How crop biodiversity adapts to drought conditions and enhances grain yield became the most important issue facing agronomists and plant breeders at the turn of the century. Variations in genetic response, inadequacy of nutrients in the soil, and insufficient access to nutrients are factors that aggravate drought stressors. The development of screening tools for identifying drought tolerance is important in the deployment of durum wheat varieties suited to drought-prone environments. An experiment was conducted to evaluate durum wheat varieties under a range of nutrient supplies in naturally imposed drought conditions. The treatments consisting of two nitrogen regimes (i.e., control and 60 kg ha−1), four durum wheat varieties, and three types of nutrients (control, sulfur, and zinc) that were arranged in a split-split plot design with three replications. Both foliar-based sulfur and zinc fertilization were employed at the flag leaf stage, at a rate of 4 and 3-L ha−1, respectively. The results showed a significant (p < 0.05) genetic variation in chlorophyll concentration, grain protein content, tillering potential, and leaf area index. Varieties that contained better leaf chlorophyll content had improved grain yield by about 8.33% under 60 kg/ha nitrogen. A combined application of nitrogen and zinc at flag leaf stage significantly improved grain yield of Duragold by about 21.3%. Leaf chlorophyll content was found to be a more important trait than spikes per m2 to discriminate durum wheat varieties. Foliar application of sulfur increased the grain yield of drought-stressed plants by about 12.23%. Grain yield and protein content were strongly correlated with late-season SPAD readings. Significant (p < 0.05) correlation coefficients were obtained between normalized difference vegetation index, leaf area index, grain yield, and protein content with late-season chlorophyll content, revealing the importance of chlorophyll content in studying and identifying drought-tolerant varieties.

Synthesis of a series of the substituted [(pyridinyl and pyrimidin-2-ylimino)-ethyl]-4-hydroxy-chromen-2-ones and their tetrazole derivates is presented in this study. By catalytic condensation of 4-hydroxy-3-acetylcoumarine 2 and 2-aminopyridines 3(a-d), 3-[(pyridin-2-ylimino)-ethyl]-4-hydroxy-chromen-2-ones 4(a-d) are synthesized in high yield. During the condensation reaction of 2 and 4-amino-2,6-dihydroxypyrimidine 3e, 3-[1-(2,6-Dihydroxy-pyrimidin-4-ylimino)-ethyl]-4-hydroxy-chromen-2-one 4e as condensation products is synthesized. In following series, by cyclization reactions of compounds 4 (a-e) with sodium azide, analogue 3-substituted pyridin-2-yl and pyrimidin-2-yl-5-methyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-tetrazol-5-yl]-4-hydroxy-chromen-2-one 5(a-e) are synthesized the products. Structural characterization of the synthesized products is done on the basis of spectrometric data. Antibacterial activity of the compounds 4(a-e) and 5(a-e) against S. aureus, E. coli and Klebsiella was examined by measuring the inhibition zones around the disks marked with the corresponding products solution. The impact of substitutions in antimicrobial is also explored. Compounds with polar groups have shown significant antibacterial activity against these microorganisms.

In order to investigate the abiotic stress (drought) tolerance of oat (Avena sativa L.) with silicon and sulphur foliar fertilisation treatments, and monitor the effect of the treatments on the physiology, production, stress tolerance, plant, and grain quality of winter oat varieties, a field experiment was conducted in the growing season of 2020–2021. As a continuation of our article, published in another Special Issue of Plants, in this publication we evaluate the effect of silicon and sulphur treatments on the quality of winter oats. The whole grain sulphur content was significantly different between varieties. The foliar fertiliser treatments caused greater differences in both the carbon and nitrogen, and sulphur contents in the green plant samples, compared to the differences measured in the grain. Foliar treatments had a significant effect on the sulphur content of both plant samples and grains. Significant differences in the Al, Ba, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sr, and Zn contents of oat grains were measured, both between treatments and between varieties. Winter oat varieties did not respond equally to the foliar fertiliser treatments in terms of either macronutrient or micronutrient content. When P, K, Ca, Mg, and S were summarised, the highest values were in the control plots. Significant differences in protein content were identified between winter oat varieties in response to the treatments, but the varieties did not respond in the same way to different foliar fertiliser treatments. Based on our results, we recommend the use of foliar fertilisation in oats in drought-prone areas.

Abstract This study evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK), and pharmacodynamics (PD) of single and multiple oral doses of enpatoran (formerly named M5049), a new toll‐like receptor (TLR) 7 and 8 dual antagonist, and the effect of food on a single dose in healthy participants. In this single phase 1, randomized (3:1), double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study, 96 participants received single and multiple ascending oral doses of enpatoran. Participants in single‐dose cohorts received one dose of enpatoran (1, 3, 9, 25, 50, 100, or 200 mg) or placebo using a sentinel dosing strategy. Multiple‐dose cohorts received enpatoran (9, 25, or 200 mg once daily, or 25 or 50 mg twice daily) or placebo for 14 days. Safety, tolerability, PK, and PD (ex vivo‐stimulated cytokine secretion) were assessed in both parts. The effect of food was assessed in an open‐label, one‐way crossover study in the 25 mg single‐dose cohort. Single‐ and multiple‐oral doses of enpatoran up to 200 mg were well tolerated and no significant dose‐limiting adverse events or safety signals were observed under fasting or fed conditions. PK parameters were linear and dose‐proportional across the dose range evaluated, with a slightly delayed absorption and lower peak concentration observed at 25 mg with food. Exposure‐dependent inhibition of ex vivo‐stimulated interleukin‐6 secretion was observed, with maximum inhibition at 200 mg. Enpatoran was well tolerated at doses up to 200 mg. Further investigation of enpatoran is warranted as a potential treatment for diseases driven by TLR7/8 overactivation, such as systemic lupus erythematosus and COVID‐19 pneumonia.

This study was aimed for the evaluation of somatic cell count (SCC), physicochemical, and microbiological parameters during the end of lactation in the raw milk of Alpine and native Red goat breed. In the experiment, 102 milk samples from Alpine and native Red goats were included. Two different groups within the same breed were analyzed: a group consisting of animals in their first lactation and the second group consisting of animals from the fifth lactation. The milk samples were individually and daily collected during late lactation for three consecutive weeks, and milk fat, protein, lactose, SCC, and total bacteria with enterobacteria were assessed. Fresh milk of goats from late lactation period had a number of somatic cells (SC) within the expected value with log10 of 5.8–6.18 cells/ml for the compared groups. In both breeds, the total mesophilic bacteria were fewer in numbers, however, in the native Red goat, a larger population of such bacteria was enumerated. The number of coliforms and enterobacteria was below 100 cfu/ml. In the current study, we were able to show a significant difference among the studied breeds depending on lactation and season for fat (p = 0.002), but not for lactose and protein content. A positive correlation for total protein (TP), lactose, and fat as well as for lactose and SCC was found in the native Red goat breed. In the Alpine goat breed, a strong positive correlation (0.821**) was found for lactose and enterobacteria count (EC). In conclusion, these findings evaluate different goat milk parameters during late lactation period and provide an indirect measure to monitor goat mammary gland health for both breeds.

The objective of this study was to compare the fatty acid profile in different age categories of farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1792) collected from the aquaculture facility--cold-water fish farm "Trofta"--located in the Republic of Kosovo. Considering the results of the fatty acid profile, SFA participated with 25.76 % (I age group), followed by 25.67 (II), 18.28 % (III), and 18.46 % (IV). There is an evident decrease in the SFA content with increased fish age. Of those, the most dominant are palmitic fatty acids (16.13; 16.31; 10.68; 10.69, respectively). The content of MUFA is rapidly increasing with the ages (31.28 % - I; 29.14 % - II; 46.01 % - III and 46.39 % - IV). Of those, the most dominant is an oleic fatty acid with a double increase from the 8 - 9 to 12 -14-month-old fish (20.03 %; 18.21 %; 39.41 %; 40.48 %, respectively). PUFA participates with an average of 40.00 % in total fatty acid content, from which, the most dominant at the 8- and 9-monthold fish is cervonic fatty acid (27.68 and 30.40 %, respectively), with an evident decrease at 12- and 14-months fish (10.53 and 8.52 %, respectively). The biggest increase is determined in linoleic acid, starting with 4.95 and 4.22 % at 8 and 9-month-old fish, while the content at 12 and 14-month-old fish was enormously higher (14.73 and 16.70 %, respectively). Last decade in Kosovo fuel oil it was used as a primary combustion heating material in most of public institutions, schools, powerplants etc. Our research focus is to characterize chemical composition of fuel oil before combustion by FTIR –Spectroscopy and other conventional physico-chemical parameters. Investigated results confirms high level of pollutants such as aromatic compounds, sulphur compounds and other oxygenated compounds based on their chemical analysis by different methods. This investigations suggest removing fuel oil from direct application as a combustion material and initiate investigation for separation of their components for different kind of application.

The main institution in Kosovo that deals with the execution of criminal sanctions and it is Kosovo Correctional Service (KCS). Since its establishment, this institution has undergone numerous changes in the organizational field, as well as changes created by legal regulation. The recent trends occurring in correctional services in democratic societies have transformed these services in order to have a human approach and, in several cases constitute a decisive factor in the change in the behaviour of delinquents. Delinquents that have been convicted for serious crimes by criminal proceedings of final judgment, in order to rehabilitate through based programs on contents of rehabilitation, resettlement, and reintegration used a various method which will be treated in this paper. Considering legal changes which have occurred, these changes have affected executive bodies in charge of the execution of criminal sanctions. In this paper were applied several methods, such as individual case study, normative analysis, and qualitative methods. From the results of the treatment, we can see that through the legal changes made in this area of Correction have special importance. The correctional system as organized by the Correctional Service has advanced regarding the terms of legislation, influenced by the European system implemented in some countries in this field.

Gastric carcinoma is most common in the 50-70 age group [2], and is extremely rareunder the age of 30; grows rapidly andsteadily to reach higher levels in older agegroups [3]. Basically, there are two sub-types of adenocarcinoma arising from thegastric mucosa: intestinal and diffusebased on Lauren (1965) criteria. The disease was fatigue, with dysphagia associated with solid food, with anorexia, and with weight loss; (about 10 kg for the last 3 months). During this period, he rece-ived symptomatic medication but without any medical visit.Clinical examination revealed a pale skin, with decreased turgor, and in the abdomen was found a tangible mass in the abdomen, easily sensible, other quadrats of the abdo-men loose… Conclusion: Whenever symptoms of dys-phagia, loss of appetite and hematemesis appear, and further investigations should be made, as early diagnosis of a gastric tumor in this group plays a crucial role in determining the prognosis.

Motivation and Organizational Commitment are determinant factors that directly influence the success of the organization. Work motivation is the process that initiates and maintains goal-directed performance, Commitment encourages employees to voluntarily engage in the organization and have an intention to be members of the organization for the long term. This study investigates the relationship between motivation and organizational commitment. An online survey was conducted with 207 participants across Kosovo. The results of regression analysis show that motivation has a significant effect on organizational commitment. The model summary shows that work motivation explains 36% of the change in organizational commitment. The coefficient of work motivation) shows that work motivation has a strong and positive effect on organizational commitment. Positive and strong correlation found between work motivation (WM) and organizational commitment (OC). As much the employees are motivated that means they automatically will increase the job performance.

Agricultural land is facing challenges due to different human activities. Accelerated urbanisation along with explosive economic growth has further worsened the shortage of agricultural land over the last two decades. Kosovo, a country with small areas suitable for agriculture is meeting challenges due to unplanned settlement extension, coal surface mining, parcelisation of properties, etc. This paper consists in an analysis of the agricultural land fund in Kosovo, in quality, production potential and food security for the population, but also the challenges facing Kosovo with this strategic resource. The article analyses three main factors that have made the biggest changes in agricultural land in Kosovo: the effects of settlement extension, coal surface mining and parcelisation in reducing the soil fund. Some of the effects have triggered significant socio-economic processes that have changed the rural environment. Other important risks of agricultural land in Kosovo are: pollution, landfills, frequent floods, etc.

Remittances are an important source of external funding. They have a positive impact, both at the microeconomic level, like for the welfare of the household, and at the macroeconomic level, like in the growth of the domestic economy. Remittances are current transfers in cash or in other forms or money received by resident households from non-resident households. The purpose of this paper is to discover the impact of remittances on the welfare of the household in the Prizren region. For this reason, an online questionnaire with 160 participants was conducted by selecting the non-random sampling method. According to the results obtained, remittances play an important role in the households of the Prizren region because most of these remittances are used for food consumption, education and clothing. At the end of hypothesis testing it is found that there is an important relationship between the residence and the frequency of receiving remittances, and people living in both, urban and rural areas receive remittance in different frequencies. However, no significant relationship has been found between the gender and frequency of receiving remittances. The research mainly has a descriptive nature of the effect of remittances on households.

Prizren is one of the largest cities in Kosovo, with a population of 177,781 inhabitants, spread over a territory of 627 km² or 5.94% of the territory of Kosovo. This municipality has 76 settlements, with a 94,517 people urban population, and 83,264 inhabitants as a rural population. The city's clean water supply is provided by a single safe drinking water company, which supplies water from underground sources, while a good part of the settlements is provided from their local sources, including storage basins and catchments. The study presents the process of controlling and monitoring water quality for human consumption, especially bacterial contamination. Sampling was carried out in cooperation with the Laboratory of the Institute of Public Health in Prizren, where bacteriological analyses were carried out. They were collected in total 16 samples. The samples were transported to the laboratories in sterilized containers, according to WHO guidelines. All samples were tested for counting: total coliform bacteria, coliform bacteria of fecal origin, total bacteria of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, and Streptococcus spp. of fecal origin by classical methods. For large analysis or R3 for testing, 16 water samples were taken. The samples were taken at different collection points such as: at the sources known as the "40 wells" and at households. 8 water samples were taken at water sources and 8 other samples were taken at different points in households or schools. It turns out that out of 16 drinking water samples, only one was outside the standards. The same sample comes from the direct source and represents the untreated water. From the results found, it appears that the consumption of untreated water should be avoided. First-line protection of water sources should be added. Water treatment and production plants should increase cooperation with laboratories for water analysis and compliance with drinking water quality standards. The article represents a contribution to the assessment of slope processes, with special emphasis on landslides, rockfalls, and creeps along the road sector Batushë-Rrasa e Kosharës (municipality of Gjakova) in Kosova. The analysis of natural factors, as well as their role in triggering and evolving slope processes, was conducted by observing the processes in the field and, with a multidisciplinary approach, analyzing the natural factors (geology, tectonics, climate, vegetation) as well as the role of humans. By using GIS/RS techniques, the causes and features of processes were identified and presented with various illustrations and maps, assessing the potential risk in the future with the aim of proper management, considering the movement of citizens, and preserving the road infrastructure in a segment with historical and touristic values. The slopes with a 35-40° gradient are more prone to landslides, while the presence of unconsolidated rocks and fractured limestone has accelerated slope destabilization and rock mass movements. Slope stability techniques should be implemented in order to keep the road open for future visitors to historical sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to treat the important aspects, which deal with State’s obligations to protect individuals lives from the consequences of the domestic violence. Thus, domestic violence is a concerning issue, which derives many consequences that sometimes are irreparable. In many cases, the State is obliged to save individuals lives from the effects of the domestic violence. The State will not be held responsible in all the cases for the consequences of the domestic violence. Due to the scarcity of the regulation of all the situations in the normative terms, the judicial practice that considers the cases of the right to live has evolved greatly, such that it has set many standards in case of increased institutional responsibility towards the consequences caused by the domestic violence. Due to a practical elaboration, the paper as a such will focus in the treatment of cases from the judicial practice in the context of the State’s obligation to save individual’s life, whose life is endangered. Furthermore, there will also be an emphasis in the protection of the right to life and the State’s responsibility in relation to the consequences caused by the actions of the third parties.

The study aims to analyze the availability of renewable freshwater resources and their spatiotemporal distribution in the Eastern Region of Kosovo (ERK). As a crucible resource for agricultural, industrial, and commercial activities, water scarcity will lead to water shortages. Kosovo is a landlocked country, and ERK is the most important region for industrial activities (coal, mines) and agricultural use (plains). Located in continental climate conditions, surrounded by middle to high-altitude mountains, the region does not have a favorable spatio-temporal distribution of freshwaters. The determination of the water resources is based on the amount of surface runoff, which being divided per capita, gives indications of the water resources of a region (catchment). For our aims, main river discharge and population statistics are used to analyze the spatiotemporal distribution and availability of renewable freshwater in ERK. Falkenmark Freshwater Indicator with 1.483 m³/capita/year shows that ERK lies under water scarcity, and existing water reservoirs offer low security for water withdrawals, and further reservoirs would prevent water scarcity in the region.
