This complex includes seven known morphospecies: V. madagascariensis, V. bosseri, V. decaryana, and V. perrieri endemic to Madagascar, V. humblotii presumed as endemic to the Comoros Archipelago, but also present in Madagascar, V. roscheri from the East African coast, and V. phalaenopsis endemic to Seychelles. A previous population genetic study using microsatellite markers allowed us to distinguish, in addition to the five recognized Malagasy taxa, two other genetic clusters present in the East of the island. An integrative taxonomy approach was therefore conducted by combining microsatellite and morphological data used in the previous study with new data sets, and by adding ITS sequencing data, to validate the taxonomic level of these Malagasy genetic clusters and unravel phylogenetic relationships between SWIO species. As a result, based on phylogenetic, genotypic and morphological evidence, nine species were discriminated in the SWIO region, including seven in Madagascar, with two new eastern species. The leafless Vanilla group originated and diversified in Madagascar, from an ancestor of African descent, with three subsequent independent colonization events from Madagascar to the other territories of SWIO within the two main lineages (white versus yellow flower species). The new Malagasy species, V. allorgeae Andriamihaja & Pailler sp. nov., and V. atsinananensis Andriamihaja & Pailler sp. nov., are described and a new identification key is proposed.

Oedichirus georgesi n. sp. (Staphylinidae, Paederinae) is described from Sao Tomé & Principe. It differs from the Oedichirus known to date by the shape of its aedeagus and by a series of characteristics of the head, pronotum and Sternum VIII., Oedichirus georgesi n. sp. Three antlion species, Myrmeleon croceus n. sp., Myrmeleon foucarti n. sp. and Myrmeleon nemoleontoides n. sp. from West Africa are described and illustrated. Information on their distribution, ecology and predators is provided.

In this paper, a new genus and species of arvicolid rodent is described from the late early Pleistocene levels of the sections of Fuente Nueva 3 (Guadix-Baza Basin, Granada, southern Iberian Peninsula), and Quibas (Murcia, southeastern Iberian Peninsula). The majority of Manchenomys n. gen. molars lacks roots, and the morphology of the first lower molar (m1) is simple, with a short and rounded anteroconid complex and widely confluent triangles four and five (T4 and T5) fields. Molar enamel is predominantly negatively differentiated (Mimomys-type). The third upper molar (M3) is also simple, with a short posterior cap. Manchenomys orcensis n. sp. is described from Fuente Nueva 3, and Mimomys oswaldoreigi Agustí, Castillo & Galobart, 1993 from Gilena 2 and Barranco de los Conejos is recombined as Manchenomys oswaldoreigi n. comb. The chronostratigraphic range of Manchenomys n. gen. covers the upper Matuyama geomagnetic chron, between 1.8 Ma (post- Olduvai subchron) and 0.99 Ma (Jaramillo subchron). Manchenomys n. gen. was possibly derived from a local population of Mimomys tornensis Janossy & Meulen, 1975, an arvicolid species present in older early Pleistocene levels of Spain., Un nouveau genre et une nouvelle espèce de rongeur arvicolidé (Mammalia) du Pléistocène inférieur de l’Espagne. Du point de vue chronostratigraphique, Manchenomys n. gen. se situe dans le chron géomagnétique Matuyama, entre 1,8 Ma (après le subchron Olduvai) et 0,99 Ma (subchron Jaramillo). The Brachymeria tibialis species group is newly recognized and diagnosed together with the Brachymeria annulata, femorata, kassiliensis and lasus species groups also newly defined. In these diagnoses a few morphological characters of the ventral part of the mesosoma, discovered in this study, are proposed to help differentiate the groups. The B. tibialis species group itself includes solely B. tibialis (Walker) and B. zygaenae Delvare & Shaw n. sp., which was until now mixed with it. The biology and hosts of both species are summarized.

The genus Apogonia Kirby, 1819, is revised for the species present in São Tomé and Principe. The taxon Apogonia insulana Karsch, 1882, is confirmed to occur on Principe Island. The taxa Apogonia decellei Lacroix, 2008, and Apogonia tomeensis Lacroix, 2008, are redescribed on recently collected material. A new species, close to Apogonia tomeensis is described from São Tomé: Apogonia chabaudi n. sp., Les espèces du genre Apogonia Kirby, 1819, présentes à São Tomé et Principe sont révisées. La présence sur l’île Principe d’Apogonia insulana Karsch, 1882, est confirmée. Les taxons Apogonia decellei Lacroix, 2008, et Apogonia tomeensis Lacroix, 2008, sont redécrits sur du matériel récemment récolté. International audience; Tennentsia koreana n. sp. is the first representative of the family Dysmorphoptilidae described from the UpperTriassic of South Korea. This discovery extends the distribution of the genus Tennentsia in Asia and suggests that it wasbroadly distributed during the Triassic. International audience; Thylacocephala is an enigmatic ingroup of Euarthropoda. Th ylacocephalans, only known from Pal-aeozoic and Mesozoic fossils, are characterized by a particular anatomy: a prominent folded shield enveloping most of the body, large compound eyes, three pairs of large, presumably raptorial ap-pendages and a trunk with 8-22 stout segments bearing swimming appendages. However, lifestyle(s) and phylogenetic relationships of Th ylacocephala are still largely unknown. Th is study is focused on thylacocephalans from the Mazon Creek Lagerstätte (c. 307 Ma, Middle Pennsylvanian, Carbonifer-ous). A new species is described from a siderite concretion of Mazon Creek: Eodollocaris keithfl intin. gen., n. sp. Th e new species displays a particular mixture of characters typical for Palaeozoic species on the one hand and Mesozoic species on the other hand. Additionally, new details of the appendages and of the trunk are provided for already known species from the same locality, namely Concavicaris georgeorum Schram, 1990 and Convexicaris mazonensis Schram, 1990. La nouvelle espèce présente un mélange particulier de caractères typiques des espèces paléozoïques d’un côté et d’espèces mésozoïques de l’autre. De plus, de nouveaux détails sur les appendices et sur le tronc sont donnés pour des espèces déjà connues de la même localité, à savoir Concavicaris georgeorum Schram, 1990 et Convexicaris mazonensis Schram, 1990. Ces nouvelles informations sont utiles pour mieux comprendre le mode de vie possible de ces thylacocéphales.

During a DNA barcoding campaign of leaf-mining Gracillariidae from the Asian part of Russia, a new species ofPhyllonorycterHübner, feeding on the Siberian pea shrub,CaraganaarborescensLam. (Fabaceae) was discovered in Siberia. Here, this taxon is described asPhyllonorycterivanisp. n.Among Fabaceae-feedingPhyllonorycter, so far onlyP.caraganella(Ermolaev) has been known to develop onCaragana.PhyllonorycterivaniandP.caraganellashow a large divergence in morphology (external and male genitalia) and barcode region of the mtDNA-COI gene (8.6%). They feed on different host plants species and have different ranges in Russia. We show that DNA barcode data weakly supports the Fabaceae-feeding species groups. In addition, we show that morphologically (strongly) and genetically (weakly),P.ivanihas affinity to thehaasispecies group, a West Palearctic group with asymmetrical male genitalia.

International audience; This study reviews the species of the tribe Smicronychini Seidlitz, 1891 found in southern Africa. In total, 18 species are recognized in this region, 12 of them being described as new (Sharpia madibai sp. nov., Afrosmicronyx cycnii sp. nov., A. louwi sp. nov., A. marshalli sp. nov., A. nebulosipennis sp. nov., Smicronyx pseudocoecus sp. nov., S. australis sp. nov., S. drakensbergensis sp. nov., S. gracilipes sp. nov., S. paucisquamis sp. nov., S. san sp. nov., S. similis sp. nov.). The following genera and species are newly reported from this area: Afrosmicronyx Hustache, 1935; Sharpia Tournier, 1873; Smicronyx pauperculus Wollaston, 1864; S. albosquamosus Wollaston, 1854 and S. namibicus Haran, 2018. New host plant taxa and plant associations for the tribe are reported among the families Gentianaceae Juss., Orobanchaceae Vent. and Convolvulaceae Juss. A key to species and images of the habitus of adults and male genitalia are provided.

On the basis of the general morphology, the fossil could be attributed to the extant Sumatran species group risii Brown, 1978. By comparing with the living environment of the extant species, this ant probably lived in a warm humid forest where it was trapped in dipterocarpacean resin during nuptial flight. Until now, the known Cenozoic distribution of the genus Anochetus was restricted to the Neotropi-cal region. Morphological characters that distinguish the new taxon from the related species, P. ophioglossa R.Br. are essentially a lip of the same length as the median sepal, without basal extension (instead of a shorter lip with a fimbriated extension at its base) and a narrowly angled sinus between the synsepals (instead of a rounded or open-angle sinus). Due to the high threats to its locality, the proposed IUCN conservation status is EN (Endangered). The site of Venta Micena (Orce, Spain), c. 1.6 Ma, preserves one the best paleontological records of the early Pleistocene large mammals fauna in Europe. Here we describe the specimens of the genus Canis Linnaeus, 1758 in the context of the late Villafranchian and Epivillafranchian fossil dogs from Eurasia. Anatomical and metric data suggest that the Venta Micena Canis form differs from the classical records of Canis etruscus Forsyth Major, 1877 and Canis arnensis Del Campana, 1913, and that it forms part of the younger Canis mosbachensis Soergel (1925) lineage, also recorded in two slightly younger sites of the Orce site complex, Barranco León and Fuente Nueva-3, dated to c. 1.4 Ma. The anatomy of the Venta Micena fossil material shows features that resemble the Canis forms from the Caucasian site of Dmanisi, dated to 1.8 Ma, and Canis ex gr. C. mosbachensis. Nevertheless, dental peculiarities support the creation of a new chrono-species, Canis orcensis n. sp., from the town of Orce. Morphological and paleoecological data suggest that this species probably consumed more vertebrate flesh than other similar sized early Pleistocene canids (i.e., a trend to hypercarnivory), which had more omnivorous dietary habits. Les données anatomiques et métriques suggèrent que le Canis de Venta Micena diffère des espèces courantes à ces époques, Canis etruscus Forsyth Major, 1877 et Canis arnensis Del Campana, 1913. Il se place à la base de la lignée plus récente appelée Canis mosbachensis Soergel (1925), déjà mentionnée dans deux gisements du complexe d'Orce légèrement plus récents, Barranco León et Fuente Nueva-3, datés d'1,4 Ma envi-ron. L'anatomie primitive du fossile de Venta Micena, avec des caractères semblables à ceux du Caniscaucasien de Dmanisi, daté de 1,8 Ma, conforte la création d'une nouvelle chrono-espèce de canidé, Canis orcensisn. sp., qui prend son nom de la ville d'Orce. Les données paléoécologiques suggèrent que cette espèce consommait plus de viande (i.e., une tendance à la hypercarnivorie) que d'autres canidés de taille semblable du Pléistocène inférieur qui avaient des régimes alimentaires plus omnivores.
