173. Cornstarch nanocrystals as a potential fat replacer in reduced fat O/W emulsions: A rheological and physical study

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate cornstarch nanocrystals (CSNC) suspensions (10, 12 and 14%) as a fat replacer in reduced fat emulsions (25% fat reduced: 25FR, 50% fat reduced: 50FR and 75%fat reduced: 75FR). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) showed rounded edge platelet-like particles with size around 10–150 nm. Sulfate content and zeta potential of CSNC were 0.21% and −34.6 mV, respectively. Nanocrystals crystallinity (36.8%) was higher than the source starch (25.7%). Rheological and physical properties of reduced fat emulsions were compared to full-fat emulsion (control, 80% fat). All the emulsions indicated good homogeneity (PDI = 0.21–0.29). There was no significant difference between the Z-average of the control and some samples (25FR with 14% CSNC, 50FR with 12% CSNC and 75FR with 10–12% CSNC). The reduced fat emulsions showed higher absolute zeta potential values (33.2–39.4 mV) than control (31.9 mV), resulting from the negatively charged surface of CSNC. Although the full-fat emulsion revealed the highest whiteness index (99.27), no significant changes were observed at the low levels of fat reduction and CSNC substitution. On the basis of dynamic rheological properties, the emulsions indicated a more solid like behavior as a result of fat reduction and CSNC addition, related to smaller droplet size and more negative charges. The reduced fat samples had more spreadability than the control. The results indicated a probable formation of nanocrystal network in the continuous phase, which trapped the oil droplets and prevented creaming after 6-month storage.

175. Anatomical Variation of the Cystic Duct: A Case Report.

Abstract

During a cholecystectomy, cystic duct anatomical variation mostly transpires might experience. Understanding the complex anatomy of the cystic duct and cholecystitis junction is crucial before undergoing biliary surgery to prevent severe ductal damage. This article highlights two unusual cases of irregular cystic duct i.e., cystic duct narrow-wide and low lateral insertion. The first case was of a 66 year old male patient having chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. The aberrant cystic duct entry was thought to be rapid and heading into the correct duct during surgery. Multiple calculi were discovered after more investigation of the common and proper hepatic ducts. Following the completion of the cholecystectomy, the standard and right hepatic ducts were drained using T-tubes. The two T-tubes were found in the cystic and common hepatic ducts, respectively, according to postoperative T-tube cholangiography. The distal choledochus residual stones were removed six weeks later by cholangioscopy through the T-tube's sinus tract. Preoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the second case of a 44-year-old woman exposed to a lengthy cystic duct with a small and bent-in lumen. The cholecystectomy was done openly on the patient. Both of the patients recovered. The approach described by the authors for identifying structural changes in the cystic duct is preoperative or MRCP or ERCP, as well as intraoperative cholangiography or cholangioscopy. Abstract

Objectives The present study investigated whether regional anesthetic techniques, especially truncal blocks, can provide adjunct anesthesia without the additional risk of general anesthesia and neuraxial techniques for subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) implantation. Design Single-center, prospective, randomized study. Setting Holding area and operating room at a single-center tertiary care hospital. Participants The study comprised 22 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status 3 or 4 patients with severe cardiac disease undergoing S-ICD implantation. Interventions Patients received either a combination of serratus anterior plane block and transversus thoracis plane block or surgical infiltration of local anesthetics. Measurements and Main Results Perioperative analgesic medication in the fascial plane block group versus the surgical wound infiltration group, visual analog pain scale score (0-10), intraoperative vital signs, total procedure time, and length of stay in the intensive care unit were measured. Total intraoperative fentanyl requirements (µg) were significantly less in the truncal block group versus the surgical infiltration group (45 [25-50] v 90 [50-100]; p = 0.026), and no patients had any adverse sequelae related to the study. Median intraoperative propofol use in the surgical infiltration group was 66.48 (47.30-73.73) µg/kg/min, and 65.95 (51.86-104.86) µg/kg/min for the truncal block group. This difference between the groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.293). Conclusions The performance of both the serratus anterior plane block and transversus thoracis plane blocks for S-ICD implantation are appropriate and may have the benefit of decreasing intraoperative opioid requirements.

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of the chalcones with azomethine ylide (generated by isatin and sarcosine) has been constructed to functionalize novel spiropyrrolidines. The synthesized compounds (4a–d) structures were characterized by modern spectroscopic techniques and further corroborated a compound 4a by single crystal X-ray study. The in vitro antibacterial activity of novel spiropyrrolidines was evaluated against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains Bacillus subtillis, Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. Among them, compound 4c was found the most potent antibacterial agent. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) observed was 75 and 125 µg/mL against all targeted Gram-positive and negative strains respectively. Furthermore, the compounds were also explored for their inhibitory potential against a known therapeutic target and an essential bacterial enzyme, DNA gyrase using computational methods.

Abstract

N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are an eminent class of carbenes having a heterocyclic ring in which a divalent carbon atom is attached directly to a nitrogen atom. In the NHCs, the donation of lone pair is another important research in the dative bonding and not only in NHCs the dative bond plays a functionalized role in the other classes of complex formation like ylidones L → E ← L and carbones L → C ← L. M–NHC bond is L-M sigma-dative bond and NHCs are considered as strong sigma-donor ligands. The clear picture of the M–NHC bond can be better understood by M–NHC pi-interaction. M-L pi interaction is comprised of two steps. One is L → M sigma-donation and M → L π* back bonding. This dative donor nature of NHC and also its behavior in organoselenium is studied through DFT in which it's optimized structure, bond lengths, molecular vibrations are calculated. Abstract

The Stope Boundary Optimization (SBO) problem refers to the layout design of production areas (stopes) in an underground mining operation. It falls within the domain of strategic mine planning and a model that addresses this problem aims to maximize profitability, offers optimal management of mineral resources and facilitates decision making around capital investments. The SBO problem is computationally complex and a method that offers solution within a reasonable computation time does not exist. In this article, a combination of a new greedy algorithm and a pattern search technique with an integer programming model is proposed. An implementation of the proposed method on three realistic case studies confirms its efficiency in generating robust solutions with a better optimality gap and considerably less computational effort. The plants Rutaceae family are known to have contributed a lot toward food and medicine. The most important metabolites of the family are flavonoids. A systematic review was conducted to collect chemical and pharmacological information of flavonoids isolated from family Rutaceae till 2018. A plethora of flavonoids have been isolated and studied systematically for various bioactivities, including anticancer, antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, in bronchitis, ulcers, and so on.
