A time projection chamber (TPC) with micropattern gaseous detector (MPGD) readout is investigated as main tracking device of the International Large Detector (ILD) concept at the planned International Linear Collider (ILC). A prototype TPC equipped with a triple gas electron multiplier (GEM) readout has been built and operated in an electron test beam. The TPC was placed in a 1 T solenoidal field at the DESY II Test Beam Facility, which provides an electron beam up to 6 GeV/c. The performance of the readout modules, in particular the spatial point resolution, is determined and compared to earlier tests. New studies are presented with first results on the separation of close-by tracks and the capability of the system to measure the specific energy loss dE/dx. This is complemented by a simulation study on the optimization of the readout granularity to improve particle identification by dE/dx., Comment: 29 pages, 30 figures, 6 tables. This paper develops the first question answering dataset (DrugEHRQA) containing question-answer pairs from both structured tables and unstructured notes from a publicly available Electronic Health Record (EHR). EHRs contain patient records, stored in structured tables and unstructured clinical notes. The information in structured and unstructured EHRs is not strictly disjoint: information may be duplicated, contradictory, or provide additional context between these sources. Our dataset has medication-related queries, containing over 70,000 question-answer pairs. To provide a baseline model and help analyze the dataset, we have used a simple model (MultimodalEHRQA) which uses the predictions of a modality selection network to choose between EHR tables and clinical notes to answer the questions. This is used to direct the questions to the table-based or text-based state-of-the-art QA model. In order to address the problem arising from complex, nested queries, this is the first time Relation-Aware Schema Encoding and Linking for Text-to-SQL Parsers (RAT-SQL) has been used to test the structure of query templates in EHR data. Our goal is to provide a benchmark dataset for multi-modal QA systems, and to open up new avenues of research in improving question answering over EHR structured data by using context from unstructured clinical data., Comment: 15 pages (including Appendix section), 7 figures

Anderson localization is a universal interference phenomenon occurring when a wave evolves through a random medium and it has been observed in a great variety of physical systems, either quantum or classical. The recently developed localization landscape theory offers a computationally affordable way to obtain useful information on the localized modes, such as their location or size. Here we examine this theory in the context of classical waves exhibiting high frequency localization and for which the original localization landscape approach is no longer informative. Using a Webster's transformation, we convert a classical wave equation into a Schr\"{o}dinger equation with the same localization properties. We then compute an adapted localization landscape to retrieve information on the original classical system. This work offers an affordable way to access key information on high-frequency mode localization.

Recent improvements in KG-to-text generation are due to additional auxiliary pre-training tasks designed to give the fine-tune task a boost in performance. These tasks require extensive computational resources while only suggesting marginal improvements. Here, we demonstrate that by fusing graph-aware elements into existing pre-trained language models, we are able to outperform state-of-the-art models and close the gap imposed by additional pre-training tasks. We do so by proposing a mask structure to capture neighborhood information and a novel type encoder that adds a bias to the graph-attention weights depending on the connection type. Experiments on two KG-to-text benchmark datasets show our models are competitive while involving fewer parameters and no additional pre-training tasks. The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) is a process in which neutrinos scatter on a nucleus which acts as a single particle. Though the total cross section is large by neutrino standards, CE$\nu$NS has long proven difficult to detect, since the deposited energy into the nucleus is $\sim$ keV. In 2017, the COHERENT collaboration announced the detection of CE$\nu$NS using a stopped-pion source with CsI detectors, followed up the detection of CE$\nu$NS using an Ar target. The detection of CE$\nu$NS has spawned a flurry of activities in high-energy physics, inspiring new constraints on beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics, and new experimental methods. The CE$\nu$NS process has important implications for not only high-energy physics, but also astrophysics, nuclear physics, and beyond. This whitepaper discusses the scientific importance of CE$\nu$NS, highlighting how present experiments such as COHERENT are informing theory, and also how future experiments will provide a wealth of information across the aforementioned fields of physics., Comment: contribution to Snowmasss 2021. This submission will focus on advancements and advantages of Micro Pattern Gas Detector (MPGD) technologies and their applications to the construction of a dedicated Time Projection Chamber (TPC) that can serve as an excellent main tracker for any multipurpose detector that can be foreseen to operate at a future lepton collider. The first portion of the report will be the executive summary. It will be followed by sections detailing the applications of MPGDs specifically to the construction of the LCTPC for the ILD at ILC, for a possible upgrade of the Belle II detector at SuperKEKB and for the design of a TPC for a detector at CEPC. MPGD technologies offer synergies with other detector R&D and several application domains; a few examples will be provided in the context of the ongoing Snowmass long range planning exercise in the USA. Quantum vortices are the quantized version of classical vortices. Their center is a phase singularity or vortex core around which the flow of particles as a whole circulates and is typical in superfluids, condensates and optical fields. However, the exploration of the motion of the phase singularities in coherently-coupled systems is still underway. We theoretically analyze the propagation of an interference dislocation in the regime of strong coupling between light and matter, with strong mass imbalance, corresponding to the case of microcavity exciton-polaritons. To this end, we utilize combinations of vortex and tightly focused Gaussian beams, which are introduced through resonant pulsed pumping. We show that a dislocation originates from self-interference fringes, due to the non-parabolic dispersion of polaritons combined with moving Rabi-oscillating vortices. The morphology of singularities is analyzed in the Poincar\'{e} space for the pseudospin associated to the polariton states. The resulting beam carries orbital angular momentum with decaying oscillations due to the loss of overlap between the normal modes of the polariton system., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

The Berry curvature provides a powerful tool to unify several branches of science through their geometrical aspect: topology, energy bands, spin and vector fields. While quantum defects -- phase vortices and skyrmions -- have been in the spotlight, as rotational entities in condensates, superfluids and optics, their dynamics in multi-component fields remain little explored. Here we use two-component microcavity polaritons to imprint a dynamical pseudospin texture in the form of a double full Bloch beam, a conformal continuous vortex beyond unitary skyrmions. The Berry curvature plays a key role to link various quantum spaces available to describe such textures. It explains for instance the ultrafast spiraling in real space of two singular vortex cores, providing in particular a simple expression -- also involving the complex Rabi frequency -- for their intricate velocity. Such Berry connections open new perspectives for understanding and controlling highly-structured quantum objects, including strongly asymmetric cases or even higher multi-component fields., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, 3 videos

In the quest for autonomous agents learning open-ended repertoires of skills, most works take a Piagetian perspective: learning trajectories are the results of interactions between developmental agents and their physical environment. The Vygotskian perspective, on the other hand, emphasizes the centrality of the socio-cultural environment: higher cognitive functions emerge from transmissions of socio-cultural processes internalized by the agent. This paper argues that both perspectives could be coupled within the learning of autotelic agents to foster their skill acquisition. To this end, we make two contributions: 1) a novel social interaction protocol called Help Me Explore (HME), where autotelic agents can benefit from both individual and socially guided exploration. In social episodes, a social partner suggests goals at the frontier of the learning agent knowledge. In autotelic episodes, agents can either learn to master their own discovered goals or autonomously rehearse failed social goals; 2) GANGSTR, a graph-based autotelic agent for manipulation domains capable of decomposing goals into sequences of intermediate sub-goals. We show that when learning within HME, GANGSTR overcomes its individual learning limits by mastering the most complex configurations (e.g. stacks of 5 blocks) with only few social interventions., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures

Many low-threshold experiments observe sharply rising event rates of yet unknown origins below a few hundred eV, and larger than expected from known backgrounds. Due to the significant impact of this excess on the dark matter or neutrino sensitivity of these experiments, a collective effort has been started to share the knowledge about the individual observations. For this, the EXCESS Workshop was initiated. In its first iteration in June 2021, ten rare event search collaborations contributed to this initiative via talks and discussions. The contributing collaborations were CONNIE, CRESST, DAMIC, EDELWEISS, MINER, NEWS-G, NUCLEUS, RICOCHET, SENSEI and SuperCDMS. They presented data about their observed energy spectra and known backgrounds together with details about the respective measurements. In this paper, we summarize the presented information and give a comprehensive overview of the similarities and differences between the distinct measurements. A stellar occultation by Neptune's main satellite, Triton, was observed on 5 October 2017 from Europe, North Africa, and the USA. We derived 90 light curves from this event, 42 of which yielded a central flash detection. We aimed at constraining Triton's atmospheric structure and the seasonal variations of its atmospheric pressure since the Voyager 2 epoch (1989). We also derived the shape of the lower atmosphere from central flash analysis. We used Abel inversions and direct ray-tracing code to provide the density, pressure, and temperature profiles in the altitude range $\sim$8 km to $\sim$190 km, corresponding to pressure levels from 9 {\mu}bar down to a few nanobars. Results. (i) A pressure of 1.18$\pm$0.03 {\mu}bar is found at a reference radius of 1400 km (47 km altitude). (ii) A new analysis of the Voyager 2 radio science occultation shows that this is consistent with an extrapolation of pressure down to the surface pressure obtained in 1989. (iii) A survey of occultations obtained between 1989 and 2017 suggests that an enhancement in surface pressure as reported during the 1990s might be real, but debatable, due to very few high S/N light curves and data accessible for reanalysis. The volatile transport model analysed supports a moderate increase in surface pressure, with a maximum value around 2005-2015 no higher than 23 {\mu}bar. The pressures observed in 1995-1997 and 2017 appear mutually inconsistent with the volatile transport model presented here. (iv) The central flash structure does not show evidence of an atmospheric distortion. We design planar silicon antennas for controlling the emission rate of magnetic or electric dipolar emitters. Evolutionary algorithms coupled to the Green Dyadic Method lead to different optimized geometries which depend on the nature and orientation of the dipoles. We discuss the physical origin of the obtained configurations thanks to modal analysis but also emphasize the role of nanoscale design of the LDOS. We complete our study using finite element method and demonstrate an enhancement up to 2000 of the magnetic Purcell factor in europium ions. Our work brings together random optimizations to explore geometric parameters without constraint, a first order deterministic approach to understand the optimized designs and a modal analysis which clarifies the physical origin of the exaltation of the magnetic Purcell effect., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures, research article

The aim of the SELENDIS project within the EDELWEISS collaboration is to observe single $e^- h^+$ pairs in lightweight (3.3 g) cryogenic germanium bolometers with charge and phonon readout at biases up to $\sim 100$ V. These devices are ideal to characterize in detail the mechanism of charge creation and collection in cryogenic germanium detectors. Electron-hole pairs are produced in the bulk of the detector either by the injection of pulsed IR laser or by neutron activation of germanium inducing the K, L and M lines from $^{71}$Ge electron capture decays. Low-energy laser pulses are also used to probe the single $e^- h^+$ pair sensitivity of Ge bolometers. Preliminary results are used to compare these two modes of charge creation, an important step toward a detailed characterization of Ge bolometers for their use in sub-MeV Dark Matter (DM) searches., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

Achieving a percentage-level precision measurement of the Coherent Elastic Neutrino Nucleus Scattering (CE{\nu}NS) spectrum requires a robust data processing pipeline which can be characterised with great precision. To fulfil this goal we present hereafter a new Python-based data processing pipeline specifically designed for temporal data analysis and pulse amplitude estimation. This pipeline features a data generator allowing to accurately simulate the expected data stream from the RICOCHET experiment at the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) nuclear reactor, including both background and CE{\nu}NS signals. This data generator is pivotal to fully understand and characterise the data processing overall efficiency, its reconstruction biases, and to properly optimise its configuration parameters. We show that thanks to this optimized data processing pipeline, the CryoCube detector array will be able to achieve a 70 eV energy threshold combined with electronic/nuclear recoil discrimination down to {\sim}100 eV, hence fulfilling the RICOCHET targeted performance.

The necessity to increase exposure in rare event searches experiments by maintaining a low energy threshold and a good energy resolution leads to segmented detectors as in EDELWEISS (Dark Matter), CUORE (0{\nu}\b{eta}\b{eta}) or RICOCHET (CE{\nu}NS) for example. However, the large number of sub-elements can dramatically increase the complexity of such detector arrays. In this work we report on our progress towards designing a flexible detector technology based on KID resonators evaporated on massive target crystals readout by a contact-less feed-line. Providing that we achieve O(100) eV energy threshold, such approach could easily be scaled to tens of kilogram detector arrays thanks to the intrinsic multiplexing capability of mKIDs. Using a 30 g silicon target absorber with Al/Ti multilayers for the KID resonator, we report a significant improvement of our detector response exhibiting a keV-scale energy resolution combined with the absence of position dependence on the event location. Indeed, compared to our previous work, we are now able to properly identify calibration lines from surface (20 keV X-rays) and bulk events (60 keV gamma rays). This significant improvement is an important step toward a better understanding of phonons and quasiparticles dynamics which is pivotal in optimizing this technology.

The RICOCHET reactor neutrino observatory is planned to be installed at Institut Laue-Langevin starting in mid-2022. The scientific goal of the RICOCHET collaboration is to perform a low-energy and percentage-precision CENNS measurement in order to explore exotic physics scenarios beyond the standard model. To that end, RICOCHET will host two cryogenic detector arrays : the CryoCube (Ge target) and the Q-ARRAY (Zn target), both with unprecedented sensitivity to O(10)eV nuclear recoils. The CryoCube will be composed of 27 Ge crystals of 38g instrumented with NTD-Ge thermal sensor as well as aluminum electrodes operated at 10mK in order to measure both the ionization and the heat energies arising from a particle interaction. To be a competitive CENNS detector, the CryoCube array is designed with the following specifications : a low energy threshold ($\sim 50$eV), the ability to identify and reject with a high efficiency the overwhelming electromagnetic backgrounds (gamma, betas, X-rays) and a sufficient payload ($\sim 1$kg). After a brief introduction of the future RICOCHET experiment and its CryoCube, the current works and first performance results on the optimization of the heat channel and the electrode designs will be presented. The RICOCHET reactor neutrino observatory is planned to be installed at the Laue Langevin Institute (ILL) starting mid-2022. Its scientific goal is to perform a low-energy and high precision measurement of the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) spectrum in order to explore exotic physics scenarios. RICOCHET will host two cryogenic detector arrays: the CryoCube (Ge target) and the Q-ARRAY (Zn target), operated at 10 mK. The 1 kg Ge CryoCube will consist of 27 Ge crystals instrumented with NTD-Ge thermal sensors and charge collection electrodes for a simultaneous heat and ionization readout to reject the electromagnetic backgrounds (gamma, beta, x-rays). We present the status of its front-end electronics. The first stage of amplification is made of High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) developed by CNRS/C2N laboratory, optimized to achieve ultra-low noise performance at 1K with a dissipation as low as 15 $\mu$W per channel. Our noise model predicts that 10 eV heat and 20 eVee RMS baseline resolutions are feasible with a high dynamic range for the deposited energy (up to 10 MeV) thanks to loop amplification schemes. We present an overview of recent progress towards the Ricochet coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering CE$\nu$NS experiment. The ILL research reactor in Grenoble, France has been selected as the experiment site, after in situ studies of vibration and particle backgrounds. We introduce EventNarrative, a knowledge graph-to-text dataset from publicly available open-world knowledge graphs. Given the recent advances in event-driven Information Extraction (IE), and that prior research on graph-to-text only focused on entity-driven KGs, this paper focuses on event-centric data. However, our data generation system can still be adapted to other other types of KG data. Existing large-scale datasets in the graph-to-text area are non-parallel, meaning there is a large disconnect between the KGs and text. The datasets that have a paired KG and text, are small scale and manually generated or generated without a rich ontology, making the corresponding graphs sparse. Furthermore, these datasets contain many unlinked entities between their KG and text pairs. EventNarrative consists of approximately 230,000 graphs and their corresponding natural language text, 6 times larger than the current largest parallel dataset. It makes use of a rich ontology, all of the KGs entities are linked to the text, and our manual annotations confirm a high data quality. Our aim is two-fold: help break new ground in event-centric research where data is lacking, and to give researchers a well-defined, large-scale dataset in order to better evaluate existing and future knowledge graph-to-text models. This paper looks at solving collaborative planning problems formalized as Decentralized POMDPs (Dec-POMDPs) by searching for Nash equilibria, i.e., situations where each agent's policy is a best response to the other agents' (fixed) policies. While the Joint Equilibrium-based Search for Policies (JESP) algorithm does this in the finite-horizon setting relying on policy trees, we propose here to adapt it to infinite-horizon Dec-POMDPs by using finite state controller (FSC) policy representations. In this article, we (1) explain how to turn a Dec-POMDP with $N-1$ fixed FSCs into an infinite-horizon POMDP whose solution is an $N^\text{th}$ agent best response; (2) propose a JESP variant, called \infJESP, using this to solve infinite-horizon Dec-POMDPs; (3) introduce heuristic initializations for JESP aiming at leading to good solutions; and (4) conduct experiments on state-of-the-art benchmark problems to evaluate our approach., Comment: Extended version of ICTAI 2021 paper

Rare-earth doped nanocrystals possess optical transitions with significant either electric or magnetic dipole characters. They are of strong interest for understanding and engineering light-matter interactions at the nanoscale with numerous applications in nanophotonics. Here, we study the $^5$D$_0\rightarrow ^7$F$_1$ transition dipole vector in individual NaYF$_4$:Eu$^{3+}$ nanorod crystals by Fourier and confocal microscopies. {Single crystalline host matrix leads to narrow emission lines at room temperature that permit to separate Stark sublevels resulting from the crystal field splitting}. We observe a fully magnetic transition and {low variability} of the transition dipole orientation over several single nanorods. We estimate the proportion of the dipole transitions for the Stark sublevels. We also determine an effective altitude of the rod with respect to the substrate. The narrow emission lines characteristic of NaYF$_4$:Eu$^{3+}$ ensure well-defined electric or magnetic transitions, and are thus instrumental for probing locally their electromagnetic environment by standard confocal microscopy.
