The conservation of biodiversity is currently a major problem which is gradually inserted into the development of public policy of administrative territory, with the aim of controlling the impact of human activity on the natural environment. Land transport infrastructure creates disruptions to ecosystems and landscapes. The exploratory project RIZHU (intense runoff and wetlands), is to assess the conditions of coexistence of land transport infrastructure with that of the wetlands.The hypothesis is that a redesigned management of runoff water in the vicinity of the linear land transport infrastructure may help to restore a wetland mesh which conditions their interconnection. The feasibility of this hypothesis is tested and discussed in this article in order to bring the designer and the developer to consider this opportunity.The article recalls the conditions of existence, types and roles of wetlands. It then introduces the approach of the success factors which are: (1) convince the designer and the operator of the appropriateness of a redesigned management of storm water and (2) to benefit from operational space methods for the detection and evaluation of favorable hydrological and ecological contexts within landscapes. An illustration of these aspects is presented in a section of the TGV Méditerranée processed using a GIS tool under development at Irstea and SNCF.The tested indicators still need to be improved to achieve a tool able to assist the decision facing the variety of storm water management situations on the land transport system. Nevertheless, this initial feasibility study presents real opportunities as it combines the issues of water security and continuity of the ecological corridor of wetlands.

Pediatric liver transplantation is a highly specialized, challenging field. Selective reporting may introduce bias into evidence based clinical decision making, but the precise extent of unpublished data in pediatric liver transplantation is unknown today. We therefore assessed the public availability of completed clinical trials in pediatric liver transplantation.We determined the proportion of published and unpublished pre-registered, completed pediatric liver transplantation studies on ClinicalTrials.gov. The major trial and literature databases, i.e., clinicaltrials.gov, Pubmed, and Google Scholar were searched for publications. In addition, principal investigators or sponsors were contacted directly. STROBE criteria were applied for the descriptive analysis.Out of N = 33 studies focusing on pediatric liver transplantation registered as completed until March 2014 on clinicaltrials.gov, N = 19 (58%) studies were published until February 2015, whereas N = 14 (42%) studies remained unpublished. The unpublished trials contain data from N = 2105 (35%) patients out of a total population of N = 6044 study participants. Median time-to-publication, i.e., the period from completion of the trial until public availability of the data was 23 IQR 10 to 28 months. Most pertinent key questions in pediatric liver transplantation, i.e., surgical procedures, immunosuppression, concomitant infections, and graft rejection were addressed in 48% of studies (N = 16/33), half of which were published.Half of the clinical trials in pediatric liver transplantation focused on key questions such as surgical procedures, immunosuppression, concomitant infections, and graft rejection. There is still a considerable amount of unpublished studies results in pediatric liver transplantation. Time from study completion to publication was almost twice as long as the 12 months mandatory FDAAA-timeline with a trend towards acceleration over time. The data should serve as a baseline for future progress in the field. More stringent publication of completed trials and focused multicenter research should be encouraged.

Blocking Plasmodium falciparum transmission to mosquitoes has been designated a strategic objective in the global agenda of malaria elimination. Transmission is ensured by gametocyte-infected erythrocytes (GIE) that sequester in the bone marrow and at maturation are released into peripheral blood from where they are taken up during a mosquito blood meal. Release into the blood circulation is accompanied by an increase in GIE deformability that allows them to pass through the spleen. Here, we used a microsphere matrix to mimic splenic filtration and investigated the role of cAMP-signalling in regulating GIE deformability. We demonstrated that mature GIE deformability is dependent on reduced cAMP-signalling and on increased phosphodiesterase expression in stage V gametocytes, and that parasite cAMP-dependent kinase activity contributes to the stiffness of immature gametocytes. Importantly, pharmacological agents that raise cAMP levels in transmissible stage V gametocytes render them less deformable and hence less likely to circulate through the spleen. Therefore, phosphodiesterase inhibitors that raise cAMP levels in P. falciparum infected erythrocytes, such as sildenafil, represent new candidate drugs to block transmission of malaria parasites.

Buchonomyia thienemanni Fittkau is recorded from the Czech Republic for the first time based on specimens collected in samples from a section of the River Dyje in Podyjí National Park (Moravia) and the Litavka River in the Brdy Mountains (Bohemia).

The Hedonic Pricing Method is one of the principal assessment methods for evaluating services and resources not normally exchanged on the market. However, the method is often unable to account for the great variety of qualities in an urban context and faces scarce and heterogeneous market data. This paper presents a model for the valuation of benefits generated by environmental and urban improvement investments adopting a mixed hedonic-multi-attribute procedure for modeling a value function of urban real estate values. The peculiarity of the model is that the independent variables are aggregated indicators, which synthetize more detailed characteristics. Using the expertise of real estate agents, all relevant variables influencing real estate values were weighted and synthetized in a set of cardinal indicators. Next, market prices were used to calibrate a hedonic function that transforms the cardinal indicators into real estate values. The valuation model was integrated into a GIS for mapping the housing value, and its variation induced by urban investment. The proposed model pointed out plausible and robust results, in particular, the possibility to use any available information, such as location, position, technical and economic characteristics of buildings, and organize it in a flexible and transparent way, and to keep evident the role of each characteristic through the hierarchical structure of the model. The model was applied to the real estate market of Venice to test the effects of the MOSE project (Electromechanical Experimental Module) for the protection of Venice from high tides. The results of the application showed a relevant increase in real estate values in the center of Venice, especially related to property in ground floor units, of about 1.4 billion €.

Rational antibacterial therapy of patients, suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the urgent problems in pulmonology. In recent years, there has been an increase of resistant strains of microogranisms, which contributes to advance of pulmonary tissue damage and worsens the forecast of a disease. Results of bacterial research among patients, suffering from CF, not only reflect the gravity of a pathological process, but also help the doctors choose the regime of antibacterial therapy. Cefoperazone + sulbactam is a highly active antipseudomonal medication, which is effective in treatment of children, suffering from CF.Key words: cystic fibrosis, children, cefoperazone + sulbactam.

Medical forms are very heterogeneous: on a European scale there are thousands of data items in several hundred different systems. To enable data exchange for clinical care and research purposes there is a need to develop interoperable documentation systems with harmonized forms for data capture. A prerequisite in this harmonization process is comparison of forms. So far--to our knowledge--an automated method for comparison of medical forms is not available. A form contains a list of data items with corresponding medical concepts. An automatic comparison needs data types, item names and especially item with these unique concept codes from medical terminologies. The scope of the proposed method is a comparison of these items by comparing their concept codes (coded in UMLS). Each data item is represented by item name, concept code and value domain. Two items are called identical, if item name, concept code and value domain are the same. Two items are called matching, if only concept code and value domain are the same. Two items are called similar, if their concept codes are the same, but the value domains are different. Based on these definitions an open-source implementation for automated comparison of medical forms in ODM format with UMLS-based semantic annotations was developed. It is available as package compareODM from http://cran.r-project.org. To evaluate this method, it was applied to a set of 7 real medical forms with 285 data items from a large public ODM repository with forms for different medical purposes (research, quality management, routine care). Comparison results were visualized with grid images and dendrograms. Automated comparison of semantically annotated medical forms is feasible. Dendrograms allow a view on clustered similar forms. The approach is scalable for a large set of real medical forms.

Une nouvelle méthode a permis de quantifier des Durées Continues d'Habitat Limitant (méthode DCHL) à partir de chroniques d'habitat potentiel, pour la truite fario (Salmo trutta fario, L.). Cette méthode a été appliquée sur deux cours d'eau naturels et sur une station soumise à éclusée. Elle a été validée sur les deux cours d'eau naturels en ce qui concerne l'habitat limitant pour les jeunes truites de l'année (0+). Elle offre un outil pratique d'analyse des périodes d'habitat limitant en régime naturel. En situation d'éclusées, l'interprétation des résultats est différente et nécessite encore un effort important de suivi biologique.

Les approches déterministes existantes décrivant le fonctionnement physique des écosystèmes d'eaux courantes sont a priori adaptées à l'échelle locale. II nous paraît important de développer une démarche visant à synthétiser ce fonctionnement à l'échelle globale du tronçon de rivière, homogène du point de vue géologique et hydrologique. Pour cela, l'utilisation imbriquée d'outils déterministes et d'outils statistiques est nécessaire. Cette démarche suppose de pouvoir définir, pour chaque question biologique, les échelles spatiales et temporelles pertinentes, à l'intérieur desquelles les variables physiques peuvent être décrites par des grandeurs statistiques. Au regard des outils existants dans les différentes disciplines physiques, de ceux qui peuvent être adaptés à cette préoccupation et de ceux qu'il est nécessaire de développer, nous présentons différents axes de recherches possibles, associant hydrologues, géomorphologues, hydrauliciens et hydrobiologistes.

Lipid-based oleaginous microorganisms are potential candidates and resources for the sustainable production of biofuels. This study was designed to evaluate the performance of several alternative bio-based solvents for extracting lipids from yeasts. We used experimental design and simulation with Hansen solubility simulations and the conductor-like screening model for realistic solvation (COSMO-RS) to simulate the solubilization of lipids in each of these solvents. Lipid extracts were analyzed by high performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) to obtain the distribution of lipids classes and gas chromatography coupled with a flame ionization detector (GC/FID) to obtain fatty acid profiles. Our aim was to correlate simulation with experimentation for extraction and solvation of lipids with bio-based solvents in order to make a preliminary evaluation for the replacement of hexane to extract lipids from microorganisms. Differences between theory and practice were noted for several solvents, such as CPME, MeTHF and ethyl acetate, which appeared to be good candidates to replace hexane.

IRIP – Indicator of Intense Pluvial Runoff (French Acronym) – is a method to map the susceptibility of territories to surface runoff generation, transfer and accumulation. The method is based on a geomatic combination of landscape factors extracted from topography, land use and soil type. This study is part of the method evaluation process and suggests using information from post-event surveys of surface runoff events to evaluate the agreement between the IRIP maps and the field observations. Surface runoff susceptibility maps are produced at five meters resolution for three impact areas on railways with different infrastructure and environment configurations. First, information categories are extracted from the post-event surveys, and then the IRIP maps are analyzed to see if and how the information categories are retrieved. This study shows that the IRIP maps fit the impact description. The areas susceptible to surface runoff transfer fit the gullies locations and the areas susceptible to surface runoff accumulation fit the sediment deposit traces. The comparison also highlights that the IRIP maps can give further information on the event spatial dynamics. Given the simplicity and the robustness of the mapping method, IRIP can be a tool to perform surface runoff post-event surveys and to improve the surface runoff hazard assessment.

For sustainable and integrated flood management, small actions in the hillslopes and non-structural measures appear interesting, either to diminish the need for large flood mitigation infrastructures (whether sewerage networks or hydraulic structures in the river – which may have severe impact on the river ecosystems), or as complementary to these structures. However, the effect on flood mitigation of land-use modification and small storage or runoff control facilities is still debated in scientific literature. The effect of various structures spread over the catchment is difficult to assess, and hazardous to generalize from one studied catchment to another, which explains why the debate is still open. This study contributes to identify context features that could also explain constrasting results. Focusing on a West-Mediterranean Northern and Southern countries literature, we compare first traditionnal and modern hillslope actions against runoff in both countries. Then, we search in the physical contexts differences that might explain why actions in the hillslopes are more studied in Europe than in Maghreb. But the priorities of national or regional policies also explain differences in the perception of efficiency: the interest of hillslope actions is different if the aim is to limit erosion and pollutant transfer and/or to mitigate large floods. Pollution and how ecological status is taken into account in flood mitigation project assessment are also crucial points.

The description of Rheotanytarsus dactylophoreus sp. nov. is based on adult males, pharate males and pupal exuviae collected in low and middle mountain streams located in the Eastern Pyrenees and Corsica is presented. The most distinctive character in the adult male is the unusually long, finger-like, digitus and in the pupal exuviae is the thoracic horn which is spinulate laterally (extending from swollen base into tapered apical half). The distribution of R. dactylophoreus sp. nov. indicates that this pyreneocorsican species is a Tyrrhenian faunal element which spread westwards to mountain streams of the Eastern Pyrenees perhaps during the repeated waves of migration from the Paleocene (Montian) till the late Miocene. doi: 10.5324/fn.v31i0.1375. Three new species of Paratanytarsus are described, from Corsica, southern France and Lebanon, based on the adult males and associated pupal exuviae. These descriptions increase the number of western Palaearctic species in the genus to 23. The pupal exuviae of the new species resemble those of P. bituberculatus (Edwards). Main diagnostic characters as well as additional illustrations of P. bituberculatus are also presented. Characters are given for distinguishing the adult males and the pupal exuviae from other related species. Diagnoses and descriptions of the adults and pupal exuviae of Stygocladius multisetosus gen. nov., sp. nov., are provided based primarily on male and female pharates collected in temporary basaltic and karstic helocrenes in southern France and Algeria. Features on the adult male, female and pupa indicates that it belongs to the Heterotrissocladius group of genera and is probably most closely related to Paratrissocladius Zavřel. Les projets de restauration des cours d'eau sont maintenant de plus en plus fréquents et ambitieux. Intégrant un grand nombre de composantes de l'hydrosystème, ils ne prennent néanmoins pas pleinement en compte sa dimension verticale et oublient souvent un compartiment fondamental, représenté par la zone hyporhéique. Cette zone constitue une seconde rivière dont l'écoulement souterrain est invisible, et dont l'existence et la fonction sont largement méconnues. Pourtant elle joue un rôle fondamental dans le maintien des processus écologiques et dans la préservation de la biodiversité du cours d'eau. Après avoir précisé les rôles du milieu hyporhéique et souligné l'effet des activités humaines qui altèrent souvent sa structure et ses fonctions, on montrera de quelle manière les projets actuels de réhabilitation pourraient être complétés grâce à l'intégration systématique de la zone hyporhéique dans leurs plans et leurs suivis de restauration.

Abstract Material recently collected in Continental France has allowed me to generate a list of 83 taxa of chironomids, including 37 new records to the fauna of France. According to published data on the chironomid fauna of France 718 chironomid species are hitherto known from the French territories. The nomenclature and taxonomy of the species listed are based on the last version of the Chironomidae data in Fauna Europaea, on recent revisions of genera and other recent publications relevant to taxonomy and nomenclature.
