Abstract

The magnetic ordering of the Mn spins in polycrystalline Nd0.45Ca0.55MnO3 was investigated using neutron diffraction and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. Three peaks around 260, 90 and 40 K were observed in the temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility. Analysis showed that the peak at 260 K was linked with the charge ordering of the Mn ions. Both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic couplings were found between the Mn spins. Interlayer coupling was ferromagnetic and the spin structure in the basal plane consisted of tilted ferromagnetic chains.

Abstract

Abstract

Ac magnetic susceptibility measurements have been used to study the magnetic responses of vacuum annealed polycrystalline Pb(sub2)Sr(sub2)PrCu(sub3)O(sub8) to a magnetic field. Diamagnetic responses in X(T) below 60 K were observed, indicating the occurrence of superconductivity. A well defined peak linked with the Pr spin ordering is also clearly seen at five K.

Abstract

The magnetic ordering of Ce ions in the heavy-fermion compound Ce(sub3)AI has been studied using neutron diffraction and specific heat measurements. Ce ions may be grouped into two types in the Ce-AI chain and the Ce-Ce chain. Transition at 2.2K was magnetic and linked to the ordering of the Ce spins, with only Ce ions in the Ce-AI chains involved in the ordering at 2.2K.

Abstract

Ac-susceptibility and neutron diffraction measurements of Pr in PrBaCu3O7 reveal the effect of Ga doping on the magnetic ordering. Increase in Ga concentration (x) decreases the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature. The Ga atoms replace Cu atoms in the CuO-chain layers, which causes the high ordering temperature of Pr. The spin arrangements becomes parallel when x is 0.08.

Abstract

Neutron-diffraction and ac-susceptibility measurements of the magnetic ordering of Pr ions in Pb2Sr2PrCu3O8 indicate a magnetic transition and a three-dimensional magnetic ordering of Pr spins below the Neel temperature. There is a stronger coupling between the Pr atoms than among the Tb atoms. Pr hybridization along the C axis depends on oxygen concentration, as is evident from short-range correlations between Pr spins.

Abstract

The magnetic ordering of Tb ions in polycrystalline Pb2Sr2TbCu3O8 is investigated by neutron diffraction methods. The investigation reveals considerable magnetic correlations at 10 K. Two-dimensional magnetic correlations indicate the presence of strong anisotropic magnetic reactions inside the crystals.

19th Australian Joint Conference onArtificial Intelligence, AI 2006 --4 December 2006 through 8 December 2006 -- Hobart, TAS -- As primary focus of banking regulation and supervision is being shifted toward internal risk management for all commercial banks, financial data mining task such as an early warning of bank failure becomes more critical than ever. In this study, we examine the effect of variable selection methods for intelligent bankruptcy prediction models. Moreover, an augmented stacked generalizer that utilizes diversified feature subsets during its learning phase is suggested as an effective ensemble method for promoting independencies among base prediction models. Empirical results show that the augmented stacked generalizer significantly improves overall predictability by reducing the more costly type-I error rate compared against both popular bagging and standard stacking procedures. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
