BACKGROUND: Laboratory studies have indicated that a cholesterol metabolite and selective estrogen receptor modulator, 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC), may be important in breast cancer etiology and explain associations between obesity and postmenopausal breast cancer risk. Epidemiologic evidence for 27HC in breast cancer risk is limited, particularly in multiethnic populations. METHODS: In a nested case-control study of 1470 breast cancer cases and 1470 matched controls within the Multiethnic Cohort Study, we examined associations of pre-diagnostic circulating 27HC with breast cancer risk among African American, Japanese American, Native Hawaiian, Latino, and non-Latino White postmenopausal females. We used multivariable logistic regression adjusted for age, education, parity, body mass index, and smoking status. Stratified analyses were conducted across racial and ethnic groups, hormone receptor (HR) status, and use of lipid-lowering drugs. We assessed interactions of 27HC with steroid hormones. RESULTS: 27HC levels were inversely related to breast cancer risk (odds ratio [OR] 0.80; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.58, 1.12), but the association was not statistically significant in the full model. Directions of associations differed by racial and ethnic group. Results suggested an inverse association with HR-negative breast cancer (OR 0.46; 95% CI 0.20, 1.06). 27HC interacted with testosterone, but not estrone, on risk of breast cancer; 27HC was only inversely associated with risk among those with the highest levels of testosterone (OR 0.46; 95% CI 0.24, 0.86). CONCLUSION: This is the first US study to examine circulating 27HC and breast cancer risk and reports a weak inverse association that varies across racial and ethnic groups and testosterone level.

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of the issue, discussion, establishment, and application (IDEA) learning model in embedding mathematical concepts understanding. It is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental approach. This research was conducted at Malang Islamic University with students majoring Mathematics education study program and in their first academic year as the subjects. Subjects were divided into two group, experimental and control and measured their result using posttest only control group design. There are six instruments consisting six items used to measure mathematical concepts understanding. The results confirmed that H[subscript 0] is rejected, while Ha is accepted proved by t count (3.132)>t[subscript table] (1.674). It means there is a significant difference between the of both groups (experimental and control). In addition, the results indicated that the IDEA learning models is effective to assist students in understanding mathematical concepts showed by the higher score of experimental groups than control group. Three factors are involved in order to implement the IDEA learning model effectively; namely: individual problem-solving opportunities, active student involvement, and guidance and assistance (from lecturer) on the IDEA learning model. This research is only limited to preservice teacher, further research is required in order to implement this model for mathematics learning at junior and senior high schools' level.

During the pandemic, the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a tremendous and massive impact on the entire cross-level education system in Indonesia and the global realm. This study aimed to look at the reflections of gamification activities that are used as a formative assessment tool in learning environments based on academic accomplishment and teachers' engagement. The existing resource presented in this study in the form of 'Quizizz' can effectively transform formal education patterns into online education patterns assisted by virtual classrooms and other online learning media for the evaluation process. The method used in this research is phenomenology to investigate the perspectives and experiences of Indonesian secondary school teachers about remote Quizizz evaluation during the COVID19 pandemic to determine the teacher's perspectives and experiences for media utilisation strategies in the online evaluation. The results of this study indicate that in learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, training is needed for teachers to respond to and overcome problems related to changes in the online evaluation process in the education system. Identifying teachers' perspectives and experiences for an online-based evaluation process during the pandemic will contribute positively to achieving maximum student-learning goals and outcomes.

Problem-solving skills are advantageous when resolving complicated and multidimensional challenges. Problem-solving skills can be developed through active learning models that engage students in the learning process. One active learning model is RICOSRE. The main focus of RICOSRE is problem-solving activities in (1) reading; (2) identifying the problem; (3) constructing the solution; (4) solving the problem; (5) reviewing the solution; and (6) extending the solution. The purpose of this study was to assess the ongoing development of problem-solving skills of students with upper, middle, and lower academic abilities at the Department of Biology Education in a state university in Indonesia. This study employed a concurrent embedded mixed-methods design. The repeated-measures ANOVA was used to test the hypothesis for the quantitative data, and NVivo 12 was utilized to analyze the qualitative data. The participants' problem-solving skills were determined by their responses to items on RICOSRE-integrated worksheets. The students' responses were graded using a validated and reliable problem-solving rubric. The findings indicated that the students' problem-solving skills improved consistently in the upper, middle, and lower academic groups that were taught by implementing RICOSRE.

Translanguaging enables students to communicate in multiple languages in an English-dominant classroom. It has received considerable attention from scholars in content and language integrated learning (CLIL). Its implementation in primary schools in European countries has been adopted in Asian countries, including Indonesia. This study employed a narrative inquiry investigating a teacher who taught first graders both content matter and English during the COVID-19 forced-remote learning. Furthermore, data were gathered using semi-structured interviews to guide the participant in narrating CLIL science teaching experiences. Virtual observations were carried out eight times to obtain evidence of translanguaging practiced. Due to forced-remote learning, the results indicated that the teacher had to find the most convenient ways to instruct the young students without adding to their burden. Furthermore, it was reported that scaffolding by translanguaging was planned systematically by valuing the students' L1 and alternating it with English as the target language. The findings also discussed the practical implications of this study to maintain young learners' (YLs) engagement through translanguaging strategies.

The most essential tool in any education system and for any learning process is the educational curriculum. Curriculum orientation is used as a reference to the direction of studies in learning outcomes. In the presence of western-based models in the development of educational techniques, students in Islamic universities are found to be aloof from their religious and cultural norms as they graduate from educational institutions. This paper aims to describe the transformation of Islamic Education in national education programs and curricula. For the purpose of this study, we have taken Islamic pedagogy and research methodology as well as cultural reinvigoration as the independent variable. Whereas the development of national education system along the Islamic model is the dependent variable. State organized curriculum is deemed as the mediator, which affects the later and is affected by the presence of former. Data was collected via questionnaires from a total of 550 respondents where the respondents chosen were experts in curriculum development and Islamic education. The data collected was analyzed using the SPSS and Smart PLS. The results illustrate that with cultural reinvigoration and development of Islamic pedagogy, not only the development of the curriculum will be facilitated in Indonesia, but its implementation will also be expedited.

The context of this research aims to analyse the effects of entrepreneurial creativity (EC) empirically on entrepreneurial intention through structural equation modelling by proposing and testing the model that has been developed previously developed. The goal of this study is to understand some of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention among university students consisting of 1,035 respondents. The research findings by testing EC and entrepreneurial intention (EI) models show that student creativity at the university has a very high level of significance in influencing students' own entrepreneurial intention. Moreover, it is followed by creativity within family and the individuals' creativity. The research findings will later become recommendations and options for campus policy in fostering student EI, especially for university students.

This study is intended to obtain standard instruments of the educative family life. Its construct has been formulated based on the research results of family factors influencing the success of the children at school. The instruments involve children measurement instrument (CMI) and mother measurement instrument (MMI) that apply forced-choice scale inventories. The instrument calibration methods are test of construct validity, content validity--face validity, empirical validity and reliability. Through the calibration of the instruments, the results of the 573 family samples revealed the following results: 1) the construct of 12 family variables described the variations in the educational family life as 38.47% child perception and 41.15% mother perception; 2) 45.85% of the items of structure dimension of CMI are valid; 3) 70.50% of the items of process dimension of CMI are valid; 4) 45.65% of the structural dimension of MMI are valid; 5) 80% of the process dimension of MMI are valid; and 6) both instruments, CMI and MMI, are reliable.

This paper reflects on the work-integrated learning (WIL) program in an undergraduate Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) department in Indonesia. Given the industrial revolution that has transformed the construction industry into Construction 4.0, concrete steps are needed to bridge the needs of industry for professional workers who are aware of Construction 4.0 concepts. This study aims to develop a WIL model adjusting to Construction 4.0 concepts. A case study of the internship experience that has been conducted for four consecutive years was used to develop the model. This observation was reinforced by a questionnaire survey aimed at students, workplace supervisors and lecturers to evaluate the effectiveness of the internship program in achieving the learning outcomes. The results of this analysis coupled with the findings from the integrative literature review were used to develop a Construction 4.0 WIL model.

It has been relatively limited research regarding online learning using socio-cultural perspective within the under-represented EFL context. This study explores male and female visually impaired students' perspectives on adopting to online learning and challenges faced in online learning viewed from a socio-cultural perspective. Qualitative research of in-depth interviews and questionnaires were employed to draw three different visually impaired students 'low vision categorized' from three private universities in Makassar, Indonesia. Thematic content analysis was used to analyze the interview data, while the Likert scale was used for the questionnaire. The result of the study showed that both male and female students can interact effectively with teachers, peers, and learning technologies. In terms of satisfaction, both male and female visually impaired students believe that their teacher's use of multiple digital platforms fits their specific needs. Despite the fact that the presentation of material is less structured and the primary obstacles encountered by visually impaired students are vision limitation, internet network connectivity and the allocation of more time for learning, online learning is perceived to be effective and provides students with a sense of comfort. The study examined in detail the perceptions of male and female visually impaired EFL students, future plans, and the likelihood of fostering socio-cultural perspective in the online learning environment. Since this study did not rely heavily on the digital platforms utilized during online learning, recommendations were given for future researches to investigate the sorts of technologies and their efficacy in adopting this socio-cultural perspective in various EFL settings.

This study evaluated the success or failure of using Virtual Workspace (VW) in a projectbased physics laboratory. This study uses a qualitative approach with 4E evaluation methods: educational effectiveness, ease of use, involvement, and environment. Data were collected through a questionnaire to evaluate the implementation and practical functions of the VW CCCW. In addition, data were also collected using interview techniques to find out how the perceptions of students and instructors or lecturers during project-based physics practicums apply VW CCCW. The sample of this study consisted of 126 respondents consisting of 104 prospective physics teacher students, 12 lecturers of basic physics courses, and ten laboratory instructors representing public and private teacher education universities in Aceh. The evaluation findings show that VW has been successfully implemented and tested. The use of virtual workspaces as a tool in practical work is very effective in training 4C skills. Therefore, as an implication in the 4.0 revolution era, virtual workspaces in practicum can be a new way to work collaboratively with task management, creative action plans, communication and problem solving, critical thinking and completing projects, and practicum performance evaluation and assessment.

Teachers play an active, creative and innovative role in online learning so that student learning outcomes get maximum results. One of the efforts made is to develop animation learning media based on local wisdom in online learning. Animation media chose because students tend to be more interested in exciting things around them. To achieve this, researchers use a research and development approach to produce a product. This research model refers to the ADDIE development model. The model trial subjects were 123 students of elementary school Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya, elementary school Panarung, elementary school Negeri Pahandut. This research produces innovative learning media animation based on local wisdom, including competencies, indicators, materials, displays, button designs, and local potentials of Indonesian Kalimantan. The four elementary schools' effectiveness trials showed that the mean scores were post-test (81.02) and pre-test (54.82). So it can be said that the designed model is effective in improving learning outcomes.

The expansion of digital technology presents both obstacles and opportunities, particularly for young people. Consequently, educational institutions have been developing digital literacy curriculums. Since digital literacy is not yet included in the national curriculum as a compulsory subject, private schools have constructed digital literacy programmes based on local resources. This study investigates how digital literacy practices are carried out in selected private elementary schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, based on ICT learning, an information and media literacy approach, educators' role, and learning points. The data were collected in interviews with: (1) principals, (2) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teachers, (3) librarians and (4) classroom teachers because, according to previous research, they are the main actors of digital literacy in school. The structured interviews use research instruments derived from two earlier studies and are tailored to the study's needs. This study demonstrates that (a) the digital literacy approach is implemented mainly through an ICT learning and media literacy approach while the information literacy approach is undermined; and (b) principals, classroom teachers, and ICT teachers are the three actors who play the most important roles in digital literacy, while librarians play a minor one. The majority of digital literacy training takes place in computer laboratories, while training in classrooms and libraries is less frequent. The study recommends the school blend ICT learning, information literacy, and media literacy pedagogy more comprehensively, with the library serving as the primary locus. In parallel, school principals should encourage school librarians to collaborate with the computer and class teachers to enhance the inclusive digital literacy curriculum.

This study aimed to examine the development of an online learning application in the physics for school course using the ADDIE model. The application is Learning Management System Supported Smartphone (LMS3), which facilitates pre-service physics teachers to enhance digital literacy. The need assessment was analysed based on learning objectives and designed LMS3 using a flow chart and storyboard. LMS3 was developed by professional programmers, filled with content, and validated by experts. It was then implemented and evaluated in the physics for school course. This descriptive study involved media and pedagogical experts and 40 pre-service physics teachers in Tasikmalaya. Data were collected through literature reviews, expert validation, and pre-service physics teacher perception questionnaires obtained using a Likert scale. The expert validation results were processed using the value equation developed by Aiken. The results showed a validation value of 1, meeting the minimum application requirements. Additionally, pre-service physics teachers positively responded to LMS3, which has good display, function, and effect on their learning motivation and digital literacy.

This qualitative study probes into teacher power use and student silence in an EFL classroom in an English department of a private university in Makassar, Indonesia. Anchored by a qualitative analysis and participated by one female teacher and three EFL students, data were garnered through in-depth interviews and observation. It was designed to find out what type of power the teacher used to minimize the effect of students' silence. Using French and Raven's (2008) analytic lens for power use in classrooms, the study's findings suggest that the types of teacher power used in the class are coercive power, expert power, reward power, legitimate power, and referent power. The results of the study showed that the teachers mostly used their reward power as a strategic move to make students interested in alleviating their silence in the classroom. In some conditions, when necessary, a form of coercive power was also employed by the teacher. In addition, student' silence in the class is influenced by limited vocabulary, grammar in speaking, expression, boredom, shame and insecurity when speaking in English.

The purpose of this study was to determine how much influence academic stress had on pre-service teachers' learning motivation. Mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design were the methods used in the study, while the sample used in this study amounted to 155 pre-service teachers obtained using random sampling from the Department of Sports Coaching Education in 2019-2020 from Padang State University. The instruments in this study include a pre-service teacher motivation questionnaire and academic stress observation sheets and semi-open interviews. The data analysis used was descriptive and inferential. The results of academic stress and motivation obtained good results. This is reinforced by the relationship between academic stress and motivation and there is an influence between the two, with a contribution of 53.2%. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that pre-services need to be given more motivation from stakeholders related to sports to reduce pre-service academic stress.

At present time, information technology (IT) is widely used in society. At any level of school, students use them for a variety of reasons to find, share, and discuss specific topics. By using technology, integrating IT into the basic professional learning curriculum course has not been created into a new format of instructional design. The purpose of this study is to find out how students feel about the platform and how they use technology in a basic professional learning curriculum course. It is a quantitative descriptive research that assesses students' perceptions of information technology in relation to specific topics. According to the findings of the study, the majority of students in the age range of 20-21 years stated that the most appropriate platform to be integrated in the basic professional learning curriculum course and learning efficiency was achieved for the majority of them by the age range of the respondents from 17 to 19 years. IT has infiltrated virtually every facet of society, including education. It is envisaged that the findings of this study would be used as a foundation for the development of IT integration in basic professional learning curriculum courses in order to maximize student learning outcomes.
