In this research we studied the most frequently used reformulation markers in the PRESEEA corpus of the city of Seville: explanatory o sea, recapitulative bueno, rectifying bueno, recapitulative en fin, recapitulative o sea and explanatory es decir. Specifically, we focused on pointing out the main discursive values found in the sample and their diastratic distribution. After the analysis we could verify that these reformulators acquired different roles, such as: to specify a previous information by adding data or examples (explanatory function); to express a synthesis or conclusion, sometimes with modal nuances (recapitulatory function); or to totally or partially correct what was previously said (rectificatory function). In addition, the correlation with social variables revealed some interesting trends, such as the more widespread use among women of bueno, both recapitulative and rectifying; the greater presence of explanatory o sea in the first age groups and of the recapitulative bueno among the youngest subjects; and the concentration of most uses of es decir and en fin for these two functions among older speakers and those with more educational attainment level. In this research we present a sociolinguistic study on the variation of the/s/in implosive position in the Spanish spoken in the city of Seville. For this purpose, the work is based on PRESEEA materials from the high educational level of Seville's citizens, which in made of semi-structured surveys recollected between 2012 and 2014. The results have been obtained through a quantitative study of the data and after a application of stadistic correlations and logistic regression analyses in order to observe the influence of the independent variables in the pronunciation of the/s/implosive consonant when all the factors act simultaneously. The aim of this paper is to analyze what linguistic and social factors influence the production of the different articulatory variants of the phoneme/s/(sibilance, aspiration, elisión, assimilation and aspiration with assimilation). The results show that the aspirated allophone [h] is the most frequent variant, reaching the highest percentages, followed by the elision, which contrasts with the results obtained in others linguistic communities of Andalusia (e.g.: Málaga, Jaén, Granada) where it is observed that the most used variant is the elision. Sociolinguistics is the study of the relationship between language and society. Despite the sensitivity of that interface, the organization of knowledge development is clustered in trends, or waves, that set and support a hegemony, which is maintained by the funding guidelines and the social bias that maintains the habitus. I show how education is the key to shifting agendas and recreate a path that reveals the emerging spaces of non-hegemonic agendas in Brazilian sociolinguistics. To do so, I follow the proposal of organization in waves and its resignification in the Brazilian research scenario, with special attention to the fourth wave, that of sociolinguistic activism. En este artículo se apunta a analizar los (micro)discursos que se encuentran en los baños públicos de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza - Argentina Se focalizan las temáticas que se abordan, la clase de diálogos que se establecen y las valoraciones que se ponen de manifiesto. Se trata de una investigación de tipo cualitativo y exploratorio. Se trabaja con un corpus de imágenes recopilado en los baños públicos de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo en el mes de junio de 2022.

El presente estudio sociolingüístico versa sobre el heheo, la articulación debilitada de /s/ y /θ/ en situación explosiva, en la comunidad de habla de Loja (Granada). Sigue la metodología propia de la sociolingüística sincrónica, basada en la recogida de datos in situ mediante entrevistas grabadas con informantes locales. Se parte de la siguiente hipótesis: el heheo no es un fenómeno fonético propio del habla inculta; sino que está presente en el habla de todos los sectores de la población, independientemente del nivel socioeducativo del hablante. El objetivo principal es analizar qué sectores de la población incorporan este rasgo fonético en su habla. Tras el análisis estadístico de la variable dependiente (realización de /θs/) en función de diferentes variables sociales (sexo, edad y nivel educativo), se concluye que la hipótesis de partida se cumple: el heheo es un fenómeno transversal que no entiende de niveles socioeducativos.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo investigar los usos ofensivos y reapropiados de la palabra bollera en Madrid. Se considera que la orientación sexual del emisor es muy relevante para interpretar el uso del término como ofensivo o no ofensivo; asimismo, se piensa que algunos factores sociales pueden ser pertinentes para evaluar el uso de esta palabra (género, orientación sexual, edad y nivel de instrucción). Así, se creó una encuesta online para recoger y analizar actitudes hacia este término. En dicha encuesta, se ofrecían cuatro situaciones comunicativas no amenazantes distintas de uso de bollera, variando la orientación sexual de las hablantes para que los encuestados valorasen este contraste. Los resultados, procesados con el programa SPSS, muestran que los informantes perciben diferencias entre las situaciones comunicativas, además de valorar más positivamente a las emisoras no heterosexuales del cuestionario. Los factores sociales de los informantes han resultado relevantes en esta evaluación.

Swear words are subject to strong social stigma. Speakers monitor their linguistic uses depending on their interlocutor (BELL, 1984), and by observing the linguistic monitoring of the same speaker in two different situations, we can access his/her sociolinguistic awareness. This study is qualitative and quantitative in nature and observes the use of profanity to build social personas in two versions of the same book. We compared the frequency of profanity in a handwritten version and in the published version of Feijão de Cego, by Vladimir Carvalho, and analyzed the metalinguistic comments present in the characters' speech. The results show the sociolinguistic awareness of the author, who portrays, in the dialogues of his characters, evaluative judgments of stigma about the use of profanity. On the other hand, linguistic monitoring stands out through the significant reduction and/or removal of profanity in the published version of the work, in which swearwords are replaced with less stigmatized lexias. Thus, we found that the effects of linguistic monitoring can be observed not only in oral corpora, but also in literary texts, in which there is a tendency towards linguistic politeness, in order to get closer to its interlocutor (the reader public). Taboo words are emotional words which, in psycho and neurolinguistic studies, present higher attentional capture, are more memorable and complex to process. Such phenomena are connected to dimensions such as arousal and valence, which reflect social, psychological and neurological aspects. The present study, the first of its kind in Brazilian Portuguese, aims to collect normative data in order to characterize what distinguish the processing of taboo words from other emotional words. The study crosses over to sociolinguistics by mapping linguistic attitudes towards taboo words, which are salient stylistic elements, subject to negative judgement, and strongly engage the sociolinguistic monitor. We aim to examine how certain aspects that may underlie beliefs and linguistic attitudes, such as gender, religiosity, habit of engaging in swearing, family tolerance and likelihood to take offense, modulate taboo word perception. Answers given by 164 university students from Rio de Janeiro to an explicit questionnaire about swear words were compared to less explicit judgements on 200 words in order to examine: (i) whether frequency, familiarity, valence, offensiveness, tabooness and arousal set taboo words apart from other categories (positive, negative and neutral words); (ii) the influence of participants' sociocultural profile on such judgements, reflecting sociolinguistic monitoring. We observed that taboo words fall into a distinct category, mainly due to high social tabooness and offensiveness ratings, but also due to low familiarity and negative valence. These results confirm more negative linguistic attitudes regarding taboo words influenced by religiosity, family environment and gender, pertinent aspects to the understanding of these speakers' linguistic identity. In this article, we present a research on the perception of linguistic variation of indicative and subjunctive forms in the expression of imperative mood in Brazilian Portuguese. Based on studies by Scherre (2008; 2012), an increase in the use of indicative forms in Turma da Mônica magazines can be seen, from 7% in 1970 to 81% in 2010 and, based on this result, the hypothesis is that the participants of this experiment mostly prefer the forms in the indicative, both in choosing which forms the characters would use and the forms that the participants would use. We applied a questionnaire, carried out on the Google forms platform, with clippings from the magazines Turma da Mônica Jovem and Chico Bento Moço, both written by Maurício de Sousa, so that the participants indicated, at first, which forms the characters would use and, then, which ones they would use themselves. The responses of 875 participants were analyzed, most of whom were young, female and residing in the southeastern region of Brazil. The results achieved in this study demonstrate a greater tendency to choose the form associated with the indicative in contexts that show the rurality trait of the characters, in the presence of the vocative after the verb, in the immediate temporal context, in affirmative sentences and when the negation is post-verbal. On the other hand, the subjunctive form is favored in communicative situations in which the context of authority is highlighted, in the non-immediate temporal context, in sentences in which the negation is pre-verbal and in the presence of the vocative before the verb. This article has the following goals: a) to reflect on the contributions of the sociolinguistic research that has been developed on the perception/processing of linguistic variation based on experimental data, focusing specifically on the results of studies directed to the cognitive organization of variation in the linguistic knowledge of adults and children, to the effect, on the perception, of constraints verified in production data, and results of studies focused on the effect of the process of change in progress in the perception of the variation by the speech community as well; b) to reflect on the results of studies that, in principle, did not replicate linguistic and social constraints observed in studies with production data and that serve as a basis for the discussion about the challenges of experimental research on variation. Our considerations are based on a set of studies delimited for the purposes of this article, to situate this field of Sociolinguistic studies that has been expanded in this century. We take as a starting point the theoretical premise of Sociolinguistics that variation is inherent to internalized linguistic knowledge. We argue that the study of the processing of variation needs to consider, in its experimental protocols, the hypothesis of the joint action of linguistic, social and cognitive factors, as in Young & Bayley's (1996, p. 253-254) "principle of multiple causes", resumed in Bayley (2002, p. 118-120), a challenge for the experimental research, which needs to isolate and control different types of factors that co-occur and compete in the grammar of the individual and the speech community in different interactional context, whether considering the speaker's or the listener's point of view. The study of the processing of linguistic variation is an interdisciplinary enterprise involving sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and cognitive neuroscience. In order to contribute to descriptive and explanatory accounts regarding the processing and acquisition of variable input, considering the effects of external social pressure, this thematic volume presents 14 papers. The studies contribute to observational and experimental approaches exploring a variety of topics: morphosyntactic phenomena, such as verbal and nominal agreement, grammatical gender inflection, grammatical imperative and relative clauses, as well phenomena at the level of social conscience and linguistic ideologies regarding taboo, prejudice and attitudes towards, especially, minority languages. The results of these studies show the way to broaden existing methodological-theoretic approaches, especially those that seek to reconcile the strictly controlled nature of experimental paradigms and stimuli with the observer's paradox as defined by sociolinguistics. Sociolinguistic is the discipline related with the aspects of the society that influence in the use of the language, as the cultural norms and the context in the speakers' environment. It studies the language like a system of signs in the social context. This paper has as main objective the design of a model for the study of this discipline according to the age of individuals, based on the cognitive fuzzy maps. Fuzzy cognitive maps are tools that allow us to represent the knowledge by means of the relationship of concepts, where for each relationship it is associated a weight in the interval [-1, 1] or [0, 1] that means the degree of each relationship among concepts, and moreover if this it is direct or inverse. The proposed model is an approach to the topic that will allow us carrying out predictions on possible scenarios, besides to spread and to share the results obtained by each one of the investigators interested in the topic. This essay addresses how prosodic change operates in the context of languages in contact. To this end, it is based on a selection of relevant studies in the field of Spanish in contact, either with other Romance languages (Arias, 2012; Carvalho, 2006, 2016; Lipski, 2006) or with indigenous languages of Latin America (Barnes & Michnowicz, 2013; Henriksen & Fafulas, 2017; Hualde & Schwegler, 2008; Van Rijswijk & Muntendam, 2014), as well as with US English (Alvord, 2010). In recent years, the scientific community has consistently focused on the way in which prosody can account for the effects of language contact and also, potentially, those effects deriving from contact-induced language change. Although some studies prefer to tackle the issue either based on historical written sources (Arias, 2012) or within a rather general or inclusive theoretical framework (Lipski, 2006; Carvalho, 2016), multiple researchers have focused on the design and application of online instruments, especially sociolinguistic interviews and/or tasks whose goal is to obtain a favorable context to successfully analyze prosodic change involving languages in contact (Barnes & Michnowicz, 2013; Henriksen & Fafulas, 2017; Alvord, 2010). Finally, we highlight the importance of certain sociolinguistic factors (e.g., social prestige found for a particular variety) in defining and establishing prosodic change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El objetivo de este trabajo es describir los acentos nucleares registrados en los enunciados aseverativos del corpus Norma Lingüística Culta (Lope Blanch 1971) y mostrar los factores que favorecen un determinado patrón entonativo. La descripción prosódica se basa en el modelo métrico-autosegmental (Pierrehumbert 1980, Ladd 2008), el sistema de notación Sp_ToBi (Hualde y Prieto 2015), y el análisis acústico. Los resultados muestran tres tipos de acentos nucleares: i) bajo/descendente L*/H+L*, favorecido por la función informativa de foco estrecho y el grupo etario de 35 a 54 años; ii) bitonal con ascenso prominente L+¡H* –asociado con el contorno circunflejo– favorecido por el foco estrecho; y iii) bitonal con ascenso moderado L+H*, (L+)!H*. Para los dos tipos de acentos bitonales resultó significativa la variable de lugar de origen del padre. Así, se sugiere que en la década de 1970 el contorno circunflejo se producía desde una generación anterior –en el habla de los hombres–, lo cual apoyaría el valor vernáculo del rasgo prosódico. Además, se observa la atenuación del ascenso en los hijos de la generación de migrantes.

A partir del análisis de los índices de frecuencia y de la distribución sociolingüística de los marcadores de reformulación empleados por los hablantes cultos sevillanos en dos momentos cronológicos, esta investigación tiene como principal objetivo detectar posibles procesos de cambio que se hayan producido o que se estén produciendo en el empleo de estas partículas. Para ello utilizamos los materiales del habla de la ciudad hispalense, recopilados en dos etapas distintas, separadas por unos cuarenta años: finales del siglo XX y comienzos del siglo XXI. Cada una de ellas estuvo representada por doce encuestas con un mismo número de palabras. En ambos casos, los informantes fueron clasificados con criterios sociológicos similares (hombres y mujeres con formación académica superior distribuidos en tres grupos de edad). Entre los resultados obtenidos destacamos los siguientes: los encuestados de la primera época hicieron más uso de los reformuladores en sus intervenciones, pero de menos partículas; en ambos estadios fueron más recurrentes los explicativos y los recapitulativos; en los últimos años marcadores como bueno, procedentes del ámbito conversacional, han ampliado sus valores dentro de la función pragmático-discursiva de la reformulación; y el marcador en fin, sin registros entre los más jóvenes de la etapa reciente, ha ido perdiendo protagonismo como recapitulativo entre los hablantes cultos sevillanos.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar como o locutor político recorre à citação de palavras do opositor para transmitir a própria ideologia. Para tal, o locutor manifesta a sua subjetividade através de vários recursos linguísticos. O nosso quadro teórico apoia-se em conceitos enunciativos como “discurso representado” (Rabatel, 2003) e “Ponto De Vista” (Rabatel, 1998). Os aspectos ideológicos são abordados de acordo com a proposta sociolinguística de Thompson (1990) sobre os modos de operação da ideologia. A metodologia centra-se na análise linguística de excertos retirados de três discursos políticos proferidos na ONU. Assim, o objetivo do estudo é caracterizar a inscrição linguística da subjetividade presente na amostra. Com base nos resultados, demonstramos como a citação permite ao locutor introduzir dois pontos de vista contraditórios, assumindo um certo grau de responsabilidade perante as palavras convocadas através de “verbos de processo mental” (Rabatel, 2003), que veiculam opiniões e emoções.

La promoció turística produïda en el context francòfon utilitza cada cop més les llengües minoritàries, tant des del punt de vista qualitatiu com quantitatiu. Aquest article estudia les principals línies d’ús de la llengua corsa dins d’un corpus de textos turístics especialment creat sobre Còrsega. En la variada disciplina que és el turisme, en què les diverses matèries troben espai, la riquesa dels vincles entre llengua i economia constitueix diferents possibilitats d’ús. En aquest article, la llengua fa un recorregut entre les qüestions epilingüístiques i de mercantilització, passant també per la toponímia, l’onomàstica comercial i els àmbits educatiu, cultural i disfòric.

Aquest article, basat en els resultats de l’Enquesta d’usos lingüístics de la població (EULP) del 2018, tracta en primer lloc dels usos lingüístics familiars, després de la transmissió lingüística intergeneracional —que és estudiada de maneres diferents— i finalment del nombre de fills segons la llengua. S’hi tenen en compte, per primera vegada, els resultats de la pregunta sobre la llengua habitual dels fills —present en diverses versions anteriors de les EULP—, que no s’havien explotat fins ara.

El trabajo se inserta en el “Proyecto para el estudio de creencias y actitudes hacia variedades del español en el siglo XXI” (PRECAVES XXI), centrado esta vez en la valoración de bonaerenses frente a la variedad castellana. Se sigue la misma metodología que un estudio previo realizado sobre el andaluz para avanzar en la comparación de la variedad castellana con distintas variedades. Se contemplan dos tipos de identificación (exacta y general) y tres criterios de significancia: semejanza en los resultados de la identificación exacta y general; escala de valoración hacia las variedades y distancia entre valores. Como se vio en el estudio sobre las creencias del andaluz, en relación con el castellano, los bonaerenses también se inclinan hacia el polo negativo en comparación con las otras variedades, tanto en la identificación exacta como en la general. Igual valoración (negativa) asumen al enfrentarla a la propia variedad. La ampliación de la muestra de encuestados que identifican la variedad castellana de manera general permite esbozar algunas conclusiones sociolingüísticas en relación con la edad.

Reseña crítica sobre la obra Lenguas de España: Combatiendo los prejuicios en torno a la realidad lingüística española, de David Pinto Pajares. Publicada en Ediciones TREA (2022).

La definición tradicional de gramaticalización supone una noción de unidireccionalidad; sin embargo, algunos estudios han identificado cambios que presentan una direccionalidad diferente como los cambios de verbos a marcadores discursivos. En la variedad quiteña ecuatoriana se identifica la expresión deverbal ve en la que se da un cambio de la sintaxis al discurso como en ¿Qué más, ve? ¡Achachay, qué frío, ve! ¡Calla, ve! Con base en un corpus de 51 casos recuperados de redes sociales, este estudio se propone describir el comportamiento semántico y funcional de ve siguiendo los postulados de la subjetivización, y determinar si cumple con las características de los marcadores discursivos. A través de un análisis detallado, los datos sugieren que la partícula ve refleja la pérdida del valor léxico del verbo ver y se ha recategorizado como un marcador conversacional que ha adquirido nuevos valores en el discurso.

Neste artigo, exploramos as possibilidades de diálogo entre a sociolinguística e a sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu. Partimos das críticas esboçadas pelo sociólogo francês à linguística moderna, notadamente em Language and symbolic power (Bourdieu, 1991) e Economia das trocas linguísticas (Bourdieu, 2008), e retomamos as ponderações de linguistas que destacaram certas limitações de sua teoria para explicar os fenômenos linguísticos. Focalizando a sociolinguística, argumentamos que esses debates devem ser observados no contexto mais amplo, em que se considerem as condições sociais de constituição e desenvolvimento dessa área de pesquisa. Na conclusão, apresentamos, em linhas gerais, alguns estudos sociolinguísticos desenvolvidos em diálogo com a teoria da prática de Bourdieu, visando não somente evidenciar os pontos de confluência entre as disciplinas, mas, sobretudo, fomentar as reflexões teórico-metodológicas pertinentes a essa proposta interdisciplinar. Nesse sentido, embora não seja possível propor uma conjugação harmoniosa de teorias distintas, visando à sua complementaridade, podemos promover a problematização e análise interpretativa dos conceitos fundamentais produzidos em cada campo e negociar os limites disciplinares, na trilha de uma análise da variação linguística que torne mais visíveis as relações entre a língua e as condições práticas de seu funcionamento.

This paper deals with the relationship between translation and sociolinguistic markedness, examining the case of Sicilian discourse markers in the English subtitling of Young Montalbano, a recent production in the Montalbano cycle. The analysis focuses on a set of markers that are crucial in constructing the text’s dialectal connotation (amunì, talè, nonzi, chi sacciu and ah?). In order to render such connotation, a twofold translation method is put forth consisting of functional translation and differential marking. The study therefore proposes a reflection on the role of discourse markers in the sociolinguistic characterisation of a semiotically complex product such as Montalbano.

El discurso reproducido, también llamado discurso referido o citado, es un tema de gran interés en los estudios del lenguaje. El objetivo de este artículo es describir y analizar los mecanismos sintáctico-semánticos y las funciones pragmático-discursivas, mediante las cuales los hablantes de la zona cafetera caldense construyen sus narrativas conversacionales intercalando discursos directos, indirectos o libres. La descripción y el análisis se logran gracias a un corpus compuesto por 36 narrativas conversacionales. En los resultados, se observa, que el porcentaje de frecuencia de uso del discurso directo supera al del indirecto. Además, se resalta la presencia de los marcadores introductores de cita: dizque y esque. Finalmente, se concluye que el presente trabajo se convierte en el primer estudio del discurso reproducido llevado a cabo en las zonas rurales cafeteras del departamento de Caldas.

Objetiva-se com este trabalho demonstrar como as ferramentas de transcrição de dados ELAN 5.9 (2020) e de análise de corpora LancsBox 5.1.2 (BREZINA; WEILL-TESSIER; MCENERY, 2020) têm contribuído para a transcrição de entrevistas sociolinguísticas realizadas no escopo do Grupo de Estudos em Linguagem, Interação e Sociedade (GELINS) da Universidade Federal de Sergipe, bem como para extração automatizada de fenômenos linguísticos variáveis. Para tanto, apresenta-se as normas pelas quais as entrevistas são transcritas, formas de utilizar o ELAN 5.9 (2020) para transcrição, e por fim, a maneira de fazer a etiquetagem morfológica dos dados e buscas por fenômenos variáveis nos dados de fala utilizando-se a ferramenta LancsBox 5.1.2 (BREZINA; WEILL-TESSIER; MCENERY, 2020). As duas ferramentas têm se mostrado eficientes para uma transcrição alinhada com áudio, para anotação morfológica e buscas automáticas em grandes volumes de textos orais. Este texto contribui para exploração de ferramentas que permitam uma transcrição mais rápida e acurada de dados orais bem como buscas mais automatizadas de grandes volumes de dados.

Haber existencial presenta en español tanto casos de discordancia con su argumento (hubo fiestas) como de concordancia (hubieron fiestas). La RAE y ASALE (2009: 3063) señalan que la concordancia de haber en plural está hoy en expansión en español, mientras que Fernández Soriano y Táboas Baylín, (1999) afirman que, en Latinoamérica, la concordancia es la norma. Estas afirmaciones deben ser aquilatadas con los resultados de estudios sociolingüísticos, que han sido numerosos tanto en España como en América. Sin embargo, resultan difícilmente comparables porque se han basado en distintos corpus y metodologías. Solo aquellos que parten del Proyecto PRESEEA comparten variables y metodología, y, por tanto, pueden proporcionar materiales más realistas acerca del uso de haber concordado. Los resultados de estos estudios apuntan a que las categóricas afirmaciones de las gramáticas de referencia han de ser matizadas, puesto que la división entre el español de América y el de Europa no es el factor determinante en la tasa de concordancia.

A articulação das teses e dissertações defendidas entre si e com relação à missão e propósitos do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da Unioeste (PPGL) é um dos parâmetros de avaliação da pós-graduação brasileira utilizado pela CAPES. O objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar como as pesquisas defendidas de 2006 a 2022 nas áreas de Sociolinguística e de Onomástica estão relacionadas com a missão do PPGL e com as linhas de pesquisas “Linguagem: práticas linguísticas, culturais e de ensino” e “Estudo e descrição de fenômenos linguísticos, culturais e de diversidade”. Para alcançar esse objetivo, foi realizada uma revisão sistemática de literatura mediante a qual foram selecionados 28 resumos de teses e dissertações. Os termos presentes nos resumos foram analisados qualitativamente. Considerou-se como indício de vinculação as seguintes pistas textuais: uso de um mesmo termo ou conjunto de termos em diferentes resumos e /ou uso de termos usados nos textos de descrição de missão e objetivos do Programa e/ou na descrição das linhas e nos resumos. A análise terminológica empreendida evidenciou vinculação da maioria das pesquisas à missão do PPGL voltada ao desenvolvimento acadêmico, científico, tecnológico e cultural das regiões de abrangência da instituição, considerando fenômenos linguísticos, literários, culturais e de ensino e a ambas as linhas de pesquisas. A existência de recorrência de termos usados na descrição da missão e da descrição das linhas de pesquisa revelam compartilhamento terminológico entre os resumos e a missão do programa e dos seguintes nichos de pesquisa na segunda linha de pesquisa também vinculados à missão: o estudo da variação linguística, a investigação sobre crenças e atitudes linguísticas e os estudos onomásticos. Enquanto os nichos revelam vínculos entres as pesquisas produzidas no período, o compartilhamento de termos aponta para o legado do conjunto das investigações tanto para o desenvolvimento da missão e dos propósitos do programa quanto para as futuras teses e dissertações a serem desenvolvidas no mesmo.

En este artículo estudiamos algunos fenómenos que pueden ser considerados resultado del 'influjo' vasco: el orden de elementos en la frase, la sustitución del subjuntivo por el condicional y ciertas peculiaridades en el uso de los pronombres complemento átonos de tercera persona. Creemos que tal afirmación se justifica por razones lingüísticas históricas, de formación del español, y también por razones de contacto sociocultural y lingüístico en el País Vasco, zona en la que conviven ambas lenguas en la actualidad.

El artículo tiene un doble objetivo. Por un lado, pasar revista a los medios de comunicación de mayor importancia en la transmisión de valores contraculturales entre la juventud española (entre ellos la radio, televisión, prensa marginal y el internet), especialmente en el último cuarto del siglo XX. Y por otro, examinar los principales recursos expresivos que conforman el “antilenguaje” que refleja los valores de los jóvenes, en especial el de aquellas subculturas que más han sobresalido en su oposición a la sociedad convencional; estos mecanismos lingüísticos son descritos mnemotécnicamente como “las 4 C’s” (o Cambios): cambio de significante (por truncamiento, sufijación parasítica, deformación y sustitución, ortografía hipercaracterizada), cambio de significado (por metonimia, metáfora y antífrasis), cambio de código (por préstamo de términos procedentes de sociolectos marginales, y de lenguas de prestigio como el inglés) y cambio de registro (por cambio del eufemismo al disfemismo).

The paper aims to study some linguistic features of para-scientific language, by analysing seven brief texts, published online, which are linked to veganism and try to explain the benefits of this way of life to their readers. First of all, peculiar traits of the scientific language are discussed, in order to underline the differences between this particular kind of language, which is based on a full application of the scientific method, and the para-scientific one. The textual corpus shows quite clearly that the authors make specific and regular choices which deal with the lexical, syntactic, semantic, stylistic and rhetorical levels of the language. These choices, moreover, seem to be quite similar to those usually present in the language of deception and in fake texts in general, as both kinds of texts share a common target, i.e. avoiding the traits that are commonly expected in scientific language. This research introduces a sociolinguistic study about a linguistic variation applied in diverse public contexts concerning performance of the following Andalusian politicians in Madrid: Juan Manuel Moreno, Susana Díaz, José Guirao and María Jesús Montero. Some linguistic and extralinguistic factors which characterize their political speech within public performance in the capital city of Spain, are represented here. On one hand, several linguistic changes that arose in the abovementioned cases will be observed, in particular, when they come into contact with standard Spanish. On the other hand, some speech acts performed by the same politicians in Andalusia will also be investigated in order to study their linguistic behavior in both contexts. Our results prove that various linguistic variations do actually occur during their discourses due to dissimilar public contexts. In this paper we propose a reflection on the theoretical and empirical relevance of approaching the study of historical linguistic change study considering marginalia, that is, phenomena that are typologically unexceptional, but which have been ignored in linguistic research. The objective is to draw attention to the tunnel vision that linguistic theories usually entail for those who work within them, since the paradigms themselves and the study methods that are developed within such theories lead to ignoring certain linguistic phenomena relevant to the study of languages which are relegated to the margins of linguistic description. Research in Sociolinguistics of deafs communities is still scarce in Brazil, mainly in relation to the effective use of the Brazilian Sign Language – Libras, in contact with the Portuguese language. Based on this finding, this research aims to describe the sociolinguistic profile of deaf people resulting from communication and contact with the Brazilian Sign Language and the Portuguese language. The corpus is made up of interviews conducted via WhatsApp with 30 deaf people living in low-demographic regions of the State of Tocantins. Partial results reveal that, in addition to Libras and the Portuguese language, respondents employ additional communication strategies, such as homemade sign language and other forms of communication. The aim of the present paper is to investigate intergenerational variation in the realization of interdental fricatives among speakers of Berkani Arabic, a variety spoken in north-eastern Morocco. Our survey is based on data gathered during fieldwork in the city of Berkane in December 2019. It is well known that, unlike mainstream Moroccan dialects, some varieties in the far north-east have retained old interdental fricatives to this day. Yet it seems that these phonemes are slowly fading or have already disappeared in some of the aforementioned vernaculars. This is the case, for instance, in the western division of the Huwwāṛa tribe and in the city of Oujda, respectively. As regards the city of Berkane, a preliminary analysis of our data indicates an almost complete loss of the voiceless interdental/ṯ/and the voiced interdental/ḏ/. Conversely, instances displaying a voiced pharyngealized/ḏ̣/are abundant in the speech of our informants, even if this sound is seemingly in free variation with its dental counterpart/ḍ/. Interestingly, this phonetic variation seems to be related to the age of the speaker. Thus, the number of occurrences of/ḏ̣/is higher among middle-aged and older individuals. Such a finding could be indicative of the regression of/ḏ̣/in the speech of young Berkanis, which may be due to a process of convergence towards the mainstream varieties of Moroccan Arabic. In this article we explore the possibilities of dialogue between sociolinguistics and the Bourdieu's sociology. We start from critiques provided by the French sociologist to modern linguistics, notably in Language and symbolic power (Bourdieu, 1991), and A economia das trocas linguísticas (Bourdieu, 2008), and we resume the considerations of linguists who highlighted certain limitations of the practice theory in order to explain linguistic phenomena. Focusing on sociolinguistics, we argue that these debates must be viewed within a broader context, in which one considers the social conditions of constitution and development of the sociolinguistic field of studies. To conclude, we briefly present some sociolinguistics studies conducted in dialogue with the practice theory of Bourdieu. Not only was this done to highlight the common ground between these disciplines, but also to encourage the theoretical and methodological reflections pertaining to this interdisciplinary proposal. We are aware of the fact that it is not possible to propose a harmonious association of distinct theories so that they could complement each other. However, we would like to propose an inquiry and interpretative analysis of the key concepts formulated in each area and negotiate their disciplinary thresholds. This could lead to an analysis of linguistic variation that would make the relation between language and its practical working conditions more visible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Spanish spoken in the city of Malaga could currently be represented by means of a reliable and compact theoretical model from the works that have been in charge of describing, analyzing and explaining this linguistic variety of southern Spain for more than twenty-five years (Villena Ponsoda, 1996; Ávila Muñoz, 1994, among others). The constants observed in all these works allow us to affirm that the speakers of this city move in a continuum of variation in which the dynamics of convergence and divergence from the standard are governed by underlying prestige patterns that condition the linguistic uses analyzed. This work represents the situation described from a multidimensional model that overlaps various planes: on the one hand, the one corresponding to the vernacular-standard dimension; on the other, the one that draws a dimension governed by values corresponding to the regional standard solidly established in western Andalusia. The conclusions could be extrapolated to the whole of the Andalusian sociolinguistic reality (and, most probably, of southern European Spanish). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper reports on the results of a comparative corpus analysis of texts published in Primorski dnevnik, the Slovenian daily published in Italy, in 2020 and 2021. We contrast these texts with information from Slovenian corpora and language resources. The research is focused on the lexis connected with the Covid-19 epidemic as this topic brings about a number of specifics such as rapid genesis and determinologization, single- or self-referentiality, using loanwords (from English), etc. The research is based on corpus-linguistic survey of 618 issues (two volumes) of the Trieste daily newspaper Primorski dnevnik. We used this body of texts to create a corpus that can be used to discern the differences in the use of lexemes in different datasets. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate the level of difference in the lexis of Standard Slovene on both sides of the border. For this reason, we chose to employ corpus methodology as it allows us to compare large bodies of data. The analysis confirmed our initial hypothesis that there is a high level of variation in language use in this region and that this variation cannot be attributed to the factors that normally explain the deviations from standard language, the effects of languages in contact and minority languages.
