91. Identification of buried landmines using Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients and Support Vector Machines.

Abstract

In this paper a new identification technique for buried landmine objects is presented. Most of the existing supervised identification methods are based on traditional statistics, which can provide ideal results when sample size is tending to infinity. However, only finite samples can be acquired in practice. In this paper, a proposed learning method, Support Vector Machine (SVM), is applied on landmine images which have two main categories. Firstly, the 2-D images are lexicographic ordered to 1-D signals, and then the Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and polynomial coefficients are extracted from these 1-D signals or from their transforms. Secondly, the SVM is used to match the extracted features in the testing phase to those of the training phase. Experimental results show that the recognition rate for features extracted from the Discrete Sine Transform (DST) of images contaminated by AWGN, features extracted from images plus the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) of images contaminated by impulsive noise and features extracted from images plus the DST of images contaminated by speckle noise achieve better performance compared with the other cases. 92. SPIHT compression of ECG signals using an image processing concept.

Abstract

In this paper, a new electrocardiogram (ECG) data compression algorithm is presented. This algorithm converts the 1-D ECG signal into a 2-D matrix and then preprocessing is performed in order to compress the 2-D matrix with the Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) algorithm. The periods of ECG signals are found by the detection of the QRS complex, and then alignment and period sorting are used to convert the ECG signal into a matrix. Abstract

This paper presents a new trend in biometric security systems, which is cancelable multi-biometrics. In general, traditional biometric systems depend on a single biometric for identification. These traditional systems are subject to different types of attacks. In addition, a biometric signature may be lost in hacking scenarios; for example, in the case of intrusion, biometric signatures can be stolen forever. To reduce the risk of losing biometric signatures, the trend of cancelable biometrics has evolved by using either deformed or encrypted versions of biometrics for verification. In this paper, several biometric traits for the same person are treated to obtain a single cancelable template. First, optical scanning holography (OSH) is applied during the acquisition of each biometric. The resulting outputs are then compressed simultaneously to generate a unified template based on the energy compaction property of the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Hence, the OSH is used in the proposed approach as a tool to generate deformed versions of human biometrics in order to get the unified biometric template through DCT compression. With this approach, we guarantee the possibility of using multiple biometrics of the same user to increase security, as well as privacy of the new biometric template through utilization of the OSH. Simulation results prove the robustness of the proposed cancelable multi-biometric approach in noisy environments.

96. Overall survival of adult acute myeloid leukemia based on cytogenetic and molecular abnormalities during 5 years in a single center study.

Abstract

Objectives: To determined the 5-year overall survival (OS) rates for adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, based on cytogenetic and molecular abnormalities. Methods:  A retrospective cohort study reviewing adult AML patient files between 2011 and 2018. Sixty-three patients were excluded due to pediatric age and secondary AML. The remaining 87 adult patients with de novo AML were enrolled in this study., Results: The most frequent cytogenetic abnormalities were t(15;17) (17.2%), followed by complex cytogenetic (13.8%) and t(8;21) (5.7%). The most frequent molecular abnormalities were promyelocytic leukemia/retinoic acid receptor alpha (PML-RARA) (16.1%) and Nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) (11.5%). The highest OS rate was associated with t(15;17), PML-RARA, and NPM. However, complex cytogenetic was associated with the lowest OS rate; fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3)-internal tandem duplication was independently correlated with low OS rate. Conclusion: The study describes cytogenetic and molecular abnormalities observed in adult AML patients and gives an overview of prognostic factors and determine the OS, with comparable results with recent published data by the WHO.
