Mikalojaus Konstantino Čiurlionio ir Sofijos Kymantaitės kūrybinis tandemas yra vienas ryškiausių X X amžiaus pradžios lietuvių kultūroje. Iš bendros jųdviejų kūrybos straipsnyje daugiausia dėmesio skiriama tautinės operos „Jūratė" projektui. Kadangi muzikinio teksto fragmentai nei libretas neišliko, hipotetiškai rekonstravus siužeto intrigos mazgus, straipsnyje pateikiama platesnė Vidurio Europos (čekų) nacionalinės operos moteriškųjų personažų apžvalga. Šiame kontekste ryškėja Čiurlioniu poros siekis pradėti lietuviškos operos istoriją kūriniu, atitinkančiu modernizuotos Rytų Europos operos standartus. Straipsnio struktūra tridalė: pirmame ir antrame skyriuose aptariami lygiavertės Čiurlioniu partnerystės argumentai, moters vaizdiniai XIX amžiaus pabaigos - XX amžiaus pradžios literatūroje bei mene - nuo Madonos iki Chimeros - ir Jūratės personažo vieta šioje skalėje. Paskutinė straipsnio dalis skirta atskleisti Vidurio ir Rytų Europos meno atstovų pasaulėjautos sąsajas, lyginant gyvenimo ir meno sintezės šalininko Františeko Ksavero Saldos ir rašytojos Ruženos Svobodovos susirašinėjimą su Čiurlionio laiškų Čiurlionienei-Kymantaitei motyvais. Pastangos gyvenimą pakylėti iki grožio idealo (gyvenimo ir meno sintezės programa) siejasi su Nietzsches iškeltąja „tragedijos gimimo iš muzikos dvasios" įžvalga. The creative tandem of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Sofija Kymantaitė is one of most outstanding in the early 20th c. Lithuanian culture. The paper mainly focuses on their joint project of the national opera “Jūratė”. Since neither the fragments of the musical text nor the libretto survived, having hypothetically reconstructed the intrigue nodes of the plot, the paper presents a wider overview of feminine characters of Western European (Czech) national opera. This context reveals the aspiration of the Čiurlionis couple to start the history of Lithuanian opera with a work meeting the standards of modernised Eastern European opera. The paper consists of three parts: the first and second chapters discuss the arguments of the equivalent partnership of the Čiurlionis couple, the images of a woman in literature and art of the end of the 19th c. – the beginning of the 20th c. – from Madonna to Chimera – and the place of the character of Jūratė in this scale. The final part of the paper reveals the connections of the worldview of Central and Eastern European art representatives, comparing the correspondence between František Xaver Šalda, advocate of the life and art synthesis, and writer Růžena Svobodová and the motifs of Čiurlionis’ letters to Kymantaitė-Čiurlionienė. The efforts to lift life to the ideal of beauty (life and art synthesis programme) are related to Nietzsche’s insights of “the birth of tragedy and the spirit of music”.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas klausimas ar 20 amžiaus Lietuvoje mėginta rašyti politiškai angažuotą dailės istoriją ir, jei taip, kaip šis procesas atrodė Antrojo pasaulinio karo metais. Aiškintasi, ar Lietuvoje buvo bandymų vietinę dailės istoriją rašyti per vokišką prizmę ir kaip germanizacijos procesai reiškėsi Lietuvos dailės istorijai. Pagrindinis dėmesys skiriamas intelektualui, dailės istorikui ir kritikui Mikalojui Vorobjovui, kuris dirbo Lietuvoje Antrojo pasaulinio karo metais. Pirminis jo darbų tikslas buvo pristatyti Vilniaus kraštą ir architektūrą „Kauno Lietuvos“ gyventojams, kurie anksčiau nebuvo matęs istorinės Lietuvos sostinės. Lietuvą užėmus naciams, Vorobjovas dėl palankumo vokiečiams ir vokiečių kultūrai tapo puikiu kandidatu kurti naują ir vokiečiams palankią Lietuvos meno istoriją. Tą jis galėjo daryti ramesniu 1941-1943 m. periodu. Iki 1943 m. M. Vorobjovas skaitė paskaitas, populiarino Vilniaus architektūrinį paveldą, užsiėmė paveldosaugine veikla, organizavo ekskursijas po Vilnių. Vienas iš vokiečių valdžios užsakymų šiam meno istorikui buvo vokiečių įtakos Vilniaus barokui tyrinėjimas, paskatinęs M. Vorobjovą susidomėti iš Vokietijos kilusio architekto Jono Kristupo Glaubitzo kūryba: atlikti tyrimai iki šių dienų yra palikę svarbią žymę architektūros istorijoje. Daroma išvada, jog vokiškosios mokyklos paveiktas M. Vorobjovas pritaikė naujus dailės tyrimo būdus lokaliniuose Lietuvos dailės istorijos tyrimuose, todėl turėtų būti vertinamas ne kaip okupacinės valdžios bendrininkas, o kaip dailės istorijos inovatorius.

Straipsnyje yra keliami teisės prigimties klausimai. Teigiama, kad teisė turi būti vertinama ne tik kaip mokslo pagrindu egzistuojantis, bet ir kaip meno savybes reflektuojantis reiškinys. Straipsnyje nesiekiama paneigti mokslo įtakos ir naudos teisei, bet pabrėžiami meninės prigimties teisės požymiai. Straipsnio teiginiai, patvirtinantys teisės meninį pobūdį, yra aktualizuojami šiuolaikinės Lietuvos teismų praktikos pavyzdžiais. Law has traditionally been considered to be a matter of science. Nevertheless, science cannot be assessed as being supreme source of knowledge. The authority of law as a science should be associated with the Enlightenment. The strongest expression of law as a science could be defined as legal positivism. However, the prominence of a science within the domain of law can be risky and provide conflicts between the objectives of law. The article is a seek to highlight that category law falls not only within the phenomenon of a science but also an art. At the same time it does not deny the influence of a science on law and related beneficial affects strengthening law. The article provides consistent insights on an impact of a science towards law. It examines how the prevailing ideas of the Enlightenment developed particularly strong scientific approach to the law known as legal positivism. The article claims on potential risk of scientific prominence in law, when the role of science in law is immoderate and certain values in law is denied as well. The article raises the idea of a necessity not to lose a sight of an art in a content of law. The theoretical insights on law in a context of art is presented in the article. The idea by which law could be understood as being not only a matter of science but also a matter of art is provided through the concept of deconstruction. Certain elements of art is distinguished, these are creation, beauty, astonishment, truth, and style. The analysis is based on a search of the reflections of aforementioned elements in Lithuanian caselaw.

Šiuo straipsniu norima pristatyti vieną iš šiuolaikinio meno krypčių – tyrimas susijęs su įvietinto šiuolaikinio meno teoriniu diskursu. Analizuojant šiuolaikinio meno kūrinius, fiziškai ir semantiškai susietus su vieta, kurioje pastarieji įkurdinti ir/arba ją konceptualiai reflektuoja, teorija gali tapti racionaliu pagrindu juos aiškinantis ir interpretuojant. Straipsnio aktualumą vietiniame kontekste nurodo ne tik analizių šia tema trūkumas, bet ir nuo XX a. 9-10 dešimtmečių sandūros lietuvių menininkų dėmesys vietai, kurioje kūrinys pristatomas arba specialiai jai, atsižvelgiant į jos savybes, sukurtas. Kūrinio susiejimas su konkrečia vieta neretai tampa menininko tapatumo bei šiuolaikiškumo ženklu. Šiame straipsnyje vietą konceptualizuojančią kūrybą siūloma įvardyti „įvietinto meno“ terminu. Atsižvelgiant į tai, jog kūriniai, pritaikyti vietai, neturi puošybinės ar memorialinės paskirties, nėra vietai indiferentiški ir savireferentiški, jais nesiekiama „nuvietinti“ vietos, atvirkščiai, per sąsają, tiesioginį kontaktą norima išryškinti realios, fizinės vietos savybes ir jas įprasminti meno kūrinyje. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama Miwon Kwon, Jameso Mayerio ir Nieko Kaye studijos ir straipsniai, kuriuose jie išskiria ir aptaria įvietinto šiuolaikinio meno tipus, jiems būdingus bruožus bei savybes. Remiantis šiais teoretikais, straipsnyje klasifikuojamas įvietintas šiuolaikinis menas ir išskiriami jo galimi modeliai. Site-specific art is an occurrence exceptional to contemporary art, containing in it a concept of post-disciplinary art. The concept of artwork associated with a site is fundamental in all aspects - the artists idea, exploring the site, accomplishing the artwork and the theory backdrop. This particular art based on the bond between artwork and site, which appeared in Western Europe and United States in the 1960s., is noted in the work of minimalist, conceptualist, land art, installation and process art (performance, actions, body art). The five models of site-specific art, discussed in the article are: a "here and now" site, a site as an institution, a site as a social circumstance, a decentered site and a site as a community. These models demonstrate the development of this specific contemporary art practice starting from a specified site where the art presented on the site is closely bonded to the site and therefore it takes its physical parameters into account, developing into an "expanded" model when not just the site, but also a wider institutional and social context is considered. Finally, the decentered (being completely disconnected from the physical parameters and even from contemporary art problems) site emerges or a closer relation with the local site community could be sought. This development in the site-specific art is acknowledged as a shift from the 1960s site-specific art concept towards a narrative site-specificity and collective creative activity. In the article, the site-specific art models and their features are arranged chronologically, but these features are often interchangeable and simultaneous definitions, applicable to the art projects and even to the single artwork.

Indijos kultūros, estetikos ir meno tradicija, greta Kinijos, Egipto, Irano, hebrajų, Graikijos, Bizantijos, Japonijos, arabų musulmonų ir Vakarų, paliko gilų rėžį civilizacijos istorijoje. Tai viena didingiausių žmonijos istorijoje gyvavusių civilizacijų, kurios sukurtas kultūrinis fondas žavi įvairiomis formomis ir idėjomis. Gvildendami nuo seniausių laikų Hindustano pusiasalio regione išsiskleidusias skirtingas vietines estetikos ir meno tradicijas, tik santykiškai galime vartoti universalias sąvokas "Indijos" ar "indų", nes dabartinės Indijos valstybės teritorija iki nepriklausomybės atgavimo nebuvo vientisas valstybinis organizmas ar homogeniška kultūrinė erdvė. Kultūrinėje Hindustano aplinkoje per pastaruosius 5000 metų gyvavo daugybė skirtingų imperijų, karalysčių, kurios nuolatos keitė savo teritorijų ribas. O šių žemių sujungimas į vientisus valstybinius organizmus, lyginant su susiskaldymo tarpsniais, buvo ne toks ilgas ir beveik niekuomet neaprėpė visų dabartinės Indijos, pakistano ir Bangladešo teritorijų. Plačiu istoriniu žvilgsniu žvelgiant į Hindustano kultūrą, galima teigti, jog ji išgyveno du esmiškai skirtingus urbanizuotos kultūros raidos ciklus: pirmasis ikiistorinis (protoindiškųjų Harappos ir Mohendžo daro civilizacijų) ir antrasis – istorinis, kurį skirtingi autoriai sieja su klasikiniame periode iškilusia Magadhos valstybe arba Maurijų imperijos atsiradimu. Tarp šių dviejų ciklų driekiasi beveik tūkstantmetį aprėpiantis urbanizuotos kultūros nuosmukio tarpsnis, apie kurio estetinius idealus ir meno raidą patikimų archeologinių ar rašytiniais tekstais dokumentuotų žinių neturime.

Šiuolaikinės ekranosferos arba, prancūzų filosofo ir sociologo Gilles'o Lipovetsky teigimu, visur esančio, daugiaformio, multimedijuoto „globalaus ekrano" veikimas nevienareikšmis - jis medijuoja kolektyvinę atmintį, transliuoja praeities vaizdinius, tačiau išstumia iš bendruomeninės atminties tikrus įvykius, siūlo vaizdinius jų pakaitalus. Tiriant „ekraninį" meną reikalingos sudėtinės („globalios") prieigos - vaizdo kultūros visumos be išankstinės estetinės hierarchijos supratimas, uždaros vaizdo „gramatikos" lauko plėtimas ieškant sąsajų su socialine aplinka ir dvasiniu individo pasauliu. Nors postmodernioje vartotojiškoje visuomenėje vyrauja dabarties laiko kategorija, „dabartiška" kultūra, nukreipta j trumpalaikę finansinę naudą, nenutrūkstamus skaitmeninius tinklus ir individualius malonumus, tačiau sykiu paradoksaliai stiprėja praeities ašis - paveldo ir atmintinų vietų, atminties sureikšminimas. Šitai rodo muziejų suklestėjimas, istorinių monumentų, įvairiausių reikšmingų datų bei retro kultas, taip pat stiprėjantis nacionalinio, kultūrinio ir etninio tapatumo įprasminimo poreikis, kreipiantis į kolektyvinę atmintį According to French philosopher and sociologist Gilles Lipovetsky, contemporary screen-sphere or omnipresent, multi-forme, multi-median 'global screen' mediates collective memory, translates images of the past and, contrary, displaces from collective memory of the nation real events and creates and offers new visual substitutes. The research of screen art requires a 'global' approach - to understand visual culture as a whole without any preconceived aesthetic hierarchy, to extend the field of closed visual 'grammar' in searching relations to social milieu and inner world of individual. Although postmodern consumers' society is dominated by the category of the present time, present time or culture oriented towards short-term financial benefits, on-going digital networks and individual pleasures, paradoxically at the same time the axis of past time - heritage, memorial places, memory - is also increasing. This tendency is demonstrated by development of the different kind of museums, the cult of anniversaries, retro and vintage and the need to construct or to strengthen the national, cultural and ethnic collective identity appealing to collective historical memory.

Šiuolaikinei visuomenei kasdien pasiūloma vis naujų meno kūrinių, ir šią formą galima traktuoti kaip netiesioginį menininkų ir visuomenės bendravimą. Kadangi visko aprėpti neįmanoma, visuomenei reikia apsispręsti, ką pasirinkti, o meninių kūrinių recenzijos puikiai gali atlikti šią funkciją. Šio straipsnio aktualumas pasireiškia tuo, kad jis suteikia įžvalgų, kaip recenzentai suvokia ir perteikia savo požiūrį / nuomonę apie analizuojamą meno kūrinį, kaip išreiškia jo vertinimą, kas ir padeda auditorijai susidaryti savo nuomonę ir nuspręsti, ar tas kūrinys vertas jų dėmesio. Tyrimo objektas – požiūrio į įvairius meno kūrinius raiška per modalumą šiuolaikinėse lietuviškose ir angliškose recenzijose žiniasklaidoje. Darbo tikslas – išsiaiškinti, kokios modalumo raiškos priemonės naudojamos išreiškiant recenzento teigiamą ir / ar neigiamą požiūrį / vertinimą lietuviškose ir angliškose recenzijose. Iškeltam tikslui pasiekti buvo suformuluoti tokie siekiniai: atrinkti modalumo raiškos priemones, naudojamas įvairiems vertinimo atspalviams atskleisti meninių tekstų recenzijose minimomis kalbomis ir palyginti bei analizuoti gautus tyrimo rezultatus. Medžiaga tyrimui buvo surinkta iš 2009-2010 metų lietuviško meninės pakraipos savaitraščio „Literatūra ir menas“ bei britų savaitraščio „The Observer“ priedo „Review“. Darbe buvo pasitelkti aprašomasis, kontrastyvinis ir analitinis metodai. Teorinėje straipsnio dalyje apžvelgiama recenzija kaip diskurso rūšis, aprašomi jos tikslai ir funkcijos. Vertinimas iškeliamas kaip viena iš pagrindinių recenzijos funkcijų. Čia į modalumą žiūrima kaip į priemonę išreikšti recenzento požiūrį į aptariamą meno kūrinį. Apžvelgiamos įvairios modalumo sampratos. Teksto modalumo sąvoka, naudojama šiame darbe, apibrėžiama kaip universali kalbinė komunikatyvinė-pragmatinė kategorija, kur dėmesys sutelkiamas į autoriaus nuomonę ir požiūrį į aptariamą kūrinį. Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad meninių kūrinių recenzijose modaliniai prieveiksmiai yra gan panašiai naudojami išreikšti didesniam ar mažesniam įsitikinimui / tikrumui, o kitos modalumo raiškos priemonės dažniau aptinkamos lietuviškose recenzijose. Ryškėja tendencija pasitelkti modalumą kaip būdą sušvelninti neigiamus atsiliepimus lietuviškose meninių kūrinių recenzijose, kai tuo tarpu angliškų recenzijų autoriai šiam tikslui dažniau naudoja kitas priemones. Contemporary society is offered new pieces of art every day and that can be interpreted as indirect communication. The audience have to make their choice and art reviews are a good means that helps people to get a handle on all this. This article is expected to be relevant as it provides an insight of how reviewers understand certain art works, how they express their opinion or attitude towards them and then what their evaluation is, which consequently helps the audience form their opinion about the works reviewed. The object of the research is evaluation of different pieces of art expressed through modality in present-day Lithuanian and English reviews found in the media. The article aims at finding out how different means of realization of modality are employed to express the speaker’s / writer’s positive and / or negative attitude / evaluation of a piece of art in Lithuanian and English reviews. This is achieved by setting such objectives as to find out different means of how different shades of evaluation are revealed in Lithuanian and English art reviews and later to compare and analyse the results of the research. The material for the research was compiled from the Lithuanian periodical "Literatūra ir menas" and the "Review" of the British periodical "The Observer" of the years 2009-2010. Descriptive, contrastive and analytical methods were applied in this work. The theoretical part of this article surveys the review as a discourse type and enumerates its aims and functions it serves. It also looks at evaluation as one of the basic functions of the review. Modality is seen here as a means to express the reviewer’s attitude towards the work analysed. This work reviews different treatments of modality and its definitions and then defines text modality as it is used in this article, ie a universal linguistic communicative-pragmatic category focusing mainly on the author’s opinion about and attitude towards the work analysed. The results of the research show that modal adverbs are used similarly to express more or less certainty in art reviews whereas the other means of realization of modality appear more frequently in Lithuanian art reviews than in their English counterparts. There also seems to be a tendency to employ modality as a means of mitigating negative evaluations in Lithuanian art reviews while English reviewers tend to apply other means.

Straipsnyje ginama tezė, kad Benedetto Croce’s estetikos samprata yra alternatyvi modernistinei estetikos sampratai, pagal kurią menas tiriamas kaip specializuota sritis. Croce oponuoja tiek empirizmui, tiek racionalizmui pamatinio pažinimo poziciją suteikdamas ne juslėms ar intelektui, bet intuicijai. Croce’s intuicijos sampratos aptarimas atskleidžia, kad jo estetikoje menas suvokiamas meno filosofijos, o ne modernistinės estetikos prasme. Tai įrodoma dviem etapais: pirma, aptariant intuicijos kaip pamatinio pažinimo reikšmę Croce’s filosofinei sistemai, antra, remiantis tuo, kad intuicija Croce’i galima tik kaip ekspresija, teigiama, kad ši jungtis implikuoja visuomet aktyvų ir kūrybišką santykį su pasauliu. Article analyzes the aesthetics of Benedetto Croce as an alternative to modernistic notion of aesthetics. Croce contradicts empiricism and rationalism proposing the opinion that the process of perception begins not at the level of intelligence or senses, but at the level of intuition at first. The discussion on Croce’s intuition conception helps us to demonstrate that the art in his aesthetics is perceived more in terms of philosophy of art than in terms of modernistic aesthetics. That is shown in two steps: firstly, discussing how important in Croce’s philosophical system is intuition itself as the primary perception; secondly, showing that intuition for Croce is possible only as expression and it means that in this way perception is always creative and active relationship with the world.

Lankytojams 2009-ųjų vasarą duris atvėrusi Nacionalinė dailės galerija muzeologijos požiūriu išgyvena unikalų naujų galimybių, pirmojo karto tarpsnį. Sutelkdama dėmesį į renginių sumanymo (koncepcijos), organizavimo bei pristatymo priemones, ji kuria aktualios šiuolaikinės kultūros institucijos įvaizdį. Tai reiškia, kad kiekvienas vyksmas čia vis dar yra naujas iššūkis ir galimybė pateisinti kūrėjų bendruomenės bei plačiosios publikos lūkesčius. Todėl, rengiant pirmą parodą – „Moters laikas. Skulptūra ir kinas“ (veikė 2010 m. gegužės 21 d. – 2010 m. rugsėjo 26 d.), – viešosiose galerijos erdvėse, komplikuotų erdvių vestibiuliuose, parodos kūrėjams teko susitelkti. Ieškant sprendimų reikėjo kliautis ne vien savo patirtimi, o, subūrus bendradarbiauti sutikusių skirtingų sričių profesionalus, stengtis patraukti šiandieninio žiūrovo dėmesį. Rengiant parodą patirta bendradarbiavimo galia publikacijoje aptariama išskiriant parodos sumanymo, įgyvendinimo ir informacijos sklaidos klausimus. According to the author, in terms of museology, the National Art Gallery of the Lithuanian Art Museum opened in the summer of 2009 has entered a unique stage of the first time offering new opportunities. By focusing on the idea (concept), organisation and the means of presentation of events, she creates a reputation of a relevant modern cultural institution. A nd this means that each process remains a new challenge and an opportunity to meet the/expectations of the community of authors and the general public. Therefore, the preparation of the first exhibition - "Women's Time. Sculpture and Cinema" (took place from 21 May 2010 to 26 September 2010) - for the public gallery spaces, not for the white cube but for complex spatial halls, required concentration. T he search for solutions required more than one's own experience, and professionals in different areas brought together had to try to attract the attention of today's viewer. The power of cooperation demonstrated during the preparation of the exhibition is discussed in the publication, highlighting the issues of the idea, implementation and dissemination of information. The author of the publication tells in detail about the works shown at the exhibition, their grouping principles, "discoveries" of the exhibition, assistants, organisers and exhibition events, analyses Soviet-era Lithuanian sculpture and the specificity of woman's portrayal.

Pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais vizualusis menas vis giliau panyra į atminties ir reliacinę estetiką, kuri siekia aktyvinti kolektyvinę atmintį, skatina prisiminimų ir minčių sąšaukas, atkuria yrantį vienumą ir tęstinumą, stiprina tas pasparas, kurios sutvirtina nacionalinę tapatybę. Šiuolaikinėje technokratinėje ir pohumanistinėje kultūroje atmintis perpildoma vaizdų ir informacijos, kuri nutolina istorinę praeitį, ją pakeičia vizualiniais pakaitalais, istorinėmis fikcijomis ir surežisuotomis tikrovėmis. Atminties meną puoselėjantys dabarties menininkai tampa savotišku priešpuoliu, siekiančiu išlaisvinti, prikelti, priminti praeitį, ją susieti su dabartimi, perkelti į gyvenamą tikrovę, vaizduotę, sąmonę, jausmų ir patyrimų sritį. Jie stengiasi prakalbinti praeitį peržiūrėdami kultūrinį palikimą ir dokumentinę medžiagą. Vis dažniau naudojamos efektyvios priminimo strategijos, kurios medijuoja ir atkuria atmintį. Straipsnyje siekiama aptarti Kęstučio Grigaliūno projektą „Mirties dienoraščiai“ šiuolaikinės kultūros ir meninės praktikos kontekste. Lietuvos ypatingajame archyve saugomą vizualinę medžiagą prikeliantis projektas, apmąstantis kriminalinę sovietinio režimo veiklą, yra simptomiškas atminties meno reiškinys, kuris medijuoja atmintį, išlaisvina visuomeninius ir individualius prisiminimus, ieško tautos bendrumo formų, gyvina sujungiančią atmintį. Taip pat tai yra postūmis mąstyti apie postatminties ir istorinės savimonės raišką šiuolaikinėje kūryboje, apie kintančias praeities įamžinimo formas ir reliacines meno galias. Over the last decade, visual arts have been going deeper into memory and relational aesthetics, which aims to activate collective memory, encourage linkups between memories and thoughts, recovers the vanishing unity and continuity, and strengthens the props consolidating the national identity. In the context of modern technocratic and post-humanist culture, memory is overfilled with images and information, which move the historical past into the shadow, replace it with visual substitutes, historical fictions and staged realities. Contemporary artists fostering the art of memory represent a specific counterattack aimed at liberating, raising and accepting the past, relating it to the present, moving it to the living reality, imagination, consciousness, and the domain of feelings and experiences. They are getting the past to talk through cultural heritage and documentary material. They more often use effective allusion strategies, which recover the past. The article seeks to discuss Kęstutis Grigaliūnas’ project “Mirties dienoraščiai” [Diaries of death] in the context of modern culture and artistic practice. The project restoring the visual material of the Lithuanian Special Archive to life and reflecting on criminal activities of the Soviet regime is a symptomatic phenomenon of the art of memory, which recovers the memory, liberates social and individual remembrances, seeks for forms of national community and revives the uniting memory. It also encourages contemplations on the expression of post-memory and historical self-awareness in the contemporary art and the forms of commemoration and relational powers of art.

Lietuviškoji meno samprata, kol tapo adekvati esmei, yra nuėjusi ilgą plėtojimosi kelią. Jos puoselėtojų gretoje rikiuojasi skirtingomis pasaulėžiūromis ar filosofinėmis nuostatomis besivadovaujantys kultūros kūrėjai. Garbinga vieta modernios lietuviškos meno sampratos kūrėjų būryje priklauso prelatui Aleksandrui Dambrauskui-Adomui Jakštui (1860-1938). Lietuva 2010-aisiais minėjo 150-ąsias šios iškilios asmenybės gimimo metines, tad šio intelektualo estetinės sampratos bruožus pristato literatūrologas Rimantas Skeivys. Lithuanian art concept, until it became adequate to the main issue, has travelled a long road of development. Alongside it’s upholders line up creators of culture, who entertain different worldviews and philosophical determinants. Honourable place in the circle of creators of modern Lithuanian art concept is awarded to prelate Aleksandras Dambrauskas-Adomas Jakštas (1860-1938). In 2010, Lithuania celebrated 150th birth anniversary of this outstanding personality, therefore the features of aesthetical concept of this intellectual are presented by literature researcher Rimantas Skeivys.

Normatyvinėje mokslo filosofijoje siekiama atsakyti į klausimą, kas yra mokslas. Tiek Carnapas, tiek Popperis pasiūlo savus mokslo apibūdinimus, remdamiesi logine pažinimo turinio analize. Tie apibrėžimai yra universalūs ir laikui bėgant nekintantys. Jais remdamasis tyrinėtojas gali atskirti mokslines teorijas nuo nemokslinių ir nuspręsti, kada atsiranda mokslas. Kitokia padėtis susiklosto istorinėje mokslo filosofijos mokykloje, kuri siekia atskleisti įvaizdžius, pasaulio suvokimo būdus ir mokslinio tyrimo praktiką, vyravusią tam tikru istoriniu laikotarpiu, net ir tuos, kurie šiandien yra atmesti, primiršti ar laikomi klaidingais. Istorinis požiūris į mokslo raidą verčia klausti visai kitko – ne kas yra mokslas, o kaip vartojama ir kaip buvo vartota mokslo sąvoka. Tačiau Kuhnas to nedaro ir aiškinasi, kas yra mokslas. Both Carnap and Popper proposed their own definitions of science. For this purpose they used the logical analysis of language in which the content of science was expressed. These definitions are universal and stable over time. On the basis of these definitions investigator can discern scientific theories from non-scientific ones and determine when the science started up. The issue was treated quite differently in historical school of philosophy of science where the historians of science attempted to display even those images, world-views and practices of scientific investigation which dominated in their own time and are now discarded. The new sort of questions arises to the followers of the historical school of philosophy of science: how was the concept of science used in their investigations but not what is this thing called science. However, Kuhn still attempts to answer the old question in his Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Straipsnyje apžvelgiama antikos minties recepcija Lietuvoje. Teigiama, kad antikos minties išmanymas gali būti tam tikros visuomenės apskritai ir konkrečios mokslo bendrijos brandos rodiklis. Tačiau šis išmanymas nereiškia nekūrybingos antikos idėjų kartotės, priešingai, autoriaus teigimu, antikos idėjų išmanymas (phronesis) sietinas su jų kūrybinga tąsa plėtojant naujas gyvenimo būdo (technē tou biou) koncepcijas. Tai atitinka tiek antikos technē kaip kūrybos turinį, tiek Sokrato pliuralistines nuostatas individui kuriant savo gyvenimą. Autoriaus teigimu, antikos paveldas aktualus pirmiausia kaip gyvenimo kūrybos (technē) bei kūrybinio išmanymo (phronesis) sukabinimo menas. Iškeliama tezė: bet koks žvilgsnis į antiką ar kitus istorinius periodus, įsisavinančius antikos paveldą, yra užgožtas kitų laikotarpių antikos idėjų recepcijų, neatsiejamų nuo to meto visuomeninių siekių bei kūrybinių nuostatų. Antikos minties recepcija Lietuvoje apžvelgiama nuo Lietuvos filosofijos pradžios XVI a. pradžioje iki Antrojo pasaulinio karo. The article deals with the perception of antique thought in Lithuania. According to the author, knowing antique thought could be a factor of maturity of society in general and of scientific community in particular. However, knowing does not mean uncreative repetition of antique ideas. On the contrary, knowledge (phronesis) of antique ideas should be connected with their creative continuance by developing new conceptions of life art (technē tou biou). It corresponds to both the antique technē as the content of creation and pluralistic attitudes of Socrates by creating one’s individual life. According to the author, antique heritage is actual first of all as the art of linking life creation (technē) and creative knowledge (phronesis). The author develops this thesis as follows: every look at antiquity and other historical periods that assimilate antique heritage is upstaged by the receptions of other historical periods, receptions that are inseparable from social aspirations and creative attitudes of that time. The reception of antique thought in Lithuania has been shown from the beginning of Lithuanian philosophy in the early 16th century until the Second World War. The antique thought has been assimilated by developing Lithuanian philosophy. The way of thought leads through the regions of becoming the culture of the national community.

Islamizacijos iššūkiai -- Ankstyvoji islamiška architektūra -- Mogolų kultūros iškilimas -- Mogolų architektūros tradicijos savitumas. Hindustano pusiasalis yra vienas seniausių didžiųjų pasaulinės civilizacijos centrų, kuriame tūkstantmečiais gyvavo ir viena kitą keitė įvairios imperijos, valstybės ir tautos. Jų kultūrinis paveldas turėjo milžinišką įtaką pasaulinės civilizacijos istorijai. Jokia kita pasaulio civilizacinė tradicija, išskyrus kinų, neturėjo tokios ilgos ir nenutrūkstamos kultūros istorijos. Ji pasižymėjo ypatingu stabilumu, idėjų, tradicijų perėmimu, kurį lėmė indų religinės, estetinės ir meninės sąmonės sinkretiškumas. Iš čia plaukė sugebėjimas tūkstantmečiais jungti po vienu stogu įvairias vietines kultūros formas, iš kurių daugelis archajišku pavidalu išliko iki nūdienos. Tai nereiškia, kad pusiasalio erdvėje neveikė įprasti kultūrinės raidos, asimiliacijos ir adaptacijos dėsniai, tačiau akivaizdu, kad įvairių kultūros tradicijų sintezės apraiškos ne visuomet skleidėsi nuosekliai, todėl nepajėgė galutinai homogenizuoti šios etniniu ir religiniu požiūriu margos geografinės erdvės. Pagrindinis šios studijos uždavinys – atskleisti islamizacijos poveikį tradicinei Hindustano erdvėje išsiskleidusiai estetikos ir meno tradicijai, atsiribojant nuo daugelio ideologinių stereotipų aptarti unikalius Mogolų epochos meninės kultūros laimėjimus, pagrindinį dėmesį sutelkiant į labai konkretų, aiškiai laiko požiūriu apribotą indų civilizacijos raidos tarpsnį ir geografinį regioną.

Straipsnis skirtas sekuliarizacijos kaip šiuolaikinio pasaulio iššūkio prasmės aptarimui. Svarstomos skirtingos sekuliarizacijos prasmės sampratos, išryškinant jų ontologinę perspektyvą. Grindžiamas požiūris, kad tik sekuliarizacijos ontologinės prasmės akcentavimas įgalina paaiškinti sekuliarizaciją kaip šiuolaikinio pasaulio iššūkį. Pasiremiant šia perspektyva, analizuojamas ir interpretuojamas religijos ir meno santykis šiuolaikiniame pasaulyje. Straipsnyje taip pat susitelkiama į vieną iš šiuolaikinio meno tendencijų – konceptualizavimo tendenciją. Ne tik interpretuojant atskirus meno kūrinius, bet ir išryškinant skirtingas šiuolaikinio meno startegijas, atskleidžiama „religinio“ meno religinės prasmės „mutacija“. Analizė parodo, jog meno sekuliarizuota prasmė tarpsta „gyvoje“, „aktyvioje“ religinėje prasmėje. Daroma išvada, kad šiuolaikinio religijos ir meno santykio analizė įgalina atskleisti sekuliarizacijos ambivalentiškumą – jos sakraliąją ir profaniškąją prasmes, tam tikrą sekuliarizacijos proceso dialektiką. Article deals with the meaning of secularization as the challenge for contemporary world and considers the ways that secularization affects religion and art as well as their mutual relationship. Different concepts of the meaning of secularization are discussed and their ontological perspectives are highlighted. The attitude, that it is namely the ontological emphasis of the meaning of secularization that enables us to explain its challenge for contemporary world, is being justified. Based on this perspective, the relationship between religion and art in the contemporary world is analyzed and interpreted. The article also focuses on one of the tendencies of contemporary art, i.e. the tendency of conceptualization. Not only by interpreting certain works of art, but also elucidating different strategies of contemporary art, the "mutation" of the religious sense of "religious" art is disclosed. The analysis shows that the secularized meaning of art flourishes through its "alive" and "active" religious meaning. The conclusion is drawn that the analysis of the contemporary relationship between religion and art enables us to disclose the ambiguity of secularization – its sacral and profane sense, a certain dialectics of the process of secularization.

Straipsnyje tyrinėjamos Henriko Radausko realiojo ir kūrybos pasaulių sankirtos. Teiginys, tapęs Poeto kūrybos credo – „Pasauliu netikiu, o Pasaka tikiu“ – pagrindžiamas asmeninio rinkinio, saugomo Maironio lietuvių literatūros muziejuje (toliau – MLLM ) archyvine medžiaga: laiškais, rankraščiais, atsiminimais bei literatūros kritikų įžvalgomis. Poeto tikrasis gyvenimas susietas su dailės, muzikos, literatūros pasauliais, tapusiais jam kūrybos įkvėpimo šaltiniais. Tyrinėjimo objektu pasirinkta paties Radausko sudaryta kūrybos rinktinė „Eilėraščiai“. Radausko sukurtas poetinis pasaulis yra paradoksalus ir kontrastingas, fragmentiškas ir barokiškai puošnus. Tyrinėjant poetinę erdvę atskleidžiamos esminės temos, aptariami kūrybos principai, charakteringi bruožai. Akcentuojama poetinė priemonė – metafora. Article explores the intersections between Henrikas Radauskas real life and his creative world. 'Ihe statement which later became the poet's credo – "I don't believe in the World, but I believe in the fairy tale" is based on his personal archive secured in the Maironis Lithuanian literature museum: letters, manuscripts, memories and remarks by literary critics. The poet's real life was related to fine art, music, the literary world, and all became sources of inspiration to him. The subject chosen for exploration was "Eilėraščiai" – a selection of poems by Radauskas. Radauskas created a poetic world which is paradoxical and contrasting, fragmented and ornamental in a baroque way. Exploration of his poetic space reveals his essential topics, his principles of creativity and characteristic features. Metaphor is emphasized as a poetic device.

Pozityvizmas padarė reikšmingą įtaką daugeliui XIX ir XX amžių filosofijos srovių. Bet jo įtaka skleidėsi plačiau – jis darė poveikį gamtos ir ypač socialiniams mokslams bei įvairioms kitoms viešosios ir privačios žmogaus veiklos sritims: teisei, politikai, kasdieniam gyvenimui. Nemenka jo įtaka ir menui ar menams. Šią įtaką straipsnyje ir mėginama patyrinėti.Įtakos pobūdis priklausė nuo epochos ir joje dominavusios pozityvizmo formos ir buvo ganėtinai skirtingas. Klasikinis, arba socialinis, XIX amžiaus pozityvizmas labiausiai paveikė literatūrą. XIX a. pozityvizmas traukė rašytojus tiek savo dėmesiu faktams ir dėsningai visuomenės raidai, tiek kolektyvistiniais bei altruistiniais idealais, tiek progresyvistine orientacija. Labiausiai jo įtaka jaučiama natūralistiniuose Émilio Zola kūriniuose. Ernsto Macho empiriokriticizmo idėjų poveikis buvo kitoks. Nepalyginti daugiau dėmesio nei Auguste’as Comte’as skyręs ne išoriniams, o vidiniams faktams, o tiksliau, patį jų supriešinimą laikęs ydingu, Machas padarė poveikį vadinamiesiems modernistams: Jamesui Joyce’ui, Franzui Kafkai, Robertui Musiliui. Subjekto desubstancializacija, sąmonės srautas, sapno ir tikrovės suliejimas – tai Macho įtakos ženklai. Jų nestinga ir modernistinėje dailėje, ypač abstrakcionistinėje, nes dailininkus labai paveikė XX amžiaus pradžioje itin populiarios Macho mintys apie percepciją ir ypač erdvės vizualinį suvokimą. Na, o loginio pozityvizmo įtaka ryškiausiai skleidėsi architektūroje, kurią Vienos ratelio nariai laikė svarbiausiu iš menų. Daug bendravę su garsiosios Bauhauso architektūros mokyklos atstovais, jie nemažai prisidėjo prie loginių pozityvistų griežtas logines konstrukcijas atliepiančių funkcionalizmo ir konstruktyvizmo idėjų, „naujojo daiktiškumo“ sklaidos.Pagrindiniai žodžiai: pozityvizmas, menas, natūralizmas, modernizmas, funkcionalizmas.Impact of Positivism on Literature, Visual Arts and ArchitectureEvaldas Nekrašas SummaryPositivism has made a significant influence on many schools of philosophy of the 19th and 20th centuries. But its influence spans even further – positivism also made an impact on natural and especially on social sciences, as well as on various fields of public and private life, such as law, politics and everyday life. A significant influence has been also made on arts. The latter is being analyzed in the article.The nature of influence depended on the historical epoch and the prevailing form of positivism and was quite diverse. Classical or sociological positivism made the biggest impact on literature. Positivism of the 20th century was attractive to writers because of its attention to facts and the steady development of society, collectivistic and altruistic ideals and progressive orientation. The influence of positivism can be seen in naturalistic writings of Émile Zola. The empirio-criticism of Ernst Mach made quite a different impact. Contrary to Auguste Comte, he emphasized not external but internal facts or, to be precise, considered such contraposition to be faulty, and made an impact on writers, such as James Joyce, Franz Kafka, Robert Musil, who are usually called modernists. De-substantialisation of subject, stream of consciousness, fusion of dream and reality are signs Mach’s influence. They are also apparent in abstract art where Mach’s ideas of visual space perception were exceptionally popular at the beginning of the 20th century. In turn, the influence of logical positivism is most visible in architecture which by members of the Vienna Circle was considered to be the most important of arts. Having been in close contact with representatives of the Bauhaus school, they made a significant contribution to the spread of constructivism and functionalism which correspond to the strict logical structures of logical positivism.Keywords: positivism, arts, naturalism, modernism, functionalism.

Apreiškimo scena yra viena svarbiausių tiek Švč. Mergelės Marijos kulto reiškinyje, tiek krikščioniškajame mene. Dievo pasiuntinio arkangelo Gabrieliaus, apreiškusio Viešpaties valią Mergelei Marijai, vaizdinys šioje naratyvinėje scenoje neatsiejamas nuo Marijos. Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjami Viešpaties Apreiškimo Švč. Mergelei Marijai atvaizdai (XVI–XVIII a. Lietuvos bažnytinės dailės objektai). Naudojant ikonografinį-ikonologinį ir ikonoteologinį metodus gilinamasi į šių atvaizdų specifiką, į žemiškosios Mergelės Marijos ir Viešpaties angelo santykį, analizuojama, kaip kinta jų įvaizdis keičiantis Apreiškimo scenos ikonografinei schemai, nagrinėjami teologinės bei pamaldumo tradicijos atspindžiai šiuose atvaizduose. Straipsnis parengtas pranešimo, skaityto konferencijoje „Virgo venerabilis: Marijos paveikslas Lietuvos kultūroje“ (vykusioje 2009 m. Vilniuje, Kultūros, filosofijos ir meno institute), pagrindu. The Annunciation is one of the most important scenes both in Christian art and in the cult of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The image of Archangel Gabriel as a messenger of God, who manifested the will of the Lord to the Virgin Mary is inseparable from Mary in this narrative scene. The images of Annunciation (the church art objects of Lithuania of the 16th–18th centuries) are analysed in this article. The iconographic-iconologic and icontheological methods will be used with the purpose to explore the particularities of these images, the relation between the human Virgin Mary and the Angel of the Lord, how their image is changing according to variation of the iconographic scheme, as well the reflections on the theological and devotional traditions in these images. The article is based on the discourse of the conference “Venerable Virgo: the Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lithuanian Culture” (held in Vilnius, at the Institute of Culture, Philosophy and Art in 2009).

Juodkrantės rinkinyje esančių antropomorfinių ir zoomorfinių figūrėlių analogijų paieškos parodė, kad stilistiškai panašių radinių Baltijos regiono priešistorinėje medžiagoje kol kas nėra, tačiau rastos gintarinės ir kaulinės figūrėlės neteikia pagrindo Juodkrantės rinkinį laikyti atskira stilistine grupe. Antropomorfinių ir zoomorfinių figūrinių atvaizdų, rastų tiek Lietuvos teritorijoje, tiek Baltijos regione, formos bei stilistinės ypatybės nerodo priklausomybės vienai ar kitai archeologinei kultūrai. Taip pat nei formos, nei stiliaus skirtumai neatsispindi ir tarp mezolito bei neolito laikotarpiams priklausančių radinių. Tad archeologinės kultūros sąvoka nereikalinga aptariant zoomorfinius ir antropomorfinius akmens amžiaus figūrinius atvaizdus Baltijos regione. Minėto tipo radinių formos ir stiliaus bendrumas paaiškinamas vienoda ekonomine sankloda ir primityviu atlikimu, kuris ir sukuria stiliaus įspūdį Lietuvos teritorijoje rastus Narvos ir Pamarių kultūroms priskiriamus antropomorfinius ir zoomorfinius atvaizdus, taip pat Juodkrantės rinkinio antropomorfinius ir zoomorfinius atvaizdus palyginus su Baltijos regione ar dar plačiau rastais panašiais atvaizdais, galima konstatuoti, kad neolito laikotarpio Narvos kultūrai priskiriami radiniai iš Lietuvos teritorijos, t. y. raginės lazdos su briedžių galvomis (1: 4-6 pav.), antropomorfinė stulpinė skulptūra iš Šventosios gyvenviečių (2: 1 pav.), antropomorfiniai ir zoomorfiniai kabučiai iš Kretuono 1С gyvenvietės (5: 1-4 pav.) bei molinė paukščio figūrėlė iš Žemaitiškės 2-osios gyvenvietės (9: 1 pav.), yra būdingi ne tik Narvos kultūrai, bet žinomi ir mezolito laikotarpio Baltijos regiono gyvenvietėse, taip pat neolito laikotarpio šukinės duobelinės keramikos kultūros paminkluose. Pastebėta, kad tokių radinių paplitimas neapsiriboja vien Baltijos regionu, nes nemažai jų rasta Vidurio Rusijoje bei Uralo kalnų regione. Tokį platų paplitimą galima paaiškinti tik kaip su medžiotojų bei žvejų gyvenimo būdu ir pasaulėžiūra susijusį fenomeną. Stilistiniai panašumai yra nulemti vaizdavimo primityvumo, o skirtumus lėmė naudotos medžiagos įvairovė. Pamarių kultūrai priskiriami žmonių figūrų atvaizdai ant puodų sienelių taip pat turi analogų sukinės duobelinės kultūros keramikoje, tačiau jų įspaudimui panaudota virvutė rodo su Pamarių kultūros keramika susijusį savitumą. This article draws a comparison between the Stone Age zoomorphic and anthropomorphic images that have been found in present-day Lithuania and similar finds from across the Baltic region. Both the attribution of these artefacts to archaeological cultures and their dating are discussed. The article raises the question whether the different archaeological culture that each article belongs to is reflected in its form and style. The article also questions if the concept of archaeological culture is necessary when writing about Stone Age art

Straipsnio tikslas – atskleisti, kaip choro veikla buvo ugdomi lietuvio klieriko dvasiniai, visuomeniniai ir meniniai asmenybės bruožai Seinų kunigų seminarijoje, veikusioje 1826–1915 ir 1918–1919 m. Tarp seminarijos absolventų – daug iškilių Lietuvos dvasininkų, pasižymėjusių įvairiose kultūros, mokslo ir visuomeninio darbo srityse: P. Kriaučiūnas (1850–1916), J. Katilius (1854–1930), A. Krakaitis (1879–1934), A. Šmulkštys (1866–1931), P. Radžiūnas (1880–1950), J. Petrika (1885–1941), V. Jurgilas (1861–1931), J. Narijauskas (1876–1946), V. Aleksandravičius (1865–1952) ir kt. Ugdomoji choro įtaka atsiskleidė seminariją baigusiems klierikams kunigaujant savose parapijose ir įvairiose Bažnyčios bei valstybės institucijose. The article exceptionally presents the activity of those seminary graduates, who were distinguished in music and while studying in the seminary they were the leaders (conductors) of the choir. Seinai Seminary was opened in 1826-1915 and in 1918-1919 was one of the most important centres of Lithuanian culture and education of that time. In the seminary, the students and professors were mostly Lithuanians. But in the autumn of 1919, when the Polish army occupied Seinai, they were exiled to Lithuania. A lot of distinguished clergymen, who contributed to the Lithuanian national revival, culture and art, left Seinai seminary. The canon, master of theology Vincas Aleksandravičius (1865-1962) distinguished himself as a composer and as a choir conductor. Among his created chants and songs the following ones should be pointed out: "Aušros žvaigždė užtekėjo" ("The morning star has risen"), "Per Tavo šventą, prisikėlimą" ("During Your holy resurrection"), "Angelų pasveikinimas" ("The angels' greeting"), "Libera", "Kalėdgiesmė" ("The Christmas carol"). Mykolas J. Brundza (1884 08 10 - 1938 02 16) edited the seminary newspaper "Jaunuomenės draugas" ("The Youth friend"), later under the pseudonym Bijūnas and Pabalinis wrote for the "Vadovas" ("The Leader"), "Šaltinis" ("The Source"), for the Lithuanian newspaper "Viltis" ("Hope") in 1905. In 1935 he arrived in the USA and there he worked as a chaplain in Newton, Pa St. Casimirs (kazimieriečiai) academy. He distinguished himself as a musician and as an organizer of choirs. Matas Dabrila (1846 08 30 - 1935 01 24 in Vilkaviškis). While working as a priest in Leipalingis he changed Polish chanting for chanting in the native language, taught children and adults Lithuanian prayers; by the time the press was banned he had organized the delivery of the Lithuanian press to the parish people. Juozapas Galeckas (1871 03 02). While studying in the seminary he participated in secret seminary students' organizations, distributed banned Lithuanian press, fostered Lithuanianism. J. Galeckas distinguished himself as an intelligent and energetic personality. While working as a priest he took care of the national education, organized collective trade institutions, established libraries and reading halls. One of the most outstanding national educators Adolfas Lapinskas (1884 10 29 - 1909 07 05) created poetry, wrote down about 150 songs; he made a collection of 500 songs collected by him and by other seminary students. (The collection disappeared during the war). Juozas Skinkis (1870 12 01 - 1943 01 25). He was a member of the Lithuanian science association, a talented artist, a wonderful singer and choir conductor, a teacher of Lithuanian songs, an exceptionally energetic personality in various spheres; collected folk songs; he sang and recorded about 100 songs by the composer St. Šimkus. Simanas Skinkis (1842 10 09 - 1937 01 16). Didelė senosios dailės palikimo dalis pražuvo istorijos kataklizmuose: buvo sunaikinta per karus, konfiskuota ir išvežta į Rusijos muziejus po XIX a. sukilimų. Tokiomis sąlygomis pirmųjų mūsų mokslininkų dėmesys krypo į liaudies dailę. Sovietmečio Lietuvoje liaudies dailės tyrimai buvo toleruojami, bet itin nepalankiai žiūrėta į mėginimus tirti profesionaliąją praėjusių amžių dailę, nes apie ją buvo neįmanoma kalbėti be istorinio konteksto. Blogiausioje padėtyje atsidūrė XVII-XVIII a. skulptūra, kadangi beveik visi jos kūriniai Lietuvoje – sakralinės dailės objektai, apie kuriuos vengta kalbėti. Todėl autorė, aštuntajame devintajame dešimtmetyje rinkdama medžiagą tyrimams, buvo priversta ieškoti sričių, nesusijusių su Bažnyčia. Ligi šiolei tyrinėtojų beveik nedominusi originali dekoratyvinė drožyba liudija didelę meninę šios srities specialistų kultūrą ir praplečia žinias apie praėjusių epochų dailę. Šiame straipsnyje mėginama supažindinti visuomenę su nepagrįstai pamiršta XVII–XVIII a. medžio plastika, stilistinėmis jos srovėmis ir kūrinių kaita dviejų šimtmečių laikotarpiu. Nagrinėjamas laikotarpis sutampa su mūsų kraštui būdingo baroko stiliaus viešpatavimu dailėje, analizuojami skulptūrų pavyzdžiai iliustruoja įvairias jo raidos pakopas. Šalia vertingų profesionaliai drožtų skulptūrų apstu darbų, kuriuos kūrė menkiau įgudę vietos meistrai, apibendrinę ir supaprastinę sudėtingas, įmantrias formas. Šis kūrinių, sudarančių pereinamąją pakopą tarp profesionaliosios ir būdingos liaudies skulptūros, tyrimas leidžia geriau suprasti jų atsiradimo bei brendimo aplinkybes. The major part of the heritage of ancient art disappeared in historical cataclysms: destroyed in wars, confiscated and taken to Russian museums after uprising of the 19th c. Under such conditions, the attention of first Lithuanian scientists focused on art. During the Soviet period, research of Lithuanian folk art was tolerated, yet efforts to analyse professional art of previous centuries were not favourably accepted, since it was impossible to discuss it without historical context. Sculpture of the 17th–18th c. faced the worst situation, since almost all of its works in Lithuania are objects of sacral art, discussions about of which were avoided. Therefore, the author, while collecting material of the research in the ninth decade, was forced to seek for fields unrelated to the Church. The original decorative carving, which has not attracted researchers’ attention so far, demonstrated the high artistic culture of specialists of this field and enhanced the knowledge about the art of the previous epochs. This article attempts to familiarise the reader with wood sculptor of the 17th–18th c., its stylistic flows and works of two decades’ period. The analysed period coincides with the prevalence of the Baroque style typical to our land in art, the analysed samples of sculpture illustrate various stages of its development. Along with valuable professionally carved sculptures, there is a vast number of works created by less skilled craftsmen. The research of these works, which create a bridge between professional and folk sculpture, allows better perceiving the circumstances of their emergence and maturity.

Apskaita dažnai trumpai apibūdinama kaip verslo kalba. Iš tikrųjų apskaita yra specifinis mokslas, kuris yra kilęs iš praktinės veiklos. Iki šiol abejojama, ar apskaitos teorija yra pilnavertė. Per pusę amžiaus apskaitos mokslininkai išvystė keletą požiūrių į apskaitos teoriją ir dėl to atsirado skirtingų apskaitos teorijų, kurios siekia skirtingų tikslų. Straipsnyje siekiama pateikti apskaitos teorijos savybes, kurios parodo, kad apskaita yra mokslas, bei išskirti apskaitos menines savybes, kūrybiškumo apsireiškimus joje, skatinant Lietuvoje vyraujantį požiūrį į apskaitą kaip tikslų mokslą keisti į požiūrį į apskaitą kaip kūrybinę žmogaus veiklą. Accounting is briefly defined as a business language. Accounting is a specific science which is based on a practical human activity. Because of that it is questionable whether accounting theory is a scientific theory as physics and other sciences are. There are some approaches to the accounting theory, therefore we have some accounting theories which have different objectives: some theories emphasize practical aspects, positive accounting theory explains and describes accounting practice, other theories analyse company's relations with stakeholders, impact of their interests on accounting information, etc. Accounting is a multiparadigmatic science. The author of this article seeks to present features of accounting that both prove accounting to be a science as well as show that accounting is an art. The intention of the article is to change the opinion common in Lithuania that accounting is an exact science; the article suggests that accounting is a creative human activity and lectures of financial accounting should be creative, introducing alternatives of accounting policy, approaching accounting broadly.

Remdamasi ikonografiniu paveldu, XVII-XVIII a. tekstais ir analizuodama šventųjų adoravimo socialinį kontekstą autorė straipsnyje bando atskleisti šv. Marijos Magdalenos de'Pazzi kulto įvairialypes bei daugiasluoksnes prasmes: sakralinę ir politinę reikšmę XVII a. antrosios pusės Lietuvos baroko kultūroje ir Bažnyčios istorijoje, taip pat nagrinėja, kaip šventųjų – religinių tiesų skleidėjų — garbinimas veikė skirtingų Europos regionų bendravimą, akcentuojantį diplomatinius santykius tarp didikų dvarų, ir kartu intelektualinių vertybių sklaidą bei jų poveikį politinei raidai, neatsiejamai nuo krikščionybės istorijos konteksto. Autorė teigia, kad sugretinus Šv. Marijos Magdalenos de'Pazzi didžiosios koplyčios Florencijoje ir Pažaislyje ikonografinę idėją matyti, jog čia dominuoja šventosios karmelitės dvasinio ryšio su šv. Augustinu išaukštinimas. Ši meninė charakteristika, atsiskleidžianti Pacų giminės barokinėse fundacijose, autorės manymu, liudija, kad valdančiajai Pacų giminei buvo toli gražu nesvetima laikmečiui būdinga jansenizmo dvasia, o ypač Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės didžiajam etmonui Mykolui Kazimierui Pacui. Pacų giminės pasišventimą šventajai „giminaitei“ autorė aptinka ir nagrinėja ir kitų šios šeimos narių panegiriniuose ar proginiuose kūriniuose. Straipsnyje daroma išvada, kad i šv. Marijos Magdalenos de'Pazzi relikvijos ir jos kulto sklaida Lietuvoje XVII a. antroje pusėje, t. y. dvasinio Katalikų bažnyčios atgimimo laikotarpiu, siejosi su pontifikato interesais šiame regione ir turėjo diplomatinę reikšmę Šventojo Sosto ir Lietuvos didikų Pacų politinei veiklai Respublikoje. Based on iconographic heritage and the 17th–18th c. texts as well as analysing the social context of adoration of the saints, the author seeks to reveal various multi-layer meanings of the cult of Saint Mary Magdalene of Pazzi: the sacral and political significance in Lithuanian Baroque culture and Church history of the second half of the 17th c. The author also analyses how adoration of the saints – the prophets of religious truths – affected the communication of different European regions, emphasising diplomatic relations between noblemen’s manors, and the spread of intellectual values and their impact on political development which is inseparable from the context of Christianity history. According to the author, the comparison of the iconographic idea of Saint Mary Magdalene of Pazzi in the Great Chapel in Florence and Pažaislis reveals exaltation of the spiritual relationship of the Saint Carmelite and Saint Augustine. This artistic characteristic that is revealed in the baroque foundations of the Pacas family testifies that the governing Pacas family, in particular Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas, Great Hetman of the Republic of Lithuania, was associated with Jansenism characteristic to that period. The author also finds and analyses evidence of dedication of the Pacas family to the saint “relative” in the panegyric or special-purpose works of other family members. The author concludes that the relics of Saint Mary Magdalene of Pazzi and the spread of her cult in Lithuania in the second half of the 17th c., i.e. during the spiritual rebirth of the Catholic Church, were associated with the interests of the pontificate in this region and had a diplomatic significance for the political activities of the Holy See and the Lithuanian noble Pacas family in the Commonwealth.

Litvakų dailininko Marco Chagallo (1887–1985) gyvenime vis išnyra Lietuvos vardas. Pirmasis jo mokytojas – Zarasuose gimęs Jahuda Pennas, vėliau dailės studijose – Mstislavas Dobužinskis, į Vakarus sugrįžti padėjo Lietuvos pasiuntinys Maskvoje Jurgis Baltrušaitis, pakeliui į Paryžių buvo surengta pirmoji paroda Kaune. 1935 m. jis lankėsi Vilniuje, o didesnę gyvenimo dalį praleido Paryžiuje įvairių Vilniaus dailės mokyklų auklėtinių litvakų aplinkoje. Dailininkas sukūrė daugiau nei 3000 drobių, gausybę litografijų, graviūrų, teatro kostiumų ir dekoracijų, tekstilės kūrinių, skulptūrų, mozaikų, pano, unikalių – didesnių nei 1000 kvadratinių metrų – vitražo kūrinių. Jam teko patirti, kas yra revoliucija, karas, dalyvauti įvairiuose kultūriniuose bei meniniuose sąjūdžiuose. Pirmuoju gyvenimo Paryžiuje laikotarpiu jis savinosi plastinius prancūzų moderniosios dailės laimėjimus, žavėjosi jais ir savitai jungė su J. Penno įdiegta tautinio žydų meno vizija, litvakiškuoju chasidistinio misticizmo pasauliu. Negatyvi gyvenimo patirtis paženklino Chagallo kūrybą disonansais. Dvasios polėkio laisve alsuojančiose drobėse analitinis kubistų mąstymas, orfistinis spalvinių zonų skaidymas, ryškios emocionalios ir kartu fovistų dekoratyvios spalvos adoracija įgavo naują prasmę ir tarnavo profesionaliems žydų meno uždaviniams įgyvendinti. Drobėse savitai atsiskleidė tradicijos ir modernumo, išminties ir vaikiško nuoširdumo jungties kūrybos potencialas. Chagallo kūrybos išskirtinumas yra tas, kad jis kūrė neperžengdamas tautinės žydų religinės tradicijos ribų, o sąmoningai jos viduje. Marc Chagall (1887–1985) is one of the most prominent Belorussian Jewish (Litvak) painters of the 20th century. He appeared successful in paintings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints. Using the medium of stained glass, he produced windows for the cathedrals of Reims, Metz, the United Nations, and the Jerusalem Windows in Israel. He also did large-scale paintings, including the ceiling for the Paris Opera. His most vital work was made on the eve of World War I, when he travelled between St. Petersburg, Paris, and Berlin. He spent his wartime years in Russia, becoming one the country’s most distinguished artists and a member of the modernist avant-garde, founding the Vitebsk Arts College before leaving again for Paris in 1922. He was known as a pioneer of modernism, and as a major Jewish artist. He synthesized the art forms of Cubism, Symbolism, and Fauvism. Yet he remained most emphatically a Belorussian Jewish artist, who always dreamed of life in his native Vitebsk. Pablo Picasso once remarked that Chagall was the only painter left who understands what colour really is.

Šiandien pedagogas, siekdamas sėkmingo mokymo/si proceso, turi išsiaiškinti mokinių motyvus, kurie gali būti tiek teigiami, tiek ir neigiami. Pozityvūs veiksniai lemia teigiamą motyvaciją, prie kurių galima priskirti tėvų, šeimos pavyzdį, mokytojo autoritetą ir kompetenciją, šiuolaikiškus mokymo metodus ir būdus. Mokslinėje, pedagoginėje literatūroje ir atliktuose tyrimuose daugiau dėmesio yra skiriama kitų mokomųjų dalykų mokymosi motyvacijai, bet nenagrinėjama dailės, technologijų dalykų mokymosi motyvacija. Gal būt iš dalies todėl, kad dailės, technologijų pamokos daugiau siejamos su praktine veikla, su kūrybos procesu nei su mokymusi. Tačiau šiandien ypatingai šiose pamokose pastebimas nenoras dirbti, motyvacijos stoka. Augant vaikui, susidomėjimas daile, technologijomis mažėja, tampa neįdomia veikla ir pagaliau nebereikalinga. Dažnai vyresnių klasių mokiniai išreiškia nuomonę, kad neverta užsiimti rankdarbiais, nes viską galima nusipirkti. Tokią nuomonę įtakoja pasikeitęs šiuolaikinės visuomenės gyvenimo būdas, sumažėję įgūdžiai šiems darbams atlikti, poreikis padaryti pačiam, kadangi iš tikrųjų šiandien daug ką galima įsigyti už pinigus. Ši situacija iškelia nemažai meninio ir technologinio ugdymo problemų. Tyrimo tiksiąs - išsiaiškinti dailės, technologijų mokymosi motyvacijos problemas pagrindinėje mokykloje. Tyrimo metodai - mokslinės literatūros analizė, apklausa raštu. Tyrimo rezultatai. Dailės, technologijų dalykai pagrindinėje mokykloje mokinių yra mėgiami. Mokiniams patrauklios šios pamokos tuomet, kai siūlomos įdomios, naujos technologijos, technikos, naudojami įvairūs, aktyvieji mokymo/si metodai. Dažniausia pasitaikančios dailės, technologijų mokymo/si motyvacijos problemos - neįdomios, nepakankamai išaiškintos užduotys, per mažai laiko skiriama jų įvykdymui, aktualūs drausmės ir pasirengimo pamokoms klausimai. Mokymosi motyvacijos skatinimui dailės ir technologijų pamokose yra svarbus tinkamų mokymo metodų parinkimas ir taikymas, technologinių inovacijų ieškojimas. Today a pedagogue orienting towards successful leaming/teaching process must find out pupils' motives that may be both positive and negative. Positive factors like example of parents and families, teacher's authority and competence, selected up- to - date teaching methods and measures determine positive motivation. Scientific, pedagogical literature and executed diverse researchers were mainly targeted to motivation of learning of other subjects; whereas art and technology learning motivation has not still been analysed. Perhaps partially the reason is that art and technology activity is related to practical activity and creation process but not to learning. But today unwillingness to work and motivation deficiency is extremely noticeable namely at these lessons. As a child grows up, his interest in art and technologies starts decreasing, it starts turning into not entertaining activity and finally becomes unnecessary. Very frequently senior grade pupils express opinion that it is not worth while spending time with handicrafts, because it is possible to buy everything. Such attitude is affected by changed way of life of contemporary society, decreased skill to perform such works and decreased demand to do everything himself because actually today it has become possible to acquire everything for money. This situation unveils many art and technology education problems. Aim is to find out the problems of motivation of art and technology learning at high school. Methods applied were the scientific literature analysis and questioning survey. Results. Pupils like art and technology subjects at high schools. These lessons are attractive to pupils when interesting and new technologies and techniques are presented and diverse and activate teaching/learning methods are applied. Most frequently occurring motivation problems are as follows: dull and insufficiently explained tasks, lack of time for their execution, relevant discipline and preparedness for lessons issues. Selection and application of appropriate methods and searching for technological innovations are very important for promotion of learning motivation at art and technology lessons.

Straipsnyje iš teorinių pozicijų aptariamas vienas svarbiausių šiuolaikinio meno aspektų - dalyvavimo tendencijos. Trumpai apžvelgiama šią problemą nagrinėjanti literatūra, jai nusakyti vartojamų terminų įvairovė. Straipsnyje siekiama įvardyti kai kurias teorines ir praktines šio reiškinio atsiradimo prielaidas ir pristatyti pagrindinius teorinius-kritinius požiūrius į dalyvaujamojo meno praktikas (Nicolas Bourriaud, Granto Kesterio, Claire Bishop), aptarti jų sąsajas ir skirtumus, iškelti trūkumus ir naujas problemas, su kuriomis susiduria tiek dalyvaujamojo meno teoretikas, tiek kritikas. Participation, involvement, sociability are the keywords more and more often applied to contemporary art. Art practices today turn more into dialogue, artist and audience collaboration, rather than being expression of individualistic experience, and art critiques therefore are induced to search for new critical criteria. While in West Europe discussions on participatory art practices have started already in the end of 90's, Lithuanian critics are still behind in using and questioning these theoretical positions. This article aims to present most vivid theoretical and critical approaches to participatory practices of contemporary art, to discuss relations and differences between these standpoints as well as their lacks, and to bring forward new questions and problems. Neither contemporary participatory art practices nor the need to deal with them theoretically arose in the last decade of ao* century: it was rather coherent continuation of changes throughout the history of art and aesthetic thought. The article starts with presentation of most important premises of the phenomenon - that of poststructuralist approach towards art-work, the dematerialization of art, institutional theory of art and Institutional Critique, and critique of art space. Attempts toward changing the relation between art institution and everyday life prompted artists to focus on the viewer, the mediator between these two social spaces, and to rethink her/his relation to the work of art. One of the key notions in participatory art theory today is the one of relational aesthetics by Nicolas Bourriaud - which is true also because of vast critique towards it. Bourriaud takes contemporary art for the field of researching and producing human interactions and its social context: art projects focus on their effect on public or this 'effect' is the work of art itself. Nevertheless the critics like Claire Bishop and Hal Foster criticize the notion of relational aesthetics and relational art due to its overall unconcernedness: participation for the participation's sake, relations for the relations' sake seem to be enough, while the real problems concerning social relations are left behind. Grant Kester meanwhile is interested in sociallyengaged art projects, which define dialogue as their aesthetic core, and the artist is taken for facilitator of the dialogue among diverse communities, and context provider. But Kester as well as other critics comes to the dead-end while attempting to judge dialogical art projects. Bishop calls this dead-end ethical turn, since aesthetical criterions are replaced by ethical ones, based on equality and democracy towards non-artist communities participating in the art projects. The artist is as far conceived as social worker, therapeutist, or cultural animator.These problems in art critique force us to doubt the use of this new genre system. Perhaps renounced to manipulate the terms like relational, participatory, community-based, dialogical etc. we can focus not on ihe participation itself, but on significant whole of the work of art and the contribution of participation to it. There can be however no doubt, that participatory aspects of contemporary artworks change the whole institution of art: the concept of the gallery, the exhibition format, curatorial role, the way artists work, art politics, art critic's way etc. - and these are still waiting for investigations. One more waymark for researchers is the need to look at post-communist countries in regard of their way of understanding community strategies in contemporary art field.

Straipsnyje aptariama indų tradicinės estetikos specifiniai bruožai. Daugiausia dėmesio skiriama tradicinės estetikos ir mitologijos bei religijos ir filosofinės metafizikos sąveikai, nagrinėjama šių kultūros universumo sričių įtaka indų estetinio fenomeno tapsmui. Remiantis konkrečių estetinių fenomenų analize, atskleidžiama indų estetikos ir meno santykis. Aptariama indų grožio metafizikos ir meno sampratos ypatumai. Article discusses the theoretical and practical preconditions and specific features of Indian traditional aesthetics. In the first part, by focusing on the interaction between aesthetics and mythology, religion and metaphysics, the article exposes the positive influence of mythology, religion and metaphysics upon the development of aesthetics. In the next part, the article considers the relations of Hindu aesthetics with art. The analysis of aesthetical phenomena shows the essential interdependence of both. Finally, the peculiarities of the concepts of pulchritude and art in Hindu aesthetics are concisely discussed.

Šio straipsnio objektas – pagrindinis 1937 m. Paryžiaus pasaulinės parodos Baltijos šalių paviljono Lietuvos ekspozicijos akcentas – Juozo Mikėno sukurta Rūpintojėlio skulptūra. Straipsnyje pasakojama 1937 m. Paryžiaus parodos Lietuvos ekspozicijos pagrindinio eksponato – Rūpintojėlio skulptūros – sukūrimo istorija, svarstomas galimas jo pirmavaizdis, kartu apibūdinami pagrindiniai XX a. ketvirtojo dešimtmečio Lietuvos kultūrinio konteksto bruožai. Šio straipsnio tikslas – nurodyti skulptoriaus Juozo Mikėno (1901–1964) kūrinio pirmavaizdį, atskleisti skulptūros sukūrimo aplinkybes ir priežastis, kurios lėmė Rūpintojėlio siužeto pasirinkimą. Rūpintojėlio siužeto pasirinkimą 1937 m. Paryžiaus pasaulinės parodos Lietuvos paviljono pagrindiniam eksponatui lėmė XX a. ketvirtojo dešimtmečio politinė ir kultūrinė situacija. XX a. 2–3 dešimtmečiais formuotas „Lietuvos – Rūpintojėlių šalies“ įvaizdis, ketvirtajame dešimtmetyje tapo nekvestionuojamu teiginiu. 1937 m. Paryžiaus pasaulinė paroda tapo vienu svarbesnių „etapų“ šioms idėjoms pasaulyje įtvirtinti. Nors tuometėje spaudoje būta kontraversiškų vertinimų, skulptoriaus Juozo Mikėno Rūpintojėlis ženklina ištisą tarpukario nepriklausomos Lietuvos kultūros epochą ir išlieka vienu svarbiausių skulptoriaus kūrybos darbų. Galimu J. Mikėno Rūpintojėlio pirmavaizdžiu laikytina 1936 m. Šiluvoje už Didžiojo altoriaus rasta nežinomo liaudies meistro drožta skulptūrėlė, kurios tolesnis likimas šiandien nežinomas. The object of the article refers to the main focus of the Lithuanian pavilion at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition, the sculpture of The Christ in Distress created by Juozas Mikėnas (1901–1964). The article explores the creation history of this exhibit as well as cultural circumstances of the given period which determined the choice of the main subject for that exhibit. The paper also specifies a possible prototype of the J. Mikėnas’ Christ in Distress sculpture. About 1936 a small sculpture of The Christ in Distress created by a folk artisan was found behind the High altar in Šiluva. According to the witness of this event Zigmas Toliušis, namely this sculpture carved by an unknown folk artist became the source of inspiration for the sculptor J. Mikėnas. The choice of The Christ in Distress subject for the main exhibit of the Lithuanian pavilion at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition was determined by the political and cultural situation of the fourth decade of the 20th century. The image of Lithuania as “the country of the Christ in Distress”, formed in the second and third decades of the 20th century, became an unquestionable affirmation in the fourth decade of that century. The 1937 Paris World Exhibition turned to be one of the major “stages” in consolidating these ideas in the world. Straipsnyje lyginami du kūriniai: Šatrijos Raganos apysaka Sename dvare ir Marcelio Prousto romanų ciklas Prarasto laiko beieškant. Jie labai skiriasi apimtimi ir priklauso skirtingoms literatūrinėms tradicijoms, tačiau panašios psichologinės kūrinių atsiradimo prielaidos, veik tapatus autorių gyvenimo laikas, rašymo intencijos, kūrinių struktūriniai bendrumai, kai kurios pasakojimo ypatybės suteikia pagrindą juos lyginti. Paralelių aptarimo aspektai: dėmesys vidiniam pasauliui, tragiškai išgyvenama egzistencinė patirtis, prarastojo (praėjusio) laiko prisiminimas, melancholiškas atsisveikinimas su aristokratija kartu ironizuojant jos tuštybę, siekis atkurti vaikystės "aukso amžių", nechronologinis siužetas, asociatyvus rašymas. The article provides a comparison of the story by Lithuanian writer Šatrijos Ragana (1877-1930) "In an Old Manor" and the novel by Marcel Proust "In Search of Lost Time". Though these masterpieces highly differ in size and belong to different literary traditions, similar psychological backgrounds, close writing intentions, type of composition, and some features of narrative serve as a sufficient basis for a typological comparison. Dimensions of the analysis include authors' attention to the inner world, a tragic feeling of human existence, memories of the past, melancholic farewell to the age of aristocracy and simultaneous irony to its vanity, glorification of art, absence of a chronological plot, associative writing, and an attempt at recreating the "golden age" of childhood.

Lietuvoje kūrybinės industrijos siejamos ne tik su šalies ūkio atgaivinimu, bet ir nauja - komunikacine - meno samprata, nauju požiūriu į menus ir menininkus bei jų vietą visuomenėje. Kūrybinėse industrijose palaikomas komunikacijos kaip reikšmių kūrimo ir keitimosi jomis požiūris - kaip pranešimai ar tekstai sąveikauja su žmonėmis, kad sukurtų reikšmes. Lietuvoje paplitusi romantinė meno koncepcija neskatina meno ir rinkos sąveikos. Nauja kultūros ir meno situacija neatsispindi Lietuvos švietimo institucijose: čia meno samprata dažniau yra siejama su įsitvirtinimu meno pasaulyje ir pripažinimu tarp profesionalų, o ne su meno galimybe tapti socialiniu ištekliumi, kūrybiško vartojimo objektu platesnei visuomenei. Ideas and beliefs about revitalising powers of creative industries recently became most popular in thinking about both regional problems and exigencies of society and business. Disclosure of the exclusive world of art - a panacea for creative industries - needs a shift in the approaches to arts and artists, their place in society and market, as well as efforts to conceive art not only as a closed world of autonomous aesthetic conventions, but also as a process of communication, including creative consumption concurrent with giving and taking the meaning. The emergence of creative industries was primarily related with business transmitting ideas, images and experiences, whose value is dependent on the subjective interpretation of meanings of symbolic goods. The romantic conception of "Art for art's sake” is still popular in Lithuania, upheld by educational institutions as well as by users and artists themselves. The conception does not embolden art integration into market nor the perception and use of art as a stock in creative industries. Culture policy is still based on the hierarchical notion of culture and sacred art, not including market development and the expansion of creative industries. The art and society seclusion may be seen in the Lithuanian educational system. Empirical research of general education, additional training schools and heads of subdivisions of art academies and faculties of art in other higher education institutions shows that the conception of art is more frequently associated with entrenchment in the "world of art” and peer acknowledgement rather than understanding art as a social stock or a means of communication. The process of art communication is still understood as transmission of elaborate aesthetic standards of taste and the endeavour of society which respectfully educates itself for the appreciation of art.

The expansion of new media and cultural globalisation influenced media art in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The social themes shared by many authors worldwide and cyber culture questions emerge. This prompted authors to study local societies and changes in them and examine their own cultural environment. The media art of the Baltic countries became an important producer of public discourse and this role is naturally connected with the origins of media art, its communication qualities and connections with information industries. This article examines work by Mare Tralla, Mindaugas Gapševičius, Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas, Kęstutis Andrašiūnas, Ando Keskkūla, Kiwa, Rasa and Raitis Šmit, Janis Garančs and Arvids Alksnis, whose work stand out from the rest. The work by these artists strives to engage society in a dialogue and actively participate in the creation of critical discourse. There is also an observed shift from creating cultural, social subject to the forming of cultural, social context. In the work of these artists the dialogue becomes the main strategy and key element. The examined work reflects an interdisciplinary point of view, and strives to connect art, politics, social spheres and critical thinking. In the end of 20"" c. - 21" c. mass media and interactive technologies became important originators of social relations and identity in the three Baltic states. Electronic existence of humans nearly erased the boundaries between public and private space and the real and invented identity. This and many other questions, like the change in Soviet group identity and the importance of gender identity are discussed in this article.

Straipsnyje aptariamas angelų sąlyčio su sielomis vaizdavimas mene, išskiriant žemiškąją žmogaus kelią, mirties momentą ir kelionę anapusybėn. Angelo svarba sielos gyvenime parodoma per besąlygišką Angelo Sargo gerumą ir pagalbą kiekvienai sielai, krikščioniškai teisingai nugyvento gyvenimo įvertinimą, matomą gėrio ir blogio konfrontacijoje, kuri vaizduojama šv. Arkangelo Mykolo paveiksluose. Ši tema analizuojama remiantis Lietuvos sakralinės dailės (XVI-XVIII a.) pavyzdžiais. Dauguma analizuojamų kūrinių anksčiau nebuvo plačiau tyrinėti. Nagrinėjami kūriniai atskleidžia nuolatinį transcendentinį angelo ir sielos ryšį, jo sklaidą ir pasireiškimą bažnytinėje dailėje, tačiau neatskleidžia šios tematikos kūrinių paplitimo Lietuvos bažnytinėje dailėje. The subject of this discourse is the kind of role angels have in the life of a soul at the moment of death as well in life beyond and its expression methods in art. It is shown in the paper how the implicit kindness and support of the Guardian Angel to an individual soul, the significance of rewards for living a true life is pictured through the confrontation of the good and evil in images with St. Michael Archangel. The subject is analysed with reference to some examples of sacral art of Lithuania of the 16th-18th centuries. The discourse is a preface, an introduction to a deep subject. The aim is to represent the journey of a soul and the contact with angels in a chronological order, from man's infancy to the attainment of salvation, thus showing the continual mysterious friendship with angels.

Darbo tikslas - apžvelgti propagandines priemones, kurias KGB pasitelkė prieš išeivius ir jų užsienyje vykdomą Lietuvos laisvinimo politiką. Sovietinė valdžia naudojo propagandą savo vidaus ir užsienio politikos uždaviniams įgyvendinti. Nuo septintojo dešimtmečio propaganda ir kiti viešąją nuomonę formuojantys veiksmai tapo viena svarbiausių KGB priemonių prieš kitaminčius šalies viduje ir lietuvių išeiviją Vakaruose. Ideologinėmis ir propagandinėmis akcijomis KGB siekė šių tikslų: pristatyti ir propaguoti sovietinę politiką ir ideologiją, Sovietų Lietuvos pasiekimus įvairiose srityse; pralaužti išeivijos vykdomą izoliacinę politiką ir patraukti išeivius prie Lietuvos; diskredituoti išeivijos veiklą, nukreiptą prieš SSRS; kiršinti išeivijos organizacijas tarpusavyje. Propaganda buvo skleidžiama per agentus ir žiniasklaidą. Naudotasi ir tokimis kultūrinio ir visuomeninio gyvenimo sritimis kaip turizmas, įvairūs kultūriniai renginiai, mokslinis ir kultūrinis bendradarbiavimas. Siekdamas sustiprinti savo akcijų poveikį, KGB bandė pasinaudoti žymiais tiek Lietuvos, tiek išeivijos veikėjais. KGB propagandinės akcijos tarp išeivių retai kada buvo veiksmingos, nors kartais saugumui ir pavykdavo pasinaudoti išeivijos nesutarimais. Vis dėlto KGB nepasisekė suskaldyti išeivių ir susilpninti jų Lietuvos laisvinimo kovos. Alternatyvūs informacijos šaltiniai Lietuvoje ir istorinė pačių išeivių patirtis leido jiems objektyviai vertinti prosovietinę tikrovę. One of the main tasks of Lithuanian KGB was to weaken, discredit and suppress political activity of Lithuanian émigrés to liberate Lithuania, to change their attitude toward Soviet Lithuania. Propaganda, the formation of positive public opinion about the Soviet system, politics, achievements and a negative opinion about émigrés were one of the main weapons against the political activity of émigrés. To form such public opinion, the KGB used mass media, tourism, and the Lithuanian language and literature courses at Vilnius University, science exchange, cultural activity, tours of Lithuanian artists to Western countries. Speeches of famous Lithuanians (some of them were forced to speak positively about Soviet achievements) and émigrés were also used by the Soviets as a means of propaganda. The return of the valuables of art was also used as propaganda, to set at variance the émigrés and to break their isolation policy toward Soviet Lithuania. Propaganda actions were politicized and used against the émigrés, since the time of their implementation coincided with the important émigré events. KGB developed wide propaganda actions against the world Lithuanian youth congress and the Baltic cruise of freedom and peace. It is difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of KGB actions due to the lack of objective sources. Although KGB paid great attention to propaganda activity, the results, however, were inadequate to their efforts.

Straipsnyje analizuojami vieno Vilniaus šlėktos – Mykolo Juozapo Römerio (1778–1853) kultūriniai interesai. M. J. Römeris buvo turtingas žemvaldys, valdė nuosavybę Trakų, Ukmergės pavietuose ir Vilniuje. Buvo išsilavinęs, ugdytas prisilaikant šlėktos tradicijų, tačiau paveiktas Apšvietos idėjų. Sulaukęs brandaus amžiaus daug bendravo su politiniu, visuomeniniu ir kultūriniu elitu. Užėmė postus šlėktų savivaldos institucijose, buvo Vilniaus gubernijos maršalas. Paliko turtingą archyvą – laiškus, dienoraščius, įvairius užrašus. Tai suteikia galimybę ne tik rekonstruoti jo biografiją, bet ir pažinti visuomeninį bei kultūrinį gyvenimą Lietuvoje XIX a. pirmojoje pusėje. Aptariami M. J. Römerio dienoraščiai, laiškai, poezijos ir prozos kūriniai, literatūrinės ambicijos, išryškinama jo lektūra (lenkų, rusų ir prancūzų kalbomis, publicistika bei knygos), pomėgis kasdien skaityti Šventą Raštą. Savo pomėgį piešti M. J. Römeris siejo su poezija ir retorika, vertino paprastumą ir realizmą. Dvarininkų elito domėjimasis kultūra vertintinas dvejopai: 1) sukurtiems literatūros ir meno kūriniams būdingas diletantizmas, jie buvo žinomi tik siauram ratui; 2) profesionalių kūrėjų darbams dvarininkai kėlė panašius kriterijus, kaip ir saviems – jie turėjo tarnauti pramogai, lavinti protą ir saugoti moralę. Notion of the term "culture" in a historical-anthropological sense. Forms of cultural activity of the Vilnius nobility as a social phenomenon (participation in socio-cultural associations, cooperation with periodicals, a phenomenon of salons). Forms of private cultural activities (literary and artistic pursuits, writing diaries and letters). Michał Józef Romer - the problem of typicality as a member of landowning elite. His attitude towards new forms of the nobility's culture of the early nineteenth century, participation in social and cultural life, his own creative activity, reflections of a culture consumer. A hypothesis: the cultural activity of the Vilnius nobility was based on the intermingling of social and private forms of culture. A characteristic feature was personal involvement of the landowning elite, although it would be wrong to tell that the border between dilettantism and professionalism was blotted out.

Remiantis bažnytiniais šaltiniais bei istoriografija, straipsnyje analizuojama Kelmės dekanato Pašilės bažnyčios istorija, joje esantys meno kūriniai ir liturginiai daiktai. Pirmoji Pašilės bažnyčia datuojama XV a. viduriu, duomenų apie ją neišliko. Bažnyčios inventoriuose rašoma apie 1781 m. statytą bažnyčią (ją fundavo vietos dvarininkas Jurgis Jucevičius), o šiai sunykus - apie 1883 m. klebono Justino Davidovičiaus pastangomis iškilusius maldos namus. Jie išliko iki mūsų dienų. Pašilės šv. Jurgio bažnyčia yra lotyniškojo kryžiaus plano, su dviem koplyčiomis. Virš paprastų formų pagrindinio fasado iškilęs neaukštas bokštelis su ornamentuotu kryžiumi. Bažnyčioje išsaugota XVIII a. antrosios pusės-XX a. pirmosios pusės dailės paminklų, kurie atspindi čia puoselėtas maldingumo formas, fundatorių ir vietos menininkų grožio sampratą. Didysis altorius, datuojamas 1865 m., yra harmoningas ir išraiškingas liaudiškas klasicizmo stiliaus imitavimo pavyzdys. Šv. Jurgio paveikslas tapytas XVIII a. paskutiniais dešimtmečiais. XVIII -XX a. datuojami bažnyčioje esantys drožiniai, metaliniai liturginiai daiktai ir indai. Tarpukariu bažnyčios šventoriuje iš akmenų buvo sumūrytas Lurdas su jame stovinčia Švč. Mergelės Marijos skulptūra, o 1933 m. ant mūrinio pagrindo pastatyta medinė koplytėlė, kurią įkelta Kristaus, nešančio kryžių, skulptūra. Nuo XIX a. Pašilės bažnyčios šventorių puošia vienatarpsnė į viršų siaurėjanti varpinė ir nesudėtingų formų koplytstulpis. Referring to the church sources and historiography the article analyzes the history of the Pašilė church of the Kelmė deanery and the pieces of art and liturgical items, existing in the church. The first church of Pašilė is dated the middle of the 15th century, no data on the church have remained. The church inventories provide records about the church, constructed in 1781 (founded by the local noble Jurgis Jucevičius) and about the meeting-house, built by the initiative of priest Justinas Davidovičius in 1883 after the former church withered. The latter church survived till the present day. St. George’s church of Pašilė is of the plan of the Latin cross with two chapels. The low tower with an ornamented cross rises above the simple forms of the main façade. Monuments of art of the second half of the 18th century – first half of the 20th century, which reflect the forms of godliness, nurtured there and the concept of beauty, nurtured by the founders and the local artists, remain in the church. The big altar, dated 1865, is a harmonious and expressive example of folk imitation of the classicist style. The painting of St. George was painted in the last decades of the 18th century. The carvings, metallic liturgical items and dishes are dated the 18th – 20th century. During the interwar period Lourdes with the sculpture of the Blessed Virgin Mary was made out of stone in the churchyard and in 1933 a wooden chapel was placed on the wooden basis, in which the sculpture of the Jesus Christ, carrying the cross, was placed. Since the 19th century the Pašilė churchyard is decorated by a one-level narrowing belfry.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjami kelių Rytų Baltarusijos karmelitų bažnyčių ansambliai, XVIII a. puošti sienų tapyba. Remiantis naujausiais restauratorių atradimais ir archyviniais šaltiniais, pateikiami įvairiapusiai duomenys apie išlikusį Bialyničių, Mogiliavo ir Mstislavlio karmelitų bažnyčių tapybinį dekorą: polichromija datuojama, keliamos prielaidos apie tapybą kūrusius dailininkus, apibūdinami siužetai, meninės tapybos ypatybės. Article summarizes information regarding the sources and materials concerning temple wall paintings of the 18th century. Information about the artists who worked in this region and the founders of the churches is presented in this article. Most of the attention is given to the decor of the Carmelite Convents of Byalynichy, Mahilyow and Mstsislaw. In the documents of the monastery of Byalynichy, mention is made of the painting of the walls and vault of the temple which were completed in 1760. Current investigators can access only fragments of the compositions painted with a gluing technique that decorated the walls of the stairwell of the monastery. During the restoration between 1986 and 1994 o f Mahilyow Church, the date of 1767 and barely legible signature of Januarij Szwabowicz, an artist and head of this monastery, was uncovered. The restorers of this church, apart from the decorative motifs, discovered compositions depicting scenes from the saints' lives, the foundation of Carmelite monks' and the affirmation of the Carmelite regulation. By decree of Catherine II in 1783 the Carmelite Church of Mahilyow turned into the residence of Stanislaw Bohusz-Siestrzencewicz, the metropolitan of the Belarusian Catholics. It is possible to conjecture that at that time the wall painting of the interior was renewed or that new painting cycles were created, the author of which apparently was A. Glovackis, a painter who worked in Mahilyow. The action depicted in these frescoes takes place against a background of architecture or sky which is framed by architectural elements that are painted illusionistically. The elements of the architectural decorations were executed following the rules of perspective illusion. The wall painting of the Mstislaw Church and the arrangements of its side altars are dated to the turn of the 6th and 7th decades of the 18th century by the author. The illusionistic retable of the high altar is characterized by its baroque forms. In the altar the Prophet Elijah, Carmelite monks and other Saints along with their attributes are depicted. Among the various compositions of the side walls we see the scene of the Mstislaw assault. This composition reflects events from the 1654 war with Moscow. The similarities between these discussed compositional solutions and some monuments in the surroundings of Lvov and Poland provide a precedent for certain plastic stereotypes that are related to the didactic treatment of this subject. At the same time, the aim to render the charm of the living natural or material world can be detected in these compositions. This tendency is most overt in the subjects associated with the history of the Carmelite Order; these are images that realistically reveal views of cities, the details of everyday life and elements of still-lives. Among those personages depicted, the portraits of the church founders and their coats of arms are most common. There is no doubt that this is due to the fact that the churches were built using money donated by local noblemen. In the wall painting of the Mahilyow Carmelite Church we can discover a rare self-portrait of the artist himself.

Lietuvoje Šv. Benedikto regulos vienuoliai savo pavyzdingu pamaldumu traukė prie Dievo paprastus žmones ir didikus. Benediktinų vienuolių pavyzdžiu tvarkėsi ir seserys benediktinės. Pirmasis benediktinių vienuolynas Lietuvos Didžiojoje Kunigaikštystėje buvo įkurtas Drohičine 1560 m. Dabartinės Lietuvos teritorijoje, Vilniuje, seserys benediktinės įsikūrė 1622 m. (jos turėjo Šv. Kotrynos bažnyčią), o 1627 m. - Kaune. Prie Kražių, tarp Kražantės ir kelio į Nemakščius, vieno valako dydžio sklype buvo įkurdintos šv. Benedikto regulos seserys iš Vilniaus. 1640-1641 m. buvo suręstas medinis vienuolynas su bažnyčia, kuriai suteiktas Švč. Mergelės Marijos Nekaltojo Prasidėjimo titulas. Benediktinėms paprašius, 1644 m. Aleksandras Liudvikas Radvila jų vienuolynui dovanojo sklypą. Remiamos geradarių, savo turtingais įnašais benediktinės ne tik išlaikė vienuolyną, bet ir mergaičių mokyklą su pensionatu. 1721 m. buvo pradėta statyti bažnyčia: vienanavė, su kvadratine presbiterija, abipus kurios šliejasi koplyčia ir zakristija. Prie vienos šoninės sienos pristatyta uždara galerija su laiptais, jungianti vienuolyną su vargonų choro tribūna. Bažnyčios plano schema ir ryšys su vienuolynu primena Vilniaus benediktinių Šv. Kotrynos bažnyčią. Nuo seserų zakristijos prasidėjo vienuolynas, jame refektorijus, virtuvė, kepykla, sandėlis ir po juo rūsys. Šonu į šį stovėjo kitas senas vienuolyno pastatas. XIX a. bažnyčia turėjo 5 altorius. Vienuolyno ir bažnyčios pastatai ne kartą restauruoti, kadangi politinių įvykių metu ne kartą nuniokoti. The monks of the regula of St. Benedict of Lithuania, by their exemplary godliness, attracted both simple people and nobles to God. The Benedictine nuns also behaved following the example of the Benedictine monks. The first Benedictine convent in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was founded in Drohiczyn in 1560 on the territory of the present-day Lithuania, the Benedictine sisters settled in Vilnius in 1622 (they had the St. Catherine’s church) and in 1627 – in Kaunas. The sisters of the regula of St. Benedict from Vilnius were accommodated on the plot of land of the size of one wallach in Kražiai, between the Kražantė and the road to Nemakščiai. In 1640-1641 the wooden convent with a church was constructed and given the name of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Upon the request of the Benedictines, in 1644 Alexander Ludwig Radziwill gave a plot of land for the convent. With the help of generous contributions by different nobles the Benedictines managed to support both the convent and a girls boarding-school. In 1721 the church was commenced to be constructed: one-nave with a square presbytery, on both sides of which there were the chapel and the sacristy. By one side wall a closed gallery with stairs was constructed, which connected the convent with the tribune of the choir at the organ. The layout plan of the church and its communication with the convent reminds of the St. Catherine’s church of Vilnius Benedictines. The sacristy started the convent with the refectory, the kitchen, the bakehouse, the warhouse and the cellar. Another old building of the convent existed at the side of the new one. In the 19th century the church had five altars. The buildings of the convent and the church were restored numerous times, since they were damaged as the result of different political events.

Darbas skirtas benediktinų dailės paveldui Pivašiūnų bažnyčioje. Autorė išskiria kelias benediktinų Pivašiūnuose sukurtas arba jų valdymo metu susidariusias maldingumo ir menines tradicijas. Svarbiausia iš jų ji laiko dar bažnyčios fundatoriaus valia pradėtą Švč. Mergelės ypatingo gerbimo tradiciją, labiausiai išreikštą Pivašiūnų Švč. Mergelės Marijos kulto sukūrimu ir plėtojimu. Kaip antrą ryškią tradiciją autorė pažymi benediktinų vienuolijos patriarcho šv. Benedikto ir kitų šio ordino šventųjų pagerbimą atlaidais, altoriais ir atvaizdais. Prie šios tradicijos ji šlieja ir ir kontitulinio bažnyčios šventojo šv. Jono Krikštytojo pagerbimą, jo altorių ir atvaizdų atnaujinimą. Aptardama menines tradicijas, autorė teigia, kad Pivašiūnų dailės paveldas ir benediktiniškosios jo tradicijos tarsi skyla į dvi skirtingas menines epochas apibrėžiančius periodus.Baroko laikotarpį, autorės nuomone, reprezentuoja nelabai daug kūrinių, tačiau beveik visi jie yra gero meninio lygio, dalis jau patekę į chrestomatinius Lietuvos dailės istorijos veikalus. Antrasis periodas – klasicizmo laikotarpis, pereinamojo stiliaus kūriniais pradėtas dar senosios bažnyčios egzistavimo laikotarpiu – raiškiai išsiskleidė pastačius naują savito plano bažnyčią. Jos altoriai, daugelis dailės kūrinių yra susiję su pagrindine Vilniaus šventove – katedra – ir Vilniuje dirbusiais iškiliais ir ne tokiais žinomais kūrėjais. Autorė mano, kad. Pivašiūnų bažnyčios klasicizmo laikotarpio dailės objektai skatina ieškoti naujų duomenų ir tikslinti tiek jų pačių istoriją, tiek jų kūrėjų biografijas. This work is devoted to the Benedictines’ artistic heritage at Pivašiūnai Church. The author singles out several pious and artistic traditions which were created by the Benedictines in Pivašiūnai, or which formed during their years there. She considers the most important of them to be the tradition of adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary that was begun at the will of the founder of the church and which is most expressed by the creation and proliferation of the Pivašiūnai Blessed Virgin Mary cult. The author notes the homage to St Benedict, the patriarch of the Benedictine monastery, and other saints of this order by way of feasts, altars and portrayals, as a second distinct tradition. She also attributes the homage to St John the Baptist, whom the church was also named after, and the renovation of his altars and images, to this tradition. In discussing artistic traditions, the author argues that it is as if the Pivašiūnai art heritage and its Benedictine traditions split into two periods that define different artistic eras. She feels that relatively few pieces represent the Baroque era, but all of them are of a high artistic standard, with some already included in chrestomathic works on Lithuanian art history. The second period - Classicism, which was begun with transitional style works when the old church still existed - flourished once the new, distinctively designed church was built. Its altars and many of the works of art are related to Vilnius’ main sanctum - the cathedral - and both prominent and less famous artists who worked in Vilnius. The author believes that the art from the Classicism period at Pivašiūnai Church prompts the search for new data and the clarification of the history of the pieces themselves as well as the biographies of their creators.

Kražių parapinė bažnyčia išsamiai aprašyta 1579 m. Tarkvinijaus Pekulo vizitacijos akte, vis dėlto vientisos parapinės bažnyčios raidos apžvalgos nėra. Kražiai buvo Žemaitijos seniūnų buveinė, parapinė bažnyčia turėjo Šv. Mykolo titulą. Senajai Kražių bažnyčiai sudegus, pastatyta nauja, kurią vyskupas pašventino 1475 m. Bažnyčia turėjo 7 altorius ir koplyčią, daug brangenybių. Tarp bažnyčios tarnų buvo ne tik vargonininkas, bet ir laikrodininkas. Gausiai aprūpinta Kražių bažnyčia su altarijomis XVI a. pradžioje tapo viena turtingiausių visoje Žemaitijoje. Keletui altorių taip pat skirtos nemažos fundacijos. Iki reformacijos net keli Kražių altoriai turėjo iš fundacijų išlaikomus kunigus. Kilus reformacijai dalis bajorų atsisakė išlaikyti altarijų kunigus, paveldėtojai altarijų fundacijas atsiėmė. 1638 m. Kražių parapinė bažnyčia sudegė, vėliau ji suremontuota. Pastatyta medinė ant mūrinių pamatų, kryžiaus plano bažnyčia, joje - nauji vargonai, penki altoriai, nemažai brangenybių, varpinėje - keturi varpai. Bažnyčia turėjo daug liturginių drabužių, 14 vėliavų, knygų. 1709 m. Kražių bažnyčia vėl sudegė, išsilydė garsūs varpai. Po kiek laiko atstatyta, viduje pastatyti 6 stalių darbo altoriai, 16 naujų ąžuolinių suolų. 1807 m. vėl gaisras, vėl vykdyti atstatymo darbai. Iškilo kryžiaus plano bažnyčia su 12 langų, priekyje ir gale 2 kupolai, lubos ir grindys iš lentų. Įsigyti ir nauji 14 balsų vargonai. 1941 m. birželį naciams užėmus Kražius, raudonarmiečiai miestelį smarkiai apšaudė iš artilerijos ir padegė. Taip baigėsi Kražių bažnyčios istorija - ji sudegė. Although the parish church of Kražiai has been comprehensively described in the act of visitation by Tarquinius Piculus, there is no integral overview of the development of the church. Kražiai were the town of Samogitian elders, the parish church had the title of St. Michael. After the old church was burned, the new one was built and consecrated by the bishop in 1475. The church had 7 altars, a chapel and a lot of jewels. The personnel of the church included an organist and a clock-man. The lavishly equipped church of Kražiai was among the richest in the entire Samogitia of the beginning of the 16th century. In addition, significant foundations were assigned for several altars. Prior to the Reformation, even several altars had priests, sustained from the foundations. Upon the Reformation a part of the nobles refused to sustain the priests and their heirs withdrew the foundations. In 1638 the parish church of Kražiai was burned, later it was reconstructed. A wooden church of a cross form was built on a stone foundation. The church had a new organ, five altars, significant amount of jewels, four bells in the belfry, a lot of liturgical clothing items, 14 flags and plenty of books. In 1709 the church was burned again and its famous bells smelted. After some time it was rebuilt, six wooden altars and 16 new oak benches were placed inside. In 1807 there was another fire, reconstruction works were performed once again and resulted in a cross plan church with 12 windows, two domes in the front and in the back, and wooden floor and ceiling. A new 14-tone organ was purchased. In June 1941, when Kražiai were occupied by the Nazis, the Red Army soldiers bombarded the town by artillery and burned it. Thus the history of the church of Kražiai ended – it burned down to the ground.

XV a. pabaigoje Karklėnuose buvęs dvaras, kuris 1499 m. atiteko didikams Šemetoms, o nuo 1527 m. buvo Žemaičių seniūno Stanislovo Stanislovaičio Kęsgailos valda. XVII a. Karklėnus valdė didikai Žukai, kurie dvarą perleido Šiukštoms. Daugelis rašę apie Karklėnų bažnyčią nurodo, kad 1767 m. Ignas Šiukšta Karklėnuose pastatė bažnyčią, kuri buvo Kražių jėzuitų vienuolyno altarija, o 1773 m. panaikinus jėzuitų ordiną, bažnyčia tapo Pašilės parapijos filija. Archyviniai dokumentai leidžia patikslinti, kad pirmoji bažnyčia Karklėnuose jau stovėjo XVIII a. pirmojoje pusėje, o Pašilės parapijos filija tapo pačioje XVIII a. pabaigoje arba XIX a. pradžioje. Tarp 1779 ir 1791 m. Karklėnų bažnyčia buvo perstatyta ir 1792 m. pašventinta. Joje buvo penki altoriai: didysis Šv. Baltramiejaus titulo, šoniniai - Dievo Motinos, Šv. Onos ir du Jėzaus Kristaus titulų. Dabartinė bažnyčia jau trečioji, statyta 1871 m. Ji kryžiaus plano, vienanavė salinė, liaudiško klasicizmo formų. Bažnyčios interjero puošybos elementai liudija ilgą ir turtingą maldos namų istoriją, kadangi čia yra XVIII-XX a. pirmosios pusės bažnytinės dailės paminklų. Seniausios jų - 1779 m. Rygoje I. A. Hecelio nulietas varpas, zakristijos bufetas, brolijai priklausęs Sopulingosios Dievo Motinos paveikslas ir keli mediniai kryžiai su Nukryžiuotųjų skulptūromis. Dabartinėje Karklėnų bažnyčioje vyrauja XIX a. antrosios pusės ir XIX a. pabaigos dekoro elementai. Didžiojo altoriaus puošyboje dar galima įžvelgti XVIII a. pabaigos dekoro elementų. Vertingas XIX a. antrosios pusės vietinės drožybos pavyzdys yra bažnyčios koplyčioje pastatyta Kristaus su nendre skulptūra. Keletas XVIII-XIX a. skulptūrų ir skulptūrinių grupių iki XX a. aštuntojo dešimtmečio puošusių bažnyčią šiandien yra dingusios. At the end of the 15th century Karklėnai had a manor, which, in 1499 was owned by the noble Šemeta family, and, starting from 1527, was the property of Samogitian elder Stanislovas Stanislovaitis Kęsgaila. In the 17th century Karklėnai was ruled by the noble Žukas family, who gave the manor to the Šiukšta family. Most of those who wrote on the Karklėnai church state that in 1767 Ignas Šiukšta built a church in Karklėnai, which was the altary of the Jesuit convent of Kražiai and in 1773, upon abolition of the Jesuit order, became subordinate to the Pašilė parish. Archive documents allow for verification that the first church in Karklėnai existed already in the first half of the 18th century and became subordinate to Pašilė parish at the end of the 18th or in the beginning of the 19th century. Between 1779 and 1791 the church was rebuilt and in 1792 consecrated. The church had five altars: the large St. Bartholomew’s altar, side altars – Our Lady’s and St. Anne’s and two Jesus Christ’s. The presently existing church is already the third one, constructed in 1871. The church is of the form of a cross and has traits of folk classicism. The interior decoration, with its monuments of church art of the 18th – the first half of the 20th century evidences its long and rich history. The oldest of the said monuments are the bell, made by I. A. Hetzel in Riga in 1779, the painting of Our Lady and several wooden crucifixes. The present church characterizes with decoration elements of the second half of the 19th century. Decoration elements of the end of the 18th century can still be noticed in the big altar. A valuable example of local carving of the second half of the 19th century is the sculpture of Jesus Christ with a cane in the chapel of the church. Several sculptures and groups of sculptures of the 18th – 19th century, which decorated the church till the seventies of the 20th century, have disappeared.

The focus is laid on his lectures of 1938, where he develops a new notion of aesthetics. We calls it the ‘aesthetics of the linguistic turn’. The area of such an aesthetics is the linguistic use of the word ‘beautiful’ in all possible situations. The article investigates different levels of this use and also discusses Wittgenstein’s – who had a certain artistic praxis –thoughts about real aesthetic activities. Straipsnyje aptariamos kontroversiškos įvairių islamo kultūros ir meno tyrinėtojų nuomonės, kaip ir kodėl turi būti aiškinami islamo civilizacijoje sukurti meniniai dirbiniai. Ar galima apskritai kalbėti apie islamo estetiką, arba sakyti, kad sufizmo idėjos visapusiškai paveikė islamo kultūrą? Požiūrių įvairovė liudija, kad vyksta savotiškas ideologinis karas, mėginant pagrįsti ir pateisinti pačias ekstravagantiškiausias interpretacijas. Tačiau, netgi sumenkinus sufizmo įtaką konkrečiai meno praktikai (nors toks sumenkinimas tėra atitinkamą pasaulėžiūrą skelbiančių tyrinėtojų hipotezė), neįmanoma paneigti, kad sufizmas turi savitą grožio teoriją, kylančią iš koraniškojo apreiškimo ir neoplatonizmo, pitagorizmo bei neoaristotelizmo mokymų sintezės, nors sufijai nerašė specialių estetikai skirtų traktatų, kadangi atskira emancipuota estetikos disciplina yra modernistinis naujųjų amžių išradimas. Straipsnyje nenagrinėjami konkretūs sufizmo estetikos bruožai, o tik keliama islamo ir islamiškojo meno santykio problema, kol kas neturinti aiškaus atsakymo. The article deals with the problems of Islamic and Sufi aesthetics in relation to Islamic art. In which respect this art may be regarded as Islamic, if, in fact, it is a prolongation of Byzantine and Iranian traditions? Can we speak about Islamic aesthetics at all and to which extent Sufism may be viewed as a provider of spiritual paradigms for Islamic art? All these questions are rised in the context of discussion between different attitudes and approaches, without providing of any final decision as regards Sufi theory of beauty and its influence on the formation and interpretation of Islamic artefacts.

Sodybų paminklų pagrindinė paskirtis - užtikrinti Dievo globą šeimai ir ūkiui. Kartu jie yra ir privataus pamaldumo ženklai. Būtinas buvo Jėzaus Kristaus ar Švč. Mergelės Marijos (dažnai ir abiejų), kaip pagrindinių tikėjimo asmenų, atvaizdas, sodybų paminkluose dažniausiai komponuojamas su kitų šventųjų statulėlėmis. Tai atspindi siekį turėti kuo daugiau namų, šeimos globėjų ir taip užsitikrinti visapusę namų apsaugą ir globą. Asmeninis pamaldumas nurodo ir bendrąsias liaudiškojo pamaldumo tendencijas. Dažnai sodybos paminklai jungė asmeninę ir viešąją erdvę - ypač tie, kurie buvo statomi darželyje prie gatvės ar prie įvažiavimo į sodybą. Šių erdvių atskyrimą rodo ir šventųjų atvaizdų komponavimas paminkle: į gatvę atsukamas šventasis, kuris labiau siejasi su visuotiniu pamaldumu - dažniausiai Jėzaus atvaizdas. Tai rodytų, kad Jėzus sodybų paminkluose siejamas daugiau su viešuoju, o ne su asmeniniu pamaldumu ir išreiškia universalų tikslą - visapusės Dievo globos užsitikrinimą. Gyvenamojo namo viduje kalbamos maldos daugiausia kreipiamos į Viešpatį Jėzų, įėjus į namus visada pagarbinamas Išganytojas, namuose švenčiamos pagrindinės religinės su Jėzumi susijusios šventės, čia dėkojama Dievui už malones ir teikiamas dovanas (maistą). Todėl neatsitiktinai gyvenamųjų būstų interjeruose vyravo Išganytojo atvaizdai - dažniausiai kryžiai su Nukryžiuotojo skulptūra, turintys didelę reikšmę šeimos apeigose. XX a. IV dešimtmetyje sustiprėjus liaudiškajam Jėzaus Širdies kultui, interjere įsitvirtino "Jėzaus Širdies" paveikslai. The main purpose of erecting cult sculptures in households was ensuring God’s care to the family and the household. In addition, they are symbols of individual devotion. In household sculptures, the most important religious images – Jesus Christ or Holy Mary (or both) – often were combined with the sculptures of other saints. This represents the aim to have as many household and family patrons as possible in order to ensure overall protection and care. Individual devotion reflects general tendencies of folk devotion too. Often, household sculptures joined private and public spaces, especially those that were erected in flower gardens, near the street, or near the entrance to the household. The separation of these spaces is expressed by the compositions of saints in sculptures: saints that were more related to public devotion, the most often Jesus Christ, were faced to the street. This shows that, in household sculptures, Jesus Christ was more related to public devotion than the individual, and expresses the universal purpose to ensure overall care of God. Prayers inside the house often were targeted to the Lord Jesus; visitors usually glorified the Saviour; the main religious festivals related to Jesus usually were celebrated at home; and home was the place all thanking God for his favour and gifts (food) delivered. Therefore the interiors of homes abundantly involved images of the Saviour, most often crucifixes, that played an important role in family celebrities. In 1930’s, after the development of the cult of the Sacred Jesus Hart, interiors of home were decorated with “Jesus Heart” images.

Tytuvėnų bernardinų ansamblis yra vienas įdomiausių ir didžiausių sakralinės XVII-XVIII a. architektūros kompleksų Lietuvoje. 2006 m. straipsnio autorė parengė knygeles lietuvių ir anglų kalbomis, plačiajai visuomenei populiariai apibūdinančias naujausius Tytuvėnų ansamblio tyrinėjimus. Kelios surastos naujos smulkios archyvinės žinutės šiek tiek praplečia ankstesnėse publikacijose nušviestą vaizdą. Ankstyviausios žinios apie Tytuvėnus šaltiniuose aptinkamos XVI a. pr., didžiajam kunigaikščiui Aleksandrui dovanojant žemes Vilniaus vaivados Aleknos Sudimantaičio dukrai Jadvygai. 1614 m. gegužės l d. A.Valavičius Tryškiuose surašė bernardinų vienuoliams skirtą aktą apie ketinimą funduoti vienuolyną Tytuvėnuose. Bažnyčios ir vienuolyno statyba bei vidaus įrangos darbai užtruko 17 metų. Per tą laikotarpį buvo pastatyta seniausioji ansamblio dalis - bažnyčia su šešių altorių ansambliu ir prie pietinio šventovės šono prišlietas vienuolyno pastatas, sudarantys uždarą keturkampį kiemelį - kluatrą. XVII a. Tytuvėnuose įsikūrusio bernardinų vienuolyno statiniai tapo gyvenvietės kompoziciniu centru, jos tūriniu akcentu, o vienuolių dvasinė, kultūrinė ir ūkinė veikla suformavo čia dvasinės traukos centrą. Visa tai paspartino ir paties Tytuvėnų miestelio augimą. Tytuvėnų ansamblis - neišsemiamas istorijos, kultūros, architektūros ir dailės paminklų lobynas, leidžiantis geriau suvokti ir įvertinti bernardinų kūrybai būdingas dvasines bei menines vertybes, šiuolaikiniame kraštovaizdyje atpažinti ir įvertinti išlikusią vienuolijų istoriją, kultūros ir meno paveldą. The Bernardine ensemble of Tytuvėnai is one of the biggest and most interesting complexes of Lithuanian sacral architecture of the 17th – 18th centuries. In 2006 the author of the article prepared booklets in Lithuanian and English languages, describing the newest studies of the Tytuvėnai ensemble to the general public. The several new small archive records discovered, to a certain extent, expand the view, presented in the previous publications. The earliest information on Tytuvėnai is found in the sources at the beginning of the 16th century when the Grand Duke Alexander Jagiellon gave land to Hedwig, the daughter of Vilnius voivode Alekna Sudimantaitis. On 1 May, 1614 A. Valavičius produced the act on his intention to fund a convent in Tytuvėnai, dedicated to the Bernardine monks in Tryškiai. The construction of the church and the convent and the internal installation works took 17 years. During the time period the oldest part of the ensemble, i. e. the church with the six altar ensemble was constructed and the building of the convent was constructed by the Southern side of the shrine, thus forming a closed rectangular yard. The structures of the Bernardine convent, which was erected in Tytuvėnai in the 17th century, became the compositional centre of the settlement, its accent and the spiritual, cultural and economic activities of the monks shaped a centre of spiritual attraction there. All of the aforementioned encouraged the growth of the Tytuvėnai town itself. The Tytuvėnai ensemble is an inexhaustible treasury of monuments of history, culture, architecture and art, allowing for better understanding and evaluation of the spiritual and artistic values, characteristic of the creative of the Bernardines and recognition and evaluation of the monks’ history, their cultural and artistic heritage, remaining in the modern landscape.

Studija skirta naujų pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais išryškėjusių poslinkių meno fenomeną tyrinėjančių mokslų sistemoje, ypač estetikoje ir meno filosofijoje, analizei. Šiandien jau tampa akivaizdu, kad dabartinėje kultūroje, humanistikoje, mene, įvairiose estetinius ir meno fenomenus tyrinėjančiose disciplinose atsiranda globalinių pokyčių, kurių pasekmės civilizacijos istorijai dar atrodo labai miglotos. Autorius aiškinasi, kaip dabartinėje estetikoje, meno filosofijoje vykstantys mokslinių žinių diferenciacijos ir integracijos procesai, naujos kultūros, socialinio gyvenimo, meno formos, teoriniai konceptai, tarpdalykinių tyrinėjimų sklaida, disciplinas skiriančių tradicijų nykimas veikia meno fenomeną tyrinėjančių mokslų struktūrą, pobūdį, metodologinį instrumentarijų, tyrinėjimo laukų sąveiką ir pagrindinių kategorijų pasaulį. The subject matter of the article is focused under influence of new forms of art. There are radical shifts in system of sciences about art. This clause is devoted to research of changes in system of sciences about art, in particular aesthetics and philosophies of art. In it is found out, what reasons influence processes of differentiation and integration of scientific knowledge in a modern aesthetics and philosophy of art, as destruction of traditional barrier between disciplines influences interaction of problem fields of research. The special attention is given knowledge of influence of new forms of art on change of methodological toolkit and strategy of researches of a modern aesthetics and philosophy of art. Therefore it constantly opens new fields which previously were marginal. It makes considerable advance in multiplication of aesthetic forms, decentralizes aesthetics ideals, appropriates “foreign” traditions, liberates itself from various theoretic conventions and aesthetic stereotypes and demolishes multifarious artificial boundaries between the different kinds of science and art.

Šiame straipsnyje bandoma gvildenti keletą etinio pobūdžio klausimų. Tačiau pastarųjų problematika skleidžiama savitų sociokultūrinių reiškinių — dailės terapijos ir psichoterapijos —fone, kuriame į vieną daugiareikšmę visumą supinami doroviniai, teisiniai ir estetiniai kontekstai. Tokia „sąjunga“ formuoja atitinkamą retoriką, kuri, autoriaus manymu, yra ypač įdomi introspektyviam žvilgsniui ir palanki įvairioms interpretacijoms. Atidžiau nagrinėjant vidinę šios retorikos sąrangą etines šiuolaikinės visuomenės dilemas galima pateikti kiek kitu, gal net netikėtu, požiūriu. Contemporary art therapy is a complex integrated unit of ideas and therapy practices that combines the various and often contradictory theoretical opinions, methodological approaches and practical methods of the activity. Contemporary art therapy is not a narrow and closed discipline as it directly involves the radical common-cultural changes of Western culture and the humanities of the second half of the XX century and the beginning of XIX century; changes which have affected the sphere of aesthetics, art philosophy, psychiatry, art psychology, the psychology of the processes of the artistic creation and art studies, ethics and many other disciplines. In this article and also aesthetics field are placed within the wider context of contemporary humanism and especially ethical context, in which many ethical truths of therapy appear in a wider postmodern philosophical context. There are several ways of thinking ethical truths in this context.

Straipsnyje apžvelgiama lietuvių istoriografija, skirta Lietuvos sąsajoms su Italija. Šios dvi geografiškai tolimos Europos valstybės puoselėjo glaudžius abipusius kultūrinius ir dvasinius ryšius. Neabejotina, kad ryšiai su Italija turėjo svarbią reikšmę Lietuvos kultūros ir meno raidai. Daugelis Lietuvos, Lenkijos ir Italijos mokslininkų domėjosi vertingu istoriniu paveldu, susiformavusiu nuo vėlyvųjų viduramžių iki šių dienų. Plati šios tematikos Lietuvos istorijos ir kultūros tyrinėjimų kryptis, apimanti skirtingas humanitarinių mokslų sritis, lietuviškoje istoriografijoje ėmė formuotis tarpukariu. Vėliau tyrinėjimai įgijo platų įvairialypį studijų spektrą, kuris išėjo net už Lietuvos ribų. Apžvelgiami Lietuvos ir Šventojo Sosto santykių, šventųjų kulto, renesansinio ir barokinio meno, humanizmo raidos, lietuvių kilmės jaunuolių studijų Italijoje XIV-XVIII a. tyrimai, itališkų XVI-XVII a. tekstų studijos, itališka tematika senosios Lietuvos raštijos tyrimuose, italų meno, muzikos, šalių prekybinių ryšių, kultūrinio ir mokslinio bendradarbiavimo ir kt. tyrimai. Istorikų, kultūros bei senosios literatūros ir meno tyrinėtojų, kalbininkų tyrimai tik patvirtina, kad Lietuva ir Italija niekada nebuvo praradusios ryšio: kultūrinio, meninio ar politinio-diplomatinio. Net sunkiausiu Lietuvos politinės egzistencijos laikotarpiu, neturint tiesioginių ryšių su Italija ar priėjimo prie jos archyvų, ši tema lietuvių istoriografijoje atsiskleisdavo pačiais įvairiausiais aspektais, pabrėždavo per šimtmečius susiklosčiusį gilų kultūrinį, o kartu ir diplomatinį ryšį tarp šių valstybių. The article overviews the Lithuanian historiography, dedicated to the relations between Lithuania and Italy. The said two countries, which are not close to each other geographically, nurtured close cultural and spiritual relations. Without any doubt the relations with Italy had significance to development of culture and art in Lithuania. Most Lithuanian, Polish and Italian scientists took interest in the valuable historical heritage, which shaped from the late Middle Ages till the present day. The wide direction of studies of the history and culture of Lithuania in terms of the subject, covering different areas of humanities, commenced its formation in the Lithuanian historiography during the interwar period. Later on the studies acquired a wide and diverse spectrum, which even exceeded the limits of Lithuania. The article overviews the studies of relations between Lithuania and the Holy See, the cult of saints, the Renaissance and the Baroque art, the development of humanism, the studies of young people of Lithuanian origin in Italy in the 14th – 18th centuries, the Italian texts, written in the 16th – 17th centuries, the Italian subjects in the studies of old Lithuanian writing, the Italian art and music, the trade relations between the two countries, the cultural and scientific cooperation, etc.. The studies, performed by historians, scholars of culture, old literature and art and linguists only evidence that Lithuania and Italy never lost their cultural, art related and political – diplomatic relations. Even in the hardest period of Lithuania’s political existence, with no direct communication with Italy or access to its archives, the subject revealed itself in Lithuanian historiography in most diverse aspects and emphasized deep cultural and diplomatic relations between the two states, which were shaped during the time period of several centuries.

The essay explicates a philosophical problematic of world whose basic characteristics are space, time and movement. It is argued that these characteristics are and have always been the transcendental conditions of all metaphysics, ontologies, sciences and even religions. Yet it is also the case that different civilizations and at different times have explicated these a priori conditions quite differently. This is obvious in artistic works which are used, in this essay, as ways of tracing such a priori structures and their sudden reinterpretations. Such leaps are coextensive with a transformed understanding of world wherein all things, events, and beings are explicated.

Vidsodžio parapijos ir bažnyčios istorija nėra sena. 1922 m. žemės reformos metu būsimai bažnyčiai paskirti 8 ha žemės, 1924 m. pastatyta klebonija, o 1925 m. - laikina bažnyčia kapinėse. Ji buvo Kuršėnų parapijos filija. Kunigo A. Ragažinsko rūpesčiu 1930 m. įkurta parapija. 1925 m. pasistačius laikinus maldos namus, tuo pačiu metu buvo planuojama naujos mūrinės bažnyčios statyba. Išliko architekto Antano Jokimo 1925 m. projektas, tačiau mūrinės bažnyčios projektas nebuvo realizuotas ir 1938-1939 m. pastatyti iki mūsų dienų išlikę mediniai maldos namai. Tuo rūpinosi tuometinis klebonas Zigmantas Syrius ir parapijiečiai, daug prie darbų prisidėjo ūkininkas Juozapas Raila (1861-1953), kuris vietos gyventojų vadintas "Vidsodžio bažnyčios statytoju". Medinė bažnyčia Vidsodyje yra lotyniško kryžiaus plano su vienu, pagrindinio fasado centre šiek tiek į priekį "ištrauktu" bokštu. Langai dekoratyviai praturtinti iš spalvoto stiklo sukomponuotais kryžiaus ženklais. Vidaus įranga rodo, kad bažnyčios išpuošimui buvo naudoti iš kitų aplinkinių bažnyčių įvairiu metu dovanoti seni dekoro elementai, liturginiai daiktai, o taip pat buvo užsakomi nauji dailės kūriniai. Prieš pat Antrąjį pasaulinį karą pastatyta bažnyčia matyt nebuvo pilnai įrengta, nespėti pastatyti stacionarūs altoriai. Galima daryti prielaidą, kad dalis bažnyčioje esančių puošmenų sukurta ar įgyta XX a. viduryje arba net antrojoje amžiaus pusėje. Bažnyčioje yra XVIII, XIX ir XX a. bažnytinės dailės paminklų. The history of the parish and church of Vidsodis is not old. During the land reform of 1922 eight hectares of land were granted for the future church, in 1924 the presbytery was constructed and in 1925 – a temporary church was erected in the graveyard. The church was an affiliate of the Kuršėnai parish. By the initiative of priest A. Ragažinskas in 1930 a parish was founded. In 1925, upon construction of the temporary meeting-house, construction of a new stone church was planned. There remained the project by architect Antanas Jokimas, prepared in 1925 however the project of the stone church was not implemented and in 1938-1939 a wooden church was constructed, which remains until the present day. The construction was taken care of by the priest Zigmantas Syrius and the congregation, farmer Juozapas Raila (1861 – 1953) also significantly contributed to the works and therefore was called “the church builder” by the local inhabitants of Vidsodis. The wooden church in Vidsodis is of the plan of a Latin cross with one tower, which is to a certain extent “pulled up” to the front at the centre of the main façade. The windows are decorated by the signs of cross, composed of coloured glass. The interior equipment shows that the old elements of decoration and liturgical items, given by other surrounding churches in different times, were used for decoration of the church, in addition new pieces of art were ordered. The church, constructed right before the WWII, was not fully equipped, stationary altars were not installed. One might assume that a part of the decorations, existing in the church was created or purchased in the middle or even in the second half of the 20th century. The church has monuments of church art dated the 18th, the 19th and the 20th century.
