This study sheds light on the exploration of photoresponsive host-guest systems, highlighting the intricate interplay between confined spaces and photosensitive guest molecules. Conducting nonadiabatic molecular dynamics (NAMD) simulations based on electronic structure calculations for such large systems remains a formidable challenge. By leveraging machine learning (ML) as an accelerator for NAMD simulations, we analytically constructed excited-state potential energy surfaces along relevant collective variables to investigate photoisomerization processes efficiently. Combining the quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) methodology with ML-based NAMD simulations, we elucidated the reaction pathways and identified the key degrees of freedom as reaction coordinates leading to conical intersections. A machine learning-based nonadiabatic dynamics model has been developed to compare the excited-state dynamics of the guest molecule, benzopyran, in both the gas phase and its behavior within the confined space of cucurbit[5]uril. This comparative analysis was designed to determine the influence of the environment on the photoisomerization rate of the guest molecule. The results underscore the effectiveness of ML models in simulating trajectory evolution in a cost-effective manner. This research offers a practical approach to accelerate NAMD simulations in large-scale systems of photochemical reactions, with potential applications in other host-guest complex systems.

Smart shape-changing structures in aerospace applications are vulnerable to damage in harsh environments. Balancing high mechanical performance with self-repair capabilities poses a challenge due to inherent trade-offs between strength and flexibility. To address this challenge, an asymmetric bilayer-structured actuator was fabricated using commercially available continuous carbon fiber tows (CFs) as the passive layer and a dynamic cross-linked epoxy vitrimer as the active layer. The construction of the vitrimer-CF actuator involves a simple and scalable hot-pressing process, resulting in a tensile strength of 234 MPa and an interfacial bonding strength of 405 N·m -1 . This actuator exhibits remarkable deformation capability (210°/7 s) and an efficient self-repair ability under various stimuli, including thermal (60-160 °C), light (0.4-1.0 W·cm -2 ), electric (2-4 V), and solvent (acetone). By adjustment of the orientation angle of CFs, complex left-handed and right-handed curling structures can be achieved. Leveraging the insights from photothermal/electrothermal actuation mechanisms, a quadruped crawling robot is developed capable of crawling 4 cm with a single light illumination. The actuator can lift objects 45 times its weight when subjected to light stimuli. Additionally, a flap actuator is constructed to achieve an angle change of 63° within 10 s under an electric stimulus, enabling remote control over the aircraft flight angle. These results demonstrate the potential of the vitrimer-CF actuator for advanced applications in intelligent aerospace structures.

A design strategy has been proposed to utilize structure-driven solution and solid-state fluorescence emission of polynitrogen atoms. The strategy uses benzimidazole as the electron donor and pyridine as the electron acceptor to construct D-A-type cyanopyridine ethylene molecules. Theoretical calculations reveal that compound 1 has energy-close isomers in dilute solutions, with planar conformation in S 0 and S 1 states, reducing molecular motion and thus enhancing radiation efficiency (quantum yield up to 42.7%). Conversely, the distorted cyanobenzene structure reduces the quenching effect of π-π stacking alignment, and hydrogen bonding between molecules limits molecular vibration and rotation, ultimately leading to strong emission in the solid state (quantum yield up to 27.4%). These dual-state luminescence systems have wide-ranging potential applications in information encryption and temperature sensors.

The high non-radiative energy loss is a bottleneck issue that impedes the improvement of organic solar cells. The formation of triplet exciton is thought to be the main source of the large non-radiative energy loss. Decreasing the rate of back charge transfer is considered as an effective approach to alleviate the relaxation of the charge-transfer state and the triplet exciton generation. Herein, we develops an efficient ternary system based on D18:N3-BO:F-BTA3 by regulating the charge-transfer state disorder and the rate of back charge transfer of the blend. With the addition of F-BTA3, a well-defined morphology with a more condensed molecular packing is obtained. Moreover, a reduced charge-transfer state disorder is demonstrated in the ternary blend, which decreases the rate of back charge transfer as well as the triplet exciton formation, and therefore hinders the non-radiative recombination pathways. Consequently, D18:N3-BO:F-BTA3-based device produces a low non-radiative energy loss of 0.183 eV and a record-high efficiency of 20.25%. This work not only points towards the significant role of the charge-transfer state disorder on the suppression of triplet exciton formation and the non-radiative energy loss, but also provides a valuable insight for enhancing the performance of OSCs., (© 2024. Translating high-performance organic solar cell (OSC) materials from spin-coating to scalable processing is imperative for advancing organic photovoltaics. For bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrialization, it is essential to understand the structural formation dynamics within the photoactive layer during printing processes. In this study, two typical printing-compatible solvents in the doctor-blading process are employed to explore the intricate mechanisms governing the thin-film formation in the state-of-the-art photovoltaic system PM6:L8-BO. Our findings highlight the synergistic influence of both the donor polymer PM6 and the solvent with a high boiling point on the structural dynamics of L8-BO within the photoactive layer, significantly influencing its morphological properties. The optimized processing strategy effectively suppresses the excessive aggregation of L8-BO during the slow drying process in doctor-blading, enhancing thin-film crystallization with preferential molecular orientation. These improvements facilitate more efficient charge transport, suppress thin-film defects and charge recombination, and finally enhance the upscaling potential. Consequently, the optimized PM6:L8-BO OSCs demonstrate power conversion efficiencies of 18.42% in small-area devices (0.064 cm 2 ) and 16.02% in modules (11.70 cm 2 ), respectively. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the interplay among thin-film formation kinetics, structure dynamics, and device performance in scalable processing.

Post-traumatic tendon adhesions significantly affect patient prognosis and quality of life, primarily stemming from the absence of effective preventive and curative measures in clinical practice. Current treatment modalities, including surgical excision and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, frequently exhibit limited efficacy or result in severe side effects. Consequently, the use of anti-adhesive barriers for drug delivery and implantation at the injury site to address peritendinous adhesion (PA) has attracted considerable attention. Electrospun nanofiber membranes (ENMs) have been extensively employed as drug-delivery platforms. In this study, we fabricated a polylactic acid (PLA)-dipyridamole (DP)-graft copolymer ENM called PLC-DP. This membrane exhibits enzyme-sensitive features, allowing more controlled and sustained drug release compared with conventional drug-loaded ENMs. In experiments, PLC-DP implantation reduced tissue adhesion by 47 % relative to the control group while not adversely affecting tendon healing. Mechanistically, PLC-DP effectively activates the FXYD domain containing ion-transport regulator 2 (FXYD2) protein, thereby downregulating the fibroblast-transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β)/Smad3 signaling pathway. PLC-DP leverages the anti-adhesive properties of DP and the enzyme-sensitive characteristics of graft copolymers, providing a promising approach for the future clinical treatment and prevention of PA. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Peritendinous adhesions (PA) are a common and disabling condition that seriously affects the prognosis and quality of life of post-trauma patients. Current treatments often have limited efficacy or severe side effects, leaving a serious gap in clinical practice. We developed a significant biomaterial, poly(lactic acid)-dipyridamole graft copolymer electrospun nanofibrous membrane (PLC-DP), specifically for PA inhibition. In addition, this study uniquely combines dipyridamole, an anti-adhesive agent, and enzyme-sensitive copolymers in electrospun nanofibrous membrane. Unlike conventional drug-loaded electrospun nanofibrous membranes, PLC-DPs have enzyme-sensitive drug properties that allow for sustained drug release on demand. Our experiments showed that implantation of PLC-DP was effective in reducing tissue adhesions by 47 % without affecting tendon healing. Hospital wastewaters (HWWs) serve as critical reservoirs for disseminating antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB). However, the dynamics and noteworthy shifts of ARGs and their associated pathogenicity, mobility, and resistome risks during HWWs treatment processes remain poorly understood. Utilizing metagenomic sequencing and assembly, we identified 817 ARG subtypes conferring resistance to 20 classes of antibiotics across 18 HWW samples from influent to effluent. Genes encoding resistance to multidrug, aminoglycoside and beta_lactam were the most prevalent ARG types, reflecting patterns observed in clinical settings. On-site treatment efforts decreased the relative abundance of ARGs by 77.4% from influent to secondary sedimentation, whereas chlorine disinfection significantly increased their abundance in the final effluent. Deterministic processes primarily drove the taxonomic assembly, with Proteobacteria being the most abundant phylum and serving as the primary host for 15 ARG types. Contig-based analysis further revealed 114 pathogenic ARB, with Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas alcaligenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibiting multidrug-resistant. The contributions of host bacteria and pathogenic ARB varied throughout wastewater treatment. In addition, 7.10%-31.0 % ARGs were flanked by mobile genetic elements (MGEs), predominantly mediated by transposase (74.1%). Notably, tnpA exhibited the highest potential for ARG dissemination, frequently co-occurring with beta-lactam resistance genes (35.2%). Considering ARG profiles, pathogenic hosts, and transferability, raw influent exhibited the highest antibiotic resistome risk index (ARRI), followed by the final effluent. Chlorine disinfection exacerbated resistome risks by inducing potential pathogenic ARB and mobile ARGs, posing threats to the receiving environment. The selective hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of sustainable lignocellulosic biomass plays a pivotal role in the conversion of biomass into high-value fuels and chemicals. Nevertheless, HDO for biomass upgrading always demands high temperatures and high hydrogen (H 2 ) pressure. Photothermal catalysis has been recognized as an effective approach for boosting chemical reactions under mild conditions while maintaining superior selectivity. Herein, we report the design of palladium-decorated defective tungsten oxide (Pd/WO 3-x ) catalysts with enhanced photothermal catalytic performances for the efficient HDO of vanillin. Pd/WO 3-x nanoflowers have been synthesized through a solvothermal/in-situ reduction two-step strategy, and they exhibit notable photoabsorption in a wide range (200-1100 nm), high photothermal conversion and efficient charge separation efficiency. Under simulated sunlight irradiation (0.3 W cm -2 ), Pd/WO 3-x exhibits a maximum vanillin conversion up to 86.8 % with a 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol (MMP) selectivity of 100 %, which is obviously higher than that (vanillin conversion = 33.1 %, MMP selectivity = 100 %) in the oil bath at the same temperature. Such higher conversion efficiency and selectivity under sunlight should result from the synergistic integration of hot electrons and photothermal heating, both of which are derived from localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in WO 3-x . Importantly, Pd/WO 3-x catalyst demonstrates good stability and high selectivity to MMP even after 5 cycles. Discharging wastewater from industrial dyeing and printing processes poses a significant environmental threat, necessitating green and efficient adsorbents. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have emerged as a promising option for dye adsorbing. However, the industrial production and commercialization of CNCs still faced low yield, time-consuming, and uneco-friendly. In this study, we proposed a facile hydrochloric/maleic acid (HCl/C 4 H 4 O 4 ) hydrolysis method to synthesize carboxylated CNCs using Box-Behnken design and dual response surface design, which can systematically investigate the effect of experimental factors (temperature, time and HCl/C 4 H 4 O volume ratio) on the final products. The rod-liked carboxylated CNCs gave the highest yield of 90.50 %, maximum carboxyl content of 1.29 mmol/g, and efficient dye removal ratio of 91.5 %. Furthermore, compared to CNCs obtained by commonly sulfuric acid hydrolysis way (CNCs-S) with a T max of 242.6 °C, the CNCs extracted at 5 h exhibited significantly improved thermal stability with T max reaching 351.2 °C. Recent scientific interest has surged in the application of bioresources within nanotechnology, primarily because of their eco-friendly nature, wide availability, and cost-effectiveness. Jute is globally recognized as the second most prevalent source of natural cellulose fibers, and it produces a significant quantity of jute sticks as a byproduct. Nanocellulose (NC), which includes cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), exhibits exceptional properties such as high strength, toughness, crystallinity, thermal stability, and stiffness. These attributes enable its versatile use across various sectors. The extensive surface areas and abundant hydroxyl groups of nanocellulose allow for diverse surface modifications, facilitating the design of advanced functional materials. This comprehensive review provides an overview of recent advancements in the synthesis, characterization, and potential applications of nanocellulose derived from jute. As a versatile natural fiber, jute holds immense potential across various research domains, including nanocellulose synthesis, scaffold fabrication, nanocarbon material preparation, life sciences, electronics and energy storage devices, drug delivery systems, nanomaterial synthesis, food packaging and paper industries. Nylon fibers have great potentials in smart textiles due to their excellent wear resistance, resilience, and chemical stability, whereas poor combination between nylon fibers and conductive materials causes discontinuous signal capture. In this work, nylon fibers/di-aldehyde cellulose nanocrystals/polypyrrole (NFACP) biosensors with robust scrub-resistant and signal-capture ability were fabricated by interfacial multiple covalent reactions. The best NFACP 0.2 biosensor exhibited high conductivity (354 S/m), robust mechanical strength and stretching-releasing dynamic durability. Especially, its textile sensors still possessed high sensitivity and excellent sensing performance after repeated washing and friction. Rapid real-time PCR (generally <1 h) has broad prospects. In this study, we synthesized a new type of nanomaterial core-shell tecto-dendrimer coated with Au nanoparticles (Au CSTDs) for research in this field. The experimental results showed that Au CSTDs could significantly shorten the time of real-time PCR (from 72 to 28 min) with different templates, while the detection limit reached 10 copies and the nonspecific amplification was significantly reduced. Furthermore, experimental analyses and theoretical studies using the finite element simulation method confirmed that Au CSTDs function by synergistically enhancing electrostatic adsorption and thermal conductivity. These properties play a key role in improving real-time PCR, especially in particle-particle interactions. This study contributes an advanced method to rapid real-time PCR, which is expected to remarkably improve the efficiency, lower the detection limit, and enhance the specificity of molecular detection.

Endovascular treatment (EVT) using stents has become the primary option for severe cerebrovascular stenosis. However, considerable challenges remain to be addressed, such as in-stent restenosis (ISR) and late thrombosis. Many modified stents have been developed to inhibit the hyperproliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and protect vascular endothelial cells (VECs), thereby reducing such complications. Some modified stents, such as those infused with rapamycin, have improved in preventing acute thrombosis. However, ISR and late thrombosis, which are long-term complications, remain unavoidable. Panax notoginseng saponin (PNS), a traditional Chinese medicine consisting of various compounds, is beneficial in promoting the proliferation and migration of VECs and inhibiting the proliferation of SMCs. Herein, a 3D-printed polycaprolactone (PCL) stent loaded with PNS (PNS-PCL stent) was developed based on a previous study. In vitro studies confirmed that PNS promotes the migration and proliferation of VECs, which were damaged, by increasing the expression levels of microRNA-126, p-AKT, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase. In vivo , the PNS-PCL stents maintained the patency of the carotid artery in rabbits for up to three months, outperforming the PCL stents. The PNS-PCL stents may present a new solution for the EVT of cerebrovascular atherosclerotic stenosis in the future.

Three non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) with varying alkyl chain sizes and lengths but constant fluorine atoms were synthesized. BO-17F and HD-17F, with optimal fluorination, exhibit improved molecular packing and morphology, achieving efficiencies of 14.2% and 14.4%. This work highlights the importance of fine-tuning alkyl chains and fluorination levels in organic solar cells.

Dendritic cells (DCs) activation is crucial for regulating the antitumor immune response. However, the tumor's immunosuppressive environment significantly impedes antigen presentation and DCs maturation, thereby limiting the effectiveness of cancer immunotherapy. To address this challenge, we developed tumor cell membrane-coated covalent organic framework (COF) nanoparticles, loaded with mannose-modified gold nanoparticles and doxorubicin (Dox). This created a cell membrane-camouflaged COF-based nanosatellite designed to enhance tumor-targeted chemoimmunotherapy. The nanosatellite exhibits distinct photothermal properties and releases Dox in a pH-sensitive manner, targeting tumor cells to induce immunogenic cell death (ICD) and expose a wealth of antigens. Crucially, the COF structure is selectively degraded to release mannose-modified gold nanoparticles in the acidic environment. These nanoparticles capture antigens from the ICD and efficiently transport them to lymph nodes rich in DCs, facilitated by mannose receptor mediation. As a result, antigens are effectively presented to DCs, activating the immune response, significantly hindering tumor growth and lung metastasis in mice, and extending survival. Nanoplastics are prevalent in the environment and emerging evidence suggests they can induce organ injury by activating oxidative stress. Given that both nanoplastics and Zn 2+ levels are intertwined with oxidative stress, it is crucial to investigate the influence of nanoplastics on the level of labile Zn 2+ and get a better understanding of their cytotoxicity mechanisms. At the organelle level, the Golgi apparatus plays an active role in stress responses. In this study, we synthesized Golgi-Zn, the first ratiometric fluorescence nanosensor with Golgi apparatus targeting ability for monitoring of Zn 2+ . This nanosensor demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity as well as robust pH stability for Zn 2+ sensing. The ratio of the two fluorescence signals of Golgi-Zn showed a good linearity with Zn 2+ concentration in the range of 0.5-10 μM, achieving a limit of detection of ∼72.4 nM. Furthermore, the nanosensor exhibited low cytotoxicity and effectively targeted the Golgi apparatus. Leveraging these fascinating features, we successfully applied Golgi-Zn for visualizing exogenous and endogenous Zn 2+ levels in the Golgi apparatus. Immune cell-mediated anticancer modalities usually suffer from immune cell exhaustion and limited efficacy in solid tumors. Herein, the oxygen-carrying biomimetic nanoreactors (BNR2(O 2 )) have been developed with photooxidation-driven therapies and antigen-dependent/antigen-free immune reinvigoration against xenograft tumors. The BNR2(O 2 ) composes polymeric nanoreactors camouflaged with cancer cell membranes can efficiently target homotypic tumors. It continuously releases O 2 to boost intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) to oxide diselenide bonds, which controllably releases seleninic acids and anti-folate Pemetrexed compared to hydrogen peroxide and glutathione incubation. The O 2 -rich microenvironment sensitizes Pemetrexed and blocks programmed cell-death ligand 1 (PD-L1) to reverse T cell immunosuppression. The ROS and Pemetrexed upregulate pro-apoptosis proteins and inhibit folate-related enzymes, which cause significant apoptosis and immunogenic cell death to stimulate dendritic cell maturation for improved secretion of cytokines, expanding antigen-dependent T cell immunity. Furthermore, by regulating the release of seleninic acids, the checkpoint receptor human leukocyte antigen E of tumor cells can be blocked to reinvigorate antigen-free natural killer cell immunity. Due to the ordered one-dimensional channel as well as accessible redox sites, two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) have garnered extensive attention in the field of electrochromism. However, organic 2D frameworks impose limitations on charge transfer and the weak interlayer interactions in 2D COFs, adversely affecting the stability during switching processes. Herein, we introduced Ti knots to construct three-dimensional metalated covalent organic frameworks (3D MCOFs), denoted as Ti-DHTA-Py. The Ti knots not only serve as templates for organizing organic units into unique 3D topological structures in a controlled manner but also establish charge transfer pathways conducive to electron delocalization and transmission within the framework. As a result, the 3D Ti-DHTA-Py MCOFs electrode exhibited a reduced band gap and remarkable electrochromic (EC) performances: electrochemical cyclic stability of 93.6% retention after 500 cycles, switching times (2.5 s/0.5 s), and a high coloration efficiency (423 cm 2 C -1 ). This research underscores the potential of 3D MCOFs as promising candidates for advancing EC technologies, surmounting the limitations associated with traditional 2D COFs.

The Cu + active sites have gained great attention in electrochemical nitrate reduction, offering a highly promising method for nitrate removal from water bodies. However, challenges arise from the instability of the Cu + state and microscopic structure over prolonged operation, limiting the selectivity and durability of Cu + -based electrodes. Herein, a self-reconstructed Cu 2 O/TiO 2 nanofibers (Cu 2 O/TiO 2 NFs) catalyst, demonstrating exceptional stability over 50 cycles (12 h per cycle), a high NO 3 - -N removal rate of 90.2%, and N 2 selectivity of 98.7% is reported. The in situ electrochemical reduction contributes to the self-reconstruction of Cu 2 O/TiO 2 nanofibers with stabilized Cu + sites via the electronic metal-support interaction between TiO 2 substrates, as evidenced by in situ characterizations and theoretical simulations. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) calculations also indicate that the well-retained Cu + sites enhance catalytic capability by inhibiting the hydrogen evolution reaction and optimizing the binding energy of * NO on the Cu 2 O/TiO 2 NFs heterostructure surface. Thermal resistance at interfaces/contacts stands as a persistent and increasingly critical issue, which hinders ultimate scaling and the performance of electronic devices. Compared to the extensive research on contact electrical resistance, contact thermal resistance and its mitigation strategies have received relatively less attention. Here, we report on an effective, in situ, and energy-efficient approach for enhancing thermal transport through the contact between semiconducting nanoribbons. By applying microampere-level electrical currents to the contact between Bi 2 Se 3 nanoribbons, we demonstrate that the contact thermal resistance between two nanoribbon segments is reduced dramatically by a factor of 4, rendering the total thermal resistance of two ribbon segments with a contact approximately the same as that of the corresponding single continuous nanoribbon of the same length. Analysis suggests that the ultralow contact thermal resistance is due to enhanced phonon transmission as a result of enhanced adhesion energy at the contact, with marginal contributions from direct electron-phonon coupling, even for ohmic contacts. Our work introduces a broadly applicable electrical treatment approach to various contacts between conducting and semiconducting materials, which has important implications for the design and operation of nanoelectronic devices and energy converters.

The developments of modern surveillance technology pose great challenges to combat concealment for warfighters. Traditional camouflage suits cannot accommodate the need for camouflage stealth in complex warfare scenarios. Herein, a bidirectional diffusion-controlled in situ synthesis methodology is reported to achieve electrochromic nanofibrous membranes with mimetic chameleon skin structures (CSENs) by assembling electrochromic covalent organic frameworks on nanofibers. CSENs exhibit reversible color changes in the visible and near-infrared ranges under an applied potential with fast response times (25.8 s/26.2 s). The macro- and mesoporous structures in CSENs favored the transportation of electrolyte ions, achieving excellent color difference and coloration efficiency of 35.58 and 1053.26 cm 2 /C, respectively. Importantly, CSENs feature unique properties of self-standing, breathability, and flexibility, which are attributed to the micrometer pores constructed by entangled nanofibers. As a proof-of-concept study, the CSEN-based flexible electrochromic suit exhibits a dynamic camouflage function in real environments, showing promising properties as smart textiles for dynamic camouflage stealth.

The emerging non-fullerene acceptors with low voltage losses have pushed the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells (OSCs) to ≈20% with auxiliary morphology optimization. Thermal annealing (TA), as the most widely adopted post-treatment method, has been playing an essential role in realizing the potential of various material systems. However, the procedure of TA, i.e., the way that TA is performed, is almost identical among thousands of OSC papers since ≈30 years ago other than changes in temperature and annealing time. Herein, a reverse thermal annealing (RTA) technique is developed, which can enhance the dielectric constant of active layer film, thereby producing a smaller Coulomb capture radius (14.93 nm), meanwhile, forming a moderate nano-scale phase aggregation and a more favorable face-on molecular stacking orientation. Thus, this method can reduce the decline in open circuit voltage of the conventional TA method by achieving decreased radiative (0.334 eV) and non-radiative (0.215 eV) recombination loss. The power conversion efficiency of the RTA PM6:L8-BO-X device increases to 19.91% (certified 19.42%) compared to the TA device (18.98%). The exploration of strong chemical bonds as synthetic handles offers new disconnection strategies for the synthesis of functionalized molecules via transition metal catalysis. However, the slow oxidative addition rate of these covalent bonds to a transition metal center hampers their synthetic utility. Here, we report a C(sp 3 )-N bond activation strategy that bypasses thermodynamically challenging 2e - or 1e - oxidative addition via a distinct pathway in nickel catalysis. This strategy leverages a previously unknown activation pathway of photoinduced inner-sphere charge transfer of low-valent nickel(isonitriles), triggering a C(sp 3 )-N bond cleavage distal to the metal-ligand interaction to deliver nickel(cyanide) and versatile alkyl radicals. Utilizing this catalytic strategy, the selective intermolecular 1,2-carbocyanation reaction of alkynes with alkyl isonitriles as both alkylating and cyanating agents can be achieved, delivering a wide array of trisubstituted alkenyl nitriles with excellent atom-economy, regio-, and stereoselectivity under mild conditions. Furthermore, Markovnikov-selective hydrocyanation of aliphatic alkynes can be accomplished through the synergistic action of a photocatalyst utilizing isonitriles as the cyanation agents. Mechanistic investigations support the photogeneration of low-valent Ni(isonitrile) complexes that undergo photochemical homolysis of the C(sp 3 )-N bond to engage catalytic cyanation with alkynes.

Introducing collaborative relay and simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) techniques into a cognitive wireless network, named the SWIPT-enabled cognitive relay network (CRN), is considered a promising approach to deal with insufficiency and the low utilization of spectrum resources, as well as the node's energy-constrained issues in wireless networks. In this paper, to improve the network spectrum efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE) of the SWIPT-enabled CRN, we design an energy-efficient adaptive bidirectional transmission strategy. To be specific, we first select an energy-constrained best relay node with the consideration of signal-to-noise ratio and global channel gain to achieve a better bidirectional relay transmission (BRT). At the same time, we let the energy-constrained best relay node transmit a signal with the SWIPT technique, which can solve the node's energy-constrained issue and improve the network EE. Then, with the selected energy-constrained best relay node, we design a total transmit power threshold (TTPT) determining algorithm to find the TTPT, which lets the total transmission rate of the BRT be equal to the bidirectional direct transmission (BDT). Based on this TTPT, we further design an adaptive bidirectional transmission strategy and let the network achieve adaptive transmission between the BRT and BDT to obtain a higher network SE. Furthermore, to further achieve the energy-efficient transmission of the adaptive bidirectional transmission strategy, we optimize the nodes' power under the requirement of primary users' interference threshold and obtain the analytical expressions of the optimal power. Simulation results show that the transmission rate, the outage probability, and the EE of the designed energy-efficient adaptive bidirectional transmission strategy in the SWIPT-enabled CRN are, respectively, 3.01, 0.07, and 3.10 times that of the non-collaborative transmission, which show the effectiveness of our designed transmission strategy.

In surgical medicine, suturing is the standard treatment for large incisions, yet traditional sutures are limited in functionality. Electrical stimulation is a non-pharmacological therapy that promotes wound healing. In this context, we designed a passive and biodegradable mechanoelectric suture. The suture consists of multi-layer coaxial structure composed of (poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), polycaprolactone) and magnesium to allow safe degradation. In addition to the excellent mechanical properties, the mechanoelectrical nature of the suture grants the generation of electric fields in response to movement and stretching. This is shown to speed up wound healing by 50% and reduce the risk of infection. High-frequency electronic response governs a broad spectrum of electromagnetic applications from radiation protection, and signal compatibility, to energy recovery. Despite various efforts to manage electric conductivity, dynamic control over dielectric polarization for real-time electromagnetic modulation remains a notable challenge. Herein, an electrochemical lithiation-driven hierarchical disordering strategy is demonstrated for actively modulating electromagnetic properties. The controllable formation and diffusion of coherent interfaces and cation vacancies tailor the coupling of atomic electric field and thus the locally polarized domains, which leads to the reversible electromagnetic transparency/absorption switching with a tunable range of -0.8--20.4 dB for the reflection loss and a broad operation bandwidth of 4.6 GHz. Compared to traditional methods of heteroatomic doping, hydrogenation, mechanical deformation, and phase transition, the electrochemical strategy shows a larger regulation scope of dielectric permittivity with the maximum increase ratios of 260% and 1950% for real and imaginary parts, respectively. This enables the construction of various device architectures including the adaptive window and pixelated metasurface. Industry-produced hydrazine (N 2 H 4 ) is released into the environment, posing a major risk to human health and the ecosystem. Therefore, it is imperative to develop an effective and convenient method for the detection of N 2 H 4 . Herein, artificial light-harvesting systems (ALHSs) for N 2 H 4 detection were constructed by applying an aggregation-induced emission-active platinum(II) metallacycle ( TPEMc ) as the energy donor and rhodols ( P1 , P2 , and P3 ) as the energy acceptors. The ratiometric fluorescence probes based on ALHSs for N 2 H 4 showed obvious signal amplification and lower limits of detection compared to those of rhodols ( P1 , P2 , P3 ) alone. The TPEMc -rhodols systems clearly demonstrated a noticeable increase in fluorescence intensity at 550 nm and an obvious fluorescent color shift from cyan to yellow in the presence of N 2 H 4 . Fascinatingly, N 2 H 4 could be visually and quantitatively detected in water by the TPEMc -rhodol systems paired with smartphone RGB analysis. Therefore, the combination of platinum(II) metallacycle with rhodols is a promising strategy for simple, sensitive, and visual detection of N 2 H 4 .

A novel rhodamine-based multi-ion fluorescent sensor, RGN, was designed and synthesized for the highly selective detection of mercury ions (Hg 2+ ) in ethanol and water systems, as well as trivalent cations (Fe 3+ , Al 3+ , and Cr 3+ ) in acetonitrile and water systems using a two-step Schiff base reaction method. Nuclear magnetic titration experiments and theoretical calculations demonstrated that the sensor achieved the detection of the aforementioned metal ions through the fluorescence turn-on phenomenon induced by lactam ring-opening. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results showed decreased HOMO-LUMO energy gaps and increased dipole moments, indicating the effective coordination of the sensor with the corresponding metal ions to form more stable complexes, thereby achieving detection objectives. Furthermore, the fluorescence turn-on sensor RGN exhibited relatively low detection limits, with limits of detection (LOD) for Fe 3+ , Al 3+ , Cr 3+ , and Hg 2+ being 10.20 nM, 14.66 nM, 58.78 nM, and 73.33 nM, respectively. As a commonly used food additive, excessive nitrite intake seriously affects people's health in daily life. As the stomach is the main organ involved in nitrite intake, achieving fast and in situ detection of nitrite in the stomach is of great significance for avoiding the hazards caused by nitrite. However, owing to the poor stability or low sensitivity of existing fluorescent probes under acidic conditions, their application for nitrite detection within the stomach remains challenging. To solve this problem, we developed novel probes specifically designed to maintain stability and demonstrate high sensitivity to nitrite under acidic conditions. Utilizing the optimized probe (DHUROS-11), nitrite levels in environmental and real samples were successfully quantified. Biodegradable shape-memory polymers derived from protein substrates are attractive alternatives with strong potential for valorization, although their reconstruction remains a challenge due to the poor processability and inherent instability. Herein, based on Maillard reaction and immobilization, a feather keratin fibrous adsorbent featuring dual-response shape-memory is fabricated by co-spinning with pullulan, heating, and air-assisted spraying ZIF-8-NH 2 . Maillard reaction between the amino group of keratin and the carbonyl group of pullulan improves the mechanics and thermal performance of the adsorbent. ZIF-8-NH 2 immobilization endows the adsorbent with outstanding multipollutant removal efficiency (over 90%), water stability, and photocatalytic degradation and sterilization performance. Furthermore, the adsorbent can be folded to 1/12 of its original size to save space for transportation and allow for rapid on-demand unfolding (12 s) upon exposure to water and ultraviolet irradiation to facilitate the adsorption and photocatalytic activity with a larger water contact area. This research provides new insight for further applications of keratin-based materials with rapid shape-memory features.

Developing flexible electrodes for the application in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) has received great attention and has been still challenging due to their merits of additive-free, lightweight, and high energy density. In this work, a free-standing 3D flexible SIB anode with the composition of SnO 2 @hard carbon@MoS 2 @soft carbon is designed and successfully synthesized. This electrode combines the energy storage advantages and hybrid sodium storage mechanisms of each material, manifested in the enhanced flexibility, specific capacity, conductivity, rate, cycling performances, etc. Based on the synergistic effects, it exhibits much higher specific capacity than SnO 2 carbon nanofibers, as well as more excellent cycling performance (250 mA h g -1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g -1 ) than MoS 2 nanospheres (32 mA h g -1 ). In addition, relevant kinetic mechanisms are also expounded with the aid of theoretical calculation. This work provides a feasible and advantageous strategy for constructing high-performance and flexible energy storage electrodes based on hybrid mechanisms and synergistic effects.

The halides have attracted much attention as novel solid electrolytes because of their easy synthesis, high electrochemical stability, and high ionic conductivities. However, the reported halides for solid electrolytes are still understudied compared with the oxides and sulfides. Here, we studied the Li-Fe-Cl phases that include Li 2 FeCl 4 and Li 6 FeCl 8 . Using the self-doping approach, a maximum ionic conductivity of 2.0 × 10 -4 S cm -1 at 50 °C was achieved for Li 1.8 Fe 1.1 Cl 4 . It was improved by 3 orders of magnitude compared with that of Li 2 FeCl 4 (8.27 × 10 -7 S cm -1 at 50 °C). For the Li|Li 1.8 Fe 1.1 Cl 4 |Li half-cell, it cycled for 2000 h at 50 °C under a current density of 0.01 mA cm -2 , indicating an acceptable compatibility between Li 2 FeCl 4 and Li. Finally, an all-solid-state battery was successfully assembled with Li 1.8 Fe 1.1 Cl 4 @LFP as the cathode, Li 1.8 Fe 1.1 Cl 4 as the electrolyte, and a Li sheet as the anode. The initial specific charge capacity of the battery was 76.36 mAh g -1 at 0.1C and 50 °C. The initial Coulombic efficiency was 73.06%. This study suggests Li 2 FeCl 4 as a new solid electrolyte, and the introduction of Li vacancies into the Li site is an efficient way to improve the electrochemical properties of halides.

High-performance separation materials for oil-water emulsions are crucial to environmental protection and resource recovery; however, most existing fibrous separation materials are subject to large pore size and low porosity, resulting in limited separation performance. Herein, we create high-performance membranes consisting of spherical-beaded nanofibers and nanoarchitectured networks (nano-nets) using electrostatic spinning/netting technology, for water-in-oil emulsion separation. By manipulating the nonequilibrium stretching of jets, spherical-beaded nanofibers capable of generating a robust microelectric field are fabricated as scaffolds, on which charged droplets are induced to eject and phase separate to self-assemble nano-nets with small pores. Benefiting from 3D undulating networks with cavities originating from 2D nano-nets supported by 1D spherical-beaded nanofibers, the membranes exhibit under-oil superhydrophobicity (>152°), a striking separation performance with an efficiency of >99.2% and a flux of 5775 L m -2 h -1 , together with wide pressure applicability, antifouling, and reusability. This work may open up new horizons in developing fibrous materials for separation and purification.

The design of efficient multifunctional nanomedicines to overcome adverse side effects within biological systems and to achieve desirable computed tomography (CT) imaging and therapeutics of tumors remains challenging. Herein, we report the design of multifunctional nanoclusters (NCs) based on generation 3 (G3) poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers. In brief, G3 dendrimers were crosslinked with 4,4'-dithiodibutryic acid (DA) to generate disulfide-bond-containing dendrimer nanoclusters (DNCs), functionalized with 1,3-propane sultone (1,3-PS) to be zwitterionic, in situ loaded with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs), and finally encapsulated with the drug doxorubicin (DOX). The designed DOX/Au@DNCs-PS possess a favorable colloidal stability with a hydrodynamic size of 249.4 nm, a redox-responsive drug release profile, and enhanced cellular uptake in vitro . We show that DOX/Au@DNCs-PS have a greater DOX penetration and growth inhibition of three-dimensional (3D) tumor spheroids than the single dendrimer counterpart in vitro. Furthermore, the developed Au@DNCs-PS enable a better Au-mediated X-ray attenuation property than the single dendrimer counterpart material. Likely due to the amplified enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect, the created Au@DNCs-PS and DOX/Au@DNCs-PS enable better CT imaging and chemotherapeutic effect of a mouse breast tumor model, respectively, than the single dendrimer counterparts. With its proven biocompatibility, the constructed formulation may hold promising potential for development for different cancer nanomedicine applications.

Partial or complete rupture of the tendon can damage the collagen structure, resulting in the disruption of the electrical signal pathway. It is a great challenge to reconstruct the original electrical signal pathway of the tendon and promote the regeneration and functional recovery of defective tendon. In this study, carbon fiber-mediated electrospinning scaffolds were fabricated by wrapping conductive, high-strength, loose single-bundle carbon fibers with nanofiber membranes. Due to the presence of nanofiber membranes, the maximum tensile force of the scaffolds was 2.4 times higher than that of carbon fibers, while providing excellent temporal and spatial prerequisites for tenocytes to adapt to electrical stimulation to accelerate proliferation and expression. The diameter of the carbon fiber monofilaments used in this study was 5.07 ± 1.20 μm, which matched the diameter of tendon collagen, allowing for quickly establishing the connection between the tendon tissue and the scaffold, and better promoting the recovery of the electrical signal pathway. In a rabbit Achilles tendon defect repair model, the carbon fiber-mediated electrospinning scaffold was almost filled with collagen fibers compared to a nonconductive polyethylene glycol terephthalate scaffold. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that fibromodulin and tenomodulin expression were upregulated, and their related proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycan binding proteins pathways were enhanced, which could regulate the TGF-β signaling pathway and optimize the extracellular matrix assembly, thus promoting tendon repair. Therefore, the scaffold in this study makes up for the shortage of conductive scaffolds for repairing tendon defects, revealing the potential impact of conductivity on the signaling pathway of tendon repair and providing a new approach for future clinical studies.

The remarkable adaptability of humans in response to complex environments is often demonstrated by the context-dependent adoption of different behavioral modes. However, the existing game-theoretic studies mostly focus on the single-mode assumption, and the impact of this behavioral multimodality on the evolution of cooperation remains largely unknown. Here, we study how cooperation evolves in a population with two behavioral modes. Specifically, we incorporate Q-learning and Tit-for-Tat (TFT) rules into our toy model and investigate the impact of the mode mixture on the evolution of cooperation. While players in a Q-learning mode aim to maximize their accumulated payoffs, players within a TFT mode repeat what their neighbors have done to them. In a structured mixing implementation where the updating rule is fixed for each individual, we find that the mode mixture greatly promotes the overall cooperation prevalence. The promotion is even more significant in the probabilistic mixing, where players randomly select one of the two rules at each step. Finally, this promotion is robust when players adaptively choose the two modes by a real-time comparison. In all three scenarios, players within the Q-learning mode act as catalyzers that turn the TFT players to be more cooperative and as a result drive the whole population to be highly cooperative. The analysis of Q-tables explains the underlying mechanism of cooperation promotion, which captures the "psychological evolution" in the players' minds. With the advancement of modern medical and brain-computer interface devices, flexible artificial nociceptors with tactile perception hold significant scientific importance and exhibit great potential in the fields of wearable electronic devices and biomimetic robots. Here, a bioinspired artificial intelligent nociceptive alarm system integrating sensing monitoring and transmission functions is constructed using a silk fibroin (SF) fibrous memristor. This memristor demonstrates high stability, low operating power, and the capability to simulate synaptic plasticity. As a result, an artificial pressure nociceptor based on the SF fibrous memristor can detect both fast and chronic pain and provide a timely alarm in the event of a fall or prolonged immobility of the carrier. Further, an array of artificial pressure nociceptors not only monitors the pressure distribution across various parts of the carrier but also provides direct feedback on the extent of long-term pressure to the carrier. This work holds significant implications for medical support in biological carriers or targeted maintenance of electronic carriers.

Maintaining stillness is essential for accurate bioelectrical signal acquisition, but dynamic noise from breathing remains unavoidable. Isotropic adhesives are often used as bioelectronic interfaces to ensure signal fidelity, but they can leave irreversible residues, compromising device accuracy. We propose a hydrogel with selective frequency damping and asymmetric adhesion as a bioelectronic interface. This hydrogel mitigates dynamic noise from breathing, with a damping effect in the breathing frequency range 60 times greater than at other frequencies. It also exhibits an asymmetric adhesion difference of up to 537 times, preventing residues. By homogenizing ion distribution, extending Debye length, and densifying the electric field, the hydrogel ensures stable signal transmission over 10,000 cycles. Additionally, it can non-invasively diagnose otitis media with higher sensitivity than invasive probes and has been effective in clinical polysomnography monitoring, aiding in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea., (© 2024. Polyamide 66 (PA66) has garnered significant attention due to its exceptional properties; unfortunately, its flammability is challenging. Adding flame retardants (FRs) is a primary approach to enhance PA66 flame retardancy. This study developed a highly flame-retardant PA66 composite film by adding corn-like functional nanohybrids (CNC/Al 2 O 3 ). Interestingly, CNC/Al 2 O 3 nanohybrids not only formed hydrogen bond interactions with PA66 but also improved crystallization properties as heterogeneous nucleating agents, resulting in the excellent mechanical properties of PA66 composite film. Remarkably, the incorporation of 3 wt% CNC/Al 2 O 3 nanohybrids into PA66 matrix contributed to increasing the LOI to 28.5 %. The pHRR, THR, and TSR were reduced obviously by 55.7 %, 15.3 %, and 65.2 %, respectively. The excellent flame retardancy of PA66 composite film was attributed to the forming of a compact carbon layer catalyzed by the CNC/Al 2 O 3 nanohybrids. Besides, the homogeneous distribution of CNC/Al 2 O 3 nanohybrids endowed the composite film with excellent heat insulation, and the heat insulation rate was up to 31.9 %. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a well-established treatment modality, typically conducted with single-wavelength irradiation, which may not always be optimal for varying tumor locations and sizes. To address this, photosensitizers with absorption wavelengths ranging from 550 to 760 nm are being explored. Herein, a series of 5,15-diaryltetrabenzoporphyrins (Ar 2 TBPs) were synthesized. All compounds displayed obvious absorption at 550-700 nm (especially at ∼668 nm), intense fluorescence, efficient generation of singlet oxygen and good photodynamic antitumor effects. Notably, compound I 3 (5,15-bis[(4-carboxymethoxy)phenyl]tetrabenzoporphyrin) showed excellent cytotoxicity against Eca-109 cell line upon red light irradiation, with an IC 50 value of 0.45 μM, and phototherapeutic index of 25.8. Flow cytometry revealed that I 3 could induce distinct cell apoptosis. In vivo studies revealed that compound I 3 selectively accumulated at tumor site and exhibited outstanding PDT effect with antitumor activity under single-time administration and light irradiation, and revealed more efficiency than the clinical photosensitizer Verteporfin. The secondary injuries following traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is a multiphasic and complex process that is difficult to treat. Although methylprednisolone (MP) is the only available pharmacological regime for SCI treatment, its efficacy remains controversial due to its very narrow therapeutic time window and safety concerns associated with high dosage. In this study, we have developed an oil-in-gel type of organohydrogel (OHG) in which the binary oleic-water phases coexist, for the local delivery of MP. This new OHG is fabricated by a glycol chitosan/oxidized hyaluronic acid hydrophilic network that is uniformly embedded with a biocompatible oil phase, and it can be effectively loaded with MP or other hydrophobic compounds. In addition to spatiotemporally control MP release, this biodegradable OHG also provides a brain tissue-mimicking scaffold that can promote tissue regeneration. OHG remarkably decreases the therapeutic dose of MP in animals and extends its treatment course over 21 d, thereby timely manipulating microglia/macrophages and their associated with signaling molecules to restore immune homeostasis, leading to a long-term functional improvement in a complete transection SCI rat model. Sorption-based atmospheric water harvesting (SAWH) offers a sustainable strategy to address the global freshwater shortage. However, obtaining sorbents with excellent performance over a wide relative humidity (RH) range and devices with fully autonomous water production remains challenging. Herein, magnesium chloride (MgCl 2 ) is innovatively converted into super hygroscopic magnesium complexes(MC), which can effectively solve the problems of salt deliquescence and agglomeration. The MC are then integrated with photothermal aerogels composed of sodium alginate and carbon nanotubes (SA/CNTs) to form composite aerogels, which showed high water uptake over a wide RH range, reaching 5.43 and 0.27 kg kg -1 at 95% and 20% RH, respectively. The hierarchical porous structure enables the as-prepared SA/CNTs/MC to exhibit rapid absorption/desorption kinetics with 12 cycles per day at 70% RH, equivalent to a water yield of 10.0 L kg -1 day -1 . To further realize continuous and practical freshwater production, a fully solar-driven autonomous atmospheric water generator is designed and constructed with two SA/CNTs/MC-based absorption layers, which can alternately conduct the water absorption/desorption process without any other energy consumption. Solid tumors create a hypoxic microenvironment and this character can be utilized for cancer therapy, but the hypoxia levels are insufficient to achieve satisfactory therapeutic benefits. Some tactics have been used to improve hypoxia, which however will cause side effects due to the uncontrolled drug release. We herein report near-infrared (NIR) photoactivatable three-in-one nanoagents (PCT) to aggravate tumor hypoxia and enable amplified photo-combinational chemotherapy. PCT are formed based on a thermal-responsive liposome nanoparticle containing three therapeutic agents: a hypoxia responsive prodrug tirapazamine (TPZ) for chemotherapy, a vascular targeting agent combretastatin A-4 (CA4) for vascular disturbance and a semiconducting polymer for both photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT). With NIR laser irradiation, PCT generate heat for PTT and destructing thermal-responsive liposomes to achieve activatable releases of TPZ and CA4. Moreover, PCT produce singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) for PDT via consuming tumor oxygen. CA4 can disturb the blood vessels in tumor microenvironment to aggravate the hypoxic microenvironment, which results in the activation of TPZ for amplified chemotherapy. PCT thus enable PTT, PDT and hypoxia-amplified chemotherapy to afford a high therapeutic efficacy to almost absolutely eradicate subcutaneous 4 T1 tumors and effectively inhibit tumor metastases in lung and liver. Locomotion and scratching are basic motor functions which are critically important for animal survival. Although the spinal circuits governing forward locomotion have been extensively investigated, the organization of spinal circuits and neural mechanisms regulating backward locomotion and scratching remain unclear. Here, we extend a model by Danner et al. to propose a spinal circuit model with asymmetrical cervical-lumbar layout to investigate these issues. In the model, the left-right alternation within the cervical and lumbar circuits is mediated by V 0 D and V 0 V commissural interneurons (CINs), respectively. With different control strategies, the model closely reproduces multiple experimental data of quadrupeds in different motor behaviors. Specifically, under the supraspinal drive, walk and trot are expressed in control condition, half-bound is expressed after deletion of V 0 V CINs, and bound is expressed after deletion of V0 (V 0 D and V 0 V ) CINs; in addition, unilateral hindlimb scratching occurs in control condition and synchronous bilateral hindlimb scratching appears after deletion of V 0 V CINs. Under the combined drive of afferent feedback and perineal stimulation, different coordination patterns between hindlimbs during BBS (backward-biped-spinal) locomotion are generated. The results suggest that (1) the cervical and lumbar circuits in the spinal network are asymmetrically recruited during particular rhythmic limb movements. (2) Multiple motor behaviors share a single spinal network under the reconfiguration of the spinal network by supraspinal inputs or somatosensory feedback. Solar energy is a primary form of renewable energy, and photothermal conversion is a direct conversion process with tunable conversion efficiency. Among various kinds of photothermal conversion materials, porous organic polymers (POP) are widely investigated owing to their controllable molecular design, tailored porous structures, good absorption of solar light, and low thermal conductivity. A variety of POP, such as conjugated microporous polymers (CMP), covalent organic frameworks (COF), hyper-crosslinked porous polymers (HCP), polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM), porous ionic polymers (PIP), are developed and applied in photothermal conversion applications of seawater desalination, latent energy storage, and biomedical fields. In this review, a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in POP for photothermal conversion is provided. The micro molecular structure characteristics and macro morphology of POP are designed for applications such as seawater desalination, latent heat energy storage, phototherapy and photodynamic therapy, and drug delivery. Besides, a probe into the underlying mechanism of structural design for constructing POP with excellent photothermal conversion performance is methodicalized. 2D layered Bi 2 WO 6 (BWO) is a widely used attractive photocatalyst for degrading VOCs, but the low visible-light utilization and the easy stacking 2D nanosheets (NSs) limit photocatalysis efficiency and stability. Here, inspired by Eucalyptus, a synergistic strategy of multiscale domain-confinement and electrostatic force action, based on electrospinning is proposed, for fabricating a heteromorphic BWO photocatalyst. It is found that BWO NSs can grow radially in an orderly spaced arrangement along BWO nanofibers (NFs) during sintering, thereby forming 1D/2D BWO junctions like eucalyptus leaves. This interpenetrating 1D/2D network structure not only solves the easy stacking problem of BWO NSs but also selectively exposes the {010} crystal planes that exhibit efficient hole oxidation. In addition, this peculiar structure enriches electrons at the 1D/2D interface to avoid carrier recombination, thus improving the photocatalytic activity. The photocatalyst material with a reduced bandgap width from 2.56 to 2.49 eV can rapidly degrade 100% of acetaldehyde under visible light without using sacrificial agents and photosensitizers and shows superior stability for eight cycles without any decay. To solve the problems of slow regeneration and mismatch of axon regeneration after peripheral nerve injury, nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) have been widely used to promote nerve regeneration. Multichannel NGCs have been widely studied to mimic the structure of natural nerve bundles. However, multichannel conduits are prone to structural instability. Thermo-responsive shape memory polymers (SMPs) can maintain a persistent initial structure over the body temperature range. Electrical stimulation (ES), utilized within nerve NGCs, serves as a biological signal to expedite damaged nerve regeneration. Here, an electrospun shape-persistent conductive NGC is designed to maintain the persistent tubular structure in the physiological temperature range and improve the conductivity. The physicochemical and biocompatibility of these P, P/G, P/G-GO, and P/G-RGO NGCs are conducted in vitro. Meanwhile, to evaluate biocompatibility and peripheral nerve regeneration, NGCs are implanted in subcutaneous parts of the back of rats and sciatic nerves assessed by histology and immunofluorescence analyses. The conductive NGC displays a stable structure, good biocompatibility, and promoted nerve regeneration. Recycling of waste cotton fabrics (WCFs) is a desirable solution to address the problems brought up by fast fashion, but it remains challenging due to inherent limitations in preparing stable and spinnable dopes by dissolving high molecular weight cellulose efficiently and cost effectively. Herein, we show that despite the prevailing concerns of cellulose degradation via glycosidic hydrolysis when dissolved in acids, fast and non-destructive direct dissolution of WCFs in aqueous phosphoric acid (a.q. PA) could be realized using a cyclic freeze-thawing procedure, which combined with subsequent adjustment of degree of polymerization (DP) and degassing yielded stable and spinnable dopes. Regenerated cellulose fibers (RCFs) with favorable tensile strength (414.2 ± 14.3 MPa) and flexibility (15.4 ± 1.5 %) could be obtained by carefully adjusting the coagulation conditions to induce oriented and compact packing of the cellulose chains. 6-Aminocaproic acid (6ACA) and 1,6-hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) are key precursors for nylon synthesis, and both are produced using petroleum-based chemical processes. However, the utilization of bio-based raw materials for biological production of monomers is crucial for nylon industry. In this study, we demonstrated that metabolic engineering of Escherichia coli and selected mutations of α-keto acid decarboxylase successfully synthesized 6ACA and HMDA. An artificial iterative cycle from l-lysine to chain-extended α-ketoacids was introduced into Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). Then, the extended α-ketoacids were decarboxylated and oxidized for 6ACA production. Overexpression of catalase (KatE) combined with the site-directed mutations of α-isopropylmalate synthase (LeuA) contributed synergistic enhancement effect on synthesis of 6ACA, resulting in a 1.3-fold increase in 6ACA titer. Selected mutations in α-keto acid decarboxylase (KivD) improved its specificity and 170.00 ± 5.57 mg/L of 6ACA with a yield of 0.13 mol/mol (6ACA/l-lysine hydrochloride) was achieved by shake flask cultivation of the engineered strain with the KivD# (F381Y/V461I). Meanwhile, the engineered E. coli could accumulate 84.67 ± 4.04 mg/L of HMDA with a yield of 0.08 mol/mol (HMDA/l-lysine hydrochloride) by replacing aldehyde dehydrogenase with bi-aminotransferases. In order to enhance the application of thermoregulated materials, magnetic phase change microcapsules were prepared using a self-assembly method. Paraffin wax was chosen for its fine thermoregulation properties as the core material, while Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles doped in calcium carbonate served as the hybrid shell material. The microcapsules were then blended with sodium alginate and processed into seaweed fibers through wet spinning. The microstructure, thermal, and magnetic properties of the microcapsules were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, a laser particle size analyzer, an X-ray diffractometer, a differential scanning calorimeter, a thermogravimetric analyzer, and a vibrating sample magnetometer. The thermoregulation of the fibers was evaluated using a thermal infrared imager. The results indicated that the microcapsules had a uniform size distribution and good thermal properties. When the mass fraction of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles was 8%, the microcapsules exhibited a saturation magnetization of 2.44 emu/g and an enthalpy value of 94.25 J/g, indicating effective phase change and magnetic properties. Furthermore, the thermoregulated seaweed fibers showed a high enthalpy value of 19.8 J/g with fine shape, offering potential for developing multifunctional fiber products.
