(1) Background: Stroke incidence and outcomes are influenced by socioeconomic status. There is a paucity of reported population-level studies regarding these determinants. The goal of this ecological analysis was to determine the county-level associations of social determinants of stroke hospitalization and death rates in the United States. (2) Methods: Publicly available data as of 9 April 2021, for the socioeconomic factors and outcomes, was extracted from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outcomes of interest were “all stroke hospitalization rates per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries” (SHR) and “all stroke death rates per 100,000 population” (SDR). We used a multivariate binomial generalized linear mixed model after converting the outcomes to binary based on their median values. (3) Results: A total of 3226 counties/county-equivalents of the states and territories in the US were analyzed. Heart disease prevalence (odds ratio, OR = 2.03, p < 0.001), blood pressure medication nonadherence (OR = 2.02, p < 0.001), age-adjusted obesity (OR = 1.24, p = 0.006), presence of hospitals with neurological services (OR = 1.9, p < 0.001), and female head of household (OR = 1.32, p = 0.021) were associated with high SHR while cost of care per capita for Medicare patients with heart disease (OR = 0.5, p < 0.01) and presence of hospitals (OR = 0.69, p < 0.025) were associated with low SHR. Median household income (OR = 0.6, p < 0.001) and park access (OR = 0.84, p = 0.016) were associated with low SDR while no college degree (OR = 1.21, p = 0.049) was associated with high SDR. (4) Conclusions: Several socioeconomic factors (e.g., education, income, female head of household) were found to be associated with stroke outcomes. Additional research is needed to investigate intermediate and potentially modifiable factors that can serve as targeted interventions.

Fe 3 Sn 2 , a kagome ferromagnet, is a potential quantum material with intriguing topological features. Despite substantial experimental work on the bulk single crystals, the thin film growth of Fe 3 Sn 2 remains relatively unexplored. Here, we investigate the effect of two different seed layers (Ta and Pt) on the growth of Fe 3 Sn 2 thin films. We demonstrate the growth of polycrystalline Fe 3 Sn 2 thin films on Si/SiO 2 substrates by room temperature sputter deposition, followed by in situ annealing at 500 °C. Our structural and magnetic measurements indicate that a pure ferromagnetic phase is formed for the Pt/Fe 3 Sn 2 thin films with higher saturation magnetization of M s = 464 emu cc -1 , while a mixed-phase (consisting of ferromagnetic, Fe 3 Sn 2 and antiferromagnetic, FeSn) is formed for the Ta/Fe 3 Sn 2 thin films with a lower M s of 240 emu cc -1 . The Pt/Fe 3 Sn 2 thin films also exhibit an anomalous Hall coefficient, R s ≈ 2.6 × 10 -10 Ω cm -1 G -1 at room temperature, which is two order of magnitude higher compared to 3d-transition metal ferromagnets. A non-zero temperature-independent anomalous Hall conductivity σ intxy = (23 ± 11) Ω -1 cm -1 indicates an intrinsic mechanism of anomalous Hall effect originating from Berry curvature. These results are important for realizing novel topological spintronic devices on a CMOS-compatible substrate.

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a promising alternative to energy-intensive conventional wastewater technology. However, poor electron transfer efficiency, low coulombic recovery (CR), and high capital cost highly restricted its practical application. In this work, spatial electroactive biofilm is successfully developed on the carbonaceous skeleton derived from phenolic foam, which highly improved the bio-capacitance and Geobacter abundance of bioanode. Compared with carbon cloth (CC) anode, the optimal spatial electroactive biofilm (3DP&#95;900) enriched the Geobacter abundance up to 56.8% from 17.2%, and obtained an extraordinary electroactive biomass loading of about 339 ± 63 μg cm -2 and a remarkable bio-capacitance of about 3.4 F. In general, spatial biofilm highly reduces the barriers to electron transfer (R ct ) and mass transfer (R d ) in anodic substrate oxidation reaction and obtains the lowest R ct of 2.0 ± 0.2 Ω and R d of 35 ± 3.3 Ω in 3DP&#95;900, which also supports the highest power density at 0.347 ± 0.027 W m -2 and the highest CR at 69.2%. More importantly, due to its mature preparation technology, carbonized phenolic foam (2 cm thick pieces) reduces the capital cost of electrode preparation by three orders of magnitude from 1157.3 USD m -2 of CC to 5.2 USD m -2 . Takayasu arteritis is a rare progressive chronic granular inflammation of the vessels that mainly affects the aorta and its branches. It is widely distributed in the world population and mainly involves young Asian women, manifesting as a systemic illness with myriads of cardiovascular signs and symptoms. The current case focuses on a young girl who had shoulder pain and weakness as the only manifestation of underlying Takayasu arteritis. Cu x Co 1-x Fe 2 O 4 (x = 0.33, 0.67, 1)-reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanocomposites exhibiting highly efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding were prepared by a melt-mixing approach using a microcompounder. Spinel ferrite Cu 0.33 Co 0.67 Fe 2 O 4 (CuCoF1), Cu 0.67 Co 0.33 Fe 2 O 4 (CuCoF2) and CuFe 2 O 4 (CuF3) nanoparticles were synthesized using the sonochemical method. The CuCoF1 and CuCoF2 exhibited typical ferromagnetic features, whereas CuF3 displayed superparamagnetic characteristics. The maximum value of EMI total shielding effectiveness (SE T ) was noticed to be 42.9 dB, 46.2 dB, and 58.8 dB for CuCoF1-rGO-TPU, CuCoF2-rGO-TPU, and CuF3-rGO-TPU nanocomposites, respectively, at a thickness of 1 mm. The highly efficient EMI shielding performance was attributed to the good impedance matching, conductive, dielectric, and magnetic loss. The demonstrated nanocomposites are promising candidates for a lightweight, flexible, and highly efficient EMI shielding material.

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors-γ (PPAR-γ), a ligand-activated transcription factor, suggested having anti-inflammatory effects by activating the target genes when bound to the ligand. Herein, we examined a conformational analysis of 8708 derivatives of Kaempferol, Quercetin, and Resveratrol, the prime activators of PPAR-γ molecular target by employing molecular docking and dynamic simulation pipeline to screen out potential agonists. The structure-based docking procedure performed by FlexX tool shortlisted high binding affinities of these derivatives of Kaempferol, Quercetin and Resveratrol with the protein receptor with a score of -38.94 kcal/mol (4'-Carboxy-5, 7-Dihydroxyflavone-CDHF), -41.63 kcal/mol (Demethyltorosaflavone D- DMTF) and -31.52 kcal/mol (Resveratrol-O-disulphate- RD) respectively, signifying the selected derivatives forms interactions like H-bond, Aromatic H-Bond, Pi-Pi stacking and salt bridges with PPAR-γ. The PPAR-γ-derivative complex was stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and stacking interactions. A greater interaction was significantly observed between the binding affinities of derivatives compared to the standards. Based on the root mean square deviation (RMSD) and root mean square fluctuation (RMSF) carried by the means of high-speed molecular dynamics (MD) and simulation of best-docked poses, the ligand, DMTF attained the most favored interaction with PPAR-γ. Thus, it appeared to have high chemical scaffold diversity and may confer high drug-likeness. The binding free energy (ΔG) led us to manifest Quercetin derivative to have a key role for PPAR-γ receptor. The result obtained clearly indicates the exploitation of the promising new drug leads that may further influence in synthesizing and analyzing the development as anti-cancer agonists.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Background: Long-lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) are a core malaria intervention. LLINs should retain efficacy against mosquito vectors for a minimum of three years. Efficacy and durability of Olyset ® Plus, a permethrin and piperonyl butoxide (PBO) treated LLIN, was evaluated versus permethrin treated Olyset ® Net. In the absence of WHO guidelines of how to evaluate PBO nets, and considering the manufacturer's product claim, Olyset ® Plus was evaluated as a pyrethroid LLIN., Methods: This was a household randomized controlled trial in a malaria endemic rice cultivation zone of Kirinyaga County, Kenya between 2014 and 2017. Cone bioassays and tunnel tests were done against Anopheles gambiae Kisumu. The chemical content, fabric integrity and LLIN survivorship were monitored. Comparisons between nets were tested for significance using the Chi-square test. Exact binomial distribution with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) was used for percentages. The WHO efficacy criteria used were ≥ 95% knockdown and/or ≥ 80% mortality rate in cone bioassays and ≥ 80% mortality and/or ≥ 90% blood-feeding inhibition in tunnel tests., Results: At 36 months, Olyset ® Plus lost 52% permethrin and 87% PBO content; Olyset ® Net lost 24% permethrin. Over 80% of Olyset ® Plus and Olyset ® Net passed the WHO efficacy criteria for LLINs up to 18 and 12 months, respectively. At month 36, 91.2% Olyset ® Plus and 86.4% Olyset ® Net survived, while 72% and 63% developed at least one hole. The proportionate Hole Index (pHI) values representing nets in good, serviceable and torn condition were 49.6%, 27.1% and 23.2%, respectively for Olyset ® Plus, and 44.9%, 32.8% and 22.2%, respectively for Olyset ® Net but were not significantly different., Conclusions: Olyset ® Plus retained efficacy above or close to the WHO efficacy criteria for about 2 years than Olyset ® Net (1-1.5 years). Both nets did not meet the 3-year WHO efficacy criteria, and showed little attrition, comparable physical durability and survivorship, with 50% of Olyset ® Plus having good and serviceable condition after 3 years. Insecticides have played a major role in the prevention, control, and elimination of vector-borne diseases, but insecticide resistance threatens the efficacy of available vector control tools. A global survey was conducted to investigate vector control insecticide use from 2010 to 2019. Out of 140 countries selected as sample for the study, 87 countries responded. Also, data on ex-factory deliveries of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) were analyzed. Insecticide operational use was highest for control of malaria, followed by dengue, leishmaniasis and Chagas disease. Vector control relied on few insecticide classes with pyrethroids the most used overall. Results indicated that IRS programs have been slow to react to detection of pyrethroid resistance, while proactive resistance management using insecticides with unrelated modes of action was generally weak. The intensive use of recently introduced insecticide products raised concern about product stewardship regarding the preservation of insecticide susceptibility in vector populations. Resistance management was weakest for control of dengue, leishmaniasis or Chagas disease. Therefore, it will be vital that vector control programs coordinate on insecticide procurement, planning, implementation, resistance monitoring, and capacity building. Background: Through a nationally representative household survey in Afghanistan, we conducted an operational study in two relatively secure provinces comparing effectiveness of computer-aided personal interviewing (CAPI) with paper-and-pencil interviewing (PAPI)., Methods: In Panjshir and Parwan provinces, household survey data were collected using paper questionnaires in 15 clusters, and OpenDataKit (ODK) software on electronic tablets in 15 other clusters. Added value was evaluated from three perspectives: efficient implementation, data quality, and acceptability. Efficiency was measured through financial expenditures and time stamped data. Data quality was measured by examining completeness. Acceptability was studied through focus group discussions with survey staff., Results: Survey costs were 68% more expensive in CAPI clusters compared to PAPI clusters, due primarily to the upfront one-time investment for survey programming. Enumerators spent significantly less time administering surveys in CAPI cluster households (248 min survey time) compared to PAPI (289 min), for an average savings of 41 min per household (95% CI 25-55). CAPI offered a savings of 87 days for data management over PAPI. Among 49 tracer variables (meaning responses were required from all respondents), small differences were observed between PAPI and CAPI. 2.2% of the cleaned dataset's tracer data points were missing in CAPI surveys (1216/ 56,073 data points), compared to 3.2% in PAPI surveys (1953/ 60,675 data points). In pre-cleaned datasets, 3.9% of tracer data points were missing in CAPI surveys (2151/ 55,092 data points) compared to 3.2% in PAPI surveys (1924/ 60,113 data points). Enumerators from Panjsher and Parwan preferred CAPI over PAPI due to time savings, user-friendliness, improved data security, and less conspicuity when traveling; however approximately half of enumerators trained from all 34 provinces reported feeling unsafe due to Taliban presence. Community and household respondent skepticism could be resolved by enumerator reassurance. Enumerators shared that in the future, they prefer collecting data using CAPI when possible., Conclusions: CAPI offers clear gains in efficiency over PAPI for data collection and management time, although costs are relatively comparable even without the programming investment. As efforts are made to increase food security, millets are gaining increasing importance due to their excellent nutritional credentials. Among the millets, pearl millet is the predominant species possessing several health benefiting nutritional traits in its grain that are helpful in mitigating chronic illnesses such as type-2 diabetes and obesity. In this paper, we conducted metabolomic fingerprinting of 197 pearl millet inbred lines drawn randomly from within the world collection of pearl millet germplasm and report the extent of genetic variation for health benefitting metabolites in these genotypes. Metabolites were extracted from seeds and assessed using flow infusion high-resolution mass spectrometry (FIE-HRMS). Metabolite features ( m / z ), whose levels significantly differed among the germplasm inbred lines, were identified by ANOVA corrected for FDR and subjected to functional pathway analysis. A number of health-benefiting metabolites linked to dietary starch, antioxidants, vitamins, and lipid metabolism-related compounds were identified. Metabolic genome-wide association analysis (mGWAS) performed using the 396 m / z as phenotypic traits and the 76 K SNP as genotypic variants identified a total of 897 SNPs associated with health benefiting nutritional metabolite at the -log p -value ≤ 4.0. From these associations, 738 probable candidate genes were predicted to have an important role in starch, antioxidants, vitamins, and lipid metabolism. The mGWAS analysis focused on genes involved in starch branching (α-amylase, β-amylase), vitamin-K reductase, UDP-glucuronosyl, and UDP-glucosyl transferase (UGTs), L-ascorbate oxidase, and isoflavone 2'-monooxygenase genes, which are known to be linked to increases in human health benefiting metabolites. We demonstrate how metabolomic, genomic, and statistical approaches can be utilized to pinpoint genetic variations and their functions linked to key nutritional properties in pearl millet, which in turn can be bred into millets and other cereals crops using plant breeding methods.

Background: Many academic institutions have been cheering lecturers to execute flipped learning methodologies. The present study determined perceived competency of dental interns toward dental practice among various dental colleges., Materials and Methods: A total of 138 interns of dental college were provided with self-administered questionnaire with close-ended questions. All were instructed to read it and submit it., Results: Out of 138 subjects, there were 78 males and 60 females. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is badly affecting more than 2 million population of 213 countries and has caused 1,952,976 deaths till January 12, 2020. India has also suffered a great loss in terms of economy and people. Furthermore, owing to the complete lockdown enforced in India, restricting humanitarian movement also affected day-to-day life of Indians with a huge impact., Objectives: The present clinical trial was carried out to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on private practitioners. Furthermore, changes in their practice pattern were evaluated along with the perspective of their health, role, and response to the pandemic., Materials and Methods: The study includes a total of 120 health-care professionals of either gender. The stress and mental health of the participants was assessed using Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 in English format, also included the questions related to the demographic characteristics, use of technologies for providing virtual health care, changes in the working during the pandemic, and an opinion of their experiences during that period. The data collected were subjected to the analysis and were kept confidential and anonymous., Results: 16.6% of participants preferred virtual consultation before the pandemic in contrast to 83.3% during the pandemic. The most preferred method remained the phone call by 15.8% ( n = 19) patients. Depression was seen severely in 35% of study participants ( n = 42) and 13.3% of participants extremely severe depression was seen ( n = 16). Severe and extremely severe anxiety was noticed in 31.66% (=38) and 15% (18) study participants respectively, whereas severe and extremely severe stress was found in 30% ( n = 36), and 12.5% ( n = 15) private practitioners. The most common factor that can be considered responsible for compromised mental health in private practitioners was the possibility of infecting the society seen in 59.1% ( n = 71) participants., Conclusion: During the pandemic breakout, private practitioners suffered a great challenge both financially and mentally, especially during the lockdown. The development of flexible, lightweight, and thin high-performance electromagnetic interference shielding materials is urgently needed for the protection of humans, the environment, and electronic devices against electromagnetic radiation. To achieve this, the spinel ferrite nanoparticles CoFe 2 O 4 (CZ1), Co 0.67 Zn 0.33 Fe 2 O 4 (CZ2), and Co 0.33 Zn 0.67 Fe 2 O 4 (CZ3) were prepared by the sonochemical synthesis method. Further, these prepared spinel ferrite nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were embedded in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix. The maximum electromagnetic interference (EMI) total shielding effectiveness (SE T ) values in the frequency range 8.2-12.4 GHz of these nanocomposites with a thickness of only 0.8 mm were 48.3, 61.8, and 67.8 dB for CZ1-rGO-TPU, CZ2-rGO-TPU, and CZ3-rGO-TPU, respectively. The high-performance electromagnetic interference shielding characteristics of the CZ3-rGO-TPU nanocomposite stem from dipole and interfacial polarization, conduction loss, multiple scattering, eddy current effect, natural resonance, high attenuation constant, and impedance matching. India produces around 19.0 million tonnes of tomatoes annually, which is insufficient to meet the ever-increasing demand. A big gap of tomato productivity (72.14 t ha -1 ) between India (24.66 t ha -1 ) and the USA (96.8 t ha -1 ) exist, which can be bridged by integrating trellis system of shoot training, shoot pruning, liquid fertilizers, farmyard manure, and mulching technologies. Therefore, the present experiment was conducted on tomato (cv. Himsona) during 2019-2020 at farmers' fields to improve tomato productivity and quality. There were five treatments laid in a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications; T 1 [Farmer practice on the flatbed with RDF @ N 120 :P 60 :K 60  + FYM @6.0 t ha -1 without mulch], T 2 [T 1  + Polythene mulch (50 microns)], T 3 [Tomato plants grown on the raised bed with polythene mulch + FYM @ 8.0 t ha -1  + Single shoot trellis system + Side shoot pruning + Liquid Fertilizer (LF 1 -N 19 :P 19 :K 19 ) @ 2.0 g l -1 for vegetative growth + Liquid Fertilizer (LF 2 -N 0 : P 52 : K 34 ) @ 1.5 g l -1 for improving fruit quality], T 4 [Tomato plants grown on the raised bed with polythene mulch + FYM @ 8.0 t ha -1  + Single shoot trellis system + Side shoot pruning + LF 1 @ 4.0 g l -1  + LF 2 @ 3.0 g l -1 ], and T 5 [Tomato plants grown on the raised bed with polythene mulch + FYM @ 10.0 t ha -1  + Single shoot trellis system + Side shoot pruning + LF 1 @ 6.0 g l -1  + LF 2 @ 4.5 g l -1 ]. The results revealed that tomato plant grown on the raised beds with polythene mulch, shoot pruning, trellising, liquid fertilizers, and farmyard manure (i.e., T 5 ) recorded higher shoot length, dry matter content, and tomato productivity by 20.75-141.21, 18.79-169.4, and 18.89-160.87% as compared to T 4 -T 1 treatments, respectively. The T 5 treatment also recorded the highest water productivity (28.39 kg m -3 ), improved fruit qualities, net return (10,751 USD ha -1 ), benefit-cost ratio (3.08), microbial population, and enzymatic activities as compared to other treatments. Pulmonary tuberculosis, caused by  Mycobacterium tuberculosis,  is a significant public health issue, especially in developing countries, affecting millions of people every year. Despite the development of many antitubercular antibiotics and increased awareness of preventive methods, it is still a major cause of mortality worldwide. Vitamin D, a micronutrient known to have a major role in bone and calcium metabolism, has also shown its immunomodulatory effects to suppress mycobacterial growth. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available evidence to explore the association between vitamin D levels and tuberculosis. We performed a systematic search for articles from inception to May 2021 in multiple databases. We included 26 studies in our qualitative synthesis and 12 studies in meta-analysis or quantitative synthesis. In our meta-analysis, we used a random-effect model to calculate the odds ratio (OR) of vitamin D deficiency in tuberculosis patients compared to the healthy controls. On pooled analysis, we found that the odds of the participants having vitamin D deficiency was 3.23 times more in tuberculosis patients compared to the healthy group (OR=3.23, CI = 1.91-5.45, p<0.0001). Thus, we concluded that there is an association between low levels of vitamin D and tuberculosis infections. Objectives: Indoor residual spraying (IRS) with insecticides is the main vector control intervention for the elimination of visceral leishmaniasis in India. After a change in IRS policy in 2015 due to widespread resistance of Phlebotomus argentipes to DDT, IRS with DDT was replaced with alpha-cypermethrin IRS in 2016. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the susceptibility of P. argentipes to DDT and its alternatives, namely malathion and pirimiphos-methyl (organophosphates); alpha-cypermethrin, deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin and permethrin (pyrethroids), and bendiocarb and propoxur (carbamates), in support of visceral leishmaniasis elimination in India., Methods: Phlebotomus argentipes sandflies were collected from the visceral-leishmaniasis endemic states of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. In the WHO tube tests, the phenotypic susceptibility of F1, 2-day old, non-blood fed females were determined against filter papers impregnated with DDT 4%, malathion 5%, pirimiphos-methyl 0.25%, alpha-cypermethrin 0.05%, deltamethrin 0.05%, lambda-cyhalothrin 0.05%, permethrin 0.75%, bendiocarb 0.1% and propoxur 0.1%, which were sourced from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The knockdown of sandflies after 1-h exposure and mortality at 24 h after the 1-h exposure period were scored., Results: Mean mortality of P. argentipes 24 h after exposure in tube tests was 22.6% for DDT and ≥ 98% for other insecticide-impregnated papers tested., Conclusion: Phlebotomus argentipes continues to be highly resistant to DDT with no reversal of resistance after DDT's withdrawal from IRS. P. argentipes was fully susceptible to pyrethroid, organophosphate and carbamate insecticides tested. Background & Objectives: Universal coverage of population with long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) living in endemic areas inhabited by ethnic tribal communities or in difficult to reach areas was found effective for disease control where other interventions such as indoor residual spraying have limited success because of operational issues. Evaluation of different LLINs with varied insecticides and fabrics are being evaluated to meet the demand of new products. This study was undertaken on two brands of LLINs, DuraNet© and Interceptor® that varied in fabric and manufacturing technologies to assess the usability in field conditions for atleast three years., Methods: In large-scale field trials DuraNet©, alpha cypermethrin incorporated polyethylene net, was evaluated in Odisha state while, Interceptor® net, alpha cypermethrin coated polyester net was evaluated in Chhattisgarh and Gujarat states for a period of three years following WHO guidelines. Durability, usage pattern and washing behavior were monitored through periodic surveys and physical examination of nets., Results: Survivorship of both the nets was 84-100% and every night usage rate was >62% in all seasons. Washing frequency was largely within the prescribed limits. The proportion of DuraNet© with holes was 26.7% in year one 74% in year three. In Gujarat, proportion of Interceptor® nets with holes at six months was 33.3% increased to 87% in year three and in Chhattisgarh, 6.7% after six months to 93.3% after three years of use respectively., Interpretation & Conclusion: Both the nets revealed a useful life of three years under the field condition., Competing Interests: None

Pearl millet [ Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R Br.] is an important staple food crop in the semi-arid tropics of Asia and Africa. It is a cereal grain that has the prospect to be used as a substitute for wheat flour for celiac patients. It is an important antioxidant food resource present with a wide range of phenolic compounds that are good sources of natural antioxidants. The present study aimed to identify the total antioxidant content of pearl millet flour and apply it to evaluate the antioxidant activity of its 222 genotypes drawn randomly from the pearl millet inbred germplasm association panel (PMiGAP), a world diversity panel of this crop. The total phenolic content (TPC) significantly correlated with DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity (% inhibition), which ranged from 2.32 to 112.45% and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) activity ranging from 21.68 to 179.66 (mg ascorbic acid eq./100 g). Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) were conducted using 222 diverse accessions and 67 K SNPs distributed across all the seven pearl millet chromosomes. Approximately, 218 SNPs were found to be strongly associated with DPPH and FRAP activity at high confidence [-log ( p ) > 3.0-7.4]. Furthermore, flanking regions of significantly associated SNPs were explored for candidate gene harvesting. This identified 18 candidate genes related to antioxidant pathway genes (flavanone 7-O-beta-glycosyltransferase, GDSL esterase/lipase, glutathione S-transferase) residing within or near the association signal that can be selected for further functional characterization. Background: Vector control plays a critical role in the prevention, control and elimination of vector-borne diseases, and interventions of vector control continue to depend largely on the action of chemical insecticides. A global survey was conducted on the management practices of vector control insecticides at country level to identify gaps to inform future strategies on pesticide management, seeking to improve efficacy of interventions and reduce the side-effects of chemicals used on health and the environment., Methods: A survey by questionnaire on the management practices of vector control insecticides was disseminated among all WHO Member States. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics in MS Excel., Results: Responses were received from 94 countries, or a 48% response rate. Capacity for insecticide resistance monitoring was established in 68-80% of the countries in most regions, often with external support; however, this capacity was largely lacking from the European & Others Region (i.e. Western & Eastern Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand). Procurement of vector control insecticides was in 50-75% of countries taking place by agencies other than the central-level procuring agency, over which the central authorities lacked control, for example, to select the product or assure its quality, highlighting the importance of post-market monitoring. Moreover, some countries experienced problems with estimating the correct amounts for procurement, especially for emergency purposes. Large fractions (29-78%) of countries across regions showed shortcomings in worker safety, pesticide storage practices and pesticide waste disposal. Shortcomings were most pronounced in countries of the European & Others Region, which has long been relatively free from mosquito-borne diseases but has recently faced challenges of re-emerging vector-borne diseases., Conclusions: Critical shortcomings in the management of vector control insecticides are common in countries across regions, with risks of adverse pesticide effects on health and the environment. Advocacy and resource mobilization are needed at regional and country levels to address these challenges.

A unique strategy for the attainment of a discotic nematic (N D ) mesophase is reported consisting of a central benzene core to which are attached two 4-alkylphenyl and two 4-pentylbiphenyl moieties diagonally via alkynyl linkers. The rotational nature and incompatibility of unequal phenylethynyl units led to the disruption of π-π interactions within cores that aids to the realization of N D phase and favors high solid-state emission. When used in OLEDs, compounds act as an efficient solid-state pure deep-blue emitter with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE x , y ) coordinates of (0.16, 0.07).

Interventions to control the vectors of human diseases, notably malaria, leishmaniasis and dengue, have relied mainly on the action of chemical insecticides. However, concerns have been raised regarding the management of insecticides in vector-borne disease-endemic countries. Our study aimed to analyze how vector control insecticides are managed in selected countries to extract lessons learned. A qualitative analysis of the situation of vector control insecticides management was conducted in six countries. Multi-stakeholder meetings and key informer interviews were conducted on aspects covering the pesticide lifecycle. Findings were compared and synthesized to extract lessons learned. Centrally executed guidelines and standards on the management of insecticides offered direction and control in most malaria programs, but were largely lacking from decentralized dengue programs, where practices of procurement, application, safety, storage, and disposal were variable between districts. Decentralized programs were better at facilitating participation of stakeholders and local communities and securing financing from local budgets. However, little coordination existed between malaria, visceral leishmaniasis and dengue programs within countries. Entomological capacity was concentrated in malaria programs at central level, while dengue and visceral leishmaniasis programs were missing out on expertise. Monitoring systems for insecticide resistance in malaria vectors were rarely used for dengue or visceral leishmaniasis vectors. Strategies for insecticide resistance management, where present, did not extend across programs or sectors in most countries. Dengue programs in most countries continued to rely on space spraying which, considering the realities on the ground, call for revision of international guidelines. Vector control programs in the selected countries were confronted with critical shortcomings in the procurement, application, safety measures, storage, and disposal of vector control insecticides, with implications for the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of vector control. Superparamagnetic ZnFe 2 O 4 spinel ferrite nanoparticles were prepared by the sonochemical synthesis method at different ultra-sonication times of 25 min (ZS25), 50 min (ZS50), and 100 min (ZS100). The structural properties of ZnFe 2 O 4 spinel ferrite nanoparticles were controlled via sonochemical synthesis time. The average crystallite size increases from 3.0 nm to 4.0 nm with a rise of sonication time from 25 min to 100 min. The change of physical properties of ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles with the increase of sonication time was observed. The prepared ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles show superparamagnetic behavior. The prepared ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (ZS25, ZS50, and ZS100) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were embedded in a polyurethane resin (PUR) matrix as a shield against electromagnetic pollution. The ultra-sonication method has been used for the preparation of nanocomposites. The total shielding effectiveness (SE T ) value for the prepared nanocomposites was studied at a thickness of 1 mm in the range of 8.2-12.4 GHz. The high attenuation constant (α) value of the prepared ZS100-RGO-PUR nanocomposite as compared with other samples recommended high absorption of electromagnetic waves. The existence of electric-magnetic nanofillers in the resin matrix delivered the inclusive acts of magnetic loss, dielectric loss, appropriate attenuation constant, and effective impedance matching. The synergistic effect of ZnFe 2 O 4 and RGO in the PUR matrix led to high interfacial polarization and, consequently, significant absorption of the electromagnetic waves. The outcomes and methods also assure an inventive and competent approach to develop lightweight and flexible polyurethane resin matrix-based nanocomposites, consisting of superparamagnetic zinc ferrite nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide as a shield against electromagnetic pollution.

Objectives: To evaluate the entomological efficacy and the residual activity of indoor residual spraying with Fludora ® Fusion 562.5 WP-SB, a combination formulation containing clothianidin, a neonicotinoid and deltamethrin, a pyrethroid, against the main rural malaria vector, Anopheles culicifacies s.l., in India in a small-scale trial., Methods: In three study villages, suitable households were randomly allocated to five treatments: Fludora ® Fusion 562.5 WP-SB (target dose 225 mg active ingredient AI/m 2 ); clothianidin 70 WG (target dose 200 mg AI/m 2 ); K-Othrine 250 WG (deltamethrin, target dose 25 mg AI/m 2 ); Ficam VC 80 WP-SB (bendiocarb, target dose 400 mg AI/m 2 ) and unsprayed control. Insecticides were sprayed by hand compression sprayers with control flow valves and 8002E nozzles. Post-spray cone bioassays were done on insecticide-treated walls using a colonised, deltamethrin-resistant strain of An. culicifacies. Mosquitoes were collected from treated rooms by different methods. The insecticide content on filter papers collected from the sprayed walls was determined by chemical assay to assess the spray quality., Results: The ratios of applied to target doses of insecticides were within 0.84 to 1.4, showing a good spray quality. The cone bioassays revealed residual action lasting 7 months for all insecticides without significant differences in mortality between different surfaces treated nor between the four treatment arms (P > 0.05). Considering all entomological parameters such as indoor resting density, excito-repellency, blood-feeding inhibition and delayed mortality, the overall efficacy of Fludora ® Fusion WG-SB was equal or better compared with other insecticides., Conclusions: Fludora ® Fusion showed overall equal or better efficacy than deltamethrin and bendiocarb alone against a pyrethroid-resistant malaria vector population and can be considered as an alternative product for management of pyrethroid resistance in malaria vectors., (© 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Background and aims Acute upper gastrointestinal (UGI) bleeding is one of the serious and potentially life-threatening medical emergencies, causing significant mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to evaluate the clinico-endoscopic profile and outcome among patients aged <60 years who presented for UGI bleeding compared to those aged ≥60 years. Methods This prospective observational study was conducted among 194 patients who presented with symptoms or signs of UGI bleed. All patients were divided into two groups, group A (age <60 years), and group B (age ≥60 years). UGI endoscopy was performed using Olympus N19 Endoscope. Rockall scoring (RS) system and Glasgow Blatchford score (GBS) were used to predict the prognosis and re-bleeding. Results Of the total, group A included 150 (77.31%) patients and group B 44 (22.69%) patients. The most common presentation was hematemesis and melena in both groups, whilst isolated hematochezia was more common in group A (6.67%, vs. 2.27%, p>0.05). The main cause of bleeding was a variceal bleed in both groups, but it was significantly higher in group A patients (p<0.05). Elderly patients had a significantly higher number of peptic ulcer and malignancy-related bleed (p<0.05). Group A patients had a significantly higher proportion of patients with tachycardia (45.33%, vs. 27.27%, p<0.05), shock (43.33% vs. 13.63%, p<0.05), pallor (76.66% vs. 56.81%, p<0.05), and blood transfusion requirement (64% vs. 45.45%, p<0.05) as compared to group B. Thirty days re-bleeding and mortality rate were similar in both the groups. RS in both groups was 5.02±2.12 vs. 5.98±1.91, p>0.05. GBS was 11.65±4.61 vs. 10.68±4.65, p>0.05. Mortality was significantly higher in patients with RS ≥6 and GBS ≥10. Conclusion This study concluded variceal bleeding as a predominant cause of UGI bleed in both age groups, and it was significantly higher in younger. Interestingly, younger patients were more hemodynamically unstable, probably due to the presence of more severe anemia, shock, and hematochezia. The conversion of NIR light into visible light has been studied in Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ /Bi 3+ co-doped ZnGa 2 O 4 phosphor for the first time. The crystallinity and particles size of the phosphor increase through Bi 3+ doping. The absorption characteristics of Ho 3+ , Yb 3+ and Bi 3+ ions are identified by the UV-vis-NIR measurements. The Ho 3+ doped phosphor produces intense green upconversion (UC) emission under 980 nm excitations. The emission intensity ~ excitation power density plots show contribution of two photons for the UC emissions. The UC intensity of green emission is weak in the Ho 3+ doped phosphor, which enhances upto 128 and 228 times through co-doping of Yb 3+ and Yb 3+ /Bi 3+ ions, respectively. The relative and absolute temperature sensing sensitivities of Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ /5Bi 3+ co-doped ZnGa 2 O 4 phosphor are calculated to be 13.6 × 10 -4 and 14.3 × 10 -4  K -1 , respectively. The variation in concentration of Bi 3+ ion and power density produces excellent color tunability from green to red via yellow regions. The CCT also varies with concentration of Bi 3+ ion and power density from cool to warm light. The color purity of phosphor is achieved to 98.6% through Bi 3+ doping. Therefore, the Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ /Bi 3+ :ZnGa 2 O 4 phosphors can be suitable for UC-based color tunable devices, green light emitting diodes and temperature sensing.

Earlier we have reported mercury-induced alterations in functional dynamics of buck spermatozoa through free radicals-mediated oxidative stress and spontaneous acrosome reaction. Based on our earlier findings, we aimed to investigate the effect of mercury exposure on motility, kinematic patterns, DNA damage, apoptosis and ultra-structural alterations in goat spermatozoa following in vitro exposure to different concentrations (0.031-1.25 µg/ml) of mercuric chloride for 15 min and 3 h. Following exposure of sperm cells to 0.031 µg/ml of mercuric chloride for 3 h, livability and motility of sperms was significantly reduced along with altered kinematic patterns, significant increase in per cent necrotic sperm cells and number of cells showing DNA damage; and this effect was dose- and time-dependent. Contrary to up-regulation of Bax gene after 3 h in control group, there was significant increase in expression of Bcl-2 in mercury-treated groups. Transmission electron microscopy studies revealed rifts and nicks in plasma and acrosomal membrane, mitochondrial sheath, and collapsed mitochondria with loss of helical organization of mitochondria in the middle piece of spermatozoa. Our findings evidently suggest that mercury induces necrosis instead of apoptosis and targets the membrane, acrosome, mid piece of sperms; and the damage to mitochondria seems to be responsible for alterations in functional and kinematic attributes of spermatozoa.

In this paper, we have studied the structural, optical, dielectric and magnetic properties of Eu 3+ , Bi 3+ co-doped LaVO 4 phosphors prepared by solid state reaction method. Rietveld structural analysis of the samples confirms the monoclinic crystal structure with P2 1 /n space group. The particles size of Eu 3+ doped LaVO 4 phosphor increased in presence of Bi 3+ ion. The excitation spectrum of Eu 3+ , Bi 3+ co-doped LaVO 4 phosphor reveals bands due to charge transfer state (CTS) and electronic transitions of Eu 3+ and Bi 3+ ions. The Eu 3+ doped LaVO 4 phosphor gives intense red emission centred at 613 nm due to 5 D 0  →  7 F 2 transition of Eu 3+ ion excited at 266, 355 and 394 nm wavelengths. When Bi 3+ and Eu 3+ ions are co-doped in the LaVO 4 phosphor the photoluminescence intensity is enhanced upto two times. The photoluminescence intensity is largest for the 266 nm excitation. This is due to energy transfer from CTS and ( 1 P 1 , 3 P 1 ) levels of the Bi 3+ ion to 5 D 4 level of the Eu 3+ ion and increase in the particles size of phosphor. The Eu 3+ , Bi 3+ co-doped LaVO 4 phosphors also show excellent dielectric and magnetic properties with a variation in frequency and magnetic field, respectively. In this work, various tunable sized spinel ferrite MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (namely MF20, MF40, MF60 and MF80) with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were embedded in a polypropylene (PP) matrix. The particle size and structural feature of magnetic filler MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were controlled by sonochemical synthesis time 20 min, 40 min, 60 min and 80 min. As a result, the electromagnetic interference shielding characteristics of developed nanocomposites MF20-RGO-PP, MF40-RGO-PP, MF60-RGO-PP and MF80-RGO-PP were also controlled by tuning of magnetic/dielectric loss. The maximum value of total shielding effectiveness (SE T ) was 71.3 dB for the MF80-RGO-PP nanocomposite sample with a thickness of 0.5 mm in the frequency range (8.2-12.4 GHz). This lightweight, flexible and thin nanocomposite sheet based on the appropriate size of MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles with reduced graphene oxide demonstrates a high-performance advanced nanocomposite for cutting-edge electromagnetic interference shielding application.

Present study was undertaken on buck spermatozoa to investigate the effect of mercuric chloride on functional dynamics of buck spermatozoa. Four different concentrations (0.031, 0.125, 0.25 and 1.25 μg/mL) of mercuric chloride, which were 1/40 th , 1/10 th , 1/5 th and equivalent to the LC 50 value of HgCl 2 , were selected for studying their effect following in vitro exposure for 15 min and 3 h. Exposure of spermatozoa to 0.031 μg/mL mercuric chloride for 3 h resulted in significant (p < 0.05) decrease in sperm motility, sperm having intact membrane, intact acrosome and high mitochondrial trans-membrane potential. However, following exposure to higher concentrations (0.25, 1.25 μg/mL), similar results were observed even after 15 min of exposure. HgCl 2 significantly (p < 0.05) increased the levels of malondialdehyde and reactive oxygen species and significantly (p < 0.05) decreased total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase activity in spermatozoa within 15 min of exposure. Mercuric chloride-treated spermatozoa did not show capacitation, rather exhibited spontaneous acrosome reaction along with significant increase in intracellular Ca 2+ and cAMP levels. Immuno-blotting of semen samples of control and 0.031 μg/mL mercury-treated groups showed low intensity bands of p55, p70, p80, p105 and p190 kDa tyrosine phosphorylation proteins while higher concentration-treated groups showed no such bands. Our findings evidently suggest that mercuric chloride even at 0.031 μg/mL adversely affected sperm functions, inhibited tyrosine phosphorylation proteins and capacitation due to oxidative stress. Spontaneous acrosome reaction (AR) in mercury-treated spermatozoa may possibly be due to increase in intracellular Ca 2+ and cAMP levels, and capacitation failure may be due to inhibition of tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins.

Pesticide lifecycle management encompasses a range of elements from legislation, regulation, manufacturing, application, risk reduction, monitoring, and enforcement to disposal of pesticide waste. A survey was conducted in 2017-2018 to describe the contemporary global status of pesticide lifecycle management, to identify where the gaps are found. A three-tiered questionnaire was distributed to government entities in 194 countries. The response rate was 29%, 27% and 48% to the first, second and third part of the questionnaire, respectively. The results showed gaps for most of the selected indicators of pesticide management, suggesting that pesticide efficacy and safety to human health and the environment are likely being compromised at various stages of the pesticide lifecycle, and at varying degrees across the globe. Low-income countries generally had the highest incidence of gaps. Particular shortcomings were deficiencies in pesticide legislation, inadequate capacity for pesticide registration, protection against occupational exposure to pesticides, consumer protection against residues in food, and environmental protection against pesticide contamination. Policy support for, and implementation of, pesticide use-reduction strategies such as integrated pest management and integrated vector management has been inadequate across regions. Haemophilia is an X-linked genetic disorder in which A and B types are the most common that occur due to absence or lack of protein factors VIII and IX, respectively. Severity of the disease depends on mutation. Available Machine Learning (ML) methods that predict the mutational severity by using traditional encoding approaches, generally have high time complexity and compromised accuracy. In this study, Haemophilia 'A' patient mutation dataset containing 7784 mutations was processed by the proposed Position-Specific Mutation (PSM) and One-Hot Encoding (OHE) technique to predict the disease severity. The dataset processed by PSM and OHE methods was analyzed and trained for classification of mutation severity level using various ML algorithms. Surprisingly, PSM outperformed OHE, both in terms of time efficiency and accuracy, with training and prediction time improvement in the range of approximately 91 to 98% and 80 to 99% respectively. Background: Gluten sensitivity among psoriasis patients and its association with gender, age, disease duration and severity of psoriasis are under studied in Indians., Objective: To examine association among serum levels of anti-tTG and anti-gliadin antibodies and clinical features including gender, age, duration and severity of psoriasis., Methods: Serum levels of anti-transglutaminase and anti-gliadin antibodies were measured quantitatively in 80 (M:F 57:23) psoriasis patients aged 15 to 83 years and matched healthy subjects., Results: Forty-five (56.3%) patients were aged ≥41years, duration of disease was >5years in 43(53.8%) patients, and 22 (27.5%) patients had moderate-to-severe psoriasis. Two (2.5%) patients had arthritis and elevated serum anti-gliadin antibody. Significantly more patients than controls had elevated serum anti-gliadin antibody (67.5% vs. 2.5%) and anti-transglutaminase antibody levels (62.5% vs. 0%). Two patients, each with mild and moderate-to-severe psoriasis, had highly elevated serum anti-gliadin antibody and symptoms akin to coeliac disease. Except for a longer duration of psoriasis in patients with elevated anti-gliadin antibodies, there was no statistically significant difference in gender, age, and severity of psoriasis when compared with patients having normal levels., Conclusion: Significant elevation of serum anti-transglutaminase and anti-gliadin antibodies levels is noted in psoriasis patients reflecting a possible link. However, results need careful interpretation for any significance of gluten sensitivity in pathogenesis of psoriasis/arthritis or as a stand-alone risk factor for chronicity/severity of psoriasis or whether gluten-free diet will be ameliorating. Background: Association of psoriasis with other autoimmune diseases remains an ongoing research subject., Objectives: To investigate the association of psoriasis with other autoimmune disorders., Materials and Methods: We studied 80 (M: F 57:23) psoriasis patients aged 13-75 years for concurrent autoimmune disorders. After clinical examination, hemogram, fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, thyroid function tests, anti-TPO antibody, rheumatoid factor, anti-tTG antibody, anti-CCP antibody, ANA, anti-dsDNA antibody, anti-Ro antibody, and fecal calprotectin were estimated., Results: Mild-to-moderate and severe psoriasis was present in 86.3% and 13.8% patients, respectively. Psoriatic arthritis was present in 3.8% patients, all of whom also had severe psoriasis. Only 37 (46.3%) patients had clinical and/or sero-abnormality suggestive of autoimmune disorders; vitiligo in 3.8%, type-1 diabetes mellitus (DM) in 1.3%, and type-2 DM in 6.3% patients. Sero-positivity reflecting subclinical autoimmunity was noted for anti-CCP antibodies (in 2.5%), rheumatoid factor (in 2.5%), hypo- or hyper-thyroidism (in 8.8%), anti-TPO antibodies (in 5.0%), anti-tTG antibody (in 1.3%), ANA (in 5.0%), anti-dsDNA antibody (in 2.5%), and anti-Ro antibody in 11.3% patients. Elevated fecal calprotectin levels suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) occurred in 11.2% of 27 patients. Multiple abnormalities happened in 2.5% patients., Conclusion: Apparently psoriasis patients seem to have a predilection for other autoimmune disorders particularly for vitiligo, diabetes mellitus, autoimmune thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, and IBD. However, association between psoriasis and other autoimmune disorders at best remains tenuous for want of strong evidence. Nevertheless, screening for them will improve overall management of these patients. Earlier, we reported that chronic exposure to pesticides causes a reduction in the acetylcholinesterase activity and hematological and biochemical alterations in agriculture workers. In continuation with that, the present study aimed to investigate the pesticide-induced neurochemical imbalance and its association with behavior alterations in agricultural workers. A significant increase in depressive symptoms, assessed by the Beck Depression Inventory-II was observed in pesticide exposed workers as compared to the unexposed. A decrease in the level of dopamine in plasma and levels of dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, homovanillic acids, norepinephrine, serotonin, and hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine was also observed. An increase in the levels of MAO-A and MAO-B has also been observed in these individuals. The decreased levels of neurotransmitters in the blood and urine have been linked with increased levels of MAO and pesticide residues in plasma and urine. Chronic exposure to arsenic through drinking water and occupational exposure has been found to be associated with the diabetic symptoms. Earlier, we reported that arsenic induced enhanced oxidative stress, inflammation, dislipidemia and hepatotoxicity in mice have been protected by treatment with Emblica officinalis (amla). The present study has therefore been focused to investigate the efficacy of amla in mitigation of arsenic induced hyperglycemia in mice. Arsenic exposure (3 mg/kg b.w./day for 30 days) in mice altered glucose homeostasis and significantly decreases hepatic glucose regulatory enzyme, glucokinase (43%), glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (38%), malic enzyme (60%) and significantly increases the level of glucose-6 phosphates (65%), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (43%), lactate, (59%) Na + (6.8%) Cl - (10.4%), anion gap (13.9%) and pancreatic (IL-1β, TNF-α) inflammation markers (52%, 53%) as compared to controls. Arsenic exposure also significantly decreased serum insulin (44%) and c-peptide protein (38%) in mice as compared to controls. Co-administration of arsenic and amla (500 mg/kg b.w./day for 30 days) balanced blood sugar level, hepatic glucose regulatory enzyme (glucokinase, glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme (68%, 37%, 45%) and significantly decreases glucose-6 phosphatase (25%), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (22%), blood ion concentration and also lactate, Na + , Cl - and anion gap (20%, 4.6%, 6.7%, 5.2%), pancreatic (IL-1β, TNF-α) inflammation marker (21%, 24%) and significantly increased the serum insulin (57%) and c-peptide protein (31%) as compared to those treated with arsenic alone. Pearl millet is a climate-resilient, drought-tolerant crop capable of growing in marginal environments of arid and semi-arid regions globally. Pearl millet is a staple food for more than 90 million people living in poverty and can address the triple burden of malnutrition substantially. It remained a neglected crop until the turn of the 21st century, and much emphasis has been placed since then on the development of various genetic and genomic resources for whole-genome scan studies, such as the genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS). This was facilitated by the advent of sequencing-based genotyping, such as genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), RAD-sequencing, and whole-genome re-sequencing (WGRS) in pearl millet. To carry out GWAS and GS, a world association mapping panel called the Pearl Millet inbred Germplasm Association Panel (PMiGAP) was developed at ICRISAT in partnership with Aberystwyth University. This panel consisted of germplasm lines, landraces, and breeding lines from 27 countries and was re-sequenced using the WGRS approach. It has a repository of circa 29 million genome-wide SNPs. PMiGAP has been used to map traits related to drought tolerance, grain Fe and Zn content, nitrogen use efficiency, components of endosperm starch, grain yield, etc. Genomic selection in pearl millet was jump-started recently by WGRS, RAD, and tGBS (tunable genotyping-by-sequencing) approaches for the PMiGAP and hybrid parental lines. Using multi-environment phenotyping of various training populations, initial attempts have been made to develop genomic selection models. Background: Atrial myxoma remains a rare clinical entity with an incidence of surgically resected cases of 0.5-0.7 per million population and prevalence of < 5 per 10,000. It typically manifests in woman after third decade of life; symptoms vary greatly and may present with arrhythmia, intracardiac flow obstruction, embolic phenomenon, and associated constitutional symptoms. Neurological complications associated with atrial myxoma most frequently include cerebral infarct due to embolus. Cerebellar involvement is very rare and only a few cases have been reported in the literature., Case Presentation: A 55-year-old Brahmin man with no history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, presented with complaints of dizziness, headache, vomiting, double vision, and unsteadiness of gait for 2 weeks. His headache was sudden in onset, of a pulsating type and localized on left temporal side. Vomiting was projectile and bilious. Double vision was present in all directions of gaze and he had uncoordinated movement of his body and tilting to the left side. On examination, his cerebellar functions were impaired. He was thoroughly investigated for the cause of stroke after abnormal magnetic resonance imaging results with normal computed tomography angiography of his brain. Echocardiography and computed tomography of his chest showed a mass attached to intra-atrial septum and prolapsing through mitral valve, which was suggestive of left atrial myxoma. Five days following admission, he developed abdominal pain due to thromboembolism causing splenic and renal infarct., Conclusion: Although rare, atrial myxoma has to be considered a cause of stroke and other embolic phenomenon causing multiorgan infarctions. Early and timely diagnosis of the condition can prevent further recurrence and inappropriate anticoagulant therapy. It would be pertinent to have echocardiography done in patients who present with a stroke, arrhythmias, and other constitutional symptoms. The tumor once detected must be removed surgically as early as possible, which not only reduces serious thromboembolic complications but can be potentially curative.

The present study investigated the protective effect of curcumin and mitochondrial-targeted curcumin (MTC) in rotenone-induced cerebellar toxicity in mice. Treatment of rotenone in mice significantly shortened the stride length for both forelimb and hind-limb and increased fore-paws and hind-limb base width. Co-treatment of curcumin and MTC with rotenone improved the walking pattern. A significant increase in lipid peroxidation, nitric oxide and decreased activity of AChE, reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase were observed in rotenone-treated mice while co-treatment of curcumin and MTC with rotenone significantly increased AChE activity and protected against rotenone-induced oxidative damage. Rotenone exposed mice showed irregular, damaged Purkinje cells and perineuronal vacuolation while co-treatment of curcumin and MTC with rotenone protected against rotenone-induced cellular damage in these cells. At this time, COVID-2019 is spreading its foot in the form of a huge epidemic for the world. This epidemic is spreading its foot very fast in India too. One of the World Health Organization states that COVID-2019 is a serious disease that spreads from one person to another at very fast speed through contact routes and respiratory drops. On this day, India and the world should rise to an effective step to analyze this disease and eliminate the effects of this epidemic. In this paper presented, the growing database of COVID-2019 has been analyzed from March 1, 2020, to April 11, 2020, and the next one is predicted for the number of patients suffering from the rising COVID-2019. Different regression analysis models have been utilized for data analysis of COVID-2019 of India based on data stored by Kaggle in between 1 March 2020 to 11 April 2020. In this study, we have been utilized six regression analysis based models namely quadratic, third degree, fourth degree, fifth degree, sixth degree, and exponential polynomial respectively for the COVID-2019 dataset. We have calculated the root mean square of these six regression analysis models. In these six models, the root mean square error of sixth degree polynomial is very less in compared other like quadratic, third degree, fourth degree, fifth degree, and exponential polynomial. Therefore the sixth degree polynomial regression model is very good models for forecasting the next 6 days for COVID-2019 data analysis in India. In this study, we have found that the sixth degree polynomial regression models will help Indian doctors and the Government in preparing their plans in the next 7 days. Background: In view of widespread pyrethroid resistance in malaria vectors in Africa, two long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) incorporated with a synergist, piperonyl butoxide (PBO), DawaPlus 3.0 (deltamethrin + PBO in the roof panel; deltamethrin alone in the side panels) and DawaPlus 4.0 (deltamethrin + PBO in all panels), were evaluated in an experimental hut trial in a rice growing irrigated area in Burkina Faso. Efficacy of nets was tested against free-flying malaria vector, Anopheles gambiae s.l., with high pyrethroid resistance involving L1014F kdr and CYP6P3P450 resistance mechanisms., Methodology: The efficacy of unwashed and 20-times washed DawaPlus 3.0 (polyethylene roof panel with 120 mg/m2 deltamethrin and 440 mg/m2 PBO; polyester side panels with deltamethrin 100 mg/m2) and DawaPlus 4.0 (same composition as roof of DawaPlus 3.0) was evaluated against DawaPlus 2.0 (80 mg/m2 deltamethrin; positive control). Volunteer sleepers and treatments were rotated in huts using a Latin square design on 63 consecutive nights during August-October 2016. Mortality, human blood-feeding inhibition, deterrence and exit rates of An. gambiae s.l. were monitored., Principal Findings: Significantly higher rates of mortality and blood-feeding inhibition were observed with unwashed DawaPlus 4.0 (36%; 47.5%) than unwashed DawaPlus 3.0 (11.8%; 33.3%), DawaPlus 2.0 (4.3%; 6.4%) or untreated net (P < 0.05). Washing reduced personal protective efficacy yet PBO-LLINs were more protective and both met the WHO criteria., Conclusions: The PBO-containing DawaPlus 4.0 significantly protected against An. gambiae s.l. in the study area. Unwashed DawaPlus 3.0 gave low to moderate protection against the positive control. In this work, nickel ferrite (NiFe 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles were synthesized by dextrin from corn-mediated sol-gel combustion method and were annealed at 600, 800, and 1000 °C. The structural and physical characteristics of prepared nanoparticles were studied in detail. The average crystallite size was 20.6, 34.5, and 68.6 nm for NiFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles annealed at 600 °C (NFD@600), 800 °C (NFD@800), and 1000 °C (NFD@1000), respectively. The electromagnetic interference shielding performance of prepared nanocomposites of NiFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (NFD@600 or NFD@800 or NFD@1000) in polypropylene (PP) matrix engineered with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) have been investigated; the results indicated that the prepared nanocomposites consisted of smaller-sized nickel ferrite nanoparticles exhibited excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding characteristics. The total EMI shielding effectiveness (SE T ) for the prepared nanocomposites have been noticed to be 45.56, 36.43, and 35.71 dB for NFD@600-rGO-PP, NFD@800-rGO-PP, and NFD@1000-rGO-PP nanocomposites, respectively, at the thickness of 2 mm in microwave X-band range (8.2-12.4 GHz). The evaluated values of specific EMI shielding effectiveness (SSE) were 38.81, 32.79, and 31.73 dB·cm 3 /g, and the absolute EMI shielding effectiveness (SSE/t) values were 388.1, 327.9, and 317.3 dB·cm 2 /g for NFD@600-rGO-PP, NFD@800-rGO-PP, and NFD@1000-rGO-PP, respectively.
