Background: Mild behavioural impairment (MBI) is an emergent and persistent neuropsychiatric symptom (NPS) in subjects aged 50 and older who are at risk for cognitive decline. We examined the prevalence of MBI across the spectrum from cognitively normal (CN), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), to dementia, and further investigated the association between the MBI domain and cognitive and functional impairment. Method: MBI was assessed in 2337 elderly patients in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database (mean age, 73.04 years; 52.8% male). Among the subjects, 868 (37.1%) had normal cognition, 1066 (45.6%) had MCI, and 403 (17.2%) had mild Alzheimer's dementia (AD). MBI was evaluated in accordance with the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment diagnostic criteria for MBI, utilising the Neuropsychiatric Inventory. We compared the prevalence of the MBI domain with CN using multinominal logistic regression analysis and further quantified the magnitude of the association between MCI/AD and the MBI domains by calculating the population attributable risk (PAR). We assessed the association between the MBI domains and cognitive and functional impairment using simultaneous linear regression analysis. Results: The most common MBI domains in each diagnostic group were affective dysregulation followed by impulse dyscontrol, decreased motivation, social inappropriateness, and abnormal perception or thought content. The PARs for MBI domains in subjects with MCI or AD were respectively: 16.60% and 24.34% for affective dysregulation; 3.72% and 18.06% for impulse dyscontrol; 4.78% and 14.13% for decreased motivation, 1.91% and 2.29% for social inappropriateness; and 0.68% and 3.85% for abnormal perception or thought content. All MBI domains except for social inappropriateness were significantly associated with a higher 11‐item Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale–Cognitive Subscale total score. All MBI domains were significantly associated with a higher Functional Activities Questionnaire total score. Conclusion: Our findings show that MBI is highly prevalent across subjects with CN, MCI, and AD and is associated with cognitive and functional decline. Background: Recent findings suggest that brief dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for borderline personality disorder is effective for reducing self-harm, but it remains unknown which patients are likely to improve in brief v. 12 months of DBT. Research is needed to identify patient characteristics that moderate outcomes. Here, we characterized changes in cognition across brief DBT (DBT-6) v. a standard 12-month course (DBT-12) and examined whether cognition predicted self-harm outcomes in each arm. Methods: In this secondary analysis of 240 participants in the FASTER study (NCT02387736), cognitive measures were administered at pre-treatment, after 6 months, and at 12 months. Self-harm was assessed from pre-treatment to 2-year follow-up. Multilevel models characterized changes in cognition across treatment. Generalized estimating equations examined whether pre-treatment cognitive performance predicted self-harm outcomes in each arm. Results: Cognitive performance improved in both arms after 6 months of treatment, with no between-arm differences at 12-months. Pre-treatment inhibitory control was associated with different self-harm outcomes in DBT-6 v. DBT-12. For participants with average inhibitory control, self-harm outcomes were significantly better when assigned to DBT-12, relative to DBT-6, at 9–18 months after initiating treatment. In contrast, participants with poor inhibitory control showed better self-harm outcomes when assigned to brief DBT-6 v. DBT-12, at 12–24 months after initiating treatment. Conclusions: This work represents an initial step toward an improved understanding of patient profiles that are best suited to briefer v. standard 12 months of DBT, but observed effects should be replicated in a waitlist-controlled study to confirm that they were treatment-specific. Nowadays, cigarette butts are the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world, with about 4.5 trillion individual butts polluting our global environment. Solutions need to be found to reduce this negative environmental impact. Nudges could be a simple solution to reduce cigarette butts pollution. In this way, Social Proof and Dueling Preferences nudges were tested in a natural setting. Ashtrays using Social Proof or Dueling Preferences were experimented during 6 weeks in Bordeaux city, France. Comparatively, to control ashtray, Dueling Preferences ashtray was successful in reducing cigarette butts pollution. Social Proof ashtray was efficient too, but less efficient than Dueling Preference. Nudges using voting ashtrays (Dueling Preferences) seem to be a simple and realistic solution to decrease smoker's incivilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Studies have found that presence of challenging behaviours and mental health problems limits employment for people with intellectual disabilities. This study investigates the associations between age, gender, living condition, level of intellectual disability, diagnoses, behaviour, mental health, and employment in adults with intellectual disabilities in Norway. Method: A cross‐sectional community‐based survey including 214 adult participants (56% men) with intellectual disabilities. Results: In our sample, 25% had no organised day activity, 27% attended non‐work day care, 19% attended sheltered employment, or day care with production, without pay and 29% worked in paid sheltered employment. One participant attended mainstream employment. Moderate and severe/profound level of intellectual disability, possible organic condition and irritability significantly reduced the odds of employment (paid and unpaid). Conclusion: Findings suggest unequal access to the sheltered employment that was meant to be inclusive. Background: Adults with intellectual disabilities (IDs) are susceptible to multiple health risk behaviours such as alcohol consumption, smoking, low physical activity, sedentary behaviour and poor diet. Lifestyle modification interventions can prevent or reduce negative health consequences caused by these behaviours. We aim to determine the effectiveness of lifestyle modification interventions and their components in targeting health risk behaviours in adults with IDs. Methods: A systematic review and meta‐analysis were conducted. Electronic databases, clinical trial registries, grey literature and citations of systematic reviews and included studies were searched in January 2021 (updated February 2022). Randomised controlled trials and non‐randomised controlled trials targeting alcohol consumption, smoking, low physical activity, sedentary behaviours and poor diet in adults (aged ≥ 18 years) with ID were included. Meta‐analysis was conducted at the intervention level (pairwise and network meta‐analysis) and the component‐level (component network meta‐analysis). Studies were coded using Michie's 19‐item theory coding scheme and 94‐item behaviour change taxonomies. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias (ROB) Version 2 and Risk of Bias in Non‐randomised Studies of Interventions (ROBINS‐I). The study involved a patient and public involvement (PPI) group, including people with lived experience, who contributed extensively by shaping the methodology, providing valuable insights in interpreting results and organising of dissemination events. Results: Our literature search identified 12 180 articles, of which 80 studies with 4805 participants were included in the review. The complexity of lifestyle modification intervention was dismantled by identifying six core components that influenced outcomes. Interventions targeting single or multiple health risk behaviours could have a single or combination of multiple core‐components. Interventions (2 RCTS; 4 non‐RCTs; 228 participants) targeting alcohol consumption and smoking behaviour were effective but based on limited evidence. Similarly, interventions targeting low physical activity only (16 RCTs; 17 non‐RCTs; 1413 participants) or multiple behaviours (low physical activity only, sedentary behaviours and poor diet) (17 RCTs; 24 non‐RCTs; 3164 participants) yielded mixed effectiveness in outcomes. Most interventions targeting low physical activity only or multiple behaviours generated positive effects on various outcomes while some interventions led to no change or worsened outcomes, which could be attributed to the presence of a single core‐component or a combination of similar core components in interventions. The intervention‐level meta‐analysis for weight management outcomes showed that none of the interventions were associated with a statistically significant change in outcomes when compared with treatment‐as‐usual and each other. Interventions with core‐components combination of energy deficit diet, aerobic exercise and behaviour change techniques showed the highest weight loss [mean difference (MD) = −3.61, 95% credible interval (CrI) −9.68 to 1.95] and those with core‐components combination dietary advice and aerobic exercise showed a weight gain (MD 0.94, 95% CrI −3.93 to 4.91). Similar findings were found with the component network meta‐analysis for which additional components were identified. Most studies had a high and moderate risk of bias. Various theories and behaviour change techniques were used in intervention development and adaptation. Conclusion: Our systematic review is the first to comprehensively explore lifestyle modification interventions targeting a range of single and multiple health risk behaviours in adults with ID, co‐produced with people with lived experience. It has practical implications for future research as it highlights the importance of mixed‐methods research in understanding lifestyle modification interventions and the need for population‐specific improvements in the field (e.g., tailored interventions, development of evaluation instruments or tools, use of rigorous research methodologies and comprehensive reporting frameworks). Wide dissemination of related knowledge and the involvement of PPI groups, including people with lived experience, will help future researchers design interventions that consider the unique needs, desires and abilities of people with ID. Aim: To explore family caregivers' experiences of contributing to self‐care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Design: A qualitative description study. Methods: Individual semi‐structured interviews were conducted face‐to face, by telephone or video calls in a purposive sample of 17 family caregivers of patients with COPD recruited in Italy, and analysed through content analysis. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative studies (COREQ) checklist was used for study reporting. Results: Ten subcategories were derived from 106 codes grouped into three main categories: family caregiver contributions to maintaining disease stable and ensuring a normal life for patients; family caregiver contributions to disease monitoring; and family caregiver contributions to coping with disease exacerbations. Family caregivers provided practical and emotional support, and their contribution was essential to improve treatment adherence, to enable the patient to continue living a normal life, and to have access to the healthcare services. Family caregivers were constantly vigilant and monitored patients daily to detect worsening conditions, and they managed exacerbations especially when patients were unable to do it due to their critical conditions. Conclusion: This study broadens knowledge of family caregivers' contributions to patients' self‐care in COPD, describing the different ways family members provide daily care to patients and the many responsibilities they take on. Impact: Family caregivers perform a variety of behaviours when supporting patients with COPD in self‐care, especially when patients are more dependent and the disease more severe. Nurses should acknowledge the various contributions provided by family caregivers and develop educational interventions aiming to support them in patient care and improve patient outcomes. This study aims to compare the developmental-behavioral profiles of 2-year-olds of mothers who experienced postpartum and/or current depression with profiles of toddlers of mothers without depression at either time using population-based Rhode Island data. Weighted data from Rhode Island Department of Health's Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System and Rhode Island's follow-up Toddlers Wellness Overview Survey distributed to mothers giving birth between 2006 and 2008 were analyzed. Compared with non-depressed mothers, those with any depression following childbirth reported more concerns with their toddlers' receptive language, social-emotional development, and their sleep and feeding behaviors. When adjusted for demographics, persistent depression remained associated with social-emotional (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 7.53, 2.78-20.34) and feeding concerns (aOR = 3.13, 1.36-7.22), and current depression was associated with social-emotional concerns (aOR = 2.52, 1.26-5.01). We conclude that pediatric providers should explore maternal mental health as a mediating and potentially modifiable factor beyond the postpartum period when toddlers present with developmental-behavioral challenges. Problematic alcohol use (PAU) has been a marginalised subject within the systemic field. The present article brings PAU into focus and discusses the conceptualisation of PAU. Reflected in the dominance of individually orientated treatment approaches, PAU is widely seen as an individual condition with aetiology and maintenance attributed to individual pathology and behaviour. Pathologising and stigmatising dominant discourses surrounding PAU also appear to perpetuate this individual conceptualisation, the implications of which are discussed in this article. The present article maintains PAU is a relational illness, with relational aetiology and maintenance, thus with relational implications for treatment. Summary: Importance: The effectiveness of anti‐obesity medications for children and adolescents is unclear. Objective: To update the evidence on the benefits and harms of anti‐obesity medication. Data Sources: Cochrane CENTRAL, MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov and WHO ICTRP (1/1/16–17/3/23). Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials ≥6 months in people <19 years living with obesity. Data Extraction and Synthesis: Screening, data extraction and quality assessment conducted in duplicate, independently. Main Outcomes and Measures: Body mass index (BMI): 95th percentile BMI, adverse events and quality of life. Results: Thirty‐five trials (N = 4331), follow‐up: 6–24 months; age: 8.8–16.3 years; BMI: 26.2–41.7 kg/m2. Moderate certainty evidence demonstrated a −1.71 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −2.27 to −1.14)‐unit BMI reduction, ranging from −0.8 to −5.9 units between individual drugs with semaglutide producing the largest reduction of −5.88 kg/m2 (95% CI: −6.99 to −4.77, N = 201). Drug type explained ~44% of heterogeneity. Low certainty evidence demonstrated reduction in 95th percentile BMI: −11.88 percentage points (95% CI: −18.43 to −5.30, N = 668). Serious adverse events and study discontinuation due to adverse events did not differ between medications and comparators, but medication dose adjustments were higher compared to comparator (10.6% vs 1.7%; RR = 3.74 [95% CI: 1.51 to 9.26], I2 = 15%), regardless of approval status. There was a trend towards improved quality of life. Evidence gaps exist for children, psychosocial outcomes, comorbidities and weight loss maintenance. Conclusions and Relevance: Anti‐obesity medications in addition to behaviour change improve BMI but may require dose adjustment, with 1 in 100 adolescents experiencing a serious adverse event. Oil and gas exploration and development is expanding across the Arctic Coastal Plain (ACP) of Alaska, USA. To examine the effects of industrial development on greater white‐fronted geese (Anser albifrons), we monitored nests and nesting behavior within a 4‐km2 study area within 4 km of gravel roads and pads during pre‐development, construction, and operation activities at a new oil development in the National Petroleum Reserve‐Alaska in 2013−2019. We examined distribution, incubation constancy, and nest survival in relation to distance to gravel roads or pads, year and status of development, presence of an ice road the previous winter, and land cover type. Nest density increased throughout the study period, which was consistent with surveys of this species in other regions of the ACP. There was no direct evidence that oil extraction infrastructure and the associated human activity adversely influenced the abundance, distribution, or daily nest survival of greater white‐fronted goose nests. Geese avoided nesting in the alignments of ice roads from the previous winter, and land cover type influenced their nest distribution. Nest age and incubation constancy were important predictors of daily nest survival. The incubation constancy of successful nesters (98.5 ± 0.1% [SE]) was significantly greater than for failed nesters (94.7 ± 0.6%) for all years combined and tended to be greater during the pre‐construction and construction years of 2014 and 2015, compared to when oilfield operations began in 2017 and 2019. Greater‐white fronted geese appear to be tolerant of some levels of industrial activities and the presence of gravel roads did not have a significant effect on nest distribution, incubation constancy, or nest survival. We recommend, however, that indirect effects from ice roads should be explicitly considered in impact assessments because white‐fronted geese avoid nesting in the footprints of the previous winter's ice roads and pads. Mojave desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) populations in some regions have declined by >50% since 2004, prompting the need for more research on ways to recover populations. One possible recovery tool is head‐starting (i.e., the act of protecting and raising juvenile tortoises to sizes that increase survival upon release); however, head‐starting can have high start‐up and maintenance costs that can limit its feasibility. Strategies that reduce cost and rearing duration may foster broader and more effective use. We released and radio‐tracked 60 juvenile tortoises in the Mojave National Preserve in California, USA, that had been reared under 2 treatments: those reared 1 year indoors after hatching, then 1 year outdoors (combo) and those reared just 1 year indoors (indoor‐only). We tested whether indoor‐only rearing alone could be a more efficient means of producing robust head‐started tortoises. We examined the behavior, movement, and survival of tortoises after release into the wild from 2020 to 2021 to determine whether these outcomes differed between husbandry treatments. Combo tortoises tended to perform settling behaviors (mean ± 1 SE days to building first burrow = 6.7 ± 0.8, entering dormancy = 23.3 ± 2.1, and emerging from dormancy = 189.6 ± 4.4) earlier than indoor‐only tortoises (7.4 ± 0.9, 31.5 ± 2.6, and 193.9 ± 5.9, respectively), but this difference was not significant, suggesting the rearing method did not greatly alter settling behavior. Indoor‐only tortoises dispersed at least twice as far from their release site (156.2 ± 26.3 m compared with 77.3 ± 20.6 m for combo tortoises), had larger mean use areas (3.7 ± 0.1 ha compared with 2.8 ± 0.3 ha for combo tortoises for 95% Brownian bridge movement model estimates), and greater variability in their movements than combo tortoises (daily average step length post‐emergence: 4.3 ± 0.2 m compared with 2.8 ± 0.1 m for combo tortoises). Despite differences in their movements, indoor‐only and combo tortoises had similar survival rates over the study, 51% versus 42%, respectively, during a period of extreme drought in 2021. The similarity in survival between groups gives head‐starting practitioners freedom in their rearing methods. Occurrence of neurotoxic chemicals in the aquatic environment is on the rise posing a potential threat to aquatic biota including fish. In teleosts, zebrafish has become a popular model organism for toxicological studies and testing strategies. However, over the decade, siluriformes (catfish) are also finding ever increasing application being robust as well as their adaptability to adverse ecological conditions, surgical interventions, and tolerant models for toxicity studies and manipulations. Such information can infer potential effects occurring to other species exposed to neurotoxins in their aquatic environment and predicting potential risks of a chemical for the aquatic ecosystem. The aim of this review is to compare and interpret recent results published concerning neurobehavioral and morphological disturbances caused by toxicants/pollutants providing a holistic view of potential neurotoxic outcomes in catfish. • A high-fat diet impairs learning and memory in male mice and increases anxiety-like behavior across sexes and ages. • A high-fat diet exacerbates systemic inflammation across age and sex in mice and induces microglia in aged male mice. • Hypothalamic proteome reveals metabolic stress induced by a high-fat diet in aged male mice. Aging and age-related diseases are associated with cellular stress, metabolic imbalance, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation, accompanied by cognitive impairment. Lifestyle factors such as diet, sleep fragmentation, and stress can potentiate damaging cellular cascades and lead to an acceleration of brain aging and cognitive impairment. High-fat diet (HFD) has been associated with obesity, metabolic disorders like diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. HFD also induces neuroinflammation, impairs learning and memory, and may increase anxiety-like behavior. Effects of a HFD may also vary between sexes. The interaction between Age- and Sex- and Diet-related changes in neuroinflammation and cognitive function is an important and poorly understood area of research. This study was designed to examine the effects of HFD on neuroinflammation, behavior, and neurodegeneration in mice in the context of aging or sex differences. In a series of studies, young (2–3 months) or old (12–13 months) C57BL/6J male mice or young male and female C57Bl/6J mice were fed either a standard diet (SD) or a HFD for 5–6 months. Behavior was assessed in Activity Chamber, Y-maze, Novel Place Recognition, Novel Object Recognition, Elevated Plus Maze, Open Field, Morris Water Maze, and Fear Conditioning. Post-mortem analyses assessed a panel of inflammatory markers in the plasma and hippocampus. Additionally, proteomic analysis of the hypothalamus, neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation in the locus coeruleus, and neuroinflammation in the hippocampus were assessed in a subset of young and aged male mice. We show that HFD increased body weight and decreased locomotor activity across groups compared to control mice fed a SD. HFD altered anxiety-related exploratory behavior. HFD impaired spatial learning and recall in young male mice and impaired recall in cued fear conditioning in young and aged male mice, with no effects on spatial learning or fear conditioning in young female mice. Effects of Age and Sex were observed on neuroinflammatory cytokines, with only limited effects of HFD. HFD had a more significant impact on systemic inflammation in plasma across age and sex. Aged male mice had induction of microglial immunoreactivity in both the locus coeruleus (LC) and hippocampus an effect that HFD exacerbated in the hippocampal CA1 region. Proteomic analysis of the hypothalamus revealed changes in pathways related to metabolism and neurodegeneration with both aging and HFD in male mice. Our findings suggest that HFD induces widespread systemic inflammation and limited neuroinflammation. In addition, HFD alters exploratory behavior in male and female mice, and impairs learning and memory in male mice. Results of behavioral obesity treatments have generally been unsuccessful. Reduction of participants' emotional eating (EE) might be essential. Women with obesity within age-groups of emerging adult, young adult, and middle-aged adult – participating in a community-based obesity treatment centered around self-regulatory skills to control eating – were evaluated over 6 months. There were significant reductions in participants' EE and eating-related self-regulation. Participants' change in self-regulation significantly predicted their changes in depression-related, anxiety-related, and total EE. Participants' age group did not significantly affect either their degree of improvement or self-regulation-EE change relationships. Fear of victimization (FOV) is a powerful determinant of behavior and prompts behavioral responses such as avoidance, associated with a decline in health-promoting activities and quality of life. Avoidance behaviors, which include constraining activities to perceived safe areas and avoiding areas regarded as unsafe, are of particular interest due to their high prevalence as a coping response to FOV and their link to adverse physical and mental health. Most research on FOV-related avoidance treats it as a single construct and have yet to elucidate the potential heterogeneity within this set of behaviors. We argue that such approach could mask potential heterogeneity among people who respond to FOV through avoidance and how they adapt to manage perceived risk. Our analysis extends the foundational knowledge regarding FOV-related avoidance using a person-centered approach. We attempted to capture distinct profiles across avoidance behaviors and how they are shaped by physical and social vulnerabilities. Data from the 2021 Mexico's National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Security Survey (n = 83,696) was analyzed using Latent Class Analysis focusing on 15 avoidance behaviors (e.g., stopped using public transportation). We conducted multinomial logistic regression to test whether age, gender, education, and neighborhood deprivation significantly predicted class membership. Findings revealed three classes: avoidant (most behavioral adjustments across the board), cautious (only adapted some behaviors), and protective (least behavioral adjustments, but more concerned about minors in their households). The results supported the hypothesized associations between age, gender, education, and neighborhood deprivation with group membership, but the significance differed by group. This research underscores the role of environmental context in shaping individual perceptions of safety and avoidance behavior. Finally, contrary to the approach of treating avoidance behavior as a single category, these findings present a more complex picture as distinct and meaningful patterns emerged across the three groups. Objective: The purpose of this review was to assess the current evidence regarding the associated physiological and cognitive effects of aspartame (APM) consumption and Parkinson's Disease (PD). Methods: A total of 32 studies demonstrating effects of APM on monoamine deficiencies, oxidative stress, and cognitive changes were reviewed. Results: Multiple studies demonstrated decreased brain dopamine, decreased brain norepinephrine, increased oxidative stress, increased lipid peroxidation, and decreased memory function in rodents after APM use. In addition, PD animal models have been found to be more sensitive to the effects of APM. Discussion: Overall, studies of APM use over time yielded more consistent results; however, no study has examined long-term effects on APM in human PD patients. Background: Studies on equine air transport practices and consequences are scarce. This prospective study aimed to describe horse and air journey details and practices, document how horse behavior and health changed during the air transport phases, quantify the occurrence of welfare issues, and identify possible associations between horse and journey details, air transport practices, and welfare issues. Results: Data were collected from before departure to five days after arrival on 118/597 horses traveling on 32 commercial air journeys on different routes, varying in duration and conditions. Most horses were middle-aged warmblood females, 26% of which were pregnant, and being moved by air for sales. Before flying, most were quarantined (median: 18; IQR: 9–53 days), and their fitness for travel was certified by veterinarians. At the departure airports, external temperatures varied from − 6 °C to 33 °C, and horses were loaded by experienced flight grooms (median: 35; IQR: 15–40 years) into jet stalls (three-horse: 87%, two-horse: 13%). During the flights, horses were regularly watered (water intake median: 14 L) and fed ad libitum (feed consumption median: 8 kg). At the arrival airport, horses were unloaded from the jet stalls, and external temperatures ranged from − 5 °C to 32 °C. Then, all horses were transported to arrival quarantine by road. Air transport phases affected horses' health status and behavior; increased heart and respiratory rates and behaviors, such as pawing, head tossing, and vocalization, were mainly identified at departure and arrival. Horse interaction, nasal discharge, increased capillary refill time (CRT), and abnormal demeanor were observed more often one hour before landing while resting and normal capillary refill time were more often displayed five days after arrival (all P < 0.01). One hour before landing, horses with bad temperament and horses of unknown temperament were more likely to develop nasal discharge when transported in winter and autumn (P < 0.001). The likelihood of an increased CRT was associated with shorter flights in horses of unknown travel experience (P < 0.001). Ten horses were injured, and 11 developed pleuropneumonias (i.e., shipping fever). Conclusions: Air transport is a complex procedure with several different phases affecting horse health and behavior. Introduction: Perception of illness (PI) and self-medication (SM) have been thoroughly explored in the existing literature. However, there is a lack of understanding about the mediating effect of health literacy on PI and SM in a non-homogenous population like Saudi Arabia. As such, primary healthcare nurses who have constant interaction with the outpatients have difficulty addressing self-medication. This study aimed to investigate health literacy as mediator between PI and SM among outpatients in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional approach and was conducted at 10 major primary healthcare (PHC) clinics serving 30 million individuals in 13 different regions of KSA. The 424 outpatients who participated in this study were selected through convenience sampling. Data collection started in November 2022 and concluded in February 2023. Results: The mean of the Brief Health Literacy Screening Tool, self-medication scale (SMS), and PI scores were 13.01 ± 3.32, 27.46 ± 7.01, and 45.56 ± 7.69, respectively. There was a significant relationship between the age and BRIEF scores (p = 0.039), and the level of education was significantly related to all variables, as were nationality and BRIEF scores (p = 0.001). Finally, occupation was significantly related to BRIEF and SMS scores (p = 0.001 and 0.003, respectively). Completing college and being non-Saudi had positively significant effects on health literacy (p < 0.01). The structural equation model (SEM) found no effect of PI on health literacy or SM behaviour (p = 0.263 and 0.84, respectively), but health literacy did have an effect on SM behaviour (p<0.001). Conclusion: Health literacy is an important factor in self-medication behavior and that PI is not directly related to health literacy or self-medication behavior, but that health literacy does influence self-medication behavior. We examined (1) how caregivers mentally represent trigger and symptom management strategies, and (2) how those mental representations are associated with actual management behavior.In an online survey, N = 431 caregivers of children with asthma rated 20 trigger management behaviors and 20 symptom management behaviors across 15 characteristics, and indicated how often they engaged in each behavior.Principal components analysis indicated 4 dimensions for trigger management behaviors and 3 for symptom management behaviors. Bayesian mixed-effects models indicated that engagement in trigger management behavior was more likely for behaviors rated as affirming caregiver activities. However, trigger management behavior did not depend on how highly the behavior was rated as challenging for caregiver, burdensome on child, or routine caregiving. Engagement in symptom management behavior was more likely for behaviors rated as affirming and common and harmless to the child, but was unrelated to how highly a behavior was rated as challenging for caregivers.These results suggest that interventions might be particularly useful if they focus on the affirming nature of asthma management behaviors. The issue of poor sexual performance of some male giant pandas seriously impairs the growth and the genetic diversity of the captive population, yet there is still no clear understanding of the cause of the loss of this ability and its underlying mechanism. In this study, we analyzed the gut microbiota and its function in 72 fecal samples obtained from 20 captive male giant pandas, with an equal allocation between individuals capable and incapable of natural mating. Additionally, we investigated fecal hormone levels and behavioral differences between the two groups. A correlation analysis was then conducted among these factors to explore the influencing factors of their natural mating ability. The results showed significant differences in the composition of gut microbiota between the two groups of male pandas. The capable group had significantly higher abundance of Clostridium sensu stricto 1 (padjusted =.0021, GLMM), which was positively correlated with fatty acid degradation and two‐component system functions (Spearman, padjusted <.05). Additionally, the capable group showed higher gene abundance in gut microbiota function including purine and pyrimidine metabolism and galactose metabolism, as well as pathways related to biological processes such as ribosome and homologous recombination (DEseq2, padjusted <.05). We found no significant differences in fecal cortisol and testosterone levels between the two groups, and no difference was found in their behavior either. Objective To understand children, s parents' cognition and behavior of antibacterial drugs, so as to provide reference for promoting rational use of antibacterial drugs in children, reducing bacterial drug resistance and adverse drug reactions. Methods From April 2022 to April 2023, 517 parents of pediatric inpatients at Pingshan District People's Hospital in Shenzhen were surveyed on the cognition and behavior of antibacterial drug use. Descriptive analysis, univariate analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to explore the possible factors affecting parents' cognition and behavior of rational use of antibiotics. Results A total of 517 questionnaires were collected, of which 482 were valid, with an effective recovery rate of 93. 23%. The scores of parents' knowledge and practice on antibacterial drugs were (7. 06 ±3.91) and (28.02 ± 4.32), and the scoring rates were (44. 11 ± 24.46)% and (80.06 ± 12.34)%, respectively. A deficiency in the shortest dystrophin-gene product, Dp71, is a pivotal aggravating factor for intellectual disabilities in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Recent advances in preclinical research have achieved some success in compensating both muscle and brain dysfunctions associated with DMD, notably using exon skipping strategies. However, this has not been studied for distal mutations in the DMD gene leading to Dp71 loss. In this study, we aimed to restore brain Dp71 expression in the Dp71-null transgenic mouse using an adeno-associated virus (AAV) administrated either by intracardiac injections at P4 (ICP4) or by bilateral intracerebroventricular (ICV) injections in adults. ICP4 delivery of the AAV9-Dp71 vector enabled the expression of 2 to 14% of brain Dp71, while ICV delivery enabled the overexpression of Dp71 in the hippocampus and cortex of adult mice, with anecdotal expression in the cerebellum. The restoration of Dp71 was mostly located in the glial endfeet that surround capillaries, and it was associated with partial localization of Dp71-associated proteins, α1-syntrophin and AQP4 water channels, suggesting proper restoration of a scaffold of proteins involved in blood–brain barrier function and water homeostasis. However, this did not result in significant improvements in behavioral disturbances displayed by Dp71-null mice. The potential and limitations of this AAV-mediated strategy are discussed. According to previous studies, the median raphe region (MRR) is known to contribute significantly to social behavior. Besides serotonin, there have also been reports of a small population of dopaminergic neurons in this region. Dopamine is linked to reward and locomotion, but very little is known about its role in the MRR. To address that, we first confirmed the presence of dopaminergic cells in the MRR of mice (immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR), and then also in humans (RT-PCR) using healthy donor samples to prove translational relevance. Next, we used chemogenetic technology in mice containing the Cre enzyme under the promoter of the dopamine transporter. With the help of an adeno-associated virus, designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADDs) were expressed in the dopaminergic cells of the MRR to manipulate their activity. Four weeks later, we performed an extensive behavioral characterization 30 min after the injection of the artificial ligand (Clozapine-N-Oxide). Stimulation of the dopaminergic cells in the MRR decreased social interest without influencing aggression and with an increase in social discrimination. Additionally, inhibition of the same cells increased the friendly social behavior during social interaction test. No behavioral changes were detected in anxiety, memory or locomotion. All in all, dopaminergic cells were present in both the mouse and human samples from the MRR, and the manipulation of the dopaminergic neurons in the MRR elicited a specific social response. The development of mathematical models capable of predicting the lifespan of animals is growing. However, there are no studies that compare the predictive power of different sets of parameters depending on the age of the animals. The aim of the present study is to test whether mathematical models for life span prediction developed in adult female mice based on immune, redox, and behavioral parameters can predict life span in old animals and to develop new models in old mice. For this purpose, 29 variables, including parameters of immune function, redox state, and behavioral ones, were evaluated in old female Swiss mice (80 ± 4 weeks). Life span was registered when they died naturally. Firstly, we observed that the models developed in adults were not able to accurately predict the life span of old mice. Therefore, the immunity (adjusted R2 = 73.6%), redox (adjusted R2 = 46.5%), immunity-redox (adjusted R2 = 96.4%), and behavioral (adjusted R2 = 67.9%) models were developed in old age. Finally, the models were validated in another batch of mice. The developed models in old mice show certain similarities to those in adults but include different immune, redox, and behavioral markers, which highlights the importance of age in the prediction of life span. Simple Summary: The measurement of stress in wildlife, especially using non-invasive methods, is an important tool when monitoring wild animals taken into human care. However, the methods used to measure stress hormone metabolites from feces must be validated for each species. Eight Common Buzzards habituated to humans were placed into prepared aviaries and their feces were collected over a period of seven days. For biological validation, handling and restraint were used as a stress event. Hormone metabolites were analyzed using three different enzyme immunoassays to find the most suitable one. In addition, a degradation experiment was conducted to find out how long the fecal glucocorticoid metabolites (fGCMs) remained stable in the feces at room temperature. The cortisone enzyme immunoassay detected a distinctive peak of excreted glucocorticoid metabolites in response to the stress event. We found no significant differences between the sexes, but a diurnal variation in the stress hormone metabolites. Immunoreactive metabolite concentrations showed a significant change eight hours after defecation, indicating degradation processes. Our study successfully validated the non-invasive measurement of fGCMs as a stress indicator in the Common Buzzard and could lay the foundation for future studies providing new insights for animal welfare research in this species. For wild animals, being in captivity in wildlife centers can cause considerable stress. Therefore, it is necessary to establish and validate non-invasive tools to measure chronic stress during rehabilitation. Eight Common Buzzards which lived in permanent husbandry were placed individually into prepared aviaries and their feces were collected before, during and after a stress event for biological validation over a period of seven days. The extracted fecal glucocorticoid metabolites (fGCMs) were analyzed with three different enzyme immune assays (EIA) to find the most suitable one. Additionally, we aimed to investigate the stability of fGCM levels after defecation because further metabolization by bacterial enzymes can lead to changed results. The Cortisone-EIA performed best in males and females and showed that the stress event led to an fGCM increase of 629% (557% in females and 702% in males) in relation to basal values. We found no significant differences between the sexes, but observed significant differences between different times of day. FGCM concentration significantly changed after eight hours at room temperature. Our study successfully validated the non-invasive measurement of fGCM as a stress indicator in Common Buzzards and could therefore lay the foundation for future studies providing new insights for animal welfare research in Buzzards. Simple Summary: Monkeys in urban spaces are often labeled as 'pests' by people who share spaces with them, mainly driven by their behavior to adapt and survive in a human-dominated environment. In Malaysia, there has been an increase in complaints about urban monkeys, which drives management strategies mainly to reduce human populations that impact the animals' welfare and conservation. Understanding the dynamics between monkeys, people, and the urban ecosystem is the first step to identifying the drivers of the complaints. This study investigates the types of ecological activities of the long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) at an urban tourism site and how human activity influences it. Monkeys were impacted negatively by the presence of humans. Less affiliative interactions were performed when human traffic was high; for example, less social behavior was seen in the group. The monkeys also used anthropogenic structures predominantly when people were present and would spend time on natural structures when people were not. This study supports evidence that monkeys alter behaviors to adapt to living in urban spaces. A structured management plan needs to consider these dynamics to manage complaints. The increasing overlap of resources between human and long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) (LTM) populations have escalated human–primate conflict. In Malaysia, LTMs are labeled as a 'pest' species due to the macaques' opportunistic nature. This study investigates the activity budget of LTMs in an urban tourism site and how human activities influence it. Observational data were collected from LTMs daily for a period of four months. The observed behaviors were compared across differing levels of human interaction, between different times of day, and between high, medium, and low human traffic zones. LTMs exhibited varying ecological behavior patterns when observed across zones of differing human traffic, e.g., higher inactivity when human presence is high. More concerning is the impact on these animals' welfare and group dynamics as the increase in interactions with humans takes place; we noted increased inactivity and reduced intra-group interaction. This study highlights the connection that LTMs make between human activity and sources of anthropogenic food. Background: There are numerous complex barriers and facilitators to continuously wearing hearing protection devices (HPDs) for noise-exposed workers. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between HPD wearing behavior and hearing protection knowledge and attitude, HPD wearing comfort, and work-related factors. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 524 noise-exposed workers in manufacturing enterprises in Guangdong Province, China. Data were collected on hearing protection knowledge and attitudes, HPD wearing comfort and behavior, and work-related factors through a questionnaire. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), we tested the association among the study variables. Results: Among the total workers, 69.47% wore HPD continuously, and the attitudes of hearing protection (26.17 ± 2.958) and total HPD wearing comfort (60.13 ± 8.924) were satisfactory, while hearing protection knowledge (3.54 ± 1.552) was not enough. SEM revealed that hearing protection knowledge had direct effects on attitudes (β = 0.333, p < 0.01) and HPD wearing behavior (β = 0.239, p < 0.01), and the direct effect of total HPD wearing comfort on behavior was β = 0.157 (p < 0.01). The direct effect also existed between work shifts and behavior (β=-0.107, p < 0.05). Indirect relationships mainly existed between other work-related factors, hearing protection attitudes, and HPD wearing behavior through knowledge. Meanwhile, work operation had a direct and negative effect on attitudes (β=-0.146, p < 0.05), and it can also indirectly and positively affect attitudes through knowledge (β = 0.08, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The behavior of wearing HPD was influenced by hearing protection knowledge, comfort in wearing HPD, and work-related factors. The results showed that to improve the compliance of noise-exposed workers wearing HPD continuously when exposed to noise, the HPD wearing comfort and work-related factors must be taken into consideration. In addition, we evaluated HPD wearing comfort in physical and functional dimensions, and this study initially verified the availability of the questionnaire scale of HPD wearing comfort. Microglia are sexually dimorphic, yet, this critical aspect is often overlooked in neuroscientific studies. Decades of research have revealed the dynamic nature of microglial-neuronal interactions, but seldom consider how this dynamism varies with microglial sex differences, leaving a significant gap in our knowledge. This study focuses on P2RY12, a highly expressed microglial signature gene that mediates microglial-neuronal interactions, we show that adult females have a significantly higher expression of the receptor than adult male microglia. We further demonstrate that a genetic deletion of P2RY12 induces sex-specific cellular perturbations with microglia and neurons in females more significantly affected. Correspondingly, female mice lacking P2RY12 exhibit unique behavioral anomalies not observed in male counterparts. These findings underscore the critical, sex-specific roles of P2RY12 in microglial-neuronal interactions, offering new insights into basal interactions and potential implications for CNS disease mechanisms. Sexual dimorphism in vocal signals is found across many bird species. By evaluating correlations among sex, behaviors, and vocalizations, the meaning and utility of sound production may be inferred. Anna's hummingbirds Calypte anna exhibit pronounced sexual dimorphism, with males being larger and having more vibrant coloration than females, but vocal dimorphism in the species is less studied. A common vocalization of Anna's hummingbirds is the chip note, which is produced by both sexes in a wide array of contexts. Here, we correlated temporal parameters of recorded chip notes with individual sex and behavioral contexts gathered from field observations. The production rate of chip notes differed significantly between male and female hummingbirds but did not vary much with behavioral context. Social status in humans, generally reflected by socioeconomic status, has been associated, when constrained, with heightened vulnerability to pathologies including psychiatric diseases. Social hierarchy in mice translates into individual and interdependent behavioral strategies of animals within a group. The rules leading to the emergence of a social organization are elusive, and detangling the contribution of social status from other factors, whether environmental or genetic, to normal and pathological behaviors remains challenging. We investigated the mechanisms shaping the emergence of a social hierarchy in isogenic C57BL/6 mice raised in groups of 4 using conditional mutant mouse models and chemogenetic manipulation of dopamine midbrain neuronal activity. We further studied the evolution of behavioral traits and the vulnerability to psychopathological-like phenotypes according to the social status of the animals. Higher sociability predetermined higher social hierarchy in the colony. Upon hierarchy establishment, higher-ranked mice showed increased anxiety and better cognitive abilities in a working memory task. Strikingly, the higher-ranked mice displayed a reduced activity of dopaminergic neurons within the ventral tegmental area, paired with a decreased behavioral response to cocaine and a decreased vulnerability to depressive-like behaviors following repeated social defeats. The pharmacogenetic inhibition of this neuronal population and the genetic inactivation of glucocorticoid receptor signaling in dopamine-sensing brain areas that resulted in decreased dopaminergic activity promoted accession to higher social ranks. This study examines crash risk factors and develops a severity model for rear-end and angle collisions in roundabouts and its vicinity in non-lane-based heterogeneous traffic. The rear-end severity is primarily influenced by posted speed limits, violation type, collision partner, single-vehicle collision, and vehicle age. Whereas type of violation, collision partner, and presence of road surface condition are the critical influencing factors for determining the severity outcomes of angle collision. The marginal effects of angle collision results indicated that the probability of fatal injury increased by 28% due to heavy-vehicle-vulnerable road user collisions. In the rear-end case, risk factors such as collision partners (heavy vehicles-vulnerable road users) increased by 18% and single-vehicle collisions increased by 25%, highly influencing the severity of fatal injury at roundabouts. Notably, rear-end collisions exhibit higher severity compared to angle collisions. This study provides valuable insights for developing strategies to mitigate roundabout collision severity. A public health emergency such as the COVID-19 pandemic has behavioral, mental and physical implications in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). To what extent the presence of a transplant further increases this burden is not known. Therefore, we compared T1D patients with an islet or pancreas transplant (β-cell Tx; n = 51) to control T1D patients (n = 272). Fear of coronavirus infection was higher in those with β-cell Tx than without (Visual Analogue Scale 5.0 (3.0-7.0) vs. 3.0 (2.0-5.0), p = 0.004) and social isolation behavior was more stringent (45.8% vs. 14.0% reported not leaving the house, p < 0.001). A previous β-cell Tx was the most important predictor of at-home isolation. Glycemic control worsened in patients with β-cell Tx, but improved in control patients (ΔHbA1c +1.67 ± 8.74 vs. -1.72 ± 6.15 mmol/mol, p = 0.006; ΔTime-In-Range during continuous glucose monitoring -4.5% (-6.0%-1.5%) vs. +3.0% (-2.0%-6.0%), p = 0.038). Fewer patients with β-cell Tx reported easier glycemic control during lockdown (10.4% vs. 22.6%, p = 0.015). All T1D patients, regardless of transplantation status, experienced stress (33.4%), anxiety (27.9%), decreased physical activity (42.0%), weight gain (40.5%), and increased insulin requirements (29.7%). In conclusion, T1D patients with β-cell Tx are increasingly affected by a viral pandemic lockdown with higher fear of infection, more stringent social isolation behavior and deterioration of glycemic control. Background: Nurses with a strong professional self-concept tend to exhibit a positive mindset and strong work engagement, delivering high-quality patient care. Although numerous quantitative studies have examined the factors impacting professional self-concept, there remains a limited exploration of these factors from the perspective of nurses themselves. Methods: This qualitative descriptive study uses the PERMA theory and Social Cognitive Theory as the theoretical framework. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 nurses from six public hospitals in China. The data were analyzed thematically using a combination of inductive and deductive approaches. Results: Nurses' understanding of professional self-concept could be divided into four categories: professional identity, competence, care, and knowledge. Factors influencing nurses' professional self-concept were categorized into eight subthemes in three domains: (1) personal factors, including psychological qualities and attitude towards the nursing profession; (2) occupational-related behavioral factors, including role-oriented behavior and knowledge-oriented behavior; and (3) work environment and external factors, including external evaluation and perceptions of nurses, time allocation, nursing work tasks, work atmosphere, school education, and perceived supports. Conclusions: This study found that, although nurses had different personal experiences, their perceptions of professional self-concept were similar. Nurses' professional self-concept is a multidimensional concept and involves various factors, such as personality, work-related characteristics, environment, and family. To thrive in a nursing career, nurses must discern the factors that can enhance or hinder their professional self-concept. By identifying and adjusting these factors, personalized support and positive interventions can be tailored to meet nurses' specific needs, which ultimately nurtures their professional development. Aim: We aim to describe the behavioral phenotype of children and adolescents with the good to intermediate attenuated form of non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH) and to explore associations between the behavioral phenotype and age, sex, plasma glycine levels and drug treatment. Method: Parents of children with attenuated NKH completed questionnaires assessing maladaptive behavior, adaptive behavior, social communication, speech/language development and motor development in addition to demographic and medical questions. Results and interpretation: Twelve children, age 6 to 21y, functioned at mild to severe intellectual disability levels. Their speech/language development was in line with their developmental quotient. Relative to their intellectual functioning, their motor development and communication were weaker in comparison to their general development. Their adaptive behavior, however, appeared a relative strength. There was no evidence for autism spectrum disorder occurring more frequently than expected, rather social skills, except for communication, were rated as a relative strength. Maladaptive behaviors with ADHD-like characteristics were present in more than two thirds of children. Maladaptive behaviors were significantly related to female sex and to taking dextromethorphan, but no significant relation between plasma glycine levels and behavior was found. Future studies will need to evaluate causality in the observed relation between dextromethorphan use and maladaptive behaviors. Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/frontotemporal dementia (ALS/FTD) are debilitating neurodegenerative diseases for which there are currently no cures. Familial cases with known genetic causes make up less than 10% of these diseases, and little is known about the underlying mechanisms that contribute to sporadic disease. Accordingly, it is important to expand investigations into possible pathways that may contribute to disease pathophysiology. Glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase 2 (GDE2 or GDPD5) is a membrane-bound enzyme that acts at the cell surface to cleave the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor that tethers distinct proteins to the membrane. GDE2 abnormally accumulates in intracellular compartments in the brain of patients with AD, ALS, and ALS/FTD, indicative of GDE2 dysfunction. Mice lacking GDE2 (Gde2KO) show neurodegenerative changes such as neuronal loss, reduced synaptic proteins and synapse loss, and increased Aβ deposition, raising the possibility that GDE2 disruption in disease might contribute to disease pathophysiology. However, the effect of GDE2 loss on behavioral function and learning/memory has not been characterized. Results: Here, we show that GDE2 is expressed throughout the adult mouse brain in areas including the cortex, hippocampus, habenula, thalamus, and amygdala. Gde2KO and WT mice were tested in a set of behavioral tasks between 7 and 16 months of age. Compared to WT, Gde2KO mice display moderate hyperactivity that becomes more pronounced with age across a variety of behavioral tests assessing novelty-induced exploratory activity. Additionally, Gde2KO mice show reduced startle response, with females showing additional defects in prepulse inhibition. No changes in anxiety-associated behaviors were found, but Gde2KOs show reduced sociability. Notably, aged Gde2KO mice demonstrate impaired short/long-term spatial memory and cued fear memory/secondary contextual fear acquisition. Conclusions: Taken together, these observations suggest that loss of GDE2 leads to behavioral deficits, some of which are seen in neurodegenerative disease models, implying that loss of GDE2 may be an important contributor to phenotypes associated with neurodegeneration. KCNB1-associated encephalopathy is characterized by intellectual disability (ID), autism spectrum disorder and epilepsy. Specific treatments are still lacking. We describe a 12-year-old boy with severe ID and treatment-resistant seizures due to a pathogenic KCNB1 variant. His EEG showed a CSWS pattern. Aged 11, he started treatment with highly purified cannabidiol (CBD) and has been seizure free for 18 months, with significant EEG and social skills improvements. This suggests CBD may benefit CSWS, likely due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Some preclinical studies also indicate CBDs interact with voltage-gated channels, leading us to speculate its possible role for treating KCNB1 related encephalopathy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and aims. The introduction of accreditation criteria for hospitals has generated increased interest in applying the nursing process to clinical practice and developing nursing care plans. Nursing diagnosis plays a pivotal role in the formulation of these care plans. The objective of the study is to investigate the correlation between nursing diagnosis education and nurses' intentions, attitudes toward the use of nursing diagnosis and the behavior in using it in practice; to explore the differences between nurses' intentions, attitudes and behavior, considering nurses' socio-demographic and professional data. Methods. A cross-sectional design was used. A web-based survey was applied to gather data. A sample of 664 hospital nurses was recruited from five Romanian hospitals. Results. Education on nursing diagnosis showed significant results in relation to nurses' intentions (F(2,126.35) = 23.99, p < 0.001), attitudes (χ2 (2, N = 664) = 44.62, p < 0.001) and behavior (F(2,167.69) = 29.53, p < 0.001) in using it in clinical practice. Nurses with education highly focused on nursing diagnosis have significantly stronger intention to use it, more positive attitudes and higher behavior in using it in clinical practice compared to nurses whose education simply had included a nursing diagnosis course, or nurses without any education on the topic. Significant differences were identified in intention (t (83.86) = -4.49, p < 0.001) and attitudes (U = 12697.50, z = - 3.99, p < 0.001, r = -0.0006) of management nurses compared to clinical nurses. Conclusion. Nursing education on nursing diagnosis significantly impacts nurses' intentions, attitudes, and behavior in their daily practice. Some theories have proposed that autistic individuals have difficulty learning predictive relationships. We tested this hypothesis using a serial reaction time task in which participants learned to predict the locations of a repeating sequence of target locations. We conducted a large-sample online study with 61 autistic and 71 neurotypical adults. The autistic group had slower overall reaction times, but demonstrated sequence-specific learning equivalent to the neurotypical group, consistent with other findings of typical procedural memory in autism. The neurotypical group, however, made significantly more prediction-related errors early in the experiment when the stimuli changed from repeated sequences to random locations, suggesting certain limited behavioural differences in the learning or utilization of predictive relationships for autistic adults. Causes of behaviour that challenge in dementia are often thought to be due to reversible factors, such as a urine infection or disrupted sleep‐wake cycle. In this review, the authors consider a definition of behaviour that challenges commonly cited causes and management models. The STOMP (stopping over‐medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both with psychotropic medicines) initiative and NICE guidelines regarding the management of challenging behaviour in adults with intellectual disability (ID) promote the use of non‐pharmacological approaches ahead of medication, with an emphasis also on reducing dosage or stopping medication where appropriate. Here the authors report on the findings of a service evaluation looking at how often a community intellectual disability psychiatry clinic initiates non‐pharmacological approaches in cases referred for challenging behaviour, and importantly whether this impacts the dosages of medication subsequently prescribed. Objective: To analyse the scientific evidence regarding the factors associated with risk behavior in men in relation to the increase in sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Method: An integrative review based on a bibliographic search of the PubMed, WoS, CINHAL, and Cochrane databases. Results/Discussion: 151 articles were identified applying the following selection criteria: a) use of English or Spanish, and b) publication between 2015 and 2021. 128 articles were discarded after reading the title and abstract, leaving a total of 23. In accordance with the adapted version of the Precede-Proceed Model, the following factors associated with the presence of STIs: predisposing factors: drug use, alcohol, multiple partners, STI diagnosis, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) administration, and sexual orientation; facilitating factors of risk behavior: unprotected sexual intercourse, needle exchange; and reinforcing factors/predictors of behavior change: early diagnosis, use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), educational interventions and health programs. All these factors should be considered in a socio-demographic and cultural context along with factors such as age, country of origin, migrant status, work or income level, and educational level. Conclusion: The prevalence of STIs has decreased, but further improvements are necessary. Identification of all the factors associated with risk behavior and the application of the Precede-Proceed method can help to strengthen the impact of educational interventions designed by health professionals with regard to changing sexual behavior. Researchers have attempted to explore the trajectory of discursive practices that define social and physical distancing and its impact on human psychology. Further, the study looks at the communication strategies that have been mediated to create a mediatized reality focused on keeping a safe distance from one another to prevent the spread of the virus that caused self-isolation, compelled quarantine, and worry over health issues like psychological distress, Depression, and mental anxiety. Researchers have incorporated mediation, analyzing the narratives around societal and cultural practices that are integral to societal behavioral patterns. Implementing physical distancing in India happened because many communities understood social distancing along caste lines. Human cytochrome P450 2F1, as well as its ortholog 2F3 in domestic goat, is considered to be a rather unusual enzyme. The only type of reaction it catalyzes has been described: the conversion of skatole, a product of anaerobic tryptophan metabolism, into a pulmonary toxin. Endogenous substrates of CYP2F are unknown, and although more than 30 years have passed since the discovery of the enzyme, its biological role remains unclear. We hypothesized that the physiological functions of CYP2F can be specifically implemented in the brain, remaining previously unnoticed owing to the high compartmentalization of the organ. Using open data, we studied the covariation of the expression of CYP2F1 and genes for behavioral traits: in the human brain, as well as the polymorphism of their orthologs and CYP2F3 in 180 populations of domestic goats (Capra hircus). Two SNPs were found in the CYP2F3 gene, one of which had pronounced traces of selection, and the frequency of homozygotes increased with geographic distance from the center of domestication. Expression of CYP2F1 mRNA in the human brain also had regional specificity. In both species, factor analysis revealed the relationship between CYP2F1/3 and a number of genes regulating behavior: the serotonin transporter SLC6A4 and its receptor HTR2A3, the ABCB1 transporter, the purine receptor P2RX7, the GABA receptor GABRA4, the circadian rhythm regulator PER3, and T-cadherin CDH13. Thus, analysis of the genomic data of the domestic goat and human transcriptomic data revealed the evolutionary and functional relationships of CYP2F cytochromes and neurochemical systems for regulating behavior. Antinatalism is an emerging philosophy and practice that challenges pronatalism, the prevailing philosophy and practice in reproductive matters. We explore justifications of antinatalism—the arguments from the quality of life, the risk of an intolerable life, the lack of consent, and the asymmetry of good and bad—and argue that none of them supports a concrete, understandable, and convincing moral case for not having children. We identify concentration on possible future individuals who may or may not come to be as the main culprit for the failure and suggest that the focus should be shifted to people who already exist. Pronatalism's hegemonic status in contemporary societies imposes upon us a lifestyle that we have not chosen yet find almost impossible to abandon. We explicate the nature of this imposition and consider the implications of its exposure to different stakeholders with varying stands on the practice of antinatalism. Imposition as a term has figured in reproductive debates before, but the argument from postnatal, mental, and cultural imposition we launch is new. It is the hitherto overlooked and underdeveloped justification of antinatalism that should be solid and comprehensible enough to be used even by activists in support of their work. The use of motion pictures for research has a long history, of course, but beyond documenting a phenomenon and then projecting it for demonstration, scientists using this technology spent much energy figuring out how to extract information from a strip of film. Understanding film (or audiovisual) analysis is therefore necessary to grasping the relationship between an object of study, moving-image technology, and scientific evidence. This article explores one common technique within that history of film analysis: projecting a frame of the motion picture and then tracing the object of study onto paper, which was especially important for behavioral sciences such as developmental psychology or ethology. Behavior became tangible through a variety of means, but for those who relied on film for their observations, such as developmental psychologist Arnold Gesell, behavior took form at least partly through the process of tracing. Gesell's use of this technique reveals the broader functions of tracing as well as the patterns that emerge from its interplay with other inscriptions in the creation of evidence. The issue of poor sexual performance of some male giant pandas seriously impairs the growth and the genetic diversity of the captive population, yet there is still no clear understanding of the cause of the loss of this ability and its underlying mechanism. In this study, we analyzed the gut microbiota and its function in 72 fecal samples obtained from 20 captive male giant pandas, with an equal allocation between individuals capable and incapable of natural mating. Additionally, we investigated fecal hormone levels and behavioral differences between the two groups. A correlation analysis was then conducted among these factors to explore the influencing factors of their natural mating ability. The results showed significant differences in the composition of gut microbiota between the two groups of male pandas. The capable group had significantly higher abundance of Clostridium sensu stricto 1 (padjusted =.0021, GLMM), which was positively correlated with fatty acid degradation and two‐component system functions (Spearman, padjusted <.05). Additionally, the capable group showed higher gene abundance in gut microbiota function including purine and pyrimidine metabolism and galactose metabolism, as well as pathways related to biological processes such as ribosome and homologous recombination (DEseq2, padjusted <.05). We found no significant differences in fecal cortisol and testosterone levels between the two groups, and no difference was found in their behavior either. This paper examines potential associations of loneliness with laboratory data and specific psychosocial and behavioral attitudes. The sample collection took place in an urban Primary Health Care unit between May and July 2023, consecutively, and once exclusion criteria were implemented. Participants were aged between 40 and 75 years. Routine laboratory test results upon study initiation and six months before were used. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Loneliness Scale (Version 3), blood glucose, serum lipids, Fibrosis-4 index, and Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) were assessed through hierarchical multiple logistic regression analysis. Based on full model (3rd) analysis, those who were engaged in an individual sport or activity or had contacts with more friends presented significantly lower odds for increased loneliness levels (odds ratio (OR): 0.28 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.09–0.91], p = 0.034 and OR: 0.76 [95%CI 0.66–0.88], p < 0.001, respectively). The consumption of alcohol was associated with increased loneliness (OR: 5.55 [95%CI 1.42–21.63], p = 0.014). Elevated triglyceride levels were linked with moderate or no loneliness (OR: 0.20 [95%CI 0.05–0.83], p = 0.026), while an increased LDL/HDL atherosclerotic index was related to increased subjective loneliness (OR: 4.50 [95%CI 1.12–18.13], p = 0.035). The need for holistic approaches—involving primary care personnel—in understanding and addressing loneliness, recognizing its multifaceted nature as well as the diverse factors that contribute to this issue, is considered challenging. Syndromic autism refers to autism spectrum disorder diagnosed in the context of a known genetic syndrome. The specific manifestations of any one of these syndromic autisms are related to a clinically defined genetic syndrome that can be traced to certain genes and variants, genetic deletions, or duplications at the chromosome level. The genetic mutations or defects in single genes associated with these genetic disorders result in a significant elevation of risk for developing autism relative to the general population and are related to recurrence with inheritance patterns. Additionally, these syndromes are associated with typical behavioral characteristics or phenotypes as well as an increased risk for specific behavioral or psychiatric disorders and clinical findings. Knowledge of these associations helps guide clinicians in identifying potentially treatable conditions that can help to improve the lives of affected patients and their families.
