El sistema desarrollado es capaz de segmentar (marcar de manera precisa) fracturas de cadera, indicando el tipo de fractura que es, a partir de radiografías usando inteligencia artificial. El software tiene dos modos de operación. En el primero la imagen radiográfica es un fichero en el disco duro, que es leído, interpretado y el sistema genera una máscara, es decir, una imagen del mismo tamaño que la imagen original donde se indica la fractura y su tipo. En el segundo modo de operación el sistema lee la pantalla del ordenador del usuario y superpone en ella el contorno de la fractura detectada, indicando su tipo y un número entre cero y uno indicando la certeza del método en la segmentación de la fractura. Extensiones del software para integrarlo en el sistema PACS hospitalario son previsibles pero no están implementadas. Los tipos de fractura que el sistema puede detectar son i) fractura de cuello de fémur no desplazada ii) fractura de cuello de fémur desplazada iii) fractura pertrocantérea no desplazada iv) fractura pertrocantérea desplazada y v) fracturas subtrocantéreas.

El presente trabajo aborda el estudio de una alternativa capaz de acrecentar la penetración de las renovables en el mix de producción de energética. Se realiza un análisis del rol actual que desempeñan las energías verdes en la producción mundial, destacando tanto su potencial como los inconvenientes que presenta su integración. A partir de la recopilación de información referente a proyectos ejecutados en la actualidad en materia de hibridación, se determinan una serie de ventajas asociadas a la combinación de dos tecnologías maduras para lograr una gestión energética beneficiosa. Dicha combinación demuestra ser eficaz para estabilizar la intermitencia que trae aparejado el recurso eólico, generando beneficios para todas las partes intervinientes en el proceso productivo. Partiendo de una serie de beneficios identificados, se constituyen las premisas de diseño para una propuesta de central hidro-eólica, tras un posterior estudio de diferentes alternativas de aprovechamiento. Se dimensiona su equipamiento principal, contemplando ambas tecnologías; y se exhibe su viabilidad técnica. Finalmente, se valorizan las posibilidades económicas de llevarse a cabo. Mediante un análisis financiero, se determinan el monto de la inversión requerida; sus gastos de operación y mantenimiento; y sus beneficios pronosticados.

Pyrazole derivatives are key in crystal engineering and liquid crystal fields and thrive in agriculture, pharmaceutical, or biomedicine industries. Such versatility relies in their supramolecular bond adaptability when forming hydrogen bonds or metal-pyrazole complexes. Interestingly, the precise structure of pyrazole-based macrocycles forming widespread porous structures is still unsolved. We bring insight into such fundamental question by studying the self-assembled structures of a bis-pyrazole derivative sublimed in ultra-high-vacuum conditions (without solvents) onto the three (111) noble metal surfaces. By means of high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy that is validated by gas phase density functional theory calculations, we find a common hexagonal nanoporous network condensed by triple hydrogen bonds at the molecule-metal interface. Such assembly is disrupted and divergent after annealing: (i) on copper, the molecular integrity is compromised leading to structural chaos, (ii) on silver, an incommensurate new oblique structure requiring molecular deprotonation is found and, (iii) on gold, metal-organic complexes are promoted yielding irregular chain structures. Our findings confirm the critical role of these metals on the different pyrazole nanoporous structure formation, discarding their preference for metal incorporation into the connecting nodes whenever there is no solvent involved.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of a gel containing propolis extract, nanovitamin C and nanovitamin E as adjuvant to mechanical debridement in the treatment of peri- implant mucositis (PM). Background: Propolis has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect that may im- prove peri-implant health. Methods: A randomized, double-blind study was performed on patients with at least one implant with PM. Participants received a professional prophylaxis and were in- structed to use either test or a control gel as toothpaste three times/day for 1 month. Clinical and microbiological parameters were evaluated. PM resolution was considered in absence of bleeding on probing (BOP). Data were analysed with Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon signed-rank and chi-square tests. Results: Forty-six patients participated (23 in each group). After treatment, 26.1% of test patients showed complete PM resolution versus 0% in control group (p = .02). Significant reductions were observed in plaque index (p = .03), BOP (p = .04) and prob- ing depths (p = .027) in test compared with control group. The reduction in Tannerella forsythia was statistically greater in test than in control group at 1-month follow-up (p = .02). Porphyromonas gingivalis was statistically reduced in test group from baseline to 1-month follow-up (p = .05). Conclusion: Test gel clinically improved PM and showed certain antimicrobial effect after 1 month in comparison with control group. This retrospective study evaluates the influence of an invasive strategy of urgent coronary revascularization on the in-hospital mortality of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated early by cardiogenic shock. Among 1,981 patients with AMI admitted to our institution from 1994 to 1997, 162 patients (8.2%) developed cardiogenic shock unrelated to mechanical complications. The strategy of management was considered invasive if an urgent coronary angiography was indicated within 24 hours of symptom onset. Every other strategy was considered conservative. Fifty-seven patients who developed the shock late or after a revascularization procedure, or who died on admission, were excluded. The strategy was invasive in 73 patients (70%). Five of them died before angiography could be performed and 65 underwent angioplasty (success rate 72%). By univariate analysis the invasive strategy was associated with a lower mortality than conservative strategy (71% vs 91%, p = 0.03), but this association disappeared after adjustment for baseline characteristics. Older age, nonsmoking, and previous ischemic heart disease were independent predictors of mortality. In conclusion, we have failed to demonstrate that a strategy of urgent coronary revascularization within 24 hours of symptom onset for patients with AMI complicated by cardiogenic shock is independently associated with a lower in-hospital mortality. Background: Primary stability (PS) is a key factor for implant survival rate and depends on implant design or bone quality. The aim of this study was to compare different thread designs implants, evaluating PS with periotest values (PV) and implant stability quotient (ISQ) values through resonance frequency analysis (RFA). Material and methods: A total of 60 implants (Radhex®, Inmet-Garnick S.A., Guadalajara, Spain) were placed in freshly bovine ribs in vitro. Two designs were used: 30 tapered body with single thread design (PHI) and 30 tapered body with double thread design implants (PHIA). Both designs were 4mm wide and 12mm long. Implants were placed according to manufacturer's guidelines. Osstell™ and Periotest® devices were used to evaluate PS by a blinded independent observer. Computed tomographies (CTs) of the ribs were made (BrightSpeed Series CT systems, GE Healthcare, Milwaukee, WI, USA) and bone quality surrounding each implant was evaluated in Hounsfield Units (HU) using Ez3D Plus software (Vatech Co., Korea). Bone quality was classified according to Misch and Kircos in D1, D2, D3 or D4. Results: All implants were mechanically stable. Only implants placed in D3 bone (350-850 HU) were selected for the study: 28 PHI and 26 PHIA. The one way ANOVA showed significant difference (p < 0.005) among two implants designs in ISQ values (61,55 ± 6,67 in PHI and 68,94 ± 5,82 in PHIA). No significant difference (p = 0,171) was shown in PV between two designs (-4,47 ± 1,39 in PHI and -4,77 ± 0,87 in PHIA). Background: Propolis has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and healing properties. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a gel containing 2% of propolis extract, 0.2% of ascorbic acid and 0.2% of tocopherol acetate is effective in preventing surgical complications related to impacted lower third molar extractions. Material and methods: A randomized, double-blind, split-mouth study was performed. Fifteen patients were recruited who needed bilateral impacted lower third molar extractions with a similar surgical difficulty. A test or placebo gel was administered randomly inside post-extraction sockets. Each patient was instructed to apply the gel 3 times/day in the surgical wound for a week. After a month, the contralateral third molar was extracted, and the opposite gel applied. The following parameters were diagnosed/evaluated and then recorded: alveolar osteitis following Blum's criteria, swelling and trismus at day one, two, three and seven post-intervention, wound healing at day 7 post-intervention, and postoperative pain using a visual analog scale, as well as, the number of analgesic pill intake. Results: A total of twenty-six surgical procedures were performed in 13 patients (mean age 20.67±2 years). Alveolar osteitis was reported in 3 patients from the placebo group (23.1%) and none in the test group (0%) (p=0.25). No statistically significant differences were reported in swelling, trismus, wound healing or analgesic pill consumption between two groups. But statistically lower postoperative pain during the 7 days after surgical extractions was found according to visual analog scale in test group compared to the placebo group (p=0.007). No side effects were reported. Conclusions: The application of this gel may be effective in preventing alveolitis and thus reducing postoperative pain after impacted third molar extractions.
