Objective: To analyse the phenomenology and comorbidity of Dhat syndrome. Design: Cross-sectional study. Subjects and Methods: A total of 50 male patients attending psychosexual clinic of a tertiary care hospital in Delhi was performed. Data comprised of 40 patients of Dhat syndrome with or without impotence or premature ejaculation, six with premature ejaculation only, and four were suffering from only impotence. Results: The commonest associated psychiatric illness was mixed anxiety and depressive disorder (40.0 %) followed by generalized anxiety disorder (20.0%), while 24 % did not receive a psychiatric diagnosis. The commonest associated medical illness was urinary tract infections (UTI) which affected 24 % of study subjects followed by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) which occurred in 10 % of the subjects. The common presenting symptoms of Dhat syndrome were weakness (78%), fatigue (71%), palpitations (66%), and sleeplessness (64%). Conclusions: Dhat syndrome is commonly associated with mixed anxiety and depressive disorder and urinary tract infections (UTI) in terms of psychiatric and medical illness respectively. Background: Chikungunya fever is an acute illness caused by an arbovirus and has various complications like neurological, psychological, dermatological and even multi organ failure. Psychiatric co-morbidity is not very well studied till now. This is the first report from India. Aim: Aim of the study was to assess the psychiatric morbidity during or after the onset of Chikungunya fever. Materials and Methods: Patients referred from Medicine department with confirmed diagnosis of Chikungunya fever were recruited, after taking informed consent. Patient's sociodemographic characteristics were noted and Psychiatric comorbidity was assessed by complete history taking and mental status examination, using WHO International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition (ICD -10) of Mental and Behavioural Disorders, Diagnostic criteria for research. Results: The age range of the study group was found to be 23-48 years. Fourteen (70%) were males and 6 (30%) were females. Five (25%) patients were diagnosed with depressive disorder, 3 (15%) patients had Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), 2 (10%) patients GAD with Panic attacks, 1(5%) patients phobic disorder (claustrophobia), 3 (15%) patients Somatoform Disorder, 3 (15%), Neurasthenia (Fatigue Syndrome), etc. Two (10%) patients presented with vague somatic complaints which did not fit into any of the diagnostic category. Conclusion: Chikungunya fever can result in significant psychiatric morbidity, mainly in the form of depressive episode, anxiety disorder and even long persisting illnesses like somatoform disorders. Trichotillomania is term used to denote an irresistible urge to pull one's own hair. It is classified under 'Habit and Impulse Disorders'. There are few reports of familial occurrence of trichotillomania but none on response to the same SSRI among family members afflicted with trichotillomania. We present a young girl with trichotillomania, who had a family history in her mother. Both responded to fluoxetine. Dengue fever is considered to be one of the major health problems in south east Asia. In the recent past, epidemic outbreaks of Dengue have also been noticed in India. Initially, the neurological manifestations which were associated with Dengue received little attention, but now, there have been several reports of encephalitis and encephalopathy . However, nowhere in the literature has Dengue fever been mentioned as a cause of acute psychosis or mania. Culture bound syndromes which present with symptoms which resemble somatization have been described. In the Asian countries, syndromes which involve the loss of semen (the 'Dhat syndrome'), which present with physical and psychological symptoms are common. This is only the second case report which has described seminal retention. A 24- years old, unmarried male who presented with the symptoms of a somatization disorder, which was attributed to seminal retention and who developed cybersex addiction has been described. He responded to the treatment with fluoxetine 20mg daily. Seminal retention syndrome needs further exploration in the southeast Asian countries for its prevalence, presentations and treatment. The article discusses the findings of the study regarding the impact of tobacco use among people in the world. It states that tobacco use is recognized as the most important source of preventable morbidity and mortality. The findings notes that the treating physician/psychiatrist should advise the drug dependent patients to intervene for smoking cessation to prevent the dependence of nicotine.

Dengue fever, also known as break bone fever, is a mosquito-borne infection that causes a severe flu-like illness. During the last few years, there had been increasing reports of dengue fever with unusual manifestations, primarily with neurological symptoms. Psychiatric morbidity during acute dengue infection has rarely been reported. There has not been any systemic study mentioning the prevalence and pattern of psychiatric sequelae.
