The importance of children's literature and its translation occupies a special position all over the world, as the target groups of readers are children. Using three different children's books translated from German into Albanian, the various possibilities of translating personal names in children's literature are examined. Due to these different children's books, it is examined which principles can or must be used to translate the names, and whether the fact that it is children's literature has a particular effect on the translation process and the results. Translation strategies have been the subject of extensive research. However, each author or theorist's definition expresses his or her own point of view, and their opinions diverge from one another. The majority of theories concur that translators employ techniques when literal translation fails to solve a problem. Consequently, several translation procedures have been examined and explained by diverse researchers from their individual points of view. This study describes and contrasts some of the most well-known hypotheses in this field. This study's objectives were to provide the many theories in the field of translation strategies and to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the literature to aid in the study of translation strategies in future research. This article offers the clearest taxonomy of translation strategies that professional translators use when they encounter a translation problem while performing a translation task. While English and other Germanic languages make extensive use of compounding as a means of expanding their lexicons, in Romanian and Romance languages, in general, compounding is merely a minor word formation process. For this reason, the translation of English compounds into Romanian is a challenging endeavour that usually involves the spelling out of syntactic and semantic information otherwise implicit in the original derivatives. Building on these ideas, the present paper explores the translation strategies employed to render deverbal -ed adjectival compounds into Romanian. It is shown that the typological differences between the two languages lead translators to adopt strategies which, to a large extent, entail obligatory explicitation (see Klaudy & Kâroly 2005, Klaudy 2003, 2009, 2017, Moles-Cases 2019, etc.), though cases of implicitation are not excluded. The issue of how the legacy of Islamic political thought was evaluated by Ottoman political thinkers is important for understanding how the Ottomans established contact with the scholar and intellectual accumulation that preceded them. Focusing on translations as one of the constitutive elements of Ottoman political thought, this study examines around 170 texts translated from Arabic and Persian in the field of political thought in the Ottoman Empire between the 14th and 18th centuries and focuses on the translation methods used by the translators who translated the works of Islamic political thought written in these two languages into Ottoman Turkish and what kind of changes they made while transferring the source text into Turkish. In this way, it is attempted to determine after which steps the translated works, which were one of the ways of producing political thought in the Ottoman Empire, were presented to the Ottoman agenda and what kind of contributions these works contain in terms of Ottoman political thought. This article, which limits itself to the texts of disciplines such as âdâb (siyasatnâme-nasihatnâme), philosophy-ethics, fiqh, hadith, and Sufism, first analyzes the information provided by a limited number of translators describing the translation procedure. Subsequently, the translated texts are compared with the source texts, and the translation methods of the translators are categorized under the headings of "literal translations", "free translations", "compilation type translations" and "partial/selected translations". The literal translation method is a method that mostly manifests itself in early translations and involves a very limited contribution of the translator. Free translations are a more widespread type of translation that spans all periods. Numerous examples show that Ottoman translators considered it sufficient to provide the meal-i munif of the texts as an extension of the practical benefit they expected from the book they were translating. The compilation type of translations, on the other hand, is characterized by the selection and translation of hadiths related to certain topics (such as imâma, obedience, jihad, justice, etc.). This can also be seen in the compilations of political advice works made from different political books written in Arabic and Persian. "Partial/selected translations", on the other hand, do not deal with work from beginning to end but translate a certain part of it in full. This method, which was frequently used by Ottoman translators, takes shape as an extension of the idea of "extending the benefit to everyone", which was one of the primary purposes of translating works. In this method, the translators omitted the parts that they considered useless or unnecessary, and limited themselves to translating the parts that would be of direct use to the addressee audience. Finally, some texts that present themselves as "original" without mentioning their relationship with "the source text" have been identified and these have been handled under the concept of "implicit translation". The second part of the article focuses on how translators take initiative in translation. In this part, the subject is examined under the following headings: "Interventions that improve or reduce and clean the text", "writing a separate introduction and conclusion to the translation, not translating the introduction of the author of the source text", "adding depth to the language and subject matter", "Domesticating (Hanafization and Ottomanization) of the text", "correction of the source text, criticism or justification of its claims", and "giving the translation an original name that often includes a reference to the source text". Subsequently, the subjection of translated texts to interlingual translation is discussed. Ottoman translators made important contributions to their translations, especially in terms of improving the text. In this respect, in addition to the practices such as opening up missing or closed issues, making the text comprehensible, and transferring additional anecdotes to deepen the subject, additions are also made to criticize the practices and practitioners of the period in which they are located and such practices can be found in almost every translated text. Again, for the views expressed in the texts translated for a Turkish and Hanafi audience to appeal to this audience, it is seen that these views in the texts containing the views of different sects are subjected to an operation that we can express as a kind of "Hanafization". In other words, the translators add the views of the Hanafi madhhab, which are not mentioned in the source text, to the translated text, and sometimes expand the subject in terms of Hanafism by referring to different Hanafi legal sources. Again, objections are raised to texts that contain statements against the Hanafi understanding, and these claims against Hanafism are answered. Thus, the translated text is adapted to the level of perception and acceptance of the Ottoman interlocutors. In addition to how the source texts were brought closer to the Ottoman interlocutors in terms of fiqh content within the framework of the emphasis on Hanafism, "Ottomanization" was also carried out in various ways. As a different dimension of the interventions made in the form of adaptation and addition to the text, issues of importance in the context of the Ottomans can be added to the translation. While doing this, special attention is given to examples selected from the Ottoman milieu or deemed acceptable by the Ottomans, and Ottoman-centered ideal sultan typologies are highlighted. There may also be additions that portray the Ottoman dynasty as the legitimate representatives of Islamic history. In these respects, in some cases, there is a significant departure from the source text and the translator's contribution becomes much more evident. Another indication of the Ottomanization process can be seen in the translations made by extracting from the source text. Thus, the focus is on what is meaningful/useful in the Ottoman context/specific to the addressee/audience, and issues that would pose a problem in this respect (such as the conditions required for the caliph and especially the issue of the Qurayshism of the caliphate) are omitted. Finally, the article touches upon the issue of which of the classical texts that are frequently referenced in contemporary Islamic political thought literature have not been translated into Ottoman Turkish, and it is determined that many classical texts that are considered important by contemporary Islamic political thought literature (such as Ibn Muqaffā, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Bājja, Mawardī, Ferrā, al-Juwaynī, and Ibn Jamā'a's works) were not translated by Ottoman translators. This situation necessitates a rethinking of the Mavardī and al-Farabi-centered historiography of political thought, which is the dominant conception of contemporary literature. When the translation preferences, procedures, and dispositions of the Ottoman translators are evaluated as a whole, it is understood that a significant portion of the translated texts constitutes an important part of Ottoman political thought as texts that were largely shaped by the contributions of the translators and that have originality. Therefore, any study that does not consider translated works or ignores the multidimensional aspect of these works will be far from reflecting the holistic picture of Ottoman political thought. The present study examines the strategies used by Saudi undergraduate students when translating adjective plus noun collocations and verb plus object collocations in political texts from English into Arabic. An English proficiency test, along with a translation test, were conducted to evaluate the performance of the students. The translation test consisted of 10 English collocations selected from 53 random extracts from two online articles on the BBC and The Guardian websites, focusing on the Beirut port explosions in August 2020. The results show that the literal translation technique was highly dominant in translating both types of classification. This indicates that students encounter some obstacles when it comes to determining the correct equivalents in Arabic. However, the data show that sometimes literal translation can sometimes be adequate in translating the political collocations in both types. The data also reveal that a synonymy strategy was adopted more frequently in translating the verb + object than the noun + adjective. This is mainly because the frequency of (un)restrictedness of collocation errors may be limited in political texts because the structure of political texts is different from that of other texts, in the sense that it has a limited number of culture-specific collocations that are frequently translated, and therefore an equivalent can easily be found in the target language. The present work discusses the complex nature of the term 'gender' in legal discourse, in the wake of the recent pushbacks that the 2011 Istanbul Convention has received from anti-feminist movements and nations that have not signed/ratified the document or have withdrawn from it. Though its original aim was to protect women's rights, the debate has eventually surfaced deeply-rooted problems linked to gender-related vocabulary. For this reason, the study will analyse the use of the terms 'gender' and 'sex' in the 1995 UN Beijing Declaration, the 1998 Rome Statute, and the 2011 Istanbul Convention, from a synchronic and diachronic perspective. It aims to provide a critical comparison of the definitions, translations, and interpretations of the term 'gender', in an attempt to overcome some of the issues involved in the harmonisation of EU documentation, which could certainly help guarantee fundamental rights and convince more states to sign/ratify the Convention, or at least, not allow them to use issues not related to women's rights to not accept the document. The interpretation of gender-related violence is still 'in progress', and the lack of harmonisation could eventually hinder fundamental human rights instead of helping the Istanbul Convention save lives. The translation is necessary for developing knowledge and ideas, but it also makes the people understand the language and culture of other people or countries. However, equivalence is essential during translation, especially when the translator wants to translate idiomatic expressions in the best possible way. Therefore, it is necessary to follow up on some strategies during the translation process. The research work is carried out under the qualitative method with textual analysis techniques as significant. Mona Baker's model for idiomatic expression is explored with the help of different examples from collected data. The primary purpose of this study is to find out which types of strategies are being followed by the translator during the translation process. During research translation by paraphrasing, translation by similar meaning and similar form, translation by similar meaning and dissimilar form is found while translation by omission were missing. This paper focuses on the issue of multilingualism in contemporary literary texts, which contain examples of code-switching or words and expressions in different languages, which contribute to placing emphasis on the foreignness and strangeness of the characters or narrators of the stories. This study stems from the edition of a compilation of short narrative and dramatic texts translated into Spanish by authors who build up stories from a position of in-betweenness, rejection, or displacement. In this context, the presence of different languages contributes to revealing the multilingual and multicultural reality that provides the background for the different stories. They are all concerned about manifesting their vital experiences of (un)belonging to a certain labelled culture or identifiable group, often from a diasporic point of view. Some real examples of translation processes will be provided to show the strategies employed to preserve an effect of strangeness on readers, to reveal feelings of (un)belonging, to manifest a variety of identities, or to make explicit culturally marked terms. Translation is then approached from the perspectives of cosmopolitism, diversity, and postcolonial studies, which rely on multilingualism as a signal of a diversified and multicultural identity. The Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish, is a master of weaving various intellectual sources and different types of religious, artistic, historical, and mythical figures into his poetry. Like any exceptional piece of art, his poetry triggers an immediate response. It blends the aesthetic with the informative to create a vivid world deeply rooted in global heritage and local folklore. This paper investigates the translation strategies of mythical intertextuality in Darwish's poem "Mural." The current paper is a product-oriented descriptive translation study that uses a contrastive analysis of three published translations to analyse the translation strategies. The mythical intertextuality is located in the source text then each example is mapped to its counterparts in the target texts. This study aims to identify the strategies used in translating the Arabic mythical intertextuality into English, find the impediments hindering the translation process, and reach a generalisation about the translators' norms and patterns of translation. The study concludes that regardless of the strategy applied to translate mythical intertextuality, what truly affects the process and product of translation is the translator's cultural accumulative knowledge, i.e. the translator's cultural infrastructure. This knowledge, which enables the translator to perform his vital role as an informed reader, facilitates the task of rendering the mythical intertextuality, which can be studied as a representative of all types of intertextuality, with all its cultural aspects, connections and background. This research discusses the Indonesian nomina majemuk translation from Indonesian into English. The problems of this research cover what are translation strategies and theories employed in the translation of Indonesian nomina majemuk into English in the lelaki harimau novel. The purposes of this research are to identify translation strategies and translation theories employed in the translation of Indonesian nomina majemuk into English in the lelaki harimau novel. The data are obtained from an Indonesian novel entitled lelaki harimau and its English version. This research uses a qualitative method and a random sampling technique. This research is based on Chesterman's translation strategies. The data are collected through documentation and observation by reading a novel and listing nomina majemuk found. The data are analyzed based on translation strategies, theories and linguistics theories. The results of this research show that there are three translation strategies used to translate Indonesian nomina majemuk into English in the lelaki harimau novel, including literal translation (41%), unit shift (24%), and distribution change (35%). Translating religious texts can be a challenging process, particularly when it comes to conveying specialized terms and cultural nuances from the source language to the target language. The process is further complicated by the complexity of sentence structures and the absence of direct counterparts for certain concepts in the target language. The study focuses on the difficulties of translating Quranic verses with regard to the usage of pronouns in the source language, Arabic, and the target language, English. The paper examines the challenges posed by reference switching and ambiguity in pronouns and how these challenges can lead to potential misunderstandings among readers. Through a comprehensive analysis of translation strategies employed by translators to tackle these challenges, the research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the nuances of Quranic translation and the complexities of pronoun usage in the Quranic text. In several contexts, including Vietnam, where professional translator training is lacking, translation courses in language teaching programs fall short of meeting the demand for proficient translators. Particularly, students’ analytical ability and translation process seem to be de-emphasized. Drawing on a functional approach to Translation, this pedagogical study investigates how this approach enhances English major students’ translation process. The effectiveness of the innovation was assessed by conducting a comparative analysis, which involved qualitative examination of 30 students’ written and spoken reflections on the translation tasks and their translation solutions, both before and following the workshops. The results of the study show that the functional approach to translation help enhances students’ translation process in terms of their more frequent mentions of nonlinguistic translation problems, their broadened repertoire of translation strategies, and their reflections on the notions of “accuracy” and/or a “good” translation from a functional perspective. The workshops generally positively impacted their decision-making process, even given their limited linguistic and extralinguistic knowledge. The functional approach to Translation enhances students’ translation process and cultivates their awareness of the real-life practice, leading to improved skills and confidence in Translation. Mo Yan’s Frog has been widely recognized and welcomed by readers since its publication. Apart from the Western readers’ love of Chinese culture, it also owes its popularity to the translator’s skillful handling of the translation. Specifically, this paper examines the translation strategies used in the English translation of Frog. The term hybrid translation is derived from Homi Bhabha’s hybrid theory, which advocates the mixing of different cultures in order to create a hybrid and fuzzy third space. This hybrid translation approach consists of mixing and integrating translation strategies, such as domestication and foreignization, literal translation and free translation, and finally forming a translation that reflects cultural hybridity. To demonstrate a cultural hybrid effect, translators must adopt a variety of approaches to the transformation of the text so that the target readers are able to fully understand its meaning and connotations.

Adverbs are a very heterogeneous class that raise a lot of problems not only for their syntactic and semantic interpretation but also for their translation. The current analysis draws on previous formal work on manner adverbs as a very heterogeneous class that exhibits different interpretations with respect to their context of occurrence and their position in the clause. Our current discussion of manner adverbs aims at investigating the different strategies employed by the Romanian translator in rendering the variety of manner adverbs occurring in the translation of P.G. Wodehouse’s “Right ho, Jeeves.” Because English is an adverbial language while Romanian appears to be partly adverbial, it will be interesting to see how the Romanian translator fares in the endeavour of translating manner adverbs and if the predictions made in formal studies on manner adverbs are borne out by the data provided by translation.

The article is devoted to comprehension of the translational reception of William Shakespeare’s work in the legacy of Vadim Shershenevich (1893—1942) in the context of his author's translation strategies. The novelty of the study is connected with the identification of Shershenevich’s translation strategies as an adherent of “accurate translation”, with the reconstruction of the history of the poet’s translation achievements in the field of Shakespeariana. The authors comprehend Shershenevich’s report on the principles of Shakespeare’s translation, preserved in the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art funds, and analyze the application of these principles (equilinearity, equirhythm, preservation of rhyme and figurative structure) in the little-known translation of the chronicle “King John” and in the translation of the play “Cymbeline”. The question is raised about Shershenevich’s two main translation strategies in relation to Shakespeare: accurate translation (in the texts under study) and free adaptation of texts for the stage, corresponding to the avant-garde understanding of theater as an art that develops outside of direct dependence on literature (when he works with Shakespeare as a librettist, in particular, participating in the creation of the comic opera Gemini based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night). The relevance of the study is related to the need to rethink the scope and significance of Shakespeare's reception in the culture of the Silver Age.

This study purposed to find the right translation strategy to overcome the problem of contextual addressing terms by analysing the translation strategy used in the Bumi Manusia novel by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, translated into This Earth of Mankind by Max Lane. The descriptive approach is used in this study to examine the translation strategy used in translating addressing terms enriched with social and cultural contexts. There are 990 addressing terms with 29 different names. According to data, six translation strategies are used, namely: (1) translation with more neutral/less expressive words is 51.3 percent of 508 data, (2) translation using loan words or loan with explanatory sentences is 35.9 percent of 355 data, (3) translation with cultural substitution is 7.2 percent of 71 data, (4) translation by omission is 5.4 percent from 53 data, (5) using more general words (superordinate) is 0.4 percent of 4 data, and (6) translations with paraphrase using an unrelated word is 0.2 percent of 2 data. Using the loan words or loan words with explanatory sentences can be qualified as one of the right strategies in overcoming the problem of the contextual meaning of the addressing terms in this novel.

Video game localization is the process of adjusting a current video game to make it available, usable, and culturally appropriate to the target audience. This study aims to investigate the strategies that translators use in localizing PUBG and Free Fire video games into Arabic. The data were extracted from interfaces and in-game captions of the two video games. Due to space constraints, a representative subset of the collected data was then selected and analysed according to the translation strategies proposed by Díaz-Cintas, and Remael (2014). The analysis showed that the localizers have more often used transposition and literal translation strategies. They also tried to adapt the text to suit the target-language culture as much as possible. The findings of this study will be helpful to translators, localizers, and trainers. By adopting the most relevant translation strategies outlined in this article, game localizers will hopefully be better equipped with the mechanisms of video game localization. The current piece of work calls for investing more research efforts towards exploring and targeting a broader array of video game genres in Arabic.

This study investigated how culture-specific items in Chinese-English food menus were translated. The Chinese menu corpus was examined using a descriptive case study method for qualitative analysis and a corpus-based method for relevant data extraction and quantitative analysis. The study aimed to identify the categories of culture-specific items (CSIs) in the corpus and also examine whether, and if so, how CSI categories condition the choice of translation procedures and its influence exerted at the macro macro-level on the image of China, projected as a tourist destination. The results indicated that CSIs categories existent in the corpus include the linguistics, historical, and social categories. These categories were also a conditioning factor modulating the selection and use of a particular translation procedure. The linguistic CSI category influenced the employment of description procedures; retention was largely used for the social category, whereas retention and description procedures were utilized for the historical category. Employing Lawrence Venuti's domestication and foreignization strategies and the neutralization strategy of some scholars (e.g. Josep Marco) as a conceptual framework, the results also revealed a strong preference for the use of neutralization strategy in translating CSIs where the strangeness of the source text is demystified, their connotative meanings explicitly rendered, thereby projecting China as a friendly, welcoming, and accommodating destination for tourists. The quantitative methodology employed to analyze the translation of CSIs in the menu text is a crucial contribution that counterbalances the predominant qualitative methods employed in the field. Cross-linguistic features of light verb constructions (LVCs) profile a major facet of the typological difference between Chinese and English. By adopting a theory-driven, context-based interpreting task, this study explores the effectiveness and variability of translation strategies in dealing with 12 target LVCs extracted from a Chinese--English Consecutive Interpreting test to capture effective translation strategies fit for Chinese English-as-foreign-language (EFL) learners (N = 66). Appropriate rates and entropy values denoting variability of strategy selection are calculated by using 12 LVC segments and nine strategies, respectively. A correlation test is also carried out for vocabulary knowledge and the appropriate rates of LVCs to assess the efficacy of learners' vocabulary knowledge in interpreting performance. Results show the general preferences for strategy selection among Chinese EFL learners as well as typical structural patterns in LVC translation. The degree of lightness of the light verbs exerts a reverse effect on the appropriate rates and consistency of strategy selection, and the positive correlation between vocabulary knowledge and LVCs' appropriate rates suggests the need to incorporate the constructional teaching into the EFL learning curriculum. This study intends to analyze Damaschin Bojincă's historical writing about the emblematic ruler Michael the Brave, published in the Romanian periodical Bibliotecă românească (Romanian library) in 1830. Illustrative of the ideological principles promoted by the Transylvanian School, to which Damaschin Bojincã belonged, the writing is in fact a translation, the source text being Johann Christian von Engel's Geschichte der Moldau und Walachey (1804). Yet, this translation can be understood only in the context of the ideology of the Transylvanian School. Even though translation activities did not abide by any scientific rigors in premodern Romanian literature, Bojincă made use of certain strategies, in order to convey his nationalist credo, which was symptomatic of the period around the turn of the 19th century. Thus, starting from the historical and cultural context of the Transylvanian School, the article will present some of the translation strategies used by Bojincã in his historical writing, as a means of national propaganda. The steady growth of tourism is increasing the demand for tourism translation. Cultural words (CWs) translation is challenging since they are absent from target cultures. This systematic review examines studies on CWs translation in tourism texts to comprehend the literature and explore future research tendencies. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, researchers did a comprehensive literature review. Twenty-one articles met the inclusion criteria after the protocol-required data selection and screening. The findings reveal that scholars are increasingly concerned with CWs translation in tourism texts. Moreover, all the included articles used varied theories. Most of them focused on applying various taxonomies of translation strategies to compensate for the losses of cultural connotations in cultural words' rendition. Besides, other researchers focused on CWs translation from different perspectives, such as translation quality assessment, Eco-translatology, meaning equivalence, cultural manipulation, and relevance theory. This study highlighted the translation of Indonesian to English expansion. There are some of the problems in question: what principles, strategies, and relevant theories are used by the translator in translating Indonesian to English expansion and also the type of expansion that occurs. The research used a mixed-type technique, namely qualitative and quantitative. Through all 25 data analyzed, the researchers concluded that: a) based on the analysis, it is found that there are principles of translation by Allan Duff employed. There are 14 data that used the principles of translation: meaning, 4 data used the principles of translation: style and clarity, 2 data used the principles of translation: Source language influence and 5 data used the principles of translation: idiom. b) based on the analysis, it is found that there are several strategies employed. They are syntactic strategies (10 data) which consist of Unit shift (8 data), Clause structure change (1 data), and transposition (1 data); semantic strategies (11 data), which consist of Distribution change (3 data), Antonym (1 data), Synonymy (1 data), abstraction change (2 data) and trope change (4 data); the last is pragmatic strategies (4 data), which consist of Interpersonal change (1 data), explicitness change (2 data) and emphasis change (1 data). Based on the analysis, it is found that there are types of expansion from Nida and Tabber (1982) that occur. The process of translation is not as easy as it seems. In fact, it is much harder. The translation result must fulfill certain criteria namely accuracy, acceptability, and readability. During the process of translation, the translator surely encounters some difficulties or barrier. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the students’ strategies in overcoming the translation difficulties. The method of the research was a descriptive case-study. The subject of the research was 10 students of English Education Department at Universitas Majalengka. The data was collected from the translation test, questionnaire, and interview. Most of the data analysis of this research was conveyed in non-statistical analysis. However, the researcher provided data to see the percentage and frequencies to support the research. The results showed that the students encounter difficulties in 1) translating words that are not in dictionary; 2) translating ambiguous words; 3) translating long sentences; 4) translating phrases; 5) translating complex sentence; and 6) translating idioms. In translating idioms, 50% used literal translation, 30% used discursive creation, and 20% used established equivalence. In translating ambiguous words, 90% used modulation, and 10 % used literal translation. In translating phrases, 40% used reduction, 20% used discursive creation, 10% used established equivalence, and 30% used generalization.

In this article subtitling and the resulting from it translation strategies are analysed. The article puts the main emphasis, on the one hand, on the technical restrictions, the resulting from it need to shorten, con- dense and simplify the text, and the translation strategies used for this purpose according to Gottlieb, Chesterman, Tomaszkiewicz and Belczyk, e.g.: deletion, condensation, omission, numbers, decimation, paraphrasing, simple syntaxis, etc. On the other hand, it deals with the translation of culture-related components, based on such strategies: omission, literal translation, borrowing, adaptations, substitu- tion of Culture-Specifics, generalization, translation of black humour, explications/explanations. The German-Polish subtitling of the movie „Er ist wieder da“ (2015) served as a case study, from which many examples illustrate the discussed phenomena. The aim of this paper is to examine the translated linguistic-cultural-comic triad, taking into account the strategies used in translation. Based on the multidimensional (at syntactic-semantic-pragmatic level) analysis of the original and its translation, these results point to possible that the translator faced seemingly insurmountable hurdles. In order to translate equivalently, he had to make use of many different word combinations. Thanks to numerous examples of text condensation strategies, it can be stated that many movie scenes can be translated intersemiotically. Many omissions that were made could be compensated without problems by means of image and/or sound, so that it is unnoticeable for the viewer at semantic-trans-cultural level.

This paper aims to reconstruct the way in which the Romanian written culture from the second half of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth gradually built the image of the Russian Enlightened monarchy with three of its most famous representatives: Peter II, Catherine II and Alexander I. By means of translating from Italian and German historiography, these texts served a double goal: on the one hand they satisfied the reader’s need for knowledge and understanding of the contemporary events, and on the other they contributed to a political discourse that viewed Russia and the Russian Orthodox monarchy as potential saviours of the Romanian principalities from the oppression of the Muslim Ottoman Empire. By means of translation analysis, we have attempted to illustrate how the Western image of an Eastern monarch, guided by a blend of Western philosophy and Eastern Orthodox tradition, was transferred in the Romanian culture as a scientific base for political and cultural decisions.

В данной статье рассматриваются стратегии перевода языковой игры в рамках политического дискурса наматериале немецкоязычных текстов СМИ, анализируются различные переводческие решения. В качестве материалаисследования использовались заголовки из новостных текстов на политическую тематику, размещенные в Интернет-изданиях немецкоязычных газет и журналов и их переводы на русский язык. На основе проанализированногоматериала было выявлено, что перевод языковой игры не всегда возможен в силу различных причин. Невозможностьпередать языковую иргу средствами языка перевода нередко приводит к снижению эстетического воздействияпереведенного текста. Перевод языковой игры является сложной задачей для переводчика, решение которой требует отнего глубоких лингвистических знаний и нестандартного мышления.

В статье уточнены понятия научный текст и стратегия перевода научных текстов, представлены стратегииперевода научных текстов на материале переведенных статей журналах, входящих в базу цитирования Scopus.Анализируется двухступенчатая модель научного перевода, обусловленная двумя факторами: восприятием текста –свертывание текста оригинала, и созданием текста перевода - развертывание смысла выявленных и осмысленныхнаучных понятий.

An annotated translation is a translation with notes or annotations of the equivalent selected in the target language with the aim of being accountable for the equivalent. This study examines a tale entitled “la Sorcière de la Rue Mouffetard” written by Pierre Gripari. This study employs qualitative methods and a comparative model to discuss translation problems and their solutions using translation strategies from Molina and Albir (2002). The use of interjection, idioms, and words containing culture is the problem in this fairy tale translation of language and cultural elements. Various dictionaries and websites are used both in the process of translating and the annotation process. The results of this study are expected to become one of the Indonesian-language fairy tales that will enrich children’s literature, especially from France.

When faced with culturally anchored terms, subtitlers can render the translation closer to the foreign language and culture, adopting a strategy of foreignization, or closer to the domestic audience, thus adhering to a strategy of domestication (Venuti, 1995). The goal of this systematic review, based on the PRISMA framework (Moher et al., 2009) is to identify, via structured and extensive selection of studies, assess and summarize the academic literature on domestication and foreignization in interlingual subtitling. The thematic analysis of comprehensive contemporary literature aimed at understanding concepts, discussions, findings and research gaps, to inform future relevant and constructive contributions to the current body of research. The analysis of 33 studies published in English and Portuguese between 2004 and 2020 examined five themes: overview of studies, orientation towards foreignization or domestication, translation strategies continuums, linguistic features covered in the studies, and reception of subtitles. Limitations of previous studies and under-researched matters are then presented to support future research. Further empirical studies on the reception of interlingual subtitling are recommended to advance the understanding of subtitles as a product, using dedicated methods and technologies to develop objective metrics about their perception and processing by viewers and move the audiovisual translation field forward.

One of the challenges that translators of literacy and non-literary texts face is rendering and finding equivalents for figures of speech. In this regard, translating simile and compound adjectives are of great importance. Most of the challenges in translating such figures of speech are due to cognitive and cultural differences between the source and target languages. By paying attention to the differences, translators can overcome the challenges. Using a descriptive-analytical method, this study dealt with the nature, function, and criteria of categorizing similes and compound adjectives in Bahrampour’s translations of Sermons and Letters of Nahj al-Balagha. Applying Pierini’s (2007) model, the study then explored the strategies used for dealing with problems in translating the figures of speech. Pierini uses domestication strategy for translation in such cases. Considering the strategy, he introduces two strategies for compound adjectives and six strategies for translating similes. The results show that when translating all compound adjectives and similes, the used translation methods that are based on domestication of language and culture, are appropriate and applicable; since in this translation, Bahrampour has used a literary method and the correspondence shows the closeness between source and target languages.

Simile is much less investigated than metaphor, although it occurs as frequently in discourse. This paper aims to provide an account of similes in English, which serves as the starting point for an exploration of the problems they can pose when translated into Italian. First, it deals with the nature and function of similes, the criteria for their classification, and their interpretation. Then, it examines a range of similes illustrating the translation problems they can pose, and discusses the strategies to adopt for each problem stated. The data discussed are taken from English texts belonging to various textual genres, and their translations into Italian.

The current study investigates the strategies of translating cultural references applied in the Kurdish subtitles of the American movie entitled ‘Scent of a Woman’. This research also determines the parameters that affect the application of translation strategies in the Kurdish subtitles on the movie. In doing so, the English audio scripts (i.e., source text) and their Kurdish subtitles (i.e., target text), were compared and interpreted in accordance with Pedersen’s taxonomy of subtitling strategies and parameters (2011). The results revealed that all the translation strategies proposed by Pedersen (2011) were used in the Kurdish subtitles. However, due to the consideration of the ‘monocultural parameter’, the subtitler most frequently used the strategy of retention in the Kurdish subtitles. On the other hand, he used the strategies of omission and official equivalence least frequently. It is also shown that the parameters affecting the application of subtitling strategies were monocultural, transcultural, infracultural, and polyesemiotics. In sum, the cultural differences between SL and TL made the subtitler adopt justifiable strategies depending on availability of specific parameters.
