101. A New Technique for Surface Acoustic Wave Speed Measurement in Laterally Inhomogeneous Materials

Abstract

The technique of measuring surface acoustic wave (SAW) speed of a solid by an acoustic microscope has been known to the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) community for last twenty five years. A number of research papers [1–17] have been published on this subject. The technique is based on generating the V(z) curve, also known as the acoustic material signature of the solid under inspection. The V(z) curve is generated by moving the microscope lens vertically, normal to the plane of the solid and recording the reflected signal. The voltage produced by the reflected signal oscillates between a series of maxima and minima as the lens-specimen distance is changed. This is because the phases of the two rays, the central ray and the nonspecularly reflected critical ray which are received by the receiver, vary as the lens-specimen distance is altered. The constructive interference between the two rays gives maxima or peaks and the destructive interference creates minima or dips in the V(z) curve. The spacing between two successive minima is related to the SAW speed of the specimen and thus the SAW speed is measured. This technique works very well for a laterally homogeneous specimen. However, for a laterally nonhomogeneous material predicting the material property variation by the V(z) technique becomes very cumbersome. Because in this case V(z) curves are to be experimentally generated at different locations of the specimen to predict the nonmonotonic SAW speed variation in the specimen.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to use a liquid water female body phantom to investigate the feasibility of using helical Tomotherapy's exit detector data sinograms (EDDS) for quality assurance of Tomotherapy treatments.Methods: Delivery Verification software (DV‐Tool), described by Kapatoes et al., uses EDDS and daily mega‐voltage‐CT images for delivery sinogramreconstruction and subsequent dose computations. These dose distributions should reflect variations in patient's anatomy and machine delivery. Phantom was used to verify the robustness of the DV‐Tool for machine consistency over 2months, and sensitivity to weight loss and setup errors. Weight loss simulations were done by removing layers of bolus from the phantom's pelvis. Setup errors were simulated by performing known table shifts before the treatment. Two treatment plans simulating a breast and gynecological treatment plans were used for these evaluations. Reconstructed doses and dose volume histograms (DVHs) were analyzed in comparison to the plan DVHs by scaling the reconstructed PTV mean dose (PTV‐MD) to match the plan. PTV‐MD differences before and after machine output adjustments were evaluated. Results: Machine consistency check of gynecological plan revealed that the deviations were greater (±5%) during the week prior to target replacement. After output adjustments, the deviations for breast and gynecological plans agreed within ±1.0% and ±2.5%, respectively. Weight loss on the gynecological plan showed a correlation (R2=0.998) between lost thickness and increasing PTV‐MD by approximately 5%/cm. Setup errors on the breast plan showed broadening shoulder of the PTV DVH for shifts greater than 5mm. Volume at 20Gy for the right lung increased by 6% for 10mm shifts in both x and z directions. Conclusions: The DV‐Tool is sensitive to simulated weight loss, setup errors, and machine output. Exit detector data and the DV‐Tool have great potential for monitoring patient's delivered treatments. However, clinical workflow needs to be established.

Abstract

Current therapy for the breast cancer patients is aimed at treating the cancer mainly at the primary site with limited ability to block metastasis. We have recently shown that fish oil (FO) diet significantly prevents MDA MB-231 breast cancer cell (MDA) metastasis to bone in a mouse model. Colony stimulating factor-1 (CSF-1) is one of major osteoclastogenic cytokines responsible for osteolytic metastasis of breast cancer. Quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed significant inhibition of CSF-1 mRNA expression in fish oil fed mice xenograft tumor samples and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), two ω-3 fatty acids in fish oil, inhibited CSF-1 mRNA and protein expression in MDA cells. A positive correlation was observed between expression of CSF-1 and the bone metastatic potential of different breast cancer cells. We have demonstrated recently upregulation in PTEN expression by FO diet as a mechanism of breast tumor growth arrest in mice. Over expression of PTEN inhibited migration of MDA cells. PTEN is a negative regulator of PI 3 kinase/Akt signaling. We investigated the mechanism of CSF-1 expression by breast cancer cells. Cotransfection of the CSF-1 promoter-driven luciferase plasmid (CSF-1-Luc) in MDA with PTEN or dominant negative (DN) PI 3 kinase or DN Akt, inhibited the transcription of CSF-1, indicating requirement of PI 3 kinase/Akt signaling. Several oncogenic microRNAs including miR-21 have been shown to induce metastasis of cancer cells. Fish oil fed mice tumors and DHA- and EPA-treated MDA cells significantly blocked miR-21 expression in MDA. PTEN mRNA 3'UTR contains miR-21 recognition element. Over expression of miR-21 inhibited PTEN 3'UTR-Luc reporter activity but it was increased by downregulation of miR-21, indicating functional targeting of PTEN mRNA by miR-21 in MDA. Similarly, expression of either miR-21 or miR-21 Sponge (plasmid-coded anti-miR-21 sequences) in MDA significantly suppressed or increased PTEN protein, respectively. Moreover, DHA-increased PTEN expression is reversed by over expression of miR-21 indicating a critical regulation of PTEN by miR-21. miR-21 over expression increased migration of MDA cells and partially reversed DHA- or EPA-mediated inhibition of migration. Since PTEN regulates expression of CSF-1, we examined the involvement of miR-21. Expression of miR-21 enhanced while miR-21 Sponge reduced expression of CSF-1 mRNA and its transcription. Furthermore, DHA-inhibited CSF-1 mRNA expression is reversed by over expression of miR-21. Together these results uncover a novel function of fish oil, which beheads miR-21 signaling to dampen expression of CSF-1 thus preventing osteoclastogenesis and osteolytic lesions in breast cancer. Department of Chemistry, University College of Science, 92 Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Calcutta-700 009 Manuscript received 30 August 1993 Combined pH-metric and spectrophotometric studies on the complex formation of M2+ ions (M =Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) with sulphapyridine, sulphadiazine and sulphathiazole (LH) provided evidence of formation of binary complexes ML+ and ML2, together with ternary hydroxo complexes of the types, ML(OH), ML2(OH)- and ML2(OH)-. Formation constants of the complexes were determined at 30 ± 0.1° in 50%(v/v) aqueous ethanol medium at a constant ionic strength, 1= 0.1 M (NaNO3). Stability of the complexes were found to be in the order : CoII< NiII< CuII> ZnIIfor all the three ligands, and in the order: sulphapyridine > sulphathiazole > sulphadiazine with CoII, NiIIand ZnII, whereasin the order : sulphadiazine > sulphapyridine > sulphathiazole with CuII. Stability of thecomplexes were correlated with the modes of bonding of the ligands.

114. Optical and structural properties of lead iodide thin films prepared by vacuum evaporation method.

Abstract

Thermally processed lead iodide PbI2 thin films were prepared by the vacuum evaporation method in a constant ambient. Measured thickness of the film was verified analytically from the optical transmittance data in a wavelength range between 300 and 1600 nm. From the Tauc relation for the nondirect inter band transition, the optical band gap of the film was found to be 2.58 eV for film thickness 300 nm. Xray diffraction analysis confirmed that PbI2films are polycrystalline, having hexagonal structure. The low fluctuation in Urbach energy indicates that the grain size is quite small. Abstract

This research deals with the production of electronic textiles (e-textiles) demonstrators. Initially, the research dealt with the creation of 4Ö5 microphone array on a large area conformal textile substrate. Once the interface electronics were connected to the 4Ö5 microphone array, this system became an effective acoustic array. Here, a new acoustic eight microphone array design has been designed, fabricated and tested. Changes were made to improve microphone array performance, and to optimize the associated software for data capture and analysis. This new design was based on UC-Berkeley mote microcomputer technology. The mote-based system addresses the issue of scaling acoustic arrays, to allow for distributing microphones over large-areas, and to allow performance comparisons to be made with the original 4Ö5 microphone acoustic array. Abstract

The major contending scenarios capable of explaining various aspects of the Seyfert phenomenon in AGNs are (i) the Super-massive Black-Hole model and (ii) the Starburst model. Detailed optical emission-line and radio images of Seyfert nuclei, and their mutual correlations, provide important clues in evaluating the claims of each. Using the EVN at λ 18 cm, we have mapped four Seyfert galaxies, Mkn 1, 3, 231 and 463 at a resolution of ∼ 25 mas. The maps, and comparisons with images at other wavelengths, will be presented elsewhere (Ghosh et al. 1993, in preparation). Here, we present parameters derived from elliptical-Gaussian fits to all discernible components (Table 1).

Abstract

Summary Haematological studies of the snakes in the genera Dispholidus, Naja and Psammophylax were carried out. In Dispholidus typus, the majority of the red blood cells were oval. All cells contained central nuclei with moderately open chromatin and many were pynotic. Cells of different sizes and stages of development were present. Naja haje had red blood cells of various shapes ranging from circular to oval. Elongated poikilocytes (helmet cells) were present and these constituted 3–4% of total cells. Structure of the nuclei was similar to that found in D. typus. Cells were larger in larger specimens of the same species. Psammophylax tritaeniatus red blood cells were nearly all round. In all species, cell sizes, surface areas and shapes varied within individuals and between species. In D. typus and Naja haje, leucocytes showed degenerative changes and neutrophils showed pale basophilic cytoplasm. Some lymphocytes were seen. Haemoglobin and haematocrit results confirm earlier work on reptiles. Resume Des etudes hematologiques de serpents des genres Dispholidus, Naja et Psammophylax ont ete entreprises. Chez Dispholidus typus, la majorite des globules rouges sont ovales. Toutes les cellules contiennent un noyau central avec chromatine et beaucoup sont pynotiques. On constate des cellules de differentes tailles et differents stades de developpement. Naja haje a des globules rouges de formes variees allant du cercle a l'ovale. On observe que des poikilocytes forment 3 a 4% du total des cellules. La structure des noyaux est similaire a celle de D. typus. Les cellules sont plus grandes chez les plus grands specimens de la meme espece. Les globules rouges de Psammophylax tritaeniatus sont presque tous ronds. Chez toutes les especes, la taille des cellules, leur surface et leur forme varient selon les individus et selon les especes. Chez D. typus et Naja haje, les leucocytes presentent une evolution degenerescente et les nucleophiles un pâle cytoplasme basophilique. Certains lymphocytes ont ete observes. Les resultats d'analyse sur l'hemoglobine et l'hematocrite confirment les travaux anterieurs sur les reptiles.

Accepting the hypothesis that psi (3.1) is a bound state of the charmed quark (p') and its antiquark (p'), the psi (3.1) p'p' coupling constant is evaluated by applying the technique of dimensional regularization. The value is found to be different from that obtained in the VMD model. It is then used to compute the cross section for p+n to psi (3.1)+X. The result is compared with experiment and discussed.

125. Blood group genotypes in Zambia and linkage to sickle cell disease

Abstract

A number of normal Zambian individuals, Sickle cell heterozygotes and homozygotes, of different tribes living in Livingstone, were studied for Rh and MNSs genotypes. The purpose of this study was to establish the frequency distribution of these antigens in the normal Zambian. An attempt was also made to find the degree of linkage between Rh, MNSs with Sickle cell genes. cDe genes were found to bear a linear relationship amongst normal Zambians, heterozygotes and homozygotes, thus making the cDe antigen very prevalent in Zambia. MN antigens are however unevenly distributed. There is also a positive straight line relationship in the absence of S and s antigens amongst normal individuals, heterogygotes and homozygotes. Su, an allele of Ss system commonly found in Africa is also prevalent in Zambia. The linkage between cDe, MN, Ss genes and Sickle cell genes seems to be insignificant (P = 0.1 or greater than 0.1). The finding of a high percentage of cDe genes in normal Zambian individuals should help the clinicians in solving medico-legal disputes in the study of various genetic and anthropological problems.

Abstract

Jets and outflows are ubiquitous phenomena in astrophysics, found in our Galaxy in diverse environments, from the formation of stars to late-type stellar objects. We present observations conducted with the 305 m Arecibo Telescope of the preplanetary nebula CRL 618 (Westbrook Nebula)—a well-studied late-type star that has developed bipolar jets. The observations resulted in the first detection of 4765 MHz OH in a late-type stellar object. The line was narrow (FWHM ∼ 0.6 km s−1) and ∼40 km s−1 blueshifted with respect to the systemic velocity, which suggests association with the expanding jets/bullets in CRL 618. We also report nondetection at Arecibo of any other OH transition between 1 and 9 GHz. The nondetections were obtained during the observations in 2008, when the 4765 MHz OH line was first discovered, and also in 2015 when the 4765 MHz OH line was not detected. Our data indicate that the 4765 MHz OH line was a variable maser. Modeling of the 4765 MHz OH detection and nondetection of the other transitions is consistent with the physical conditions expected in CRL 618. The 4765 MHz OH maser could originate from dissociation of H2O by shocks after sublimation of icy objects in this dying carbon-rich stellar system, although other alternatives such as OH in an oxygen-rich circumstellar region associated with a binary companion are also possible. Abstract

Highly efficient ultraviolet (UV) photodetection has been realized in nanocolumnar radio frequency (RF) sputtered ZnO thin films as compared to sol-gel nanocrystalline films and aqueous chemically grown nanowire (NW) arrays. The photo-to-dark current ratio in the columnar films reaches a value as high as 106 which is at least 2-4 orders of magnitude higher than that of the sol-gel films and NWs. Such a high value is attributed to a dense compact columnar morphology of the sputtered films with higher surface-related trap states. Within 2 s of UV illumination, five orders of change in the photocurrent have occurred in the sputtered film in contrast to three orders of change in the NWs. The photocurrent decay under steady UV illumination in the sputtered films is only 23%, compared to 50% in the NWs. However, the fall in current under the UV 'off' condition in the sputtered film takes a longer time than in the NWs. These changes are correlated to the deep defect levels of the nanocolumnar films. Abstract

Implicit sequence learning involves learning about dependencies in sequences of events without intent to learn or awareness of what has been learned. Sequence learning is related to striatal dopamine levels, striatal activation, and integrity of white matter connections. People with Parkinson’s disease (PD) have degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons, leading to dopamine deficiency and therefore striatal deficits, and they have difficulties with sequencing, including complex language comprehension and postural stability. Most research on implicit sequence learning in PD has used motor-based tasks. However, because PD presents with motor deficits, it is difficult to assess whether learning itself is impaired in these tasks. The present study used an implicit sequence learning task with a reduced motor component, the Triplets Learning Task (TLT). People with PD and age- and education-matched healthy older adults completed three sessions (each consisting of 10 blocks of 50 trials) of the TLT. Results revealed that the PD group was able to learn the sequence, however, when learning was examined using a Half Blocks analysis (Nemeth et al., 2013), which compared learning in the 1st 25/50 trials of all blocks to that in the 2nd 25/50 trials, the PD group showed significantly less learning than Controls in the 2nd Half Blocks, but not in the 1st. Nemeth et al. hypothesized that the 1st Half Blocks involve recall and reactivation of the sequence learned, thus reflecting hippocampal-dependent learning, while the 2nd Half Blocks involve proceduralized behavior of learned sequences, reflecting striatal-based learning. The present results suggest that the PD group had intact hippocampal-dependent implicit sequence learning, but impaired striatal-dependent learning. Thus, sequencing deficits in PD are likely due to striatal impairments, but other brain systems, such as the hippocampus, may be able to partially compensate for striatal decline to improve performance.

Abstract

The dust-Hi correlation is used to characterize the emission properties of dust in the diffuse interstellar medium (ISM) from far infrared wavelengths to microwave frequencies. The field of this investigation encompasses the part of the southern sky best suited to study the cosmic infrared and microwave backgrounds. We cross-correlate sky maps from Planck, the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), and the diffuse infrared background experiment (DIRBE), at 17 frequencies from 23 to 3000 GHz, with the Parkes survey of the 21 cm line emission of neutral atomic hydrogen, over a contiguous area of 7500 deg2 centred on the southern Galactic pole. We present a general methodology to study the dust-H i correlation over the sky, including simulations to quantify uncertainties. Our analysis yields four specific results. (1) We map the temperature, submillimetre emissivity, and opacity of the dust per H-atom. The dust temperature is observed to be anti-correlated with the dust emissivity and opacity. We interpret this result as evidence of dust evolution within the diffuse ISM. The mean dust opacity is measured to be (7.1 ± 0.6) × 10-27 cm2 H-1 × (v/353 GHz) 1.53 ± 0.03for 100 ≤ v ≤ 353 GHz. This is a reference value to estimate hydrogen column densities from dust emission at submillimetre and millimetre wavelengths. (2) We map the spectral index βmm of dust emission at millimetre wavelengths (defined here as v ≤ 353GHz), and find it to be remarkably constant at βmm = 1.51 ± 0.13. We compare it with the far infrared spectral index βFIR derived from greybody fits at higher frequencies, and find a systematic difference, βmm -βFIR = -0.15, which suggests that the dust spectral energy distribution (SED) flattens at v ≤ 353 GHz. (3) We present spectral fits of the microwave emission correlated with Hi from 23 to 353 GHz, which separate dust and anomalous microwave emission (AME). We show that the flattening of the dust SED can be accounted for with an additional component with a blackbody spectrum. This additional component, which accounts for (26 ± 6)% of the dust emission at 100GHz, could represent magnetic dipole emission. Alternatively, it could account for an increasing contribution of carbon dust, or a flattening of the emissivity of amorphous silicates, at millimetre wavelengths. These interpretations make different predictions for the dust polarization SED. (4) We analyse the residuals of the dust-Hi correlation. We identify a Galactic contribution to these residuals, which we model with variations of the dust emissivity on angular scales smaller than that of our correlation analysis. Abstract

We use Planck HFI data combined with ancillary radio data to study the emissivity index of the interstellar dust emission in the frequency range 100.353 GHz, or 3.0.8 mm, in the Galactic plane. We analyse the region l = 20°44° and |b| ≤ 4° where the free-free emission can be estimated from radio recombination line data. We fit the spectra at each sky pixel with a modified blackbody model and two opacity spectral indices, βmm and βFIR, below and above 353 GHz, respectively. We find that βmm is smaller than βFIR, and we detect a correlation between this low frequency power-law index and the dust optical depth at 353 GHz, 353. The opacity spectral index βmm increases from about 1.54 in the more diffuse regions of the Galactic disk, |b| = 3°4° and τ353 ∼ 5 × 10-5, to about 1.66 in the densest regions with an optical depth of more than one order of magnitude higher. We associate this correlation with an evolution of the dust emissivity related to the fraction of molecular gas along the line of sight. This translates into βmm ∼ 1.54 for a medium that is mostly atomic and βmm ∼ 1.66 when the medium is dominated by molecular gas. We find that both the two-level system model and magnetic dipole emission by ferromagnetic particles can explain the results. Abstract

Anomalous microwave emission (AME) is believed to be due to electric dipole radiation from small spinning dust grains. The aim of this paper is a statistical study of the basic properties of AME regions and the environment in which they emit. We used WMAP and Planck maps, combined with ancillary radio and IR data, to construct a sample of 98 candidate AME sources, assembling SEDs for each source using aperture photometry on 1°-smoothed maps from 0.408≠GHz up to 3000 GHz. Each spectrum is fitted with a simple model of free-free, synchrotron (where necessary), cosmic microwave background (CMB), thermal dust, and spinning dust components. We find that 42 of the 98 sources have significant (>5σ) excess emission at frequencies between 20 and 60 GHz. An analysis of the potential contribution of optically thick free-free emission from ultra-compact H ii regions, using IR colour criteria, reduces the significant AME sample to 27 regions. The spectrum of the AME is consistent with model spectra of spinning dust. Peak frequencies are in the range 20-35 GHz except for the California nebula (NGC 1499), which appears to have a high spinning dust peak frequency of (50 ± 17) GHz. The AME regions tend to be more spatially extended than regions with little or no AME. The AME intensity is strongly correlated with the sub-millimetre/IR flux densities and comparable to previous AME detections in the literature. AME emissivity, defined as the ratio of AME to dust optical depth, varies by an order of magnitude for the AME regions. The AME regions tend to be associated with cooler dust in the range 14-20 K and an average emissivity index, βd, of +1.8, while the non-AME regions are typically warmer, at 20-27 K. In agreement with previous studies, the AME emissivity appears to decrease with increasing column density. This supports the idea of AME originating from small grains that are known to be depleted in dense regions, probably due to coagulation onto larger grains. We also find a correlation between the AME emissivity (and to a lesser degree the spinning dust peak frequency) and the intensity of the interstellar radiation field, G0. Modelling of this trend suggests that both radiative and collisional excitation are important for the spinning dust emission. The most significant AME regions tend to have relatively less ionized gas (free-free emission), although this could be a selection effect. The infrared excess, a measure of the heating of dust associated with H ii regions, is typically >4 for AME sources, indicating that the dust is not primarily heated by hot OB stars. The AME regions are associated with known dark nebulae and have higher 12 μm/25 μm ratios. Abstract

A novel dinuclear nickel(II) complex, [Ni2L(NO3)(H2O)3]NO3 (where L is a ‘side-off’ compartmental ligand obtained by [1 + 2] condensation of 1,3-diaminopropane and 2,6-diformyl-4-tert-butylphenol) has been synthesized and characterized by routine physicochemical techniques as well as by X-ray single crystal structure analysis. Structure determination reveals that the two nickel ions, separated by 3.0824(9) A, occupy the N2O2 and O4 compartments of the Schiff base ligand. The immediate coordination environment of each nickel ion is octahedral and the species adopts an umbrella bowed conformation. The catalytic activity of the complex for the oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol to the corresponding o-quinone in methanol solvent has been studied by UV–vis spectroscopic technique.

Abstract

Two pseudohalides thiocyanate and dicyanamide have been employed to synthesize complexes of MnII, CoII, NiII, CuII, and ZnII in the presence of a hemilabile ligand 2-benzoylpyridine (Phpyk). With thiocyanate all the aforesaid metal ions (except for CoII, of which suitable single crystals for X-ray analysis were not obtained) produce mononuclear complexes having general composition of [MII(NCS)2(Phpyk)2]. The structure determination reveals that Mn and Zn complexes (1, 4) are isomorphous and isostructural (crystallizing in space group C2/c), while Ni and Cu complexes (2, 3) crystallize in space groups P1 and P21/n, respectively. Interestingly, no complex has been obtained with a configuration having the N of one Phpyk trans to the O of the other chelating ligand and among the four complexes only in complex 3 the two thiocyanato ligands are in trans-configuration. The hormetic effects of antibiotics on Scenedesmus sp. werecompared with nitrogen limitationstrategies. We observed that 100 and 1000 nM supplementation with antibiotics could stimulate bothα-linolenic acid (ALA) and α-tocopherol productivities. Although nitrogen limitation had the best overall biomass and chlorophyll a productivity (∼ 43.83 % and 109.07 % ↑, respectively), tetracycline (1000 nM, T 1000 ) was the best antibiotic for biomass (∼ 12.08 % ↑) while erythromycin (100 nM, E 100 ) was the best for chlorophyll a (∼ 52.19 % ↑). The antibiotics also triggered accumulation of monounsaturated fatty acids, like C16:1 and C18:1, which the nitrogen stress strategies failed to achieve. Rifampicin (100 nM, R 100 ) and E 100 , with ∼3.92-4.14-fold increase in α-tocopherol and ∼4.41-4.81-fold increases in ALA productivities, reiterate the role of moderate stresses in stimulating high-value metabolites in microalgae. Our results provide an alternative medium engineering strategy for stimulating algal metabolites without compromising on the biomass. Abstract

Smart luminescent materials have drawn a significant attention owing to their unique optical properties and versatility in sensor applications. These materials, encompassing a broad spectrum of organic, inorganic, and hybrid systems including quantum dots, organic dyes, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), offer tunable emission characteristics that can be engineered at the molecular or nanoscale level to respond to specific stimuli, such as temperature, pH, and chemical presence. Recent advancements have been driven by the integration of nanotechnology, which enhances the sensitivity and selectivity of luminescent materials in sensor platforms. The development of photoluminescent and electrochemiluminescent sensors, for instance, has enabled real-time detection and quantification of target analytes with high accuracy. Additionally, the incorporation of these materials into portable, user-friendly devices, such as smartphone-based sensors, broadens their applicability and accessibility. Despite their potential, challenges remain in optimizing the stability, efficiency, and biocompatibility of these materials under different conditions. Abstract

Visible-light-mediated reactions have recently emerged as a powerful strategy for the synthesis of diverse organic molecules under mild reaction conditions. Usually, the reactions are performed at room temperature and thus sensitive functional groups remain unaffected. Thus, this protocol has received intense interest from academia as well as industries. The heterocycles, in general, are of much interest because of their biological activities and application in therapeutics. The Oxygen- and Sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds have recently attracted attention as these compounds showed promising activities as anti-cancer drugs, antibiotics, antifungal and anti-inflammatory agents among other applications. The synthesis of this class of compounds by efficient and greener routes has become an important target. This review highlights the various procedures for the synthesis of these compounds and their derivatives under visible light-induced reactions. Abstract

Influenza, COVID-19, tetanus, pertussis and hepatitis B pose increased risk for pregnant women and infants and could be mitigated by maternal immunization. In India Tetanus-diphtheria (Td) and COVID-19 vaccines are recommended during pregnancy, while influenza and tetanus-acellular pertussis-diphtheria (Tdap) vaccines are not. We conducted a multicenter study from November 2021 to June 2022 among pregnant women ( n  = 172) attending antenatal clinics in three public hospitals in West Bengal, to understand the factors that influence women's decisions to get vaccinated during pregnancy. Questions assessed vaccination coverage, knowledge, intention and willingness to pay for influenza vaccine, and factors influencing decisions to get Td, influenza, and COVID-19 vaccines. 152/172 (88.4%) women were vaccinated with Td, 159/172 (93%) with COVID-19, 1/172 (0.6%) with influenza, and none with Tdap. 10/168 (6%) had received hepatitis B vaccine (HBV). Community health workers advice was crucial for Td uptake and, the belief of protection from COVID for COVID-19 vaccines. Most women were unaware about Tdap (96%), influenza (75%), and influenza severity during pregnancy and infancy (85%). None were advised for influenza vaccination by healthcare providers (HCP), albeit, 93% expressed willingness to take, and pay INR 100-300 (95% CI: ≤100 to 300-500) [$ 1.3-4.0 (95% CI: ≤1.3, 4-6.7)] for it. Vaccination on flexible dates and time, HCP's recommendation, proximity to vaccination center, and husband's support were most important for their vaccination decisions. Women were generally vaccine acceptors and had high uptake of vaccines included in the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). Inclusion of influenza, Tdap, and HBV into UIP may improve maternal vaccine uptake.

Refractory seizures are common in pediatric neurology; consideration of whether seizures are acutely symptomatic of an underlying disease process is critical. In this case, a previously healthy 7-year-old patient presented with intractable focal seizures in the setting of a viral prodrome and headache. 150. Microplastics bioaccumulation in fish: Its potential toxic effects on hematology, immune response, neurotoxicity, oxidative stress, growth, and reproductive dysfunction.

Abstract

After being exposed, microplastics mostly bioaccumulated in guts and gills of fish, then, through circulation, spread and bioaccumulated in other tissues. Circulatory system of fish is impacted by the microplastic bioaccumulation in their tissues, influencing a number of hematological indices that are connected with immunity, osmotic pressure, blood clotting, molecular transport and fat metabolism. Variables like size, dose, duration, food consumption and species, all affect the bioaccumulation and toxicity of the microplastic, rather than the exposure routes. Microplastics lead to an imbalance in the generation of ROS and antioxidant defense of fish, which resulting in oxidative injury. Moreover, microplastics affect immunological responses through physico-chemical damage, hence produce neurotoxicity and modifies the activity of the acetylcholine esterase. Exposure to microplastics caused damage to the hepatic and gut tissue, affect intestinal barrier function and dysbiosis of microbial composition, altered the metabolism of host, affecting the activities of the digestive enzymes, eventually affecting the growth performance of fish. Microplastics exposure target the HPG axis and interfere with the process of steroidogenesis, apoptosis of the gonadal tissue, ultimately causing reproductive dysfunction.
