledge could be seen as a sign of indifference, lack of priority, or even merely performative?

- Abstract
The main objective of this study was to establish the psychometric properties for Colombia of the Subtle and Blatant Prejudice Scale of Pettigrew and Meertens (1995) which was adapted to Spanish by Rueda and Navas (1996). Venezuelan immigrants in Colombia are the target population. The sample comprised 1078 Barranquilla residents (Atlantic) who were selected intentionally, with an age range between 18 and 78 years old (M = 34.6 and SD= 13.4), of whom 49 % (n=523) were male. Outcomes show a Cronbach's alpha (α) of .84 and an Omega (ω) of .85 for the global scale. The Subtle Prejudice subscale displays α = .74 and ω = .75, while the Blatant Prejudice subscale demonstrates α = .78 and ω = .80. Confirmatory Factor Analysis confirms the underlying factorial structure, but item 17 changes factor and item 7 is eliminated, leaving a total of 19 items. Limitations are discussed. CAPITALISM , *RACE , *VISION , *EYE , *NEW economy - Abstract
This review essay is a generative reading of four monographs and one special issue to rethink the discipline of International Relations (IR) and its syllabus anticolonially. At the centre of White Innocence by Gloria Wekker, In the Wake: On Blackness and Being, by Christina Sharpe, The Colonial Lives of Property by Brenna Bhandar, Beyond Coloniality by Aaron Kamugisha and the New Political Economy special issue titled Raced Markets edited by Robbie Shilliam and Lisa Tilley are issues of race and racism, neoliberalism and capital and (the afterlives of) colonisation and slavery. This essay deploys a narrative approach of the autobiographical example to write the themes and arguments of the works onto the international everyday, i.c. a period of five months (April-September 2019) and the five places (Toronto, Stellenbosch, (New) England, Ghana and Puerto Rico) in which these works were read. First, the themes of racism, capitalism and coloniality – to varying degrees disavowed and erased in both IR as a discipline and public opinion – appear as persistent, pervasive yet adapting across time, space and situatedness. Second, both the autobiographical examples and the works point at the equally omnipresent cracks in the system and invite reflection on anticolonial alternatives (of solidarity). In conclusion, the essay explores how these works could inform reconceptualisation of the IR syllabus, towards a discipline that engages with the world rather than itself, against the colonial status quo. Following the mediatized death of Jamel Dunn in Florida in 2017, this paper situates the event of death within familiar cycles of moral condemnation, on the left, and the context of recursive circuits of mediatized and racialized violence, on the right. As we watch ourselves watching the boys watching (and filming) his death, the paper hopes to complicate our understanding of digital hate speech, moral subjectivity, and culpability. Between the curse of death and its recursive afterlife, it advances a tentative claim about ethical complicity across our digital media ecologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
