Abstract Parasite biodiversity in cetaceans represents a neglected component of the marine ecosystem. This study aimed to investigate the distribution and genetic diversity of anisakid nematodes of the genus Anisakis sampled in cetaceans from the Northeast Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. A total of 478 adults and pre-adults of Anisakis spp. was identified by a multilocus genetic approach (mtDNA cox2, EF1 α − 1 nDNA and nas 10 nDNA gene loci) from 11 cetacean species. A clear pattern of host preference was observed for Anisakis spp. at cetacean family level: A. simplex (s.s.) and A. pegreffii infected mainly delphinids; A. physeteris and A. brevispiculata were present only in physeterids, and A. ziphidarum occurred in ziphiids. The role of cetacean host populations from different waters in shaping the population genetic structure of A. simplex (s.s.), A. pegreffii and A. physeteris was investigated for the first time. Significant genetic sub-structuring was found in A. simplex (s.s.) populations of the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea compared to those of the Iberian Atlantic, as well as in A. pegreffii populations of the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian Seas compared to those of the Iberian Atlantic waters. Substantial genetic homogeneity was detected in the Mediterranean Sea population of A. physeteris. This study highlights a strong preference by some Anisakis spp. for certain cetacean species or families. Information about anisakid biodiversity in their cetacean definitive hosts, which are apex predators of marine ecosystems, acquires particular importance for conservation measures in the context of global climate change phenomena.

IntroductionPatients with MS are MRI scanned continuously throughout their disease course resulting in a large manual workload for radiologists which includes lesion detection and size estimation. Though many models for automatic lesion segmentation have been published, few are used broadly in clinic today, as there is a lack of testing on clinical datasets. By collecting a large, heterogeneous training dataset directly from our MS clinic we aim to present a model which is robust to different scanner protocols and artefacts and which only uses MRI modalities present in routine clinical examinations.MethodsWe retrospectively included 746 patients from routine examinations at our MS clinic. The inclusion criteria included acquisition at one of seven different scanners and an MRI protocol including 2D or 3D T2-w FLAIR, T2-w and T1-w images. Reference lesion masks on the training (n = 571) and validation (n = 70) datasets were generated using a preliminary segmentation model and subsequent manual correction. The test dataset (n = 100) was manually delineated. Our segmentation model https://github.com/CAAI/AIMS/ was based on the popular nnU-Net, which has won several biomedical segmentation challenges. We tested our model against the published segmentation models HD-MS-Lesions, which is also based on nnU-Net, trained with a more homogenous patient cohort. We furthermore tested model robustness to data from unseen scanners by performing a leave-one-scanner-out experiment.ResultsWe found that our model was able to segment MS white matter lesions with a performance comparable to literature: DSC = 0.68, precision = 0.90, recall = 0.70, f1 = 0.78. Furthermore, the model outperformed HD-MS-Lesions in all metrics except precision = 0.96. In the leave-one-scanner-out experiment there was no significant change in performance (p < 0.05) between any of the models which were only trained on part of the dataset and the full segmentation model.ConclusionIn conclusion we have seen, that by including a large, heterogeneous dataset emulating clinical reality, we have trained a segmentation model which maintains a high segmentation performance while being robust to data from unseen scanners. This broadens the applicability of the model in clinic and paves the way for clinical implementation.

PurposeConventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can for glioma assessment be supplemented by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with radiolabeled amino acids such as O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine ([18F]FET), which provides additional information on metabolic properties. In neuro-oncology, patients often undergo brain and skull altering treatment, which is known to challenge MRI-based attenuation correction (MR-AC) methods and thereby impact the simplified semi-quantitative measures such as tumor-to-brain ratio (TBR) used in clinical routine. The aim of the present study was to examine the applicability of our deep learning method, DeepDixon, for MR-AC in [18F]FET PET/MRI scans of a post-surgery glioma cohort with metal implants.MethodsThe MR-AC maps were assessed for all 194 included post-surgery glioma patients (318 studies). The subgroup of 147 patients (222 studies, 200 MBq [18F]FET PET/MRI) with tracer uptake above 1 ml were subsequently reconstructed with DeepDixon, vendor-default atlas-based method, and a low-dose computed tomography (CT) used as reference. The biological tumor volume (BTV) was delineated on each patient by isocontouring tracer uptake above a TBR threshold of 1.6. We evaluated the MR-AC methods using the recommended clinical metrics BTV and mean and maximum TBR on a patient-by-patient basis against the reference with CT-AC.ResultsNinety-seven percent of the studies (310/318) did not have any major artifacts using DeepDixon, which resulted in a Dice coefficient of 0.89/0.83 for tissue/bone, respectively, compared to 0.84/0.57 when using atlas. The average difference between DeepDixon and CT-AC was within 0.2% across all clinical metrics, and no statistically significant difference was found. When using DeepDixon, only 3 out of 222 studies (1%) exceeded our acceptance criteria compared to 72 of the 222 studies (32%) with the atlas method.ConclusionWe evaluated the performance of a state-of-the-art MR-AC method on the largest post-surgical glioma patient cohort to date. We found that DeepDixon could overcome most of the issues arising from irregular anatomy and metal artifacts present in the cohort resulting in clinical metrics within acceptable limits of the reference CT-AC in almost all cases. This is a significant improvement over the vendor-provided atlas method and of particular importance in response assessment.

The accuracy of multi-frequency (MF) bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to estimate low muscle mass in older hospitalized patients remains unclear. This study aimed to describe the ability of MF-BIA to identify low muscle mass as proposed by The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) and The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP-2) and examine the association between muscle mass, dehydration, malnutrition, and poor appetite in older hospitalized patients. In this prospective exploratory cohort study, low muscle mass was estimated with MF-BIA against dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in 42 older hospitalized adults (≥65 years). The primary variable for muscle mass was appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM), and secondary variables were appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) and fat-free mass index (FFMI). Cut-off values for low muscle mass were based on recommendations by GLIM and EWGSOP-2. MF-BIA was evaluated against DXA on the ability to estimate absolute values of muscle mass by mean bias, limits of agreement (LOA), and accuracy (5% and 10% levels). Agreement between MF-BIA and DXA to identify low muscle mass was evaluated with sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value (NPV), and positive predictive value (PPV). The association between muscle mass, dehydration, malnutrition, and poor appetite was visually examined with boxplots. MF-BIA overestimated absolute values of ASM with a mean bias of 0.63 kg (CI: −0.20:1.46, LOA: −4.61:5.87). Agreement between MF-BIA and DXA measures of ASM showed a sensitivity of 86%, specificity of 94%, PPV of 75% and NPV of 97%. Boxplots indicate that ASM is lower in patients with malnutrition. This was not observed in patients with poor appetite. We observed a tendency toward higher ASM in patients with dehydration. Estimation of absolute ASM values with MF-BIA should be interpreted with caution, but MF-BIA might identify low muscle mass in older hospitalized patients.

Vitamin A is an essential micronutrient that is readily oxidized. In this study, the encapsulation of vitamin A palmitate (AP) within a core–shell carbohydrate matrix by co-axial electrospray and its oxidative stability was evaluated. The electrosprayed core–shell microcapsules consisted of a shell of octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) modified corn starch, maltose (Hi-Cap), and a core of ethyl cellulose–AP (average diameter of about 3.7 µm). The effect of different compounds (digestion-resistant maltodextrin, soy protein hydrolysate, casein protein hydrolysate, and lecithin) added to the base core–shell matrix formulation on the oxidative stability of AP was investigated. The oxidative stability of AP was evaluated using isothermal and non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Raman and Attenuated Total Reflectance–Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy methods. The core–shell carbohydrate matrix minimizes the amount of AP present at the microparticle surface, thus protecting AP from oxidation. Furthermore, the most effective oxidation protection was achieved when casein protein hydrolysate was added to the core of the microcapsule due to hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions with AP and by the resistant maltodextrin in the shell, which acted as a filler. The utilization of ethanol as a solvent for the dispersion of the core compounds increased the hydrophobicity of the hydrolyzed proteins and contributed to the enhancement of their antioxidant ability. Both the carbohydrate core–shell microcapsule prepared by co-axial electrospray and the addition of oxidation protection compounds enhance the oxidative stability of the encapsulated AP.

We performed a systematic evaluation of the diagnostic performance of LAFOV PET/CT with increasing acquisition time. The first 100 oncologic adult patients referred for 3 MBq/kg 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose PET/CT on the Siemens Biograph Vision Quadra were included. A standard imaging protocol of 10 min was used and scans were reconstructed at 30 s, 60 s, 90 s, 180 s, 300 s, and 600 s. Paired comparisons of quantitative image noise, qualitative image quality, lesion detection, and lesion classification were performed. Image noise (n = 50, 34 women) was acceptable according to the current standard of care (coefficient-of-varianceref < 0.15) after 90 s and improved significantly with increasing acquisition time (PB < 0.001). The same was seen in observer rankings (PB < 0.001). Lesion detection (n = 100, 74 women) improved significantly from 30 s to 90 s (PB < 0.001), 90 s to 180 s (PB = 0.001), and 90 s to 300 s (PB = 0.002), while lesion classification improved from 90 s to 180 s (PB < 0.001), 180 s to 300 s (PB = 0.021), and 90 s to 300 s (PB < 0.001). We observed improved image quality, lesion detection, and lesion classification with increasing acquisition time while maintaining a total scan time of less than 5 min, which demonstrates a potential clinical benefit. Based on these results we recommend a standard imaging acquisition protocol for LAFOV PET/CT of minimum 180 s to maximum 300 s after injection of 3 MBq/kg 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose.

Abstract Background Adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) possess a multitude of regenerative capabilities, which include immunomodulation, angiogenesis, and stimulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. However, the underlying mechanisms leading to ECM remodeling remain largely elusive and highlight the need for functional in vitro models for mode of action studies. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop an in vitro co-culture model to investigate the capabilities of ASCs to modulate fibroblasts and ECM. Methods An ECM in vitro model with ASCs and normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) was established utilizing macromolecular crowding, ascorbic acid, and TGF-β stimulation. Paracrine and juxtacrine co-cultures were created using transwell inserts and cell cultures with direct cell–cell contacts. The cultures were screened using RT2 PCR Profiler Arrays; the protein levels of myofibroblast differentiation marker alpha smooth muscle actin (αSMA) and ECM remodeling enzymes were analyzed using western blot on cell lysates; the formation of collagen type I, III, VI, and fibronectin was investigated using ELISA on culture supernatants; and the deposition of collagens was analyzed using immunocytochemistry. Results TGF-β stimulation of NHDF monocultures increased the expression of 18 transcripts relevant for ECM formation and remodeling, the protein levels of αSMA and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), the formation of collagen type I, III, VI, and fibronectin, and the deposition of collagen type I and VI and decreased the protein levels of MMP-14. Inclusion of ASCs in the ECM co-culture model increased the formation of collagen type I and III through paracrine mechanisms and the formation of collagen type VI through juxtacrine mechanisms. Conclusions The co-culture model provides effective stimulation of NHDF monocultures by TGF-β for enhanced formation and deposition of ECM. In the model, ASCs induce changes in ECM by increasing formation of collagen type I, III and VI. The obtained results could guide further investigations of ASCs’ capabilities and underlying mechanisms related to ECM formation and remodeling.

Objectives High-intensity interval training (HIIT) during pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may alleviate the symptom burden, but the fidelity and tolerability of HIIT using long or short intervals in patients with COPD are unknown.Methods Twelve patients with moderate-to-severe COPD were included in a randomised cross-over pilot study. They completed two supervised HIIT protocols (4×4 and 10×1). To compare the two HIIT protocols, completed training amount, exercise intensity and perceived tolerability (assessed by a 10-point Likert scale) were integrated in a red–amber–green rating system. If a training session received a red ranking, it was considered unacceptable, if it received an amber ranking it was applicable with precautions, and if it received a green ranking it was considered feasible.Results All patients completed the total training amount in both protocols. The 4×4 protocol resulted in three amber training sessions due to low perceived tolerability. The 10×1 protocol resulted in two red training sessions due to intensity reductions, and two amber training sessions because of low perceived tolerability. There was no statistical difference in perceived tolerability or time spent with an HR ≥85% of HRmax.Conclusions HIIT using longer intervals (4×4) at a relatively lower intensity resulted in higher fidelity expressed by fewer adjustments to the protocol, whereas there was no difference between protocols in perceived tolerance. The 4×4 protocol seems to have a higher fidelity compared with the 10×1 protocol in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.Trial registration number NCT05273684.

Purpose: The optimal choice of protocol for diagnostic imaging in children with tuberculosis (TB) is a contemporary challenge due to the war in Ukraine, which potentially can create a steep rise in TB cases in Western Europe. We aimed to gather all primary research comparing imaging modalities and their diagnostic accuracies for pulmonary findings in children with suspected or confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Method: We searched the databases PubMed and Embase using pre-specified search terms, for English- and non-English published and un-published reports from the period 1972 to 2022. We retrieved reports via citation search in excluded literature reviews and systematic reviews. Studies were eligible if most of the study population was between 0 and 18 years of age with confirmed or suspected PTB, and study participants had described diagnostic images from two or more different imaging modalities. Results: A total of 15 studies investigated conventional chest X-Ray (CXR) and computed tomography (CT) in diagnosing PTB in children. Nine studies investigated the number of participants in where CT or CXR confirmed the diagnosis of TB, and all of them, including a total of 1244 patients, reported that findings compatible with TB were more frequently detected on CT than CXR. Only two studies did not include radiological findings as part of their diagnostic criteria for PTB, and combined they showed that CT diagnosed 54/54 (100 %) children with confirmed PTB, while CXR diagnosed 42/54 (78 %). Two studies compared magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with CXR and showed that MRI diagnosed more children with PTB than CXR. One study reported a higher positive predictive value (PPV), sensitivity and specificity for PTB findings for MRI than CXR. One study compared CXR with high-kilovolt (high-kV) CXR, finding compatible sensitivity and specificity regarding confirmation of PTB. Two studies compared ultrasound (US) with CXR and found that US had a higher diagnostic yield and more often correctly identified consolidations, mediastinal LAP, and pleural effusion. Conclusion: CT showed a higher diagnostic accuracy for PTB findings than CXR, MRI and US, and should be the imaging modality of first choice when available. MRI had a higher sensitivity and specificity than CXR for LAP, pleural effusion, and cavitation. US was complimentary in initial diagnostic work-up and follow up. A diagnostic strategy for PTB in children according to local availability and expertise is proposed, as no evidence from this systematic review shows otherwise, in acknowledgement of the expertise in high TB-burdened countries. CT can be performed when in doubt, due to the higher diagnostic yield.

Background Camonsertib is a selective oral inhibitor of ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related (ATR) kinase with demonstrated efficacy in tumors with DNA damage response gene deficiencies. On-target anemia is the main drug-related toxicity typically manifesting after the period of dose-limiting toxicity evaluation. Thus, dose and schedule optimization requires extended follow-up to assess prolonged treatment effects. Methods Long-term safety, tolerability, and antitumor efficacy of 3 camonsertib monotherapy dosing regimens were assessed in the TRESR study dose-optimization phase: 160 mg once daily (QD) 3 days on, 4 days off (160 3/4; the preliminary recommended Phase II dose [RP2D]) and two step-down groups of 120 mg QD 3/4 (120 3/4) and 160 mg QD 3/4, 2 weeks on, 1 week off (160 3/4, 2/1w). Safety endpoints included incidence of treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs), dose modifications, and transfusions. Efficacy endpoints included overall response rate, clinical benefit rate, progression-free survival, and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-based molecular response rate. Results The analysis included 119 patients: 160 3/4 (n = 67), 120 3/4 (n = 25), and 160 3/4, 2/1w (n = 27) treated up to 117.1 weeks as of the data cutoff. The risk of developing grade 3 anemia was significantly lower in the 160 3/4, 2/1w group compared with the preliminary RP2D group (hazard ratio = 0.23, 2-sided P  = .02), translating to reduced transfusion and dose reduction requirements. The intermittent weekly schedule did not compromise antitumor activity. Conclusion The 160 3/4, 2/1w dose was established as an optimized regimen for future camonsertib monotherapy studies offering a substantial reduction in the incidence of anemia without any compromise to efficacy. Circadian rhythm (CR) disturbances are among the most commonly observed symptoms during major depressive disorder, mostly in the form of disrupted sleeping patterns. However, several other measurable parameters, such as plasma hormone rhythms and differential expression of circadian clock genes (ccgs), are also present, often referred to as circadian phase markers. In the recent years, CR disturbances have been recognized as an essential aspect of depression; however, most of the known animal models of depression have yet to be evaluated for their eligibility to model CR disturbances. In this study, we investigate the potential of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)‐treated animals as a disease model for research in CR disturbances in treatment‐resistant depression. For this purpose, we evaluate the changes in several circadian phase markers, including plasma concentrations of corticosterone, ACTH, and melatonin, as well as gene expression patterns of 13 selected ccgs at 3 different time points, in both peripheral and central tissues. We observed no impact on plasma corticosterone and melatonin concentrations in the ACTH rats compared to vehicle. However, the expression pattern of several ccgs was affected in the ACTH rats compared to vehicle. In the hippocampus, 10 ccgs were affected by ACTH treatment, whereas in the adrenal glands, 5 ccgs were affected and in the prefrontal cortex, hypothalamus and liver 4 ccgs were regulated. In the blood, only 1 gene was affected. Individual tissues showed changes in different ccgs, but the expression of Bmal1, Per1, and Per2 were most generally affected. Collectively, the results presented here indicate that the ACTH animal model displays dysregulation of a number of phase markers suggesting the model may be appropriate for future studies into CR disturbances. In this study, we present a polymer optical fiber fluorophore/aptamer competitive assay-based cortisol sensing principle. We developed a low-cost, two-fiber perpendicular design for fluorophore-based sensing with less input light interference and high output signal intensity. The design is suitable for narrow stokes shift fluorophores. We have demonstrated the cortisol sensing principle based on the competition between tagged and normal cortisol. To date, the sensing design has exhibited a slow response, and we identified possible modifications for improvement. Our estimation shows that with miniaturization and a modified sensor assay compartment design, a less than one-hour response time can be achieved. The reported sensing principle and low-cost new design will be helpful for the future development of fluorophore-based fiber optic aptasensors that can potentially be used in a wet environment for online sensing.

Chronic urticaria (CU) is a debilitating skin disease affecting around 1% of the population. CU can be subdivided into chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and chronic inducible urticaria (CIndU). Different pathophysiological mechanisms have been proposed to play a role in the development of CU, and these are also being investigated as potential biomarkers in the diagnosis and management of the disease. As of now the only assessment tools available for treatment response are patient reported outcomes (PROs). Although these tools are both validated and widely used, they leave a desire for more objective measurements. A biomarker is a broad subcategory of observations that can be used as an accurate, reproducible, and objective indicator of clinically relevant outcomes. This could be normal biological or pathogenic processes, or a response to an intervention or exposure, e.g., treatment response. Herein we provide an overview of biomarkers for CU, with a focus on prognostic biomarkers for treatment response to omalizumab, thereby potentially aiding physicians in personalizing treatments.

Within both society and education, economic and social entrepreneurship is considered to be of great importance. However, there appear to exist different and contradictory principles regarding the essence of this entrepreneurship. On the one hand, entrepreneurship is associated with economical concepts like competition, individual achievement and commodification. On the other hand, entrepreneurship is associated with collaboration, sharing and collective endeavors. The different notions and rationales represent a dilemma from an educational perspective, in the sense that the students may find themselves split between individual and collaborative methods and ideals. In this study, this dilemma is explored through a case study conducted in collaboration with students from the field of Social Education. The case study indicates that ambivalent notions about entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation entail a number of pedagogical challenges and produce occasional frustration among students. Especially, the students demonstrate different attitudes towards the concept of sharing ideas with their peers. At the end of the article, further educational implications of the study are discussed.

This article maps out existing research regarding the effectiveness of subject-integrated school garden teaching. The school subjects of interest are mathematics, languages and science, and subject integration is defined as a link between these subjects and school garden teaching. The article is based on an integrative review and is derived from existing research, which claims that teaching in school gardens has a predominantly positive influence on students' academic learning outcome. However, experimental studies indicate that some programmes are less effective than more traditional teaching in the subjects concerned. The review extracts and discusses factors that are consistently regarded as vital to ensure the effectiveness of school garden teaching in terms of the integration of mathematics, languages and science. It is concluded that developing a school garden curriculum is essential with a view to planning, carrying out and evaluating subject-integrated school garden teaching. The teaching should include experiential learning and hands-on activities as teaching methods, making the subject content less abstract, stimulating the students' senses, and increasing the feeling of meaningfulness. Furthermore, collaboration across subjects and links between indoor and outdoor teaching are central factors in ensuring the effectiveness of subject-integrated school garden teaching.

The expeditious progress of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSC) for therapeutic intervention calls for means to compare differences in potency of cell products. The differences may be attributed to innumerable sources including tissue origin, production methods, or even between batches. While the immunomodulatory potential of MSC is recognized and well-documented by an expansive body of evidence, the methodologies and findings vary markedly. In this study, we utilized flowcytometric analysis of lymphocyte proliferation based on cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells for quantification of the inhibitory effect of MSC. Technical aspects of fluorescent staining and cryopreservation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells were evaluated to obtain optimal results and increase feasibility. A range of common specific and unspecific mitogens was titrated to identify the conditions, in which the effects of Adipose tissue-derived Stromal Cells (ASC; a type of MSC) were most pronounced. Specific stimulation by antibody-mediated activation of CD3 and CD28 via TransAct and Dynabeads lead to substantial proliferation of lymphocytes, which was inhibited by ASC. These results were closely mirrored when applying unspecific stimulation in form of phytohemagglutinin (PHA), but not concanavalin A or pokeweed mitogen. The mixed lymphocyte reaction is a common assay which exploits alloreactivity between donors. While arguably more physiologic, the output of the assay often varies substantially, and the extent of proliferation is limited since the frequency of alloreactive cells is low, as opposed to the mitogens. To heighten the proliferative response and robustness, combinations of 2-5 donors were tested. Maximum proliferation was observed when combining 4 or more donors, which was efficiently suppressed by ASC. Several desirable and unfavorable traits can be attributed to the tested stimuli in the form of keywords. The importance of these traits should be scored on a laboratory-level to identify the ideal mitogen. In our case the ranking listed PHA as the most suited candidate. Developing robust assays is no trivial feat. By disclosing the full methodological framework in the present study, we hope to aid others in establishing functional metrics on the road to potency assays.

PurposeBrain 2-Deoxy-2-[18F]fluoroglucose ([18F]FDG-PET) is widely used in the diagnostic workup of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Current tools for uptake analysis rely on non-personalized templates, which poses a challenge as decreased glucose uptake could reflect neuronal dysfunction, or heterogeneous brain morphology associated with normal aging. Overcoming this, we propose a deep learning method for synthesizing a personalized [18F]FDG-PET baseline from the patient’s own MRI, and showcase its applicability in detecting AD pathology.MethodsWe included [18F]FDG-PET/MRI data from 123 patients of a local cohort and 600 patients from ADNI. A supervised, adversarial model with two connected Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) was trained on cognitive normal (CN) patients with transfer-learning to generate full synthetic baseline volumes (sbPET) (192 × 192 × 192) which reflect healthy uptake conditioned on brain anatomy. Synthetic accuracy was measured by absolute relative %-difference (Abs%), relative %-difference (RD%), and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). Lastly, we deployed the sbPET images in a fully personalized method for localizing metabolic abnormalities.ResultsThe model achieved a spatially uniform Abs% of 9.4%, RD% of 0.5%, and a PSNR of 26.3 for CN subjects. The sbPET images conformed to the anatomical information dictated by the MRI and proved robust in presence of atrophy. The personalized abnormality method correctly mapped the pathology of AD subjects while showing little to no anomalies for CN subjects.ConclusionThis work demonstrated the feasibility of synthesizing fully personalized, healthy-appearing [18F]FDG-PET images. Using these, we showcased a promising application in diagnosing AD, and theorized the potential value of sbPET images in other neuroimaging routines.
