Benefiting from the guidance of scientific thinking, the diplomatic promotion of the head of state and the support of planning policies, China's concept of participating in Arctic governance cooperation has been continuously enriched, its ability has been continuously improved, and its international influence has been continuously expanded. The policy objectives of understanding, protecting, utilizing and participating in Arctic governance have been continuously implemented. After the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, the geopolitical and economic situation in the Arctic has undergone major changes, and multilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the Arctic Council are facing challenges. The trend of internalization of Arctic governance and the globalization of Arctic interests are intertwined. China's further participation in Arctic governance cooperation faces both a series of opportunities and challenges. We should accurately grasp the regular characteristics of the changing situation in the Arctic, combine safeguarding the common interests of all mankind with implementing China's Arctic policy, strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant parties in the fields of energy development, waterway management, scientific investigation and ecological protection, constantly explore new areas and opportunities for cooperation, actively build a blue partnership, promote the "Polar Silk Road" to achieve more positive results, and contribute more China's strength to promoting the sustainable development of the Arctic region. The purpose of this research paper is to illustrate the methodology of ʿilm uṣūl al-fiqh (the science of the fundamentals of Islamic jurisprudence) in arriving at al-ḥaqīqah ash-sharʿiyyah (the sharīʿah-established meaning), and to illustrate the routes of its identification. For ʿilm uṣūl al-fiqh regulates al-istidlāl (legal reasoning) in al-ʿulūm ash- sharʿiyyah (the sharīʿah sciences) and protects it from being tampered with. Among al-ḥaqāʾiq ash-sharʿiyyah (the sharīʿah-established meanings), I chose justice as an example because justice is the desire of all human beings, but nations and sects differ in the routes to identifying it. The methodology of ʿilm uṣūl al-fiqh is the pioneer of research methodologies in general and of the methodology of deduction in particular, and it is the ‘‘balance’’ (i.e., criterion) of this research on the routes to identifying justice. The nature of this research required that it consist of an introduction, two discussion sections, and a conclusion. The introduction: it includes definitions of the key terms of the topic The first discussion section: establishing the concept of justice based on the evidence from the Qurʾān, the Sunnah, al-iğmāʿ (scholarly consensus) and al-qiyās (analogical reasoning). It has four objectives: The first objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from the Holy Qurʾān. The second objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from the Prophetic Sunnah. The third objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from al-iğmāʿ. The fourth objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from al-qiyās. The second discussion section: establishing the concept of justice based on the evidence from qawl aṣ-ṣaḥābī (lit. a Companion’s statement: technically refers to the opinions and statements of the Companions arrived at by way of iğtihād i.e., independent reasoning), al- maṣlaḥah (lit. utility or interest or benefit: technically refers to the purposes of legal rulings and the intended utility of Islamic Law in general), and al-ʿurf (lit. custom or tradition: technically refers to what people customarily acknowledge and condone in a certain time and place). It has three objectives: The first objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from qawl aṣ-ṣaḥābī. The second objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from al-maṣlaḥah. The third objective: to establish the concept of justice based on the evidence from al-ʿurf. The conclusion: it contains the most important results. The research adopted the Inference which is appropriate for this research, because the paths to identifying justice can only be achieved through Sharia evidence, just as Sharia rulings can only be learned through Sharia evidence. Valence is a dominant semantic dimension, and it is fundamentally linked to basic approach-avoidance behavior within a broad range of contexts. Previous studies have shown that it is possible to approximate the valence of existing words based on several surface-level and semantic components of the stimuli. Parallelly, recent studies have shown that even completely novel and (apparently) meaningless stimuli, like pseudowords, can be informative of meaning based on the information that they carry at the subword level. Here, we aimed to further extend this evidence by investigating whether humans can reliably assign valence to pseudowords and, additionally, to identify the factors explaining such valence judgments. In Experiment 1, we trained several models to predict valence judgments for existing words from their combined form and meaning information. Then, in Experiment 2 and Experiment 3, we extended the results by predicting participants' valence judgments for pseudowords, using a set of models indexing different (possible) sources of valence and selected the best performing model in a completely data-driven procedure. Results showed that the model including basic surface-level (i.e., letters composing the pseudoword) and orthographic neighbors information performed best, thus tracing back pseudoword valence to these components. We analyze a new ethnographic and ethnohistoric database of quantitative cases (n = 139) and qualitative information on a neglected form of forager subsistence—communal drive hunts (CDHs)—using a human behavioral ecology perspective. Among our key findings are that (i) in specific contexts, CDHs achieve higher return rates or lower odds of failure than encounter hunting; (ii) CDHs increase the rate of success for hunting large ungulates that cluster and have long flight initiation distances and high predator escape velocities; (iii) CDHs engage the benefits and problems of collaborative, sometimes community-wide behavior at scales from the small and opportunistic to the large and institutionalized; (iv) although formerly commonplace, CDHs largely disappeared by the late nineteenth century because of colonial impacts on Indigenous societies and the adoption of repeating rifles and dogs, favoring encounter hunting; (v) cooperative hunting by great apes and indirect archaeological evidence suggest that collaborative hunting is potentially a practice of considerable antiquity and is thus important in the evolution of hominin prosocial behavior; and (vi) while human behavioral ecology has robust models for the analysis of the social distribution of subsistence resources, the development of complementary models for social production is just beginning. Purpose: To clarify the meaning of treatment adherence and identify its attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. Design: A concept analysis. Methods: Walker and Avant's method was used to analyze treatment adherence. PubMed, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library, and EBSCO databases were searched from 2013 to 2023. The PRISMA 2020 checklist was used. Results: Seventeen studies were included in this analysis. The defining attributes were the ability to comply with the treatment, consistency in the treatment plan, communication with the healthcare provider, and willingness to treat. Antecedents included multiple medicines, lifestyle changes, illness perceptions and beliefs, and long-term treatment. The outcomes included treatment success, improved long-term treatment, and improved clinical outcomes. Conclusion: Treatment adherence is a positive reaction of a patient to have the ability to comply with the treatment, consistency in the treatment plan, communication with the healthcare provider, and willingness to treat. This study proposes a detailed definition, attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents for treatment adherence. It is instructive to clinical nursing of treatment adherence, can be extended to various diseases, helps to improve clinical nursing practice regarding treatment adherence, and contribute to improving human health. Migrations are the result of a conglomerate of personal, economic, socio-political, administrative and geopolitical factors, which vary for each individual migrant. Young Africans arriving in Spain irregularly reflect a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, the reasons for which are briefly explained in this article. Migrations are inherent to human beings and can be explained, contextualised and managed as an opportunity for development, through bold and forward-looking public policies. Africa is a very young continent, with capacities and resources, with which it is necessary to collaborate and whose realities must be well understood before designing appropriate strategies. The purpose of this article is to analyze Dilthey's philosophical project. Our basic problem is why Dilthey wanted to constitute a theory of knowledge. Dilthey aimed to determine field of human sciences in terms of method by constituting a theory of knowledge. That is known as his philosophical project. He also criticized existing theories with a view to determining his own position. In this article, we will evaluate Dilthey's project in detail. German philosopher Wilhelm Dilthey has made significant contributions in human sciences in the 19th Century, for this reason, he is considered the prominent representative of the human sciences. Dilthey aimed to separate the human sciences from the natural sciences and to determine the autonomous field of the humanities and social sciences. Dilthey emphasizes this purpose in detail in his work titled The Formation of the Historical World in the Human Sciences, in which he attempts to ground the human sciences in terms of subject-matter and method. According to Dilthey, human beings have a life in which they become aware of their own existence. Hence, they participate in life with a view to understanding their existence. Dilthey thinks that inner experience can be understood historically, so he resorts to history in his theory of knowledge. He distinguishes between "Explanation" and "Understanding". According to him, while the concept of explanation belongs to natural sciences, the concept of understanding belongs to human sciences. Dilthey argues that there is the highest form of understanding. The highest form is to understand the whole itself which includes individual experiences by starting from individual experiences. According to him, best example of this form is hermeneutics. The Altai Mountains and the lands of Turkestan, where human existence dates back to ancient times, are known as ancient lands where the Turks' existence came to the stage of history. Turks engaged in agriculture as well as hunting in these lands. In this respect, the plants subject to the study have been known and used by the species since ancient times. In this study, there are different opinions about the origin of food, etc., which have been known by the Turks since ancient times. The names of the plants used in the fields such as hawthorn, barley, wheat, plum, onion and garlic are discussed. The use of these plant names in historical and contemporary Turkish dialects, their forms in old Turkish texts, Mongolian, Persian etc. It was examined by evaluating how they are used in different languages, how these names are handled in terms of etymology, and finally their origin. The difference of this study from similar studies is that old and new sources in many different languages were accessed, which gave the opportunity to look at the study from a much broader framework and made the evaluations more comprehensive. Christian philosophers often use moral agents to explain the existence of evil. The fall of human beings can be used in explanations of moral evil, and some have posited the existence of angels to explain natural evil. The latter proposal, which has been labelled "the Satan hypothesis," has faced substantial criticism. Here, I do not dismiss the Satan hypothesis, but present cosmopsychism, the idea that the universe is conscious, as an alternative way of using moral agents to explain natural evil for those skeptical of the Satan hypothesis. After introducing cosmopsychism into this debate and outlining how it can be used instead of the Satan hypothesis, I consider how it can provide an explanation of natural evil. This article interprets Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion in terms of two key notions integral to Paul Ricoeur's philosophical anthropology—the capable human being and mutual recognition—both of which have their analogues in the perennially acclaimed play. For Shaw and Ricoeur, the world would be a much better place if people practiced mutual recognition and its entailments. It is the best remedy, they believe, for healing the festering wounds that have brought civilization to the edge of the abyss. This paper provides a critical reflection and exploration of African development with reference to enhancing human flourishing in Amartya Sen's capability theory. However, we identify some core limitations to Sen's theory of development due to its reliance on neoliberal principles. These principles can be discouraging for African self-directed emancipatory development projects. We argue that the notion of communitarianism in Africa can provide alternative perspectives that can counter the influence of neoliberalism. We first delve into the philosophical understanding of development and the unique elements associated with the African context for human flourishing. From this understanding of development, we look into the work of Amartya Sen, whose capability approach is widely regarded as the optimal development project for human flourishing. However, the enhancement of capabilities has had some significant critique. We discuss three critiques of Sen's development project, namely, Martha Nussbaum's critique, which focuses on the vagueness of basic capabilities; Patrica Northover's critique, which argues that Western ideals of development compromise Sen's development project; and Richard Sandbrook's critique, which refers to Sen's approach as a "pragmatic neoliberalism". Species eradication is a common strategy in naturalisation processes. It is no longer just about conserving or protecting, but about eliminating "invasive" species that have no place in the "restored" socio-ecosystem. This type of process is more complex than it is often presented, and its consequences transcend the strictly techno-ecological dimension. To understand it better, we propose an approach that considers eradication as a process that encompasses multi-species relations, political implications, and an intrinsic socio-ecological character. Consequently, the analysis focuses on two phenomena that are linked to eradication: (a) local reflections on the functioning of socio-ecosystems; and (b) the reconfiguration of human/environment relations. To this end, we studied the effect of eradication on a specific socio-ecosystem, Floreana Island, focusing on the elimination of two specific species, goats and rats, which are truly diverse in terms of meaning and significance for the inhabitants of this small island in the Galapagos. Background: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common cause of goiter and acquired hypothyroidism in children after iodine deficiency. In this study, clinical and laboratory findings and follow-up results of children diagnosed with HT are presented. Methods: The data of cases diagnosed with HT between 2004 and 2022 in 2 centers in Erzurum were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Of the 81 children with HT whose ages ranged from 3 to 18 years (11.24 ± 3.72), 67 (82.7%) were girls and 14 (17.3%) were boys. The most common symptoms were neck swelling (37%), fatigue (23.5%), and hair loss (23.5%). There was a family history of HT in 12 cases (9.9%). Fifty-one (63%) of the cases were in the pubertal period and 30 (37%) were in the prepubertal period. There was no goiter in 36 (44.4%) of the patients, second degree goiter in 24 (29.6%), first degree goiter in 14 (17.3%), and third degree goiter in 7 (8.7%). Twenty-two (27.2%) of the cases were euthyroid, 27 (33.3%) were subclinical hypothyroidism, 23 (28.4%) were hypothyroidism, and 9 (11.1%) were hyperthyroidism. While 18 (22.2%) of the cases were followed up without medication, 59 (72.8%) were given levothyroxine and 4 (5%) were given methimazole. The mean follow-up time was 32.1 ± 33.7 months. Conclusion: The study's findings suggest that HT is more common in girls and occurs more frequently after puberty. A personal or family history of an autoimmune disease may be a warning sign for HT Additionally HT should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of children presenting with complaints of neck swelling, fatigue, and hair loss. Although the construction of the Giza necropolis necessitated the creation of an extensive array of metal tools, the significance of these early instances of metallurgy, and the contamination they left, has been overlooked in favor of understanding pyramid building techniques. We geochemically analyzed a sediment core from the Khufu harbor, on the Nile floodplain at Giza, Egypt, to track the construction of the necropolis, with a particular focus on copper contamination deriving from metallurgical activities. We found that significant local contamination occurred during the regnal years of Kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, consistent with metalworking during the preparation and construction of the edifices. While the pyramid complex led to the creation of an outstanding cultural legacy for humanity, it also marked the onset of significant human-caused metal contamination at Giza. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The cephalic index also known as the Cranial Index or Index of breath is an important parameter in craniometrical studies that help to differentiate human races and sex. It is a useful tool in forensic medicine, anthropology, and genetics. Aim and Objectives: - In the present study attempts have been made to discover the Cephalic index in males and females of Telangana. Material and Methods: - This study was carried out on 296 males and females of Telangana in the age group 20 - 25 years. Cranial length and breadth were taken and the Cephalic index was calculated. Results - The mean value for the cephalic index is 78.42 ± 6.75 for males and 81.14 ± 6.66 for females. Conclusions - The majority of the population in this study group is mesocephalic. Complete transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is the most common cause of cyanosis in the first week of life. Prenatal diagnosis helps with counseling, planning delivery, and postnatal management for resource‐rich health services. In a resource‐limited setting, postnatal diagnosis is the norm. This work examines cases of complete TGA in one center in Cambodia without prenatal testing. Twenty‐four cases were studied over 5 years. Complex TGA was frequently seen. The majority had normal coronary anatomy and arterial switch operation (ASO) was performed in most cases with a favorable outcome. Complete transposition of the great arteries is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease in the first week of life. Typically, the left ventricle is connected to the posteriorly placed pulmonary artery whereas the right ventricle gives rise to the anteriorly placed aorta. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The meaning attributed to progress in Western thought has also led to debates on whether progress will end after a point. On this subject, different philosophers have put forward various theories that end and even freeze history. Francis Fukuyama was one of those who thought that the "end of history" had come and the "last man" model had emerged. This thesis has caused long-term discussions in social sciences. Fukuyama has made studies supporting the "end of history and the last man" thesis in his various works. Fukuyama's thesis of "the end of history and the last human" has gained a different dimension with approaches on "post-human/post-human", especially with the technological developments at the beginning of the 21st century. Transhumanism is the most well-known of these approaches, which have the ideal of transforming human beings into a technological being. Fukuyama, who was not indifferent to this situation, made studies that rejected and had to reject the most important approach of his scientific life. Fukuyama is now concerned about the development of natural sciences and technology, which he praised in his "last man" thesis. Because the scientific and technological developments, which he thought created the "last human" model, turned towards the ideal of bringing the end of the known human being. East Africa boasts one of the longest histories of humankind. From hominid origins to the present, people have roamed, interacted with one another, and influenced the environment in innumerable ways. To teach about the archaeology of East Africa is to engage with the deepest history of humankind, from Hominin evolution to historical archaeology and the archaeology of listening. Each topic has developed its own peculiar and complex analytical methodologies that require varied resources and degrees of intensity and investment in training and mentoring. This review discusses advances made over the past two decades in the research and dissemination of archaeological knowledge about East Africa. Beyond the major issues that stimulate scientific research and debates, what debates have been settled? Objective: The role of lifestyle habits in patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) is comparatively underexplored. We aim to examine the specific lifestyle habits in patients with LPRD. METHODS: Systematic sampling was applied to select respondents aged 18 through 80 years in otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OHNS) clinics in Nan Fang Hospital during August 2017–July 2018, 1658 eligible participants were included by a systematic sampling method. Subjects with RSI score>13 were considered as LPRD patients. The risk of reflux symptoms was estimated and multivariate calculated as odds ratios in relation to exposure to tobacco smoking, alcohol, coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, chocolate, spicy food, night sleep time, dinner-to-bed time, subjective sleep quality, and physical exercise. Results: There was a significant dose-response association between carbonated beverage and LPRD. Among people who had drinking carbonated drinks the odds ratio was 1.76 (OR 1.77, 95% CI 1.24–2.50, P =.002) compared with non-carbonated drinker. A similar positive association was found for poor subjective sleep quality and shorter night sleeping time, the odds ratio for reflux was 1.58 (95% CI 1.14 to 2.18) among those who always have poor subjective sleep quality compared with those whose have good subjective sleep quality. The odds ratio for reflux was 2.29 (95% CI 1.23–4.28, P =.015) among those who always sleep 3–5 hours every night compared with those who sleep more than 8 hours every night. Beyond that, we found high BMI may have a negative correlation with LPRD, the odds ratio for reflux was.61 (95% CI 0.39 to.95, P =.054) among those whose BMI >25 kg/m2 compared with those BMI ≤ 20 kg/m2. Conclusions: Patients with LPRD may have certain lifestyle habits, avoid carbonated beverage, poor subjective sleep quality, and lack of sleep should be advised in treatment of LPRD. Importance: Epidemiological evidences regarding the association between whole grain intake and the risk of new-onset hypertension are still controversial. Objective: We aimed to investigate the relationship between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension and examine possible effect modifiers in the general population. Methods: A total of 10,973 participants without hypertension from the China Health and Nutrition Survey were enrolled, with follow-up beginning in 1997 and ending in 2015. Whole grain intake was assessed by 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. Multivariable hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression model after adjusting for potential risk factors. Results: During a median follow-up of 7.0 years, 3,733 participants developed new-onset hypertension. The adjusted HRs (95% CIs) were as follows: for quartile 2 (HR: 0.52; 95% CI: 0.47–0.57), quartile 3 (HR: 0.46; 95% CI: 0.42–0.51), and quartile 4 (HR: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.31–0.38), compared with quartile 1. Different types of whole grain types, including wheat (adjusted HR, 0.35; 95% CI, 0.32–0.39), maize (adjusted HR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.42–0.59), and millet (adjusted HR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.30–0.48), showed significant associations with a reduced risk of hypertension. The association between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension was stronger in individuals with older age (P for interaction < 0.001) and higher BMI (P for interaction < 0.001). Conclusion: Higher consumption of whole grains was significantly associated with a lower risk of new-onset hypertension. In this article, I shall outline a thought experiment aimed at reversing the relationship between bíos and zoē established by the anthropological machine. Giorgio Agamben resorts to the notion of "anthropological machine" to define the mechanism that produces the qualified life of human beings (bíos), through the inclusive exclusion of their biological life (zoē). My experiment does not render the exclusionary logic of the anthropological machine inoperative, but reverses the hierarchy it establishes between bíos and zoē. The result is what I shall call the machine of biologism, or simply the biological machine. If the anthropological machine establishes its perimeters of exclusion/inclusion on the grounds of bíos, the biological machine resorts to zoē. Thus, the biological machine does not operate according to the anthropological difference, which deems the human being as essentially not an animal, but according to what I shall define as the biological difference. Objective: This study assesses the prevalence, usage, and impact of remote/hybrid work in academic health science libraries in 2022 and 2023. Due to differences in survey distribution, we focus primarily on the results of the second survey. Methods: Researchers surveyed administrators at Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) member libraries in the United States in March 2022 and library staff at academic health sciences libraries in March 2023. Results: The first survey received 71 responses that met inclusion criteria. Ninety-five percent of respondents indicated that remote/hybrid work was allowed in their libraries. Majorities indicated that remote/hybrid work had a positive impact on morale (86%), recruitment (53%) and retention (67%). The second survey received 383 responses that met inclusion criteria. 78% of respondents indicated they were allowed to work remotely, and majorities indicated remote/hybrid work positively impacted work/life balance (75%), morale/job satisfaction (69%), likelihood of staying at their current institution (64%), and productivity/overall effectiveness (58%). Respondents were less likely to accept a fully onsite (45% unlikely) or fully remote (20% unlikely) position than a hybrid one (1% unlikely). In a list of 9 factors associated with recruitment, retention, and job satisfaction, only salary and benefits ranked higher than remote/hybrid work. Conclusions: Remote/hybrid work is common in academic health science libraries and highly valued by employees. While not without challenges, remote/hybrid work appears to be a valuable tool to support recruitment, retention, and job satisfaction of workers in academic health sciences libraries. In systems and network neuroscience, many common practices in brain connectomic analysis are often not properly scrutinized. One such practice is mapping a predetermined set of sub-circuits, like functional networks (FNs), onto subjects' functional connectomes (FCs) without adequately assessing the information-theoretic appropriateness of the partition. Another practice that goes unchallenged is thresholding weighted FCs to remove spurious connections without justifying the chosen threshold. This paper leverages recent theoretical advances in Stochastic Block Models (SBMs) to formally define and quantify the information-theoretic fitness (e.g., prominence) of a predetermined set of FNs when mapped to individual FCs under different fMRI task conditions. Our framework allows for evaluating any combination of FC granularity, FN partition, and thresholding strategy, thereby optimizing these choices to preserve the important topological features of the human brain connectomes. By applying to the Human Connectome Project with Schaefer parcellations at multiple levels of granularity, the framework showed that the common thresholding value of 0.25 was indeed information-theoretically valid for group-average FCs, despite its previous lack of justification. We used Poisson's linear regression to examine the association between racial bullying (RB) and the initiation of alcohol and tobacco uses after 9 months. Two cluster-randomized controlled trials were conducted in 2019 with children in grades five (girls: 50.0%; 10 years old: 82.0%; White: 36.8%; Black: 58.7%; others: 4.5%) and seven (girls: 49.5%; 12 years old: 78.1%; White: 33.2%; Black: 60.4%; others: 6.4%) from 30 public schools in the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. We restricted our analyses to 2 subsets of students in each grade: those who reported no lifetime alcohol use at baseline and those who reported no lifetime baseline tobacco use. At baseline, 16.2% of fifth and 10.7% of seventh graders reported suffering from RB in the 30 days before data collection. After 9 months, 14.9% of fifth graders started using alcohol and 2.5%, tobacco. Among seventh graders, the figures were 31.2% and 7.7%, respectively. RB predicted the initiation of use of alcohol (risk ratio [RR] = 1.36; 95% CI, 1.07-1.70) and tobacco (RR = 1.81; 95% CI, 1.14-2.76) among seventh graders, with race-gender differences, particularly in Black girls (alcohol: RR = 1.45; 95% CI, 1.07-1.93; tobacco: RR = 2.34; 95% CI, 1.31-3.99). Background: Effective interventions to improve patient outcomes in comorbid alcohol use disorder (AUD) and alcohol‐related liver disease (ARLD) remain a clinical unmet need. While the choice of abstinence is the cornerstone for the prevention of disease progression and mortality, evidence suggests a suboptimal engagement with treatment supporting recovery. This qualitative investigation aims to understand barriers and facilitators to treatment as experienced by this clinical population by applying a multidimensional adherence model proposed by the World Health Organization. Methods: Twenty‐four participants with comorbid AUD and ARLD were recruited from an inpatient clinical setting. Data for this study were collected through semistructured, in‐depth interviews. Deductive analysis was organized by the Framework method, and theory‐driven themes were identified according to the multidimensional adherence model. This included factors across the social and economic, patient, condition, treatment, and healthcare system levels. Results: The findings in this study indicate systematic challenges in maintaining continuity between primary, secondary, and community care. Aspects related to social and economic context, treatment, and healthcare systems were found to hinder engagement. Identified facilitators to engagement included the participatory role of family, shared lived experience of addiction/recovery, and therapeutic alliance with healthcare providers. Conclusion: The understanding of these barriers and facilitators from a service user's perspective can bridge the treatment gap for this clinical population. This can provide an opportunity for the implementation of effective interventions and inform the development of policies promoting accessible care. This paper argues that Book 3 of Porphyry's De abstinentia contains an overlooked argument in favor of vegetarianism for the sake of nonhuman animals themselves. The argument runs as follows: Animals are essentially sentient creatures. Sentience (αἴσθησις) allows them to discern what is good for their survival and what is destructive to them, so that they can pursue the former and avoid the latter. As a result, animals (human and nonhuman) have preferences, desires, and hopes. Having purposeful strivings that can be promoted or frustrated makes them recipients of justice and injustice. This means, for Porphyry, that animals, unlike plants, can be wronged since they are creatures that discern, and purposefully pursue, what is good or bad for them. This article elucidates a central but underexplored theme in Wollstonecraft's later writing: the distinction between the imagination and commerce. After the French Terror, Wollstonecraft begins to write of the imagination, rather than reason, as the defining feature of human nature. It is the imagination, she argues, that will enable the continuation of civilisational progress in the face of the retrogressive forces of commerce. This article argues that Wollstonecraft distinguishes between the two in accordance with three areas of concern: the distinction between humans and animals; the difference between higher and lower pleasures; the distinction between self-interest and social being. It also argues that Wollstonecraft's perspective in these three areas is shaped by her particular intellectual background, that is, by her reading of Rousseau, her civic humanism, and by her Socratic ethics. Studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on autistic children's psychosocial outcomes have shown mixed results. In the current study we aimed to gain a better insight into the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic by comparing psychosocial outcomes collected pre-pandemic with data collected during the pandemic. We used the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to examine change over time in psychosocial outcomes of autistic children from pre-pandemic (T0) to lockdown I (T1) and lockdown II (T2) in the Netherlands. We expected a deterioration in psychosocial outcomes. There were 224 participants in T0 and T1, of which 141 also participated in T2. The results showed a surprising improvement in psychosocial outcomes from T0 to T1. Special education and female gender were associated with increased difficulties over time, while higher age was associated with decreased difficulties. At the subdomain level we found that emotional problems remained stable, while hyperactivity, conduct problems, and peer problems decreased, and prosocial behavior increased. Attending special education predicted increased peer problems over time, while higher age predicted both decreased conduct problems and increased prosocial behavior over time. Generating human images from open-vocabulary text descriptions is an exciting but challenging task. Previous methods (i.e., Text2Human) face two challenging problems: (1) they cannot well handle the open-vocabulary setting by arbitrary text inputs (i.e., unseen clothing appearances) and heavily rely on limited preset words (i.e., pattern styles of clothing appearances); (2) the generated human image is inaccuracy in open-vocabulary settings. To alleviate these drawbacks, we propose a flexible diffusion-based framework, namely HumanDiffusion, for open-vocabulary text-driven human image generation (HIG). The proposed framework mainly consists of two novel modules: the Stylized Memory Retrieval (SMR) module and the Multi-scale Feature Mapping (MFM) module. Encoded by the vision-language pretrained CLIP model, we obtain coarse features of the local human appearance. Then, the SMR module utilizes an external database that contains clothing texture details to refine the initial coarse features. Through SMR refreshing, we can achieve the HIG task with arbitrary text inputs, and the range of expression styles is greatly expanded. Later, the MFM module embedding in the diffusion backbone can learn fine-grained appearance features, which effectively achieves precise semantic-coherence alignment of different body parts with appearance features and realizes the accurate expression of desired human appearance. The seamless combination of the proposed novel modules in HumanDiffusion realizes the freestyle and high accuracy of text-guided HIG and editing tasks. Eating in the absence of hunger (EAH) has been associated with overweight and obesity during childhood. The gold standard to assess this behavior is a laboratory-based protocol, but a questionnaire to assess EAH more efficiently in children and adolescents has been developed and validated in English. We assessed construct validity (structural and convergent validity) and reliability (internal consistency and temporal stability) of a French translation of the EAH Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents among French–Canadian youths. We recruited participants in Montreal (Canada) aged 7–15 years old, who completed the questionnaire and provided anthropometric data. We asked participants to complete the questionnaire a second time ∼4 weeks later. The questionnaire consists of 14 questions and 3 subscales that assess EAH due to negative affect, fatigue/boredom, and external cues. We performed an exploratory factor analysis to test the factor structure and we calculated Cronbach alpha coefficients and intra-class correlations to assess internal consistency and temporal stability, respectively. We assessed associations between EAH and BMI z-score using Pearson correlations. We included 196 participants (50% girls; mean (SD) 11.9 (2.3) years old) for the first completion and 153 for the second completion. The exploratory factor analysis generated the same three subscales as the original questionnaire: negative affect (α = 0.86; ICC = 0.78), fatigue/boredom (α = 0.75; ICC = 0.70), and external cues (α = 0.68; ICC = 0.54). Participant's BMI z-scores were positively associated with the average scores from the negative affect subscale (r = 0.19; ρ = 0.009). While cognitive theory has advanced several candidate frameworks to explain attentional entrainment, the neural basis for the temporal allocation of attention is unknown. Here we present a new model of attentional entrainment guided by empirical evidence obtained using a cohort of 50 artificial brains. These brains were evolved in silico to perform a duration judgment task similar to one where human subjects perform duration judgments in auditory oddball paradigms. We found that the artificial brains display psychometric characteristics remarkably similar to those of human listeners and exhibit similar patterns of distortions of perception when presented with out-of-rhythm oddballs. A detailed analysis of mechanisms behind the duration distortion suggests that attention peaks at the end of the tone, which is inconsistent with previous attentional entrainment models. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Studies note a high prevalence of pediatric coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-specific vaccine hesitancy in the United States. Our objective was to assess whether clinicians perceive a spillover effect of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy onto other vaccines, and the impact of this spillover on their general recommendation behavior. METHODS: We conducted semistructured interviews with pediatricians in California and Colorado pediatric practices (January--March 2023). We transcribed, coded, and analyzed interviews using content analysis. RESULTS: We interviewed 21 pediatricians (10 in California, 11 in Colorado). Clinicians observed some spillover effect of vaccine-favorable changes among some parents and greater hesitancy among others regarding the risks and benefits of childhood vaccination in general. This spillover was informed by 2 divergent patterns of parental trust in health systems and individual clinicians caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors driving perceived changes included media coverage, greater knowledge about vaccination, and misinformation. Some clinicians felt that their approach to vaccine recommendations became more patient-centered, whereas others reported declining engagement in persuading hesitant parents about vaccination. CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians described a hardening of parental views toward vaccines in both directions, which impacted their recommendation behavior. Human beings perceive the emotions of others through various cues, such as facial expressions, voice, and bodily posture. These social signals have been acquired evolutionarily, and reports suggest that emotions are recognized to some extent in a culturally universal pattern. It has also been suggested that an observer's approach or avoidance responses toward the expressor occur at the initial stage of emotion perception. However, such approach–avoidance reactions have hitherto been examined mainly in response to facial expressions and not bodily postures. Therefore, this study examined approach–avoidance responses to anger and fear as visualized through facial expressions and bodily postures. The study sample comprised 58 university students. The results showed that, as in a previous study, approach responses to fear and avoidance responses to anger were dominant in both facial expression and bodily posture conditions. Introduction: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) circuits may be changed during the run for multiple reasons; however, these circuit changes may be associated with adverse events. Predictors for undergoing a circuit change (CC) and their outcomes remain unclear. We hypothesized that neonatal and pediatric CC correlates with increased morbidity and mortality. Methods: Pediatric and neonatal patients who underwent one ECMO run lasting <30 days at a tertiary children's hospital from 2011 through 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Bivariate regression analysis evaluated factors associated with ECMO mortality and morbidity. LASSO logistic regression models identified independent risk factors for undergoing a CC. p <.05 was significant. Results: One hundred 85 patients were included; 137 (74%) underwent no CC, while 48 (26%) underwent one or more. Undergoing a CC was associated with longer ECMO duration (p <.001), higher blood transfusion volumes (p <.001), increased hemorrhagic complications (p <.001) and increased mortality (p =.002). Increased platelet (p =.001) and FFP (p =.016) transfusion volumes at any time while on ECMO were independent factors associated with undergoing a CC. Conclusions: Changing the circuit during the ECMO run occurs frequently and may be associated with poorer outcomes. Understanding the outcomes and predictors for CC may guide management protocols for more efficient circuit changes given its important association with overall outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The continuous emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern has rendered many therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) ineffective. To date, there are no clinically authorized therapeutic antibodies effective against the recently circulating Omicron sub-lineages BA.2.86 and JN.1. Here, we report the isolation of broad and potent neutralizing human mAbs (HuMabs) from a healthcare worker infected with SARS-CoV-2 early in the pandemic. These include a genetically unique HuMab, named K501SP6, which can neutralize different Omicron sub-lineages, including BQ.1, XBB.1, BA.2.86 and JN.1, by targeting a highly conserved epitope on the N terminal domain, as well as an RBD-specific HuMab (K501SP3) with high potency towards earlier circulating variants that was escaped by the more recent Omicron sub-lineages through spike F486 and E484 substitutions. Characterizing SARS-CoV-2 spike-specific HuMabs, including broadly reactive non-RBD-specific HuMabs, can give insight into the immune mechanisms involved in neutralization and immune evasion, which can be a valuable addition to already existing SARS-CoV-2 therapies. Isolation of a broad and potent neutralizing human monoclonal antibody which targets a conserved N-terminal epitope and neutralizes Omicron sub-lineages, including BA.2.86 and JN.1, offers insights into immune evasion mechanisms. This article elaborates on an artist-in-residence project funded by the Leverhulme Trust in the Geography Department at Durham University in 2015–16. The project confronted artistic and scientific perspectives to investigate how people in the North-East of England perceive and value their river environments and to recognize potential contributions to catchment management. The project identified a variety of disconnexions and hierarchies in the River Wear catchment and formulated artistic interventions for nonhuman audiences. This article reflects on water holistically and explores transdisciplinary views to propose water in its expanded field. Water in the Expanded Field is plural, complex, and aims at decentering the human importance. It promotes water multiple perspectives, including the more-than-human world and acknowledging water's ontological importance, developed by the speculative artistic practice of producing works of art for nonhuman audiences and then transposed to water debates. Purpose: To improve the quality of community health nursing practice, the learning outcomes of nursing students in community health nursing courses must be enhanced. Although the flipped classroom is considered an effective innovative teaching strategy, evidence of its application in community health nursing courses is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effects of a flipped classroom approach on community nursing competence, academic performance, course engagement, and learning satisfaction for a community health nursing course. Design: A quasi-experimental study design was adopted between September 2021 and January 2022. Methods: Two classes of nursing students (n = 92) from a 2-year nursing program at a university in Taiwan were recruited. The classes were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 50) that attended a flipped classroom and the control group (n = 42) that received traditional lecture-based instruction. Findings: Compared with the control group, the intervention group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in community nursing competence (p =.012) and significantly higher academic performance (p =.005). In addition, the course engagement and learning satisfaction of the two groups were high, but not significantly different. Conclusions: A flipped classroom can be an important strategy to enhance community nursing competence and academic performance. Background: People experiencing socio‐economic disadvantage face significantly higher rates of diet‐related health inequities. This study aimed to explore barriers, opportunities and potential solutions in providing food and nutrition services to people experiencing socio‐economic disadvantage from the perspective of services providers. The present study is part of a broad co‐design model to improve service provision for people experiencing socio‐economic disadvantage. Methods: A cross‐sectional online survey involving 33 open and closed‐ended questions was distributed to Australian governmental and non‐governmental organisations providing nutrition‐related support to people experiencing socio‐economic disadvantage aged 16 years and over. Data were analysed using frequency distributions and conceptual content analyses. Results: Sixty‐eight responses were analysed. Services are predominantly offered by charitable organisations (90%), funded through private donations (66%) and reliant on volunteers (100%). Barriers to supporting clients' nutrition needs include financial constraints, limited community engagement, understaffing, insufficient resources and knowledge gaps. Opportunities and solutions for enhancing support include increasing government funding, advocacy initiatives, stronger community collaboration and more holistic, customised services. Proposed recommendations include establishing purpose‐built facilities or wrap‐around services to expand access to health services, life skills, training and educational programs. Conclusions: Services face challenges including volunteer reliance, limited resources and inadequate government support, hindering food provision. Client barriers include transportation costs and lack of social support. With dedicated financial support, services can offer comprehensive assistance, including community spaces, staffing, health and social services and training. Community partnerships can maximise funding impact. Solutions must address overall well‐being and broader social determinants such as income inequality and housing. A common method for assessing blatant dehumanization asks participants to rate "how evolved" they think members of various social groups are using the Ascent of Human scale (AOH) that transitions in stages from a crawling ape to a fully upright modern human. However, little is known about how task instructions affect participant ratings. In this pre-registered study, participants saw alternative forms of instruction including the traditional instructions emphasizing "evolution", a prompt without any reference to evolution, and a prompt that clearly explained that the scale assesses dehumanization. Instruction type had no effect on dehumanization ratings on the AOH scale. These results support the idea that the AOH scale is a robust means of assessing blatant dehumanization. Abstract: The sit-to-stand test provides insight into age-related functional capacity; however, there are various variants of sit-to-stand, and we do not know which of these better discriminates against age-related functional capacity. Our study aimed to compare the age-related functional capacity in older people by evaluating sit-to-stand power variants, using young individuals as a reference. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 102 adults (57 women) aged 60–80 and 105 adults (54 women) aged 20–30. Participants performed five times sit-to-stand (5 sit-to-stand), 30-second sit-to-stand, and 1-min sit-to-stand. Z scores were obtained for each sit-to-stand variant using power (W), relative (W/kg), and allometric (W/m2 ) normalization methods. A mixed repeated-measures analysis of variance assessed the interactions among the sit-to-stand variants, normalization methods, sex, physical activity, and tobacco history. A significant interaction between sit-to-stand variants, normalization methods, and sex (P = 0.002) was found. The mean effect of sit-to-stand variants revealed that the 1-min sit-to-stand had the lowest Z score (P < 0.05). Significant variations were observed between sit-to-stand variants in all normalization methods for women (P < 0.001). However, in men, only the difference between 5 sit-to stand and 1-min sit-to-stand remained consistent across normalization methods (P < 0.05). This study investigated the correlations between social workers' levels of religiosity and their professional attitudes toward discussing sexual health. The focus was particularly on the potential mediating role of their attitudes to heteronormative beliefs. A random sample of 150 social workers from Israel (Jewish [63.3 percent], Palestinian-Arab [36 percent], and those who self-identified as "other" [0.7 percent]) completed a self-administered questionnaire. The findings revealed significant correlations among professional attitudes toward discussing sexual health, attitudes toward heteronormativity, and degree of religiosity. Social workers with higher levels of religiosity exhibited higher levels of heteronormative beliefs, which, in turn, influenced their professional attitudes toward discussing sexual health. Furthermore, the findings highlight the importance of challenging heteronormative perspectives for all social welfare service users. Social work must establish culturally sensitive training to challenge the hegemony of heteronormative perspectives while connecting to religious and conservative values and perceptions. There is prima facie evidence that Theophrastus naturalized nous to the extent that he spoke of it in naturalizing terms. But our evidence also suggests that Theophrastus accepted the reasons Aristotle had for excluding nous from the reach of natural philosophy. We show that, far from revealing an inconsistency on Theophrastus' part, this apparent tension results from a consciously adopted strategy. Theophrastus is developing one aspect of Aristotle's account of nous he found underdeveloped and feared might be misunderstood, namely the infrangible organic unity of the whole human being, including its nous. That is why he insists that nous , although 'from outside,' is 'grown together' with us, why he speaks of it as a nature (phusis), and why he insists that thought is a motion (kinêsis). This paper challenges this view by (1) drawing out the strong congruity between our 'best state' and that of the Prime Mover in Λ.7 and (2) removing certain key obstacles to a more inclusive reading of Λ.9: our thought is not limited to the 'human' kind (ho anthrōpinos nous , 1075a7), nor is our self-knowledge always a 'by-product' (en parergōi , 1074b36). Background: For mental disorders Mutual Aid Groups (MAG) have been proposed, however, these have lack of methodologies that approach the needs of young people. The aim of the present study was to determine the impact of MAG in rural and semi-urban environments, developed through poetry, on the improvement of mental health. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was carried out in Caldas, Colombia. 171 adolescents participated, divided into 10 MAG. Child Behavior Checklist 4–18 (CBCL/4–18) was used and the nuclear components of the MAG were applied, adding elements of introduction to poetry, creation and group rituals.
