Existing modelling tools, developed to aid the design of efficient molecular wires and to better understand their charge‐transport behaviour and mechanism, have limitations in accuracy and computational cost. Further research is required to develop faster and more precise methods that can yield information on how charge transport properties are impacted by changes in the chemical structure of a molecular wire. In this study, we report a clear semilogarithmic correlation between charge transport efficiency and nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts in multiple series of molecular wires, also accounting for the presence of chemical substituents. The NMR data was used to inform a simple tight‐binding model that accurately captures the experimental single‐molecule conductance values, especially useful in this case as more sophisticated density functional theory calculations fail due to inherent limitations. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal disorder affecting millions of adults worldwide, but a poor understanding of its pathogenesis has limited the effectiveness of therapy. In the current study, we integrated untargeted LC/MS metabolomics and magnetic resonance spectroscopy data to investigate metabolic profile alterations during IDD. Combined with validation via a large-cohort analysis, we found excessive lipid droplet accumulation in the nucleus pulposus cells of advanced-stage IDD samples. We also found abnormal palmitic acid (PA) accumulation in IDD nucleus pulposus cells, and PA exposure resulted in lipid droplet accumulation and cell senescence in an endoplasmic reticulum stress-dependent manner. Complementary transcriptome and proteome profiles enabled us to identify solute carrier transporter (SLC) 43A3 involvement in the regulation of the intracellular PA level. SLC43A3 was expressed at low levels and negatively correlated with intracellular lipid content in IDD nucleus pulposus cells. Overexpression of SLC43A3 significantly alleviated PA-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress, lipid droplet accumulation and cell senescence by inhibiting PA uptake. This work provides novel integration analysis-based insight into the metabolic profile alterations in IDD and further reveals new therapeutic targets for IDD treatment. Three new examples of covalently linked bis(3-pyrrolyl BODIPY)s were prepared as key precursors for the synthesis of rare hexapyrrolic ligands by treating readily available 3-pyrrolyl BODIPY with different ketones under acid-catalyzed conditions. The new bis(3-pyrrolyl BODIPY) complexes were thoroughly characterized using HR-MS, NMR spectroscopy, absorption, fluorescence, electrochemistry, and theoretical methods. The bis(3-pyrrolyl BODIPY) complexes were treated with AlCl3 in CH3OH at reflux for 2 h to demask BF2 units to afford novel hexapyrrolic ligands. The hexapyrrolic ligands without isolating were treated with Zn(CH3COO)2 in CH3CN at room temperature for 2 h followed by repeated recrystallization to afford crystalline bis-Zn(II) complexes. The X-ray crystallographic structure obtained for one of the bis-Zn(II) complexes revealed that it was a double-stranded bimetallic helicate containing two non-superimposable M and P enantiomers in equal amounts, which were nonseparable. Each Zn(II) ion in the bis-Zn helicate complexes was coordinated to four nitrogen atoms of two dipyrrin units from two hexapyrrolic ligands in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The distance between two Zn(II) ions (Zn1–Zn2) in bis-Zn(II) helicate was 8.211 Å, which was longer than the distance between two Cu(II) ions (Cu1–Cu2) in our previously reported bis-Cu(II) helicate complex (7.330 Å). NMR studies indicated that the bis-Zn(II) complexes were highly symmetric. The bis-Zn(II) helicates showed broad absorption bands in the region of 400–700 nm and were nonfluorescent. We report on the synthesis and characterization of a series of (mostly) air‐stable diorganyl bis(pyridylimino) isoindolide (BPI) aluminum complexes and their chemistry upon visible‐light excitation. The redox non‐innocent BPI pincer ligand allows for efficient charge transfer homolytic processes of the title compounds. This makes them a universal platform for the generation of carbon‐centered radicals. The photo‐induced homolytic cleavage of the Al−C bonds was investigated by means of stationary and transient UV/Vis spectroscopy, spin trapping experiments, as well as EPR and NMR spectroscopy. The experimental findings were supported by quantum chemical calculations. Reactivity studies enabled the utilization of the aluminum complexes as reactants in tin‐free Giese‐type reactions and carbonyl alkylations under ambient conditions, which both indicated radical‐polar crossover behavior. A deeper understanding of the physical fundamentals and photochemical process was provided, furnishing in turn a new strategy to control the reactivity of bench‐stable aluminum organometallics. The salt metathesis reaction of dipotassium germacyclopentadienediide with aluminum(III) dichlorides provides either half‐sandwich alumole complexes of germanium(II) or aluminylene germole complexes. Their molecular structure and the delocalized bonding situation, revealed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, are equally described as isomeric aluminagerma[5]pyramidanes with either the germanium or the aluminum atom in the apical position of the pentagonal pyramid. The product formation and the selectivity of the reaction depends on the third substituent of the aluminum dichloride. Aryl‐substituents favor the formation of alumole complexes and Cp*‐substituents that of the isomeric germole complexes. With amino‐substituents at the aluminum atom mixtures of both isomers are formed and the positional exchange of the two heteroatoms is shown by NMR spectroscopy. The accurate determination of the free nicotine content in cigarette smoke is crucial for assessing cigarette quality, studying harm and addiction, and reducing tar levels. Currently, the determination of free nicotine in tobacco products primarily relies on methods such as pH calculation, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME), and traditional solvent extraction. However, these methods have limitations that restrict their widespread application. In this study, the free nicotine in cigarette smoke was directly extracted by using cyclohexane according to the traditional solvent extraction method and detected via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Compared with the traditional two-phase solvent extraction, our experimental method is easy to execute and eliminates the influence of aqueous solutions on the original distribution of nicotine in cigarette smoke particulate matter. Furthermore, the presence of protonated nicotine in tobacco does not affect the determination. Compared with HS-SPME and NMR spectroscopy, our approach, which involves solvent extraction followed by chromatographic separation and instrumental detection, offers simplicity, improved precision, better detection limits, and reduced interference during the instrumental detection stage. The standard addition recoveries in the conducted experiment ranged from 96.2% to 102.5%. The limit of detection was 2.8 μg/cig, and the correlation coefficient R 2 for the quadratic regression of the standard curve exceeded 0.999. The relative standard deviation for parallel samples was between 1.7% and 3.4% (n = 5), fully meeting the requirements for the determination of free nicotine in cigarette smoke. Analysis of cigarette samples from 38 commercially available brands revealed that the content of free nicotine ranged from 0.376 to 0.716 mg/cig, with an average of 0.540 mg/cig, and free nicotine accounted for 39.1%–88.8% of the total nicotine content. Six red-light-emitting Eu(III) complexes having a β-hydroxyketone as ligand and heterocyclic ring containing compounds as ancillary ligands were synthesized to explore their use in displays and optoelectronics. The coordinating behavior of complexes was determined by various techniques such as FTIR (Fourier transform infrared), 1H-NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance), and 13C-NMR that establishes a bonding of ligand and ancillary ligand with the Eu(III) ion. Morphology and purity were investigated through XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and EDS (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) analyses that suggest semicrystalline and pure complex formation. Thermal analysis of complexes by TGA/DTG (thermogravimetric/derivative thermogravimetric) indicates that complexes are stable upto 200 ºC temperature making them suitable for use in display devices. Analysis of the photophysical properties was carried out in both solid and solution states using PL (photoluminescence) studies, color parameters, J–O (Judd–Ofelt) analysis and bandgap. Most emissive transition (5D0 → 7F2) is responsible for the red emission in the complexes. The CIE (Commission International de I'Eclairage) coordinates of complexes also indicate the red emission on UV excitation. The bandgap which was obtained in the range of 2.54–3.02 eV reveals the semiconducting behavior of complexes. Values of J–O parameters and Ω2 in the complexes reflect asymmetric chemical environment around Eu (III) and less covalence and the Ω4 indicates that complexes are less rigid. Bandgap calculated through DFT (density function theory) for complexes is in range of 2.37–2.77 eV, and intensity parameters (J–O), energy transfer rates, and spherical coordinates were determined by LUMPAC software. A phytochemical investigation on the roots of Aconitum austroyunnanense led to the isolation of two previously undescribed diterpenoid alkaloids, austroyunnanines D and E (1 and 2). Their structures were determined by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D (1H–1H COSY, HMQC, NOESY, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, in addition to high-resolution mass spectrometry. The isolated compounds were tested in vitro for cytotoxic activity against three human gastric carcinoma cell lines. Prenylated hydroquinones are the main meroterpenoids found in fungal species of the genus Ganoderma. A new prenylated hydroquinone ganocalidin G (1) was isolated from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma calidophilum. The structure of compound 1 was identified based on 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy as well as MS. Its absolute structure was elucidated from optical rotation calculation. The bioassay for inhibitory activity against AChE showed compound 1 had weak activity with an inhibition rate of 28.7% at a concentration of 100 μM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three organoplatinum(II) complexes bearing natural arylolefin and quinoline derivatives, namely, [4-methoxy-5-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethoxy)-2-(prop-2-en-1-yl) phenyl](quinolin-8-olato)platinum(II), [Pt(C13H15O4)(C9H6NO)], (I), [4-meth-oxy-5-(2-oxo-2-propoxyeth-oxy)-2-(prop-2-en-1-yl)phen-yl](quinoline-2-carboxy-l-ato)platinum(II), [Pt(C15H19O4)(C10H6NO2)], (II), and chlorido-[4-meth-oxy-5-(2-oxo-2-propoxyethoxy)-2-(prop-2-en-1-yl)phenyl](quinoline)-platinum(II), [Pt(C15H19O4)Cl(C9H7N)], (III), were synthesized and structurally characterized by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the cyclo-platinated aryl-olefin coordinates with PtII via the carbon atom of the phenyl ring and the C=Colefinic group. The deprotonated 8-hy-droxy-quinoline (C9H6NO) and quinoline-2-carb-oxy-lic acid (C10H6NO2) coordinate with the PtII atom via the N and O atoms in complexes (I) and (II) while the quinoline (C9H7N) coordinates via the N atom in (III). Moreover, the coordinating N atom in complexes (I)-(III) is in the cis position compared to the C=Colefinic group. Hydraulic fracturing enables effective exploitation of deep coalbed methane. During the hydraulic fracturing process, high salinity flowback fluid is generated, and this poses a significant challenge for water treatment. Therefore, we investigate the effect of hydraulic fracturing on ion migration in deep coal seams and its underlying mechanisms. In this study, nuclear magnetic resonance, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy were utilized to systematically study the diffusion behavior of ions and its correlation with water imbibition. Our results show that imbibition equilibrium was reached before ion diffusion finished. Ion diffusion displays three linear stages followed by a plateau part, and the second segment is the fastest one. The water–coal interactions result in the diffusion of ions into solution, with the most significant increases in Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, Li+, Cu2+, V5+, Hg2+, Pb2+, B3+, Mo6+, Cr3+, Sn4+, Cd2+, Cs+, Sr2+, and Ba2+. The dissolution of calcite, sodium feldspar, and kaolinite are the main contributions for ion migration. In addition, these reactions not only cause the release of ions into the solution but also lead to the formation of secondary pore-fractures and secondary precipitation. Arsenite-induced stress granule (SG) formation can be cleared by the ubiquitin-proteasome system aided by the ATP-dependent unfoldase p97. ZFAND1 participates in this pathway by recruiting p97 to trigger SG clearance. ZFAND1 contains two An1-type zinc finger domains (ZF1 and ZF2), followed by a ubiquitin-like domain (UBL); but their structures are not experimentally determined. To shed light on the structural basis of the ZFAND1–p97 interaction, we determined the atomic structures of the individual domains of ZFAND1 by solution-state NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. We further characterized the interaction between ZFAND1 and p97 by methyl NMR spectroscopy and cryo-EM. 15N spin relaxation dynamics analysis indicated independent domain motions for ZF1, ZF2, and UBL. The crystal structure and NMR structure of UBL showed a conserved β-grasp fold homologous to ubiquitin and other UBLs. Nevertheless, the UBL of ZFAND1 contains an additional N-terminal helix that adopts different conformations in the crystalline and solution states. ZFAND1 uses the C-terminal UBL to bind to p97, evidenced by the pronounced line-broadening of the UBL domain during the p97 titration monitored by methyl NMR spectroscopy. ZFAND1 binding induces pronounced conformational heterogeneity in the N-terminal domain of p97, leading to a partial loss of the cryo-EM density of the N-terminal domain of p97. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between resting and active thalamic neurometabolite levels and inhibitory function in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) patients with poor sleep quality (PSQ was defined as Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index >5 and sleep efficiency ≤85%) compared to OCD patients with good sleep quality (GSQ) and healthy controls (HCs), as well as the relationship of these indices to obsessive compulsive symptoms. Functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy (fMRS) was used to measure resting and active thalamic neurometabolite levels in 72 subjects (20 HCs and 38 OCD patients included in study analysis). Response inhibition function was measured by the Go-Nogo task before and during MRS recording. Subjective sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The symptoms of OCD, anxiety and depression were evaluated using relevant clinical scales. OCD patients exhibited significantly reduced Glx/Cr levels in the resting thalamus. The levels of resting thalamic Glu/Cr and Glx/Cr in OCD patients with PSQ were significantly lowest. OCD patients had significantly lower correct rates on Go tasks, higher error rates on Nogo tasks, and longer error average response times (EART) to the Nogo task. OCD patients with PSQ demonstrated the highest Nogo task error rate and the longest EART to Nogo task. Furthermore, PSQI scores exhibited negative correlations with Glu/Cr and Glx/Cr in the resting thalamus. OCD patients with PSQ demonstrated reduced levels of thalamic resting Glx and more pronounced response inhibitory function impairment. Aberrant neurometabolite levels in critical brain regions, coupled with heightened response inhibition function deficits, may be a neurobiological basis for the PSQ that OCD patients generally exhibit. Background: Stroke is a significant global cause of mortality and morbidity, and post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) affects up to half of stroke patients. Despite the availability of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, there is a lack of definitive effective treatments for PSCI. Non-invasive brain stimulation, particularly intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), has emerged as a promising therapy for the treatment of PSCI. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of iTBS in enhancing cognitive function among patients with PSCI. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and CNKI, to identify relevant randomized controlled trials published before April 2023. The primary outcome measured changes in global cognitive scales, while the secondary outcomes focused on improvements in attention, orientation, visual-spatial perception, and activities of daily living. Results: The meta-analysis encompassed six studies involving 325 patients. The results demonstrated that iTBS led to a significant improvement in global cognitive scales (SMD = 1.12, 95% CI = [0.59 to 1.65], P < 0.0001), attention (SMD = 0.48, 95% CI [0.13 to 0.82], P = 0.007), visual perception (SMD = 0.99, 95% CI [0.13 to 1.86], P = 0.02), and activities of daily living (SMD = 0.82, 95% CI [0.55 to 1.08], P < 0.00001). However, there was no significant effect on orientation (SMD = 0.36, 95% CI [− 0.04 to 0.76], P = 0.07). Subgroup analysis based on the number of sessions was conducted, revealing a significant improvement in global cognition among patients with PSCI across the three categories (10 sessions, 20 sessions, and 30 sessions) with no between-group difference (P = 0.28). None of the included studies reported any serious adverse effects. Conclusion: In conclusion, iTBS appears to be a safe and effective non-invasive treatment that can enhance the cognitive abilities and daily living skills of patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment. However, our conclusion is constrained by the limited number of studies. Further high-quality, large-sample RCTs with extended follow-up periods are necessary to validate these findings. Integrating iTBS with brain imaging techniques, such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy and functional magnetic resonance, could aid in understanding the mechanism of iTBS action. Azobenzene photoswitches are fundamental components in contemporary approaches aimed at light-driven control of intelligent materials. Significant endeavors are directed towards enhancing the light-triggered reactivity of azobenzenes for such applications and obtaining water-soluble molecules able to act as crosslinkers in a hydrogel. Here, we report the rational design and the synthesis of azobenzene/alginate photoresponsive hydrogels endowed with fast reversible sol–gel transition. We started with the synthesis of three cationic azobenzenes (AZOs A, B, and C) and then incorporated them in sodium alginate (SA) to obtain photoresponsive supramolecular hydrogels (SMHGs). The photoresponsive properties of the azobenzenes were investigated by UV–Vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Upon irradiation with 365 nm UV light, the azobenzenes demonstrated efficient trans-to-cis isomerization, with complete isomerization occurring within seconds. The return to the trans form took several hours, with AZO C exhibiting the fastest return, possibly due to higher trans isomer stability. In the photoresponsive SMHGs, the minimum gelation concentration (MGC) of azobenzenes was determined for different compositions, indicating that small amounts of azobenzenes could induce gel formation, particularly in 5 wt% SA. Upon exposure to 365 nm UV light, the SMHGs exhibited reversible gel–sol transitions, underscoring their photoresponsive nature. This research offers valuable insights into the synthesis and photoresponsive properties of cationic, water-soluble azobenzenes, as well as their potential application in the development of photoresponsive hydrogels. Rapidly dissolving polymer thin films, or oral thin films (OTFs), have recently emerged as an improved oral drug delivery vehicle with its ability to bypass liver first pass metabolism, longer shelf-life, and simpler transport and distribution requirements, compared to traditional tablets and liquid formulations. Loratadine (LOR), an antihistamine commonly used to treat allergic rhinitis, undergoes liver first pass metabolism and is a prime candidate for incorporation within an OTF. However, loratadine is a BCS II drug with low aqueous solubility. Herein, the solubility of loratadine was improved by complexation with methyl β-cyclodextrin (MBCD) by co-evaporation of 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2 LOR:MBCD ratios and incorporation into a pullulan-based OTF at 4 wt% by solvent casting at 50 °C for 30 – 35 min. A therapeutically relevant 10 mg LOR dose could be prepared in a 3 cm by 3 cm OTF. The feasibility of complexation was observed with a B s -type phase solubility diagram, and complexation itself was confirmed via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) by disappearance of the LOR melting peak, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) by shifting of the C=O peak, via 1H NMR spectroscopy by downfield shifting and change in peak multiplicity of the LOR aromatic protons, and via diffusion-ordered spectroscopy by a decrease in the diffusion coefficient of LOR:MBCD complex. LOR:MBCD could be incorporated homogeneously throughout an OTF, and LOR:MBCD OTFs exhibited reasonable mechanical strength and endured 12 ± 3 folds before breaking. LOR:MBCD OTFs disintegrated within 38 ± 10 s. The cumulative in vitro release of LOR:MBCD OTFs peaked at 80 % within 3–4 min of dissolution, and LOR in LOR:MBCD OTFs exhibited permeability across a 0.22 μm nitrocellulose membrane, demonstrating its applicability as a rapid drug delivery vehicle. Purpose: This paper aims to prepare a new donor–π–acceptor (D–π–A) and acceptor–π– D–π–A (A–π–D–π–A) phenothiazine (PTZ) in conjugation with vinyl isophorone (PTZ-1 and PTZ-2) were designed and their molecular shape, electrical structures and characteristics have been explored using the density functional theory (DFT). The results satisfactorily explain that the higher conjugative effect resulted in a smaller high occupied molecular orbital–lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gap (Eg). Both compounds show intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) transitions in the ultraviolet (UV)–visible range, with a bathochromic shift and higher absorption oscillator strength, as determined by DFT calculations. Design/methodology/approach: The produced PTZ-1 and PTZ-2 sensors were characterized using various spectroscopic methods, including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H/13CNMR). UV–visible absorbance spectra of the generated D–π–A PTZ-1 and A–π–D–π–A PTZ-2 dyes were explored in different solvents of changeable polarities to illustrate positive solvatochromism correlated to intramolecular charge transfer. Findings: The emission spectra of PTZ-1 and PTZ-2 showed strong solvent-dependent band intensity and wavelength. Stokes shifts were monitored to increase with the increase of the solvent polarity up to 4122 cm−1 for the most polar solvent. Linear energy-solvation relationship was applied to inspect solvent-dependent Stokes shifting. Quantum yield (ф) of PTZ-1 and PTZ-2 was also explored. The maximum UV–visible absorbance wavelengths were detected at 417 and 419 nm, whereas the fluorescence intensity was monitored at 586 and 588 nm. Benchtop NMR spectroscopy is attractive for process monitoring; however, there are still drawbacks that often hamper its use, namely, the comparatively low spectral resolution in 1H NMR, as well as the low signal intensities and problems with the premagnetization of flowing samples in 13C NMR. We show here that all these problems can be overcome by using 1H‐13C polarization transfer methods. Two ternary test mixtures (one with overlapping peaks in the 1H NMR spectrum and one with well‐separated peaks, which was used as a reference) were studied with a 1 T benchtop NMR spectrometer using the polarization transfer sequence PENDANT (polarization enhancement that is nurtured during attached nucleus testing). The mixtures were analyzed quantitatively in stationary as well as in flow experiments by PENDANT enhanced 13C NMR experiments, and the results were compared with those from the gravimetric sample preparation and from standard 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, as a proxy for a process monitoring application, continuous dilution experiments were carried out, and the composition of the mixture was monitored in a flow setup by 13C NMR benchtop spectroscopy with PENDANT. The results demonstrate the high potential of polarization transfer methods for applications in quantitative process analysis with benchtop NMR instruments, in particular with flowing samples. Efficient and robust analytical methods are needed to improve the identification and subsequent regulation of new psychoactive substances (NPS). NMR spectroscopy is a unique method able to determine the structure of small molecules such as NPS even in mixtures. However, high‐field NMR analysis is associated with expensive purchase and maintenance costs. For more than a decade, compact NMR spectrometers have changed this paradigm. It was recently shown that a dedicated analytical workflow combining compact NMR and databases could identify the molecular structure of NPS, in spite of the lower spectral dispersion and sensitivity of compact spectrometers. This approach relies on 1H‐13C HSQC to both recognize NPS and elucidate the structure of unknown substances. Still, its performance is limited by the need to compromise between resolution and experiment time. Here, we show that this strategy can be significantly improved by implementing non‐uniform sampling (NUS) to improve spectral resolution in the 13C dimension of HSQC at no cost in terms of experiment time. Gains in the range of 3 to 4 in resolution are achieved for pure NPS and for a mixture. Finally, 2D HSQC with NUS was applied to improve the identification of NPS with the assistance of databases. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is an established method to determine self‐diffusion coefficients in liquids with high precision. The development of benchtop NMR spectrometers makes the method accessible to a wider community. In most cases, 1H NMR spectroscopy is used to determine self‐diffusion coefficients due to its high sensitivity. However, especially when using benchtop NMR spectrometers for the investigation of complex mixtures, the signals in 1H NMR spectra can overlap, hindering the precise determination of self‐diffusion coefficients. In 13C NMR spectroscopy, the signals of different compounds are generally well resolved. However, the sensitivity of 13C NMR is significantly lower than that of 1H NMR spectroscopy leading to very long measurement times, which makes diffusion coefficient measurements based on 13C NMR practically infeasible with benchtop NMR spectrometers. To circumvent this problem, we have combined two known pulse sequences, one for polarization transfer from 1H to the 13C nuclei (PENDANT) and one for the measurement of diffusion coefficients (PFG). The new method (PENPFG) was used to measure the self‐diffusion coefficients of three pure solvents (acetonitrile, ethanol and 1‐propanol) as well as in all their binary mixtures and the ternary mixture at various compositions. For comparison, also measurements of the same systems were carried out with a standard PFG‐NMR routine on a high‐field NMR instrument. The results are in good agreement and show that PENPFG is a useful tool for the measurement of the absolute value of the self‐diffusion coefficients in complex liquid mixtures with benchtop NMR spectrometers. Understanding environmental change is challenging and requires molecular‐level tools to explain the physicochemical phenomena behind complex processes. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a key tool that provides information on both molecular structures and interactions but is underutilized in environmental research because standard "high‐field" NMR is financially and physically inaccessible for many and can be overwhelming to those outside of disciplines that routinely use NMR. "Low‐field" NMR is an accessible alternative but has reduced sensitivity and increased spectral overlap, which is especially problematic for natural, heterogeneous samples. Therefore, the goal of this study is to investigate and apply innovative experiments that could minimize these challenges and improve low‐field NMR analysis of environmental and biological samples. Spectral simplification (JRES, PSYCHE, singlet‐only, multiple quantum filters), selective detection (GEMSTONE, DREAMTIME), and heteronuclear (reverse and CH3/CH2/CH‐only HSQCs) NMR experiments are tested on samples of increasing complexity (amino acids, spruce resin, and intact water fleas) at‐high field (500 MHz) and at low‐field (80 MHz). A novel experiment called Doubly Selective HSQC is also introduced, wherein 1H signals are selectively detected based on the 1H and 13C chemical shifts of 1H–13C J‐coupled pairs. The most promising approaches identified are the selective techniques (namely for monitoring), and the reverse and CH3‐only HSQCs. Findings ultimately demonstrate that low‐field NMR holds great potential for biological and environmental research. The multitude of NMR experiments available makes NMR tailorable to nearly any research need, and low‐field NMR is therefore anticipated to become a valuable and widely used analytical tool moving forward. Virus‐glycan interactions play a crucial role in the infection process of many viruses. NMR spectroscopy has emerged as a powerful tool for studying these interactions at the molecular level. In this article, we review several published papers and reports that have highlighted the application of NMR spectroscopy in understanding the complex questions of how viruses engage with and bind to receptor glycans. The use of saturation transfer difference (STD) NMR spectroscopy has demonstrated itself as highly advantageous in investigating the interaction between glycans and intact virions or virus‐like particles (VLPs). The broad NMR signal linewidth of virions and VLPs allows efficient saturation without affecting the glycan signals. The advantage of this approach is that the viral capsid environment in protein organization and function is not ignored and therefore provides a more biologically relevant model for exploring the interactions between the virus and the host cell glycans. Orb-weaver spiders produce upwards of seven different types of silk, each with unique material properties. We focus on the adhesive within orb-weaving spider webs, aggregate glue silk. These droplets are composed of three main components: water, glycoproteins, and a wide range of low molecular mass compounds (LMMCs). These LMMCs are known to play a crucial role in maintaining the material properties of the glycoproteins, aid in water absorption from the environment, and increase surface adhesion. Orb-weavers within the Cyrtarachninae subfamily are moth specialists and have evolved glue droplets with novel material properties. This study investigated the biochemical composition and diversity of the LMMCs present in the aggregate glue of eight moth-specialist species and compared them with five generalist orb-weavers using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We hypothesized that the novel drying ability of moth-specialist glue was accompanied by novel LMMCs and lower overall percentages by silk weight of LMMCs. We measured no difference in LMMC weight by the type of prey specialization, but observed novel compositions in the glue of all eight moth-catching species. Further, we quantified the presence of a previously reported but unidentified compound that appears in the glue of all moth specialists. Background: X‐linked dystonia‐parkinsonism (XDP) is a rare movement disorder characterized by profound neurodegeneration in the basal ganglia. The molecular consequences and the bioenergetic state of affected individuals remain largely unexplored. Objectives: To investigate the bioenergetic state in male patients with XDP and female carriers using 31phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging and to correlate these findings with clinical manifestations. Methods: We examined the levels of high‐energy phosphorus‐containing metabolites (HEP) in the basal ganglia and cerebellum of five male patients with XDP, 10 asymptomatic female heterozygous carriers, and 10 SVA‐insertion‐free controls. Results: HEP levels were reduced in the basal ganglia of patients with XDP (PwXDP) compared to controls, but increased in the cerebellum of both male patients and female carriers. Conclusions: Our findings suggest a potential compensatory mechanism in the cerebellum of female carriers regardless of sex. The cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) 2b protein is a suppressor of plant defenses and a pathogenicity determinant. Amongst the 2b protein's host targets is the RNA silencing factor Argonaute 1 (AGO1), which it binds to and inhibits. In Arabidopsis thaliana, if 2b-induced inhibition of AGO1 is too efficient, it induces reinforcement of antiviral silencing by AGO2 and triggers increased resistance against aphids, CMV's insect vectors. These effects would be deleterious to CMV replication and transmission, respectively, but are moderated by the CMV 1a protein, which sequesters sufficient 2b protein molecules into P-bodies to prevent excessive inhibition of AGO1. Mutant 2b protein variants were generated, and red and green fluorescent protein fusions were used to investigate subcellular colocalization with AGO1 and the 1a protein. The effects of mutations on complex formation with the 1a protein and AGO1 were investigated using bimolecular fluorescence complementation and co-immunoprecipitation assays. Although we found that residues 56–60 influenced the 2b protein's interactions with the 1a protein and AGO1, it appears unlikely that any single residue or sequence domain is solely responsible. In silico predictions of intrinsic disorder within the 2b protein secondary structure were supported by circular dichroism (CD) but not by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Intrinsic disorder provides a plausible model to explain the 2b protein's ability to interact with AGO1, the 1a protein, and other factors. There is a need to develop therapies for neonatal encephalopathy (NE) in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) where the burden of disease is greatest and therapeutic hypothermia (HT) is not effective. We aimed to assess the efficacy of melatonin following inflammation‐amplified hypoxia–ischaemia (IA‐HI) in the newborn piglet. The IA‐HI model accounts for the contribution of infection/inflammation in this setting and HT is not cytoprotective. We hypothesised that intravenous melatonin (5% ethanol, at 20 mg/kg over 2 h at 1 h after HI + 10 mg/kg/12 h between 24 and 60 h) is safe and associated with: (i) reduction in magnetic resonance spectroscopy lactate/N‐acetylaspartate (MRS Lac/sNAA); (ii) preservation of phosphorus MRS phosphocreatine/phosphate exchange pool (PCr/Epp); (iii) improved aEEG/EEG recovery and (iv) cytoprotection on immunohistochemistry. Male and female piglets underwent IA‐HI by carotid artery occlusion and reduction in FiO2 to 6% at 4 h into Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide sensitisation (2 μg/kg bolus + 1 μg/kg/h over 12 h). At 1 h after IA‐HI, piglets were randomised to HI‐saline (n = 12) or melatonin (n = 11). There were no differences in insult severity between groups. Target melatonin levels (15–30 mg/L) were achieved within 3 h and blood ethanol levels were <0.25 g/L. At 60 h, compared to HI‐saline, melatonin was associated with a reduction of 0.197 log10 units (95% CrI [−0.366, −0.028], Pr(sup) 98.8%) in basal‐ganglia and thalamic Lac/NAA, and 0.257 (95% CrI [−0.676, 0.164], Pr(sup) 89.3%) in white matter Lac/NAA. PCr/Epp was higher in melatonin versus HI‐saline (Pr(sup) 97.6%). Melatonin was associated with earlier aEEG/EEG recovery from 19 to 24 h (Pr(sup) 95.4%). Compared to HI‐saline, melatonin was associated with increased NeuN+ cell density (Pr(sup) 99.3%) across five of eight regions and reduction in TUNEL‐positive cell death (Pr(sup) 89.7%). This study supports the translation of melatonin to early‐phase clinical trials. Melatonin is protective following IA‐HI where HT is not effective. A fluorescent sensor, 5-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methyleneamino)benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (coded as SB), containing both π-π interacting sites (such as π-electron-rich moieties) and hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) interacting sites (such as highly acidic protons) has been developed via high yield reflux method. It was characterized by the various analytical techniques such as Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H-NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscope (Fe-SEM), elemental mapping, and UV − visible spectroscopy etc. The spectral response of the as-synthesized SB sensor has been investigated for various nitro explosives (NEs). It has been found that the SB sensor selectively and sensitive sense highly toxic 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) via the "turn-off" quenching response. Its limit of detection for TNP was calculated to be 30 ppb. Spectral overlap, detailed mechanistic studies for their mode of action, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveals that photo-induced electron transfer process (PET), fluorescence energy transfers process (FRET), and electrostatic interactions (i.e. H-bonding) are the key factors for the turn-off response of SB towards TNP. Helicobacter pylori and Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV) are Group 1 carcinogens that can enhance gastric cancer progression. Bioactive substances extracted from plants can be effective therapeutic agents in cancer treatment. For example, Withania somnifera extract‐WSE reduces the Gankyrin oncoprotein, which is upregulated in the presence of H. pylori and EBV. The various biochemical and metabolic changes upon 24 hrs post‐infection followed by W. somnifera extract (WSE) treatment on gastric epithelial cells (AGS) can be studied using spectroscopic techniques. In the biomedical sciences, Raman and NMR spectroscopy have been extensively employed to interpret cellular alterations contributing to the onset of infection and the severity of gastric cancer. More specifically, alterations in cellular biochemical homeostasis are linked to the moieties of cholesterol, collagen, choline, carbohydrate, lipids, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. Further, we have found significantly elevated FWHM for carbohydrates, tumor associated protein, collagen, cholesterol, and cholesterol ester in the co‐infection model. We also looked into the potential correlation between these molecules using molecular network analysis and found several related factors that can be modulated through biomolecular levels. These molecules are crucial in several physiological functions, including cell division, cell proliferation, apoptosis, necrosis, cell migration, and lipid transport. Our study paves the pathway to study H. pylori and EBV co‐infection in human gastric epithelial cells and the therapeutic interventions of WSE in this scenario and highlights specific biomolecular alterations, which can be focused for further mechanistic investigations. The fermentation of a soil-derived fungus Acremonium sp. led to the isolation of thirteen ascochlorin congeners through integrated genomic and Global Natural Product Social (GNPS) molecular networking. Among the isolated compounds, we identified two unusual bicyclic types, acremochlorins O (1) and P (2), as well as two linear types, acremochlorin Q (3) and R (4). Compounds 1 and 2 contain an unusual benzopyran moiety and are diastereoisomers of each other, the first reported for the ascochlorins. Additionally, we elucidated the structure of 5, a 4-chloro-5-methylbenzene-1,3-diol with a linear farnesyl side chain, and confirmed the presence of eight known ascochlorin analogs (6–13). The structures were determined by the detailed interpretation of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, MS, and ECD calculations. Compounds 3 and 9 showed potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, with MIC values ranging from 2 to 16 μg/mL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a widespread disease in developed countries, accompanied, among others, by decreased adiponectin serum levels and perturbed lipoprotein metabolism. The associations between the serum levels of adiponectin and lipoproteins have been extensively studied in the past under healthy conditions, yet it remains unexplored whether the observed associations also exist in patients with MS. Therefore, in the present study, we analyzed the serum levels of lipoprotein subclasses using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and examined their associations with the serum levels of adiponectin in patients with MS in comparison with healthy volunteers (HVs). In the HVs, the serum levels of adiponectin were significantly negatively correlated with the serum levels of large buoyant-, very-low-density lipoprotein, and intermediate-density lipoprotein, as well as small dense low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and significantly positively correlated with large buoyant high-density lipoprotein (HDL). In patients with MS, however, adiponectin was only significantly correlated with the serum levels of phospholipids in total HDL and large buoyant LDL. As revealed through logistic regression and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analyses, high adiponectin serum levels were associated with low levels of small dense LDL and high levels of large buoyant HDL in the HVs as well as high levels of large buoyant LDL and total HDL in patients with MS. We conclude that the presence of MS weakens or abolishes the strong associations between adiponectin and the lipoprotein parameters observed in HVs and disturbs the complex interplay between adiponectin and lipoprotein metabolism. In this paper, a new type of Gemini surfactant was synthesized by esterification reaction of phthalic anhydride and fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether to improve the pollution problem and achieve the purpose of reservoir restoration in the near-wellbore area. The target product was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The ability of Gemini surfactant to reduce boundary surface tension, wettability, dispersion, viscosity reduction, oil washing and core damage recovery were studied. Gemini surfactant The critical micelle concentration (cmc) and the corresponding γ-cmc of Gemini surfactant are 26 mg/L and 30.26 μN/m, respectively. Gemini surfactant has a good ability to wash oil, which effectively reduce the interfacial tension of oil and water. At the same time, the benzene ring in the molecular structure of Gemini surfactant dissolve the organic matter in the pollution source, and the core permeability could be restored. This research introduces an eco‐friendly and innovative technique for efficiently producing p‐tolylmethanol derivatives 4(a–k) using electro‐organic synthesis based on the Grignard reaction. By employing electrochemical methods, this approach offers several advantages, including enhanced reaction efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The process involves the electrochemical generation of the Grignard reagent, followed by its reaction with appropriate substrates to yield the desired p‐tolylmethanol derivatives. Our team optimized various reaction parameters like choice of solvent, electrode material, and reaction conditions to achieve high yields and selectivity. The developed electro‐organic method demonstrated outstanding efficiency and presents a fresh and environmentally conscious approach to synthesizing p‐tolylmethanol derivatives from benzaldehyde 1(a–e) and bromobenzene 2(a–h) via the Grignard reaction, yielding excellent results (85–93%). The resulting compounds were comprehensively characterized using melting point, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and CHN analysis to verify their structures. Recently, benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers utilizing permanent magnets have emerged as versatile tools with applications across various fields, including food and pharmaceuticals. Their efficacy is further enhanced when coupled with chemometric methods. This study presents an innovative approach to leveraging a compact benchtop NMR spectrometer coupled with chemometrics for screening honey-based food supplements adulterated with active pharmaceutical ingredients. Initially, fifty samples seized by French customs were analyzed using a 60 MHz benchtop spectrometer. The investigation unveiled the presence of tadalafil in 37 samples, sildenafil in 5 samples, and a combination of flibanserin with tadalafil in 1 sample. After conducting comprehensive qualitative and quantitative characterization of the samples, we propose a chemometric workflow to provide an efficient screening of honey samples using the NMR dataset. This pipeline, utilizing partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models, enables the classification of samples as either adulterated or non-adulterated, as well as the identification of the presence of tadalafil or sildenafil. Additionally, PLS regression models are employed to predict the quantitative content of these adulterants. Tripropyl phosphate (TnPP) is a commonly used organic phosphate flame retardant in the textiles, plastics, and coating industries. Residues are commonly detected in samples from the environment and food. The availability of certified reference materials (CRMs) is essential to ensure the accuracy and traceability of detection results. In this study, a comprehensive characterization of a CRM for TnPP was carried out, and its purity was evaluated using two distinct methodologies: mass balance (MB) and quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (qNMR). In the MB method, the levels of structurally related organic impurities are 1.37 mg/g. The water content was determined to be 3.16 mg/g, while inorganic impurities were found to be 0.87 mg/g, and no residual organic solvents were detected. Benzoic acid and monocrotophos were chosen as internal standards for 1H-qNMR and 31P-qNMR, respectively. The purity of the TnPP CRM was assessed as 994.6 mg/g, 994.1 mg/g, and 993.5 mg/g using MB, 1H-qNMR, and 31P-qNMR techniques, respectively. The verified purity of the TnPP CRM was ultimately determined to be 994.1 mg/g, with an expanded uncertainty of 3.4 mg/g (k = 2), ensuring traceability to the International System of Units (SI). Background Dysregulated energy metabolism is a recently discovered key feature of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Cystic cells depend on glucose and are poorly able to use other energy sources such as ketone bodies. Raising ketone body concentration reduced disease progression in animal models of polycystic kidney diseases. Therefore, we hypothesized that higher endogenous plasma beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentrations are associated with reduced disease progression in patients with ADPKD. Methods We analyzed data from 670 patients with ADPKD participating in the Developing Intervention Strategies to Halt Progression of ADPKD (DIPAK) cohort, a multi-center prospective observational cohort study. BHB was measured at baseline using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Participants were excluded if they had type 2 diabetes, were using disease-modifying drugs (e.g. tolvaptan, somatostatin analogs), were not fasting or had missing BHB levels, leaving 521 participants for the analyses. Linear regression analyses were used to study cross-sectional associations and linear mixed-effect modeling for longitudinal associations. Results Of the participants, 61% were female, with an age of 47.3 ± 11.8 years, a height-adjusted total kidney volume (htTKV) of 834 [interquartile range (IQR) 495–1327] mL/m and an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 63.3 ± 28.9 mL/min/1.73 m2. The median concentration of BHB was 94 (IQR 68–147) µmol/L. Cross-sectionally, BHB was associated neither with eGFR nor with htTKV. Longitudinally, BHB was positively associated with eGFR slope {B = 0.35 mL/min/1.73 m2 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.09 to 0.61], P  = .007}, but not with kidney growth. After adjustment for potential confounders, every doubling in BHB concentration was associated with an improvement in the annual rate of eGFR by 0.33 mL/min/1.73 m2 (95% CI 0.09 to 0.57, P  = .008). Conclusion These observational analyses support the hypothesis that interventions that raise BHB concentration could reduce the rate of kidney function decline in patients with ADPKD. The use of modern spectroscopic methods of analysis, which provide extensive information on the chemical nature of substances, significantly expands our understanding of the molecular composition and properties of soil organic matter (SOM) and its transformation and stabilization processes in various ecosystems and geochemical conditions. The aim of this review is to identify and analyze studies related to the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy techniques to study the molecular composition and transformation of organic matter in virgin and arable soils. This article is mainly based on three research questions: (1) Which NMR spectroscopy techniques are used to study SOM, and what are their disadvantages and advantages? (2) How is the NMR spectroscopy technique used to study the molecular structure of different pools of SOM? (3) How is ESR spectroscopy used in SOM chemistry, and what are its advantages and limitations? Relevant studies published between 1996 and 2024 were searched in four databases: eLIBRARY, MDPI, ScienceDirect and Springer. We excluded non-English-language articles, review articles, non-peer-reviewed articles and other non-article publications, as well as publications that were not available according to the search protocols. Exclusion criteria for articles were studies that used NMR and EPR techniques to study non-SOM and where these techniques were not the primary methods. Our scoping review found that both solid-state and solution-state NMR spectroscopy are commonly used to study the structure of soil organic matter (SOM). Solution-phase NMR is particularly useful for studying soluble SOM components of a low molecular weight, whereas solid-phase NMR offers advantages such as higher 13C atom concentration for stronger signals and faster analysis time. However, solution-phase NMR has limitations including sample insolubility, potential signal aggregation and reduced sensitivity and resolution. Solid-state NMR is better at detecting non-protonated carbon atoms and identifying heterogeneous regions within structures. EPR spectroscopy, on the other hand, offers significant advantages in experimental biochemistry due to its high sensitivity and ability to provide detailed information about substances containing free radicals (FRs), aiding in the assessment of their reactivity and transformations. Understanding the FR structure in biopolymers can help to study the formation and transformation of SOM. The integration of two- and three-dimensional NMR spectroscopy with other analytical methods, such as chromatography, mass spectrometry, etc., provides a more comprehensive approach to deciphering the complex composition of SOM than one-dimensional techniques alone. Glioblastoma (GBM) stands as the most prevalent and lethal malignant brain tumor, characterized by its highly infiltrative nature. This study aimed to identify additional MRI and metabolomic biomarkers of GBM and its impact on healthy tissue using an advanced-stage C6 glioma rat model. Wistar rats underwent a stereotactic injection of C6 cells (GBM group, n = 10) or cell medium (sham group, n = 4). A multiparametric MRI, including anatomical T2W and T1W images, relaxometry maps (T2, T2*, and T1), the magnetization transfer ratio (MTR), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), was performed. Additionally, ex vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) HRMAS spectra were acquired. The MRI analysis revealed significant differences in the T2 maps, T1 maps, MTR, and mean diffusivity parameters between the GBM tumor and the rest of the studied regions, which were the contralateral areas of the GBM rats and both regions of the sham rats (the ipsilateral and contralateral). The ex vivo spectra revealed markers of neuronal loss, apoptosis, and higher glucose uptake by the tumor. Notably, the myo-inositol and phosphocholine levels were elevated in both the tumor and the contralateral regions of the GBM rats compared to the sham rats, suggesting the effects of the tumor on the healthy tissue. The MRI parameters related to inflammation, cellularity, and tissue integrity, along with MRS-detected metabolites, serve as potential biomarkers for the tumor evolution, treatment response, and impact on healthy tissue. Although both localized nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and non-localized nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) generate the same information, i.e., spectra generated by various groups from the structure of metabolites, they are rarely employed in the same study or by the same research group. As our review reveals, these techniques have never been applied in the same study of methylmalonic acidemia (MMA), propionic acidemia (PA) or vitamin B12 deficiency patients. On the other hand, MRS and NMR provide complementary information which is very valuable in the assessment of the severity of disease and efficiency of its treatment. Thus, MRS provides intracellular metabolic information from localized regions of the brain, while NMR provides extracellular metabolic information from biological fluids like urine, blood or cerebrospinal fluid. This paper presents an up-to-date review of the NMR and MRS studies reported to date for methylmalonic and propionic acidemias. The failure characteristics of layered rocks are a vital issue for stability evaluations of underground engineering projects. Layered rocks in a restricted true three-dimensional (3D) stress state behave substantially differently from those under uniaxial or conventional triaxial stress. In this study, true triaxial experiments are carried out to investigate the mechanical and volumetric fracturing behaviors of layered composite sandstones (LCSs) with a change in grain size (Cgrain size) between the layers. Under true triaxial stress, the strengths of LCSs increase considerably as the Cgrain size value increases, which is first reported. The strength enhancements of LCSs with increased σ2 (intermediate principal stress) and Cgrain size values are related to the enhanced grain interlocking effect and the interface effect between the layers. As σ2 increases, the volumetric fracturing behaviors of LCSs change from 3D failure toquasi-3D failure characterized by delamination fracture. The effects of σ2 on fracture are revealed by quantifying the cracking morphologies on the layer interface. Aided by the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique, the correlations of rock porosity with the σ2 and Cgrain size values are established. This paper promotes the understanding of the failure mechanisms of LCSs with a contrast in grain size under true triaxial stress and helps interpret field observations. The current study explains the degradation behavior of Febuxostat API, a non‐purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to treat hyperuricemia. A degradation study was carried out as per the International Council for Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) guidelines, and the study confirms that the Febuxostat is largely stable in thermal, photolytic, oxidative, and basic hydrolytic conditions and labile in acid hydrolysis conditions. There were four different degradation products (DPs) found during acid hydrolysis; of these, DPs 2, 3, and 4 are new and have never been reported before, while DP 1 is known and has already been published. All these DPs were identified using ultra‐high‐performance liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (UHPLC‐MS) analysis, purified by using preparative HPLC, and characterized using high‐resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy techniques. The formed DPs are by the hydrolysis of the cyano functional group of Febuxostat and the esterification of DP‐1 under acidic conditions. All DP's structural characterization was carried out using NMR spectroscopy and HRMS. The present study describes concrete confirmation of DP structures and it explains the stability behavior of the Febuxostat. Smart materials represent an emerging and highly exploited category, particularly in the creation of textiles that can sense and respond to various external stimuli, such as temperature or humidity. This study introduces for the first time the hygroscopic elongation and drying shrinkage properties of stimulus-responsive single-component polyamide (PA) fibers copolymerized with polyetherdiamine and diethylenetriamine (DETA). PA copolymers containing 5-15% polyetherdiamine were comprehensively characterized, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), relative viscosity, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses. Subsequently, these PA copolymers were successfully melt-spun into fibers and knitted into double-layered fabrics. PA fibers containing 15% polyetherdiamine showed significant results, with a moisture-absorbing elongation of 15.6% and a drying shrinkage of 94.9%. The Qmax and moisture regain of the PA fabric are 0.206 W·cm-2 and 4.4%, respectively. These moisture-driven, fiber-based smart textiles exhibit changes in breathability and shape retention at different humidity levels, thereby maintaining a more comfortable microclimate. The stereospecific analysis of chiral molecules is an important issue in many scientific fields. In separation sciences, this is achieved via the formation of transient diastereomeric complexes between a chiral selector and the selectand enantiomers driven by molecular interactions including electrostatic, ion‐dipole, dipole‐dipole, van der Waals or π‐π interactions as well as hydrogen or halogen bonds depending on the nature of selector and selectand. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and molecular modeling methods are currently the most frequently applied techniques to understand the selector‐selectand interactions at a molecular level and to draw conclusions on the chiral separation mechanism. The present short review summarizes some of the recent achievements for the understanding of the chiral recognition of the most important chiral selectors combining separation techniques with molecular modeling and/or spectroscopic techniques dating between 2020 and early 2024. The selectors include polysaccharide derivatives, cyclodextrins, macrocyclic glycopeptides, proteins, donor‐acceptor type selectors, ion‐exchangers, crown ethers, and molecular micelles. The application of chiral ionic liquids and chiral deep eutectic solvents, as well as further selectors, are also briefly addressed. Alkaloids are among the most important and best-known secondary metabolites as sources of new drugs from medicinal plants and marine organisms. A phytochemical investigation of the whole plant of Crinum asiaticum var. sinicum resulted in the isolation of seven alkaloids (1–7), including one new dimeric compound, bis-(-)-8-demethylmaritidine (1). Their structures were elucidated using NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The absolute configuration of new compound 1 was established by circular dichroism spectroscopy. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in vitro. Among them, compound 1 exhibited the most potent AChE inhibition. Moreover, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were carried out for the most active compound to investigate their binding interactions and dynamics behavior of the AChE protein-ligand complex. A phytochemical investigation on the 80% EtOH extract of the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma tsugae resulted into the isolation of two previously undescribed lanostane triterpenoids, 7,11-dioxo-3β-acetyloxy-26,27-dihydroxy-lanosta-8,24-diene (1) and 7,20-dioxo-3β-acetyloxy-11β,15α-dihydroxy-22,23,24,25,26,27-hexanorlanosta-8-ene (2), togeher with one known lanostane triterpenoid ganodermanontriol (3). Structural elucidation of all the compounds were performed by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D (1H-1H COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy. All the triterpenoids were in vitro evaluated for their antibacterial activities against six pathogenic microorganisms. Two oxygenated ergostane-type steroids including one new compound, 3β-hydroxy-5α,6β-methoxyergosta-7,22-dien-15-one (1) along with a known analogue ergosta-6,22-dien-3β,5α,8α-triol (2) were isolated from the crude extracts of the marine sponge-derived fungus Aspergillus sp. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of combined NMR and MS spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 was a marine ergostane-type steroid with two methoxy groups at C-5 and C-6, respectively. These oxygenated ergostane-type steroids were evaluated for their antibacterial activities against human or aquatic pathogens. New dammarane-type triterpenoid saponin, named 22(R)-notoginsenoside Ab1 (1), together with thirteen known dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins (2-14) was isolated from the EtOH extract of black ginseng and their structures were elucidated on the basis of one- and two-dimensional NMR (including 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC, HMBC, ROESY) and calculated ECD. Among them, compounds 1-2 and 6-8 were isolated for the first time from ginseng and black ginseng. Background: Lower socioeconomic position (SEP) associates with adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes and with less favourable metabolic profile in nonpregnant adults. Socioeconomic differences in pregnancy metabolic profile are unknown. We investigated association between a composite measure of SEP and pregnancy metabolic profile in White European (WE) and South Asian (SA) women. Methods: We included 3,905 WE and 4,404 SA pregnant women from a population-based UK cohort. Latent class analysis was applied to nineteen individual, household, and area-based SEP indicators (collected by questionnaires or linkage to residential address) to derive a composite SEP latent variable. Targeted nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to determine 148 metabolic traits from mid-pregnancy serum samples. Associations between SEP and metabolic traits were examined using linear regressions adjusted for gestational age and weighted by latent class probabilities. Results: Five SEP sub-groups were identified and labelled 'Highest SEP' (48% WE and 52% SA), 'High-Medium SEP' (77% and 23%), 'Medium SEP' (56% and 44%) 'Low-Medium SEP' (21% and 79%), and 'Lowest SEP' (52% and 48%). Lower SEP was associated with more adverse levels of 113 metabolic traits, including lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and higher triglycerides and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) traits. For example, mean standardized difference (95%CI) in concentration of small VLDL particles (vs. Highest SEP) was 0.12 standard deviation (SD) units (0.05 to 0.20) for 'Medium SEP' and 0.25SD (0.18 to 0.32) for 'Lowest SEP'. There was statistical evidence of ethnic differences in associations of SEP with 31 traits, primarily characterised by stronger associations in WE women e.g., mean difference in HDL cholesterol in WE and SA women respectively (vs. Highest-SEP) was -0.30SD (-0.41 to -0.20) and -0.16SD (-0.27 to -0.05) for 'Medium SEP', and -0.62SD (-0.72 to -0.52) and -0.29SD (-0.40 to -0.20) for 'Lowest SEP'. Conclusions: We found widespread socioeconomic differences in metabolic traits in pregnant WE and SA women residing in the UK. Further research is needed to understand whether the socioeconomic differences we observe here reflect pre-conception differences or differences in the metabolic pregnancy response. The attempted synthesis of [{Carb}BaPPh2] (1) showed this barium-phosphide and its thf adducts, 1·thf and 1·(thf)2, to be unstable in solution. Our strategy to circumvent the fragility of these compounds involved the use of phosphinoboranes HPPh2·BH3 and HPPh2·B(C6F5)3 instead of HPPh2. This allowed for the synthesis of [{Carb}Ae{PPh2·BH3}] (Ae = Ba, 2; Ca, 3), [{Carb}Ca{(H3B)2PPh2}·(thf)] (4), [{Carb}Ba{PPh2·B(C6F5)3}] (5), [{Carb}Ba{O(B(C6F5)3)CH2CH2CH2CH2PPh2}·thf] (6), [Ba{O(B(C6F5)3)CH2CH2CH2CH2PPh2}2·(thf)1.5] (7) and [Ba{PPh2·B(C6F5)3}2·(thp)2] (8) that were characterised by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (thp = tetrahydropyran). The molecular structures of 4, 6 and 8 were validated by X-ray diffraction crystallography, which revealed the presence of Ba⋯F stabilizing interactions (ca. 9 kcal mol−1) in the fluorine-containing compounds. Compounds 6 and 7 were obtained upon ring-opening of thf by their respective precursors, 5 and the in situ prepared [Ba{PPh2·B(C6F5)3}2]n. By contrast, thp does not undergo ring-opening under the same conditions but affords clean formation of 8. DFT analysis did not highlight any specific weakness of the Ba–P bond in 1·(thf)2. The instability of this compound is instead thought to stem from the high energy of its HOMO, which contains the non-conjugated P lone pair and features significant nucleophilic reactivity. Background: Glucocorticoids and sclerostin act as inhibitors of the Wnt signaling pathway, thereby hindering bone formation. Given the pathway's intricate association with mesenchymal stem cells, the hypothesis suggests that heightened sclerostin levels may be intricately linked to an augmentation in marrow adiposity induced by glucocorticoids. This study endeavored to delve into the nuanced relationship between circulating sclerostin and bone marrow adipose tissue in postmenopausal women grappling with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 103 patients with autoimmune-associated diseases underwent glucocorticoid treatment, boasting an average age of 61.3 years (standard deviation 7.1 years). The investigation encompassed a thorough assessment, incorporating medical history, anthropometric data, biochemical analysis, and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measurements of lumbar and femoral bone mineral density (BMD). Osteoporosis criteria were established at a T-score of -2.5 or lower. Additionally, MR spectroscopy quantified the vertebral marrow fat fraction. Results: BMD at the femoral neck, total hip, and lumbar spine showcased an inverse correlation with marrow fat fraction (r = –0.511 to – 0.647, P < 0.001). Serum sclerostin levels exhibited a positive correlation with BMD at various skeletal sites (r = 0.476 to 0.589, P < 0.001). A noteworthy correlation emerged between circulating sclerostin and marrow fat fraction at the lumbar spine (r = –0.731, 95% CI, –0.810 to –0.627, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis brought to light that vertebral marrow fat fraction significantly contributed to sclerostin serum concentrations (standardized regression coefficient ß = 0.462, P < 0.001). Even after adjusting for age, body mass index, physical activity, renal function, BMD, and the duration and doses of glucocorticoid treatment, serum sclerostin levels maintained a significant correlation with marrow fat fraction.
