Lithium (Li)-ion batteries have stimulated the societal transformation to clean energy systems. This carry-on electricity is revolutionizing how society communicates, functions, and evolves efficiently by enabling mobile electronics, zero-emission electric vehicles, and stationary energy storage. In preparation for the sustainable energy future, however, there are growing concerns about depleting critical elements used in the Li technology (e.g., lithium, cobalt, and nickel), especially for large-scale applications that will accelerate the rate of elemental consumption. Various non-Li-based rechargeable batteries composed of earth-abundant elements, such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, have been proposed and explored as alternative systems to promote sustainable development of energy storage. In this perspective, we discuss challenges in Li-ion batteries in the sustainability aspect and provide our opinions on the potential applications of non-Li-based batteries. Introduction: Although the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy have been proven, there is still little data explaining neonatal outcomes of maternal pre-pregnancy vaccination. Methods: Here, we investigated the impact of vaccination and SARS-CoV-2 infection on maternal-neonate immune response in a cohort study involving 141 pregnant individuals, and defined the importance of maternal COVID-19 vaccination timing for its effectiveness. Results and discussion: Our data indicate that vertically transferred maternal hybrid immunity provides significantly better antiviral protection for a neonate than either maternal post-infection or post-vaccination immunity alone. Higher neutralization potency among mothers immunized before pregnancy and their newborns highlights the promising role of pre-pregnancy vaccination in neonatal protection. A comparison of neutralizing antibody titers calculated for each dyad suggests that infection and pre-/during-pregnancy vaccination all support transplacental transfer, providing the offspring with strong passive immunity against SARS-CoV-2. Analysis of neutralizing antibody levels in maternal sera collected during pregnancy and later during delivery shows that immunization may exert a positive effect on maternal protection. Diphenyleneiodonium (DPI) has been widely used as an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase (Nox) to discover its function in cardiac myocytes under various stimuli. However, the effects of DPI itself on Ca2+ signaling and contraction in cardiac myocytes under control conditions have not been understood. We investigated the effects of DPI on contraction and Ca2+ signaling and their underlying mechanisms using video edge detection, confocal imaging, and whole-cell patch clamp technique in isolated rat cardiac myocytes. Application of DPI suppressed cell shortenings in a concentration-dependent manner (IC50 of -0.17 µM) with a maximal inhibition of ~70% at ~100 µM. DPI decreased the magnitude of Ca2+ transient and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ content by 20%-30% at 3 µM that is usually used to remove the Nox activity, with no effect on fractional release. There was no significant change in the half-decay time of Ca2+ transients by DPI. The L-type Ca2+ current (ICa) was decreased concentration-dependently by DPI (IC50 of -40.3 µM) with -13.1%-inhibition at 3 µM. The frequency of Ca2+ sparks was reduced by 3 µM DPI (by ~25%), which was resistant to a brief removal of external Ca2+ and Na+. Mitochondrial superoxide level was reduced by DPI at 3-100 µM. Our data suggest that DPI may suppress L-type Ca2+ channel and RyR, thereby attenuating Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release and contractility in cardiac myocytes, and that such DPI effects may be related to mitochondrial metabolic suppression. Background: Treatment and follow-up strategies for silent gallbladder stones in patients before kidney transplantation (KT) remain unknown. Therefore, the authors aimed to elucidate the role of pre-KT cholecystectomy in preventing biliary and surgical complications. Materials and methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 2295 KT recipients and 3443 patients waiting for KT at a single tertiary center from January 2005 to July 2022. The primary outcomes were the incidences of biliary and postcholecystectomy complications in KT recipients. Firth's logistic regression model was used to assess the risk factors for biliary complications. Results: Overall, 543 patients awaiting KT and 230 KT recipients were found to have biliary stones. Among the KT recipients, 16 (7%) underwent cholecystectomy before KT, while others chose to observe their biliary stones. Pre-KT cholecystectomy patients did not experience any biliary complications, and 20 (9.3%) patients who chose to observe their stones experienced complications. Those who underwent cholecystectomy before KT developed fewer postcholecystectomy complications (6.3%) compared with those who underwent cholecystectomy after KT (38.8%, P=0.042), including reduced occurrences of fatal postoperative complications based on the Clavien-Dindo classification. Multiple stones [odds ratio (OR), 3.09; 95% CI: 1.07-8.90; P=0.036), thickening of the gallbladder wall (OR, 5.39; 95% CI: 1.65-17.63; P=0.005), and gallstones > 1 cm in size (OR 5.12, 95% CI: 1.92-13.69, P= 0.001) were independent risk factors for biliary complications. Among patients awaiting KT, 23 (4.2%) underwent cholecystectomy during the follow-up, resulting in one postcholecystectomy complication. Conclusion: Gallstone-related biliary complications following KT and subsequent cholecystectomy was associated with more serious complications and worse treatment outcomes. Therefore, when KT candidates had risk factor for biliary complications, preemptive cholecystectomy for asymptomatic cholecystolithiasis could be considered to reduce further surgical risk. We investigate the relation between a country's level of financial secrecy and market liquidity for non-US stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Our results indicate that non-US stocks from countries with lower levels of financial secrecy have higher market liquidity, as well as a lower probability of information-based trading. Deeper analysis into components of financial secrecy, including a jurisdiction's activity as a tax haven, lends insight into significant drivers of these effects. Our findings suggest that reducing financial secrecy can enhance market liquidity, ultimately benefiting investors and contributing to the overall stability and efficiency of financial markets. This study investigates the effect of defect engineering on the catalytic activity of a NiPS3 monolayer catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Three different types of vacancies on the basal plane of the monolayer are explored through a multi-step mechanism involving the dissociative adsorption of a water molecule and subsequent electrochemical adsorption of the dissociated proton. Co-formation of vacancies in both Ni and S sites is found to be the most effective in enhancing the catalytic performance of the monolayer. A key resource for the reaction thermodynamics is the S-substitution-like physisorption of a water molecule on a vacant S site, followed by the dissociative occupation of OH and H into vacant sites of S and Ni elements, boosted by the NiS di-vacancy configuration with low activation energy barriers. Investigation reveals the highest contribution of bonding orbitals to the monolayer-H bond makes it the most desirable defect engineering approach for transition metal phosphorus chalcogenides with high HER activities. Physicochemical factors, plankton biomass, and sediment were measured from 1998 to 2000 at two months' interim in a eutrophic shoreline Lake, Hwajinpo, in Korea. The lake is isolated from the sea by a narrow sand hill. Coastal zone is well vegetated with floating leaved marine plants. The lake basin is divided into two sub-basins by a shallow ridge. It has disturbance of seawater by stormy waves. Stable chemoclines are made by salinity variations at depth of 1 m around the year. Dissolved Oxygen was often very low (<1 mgO2/L) at hypolimnion. Temperature reverse were detected in November. Nitrate and Ammonium concentrations were also very low (< 0.1 mgN/L), while TN was usually 2.0~3.5 mgN/L. In general, TN/TP was lower than the Redfield ratio. Transparency was 0.2~1.7m, and COD, TP, and TN of sediment were 3.1~40.3 mg O2/g, 0.91~1.39 mgP/g, and 0.34~3.07 mgN/g, respectively. Phytoplankton chlorophyll-a concentrations were mostly over 40 mg/m³. Two basins showed different phytoplankton groups with Oscillatoria sp., Trachelomonas sp., Schizochlamys gelatinosa, and Anabaena spiroides dominant in South basin, and with Trachelomonas sp., Schroederia sp., Schizochlamys gelatinosa, and Trachelomonas sp. dominant in the North basin. Despite being an essential specialty, pediatrics in South Korea faces the threat of collapse. While the declining birth rate is an important contributor to the decrease in the pediatric population, a more critical issue lies in the dysfunctional healthcare system. Primary care pediatricians are troubled by the lack of patients, whereas tertiary care specialists are concerned about the shortage of doctors. Although the absolute number of pediatric specialists is not small, there is a scarcity of doctors willing to specialize in pediatrics. Recently, pediatric abdominal ultrasonography has been conducted in tertiary hospitals. However, there is an argument that this responsibility should be shifted to primary care pediatricians. As someone who has been performing pediatric abdominal ultrasound examinations for years, I am committed to educating pediatric specialists in this field. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the predictors of both early- and delayed-onset PTSD over a 2-year period following physical injuries. Methods: Patients were recruited from a trauma center at a university hospital in South Korea (June 2015 ~ January 2021). At baseline, 1142 patients underwent comprehensive assessments including socio-demographic, pre-trauma, traumarelated, and peri-trauma evaluations. Diagnoses of acute stress disorder (ASD) and subthreshold ASD were also determined using the Clinician-administered PTSD Scale (CAPS). Follow-up assessments at three months included diagnoses of PTSD and subthreshold PTSD using CAPS, and stressful life events (SLEs), with additional evaluations at 6, 12, and 24 months. The analyzed sample comprised 1014 patients followed up at least once after the baseline and 3-month evaluations. PTSD diagnoses were categorized into early-onset (within the first six months after trauma) and delayed-onset (more than six months after trauma). Logistic regression models identified predictors for each group. Results: Early-onset and delayed-onset PTSD were diagnosed in 79 and 35 patients, respectively. Early-onset PTSD was predicted by previous psychiatric disorders, previous traumatic events, ASD and subthreshold ASD diagnoses, and higher anxiety levels. In contrast, delayed-onset PTSD was linked to higher education, higher injury severity, and subthreshold PTSD and SLEs at 3-month follow-up. Conclusion: Distinct predictors were found for early-onset and delayed-onset PTSD. The findings underscore the heterogeneous factors influencing the temporal development of PTSD post-trauma, and may provide valuable guidance for more targeted interventions and improved patient outcomes. Afferent loop syndrome (ALS) is a rare complication of gastrectomies and gastrointestinal reconstruction. This can predispose patients to fatal conditions, such as cholangitis, pancreatitis, and duodenal perforation with peritonitis. Therefore, emergency decompression is necessary to prevent these complications. Herein, we report two cases in which transcholecystic duodenal drainage, an alternative decompression treatment, was performed in ALS patients without bile duct dilatation. Two patients who underwent distal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis sought consultation in an emergency department for epigastric pain and vomiting. On CT, ALS with acute pancreatitis was diagnosed. However, biliary access could not be achieved because of the absence of bile duct dilatation. To overcome this problem, a duodenal drainage catheter was placed to decompress the afferent loop after traversing the cystic duct via a transcholecystic approach. BACKGROUND: The Murray law--based quantitative flow ratio (μFR) is an emerging technique that requires only 1 projection of coronary angiography with similar accuracy to quantitative flow ratio (QFR). However, it has not been validated for the evaluation of noninfarct-related artery (non-IRA) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) settings. Therefore, our study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of μFR and the safety of deferring non-IRA lesions with μFR >0.80 in the setting of AMI. METHODS: μFR and QFR were analyzed for non-IRA lesions of patients with AMI enrolled in the FRAME-AMI trial (Fractional Flow Reserve Versus Angiography-Guided Strategy for Management of Non-Infarction Related Artery Stenosis in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction), consisting of fractional flow reserve (FFR)--guided percutaneous coronary intervention and angiography-guided percutaneous coronary intervention groups. The diagnostic accuracy of μFR was compared with QFR and FFR. Patients were classified by the non-IRA μFR value of 0.80 as a cutoff value. The primary outcome was a vessel-oriented composite outcome, a composite of cardiac death, non-IRA--related myocardial infarction, and non-IRA--related repeat revascularization. RESULTS: μFR and QFR analyses were feasible in 443 patients (552 lesions). μFR showed acceptable correlation with FFR (R=0.777; P<0.001), comparable C-index with QFR to predict FFR ≤0.80 (μFR versus QFR: 0.926 versus 0.961, P=0.070), and shorter total analysis time (mean, 32.7 versus 186.9 s; P<0.001). Non-IRA with μFR >0.80 and deferred percutaneous coronary intervention had a significantly lower risk of vessel-oriented composite outcome than non-IRA with performed percutaneous coronary intervention (3.4% versus 10.5%; hazard ratio, 0.37 [95% CI, 0.14-0.99]; P=0.048). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with multivessel AMI, μFR of non-IRA showed acceptable diagnostic accuracy comparable to that of QFR to predict FFR ≤0.80. Introduction: Kidney transplant recipients often experience significant alterations in their immune system, which can lead to increased susceptibility to infections. This study aimed to analyze time-dependent changes in serum immunoglobulin and complement levels and determine the risk factors associated with infection. Methods: A retrospective analysis of serum samples from 192 kidney transplant recipients who received transplantations between August 2016 and December 2019 was conducted. The serum samples were obtained at preoperative baseline (T0), postoperative 2 weeks (T1), 3months (T2), and 1 year (T3). The levels of serum C3, C4, IgG, IgA, and IgM were measured to evaluate immune status over time. Results: The analysis revealed significant decreases in IgG and IgA levels at T1. This period was associated with the highest occurrence of hypogammaglobulinemia (HGG) and hypocomplementemia (HCC), as well as an increased incidence of severe infection requiring hospitalization and graft-related viral infections. Using a time-dependent Cox proportional hazards model adjusted for time-varying confounders, HGG was significantly associated with an increased risk of infection requiring hospitalization (HR, 1.895; 95% CI: 1.871--1.920, P-value<0.001) and graft-related viral infection (HR, 1.152; 95% CI: 1.144--1.160, P-value<0.001). Discussion: The findings suggest that monitoring serum immunoglobulin levels post-transplant provides valuable insights into the degree of immunosuppression. Hypogammaglobulinemia during the early post-transplant period emerges as a critical risk factor for infection, indicating that serumimmunoglobulins could serve as feasible biomarkers for assessing infection risk in kidney transplant recipients. This study aims to report the complete chloroplast genome of Solidago altissima L., a globally recognized invasive plant. The complete genome length of S. altissima is 152,961 bp; S. altissima has a typical quadripartite structure (including a large single copy of 84,829 bp, a small single copy of 18,084 bp, and two inverted repeat regions of 25,024 bp), which is commonly found in angiosperms. The genome contains 129 genes, consisting of 85 coding sequences, 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. To understand the phylogenetic relationship between S. altissima and its related species, maximum likelihood analysis was performed. The results revealed that S. altissima is closely related to Symphyotrichum subulatum. The findings of the present study could provide fundamental data for the future phylogenetic and evolutionary studies, while also research on species invasion and resolving complexity of S. altissima. Objective: To evaluate the effect of the ethyl acetate fraction derived from Sargassum pallidum extract against particulate matter (PM)-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in HaCaT cells and zebrafish. Methods: HaCaT cells and zebrafish were used to evaluate the protective effects of the ethyl acetate fraction of Sargassum pallidum extract against PM-induced oxidative stress and inflammation. The production of nitric oxide (NO), intracellular ROS, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and the expression levels of COX-2, iNOS, and NF-κB were evaluated in PM-induced HaCaT cells. Furthermore, the levels of ROS, NO, and lipid peroxidation were assessed in the PM-exposed zebrafish model. Results: The ethyl acetate fraction of Sargassum pallidum extract significantly decreased the production of NO, intracellular ROS, and PGE2 in PM-induced HaCaT cells. In addition, the fraction markedly suppressed the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibited the expression levels of COX-2, iNOS, and NF-κB. Furthermore, it displayed remarkable protective effects against PM-induced inflammatory response and oxidative stress, represented by the reduction of NO, ROS, and lipid peroxidation in zebrafish. Conclusions: The ethyl acetate fraction of Sargassum pallidum extract exhibits a protective effect against PM-induced oxidative stress and inflammation both in vitro and in vivo and has the potential as a candidate for the development of pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical products. This study was conducted to determine the effect of traffic stress by soil compaction on zoysiagrass by analyzing the aerial and underground parts and hyperspectral analysis. Zoysiagrass plants were subjected to a compaction strength gradient from 35 to 80 kgf/cm² to confirm the compaction resistance and recoverable limit and measure the physiological change during stress. Changes in leaf color, photosynthesis, and hyperspectral reflectance due to continuous weak and strong traffic stress were measured, and vegetation indices were evaluated for the critical traffic stress injury assessment. As a result, the stem of the zoysiagrass was severely damaged up to 70 kgf/cm² based on soil hardness. The recoverable limit strength of soil compaction was 55 kgf/cm² under weak response pressure conditions. Collectively, our results show that the damage of weak compaction strength on the zoysiagrass was quickly recovered after the stop of traffic stress, especially since the growth of the underground part was increased by weak traffic stress. However, if the compaction strength above 65 kgf/cm² lasted for a long time, the growth of the underground part is limited by lowering the energy supply for the recovery occurred, in turn, the recovery occurred slowly after the compaction was stopped. Among the vegetation indices obtained from hyperspectral data, pigment specific simple ratio for chlorophyll a (PSSRa), pigment specific simple ratio for chlorophyll b (PSSRb), and pigment specific simple ratio for carotenoids (PSSRc) were effective in evaluating the damage of traffic stress. Background and aims: Favourable clinical data were published on the efficacy of CT-P13, the first biosimilar of infliximab (IFX), in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); however, few studies have compared the effect on endoscopic healing (EH) and drug retention rate between the IFX originator and CT-P13. Therefore, we aimed to compare EH and the drug retention rate between the IFX originator and CT-P13. Methods: Children with Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC)/IBD-unclassified (IBD-U) at 22 medical centers were enrolled, with a retrospective review conducted at 1-year and last follow-up. Clinical remission, EH and drug retention rate were evaluated. Results: We studied 416 pediatric patients with IBD: 77.4% had CD and 22.6% had UC/IBD-U. Among them, 255 (61.3%) received the IFX originator and 161 (38.7%) received CT-P13. No statistically significant differences were found between the IFX originator and CT-P13 in terms of corticosteroid-free remission and adverse events. At 1-year follow-up, EH rates were comparable between them (CD: P=0.902, UC: P=0.860). The estimated cumulative cessation rates were not significantly different between the two groups. In patients with CD, the drug retention rates were 66.1% in the IFX originator and 71.6% in the CT-P13 group at the maximum follow-up period (P >0.05). In patients with UC, the drug retention rates were 49.8% in the IFX originator and 56.3% in the CT-P13 group at the maximum follow-up period (P >0.05). Conclusions: The IFX originator and CT-P13 demonstrated comparable therapeutic response including EH, clinical remission, drug retention rate and safety in pediatric IBD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ectopic breast tissue can develop along the mammary ridge from the axilla to the groin, and the most common site is the axillae. Primary carcinoma of ectopic breast tissue is extremely rare. We report a rare case of a 61-year-old woman with a palpable mass in her left axilla who had a history of surgical excision of accessory breast tissue in the same area. Mammography (MMG), including axillary tail view, ultrasound (US), and breast MRI were performed. We evaluated the extent and characteristics of the microcalcifications in the axillary tail view. A US-guided biopsy was done, and histopathology revealed an invasive ductal carcinoma. Enhanced abdominal CT revealed multiple hepatic masses consistent with metastases, and the patient received palliative chemotherapy. Herein, we present a rare case of breast cancer arising from accessory breast tissue in the axilla, best appreciated on the axillary tail view of the patient's MMG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we create a virtuous cycle ecosystem of AI data for judging electric fire status. Data collection reflects feedback on inspection results such as collection of electric fire status judgment data through cloud sourcing and purification, processing, inspection and data disclosure of the collected data. It is necessary to determine the cause of the damage through fire forensics in order to confirm the property damage caused by the fire. The damage investigation so far is based on the experience of the investigator, and it is difficult to conduct a sufficient investigation and analysis of multiple fires. Accordingly, by building a data set for AI learning for the cause analysis of electric fires, The AI composition that can overcome the subjective and unprofessionalism of the forensic of electric fires is made.
