The study presented in this article discusses ancestral African and aphrodiasporic knowledge in order to enhance the teaching of chemistry from the perspective of an anti-racist education. Therefore, a class was given on the foundry and the forging of iron, using the chemical concepts contained in the myth “Ogun creates the forge”. The analyzed fragments identified the relationship between chemical knowledge and ancestral African knowledge, in addition to referring to the discussion on the role of the blacksmith in the struggles of Africans and their descendants in the diaspora.

Based on a detailed inventory of slag and other Protohistoric metallurgy residues, I produced a map of forging sites previously unknown in Alsace. The spatial distribution of remains at the sites themselves enabled me to formulate hypotheses on the location of the forge, whose structure is sometimes light and can be entirely obliterated. My typological classification of slags provides information on the variety of operations accomplished within a workshop and enables an estimation of the iron volumes worked. Based on the workshop facies defined for each site, I was able to classify them according to their position in the chaîne opératoire (production sequence) of the transformation of iron ore into the finished object. My geographic and chronological contextualization of this inventory sheds light on the development of exchanges linked to iron in a region in which no evidence has yet been found for the extraction and transformation of ores in Protohistory.

- Abstract
With more organizational and individual data owners storing their data in the cloud, there is a corresponding need to ensure that such outsourced data can be computed by the data owners or some authorized third parties. In other words, the cloud server performs the requested computation, and returns the computation result to the requesting party. Such a paradigm is referred to as outsourced computation in the literature. A challenge is how one can ensure the correctness of the returned result, and this has been extensively studied in the literature. For example, in 2017, Song et al. proposed a protocol for publicly verifiable computation of polynomials over outsourced data with multiple sources. However, we reveal that a core building block of their protocol allows an adversary to forge the signatures on the outsourced data. Hence, this invalidates the security of the protocol. We also point out their proposal is yet very interesting and useful, only a little improvement can strengthen their proposal to be secure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

64. Data sets describing the circle of life in Ruby hosting, 2003-2016.
- Author

Squire, Megan
- Abstract
Studying software repositories and hosting services can provide valuable insights into the behaviors of large groups of software developers and their projects. Traditionally, most analysis of metadata collected from software project hosting services has been conducted by specifying some short window of time, typically just a few years. To date, few - if any - studies have been built from data comprising the entirety of a hosting facility’s lifespan: from its birth to its death, and rebirth in another form. Thus, the first contribution of this paper is to present two data sets that support the historical analysis of over ten years of collected metadata from the now-defunct RubyForge project hosting site, as well as the follow-on successor to RubyForge, the RubyGems package (“gem”) hosting facility. The data sets and samples of usage demonstrated in this paper include: analyses of overall forge growth over time, presentation of data and analyses of project-level characteristics on both forges and their changes over time (for example in licenses, languages, and so on), and demonstration of how to use developer-level metadata (for example counts of new developers and calculation of developer-project density) to assess changes in person-level activity on both sites over time. Finally, because RubyForge was phased out and the gem-hosting portion of it was replaced by RubyGems, all the gems within RubyForge projects were transferred by project owners and by the site owners themselves into the RubyGems hosting facility. Thus, the data sets in this paper represent a unique opportunity to study projects as they moved from one ecosystem to another, and as such we show several methods for locating related projects between the two forges, and for building a cross-forge, longitudinal project history using information from both forges. These data sets and sample analyses in this paper will be relevant to researchers studying long-term software evolution, and distributed, hosted, or collaborative software development environments.

67. A New Institutional Economic Perspective on Alternative Governance Mechanisms at the Local Government Level

The ‘new institutional economics’ (NIE) can go a long way towards comprehending the emerging complexities of local government. As local bodies seek to forge collaborative partnerships with other organisations, they have to decide whether to solve horizontal co-ordination problems through market, hierarchy or network mechanisms. NIE can show that where other governance mechanisms are incomplete or subject to high transaction costs, trust and co-operation can informally develop through the process by which network interactions become embedded within each other. We show how this approach can be revised to take into account the expressive dimension of behaviour in hope-based networks whose members are bound together not so much by structures of resource dependence as by the hope and trust they place in the advancement of common goals. The excavations at the bottom of the hillside of the locality of “Foujouin” revealed a small settlement area of the early Middle Ages. The farm plots, buildings, burials and two areas of storage are settled along a trackway.. Set apart a forge, the rest of buildings are living houses associated with agricultural appendices. The activities highlighted within the settlement are not very diversified. A forge of small dimensions was discovered. We were also able to highlight farming activities : agriculture and breeding : cattle, pigs, sheeps and goats; cultivation and storage of crops (cereals and vegetables) which was stored in battery silos or in granaries. This rural settlement presents a continuous activity until the end of its occupation. No anterior settlement was detected in the area explored.

This work was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council, under Grant ES/N009614/1 (Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats) with funding from the UK Intelligence Community and participating universities. Learning in extremist settings is often treated as operational, with little regard to how aspiring participants in extremist settings engage with complex and abstract ideological material. This paper examines learning in the context of the amorphous network of digital channels that compose the extreme-right online milieu. Through an in-depth qualitative analysis, we explore how well the prevailing model of extremist ideological learning (in ‘communities of practice’) accounts for the behaviour of aspiring participants of Fascist Forge, a now-defunct extreme-right web forum. The findings suggest that some of the social aspects of communities of practice have been replicated in the online setting of Fascist Forge. However, for a combination of technical and ideological reasons, the more directed and nurturing aspects of learning have not. Several issues are raised about the role of ideological learning in online communities, notably the open accessibility of extremist material, the lack of ideological control leading to potential mutation and innovation by self-learners, and the role of digital learning in the preparation, shaping and recruitment of individuals for real world organising and activism. This paper investigated the high cycle fatigue behavior of a forged Mg–7Gd–5Y–1Nd–0.5Zr alloy with different stress concentration factor (Kt), under different stress ratio (R), and along different loading direction. The smooth specimen (Kt = 1), under R = 0.1 and along longitude direction, shows a high fatigue strength of 162 MPa at 107 cycles. The fatigue behavior of the forged Mg–7Gd–5Y–1Nd–0.5Zr alloy exhibits a high sensitive to the notch. Moreover, change of stress ratio from 0.1 to −1 may also result in a bad fatigue property. The flux inclusions were elongated along longitude direction and/or transverse direction during the forging process of the Mg–7Gd–5Y–1Nd–0.5Zr alloy. The interface between the flux inclusion and the matrix may debond and serve as the crack initiation site during the fatigue loading process, leading to the deterioration of the fatigue property along thickness direction and a high anisotropic fatigue behavior between longitude direction and thickness direction.

Several archaeological investigations have taken place in the village of Lockarp, just south of Malmö, Scania. These investigations have revealed the remains of a large Viking Age and early medieval farm, or manor. The aim of this article is to discuss the transition from pagan- ism to Christianity on the basis of two buildings in the Lockarp manor that are interpreted as a forge and a chapel. The buildings were situated inside a courtyard, in what was interpreted as the private, innermost area of the manor. The author describes the manor’s social status and the location of these two buildings, and dis- cusses whether the buildings are visible signs of the re- ligious transition.

EnglishToward the end of the 60s musical groups with origins in the corralero sound from the Colombian Caribbean coast made several tours in Mexico. Their influence led to the emergence of local groups in the Afro-descendant coastal strip of Costa Chica in southern Mexico. One of these groups, Mar Azul, collaborated to forge the so-called merequetengue, a music genre that served as an identity vehicle and a mixture of local aesthetics, evidencing glocal processes and regional locality. Later on, the importance this group acquired led to translocal processes, as it became a substantial part of the musical life of the migrant coastal population, both in Mexico City and in several states of the USA. This paper analyzes these processes –which show South-South relations between Afro-descendant rural populations- making use of the notions of glocality, regional locality, and musical translocality.

In the present work, ribbed beams have been manufactured by forging fiberglassreinforced polyamide using two different temperatures. The higher processing temperature studied (300 ºC) ensures the filling of the mold in the forging/GMT process, but also increases the fiber-matrix separation phenomenon, limiting the length of the rib with fiber (11%). This heterogeneity in the fiber content translates into a loss of stiffness and strength in the area of the rib with respect to the area of the base, of 70 and 60% respectively, for the most severe case (300 ºC). The second contribution of the work has been the demonstration of additive manufacturing, more specifically pellet extrusion, as a rapid prototyping technology in structural studies, since the stiffness of the 3D printing component was in intermediate values of the two forged prototypes, but its strength and elongation at break have been even higher., En el presente trabajo se han fabricado vigas nervadas mediante forja de poliamida reforzada con fibra de vidrio utilizando dos temperaturas diferentes, 270 ºC y 300 ºC.

- Abstract
The Catalan forge was a special smelting process derived from the artisanal forge and could be distinguished from the latter by certain characteristics and its final product. The Catalan forge process originated in Catalonia and it was used in mountainousregions where its prime material was readily available. This prime material, e.g. iron oxide, and the forge’s equipment, including its furnace, differed from those marking the traditional forge and entailed a series a changes. Thanks to the high quality of its production, the Catalan forge method became known worldwide. Indeed, smiths from all around the globe tried to use it in order to obtain a similar product. The aim of this paper is to describe the Catalan forge process for obtaining quality ferrous alloys, as seen from the standpoint of today’s technology.

SUMMARY We expand the application of spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) from typical 1-D Vs profiles to quasi-3-D imaging via Bayesian Monte Carlo inversion (BMCI) using a dense nodal array (49 nodes) located at the Utah Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) site. Combinations of 4 and 9 geophones in subarrays provide for 36 and 25 1-D Vs profiles, respectively. Profiles with error bars are determined by calculating coherency functions that fit observations in a frequency range of 0.2–5 Hz. Thus, a high-resolution quasi-3-D Vs model from the surface to 2.0 km depth is derived and shows that surface-parallel sedimentary strata deepen to the west, consistent with a 3-D seismic reflection survey. Moreover, the resulting Vs profile is consistent with a Vs profile derived from distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data located in a borehole at the FORGE site. The quasi-3-D velocity model shows that the base of the basin dips ∼22° to the west and topography on the basement interface coincident with the Mag Lee Wash suggests that the bedrock interface is an unconformity.

Abstract This study investigates the rugby experiences promoted in the two first decades of the 20th century in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Recife and São Paulo - where the British had a remarkable presence due to the process of economic diversification. Newspapers and magazines published in the period were used as sources. It discusses the peculiarities of foreign influence in the making of Brazil’s sports field at an important time of its consolidation. It debates how a practice so closely related to British identity was taken over and represented in a country that sought to forge an idea of national culture from readings of manifestations from different countries. It concludes that rugby played an intermediate position between cricket and football. The initiatives were not enough to make that sport popular. In fact, this case allows us to perceive the particularities and limits of the process of cultural transit. More than 50% of atypical meningiomas regrow within 5 years after surgery. FORGE score is a newly created tool to estimate the MIB-1 index in cranial meningiomas. In this investigation, we aimed to assess the predictive value of the FORGE score in combination with major diagnostic criteria of atypical meningioma (brain invasion, mitotic count ≥ 4) regarding recurrence in atypical meningiomas. We included patients operated on primary atypical meningiomas in our center from 2011 to 2019. The study included 71 patients (58% women, median age 63 years). ROC curves revealed a superiority of FORGE score combined with histopathological diagnostic criteria of atypical meningioma (AT-FORGE) in the prediction of tumor progression compared to FORGE score only (AUC: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.54–0.91, cut-off: ≥5/<, 5, sensitivity: 75%, specificity: 78%). Patients with an AT-FORGE score ≥ 5 had a shorter time to tumor progression (32.8 vs. 71.4 months, p <, 0.001) in the univariable analysis. Multivariable cox regression analysis revealed significant predictive value of Simpson grade >, II, presence of multiple meningiomas and AT-FORGE score ≥ 5 for tumor progression. The combination of histopathological diagnostic criteria for atypical meningioma with FORGE score might facilitate an effective identification of patients with an atypical meningioma who have an increased risk of tumor progression.

There are many applications in science and engineering modeling where an accurate representation of a complex model geometry in the form of a mesh is important. In applications of flow and transport in subsurface porous media, this is manifest in models that must capture complex geologic stratigraphy, structure (faults, folds, erosion, deposition) and infrastructure (tunnels, boreholes, excavations). Model setup, defined as the activities of geometry definition, mesh generation (creation, optimization, modification, refine, de-refine, smooth), assigning material properties, initial conditions and boundary conditions requires specialized software tools to automate and streamline the process. In addition, some model setup tools will provide more utility if they are designed to interface with and meet the needs of a particular flow and transport software suite. A control volume discretization that uses a two point flux approximation is for example most accurate when the underlying control volumes are 2D or 3D Voronoi tessellations. In this paper we will present the coupling of LaGriT, a mesh generation and model setup software suite and TOUGH2 (Pruess et al., 1999) to model subsurface flow problems and we show an example of how LaGriT can be used as a model setup tool for the generation of a Voronoi mesh for the simulation program TOUGH2. To generate the MESH file for TOUGH2 from the LaGriT output a standalone module Lagrit2Tough2 was developed, which is presented here and will be included in a future release of LaGriT. In this paper an alternative method to generate a Voronoi mesh for TOUGH2 with LaGriT is presented and thanks to the modular and command based structure of LaGriT this method is well suited to generating a mesh for complex models. - Abstract
This study considers the effect of forging direction on the initial shape of sheet to create a stepped work piece. The purpose of this study is to consider rolling direction in 0°, decreasing the waste while producing workpieces and so decreasing total cost of process. To this end, the assumed workpiece was made of a low carbon and anisotropic st14 steel sheet. To find the most appropriate direction and the shortest modification steps for final shape, the expansion level of the sheet was first imaged in the rolling direction and then the piece was shaped by the geometry. This approach was based on the coupling between the simulation and Genetic Algorithm. A Genetic Algorithm based approach is developed to optimize dimensions through integrating a finite element code running to compute the objective functions for each generation. Those points with a few materials modified through Genetic Algorithm yielded better results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

IRONWORK ,METALLOGRAPHY ,SCANNING electron microscopy ,BACKSCATTERING - Abstract
The workshop of Zambana el Vato (region Trentino, Northern Italy), is dated to the period between the 7th-6th and the 5th century BC. Iron working activities are clearly recognizable from the various finds. Among them there are working slag, heated clay, fragments of hearth or forge, hammerscale and more residues that can be referred to iron technology. A number of selected specimens were sectioned and mounted for photomicroscopy to identify the structure and some of the mounted samples were also examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using both a back scattered electron detector and energy dispersive (EDS) x-ray analysis. This paper presents the results of these studies. The hearths were regularly repaired, as their fragments were found mixed with working slag. The hammerscale samples indicate that there were three iron-working areas. The fragments of forge with traces of tuyeres indicate that bellows were employed. Refining slag was identified among the debris. This is particularly significant as for the moment no iron refining centers are known in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Present study describes the effect of forge application under consideration of friction time on metallurgical and mechanical properties of friction welded joint for AISI 316. Direct drive friction welding (DDFW) has been utilized to obtain welded joints. Three friction times (6.5 s, 8.5 s and 10 s) with two directions for this study were used; the first direction was achieved by forge phase elimination and the second was performed under forge phase application. Macro-microstructure for welded joint, microhardness across the axial direction, tensile tests and tensile fracture morphology were investigated. As a conclusion, flash formation was decreased about 30% without forge compared to forge application. Thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) was extended in 8 mm at the interface without forge and highly plastically deformed zone (HPDZ) can be found at the interface after forge application. At shorter friction time for the two directions, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and ductility were revealed closer to AISI 316. Hence, all tensile fractures were occurred adjacent to the interface at TMAZ, except in the shorter friction time after in forge application, the fracture was happened at the base metal, and that was confirmed with the fracture morphology which has the same character of AISI 316.
