The method of calculation of high velocity flow with free boundary is developed by means of the method of characteristics. The basic equations used here are the plane two-dimensional flow equations in the steady state. These equations are transformed into the characteristic form. It is shown that the position of free boundary is determined as the intersection of stream line (λ1-line) and another characteristic line λ2 or λ3. The hydraulic variables along the free boundary are also calculated by using the relation satisfied along λ1- and λ2-line or λ1- and λ3-line. The numerical method shown here is applied for some typical high velocity flows with free boundaries studied by Rouse and Knapp. The calculated results are compared with the previous experimental results in order to verify the method of calculation.

This article reports the accumulation effect of the 3He originating from tritium β decay; 3He created in solid remains in it, while one in liquid diffuses and goes out to the vapor gas. We observed this effect through the neutron detection from muon catalyzed fusion phenomenon (μCF), and gave it qualitative understanding, by which the muon transfer rate from (dμ) and (tμ) to helium was derived.

The Materials and Life Science Facility (MLF) is currently under construction at J‐PARC in Tokai, Japan. The muon section of the facility will house the muon production target and four secondary beamlines used to transport the muons into two experimental halls. One of the beamlines is a large acceptance beamline (the so called Super Omega Muon beamline) which, when completed, will produce the largest intensity pulse muon beam in the world. The expected rate of surface muons for this beamline is 5×108 μ+/s, and a cloud muon rate of 107 μ−/s. The extracted muons will be used for projects involving the production of ultra‐slow muons as well as for muon‐catalyzed fusion. The beamline consists of the normal‐conducting capture solenoids, the superconducting curved transport solenoids, and the Dai Omega‐type axial focusing magnet. Currently, the capture and transport solenoids are under design, with the former in its final stages and the latter being finalized for construction of test coils. The design of the Da...

The presence of the egg size-determining (Esd) gene, which acts as a quantitative gene, on the W chromosome of the silkworm was revealed in a previous study by using two types of triploid females, ZZW and ZWW, (Kawamura, Genetica 76: 195–201). The females with the sex-linked giant egg (Ge) gene deposit eggs as large as those laid by tetraploids. If the Ge mutant is induced by translocation of a fragment of the W carrying Esd onto the Z by chance, the egg size increase in the Ge strain and in tetraploids may be easily explained by the double dose of Esd. The measurement of the length of the Z-W bivalent in oocytes showed that the Z of the Ge strain was much longer than that of the other strains which do not carry the Ge gene. The result suggests that the Ge gene is identical with the Esd on the W chromosome of the silkworm.

- Abstract
We report electrical resistivity, ac magnetic susceptibility, and x-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements of intermediate valence YbNi_{3}Ga_{9} under pressure and magnetic field. We have revealed a characteristic pressure-induced Yb valence crossover within the temperature-pressure phase diagram, and a first-order metamagnetic transition is found below P_{c}∼9 GPa where the system undergoes a pressure-induced antiferromagnetic transition. As a possible origin of the metamagnetic behavior, a critical valence fluctuation emerging near the critical point of the first-order valence transition is discussed on the basis of the temperature-field-pressure phase diagram.

We propose a method for searching a database for similar images guided by the image submitted by users as a query. We make use of texture features of images for the retrieval. To extract texture features, we apply complex multiresolution analysis to a query and database images and generate multiresolution spectral histograms from the coefficients of each subband image. We define an image query metric by inquiring the degree of analogy among the spectral histograms of a query and database images. The proposed method shows the improvement of the accuracy of query results against the conventional multiresolution method. Testing on the databases of 1800/2400 images, we obtain the good matches in 3.4/3.5 seconds

A method to predict impact load caused by the collision of two rods is investigated in this paper. To obtain normal impact load, Hertzian law is applied to express the contact compliance. Frictional force and deformation of two bodies are also taken into account. Some drop impact tests and simulations are performed with several heights and positions to verify the modeling. The results of comparing analysis with experiment show that frictional force and deformation of two rods greatly affect the impact load. It is noted that the finite element method can also predict the impact load and that slipping and sticking between two rods during impact are likely to affect the impact load.

We have fabricated two-terminal mechanical stacked chalcopyrite-based tandem devices to identify the technical issues required to achieve high performance solar cells in the near future. A tandem device with a Ag(In0.2Ga0.8)Se2 (AIGS) top cell and a Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) bottom cell showed an open-circuit-voltage (Voc) of 1.46 V. It was, however, found that the short-circuit current (Jsc) of a two-terminal tandem device was limited by the low Jsc of the filtered bottom cell because of a current mismatch between the top and bottom cells. In order to improve the Jsc of the filtered bottom cell, we have tried two process options, replacing ITO back contacts with high-mobility (Mo-doped In2O3) IMO and the use of low-Ga content CIGS bottom cells. The Jsc of the filtered bottom cells increased significantly using these techniques. As a result, an 8 % total-area (0.5cm2) efficiency 2-terminal mechanical stacked tandem device was achieved using a CIGS (15% Ga) bottom cell with an AIGS top cell fabricated with an IMO back contact.

The soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) have been measured around the ${M}_{4,5}$ edges at $T=20$ and 300 K in order to investigate the electronic states of ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$ ions in ${\mathrm{Eu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$. We found a structure in both the XAS and MCD spectra, which was not observed at $T=20\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$, on the lower energy side of the ${M}_{5}$ edge at room temperature. By using atomic model calculations, the origin of the structure is assumed to be due to the thermal effect for the degree of admixture of the excited states ($J=1$, 2) and ground states $(J=0)$ of ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$. Developing the linear response model to investigate the magnetic moment obtained from the experimental spectra, we conclude that the thermal excited states of ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$ ions is the linear combination between $J=0$, 1, and 2 and the magnetic-field-excited state is the quantum-mechanically mixed state of the ground and excited states.

The evidence for direct charged particles (CP) violation in the decay B0→K+ π- was investigated with 253 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e- collider. 275 x 106 BB pairs were used to observe a B→K±π∓ signal with 2140 ±53 events. Mixing induced CP violation in the B sector was established in b → ccs transitions. The result suggests large interference between tree and penguin diagrams and the existence of final state interactions.

In 1997, an Internet-based static image telepathology system was built at Sapporo National Hospital, Japan. We can exchange high-resolution microscopical images through a file transfer protocol server and discuss cytological findings and diagnosis on an electronic mailing list. We applied the system to primary telecytodiagnosis. From May 1997 to April 1999 we have made diagnoses of 614 daily cases only by looking at the video monitor images transmitted from the cytotechnologist of Wakkanai Municipal Hospital 300 km distant from Sapporo. The concordance between telecytodiagnosis and glass slide diagnosis was 88.6%. Kappa statistics for cervical smears was 0.919 and that for specimens other than uterine cervix was 0.810. The accuracy of telecytodiagnosis was 91.4%, and was not substantially different from that of the conventional mail-based cytology in a previous year. We had five cases with a severely inappropriate diagnosis in telecytology, all of which however were quickly corrected by follow-up histological or cytological specimens. With the use of an electronic mailing list the participants had quick and sufficient discussions. We conclude that telecytology is very useful for primary cytodiagnosis in regional medicine and that it may raise the accuracy of cytodiagnosis in future, if we make consistent efforts to reflect the benefits of telecytology in daily practices. This is the first report of clinical results of telecytology from Japan.

We have developed a location-aware information service system using Bluetooth in an exhibition hall like a gallery and a museum. With this system, the visitors who have their mobile devices such as a cellular phone of PDA can automatically get the information about the exhibits nearby them, based on the estimated visitors' locations. In this paper, we propose several operation support features for smoothly maintaining contents information and the Bluetooth communication area setup. The proposed operation support was evaluated with time to input. With the support, the operator took 183 min for data input and it was one-third of input time without the support system.

We present an x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) study performed at the Sm and Er ${L}_{2,3}$-edges for the ${R}_{2}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{17}$ compounds $(R=\mathrm{rare}$ earth) and their ${R}_{2}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{17}{\mathrm{H}}_{x}$ and ${R}_{2}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{17}{\mathrm{N}}_{x}$ derivatives. The modification of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy by interstitial nitrogen atoms affects the shape of the XMCD signals recorded at both Sm and Er ${L}_{3}$ edge. On the other hand, while the change from planar to uniaxial anisotropy does not modify the Sm ${L}_{2}$-edge XMCD signal, the sign of the Er ${L}_{2}$-edge XMCD spectrum is reversed. These results are discussed in terms of the effect of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy on the XMCD spectra at rare-earth ${L}_{2,3}$ absorption edges of R-Fe intermetallic systems.

We report evidence for the decay $B^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0$. The analysis is based on a data sample of 152 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4s)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ storage ring. We find $25.6^{+ 9.3}_{-8.4}(stat)^{+1.6}_{-1.4}(syst)$ $B^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0$ signal events with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations. We measure the branching fraction to be ($1.7 \pm 0.6 (stat) \pm 0.2 (syst))*10^{-6}$.

We report the first observation of the charmless vector-vector decay process B-/+-->rho(-/+)rho(0). The measurement uses a 78 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider operating at the Y(4S) resonance. We obtain a branching fraction of B (B-/+-->rho(-/+)rho(0))=[31.7+/-7.1(stat)(-6.7)(+3.8)(syst)]x10(-6). An analysis of the rho helicity-angle distributions gives a longitudinal polarization fraction of Gamma(L)/Gamma=0.95+/-0.11(stat)+/-0.02(syst). We also measure the direct-CP-violating asymmetry A(CP)(B-/+-->rho(-/+)rho(0))=0.00+/-0.22(stat)+/-0.03(syst).

We report results on the decay $B^{-} \to D_{CP}K^{-}$ and its charge conjugate using a data sample of 85.4 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric $e^{+}e^{-}$ storage ring. Ratios of branching fractions of Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favored processes are determined to be ${\cal B}(B^- \to D^0 K^-)/{\cal B}(B^- \to D^0 \pi^-)= 0.077 \pm 0.005(stat) \pm 0.006(sys)$, ${\cal B}(B^- \to D_1 K^-)/{\cal B}(B^- \to D_1 \pi^-) = 0.093 \pm 0.018(stat) \pm 0.008(sys)$ and ${\cal B}(B^- \to D_2 K^-)/{\cal B}(B^- \to D_2 \pi^-) = 0.108 \pm 0.019(stat) \pm 0.007(sys)$ where the indices 1 and 2 represent the CP=+1 and CP=$-$1 eigenstates of the $D^{0}-\bar{D^{0}}$ system, respectively. We find the partial-rate charge asymmetries for $B^{-} \to D_{CP}K^{-}$ to be ${\cal{A}}_1 = 0.06 \pm 0.19(stat) \pm 0.04(sys)$ and ${\cal{A}}_2 = -0.19 \pm 0.17(stat) \pm 0.05(sys)$.

We report measurements of the properties of the $D_{sJ}^+(2317)$ and $D_{sJ}^+(2457)$ resonances produced in continuum $e^+ e^-$ annihilation near $\sqrt{s}=10.6 \mathrm{GeV}$. The analysis is based on an $86.9 \mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ data sample collected %at and 60 MeV below the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with with the Belle detector at KEKB. We determine the masses to be $M(D_{sJ}^+(2317)) = 2317.2 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.9(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2$ and $M(D_{sJ}^+(2457))=2456.5 \pm 1.3(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.3(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2$. We observe the radiative decay mode $D_{sJ}^+(2457) \to D_s^+ \gamma$ and the dipion decay mode $D_{sJ}^+(2457) \to D_s^+ \pi^+ \pi^-$, and determine their branching fractions. No corresponding decays are observed for the $D_{sJ}(2317)$ state. These results are consistent with the spin-parity assignments of $0^+$ for the $D_{sJ}(2317)$ and $1^+$ for the $D_{sJ}(2457)$., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures; Added content, updated and paper submitted to PRL

We present an improved measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B 0→π+π- decays based on a 78 fb -1 data sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. We reconstruct one neutral B meson as a B0→π+π - CP eigenstate and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from inclusive properties of its decay products. We apply an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the time intervals between the two B meson decay points. The fit yields the CP-violating asymmetry amplitudes A ππ= +0.77 ±0.27(stat) ±0.08(syst) and S ππ=-1.23 ±0.41(stat) -0.07 +0.08(syst), where the statistical uncertainties are determined from the Monte Carlo pseudoexperiments. We obtain confidence intervals for CP-violating asymmetry parameters Aππ and Sππ based on a frequentist approach. We rule out the CP-conserving case, A ππ=Sππ=0, at the 99.93% confidence level. We discuss how these results constrain the value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) angle φ2. © 2003 The American Physical Society.

- Abstract
We report the first observation of the charmless vector-vector decay process B-/+--rho(-/+)rho(0). The measurement uses a 78 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider operating at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We obtain a branching fraction of B(B-/+--rho(-/+)rho(0))=[31.7+/-7.1(stat)+3.8-6.7(syst)]x10(-6). An analysis of the rho helicity-angle distributions gives a longitudinal polarization fraction of Gamma(L)/Gamma=0.95+/-0.11(stat)+/-0.02(syst). We also measure the direct-CP-violating asymmetry A(CP)(B-/+--rho(-/+)rho(0))=0.00+/-0.22(stat)+/-0.03(syst).

- Abstract
We report evidence for the decay mode B--phiphiK based on an analysis of 78 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. This is the first example of a b--sssss transition. The branching fraction for this decay is measured to be B(B+/---phiphiK+/-)=(2.6(+1.1)(-0.9)+/-0.3)x10(-6) for a phiphi invariant mass below 2.85 GeV/c(2). Results for other related charmonium decay modes are also reported.

We report a measurement of the $B^0-\bar{B}^0$ mixing parameter $\Delta m_d$ based on a $\rm 29.1~fb^{-1}$ sample of $\Upsilon (4S)$ resonance decays collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We use events with a partially reconstructed $B^0(\bar{B}^0) \to D^{*\mp} \pi^{\pm}$ candidate and where the flavor of the accompanying $B$ meson is identified by the charge of the lepton from a $B^0(\bar{B}^0) \to X^{\mp} \ell^{\pm} \nu$ decay. The proper-time difference between the two $B$ mesons is determined from the distance between the two decay vertices. From a simultaneous fit to the proper-time distributions for the same-flavor ($B^0(\bar{B}^0)$, $\ell^{\pm}$) and opposite-flavor ($B^0(\bar{B}^0)$, $\ell^{\mp}$) event samples, we measure the mass difference between the two mass eigenstates of the neutral $B$ meson to be $\Delta m_d$= $(0.509 \pm 0.017~(\rm stat) \pm 0.020~(\rm syst))~ps^{-1}$.

We report studies of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay B+/- --> DCPK+/-, where D-CP denotes CP eigenstates of the D-0 - (D) over bar (0) system. The analysis is based on a 29.1 fb(-1) sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) storage ring. We measure ratios of branching fractions, relative to Cabibbo-favored B+/--->D(CP)pi+/-, of B>(B- --> D1K-)/B(B- --> D(1)pi(-)) = 0.125 +/-0.036 +/- 0.010 and B(B- --> D2K-)/B(B- --> D(2)pi(-)) = 0.119 +/- 0.028 +/- 0.006; the index 1 (2) denotes the CP = +1 (-1) eigenstate. We also extract the partial rate asymmetries for B+/- --> DCPK+/-, finding A(1) = 0.29 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.05 and A(2) = -0.22 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.04.

We report the first measurement of the branching fraction for the inclusive decay B → X s l + l - , where l is either an electron or a muon, and X s is a hadronic recoil system that contains an s quark. We analyzed a data sample of 65.4 x 10 6 B meson pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e - asymmetric-energy collider. We find B(B → X s l + l - ) = [6.1 ′ 1.4(stat) + 1 . 4 - 1 . 1 (syst)] × 10 - 6 for dilepton masses greater than 0.2 GeV/c 2 .

The free ion yields from /sup 207/Bi conversion electrons were measured as a function of applied electric field using ionization chambers filled with tetramethylsilane (TMS) and tetramethylgermanium (TMG). The distributions for thermalization lengths of electrons were calculated by using Gaussian and exponential forms. The total free ion yields considering the impurity effect in liquid, and the thermalization lengths of electrons in TMS and TMG were determined to be 3.35+or-0.49, 3.42+or-0.56 and 165+or-18 AA, 185+or-24 AA, respectively. >

Two detector media suitable for a warm liquid ionization chamber filled with tetramethylsilane (TMS) and tetramethylgermanium (TMG) were exposed to /spl gamma/-radiation from a /sup 60/Co source up to a dose of 579 Gray and 902 Gray, respectively. The electron lifetimes and the free ion yields were measured as a function of accumulated radiation dose. A similar behavior of the electron lifetimes and the free ion yields with increasing radiation dose was observed between the TMS and TMG ionization chambers. >

We present a measurement of the B0-Bmacr;(0) mixing parameter Deltam(d) using neutral B meson pairs in a 29.1 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We exclusively reconstruct one neutral B meson in the semileptonic B0-->D(*-)l(+)nu decay mode and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from its decay products. From the distribution of the time intervals between the two flavor-tagged B meson decay points, we obtain Deltam(d)=(0.494+/-0.012+/-0.015) ps(-1), where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

In 1985, Ueda et al. proposed the UMOSFET structure. For the last ten years, ON resistance of UMOSFET has been much lower than that of planar DMOSFET. However, the reliability of the trench gate characteristics of UMOSFET has not been reported so far. In our experiment, the breakdown voltage of the trench gate was about half that of the planar gate in the same oxide thickness, and the trench gate was easily destroyed by bias stress and thermal stress. The oxide-nitride complex gate structure overcomes these difficulties. Optimizing complex film gate structure, logic level UMOSFET with high gate reliability, same as that of planar MOSFET, can be obtained.

The energy resolutions of 976 keV conversion electrons from a /sup 207/Bi source are measured in a gridded ionization chamber filled with tetramethylsilane (TMS) and tetramethylgermanium (TMG), and are found to be about 5.71, 5.53% (RMS) for TMS and TMG, respectively. We discuss on the difference between the obtained energy resolution and the theorically limited energy resolution. We also deduce a simple method of estimating the electron lifetime by a gridded ionization chamber. The electron lifetime, free ion yield and thermalization length for these liquids are measured by this simple method.

We report the first observation of a B meson decay that is not accessible by a direct spectator process. The channel B(0)-->D(+)(s)K- is found in a sample of 85 x 10(6) BB; events, collected with the Belle detector at KEKB, with a branching fraction B(B(0)-->D(+)(s)K-)=(4.6(+1.2)(-1.1)+/-1.3) x 10(-5). We also obtain evidence for the B0-->D(+)(s)pi(-) decay with branching fraction B(B0-->D(+)(s)pi(-))=(2.4(+1.0)(-0.8)+/-0.7) x 10(-5). This value may be used to extract a model-dependent value of |V(ub)|.

We present an improved measurement of the standard model CP violation parameter sin2phi_1 (also known as sin2beta) based on a sample of 85 times 10^6 B Bbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. One neutral B meson is reconstructed in a J/psi K_S, psi(2S) K_S, chi_{c1} K_S, eta_c K_S, J/psi K^{*0}, or J/psi K_L CP-eigenstate decay channel and the flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. From the asymmetry in the distribution of the time interval between the two B meson decay points, we obtain sin2phi_1 = 0.719 +/- 0.074(stat) +/- 0.035(syst)., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in PRD Rapid Communications

We report the observation of prompt $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ via double $c\overline{c}$ production from the ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ continuum. In this process one $c\overline{c}$ pair fragments into a $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ meson while the remaining pair either produces a charmonium state or fragments into open charm. Both cases have been experimentally observed. We find cross sections of $\ensuremath{\sigma}[{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}{\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(\ensuremath{\gamma})]\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathcal{B}({\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\ge}4\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{\text{charged}})=({0.033}_{\ensuremath{-}0.006}^{+0.007}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.009)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}$ and $\ensuremath{\sigma}({e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}{D}^{*+}X)=({0.53}_{\ensuremath{-}0.15}^{+0.19}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.14)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}$ and infer $\ensuremath{\sigma}({e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}c\overline{c})/\ensuremath{\sigma}({e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}X)={0.59}_{\ensuremath{-}0.13}^{+0.15}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.12$. These results are obtained from a $46.2\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{f}\mathrm{b}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ data sample collected near the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider.

We report the observation of a narrow peak in the ${K}_{S}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ invariant mass distribution in a sample of exclusive $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}K{K}_{S}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ decays collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. The measured mass of the peak is $M=3654\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}6(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{t})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}8(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{y}\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t})\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{M}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/{c}^{2}$, and we place a 90% confidence level upper limit on the width of $\ensuremath{\Gamma}l55\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{M}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/{c}^{2}$. The properties agree with heavy-quark potential model expectations for the ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2S)$ meson, the $n=2$ singlet $S$ charmonium state.

- Abstract
We report the first measurement of the branching fraction for the inclusive decay B--X(s)l(+)l(-), where l is either an electron or a muon, and X(s) is a hadronic recoil system that contains an s quark. We analyzed a data sample of 65.4 x 10(6) B meson pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) asymmetric-energy collider. We find B(B--X(s)l(+)l(-))=[6.1 +/-1.4(stat) +1.4-1.1(syst)] x 10(-6) for dilepton masses greater than 0.2 GeV/c(2).

- Abstract
We report the first observation of a B meson decay that is not accessible by a direct spectator process. The channel B(0)--D(+)(s)K- is found in a sample of 85 x 10(6) BB; events, collected with the Belle detector at KEKB, with a branching fraction B(B(0)--D(+)(s)K-)=(4.6(+1.2)(-1.1)+/-1.3) x 10(-5). We also obtain evidence for the B0--D(+)(s)pi(-) decay with branching fraction B(B0--D(+)(s)pi(-))=(2.4(+1.0)(-0.8)+/-0.7) x 10(-5). This value may be used to extract a model-dependent value of |V(ub)|.

We report the results of a study of two-body B meson decays to the complete set of K pi, pi pi, and K K final states. The study is performed on a data sample of 31.7 +/- 0.3 million B B-bar events recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle experiment at KEKB. We observe significant signals in all K pi final states and in the pi+ pi- and pi+ pi0 final states. We set limits on the pi0 pi0 and K K final states. A search is performed for partial-rate asymmetries between conjugate states for flavor-specific final states., Submitted to PRD

We present a measurement of $CP$-violating asymmetries in ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays based on a $41.8\text{ }{\mathrm{f}\mathrm{b}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ data sample collected at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. We fully reconstruct one neutral $B$ meson as a ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ $CP$ eigenstate and identify the flavor of the accompanying $B$ meson from its decay products. From the asymmetry in the distribution of the time intervals between the two $B$ meson decay points, we obtain the $CP$-violating asymmetry parameters ${\mathcal{S}}_{\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}}=\ensuremath{-}{1.21}_{\ensuremath{-}0.27}^{+0.38}(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{t}{)}_{\ensuremath{-}0.13}^{+0.16}(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{y}\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t})$ and ${\mathcal{A}}_{\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}}=+{0.94}_{\ensuremath{-}0.31}^{+0.25}(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{t})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.09(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{y}\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t})$.

- Abstract
We present a measurement of the B0-Bmacr;(0) mixing parameter Deltam(d) using neutral B meson pairs in a 29.1 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We exclusively reconstruct one neutral B meson in the semileptonic B0--D(*-)l(+)nu decay mode and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from its decay products. From the distribution of the time intervals between the two flavor-tagged B meson decay points, we obtain Deltam(d)=(0.494+/-0.012+/-0.015) ps(-1), where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

- Abstract
We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B+/---omegaK+/- decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B+/---omegapi(+/-) decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B+/---omegaK+/-)=(9.2(+2.6)(-2.3)+/-1.0)x10(-6) and B(B+/---omegapi(+/-))=(4.2(+2.0)(-1.8)+/-0.5)x10(-6). We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B+/---omegaK+/- decays and obtain A(CP)=-0.21+/-0.28+/-0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb(-1) collected on the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider.
