51. Metamaterial-Inspired Quad-Band Notch Filter for LTE Band Receivers and WPT Applications

Abstract: A new compact quad-band notch filter (QBNF) based on the extended composite right and left-handed transmission line (E-CRLH TL) has been presented. As known, E-CRLH TL behaves like a quad-band structure. A microstrip TL which is loaded with an open-ended E-CRLH TL is presented as a QBNF. Four unwanted frequencies were used in a dual-band LTE receiver as four notch frequencies which must be eliminated (0.9 GHz, 1.3 GHz, 2.55 GHz, and 3.35 GHz). Also, this QBNF can be applied to simultaneous wireless power and data transfer (SWPDT) system to isolate the wireless power circuit from the data communication circuit. A design technique for the proposed QBNF is presented and its performance is validated using full-wave simulation results and theoretical analysis. The main advantage of this design is an overall rejection greater than 20dB at selected unwanted frequencies. Good agreements between the full-wave simulation and equivalent circuit model results have been achieved which verified the effectiveness of the proposed circuit model. The proposed QBNF is designed on an FR-4 substrate and the dimension of the proposed QBNF is 20X22 mm.

Abstract: A compact energy-recovery linac (cERL) has been un-der construction at KEK since 2009 to develop key technologies for the energy-recovery linac. The cERL began operating in 2013 to create a high-current beam with a low-emittance beam with stable continuous wave (CW) superconducting cavities. Owing to the development of critical components, such as the DC gun, superconducting cavities, and the design of ideal beam transport optics, we have successfully established approximately 1 mA stable CW operation with a small beam emittance and extremely small beam loss. 53. Sommerfeld-Bethe analysis of ZT in inhomogeneous thermoelectrics

Abstract: The development of good thermoelectric materials exhibiting high $ZT$ (=$\frac{PF}{\kappa} T$) requires maximizing power factor, $PF$, mainly governed by electrons, and minimizing thermal conductivity, $\kappa$, associated not only with electrons but also with phonons. In the present work, we focus on the GeTe and Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ as high $ZT$ materials with inhomogeneous structures and analyze both electrical conductivity, $L_{11}$, and Seebeck coefficient, $S$, with help of Sommerfeld-Bethe formula, resulting in understanding the temperature dependence of $PF$ and the identification of electrons contribution to thermal conductivity, $\kappa_{\rm el}$. Comparing the obtained $\kappa_{\rm el}$ and experimentally measured $\kappa$, the temperature dependence of phonons contribution to thermal conductivity, $\kappa_{\rm ph}=\kappa-\kappa_{\rm el}$, is inferred and analyzed based on the formula by Holland. Comparison of the GeTe and Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ with different types of crystal structures, i.e., GeTe being of a semiordered zigzag nanostructure like a disrupted herringbone structure while Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ of rather uniform amorphous structure, discloses that size effects on temperature dependence of $\kappa_{\rm ph}$ is large in the former, while very small in the latter. Hence, it is concluded that not only the size of the grain but also its shape has an important influence on $\kappa_{\rm ph}$ and then $ZT$.

Abstract: Electronic flying qubits offer an interesting alternative to photonic qubits: electrons propagate slower, hence easier to control in real time, and Coulomb interaction enables direct entanglement between different qubits. While their coherence time is limited, picosecond-scale control would make them competitive in terms of number of possible coherent operations. The key challenge lies in achieving the dynamical regime, where the injected plasmonic pulse width is shorter than the quantum device dimensions. Here we reach this new regime in a quantum nanoelectronic system by injecting ultrashort single electron plasmonic pulses into a 14-micrometer-long Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Our findings reveal that quantum coherence is preserved for ultrashort plasmonic pulses, exhibiting enhanced contrast of coherent oscillations compared to the DC regime. Moreover, this coherence remains robust even under large bias voltages. This milestone demonstrates the feasibility of flying qubits as a promising alternative to localized qubit architectures, offering reduced hardware footprint, increased connectivity, and potential for scalable quantum information processing.

55. Single-qubit rotations on a binomial code without ancillary qubits

Abstract: Great attention has been paid to binomial codes utilizing bosonic systems as logical qubits with error correction capabilities. However, implementing single-qubit rotation operations on binomial codes has proven challenging, requiring an ancillary qubit in previous approaches. Here, we propose a method for performing logical qubit rotation on binomial codes without requiring an ancillary qubit. Specifically, we explain how to implement $X$-axis rotations by simultaneously applying two-frequency parametric drives to resonators with nonlinearity. Furthermore, we show that $Z$-axis rotations could be realized with the detuning. Due to the reduction of the need for the ancillary qubit for the logical qubit rotation, our proposed approach is advantageous for quantum computation in the NISQ era, where the number of qubits is limited.

56. Unveiling the nature of cathodoluminescence from photon statistics

Abstract: Cathodoluminescence (CL), the emission of light induced by accelerated free electrons, has been extensively utilized in various applications, such as displays, streak cameras, and high-spatial-resolution analysis of optical material, surpassing the diffraction limit of light. Despite its long history, the photon statistics of CL have only recently been examined, revealing unexpectedly large bunching of photons. Here we find that this peculiar photon bunching contains information of intervening excitation processes before the photon emission, which can be extracted from the photon statistics within each excitation event by a single free electron. Using this approach, we experimentally unveiled the statistical differences of coherent CL involving a single electromagnetic interaction process and incoherent CL involving multiple excitation processes. The developed formulation is universally applicable for particle generation processes in general to investigate the nature of cascade reactions.

58. Floquet prethermalization of ${\bf Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory on superconducting qubits

Abstract: Simulating nonequilibirum dynamics of a quantum many-body system is one of the promising applications of quantum computing. We simulate the time evolution of one-dimensional ${\bf Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory on IBM's superconducting 156-qubit device ibm\_fez. We consider the Floquet circuit made of the Trotter decomposition of Hamiltonian evolution and focus on its dynamics toward thermalization. Quantum simulation with the help of error mitigation is successful in running the Floquet circuit made of $38$ and $116$ qubits up to $10$ Trotter steps in the best case. This is enough to reach the early stage of prethermalization. 59. CoVLA: Comprehensive Vision-Language-Action Dataset for Autonomous Driving

Abstract: Autonomous driving, particularly navigating complex and unanticipated scenarios, demands sophisticated reasoning and planning capabilities. While Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) offer a promising avenue for this, their use has been largely confined to understanding complex environmental contexts or generating high-level driving commands, with few studies extending their application to end-to-end path planning. A major research bottleneck is the lack of large-scale annotated datasets encompassing vision, language, and action. To address this issue, we propose CoVLA (Comprehensive Vision-Language-Action) Dataset, an extensive dataset comprising real-world driving videos spanning more than 80 hours. This dataset leverages a novel, scalable approach based on automated data processing and a caption generation pipeline to generate accurate driving trajectories paired with detailed natural language descriptions of driving environments and maneuvers. This approach utilizes raw in-vehicle sensor data, allowing it to surpass existing datasets in scale and annotation richness. Using CoVLA, we investigate the driving capabilities of MLLMs that can handle vision, language, and action in a variety of driving scenarios. Our results illustrate the strong proficiency of our model in generating coherent language and action outputs, emphasizing the potential of Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models in the field of autonomous driving. This dataset establishes a framework for robust, interpretable, and data-driven autonomous driving systems by providing a comprehensive platform for training and evaluating VLA models, contributing to safer and more reliable self-driving vehicles. The dataset is released for academic purpose.

61. Tensor-based quantum phase difference estimation for large-scale demonstration

Abstract: We develop an energy calculation algorithm leveraging quantum phase difference estimation (QPDE) scheme and a tensor-network-based unitary compression method in the preparation of superposition states and time-evolution gates. Alongside its efficient implementation, this algorithm reduces depolarization noise affections exponentially. We demonstrated energy gap calculations for one-dimensional Hubbard models on IBM superconducting devices using circuits up to 32-system (plus one-ancilla) qubits, a five-fold increase over previous QPE demonstrations, at the 7242 controlled-Z gate level of standard transpilation, utilizing a Q-CTRL error suppression module. Additionally, we propose a technique towards molecular executions using spatial orbital localization and index sorting, verified by a 13- (17-)qubit hexatriene (octatetraene) simulation. 63. Nucleon-quark mixed matter and neutron star EOS

Abstract: The nucleon-quark mixed matter is defined in the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock framework, in which quark densities are determined by equilibrium conditions between nucleon and quark chemical potentials, and nucleon-quark interactions play critical roles for resulting EoSs (equation of state). The two models of EoSs are derived from the nucleon-quark mixed matter (NQMM): The NQMM-A EoSs are based on the simple assumption that nucleons and free quarks occupy their respective Fermi levels and their Fermi spheres overlap from each other. In NQMM-B EoSs, the quark Fermi repulsion effect is incorporated on the basis of quakyonic matter, meaning that the nucleon Fermi levels are pushed up from the quark Fermi sphere by the Pauli exclusion principle. For the NQMM-A EoSs, the neutron-star mass-radius ($MR$) curves are pushed up above the region of $M \sim 2.1M_\odot$ and $R_{2.1M_\odot}\sim$ 12.5 km indicated by the recent observations, as the $qN$ repulsions increase. For the NQMM-B EoSs, the similar results are obtained by the combined contributions from the $qN$ repulsion and the quark Fermi repulsion. In both models of EoSs, the important roles of the $qN$ di-quark exchange repulsions are demonstrated to reproduce reasonable values of $M_{max}$ and $R_{2.1M_\odot}$.

64. Correlation versus Dissipation in a Non-Hermitian Anderson Impurity Model

Abstract: We analyze the competition between strong correlations and dissipation in quantum impurity systems from the Kondo regime to the valence fluctuation regime by developing a slave-boson theory for a non-Hermitian Anderson impurity model with one-body loss. Notably, in the non-Hermitian Kondo regime, strong correlations qualitatively change the nature of dissipation through renormalization effects, where the effective one-body loss is suppressed and emergent many-body dissipation characterized by the complex-valued hybridization is generated. We unveil the mechanism of a dissipative quantum phase transition of the Kondo state on the basis of this renormalization effect, which counterintuitively enhances the lifetime of the impurity against loss. We also find a crossover from the non-Hermitian Kondo regime to the valence fluctuation regime dominated by one-body dissipation. Abstract: This study investigated the dynamics of an electron--nuclear spin-coupled system using three Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$As bulk samples with different aluminum concentrations $x$ of 0, 0.05, and 0.15. The time-resolved Kerr rotation technique was primarily used. The samples with $x=$ 0.05 and 0.15 exhibited an anomalously large nuclear magnetic field of $\sim$1.1 T, which was twice the applied magnetic field. This observation is unusual for bulk semiconductors, which typically exhibit weak hyperfine interactions. Further investigations revealed a long nuclear field formation time, which indicated clear two-stage formation dynamics. Thus, this study concluded that slow nuclear spin diffusion owing to the nuclear quadrupole interaction facilitates the formation process of the nuclear field., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

Abstract: The Super-Kamiokande and T2K collaborations present a joint measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters from their atmospheric and beam neutrino data. It uses a common interaction model for events overlapping in neutrino energy and correlated detector systematic uncertainties between the two datasets, which are found to be compatible. Abstract: Upgrade work towards increasing the beam intensity of the neutrino beamline at J- PARC is underway. Monitoring tertiary muon beams is essential for stable operation of the beamline. Accordingly, we plan to replace the present muon monitor sensors with electron multiplier tubes (EMTs). We investigated the radiation tolerance and linearity response of EMTs using a 90 MeV electron beam. An EMTs was irradiated with electrons up to 470 nC. EMTs show higher radiation tolerance than the Si sensors which are presently used as one of the muon monitor detectors for the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment at J-PARC. The integrated charge yield decrease is found to be less than 8% after a beam irradiation equivalent to 132 days of operation at the future J-PARC beam power of 1.3 MW. The EMTs show linearity better than $\pm$5% up to the future beam intensity. The observed yield decrease is likely due to dynode deterioration based on the detailed investigation. The studies described here confirm that EMTs can be used as a high-intensity muon beam monitor. 69. Ethical Implications of ChatGPT in Higher Education: A Scoping Review

Abstract: This scoping review explores the ethical challenges of using ChatGPT in higher education. By reviewing recent academic articles in English, Chinese, and Japanese, we aimed to provide a deep dive review and identify gaps in the literature. Drawing on Arksey & O'Malley's (2005) scoping review framework, we defined search terms and identified relevant publications from four databases in the three target languages. The research results showed that the majority of the papers were discussion papers, but there was some early empirical work. The ethical issues highlighted in these works mainly concern academic integrity, assessment issues, and data protection. Given the rapid deployment of generative artificial intelligence, it is imperative for educators to conduct more empirical studies to develop sound ethical policies for its use.

Abstract: Modern artificial intelligence (AI) systems are powered by foundation models. This paper presents a new set of foundation models, called Llama 3. It is a herd of language models that natively support multilinguality, coding, reasoning, and tool usage. Our largest model is a dense Transformer with 405B parameters and a context window of up to 128K tokens. This paper presents an extensive empirical evaluation of Llama 3. We find that Llama 3 delivers comparable quality to leading language models such as GPT-4 on a plethora of tasks. We publicly release Llama 3, including pre-trained and post-trained versions of the 405B parameter language model and our Llama Guard 3 model for input and output safety. The paper also presents the results of experiments in which we integrate image, video, and speech capabilities into Llama 3 via a compositional approach. We observe this approach performs competitively with the state-of-the-art on image, video, and speech recognition tasks. The resulting models are not yet being broadly released as they are still under development.

Abstract: When the planet formation process begins in the disks surrounding young stars is still an open question. Annular substructures such as rings and gaps in disks are intertwined with planet formation, and thus their presence or absence is commonly used to investigate the onset of this process. Current observations show a limited number of disks surrounding protostars exhibiting annular substructures, all of them in the Class I stage. The lack of observed features in most of these sources may indicate a late emergence of substructures, but it could also be an artifact of these disks being optically thick. To mitigate the problem of optical depth, we investigate substructures within a very young Class 0 disk characterized by a low inclination using observations at longer wavelengths. We use 3 mm ALMA observations tracing dust emission at a resolution of 7 au to search for evidence of annular substructures in the disk around the deeply embedded Class 0 protostar Oph A SM1. The observations reveal a nearly face-on disk (i$\sim$16$^{\circ}$) extending up to 40 au. The radial intensity profile shows a clear deviation from a smooth profile near 30 au, which we interpret as the presence of either a gap at 28 au or a ring at 34 au with Gaussian widths of $\sigma=1.4^{+2.3}_{-1.2}$ au and $\sigma=3.9^{+2.0}_{-1.9}$ au, respectively. The 3 mm emission at the location of the possible gap or ring is determined to be optically thin, precluding the possibility that this feature in the intensity profile is due to the emission being optically thick. Annular substructures resembling those in the more evolved Class I and II disks could indeed be present in the Class 0 stage, earlier than previous observations suggested. Similar observations of embedded disks in which the high optical depth problem can be mitigated are clearly needed to better constrain the onset of substructures in the embedded stages., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables. Abstract: The MEG II experiment searches for a charged-lepton-flavour-violating $\mu \to e \gamma$ with the target sensitivity of $6 \times 10^{-14}$. A liquid xenon calorimeter with VUV-sensitive photosensors measures photon position, timing, and energy. This paper concentrates on the precise photon energy reconstruction with the MEG II liquid xenon calorimeter. Since a muon beam rate is $3\text{-}5 \times 10^{7}~\text{s}^{-1}$, multi-photon elimination analysis is performed using waveform analysis techniques such as a template waveform fit. As a result, background events in the energy range of 48-58 MeV were reduced by 34 %. Abstract: Employing the spin-wave formalism within and beyond the harmonic-oscillator approximation, we study the dynamic structure factors of spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ nearest-neighbor quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnets on two-dimensional quasiperiodic lattices with particular emphasis on a magnetic analog to the well-known confined states of a hopping Hamiltonian for independent electrons on a two-dimensional Penrose lattice. We present comprehensive calculations on the $\mathbf{C}_{5\mathrm{v}}$ Penrose tiling in comparison with the $\mathbf{C}_{8\mathrm{v}}$ Ammann-Beenker tiling, revealing their decagonal and octagonal antiferromagnetic microstructures. Their dynamic spin structure factors both exhibit linear soft modes emergent at magnetic Bragg wavevectors and have nearly or fairly flat scattering bands, signifying magnetic excitations localized in some way, at several different energies in a self-similar manner. In particular, the lowest-lying highly flat mode is distinctive of the Penrose lattice, which is mediated by its unique antiferromagnons confined within tricoordinated sites only, unlike their itinerant electron counterparts involving pentacoordinated as well as tricoordinated sites. Bringing harmonic antiferromagnons into higher-order quantum interaction splits the lowest-lying nearly flat scattering band in two, each mediated by further confined antiferromagnons, which is fully demonstrated and throughly visualized in the perpendicular as well as real spaces. Abstract: In this paper, we study the flux identification problem for a nonlinear time-fractional viscoelastic equation with a general source function based on the boundary measurements. We prove that the direct problem is well-posed, i.e., the solution exists, unique and depends continuously on the heat flux. Then the Fr\'echet differentiability of the cost functional is proved. The Conjugate Gradient Algorithm, based on the gradient formula for the cost functional, is proposed for numerical solution of the inverse flux problem. The numerical examples, both with noise-free and noisy data, provide a clear demonstration of the applicability and accuracy of the proposed method.

78. Random walks on bifractal networks

Abstract: It has recently been shown that networks possessing the scale-free and fractal properties may exhibit the bifractal nature, in which local structures are described by two different fractal dimensions. In this study, we investigate random walks on fractal scale-free networks (FSFNs) by examining the walk dimension $d_{\text{w}}$ and the spectral dimension $d_{\text{s}}$, to understand how the bifractality of FSFNs affects their dynamical properties. The walk dimension is found to be unaffected by the difference in local fractality of an FSFN and remains constant regardless of the starting node of a random walk, whereas the spectral dimension takes two values, $d_{\text{s}}^{\text{min}}$ and $d_{\text{s}}^{\text{max}}(> d_{\text{s}}^{\text{min}})$, depending on the starting node. The dimension $d_{\text{s}}^{\text{min}}$ characterizes the return probability of a random walker starting from an infinite-degree hub node in the thermodynamic limit, while $d_{\text{s}}^{\text{max}}$ describes that of a random walker starting from a finite-degree non-hub node infinitely distant from hub nodes and is equal to the global spectral dimension $D_{\text{s}}$. The existence of two local spectral dimensions is a direct consequence of the bifractality of the FSFN. Abstract: The modern information society, markedly influenced by the advent of the internet and subsequent developments such as WEB 2.0, has seen an explosive increase in information availability, fundamentally altering human interaction with information spaces. This transformation has facilitated not only unprecedented access to information but has also raised significant challenges, particularly highlighted by the spread of ``fake news'' during critical events like the 2016 U.S. presidential election and the COVID-19 pandemic. The latter event underscored the dangers of an ``infodemic,'' where the large amount of information made distinguishing between factual and non-factual content difficult, thereby complicating public health responses and posing risks to democratic processes. In response to these challenges, this paper introduces the concept of ``informational health,'' drawing an analogy between dietary habits and information consumption. It argues that just as balanced diets are crucial for physical health, well-considered nformation behavior is essential for maintaining a healthy information environment. This paper proposes three strategies for fostering informational health: literacy education, visualization of meta-information, and informational health assessments. These strategies aim to empower users and platforms to navigate and enhance the information ecosystem effectively. Abstract: We prove the uniqueness for an inverse problem of determining a matrix coefficient $P(x)$ of a system of evolution equations $\sigma \ppp_t u = \ppp_x^2 u(t,x) - P(x) u(t,x)$ for $00$ and $T>0$ are arbitrarily given. The uniqueness results assert that two solutions have the same Cauchy data at $x=0$ over $(0,T)$ and the same initial value or the final value which is positive on $[0,\ell]$, then the zeroth-order coefficient is uniquely determined on $[0,\ell]$. The uniqueness for inverse coefficient problem for a system of evolution equations without boundary conditions over the whole boundary is an open problem even in the one-dimension in the case where only initial value is given as spatial data. Moreover, in the case of the zero initial condition, we prove the uniqueness in the half of the spatial interval.

Abstract: NanoTerasu, a new 3 GeV synchrotron light source in Japan, began user operation in April 2024. It provides high-brilliance soft to tender X-rays and covers a wide spectral range from ultraviolet to tender X-rays. Its compact storage ring with a circumference of 349 m is based on a four-bend achromat lattice to provide two straight sections in each cell for insertion devices with a natural horizontal emittance of 1.14 nm rad, which is small enough for soft X-rays users. The NanoTerasu accelerator incorporates several innovative technologies, including a full-energy injector C-band linear accelerator with a length of 110 m, an in-vacuum off-axis injection system, a four-bend achromat with B-Q combined bending magnets, and a TM020 mode accelerating cavity with built-in higher-order-mode dampers in the storage ring. This paper presents the accelerator machine commissioning over a half-year period and our model-consistent ring optics correction. The first user operation with a stored beam current of 160 mA is also reported. We summarize the storage ring parameters obtained from the commissioning. 84. Molecular Formation in Low-Metallicity Hot Cores

Abstract: The chemical complexity in low-metallicity hot cores has been confirmed by observations. We investigate the effect of varying physical parameters, such as temperature, density and the cosmic ray ionisation rate (CRIR), on the molecular abundance evolution in low-metallicity hot cores using the UMIST gas phase chemical model. CRIR had the strongest effect on molecular abundance. The resultant molecular abundances were divided into three categories with different trends in time evolution. We compared our results with the observations of hot cores in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Our model fits best with the observations at a time of around $10^5$ years after the evaporation of ice and at the CRIR of $1.36 \times 10^{-16}$ s$^{-1}$. The resultant abundances of the oxygen-bearing complex organic molecules (COMs), such as CH$_3$OH, HCOOCH$_3$ and CH$_3$OCH$_3$, do not fit with observations in the same physical condition and may be located in a different physical environment. Our results suggest that investigating the CRIR value is crucial to predict the molecular evolution in LMC hot cores.

Abstract: This paper will examine the cognitive processes involved in palpation in order to develop an appropriate remote palpation system. In a conventional remote palpation system, the tactile condition of the patient is conveyed to the doctors using a force feedback system. A clarification of the cognitive process during palpation suggests that the purpose of palpation is to formulate a clear idea about the patient's medical problems using the tactile sensation as a trigger to combine the results of other assessments, past experience and memory, and patient reactions to the doctor's touch. This is in contrast to the objective of acquiring the detailed tactile condition of the affected body part. In order to demonstrate this purpose, we will describe the two significant signal pathways for the perception of tactile sensation, both in doctors and patients. The perception of doctors progresses as the result of active touch to the affected part, thereby implying that the simultaneous stimulation of kinaesthetic and tactile sensation is necessary. Conversely, the tactile sensation experienced by patients is the result of passive touch, which evokes a more subjective and emotional response. Patients both explicitly and implicitly perceive the stimulation, and doctors use these perceptions as reactions of the pain to the doctors' touch. This paper proposes the fundamental concept of a remote palpation system, ``Palpation Reality beyond Real'', to achieve the purpose of palpation. Palpation reality implies a system in which the whole cognitive process progresses at the same level or better than palpation in the standard examination, rather than presenting the real tactile sensation.

Abstract: The influence of space weathering on the observed spectra of C-complex asteroids remains uncertain. This has long hindered our understanding of their composition through telescope observations. Multi-band imaging of Ryugu by ONC-T on Hayabusa2 and that of Bennu by MapCam on OSIRIS-REx found opposite spectral trends of space weathering; Ryugu darkened/reddened while Bennu brightened/blued. How the spectra of Ryugu and Bennu evolved relative to each other would place a constraint for understanding their origins and evolutions. In this study, we compared the space weathering trends on Ryugu and Bennu by applying the results of cross calibration between ONC-T and MapCam. We show that the average Bennu surface is brighter by 18.0 $\pm$ 1.5% at 550 nm and bluer by 0.18 $\pm$ 0.03 $\mu$m$^{-1}$ (480-850 nm slope) than Ryugu. The spectral slopes of surface materials are more uniform on Bennu than on Ryugu at spatial scales $\gtrsim$1 m, but Bennu is more heterogeneous at $\lesssim$1 m. This suggests that lateral mixing due to resurfacing may have been more efficient on Bennu. The reflectance-spectral slope distributions of craters on Ryugu and Bennu appeared to follow two trend lines with an offset before cross calibration, but they converged to a single straight trend without a bend after cross calibration. We show that the spectra of the freshest craters on Ryugu and Bennu are indistinguishable within the uncertainty of cross calibration. These results suggest that Ryugu and Bennu initially had similar spectra before space weathering and that they evolved in completely opposite directions along the same trend line, subsequently evolving into asteroids with different disk-averaged spectra. These findings further suggest that space weathering likely expanded the spectral slope variation of C-complex asteroids, implying that they may have formed from materials with more uniform spectral slopes.

87. Quantum algorithm for partial differential equations of non-conservative systems with spatially varying parameters

Abstract: Partial differential equations (PDEs) are crucial for modeling various physical phenomena such as heat transfer, fluid flow, and electromagnetic waves. In computer-aided engineering (CAE), the ability to handle fine resolutions and large computational models is essential for improving product performance and reducing development costs. However, solving large-scale PDEs, particularly for systems with spatially varying material properties, poses significant computational challenges. In this paper, we propose a quantum algorithm for solving second-order linear PDEs of non-conservative systems with spatially varying parameters, using the linear combination of Hamiltonian simulation (LCHS) method. Our approach transforms those PDEs into ordinary differential equations represented by qubit operators, through spatial discretization using the finite difference method. Then, we provide an algorithm that efficiently constructs the operator corresponding to the spatially varying parameters of PDEs via a logic minimization technique, which reduces the number of terms and subsequently the circuit depth. We also develop a scalable method for realizing a quantum circuit for LCHS, using a tensor-network-based technique, specifically a matrix product state (MPS). We validate our method with applications to the acoustic equation with spatially varying parameters and the dissipative heat equation. Our approach includes a detailed recipe for constructing quantum circuits for PDEs, leveraging efficient encoding of spatially varying parameters of PDEs and scalable implementation of LCHS, which we believe marks a significant step towards advancing quantum computing's role in solving practical engineering problems., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: Recent observations suggest that planets formation starts early, in protostellar disks of $\le10^5$ yrs, which are characterized by strong interactions with the environment, e.g., through accretion streamers and molecular outflows. To investigate the impact of such phenomena on disk physical and chemical properties it is key to understand what chemistry planets inherit from their natal environment. In the context of the ALMA Large Program Fifty AU STudy of the chemistry in the disk/envelope system of Solar-like protostars (FAUST), we present observations on scales from ~1500 au to ~60 au of H$_2$CO, HDCO, and D$_2$CO towards the young planet-forming disk IRS~63. H$_2$CO probes the gas in the disk as well as in a large scale streamer (~1500 au) impacting onto the South-East (SE) disk side. We detect for the first time deuterated formaldehyde, HDCO and D$_2$CO, in a planet-forming disk, and HDCO in the streamer that is feeding it. This allows us to estimate the deuterium fractionation of H$_2$CO in the disk: [HDCO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1-0.3$ and [D$_2$CO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1$. Interestingly, while HDCO follows the H$_2$CO distribution in the disk and in the streamer, the distribution of D$_2$CO is highly asymmetric, with a peak of the emission (and [D]/[H] ratio) in the SE disk side, where the streamer crashes onto the disk. In addition, D$_2$CO is detected in two spots along the blue- and red-shifted outflow. This suggests that: (i) in the disk, HDCO formation is dominated by gas-phase reactions similarly to H$_2$CO, while (ii) D$_2$CO was mainly formed on the grain mantles during the prestellar phase and/or in the disk itself, and is at present released in the gas-phase in the shocks driven by the streamer and the outflow. Abstract: Faced with a dangerous epidemic humans will spontaneously social distance to reduce their risk of infection at a socio-economic cost. Compartmentalised epidemic models have been extended to include this endogenous decision making: Individuals choose their behaviour to optimise a utility function, self-consistently giving rise to population behaviour. Here we study the properties of the resulting Nash equilibria, in which no member of the population can gain an advantage by unilaterally adopting different behaviour. We leverage a new analytic solution to obtain, (1) a simple relationship between rational social distancing behaviour and the current number of infections; (2) new scaling results for how the infection peak and number of total cases depend on the cost of contracting the disease; (3) characteristic infection costs that divide regimes of strong and weak behavioural response and depend only on the basic reproduction number of the disease; (4) a closed form expression for the value of the utility. We discuss how these analytic results provide a deep and intuitive understanding into the disease dynamics, useful for both individuals and policymakers. In particular the relationship between social distancing and infections represents a heuristic that could be communicated to the population to encourage, or "bootstrap", rational behaviour.

Abstract: Context: There are currently three pulsars firmly detected by imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs), two of them reaching TeV energies, challenging models of very-high-energy (VHE) emission in pulsars. More precise observations are needed to better characterize pulsar emission at these energies. The LST-1 is the prototype of the Large-Sized Telescope, that will be part of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO). Its improved performance over previous IACTs makes it well suited for studying pulsars. Aims: To study the Crab pulsar emission with the LST-1, improving and complementing the results from other telescopes. These observations can also be used to characterize the potential of the LST-1 to study other pulsars and detect new ones. Methods: We analyzed a total of $\sim$103 hours of gamma-ray observations of the Crab pulsar conducted with the LST-1 in the period from September 2020 to January 2023. The observations were carried out at zenith angles less than 50 degrees. A new analysis of the Fermi-LAT data was also performed, including $\sim$14 years of observations. Results: The Crab pulsar phaseogram, long-term light-curve, and phase-resolved spectra are reconstructed with the LST-1 from 20 GeV to 450 GeV for P1 and up to 700 GeV for P2. The pulsed emission is detected with a significance of 15.2$\sigma$. The two characteristic emission peaks of the Crab pulsar are clearly detected (>10$\sigma$), as well as the so-called bridge emission (5.7$\sigma$). We find that both peaks are well described by power laws, with spectral indices of $\sim$3.44 and $\sim$3.03 respectively. The joint analysis of Fermi-LAT and LST-1 data shows a good agreement between both instruments in the overlapping energy range. Abstract: Sample Return Capsules (SRCs) entering Earth's atmosphere at hypervelocity from interplanetary space are a valuable resource for studying meteor phenomena. The 24 September 2023 arrival of the OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer) SRC provided an unprecedented chance for geophysical observations of a well-characterized source with known parameters, including timing and trajectory. A collaborative effort involving researchers from 16 institutions executed a carefully planned geophysical observational campaign at strategically chosen locations, deploying over 400 ground-based sensors encompassing infrasound, seismic, distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), and GPS technologies. Additionally, balloons equipped with infrasound sensors were launched to capture signals at higher altitudes. This campaign (the largest of its kind so far) yielded a wealth of invaluable data anticipated to fuel scientific inquiry for years to come. The success of the observational campaign is evidenced by the near-universal detection of signals across instruments, both proximal and distal. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the collective scientific effort, field deployment, and preliminary findings. The early findings have the potential to inform future space missions and terrestrial campaigns, contributing to our understanding of meteoroid interactions with planetary atmospheres. 93. Ergodic optimization for continuous functions on the Dyck-Motzkin shifts

Abstract: Ergodic optimization aims to describe dynamically invariant probability measures that maximize the integral of a given function. The Dyck and Motzkin shifts are well-known examples of transitive subshifts over a finite alphabet that are not intrinsically ergodic. We show that the space of continuous functions on any Dyck-Motzkin shift splits into two subsets: one is a dense $G_\delta$ set with empty interior for which any maximizing measure has zero entropy; the other is contained in the closure of the set of functions having uncountably many, fully supported measures that are Bernoulli. Abstract: The GRAINE project observes cosmic gamma-rays, using a balloon-borne emulsion-film-based telescope in the sub-GeV/GeV energy band. We reported in our previous balloon experiment in 2018, GRAINE2018, the detection of the known brightest source, Vela pulsar, with the highest angular resolution ever reported in an energy range of $>$80 MeV. However, the emulsion scanning system used in the experiment was designed to achieve a high-speed scanning, and it was not accurate enough to ensure the optimum spacial resolution of the emulsion film and limited the performance. Here, we report a new high-precision scanning system that can be used to greatly improve the observation result of GRAINE2018 and also be employed in future experiments. The system involves a new algorithm that recognizes each silver grain on an emulsion film and is capable of measuring tracks with a positional resolution for the passing points of tracks of almost the same as the intrinsic resolution of nuclear emulsion film ($\sim$70 nm). This resolution is approximately one order of magnitude smaller than that obtained with the high-speed scanning system. With this system, an angular resolution for gamma-rays of 0.1$^\circ$ at 1 GeV is expected to be achieved. Furthermore, we successfully combine the new high-precision system with the existing high-speed system, establishing the system to make a high-speed and high-precision measurement. Employing these systems, we reanalyze the gamma-ray events detected previously by only the high-speed system in GRAINE2018 and obtain an about three times higher angular resolution (0.22$^\circ$) in 500--700 MeV than the original value. 95. Phase diagram of non-Hermitian BCS superfluids in a dissipative asymmetric Hubbard model

Abstract: We investigate the non-Hermitian (NH) attractive Fermi-Hubbard model with asymmetric hopping and complex-valued interactions, which should be realized by collective one-body loss and two-body loss. By means of the NH BCS theory, we find that the weak asymmetry of the hopping does not affect the BCS superfluidity since it only affects the imaginary part of the eigenvalues of the BdG Hamiltonian. Systematic analysis in the $d$-dimensional hypercubic lattices clarifies that the singularity in the density of states affects the phase boundary between the normal and dissipation-induced superfluid states. Our results can be tested in ultracold atoms by using the photoassociation techniques and a nonlocal Rabi coupling with local losses and postselecting null measurement outcomes utilized by quantum-gas microscopes., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

96. Feedback-driven quantum reservoir computing for time-series analysis

Abstract: Quantum reservoir computing (QRC) is a highly promising computational paradigm that leverages quantum systems as a computational resource for nonlinear information processing. While its application to time-series analysis is eagerly anticipated, prevailing approaches suffer from the collapse of the quantum state upon measurement, resulting in the erasure of temporal input memories. Neither repeated initializations nor weak measurements offer a fundamental solution, as the former escalates the time complexity while the latter restricts the information extraction from the Hilbert space. To address this issue, we propose the feedback-driven QRC framework. This methodology employs projective measurements on all qubits for unrestricted access to the quantum state, with the measurement outcomes subsequently fed back into the reservoir to restore the memory of prior inputs. We demonstrate that our QRC successfully acquires the fading-memory property through the feedback connections, a critical element in time-series processing. Notably, analysis of measurement trajectories reveal three distinct phases depending on the feedback strength, with the memory performance maximized at the edge of chaos. We also evaluate the predictive capabilities of our QRC, demonstrating its suitability for forecasting signals originating from quantum spin systems., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures

97. Stabilization of Kerr-cat qubits with quantum circuit refrigerator

Abstract: A periodically-driven superconducting nonlinear resonator can implement a Kerr-cat qubit, which provides a promising route to a quantum computer with a long lifetime. However, the system is vulnerable to pure dephasing, which causes unwanted excitations outside the qubit subspace. Therefore, we require a refrigeration technology which confines the system in the qubit subspace. We theoretically study on-chip refrigeration for Kerr-cat qubits based on photon-assisted electron tunneling at tunneling junctions, called quantum circuit refrigerator (QCR). Rates of QCR-induced deexcitations of the system can be changed by more than four orders of magnitude by tuning a bias voltage across the tunneling junctions. Unwanted QCR-induced bit flips are greatly suppressed due to quantum interference in the tunneling process, and thus the long lifetime is preserved. The QCR can serve as a tunable dissipation source which stabilizes Kerr-cat qubits.

98. Impact of Measurement Noise on Escaping Saddles in Variational Quantum Algorithms

Abstract: Stochastic gradient descent (SGD) is a frequently used optimization technique in classical machine learning and Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE). For the implementation of VQE on quantum hardware, the results are always affected by measurement shot noise. However, there are many unknowns about the structure and properties of the measurement noise in VQE and how it contributes to the optimization. In this work, we analyze the effect of measurement noise to the optimization dynamics. Especially, we focus on escaping from saddle points in the loss landscape, which is crucial in the minimization of the non-convex loss function. We find that the escape time (1) decreases as the measurement noise increases in a power-law fashion and (2) is expressed as a function of $\eta/N_s$ where $\eta$ is the learning rate and $N_s$ is the number of measurements. The latter means that the escape time is approximately constant when we vary $\eta$ and $N_s$ with the ratio $\eta/N_s$ held fixed. This scaling behavior is well explained by the stochastic differential equation (SDE) that is obtained by the continuous-time approximation of the discrete-time SGD. According to the SDE, $\eta/N_s$ is interpreted as the variance of measurement shot noise. This result tells us that we can learn about the optimization dynamics in VQE from the analysis based on the continuous-time SDE, which is theoretically simpler than the original discrete-time SGD., Comment: 10pages, 8figures

Abstract: This paper proposes an audio-conditioned phonemic and prosodic annotation model for building text-to-speech (TTS) datasets from unlabeled speech samples. For creating a TTS dataset that consists of label-speech paired data, the proposed annotation model leverages an automatic speech recognition (ASR) model to obtain phonemic and prosodic labels from unlabeled speech samples. By fine-tuning a large-scale pre-trained ASR model, we can construct the annotation model using a limited amount of label-speech paired data within an existing TTS dataset. To alleviate the shortage of label-speech paired data for training the annotation model, we generate pseudo label-speech paired data using text-only corpora and an auxiliary TTS model. This TTS model is also trained with the existing TTS dataset. Abstract: We introduce LibriTTS-P, a new corpus based on LibriTTS-R that includes utterance-level descriptions (i.e., prompts) of speaking style and speaker-level prompts of speaker characteristics. We employ a hybrid approach to construct prompt annotations: (1) manual annotations that capture human perceptions of speaker characteristics and (2) synthetic annotations on speaking style. Compared to existing English prompt datasets, our corpus provides more diverse prompt annotations for all speakers of LibriTTS-R. Experimental results for prompt-based controllable TTS demonstrate that the TTS model trained with LibriTTS-P achieves higher naturalness than the model using the conventional dataset. Furthermore, the results for style captioning tasks show that the model utilizing LibriTTS-P generates 2.5 times more accurate words than the model using a conventional dataset.
