Abstract: A search for the dinucleon decay $pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{+}$ has been performed using $91.6\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{kton}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}\text{yr}$ data from Super-Kamiokande-I. This decay provides a sensitive probe of the $R$-parity-violating parameter ${{\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{112}}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}$. A boosted decision tree analysis found no signal candidates in the data. The expected background was $0.28\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.19$ atmospheric neutrino induced events and the estimated signal detection efficiency was $12.6%\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3.2%$. A lower limit of $1.7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{32}\text{ }\text{ }\text{years}$ has been placed on the partial lifetime of the decay $^{16}\mathrm{O}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{14}\mathrm{C}{K}^{+}{K}^{+}$ at 90% C.L. A corresponding upper limit of $7.8\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}9}$ has been placed on the parameter ${{\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{112}}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}$.

Abstract: The MTV-G (MTV-Gravity) experiment is aiming to detect a strong gravitational field at around nuclear scale, utilizing an electron polarimeter of the MTV (Mott Polarimetry for T-Violation) experiment [1], which is searching a large T-Violating electron transverse polarization emitted in polarized Li-8 beta decay. The MTV experiment is running at TRIUMF-ISAC since 2009, yielding the highest precision test of T-Violation. The extreme sensitivity of the MTV polarimeter gives us an opportunity to perform a new type of gravity experiment. A modification of gravitational inverse square law at a microscopic scale is predicted by a large extra-dimension model in order to explain the hierarchy problem. The strong gravitational field can be detected as a large spin precession of electrons scattered from nuclei, caused by the “Geodetic precession” as a result of a warped space-time around the nuclear mass. In this experiment, longitudinal polarization of electrons emitted from a 90 Sr source is transferred into a transverse polarization via electromagnetic Thomas precession and possibly via the Geodetic precession.

Abstract: th , 2013) The MTV (Mott polarimetry for T-Violation) experiment is running from 2009 at TRIUMF, which aims to search a large non-standard T-Violation in polarized nuclear beta decay. Existence of a large transverse polarization of electrons emitted from polarized Li-8 nuclei, which are produced at TRIUMF-ISAC and stopped inside an aluminum stopper, is investigated. We utilize a Mott polarimeter consists of a CDC (Cylindrical Drift Chamber), measuring backward scattering left-right asymmetry from a thin lead analyzer foil. In this paper, results from the final performance test run using CDC performed in 2012 are described.

Abstract: The MTV-G project was started in 2011 to explore a strong gravitational field at a nuclear scale in an electron double scattering experiment, utilizing an experimental technique of the MTV experiment, which searches a electron’s T-Violating transverse polarization in nuclear beta decay at TRIUMF-ISAC. In addition to this new experiment, we have also performed a re-analysis of spectroscopic data of exotic atoms, in a gravitational point of view. From these two studies, we set new constraints on possible new Yukawa interaction at sub-mm scale, as a test of gravitational inverse square law.

Abstract: Motivated by a search for a new physics beyond the standard model, the MTV experiment (Mott Polarimetry for T-Violation Experiment) is intended to achieve the highest precision test of time-reversal symmetry in polarized nuclear beta decay by measuring a triple correlation (the R -correlation). The first physics run of the MTV experiment was performed in 2010 at TRIUMF-ISAC. This paper gives preliminary results and describes the next generation setup, which involves a cylindrical drift chamber.

We search for fast oscillations driven by an eV2-scale mass splitting and for oscillations into sterile neutrinos instead of tau neutrinos at the atmospheric mass splitting. When performing both of these searches we assume that the sterile mass splitting is large, allowing sin2(Δm2L/4E) to be approximated as 0.5, and we assume that there is no mixing between electron neutrinos and sterile neutrinos (|Ue4|2=0). No evidence of sterile oscillations is seen and we limit |Uμ4|2 to less than 0.041 and |Uτ4|2 to less than 0.18 for Δm2>0.1eV2 at the 90% C.L. in a 3+1 framework. The approximations that can be made with atmospheric neutrinos allow these limits to be easily applied to 3+N models, and we provide our results in a generic format to allow comparisons with other sterile neutrino models, The authors gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of the Kamioka Mining and Smelting Company. Abstract: The KEK to Kamioka long-baseline neutrino experiment (K2K) has begun its investigation of neutrino oscillations suggested by atmospheric neutrino observations. Twenty-eight neutrino events have been detected in coincidence with the expected arrival time of the beam in the 22.5 kt fiducial volume of Super--Kamiokande, the far detector at 250 km distance. The expectation is 37.8+3.5-3.8, derived using measurements of neutrino interactions in a near detector and extrapolation using a beam simulation validated by a measurement of pion kinematics after production and focusing. Abstract: Solar neutrino measurements from 1258days of data from the Super-Kamiokande detector are presented. The measurements are based on recoil electrons in the energy range 5.0{endash}20.0MeV. The measured solar neutrino flux is 2.32{+-}0.03(stat){sup +0.08}{sub {minus}0.07}(syst){times}10{sup 6} cm{sup {minus}2}s{sup {minus}1} , which is 45.1{+-}0.5(stat ){sup +1.6}{sub {minus}1.4}(syst) % of that predicted by the BP2000 SSM. The day vs night flux asymmetry ({Phi}{sub n}{minus}{Phi}{sub d})/ {Phi}{sub average} is 0.033{+-}0.022(stat){sup +0.013}{sub {minus}0.012}(syst) . The recoil electron energy spectrum is consistent with no spectral distortion. For the hep neutrino flux, we set a 90% C.L.upper limit of 40{times}10{sup 3} cm{sup {minus}2}s{sup {minus}1} , which is 4.3times the BP2000 SSM prediction.

Abstract: We report the result of a search for neutrino oscillations using precise measurements of the recoil electron energy spectrum and zenith angle variations of the solar neutrino flux from 1258 days of neutrino-electron scattering data in Super-Kamiokande. The absence of significant zenith angle variation and spectrum distortion places strong constraints on neutrino mixing and mass difference in a flux-independent way. Abstract: The expression of platelet–endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1) on lymphatic and blood vessels of the human tongue was examined with fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The study used anti-desmoplakins antiserum for light microscopic identification of the lymphatic vessels, plus a pre-embedding immunogold electron microscopic technique for TEM observations. Before making TEM observations, cryostat serial sections were immunostained with anti-desmoplakins or anti-PECAM-1 and then embedded. Semithin sections from each cryostat section were photographed under a light microscope and compared in order to identify the lymphatic vessels expressing PECAM-1. In fluorescence microscopy, PECAM-1 expression on lymphatic vessels was weaker than that on blood vessels. TEM observations showed that PECAM-1 expression on the blood vessels was observed only on the luminal surface of the endothelium. In lymphatic vessels, PECAM-1 expression was found both on the luminal and abluminal surfaces of the endothelium. The density ofthe PECAM-1 reaction products was lower in lymphatic vessels than in blood vessels. The density of PECAM-1 reaction products on the luminal surface of lymphatic vessels was higher than on the abluminal surfaces. The results suggest that blood vessels are more active than lymphatic vessels in leukocyte migration. The expression of PECAM-1 on the abluminal surface of lymphatic endothelium may allow leukocytes to adhere to the endothelium and interact in their migration from tissue into lymphatic vessels.

Abstract: Atmospheric neutrinos arise from the decay of secondaries (π, K and μ) produced by primary cosmic-ray interactions in the atmosphere. In the energy range below 1GeV, where all secondaries decay, we roughly expect that (v μ + v μ )/(v e + v e ) ≃2. This is because a π-decay produces a v μ and a μ; the μ, when it decays, produces another v μ and a v e . These neutrinos enter into the detector from all directions nearly isotropically. The path length of the neutrinos (from the production point to the detector) ranges from a few km to 13000km, the diameter of the earth. In this article we describe recent measurements of atmospheric neutrinos by large underground detectors. Some of the experiments have observed that the (v μ + v μ )/(v e + v e ) ratio is significantly smaller than expected. The interpretation of these interesting results, the future prospect on atmospheric neutrinos and related neutrino physics are also described. In most parts of this article, when mention is made of neutrinos, we imply both neutrinos and antineutrinos.

Abstract: The previously published atmospheric neutrino data did not distinguish whether muon neutrinos were oscillating into tau neutrinos or sterile neutrinos, as both hypotheses fit the data. Using data recorded in 1100 live-days of the Super-Kamiokande detector, we use three complementary data samples to study the difference in zenith angle distribution due to neutral currents and matter effects. We find no evidence favoring sterile neutrinos, and reject the hypothesis at the 99% confidence level. Abstract: We present results of a search for proton decays, $p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}{K}^{+}$, using data from a $33\mathrm{kt}\ifmmode \dot{}\else \.{}\fi{}\mathrm{yr}$ exposure of the Super-Kamiokande detector. Two decay modes of the kaon, ${K}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ and ${K}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$, were studied. The data were consistent with the background expected from atmospheric neutrinos; therefore a lower limit on the partial lifetime of the proton $\ensuremath{\tau}/B(p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}{K}^{+})$ was found to be $6.7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{32}\mathrm{years}$ at $90%$ confidence level.

Abstract: A total of 614 upward through-going muons of minimum energy 1.6 GeV are observed by Super-Kamiokande during 537 detector live days. The measured muon flux is 1.74+/-0.07(stat.)+/-0.02(sys.)x10^{-13}cm^{-2}s^{-1}sr^{-1} compared to an expected flux of 1.97+/-0.44(theo.)x10^{-13}cm^{-2}s^{-1}sr^{-1}. The absolute measured flux is in agreement with the prediction within the errors. However, the zenith angle dependence of the observed upward through-going muon flux does not agree with no-oscillation predictions. The observed distortion in shape is consistent with the \nu_\mu \nu_\tau oscillation hypothesis with \sin^22\theta > 0.4 and 1x10^{-3} < \Delta m^2 < 1x10^{-1} eV^{2} at 90% confidence level., Comment: 8 pages w/ 3 figures new version contains minor fixes, as it appears in PRL

Abstract: A measurement of the energy spectrum of recoil electrons from solar neutrino scattering in the Super--Kamiokande detector is presented. The results shown here are obtained from 504 days of data taken between the 31st of May, 1996 and the 25th of March, 1998. The shape of the measured spectrum is compared with the expectation for solar B8 neutrinos. The comparison takes into account both kinematic and detector related effects in the measurement process. The spectral shape comparison between the observation and the expectation gives a chi-square of 25.3 with 15 degrees of freedom, corresponding to a 4.6% confidence level., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

Three different types of lymphatic vessels were distinguished: type I vessels expressed intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), platelet-endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), and endothelial cell-selectin (ELAM-1); type II vessels expressed ICAM-1 and PECAM-1; and type III vessels expressed PECAM-1 only. The lymphatic vessels located very close to the oral epithelium (lymphatic capillaries) and the other lymphatic vessels near the oral epithelium were type I. The lymphatic vessels in the submucosal connective tissue (collecting lymphatic vessels) were type II and type III. The results suggest that there may be functional differences in the lymphatic endothelium, where lymphatic capillaries are more active than collecting lymphatic vessels in lymphocyte migration from tissue into the lymphatic vessels.

Abstract: We have searched for proton decay via $p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ using data from a $25.5\mathrm{kton}\ifmmode \dot{}\else \.{}\fi{}\mathrm{yr}$ exposure of the Super-Kamiokande detector. We find no candidate events with an expected background induced by atmospheric neutrinos of 0.1 events. From these data, we set a lower limit on the partial lifetime of the proton $\ensuremath{\tau}{/B}_{p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}}$ to be $1.6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{33}\mathrm{years}$ at a 90% confidence level.

Abstract: The first results of the solar neutrino flux measurement from Super-Kamiokande are presented. The results shown here are obtained from data taken between the 31st of May, 1996, and the 23rd of June, 1997. Using our measurement of recoil electrons with energies above 6.5 MeV, we infer the total flux of 8B solar neutrinos to be 2.42+-0.06(stat.)+0.10-0.07(syst.)*10^6/cm^2/s. This result is consistent with the Kamiokande measurement and is 36% of the flux predicted by the BP95 solar model. The flux is also measured in 1.5 month subsets and shown to be consistent with a constant rate., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: From an exposure of 25.5~kiloton-years of the Super-Kamiokande detector, 900 muon-like and 983 electron-like single-ring atmospheric neutrino interactions were detected with momentum $p_e > 100$ MeV/$c$, $p_\mu > 200$ MeV/$c$, and with visible energy less than 1.33 GeV. Using a detailed Monte Carlo simulation, the ratio $(\mu/e)_{DATA}/(\mu/e)_{MC}$ was measured to be $0.61 \pm 0.03(stat.) \pm 0.05(sys.)$, consistent with previous results from the Kamiokande, IMB and Soudan-2 experiments, and smaller than expected from theoretical models of atmospheric neutrino production.

Abstract: We present an analysis of atmospheric neutrino data from a 33.0 kiloton-year (535-day) exposure of the Super-Kamiokande detector. The data exhibit a zenith angle dependent deficit of muon neutrinos which is inconsistent with expectations based on calculations of the atmospheric neutrino flux. Experimental biases and uncertainties in the prediction of neutrino fluxes and cross sections are unable to explain our observation. The data are consistent, however, with two-flavor nu_mu nu_tau oscillations with sin^2(2theta)>0.82 and 5x10^-4 < delta m^2 < 6x10^-3 eV^2 at 90% confidence level., Comment: 9 pages (two-column) with 4 figures. Abstract: The large-scale anisotropy of cosmic-ray primaries in the celestial coordinate was studied using cosmic-ray muons recorded in a large water Cherenkov detector, Kamiokande. The right-ascension distribution of the muon arrival directions deviated from an isotropic distribution with a 2.8 standard deviation, and agreed well with the first harmonics with an amplitude of $(5.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.9)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ and a phase of $8.0\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}19.1\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$. This is the deepest underground observation of the large-scale anisotropy of cosmic rays, and agrees with observations with other underground experiments and extensive air-shower array experiments.

Abstract: We present the results of searches for nucleon decay via n→ν[over ¯]π0 and p→ν[over ¯]π+ using data from a combined 172.8 kt·yr exposure of Super-Kamiokande-I,-II, and-III. We set lower limits on the partial lifetime for each of these modes: τn→ν[over ¯]π01.1×10(33) years and τp→ν[over ¯]π+3.9×10(32) years at a 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report an indication that the elastic scattering rate of solar $^8$B neutrinos with electrons in the Super-Kamiokande detector is larger when the neutrinos pass through the Earth during nighttime. We determine the day/night asymmetry, defined as the difference of the average day rate and average night rate divided by the average of those two rates, to be $(-3.2\pm1.1(\text{stat})\pm0.5(\text{syst}))\%$, which deviates from zero by 2.7 $\sigma$. Since the elastic scattering process is mostly sensitive to electron-flavored solar neutrinos, a non-zero day/night asymmetry implies that the flavor oscillations of solar neutrinos are affected by the presence of matter within the neutrinos' flight path. Super-Kamiokande's day/night asymmetry is consistent with neutrino oscillations for $4\times10^{-5}$eV$^2\leq\Delta m^2_{21}\leq7\times10^{-5}$eV$^2$ and large mixing values of $\theta_{12}$, at the $68\%$ C.L., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Procedures and results on hardware level detector calibration in Super-Kamiokande (SK) are presented in this paper. In particular, we report improvements made in our calibration methods for the experimental phase IV in which new readout electronics have been operating since 2008. The topics are separated into two parts. The first part describes the determination of constants needed to interpret the digitized output of our electronics so that we can obtain physical numbers such as photon counts and their arrival times for each photomultiplier tube (PMT). In this context, we developed an in-situ procedure to determine high-voltage settings for PMTs in large detectors like SK, as well as a new method for measuring PMT quantum efficiency and gain in such a detector. The second part describes the modeling of the detector in our Monte Carlo simulation, including in particular the optical properties of its water target and their variability over time. Detailed studies on the water quality are also presented. As a result of this work, we achieved a precision sufficient for physics analysis over a wide energy range (from a few MeV to above a TeV). For example, the charge determination was understood at the 1% level, and the timing resolution was 2.1 nsec at the one-photoelectron charge level and 0.5 nsec at the 100-photoelectron charge level., Comment: 75 pages, 35 figures

Abstract: We carried out an experimental test of various characteristics of a water Cerenkov detector, especially the particle identification capability, using the 12-GeV proton synchrotron at KEK, Japan. The detector characteristics so far studied are well reproduced by the Monte Carlo simulation. Especially it is able to identify electrons and muons with mis-identification probabilities less than a few percent in the momentum range of 250–1000 MeV/c except the particle positions in the extreme edge of the detector volume. Based on the present results, the deficiency of μ-neutrinos in the atmospheric neutrinos is not an artifact caused by some peculiar detector characteristics.

Abstract: Lipoprotein-a, Lp(a), is a variant form of low density lipoprotein (LDL) that contains apolipoprotein-a, whose structure has 75-85% homology with plasminogen. Elevated plasma levels of Lp(a) are considered to be one of the independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease. We studied the effects of niceritrol, a nicotinic acid derivative, on plasma Lp(a) levels in 72 patients with hypercholesterolaemia. The dose of niceritrol was increased every 4 weeks, from 750 to 1500 and then to 2250 mg day-1. The final dose was adjusted to obtain a plasma cholesterol level less than 5.69 mmol l-1. Niceritrol led to significant decreases in plasma levels of median Lp(a), from 16.1 mg dl-1 (interquartile intervals, 8.7 to 32.8) to 11.1 mg dl-1 (interquartile intervals, 6.6 to 21), the mean reduction rate being 17.6%. In the group with pretreatment Lp(a) levels of over 20 mg dl-1, Lp(a) decreased by 10.0, 22.0 and 31.8% at the doses of 750, 1500, and 2250 mg day-1, respectively. In the group with levels less than 20 mg dl-1, only the dose of 2250 mg day-1 was effective in the reduction of Lp(a). The results suggest that the reduction of Lp(a) was dependent on the dose of niceritrol and on the pretreatment level of Lp(a). In conclusion, niceritrol is effective, in a dose-dependent manner, for reducing Lp(a) levels.

Abstract: We have searched for proton into muon plus neutral kaon using data from a 91.7 kiloton-year exposure of Super-Kamiokande-I, a 49.2 kiloton-year exposure of Super-Kamiokande-II, and a 31.9 kiloton-year exposure of Super-Kamiokande-III. The number of candidate events in the data was consistent with the atmospheric neutrino background expectation and no evidence for proton decay in this mode was found. We set a partial lifetime lower limit of 1.6x10^33 years at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Searches for a nucleon decay into a charged anti-lepton (e^+ or {\mu}^+) plus a light meson ({\pi}^0, {\pi}^-, {\eta}, {\rho}^0, {\rho}^-, {\omega}) were performed using the Super-Kamiokande I and II data. Twelve nucleon decay modes were searched for. The total exposure is 140.9 kiloton \cdot years, which includes a 91.7 kiloton \cdot year exposure (1489.2 live days) of Super-Kamiokande-I and a 49.2 kiloton \cdot year exposure (798.6 live days) of Super-Kamiokande-II. The number of candidate events in the data was consistent with the atmospheric neutrino background expectation. No significant evidence for a nucleon decay was observed in the data. Thus, lower limits on the nucleon partial lifetime at 90% confidence level were obtained. The limits range from 3.6 \times 10^31 to 8.2 \times 10^33 years, depending on the decay modes., Comment: 25 pages, 18 figures

Abstract: Artículo escrito por un elevado número de autores, solo se referencian el que aparece en primer lugar, el nombre del grupo de colaboración, si le hubiere, y los autores pertenecientes a la UAM, A new Super-Kamiokande search for supernova relic neutrinos was conducted using 2853 live days of data. Sensitivity is now greatly improved compared to the 2003 Super-Kamiokande result, which placed a flux limit near many theoretical predictions. This more detailed analysis includes a variety of improvements such as increased efficiency, a lower energy threshold, and an expanded data set. New combined upper limits on supernova relic neutrino flux are between 2.8 and 3.1ν̄e cm-2 s-1 > 16 MeV total positron energy (17.3 MeV Eν), The Super-Kamiokande experiment has been built and operated from funding by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the United States Department of Energy, and the U.S. National Science Foundation. Abstract: We report a measurement of muon-neutrino disappearance in the T2K experiment. The 295-km muon-neutrino beam from Tokai to Kamioka is the first implementation of the off-axis technique in a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. With data corresponding to 1.43 × 10(20) protons on target, we observe 31 fully-contained single μ-like ring events in Super-Kamiokande, compared with an expectation of 104 ± 14(syst) events without neutrino oscillations. The best-fit point for two-flavor νμ → ντ oscillations is sin 2(2θ(23)) = 0.98 and |Δm(2)(32)| = 2.65 × 10(−3) eV2. The boundary of the 90% confidence region includes the points (sin2 (2θ(23)), |Δm(2)(32)|) = (1.0, 3.1 × 10(−3) eV2), (0.84, 2.65 × 10(−3) eV2) and (1.0, 2.2 × 10(−3) eV2)., Physical Review D, 85 (3), ISSN:1550-7998, ISSN:0556-2821, ISSN:1550-2368

Abstract: Data from the Kamiokande detector were used to study the atmospheric (v μ + v μ ) (v e + v e ) ratio in the multi-GeV energy range. The observed ratio of μ-like to e-like events relative to the calculated ratio, ( μ /e) data /( μ /e) MC = 0.57 -0.07 +0.08 ± 0.07, suggests that the atmospheric (v μ + v μ ) (v e + v e ) ratio is smaller than expected for these neutrino energies. Also studied was the zenith-angle dependence of the above ratio. Results of an analysis of neutrino oscillations are presented.

Abstract: In this paper we study non-standard neutrino interactions as an example of physics beyond the standard model using atmospheric neutrino data collected during the Super-Kamiokande I(1996-2001) and II(2003-2005) periods. We focus on flavor-changing-neutral-currents (FCNC), which allow neutrino flavor transitions via neutral current interactions, and effects which violate lepton non-universality (NU) and give rise to different neutral-current interaction-amplitudes for different neutrino flavors. We obtain a limit on the FCNC coupling parameter, varepsilon_{mu tau}, |varepsilon_{mu tau}, 12 Pages, 14 figures. To be submitted to Phys. Rev. D

Abstract: Artículo escrito por un elevado número de autores, solo se referencian el que aparece en primer lugar, el nombre del grupo de colaboración, si le hubiere, y los autores pertenecientes a la UAM, The results of the third phase of the Super-Kamiokande solar neutrino measurement are presented and compared to the first and second phase results. With improved detector calibrations, a full detector simulation, and improved analysis methods, the systematic uncertainty on the total neutrino flux is estimated to be ± 2.1%, which is about two thirds of the systematic uncertainty for the first phase of Super-Kamiokande. The observed 8B solar flux in the 5.0 to 20 MeV total electron energy region is 2.32 ± 0.04 (stat.) ± 0.05 (sys.) x 10^6 cm^-2sec^-1, under the assumption of pure electron-flavor content, in agreement with previous measurements. A combined oscillation analysis is carried out using SK-I, II, and III data, and the results are also combined with the results of other solar neutrino experiments. The best-fit oscillation parameters are obtained to be sin^2 {\theta}12 = 0.30+0.02-0.01(tan^2 {\theta}12 = 0.42+0.04 -0.02) and {\Delta}m2_21 = 6.2+1.1-1.9 *10^-5eV^2. Combined with KamLAND results, the best-fit oscillation parameters are found to be sin^2 {\theta}12 = 0.31±0.01 (tan^2 {\theta}12 = 0.44±0.03) and {\Delta}m2_21 = 7.6 ± 0.2 x 10^-5 eV^2. The 8B neutrino flux obtained from global solar neutrino experiments is 5.3 ± 0.2 (stat + sys) x 10^6cm^-2s^-1, while the 8B flux becomes 5.1 ± 0.1 (stat +sys ) x 10^6cm^-2s^-1 by adding KamLAND result. In a three-flavor analysis combining all solar neutrino experiments, the upper limit of sin^2 {\theta}13 is 0.060 at 95% C.L.. After combination with KamLAND results, the upper limit of sin^2 {\theta}13 is found to be 0.059 at 95% C.L., The authors gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of the Kamioka Mining and Smelting Company. Abstract: In this paper we report on the measurement of the rate of inclusive $\pi^0$ production induced by charged-current neutrino interactions in a C$_8$H$_8$ target at a mean energy of 1.3 GeV in the K2K near detector. Out of a sample of 11,606 charged current neutrino interactions, we select 479 $\pi^0$ events with two reconstructed photons. We find that the cross section for the inclusive $\pi^0$ production relative to the charged-current quasi-elastic cross section is $$\frac{\sigma_{CC\pi^0}}{\sigma_{CCQE}}=0.426\pm0.032(stat.)\pm0.035(syst.)$$ The energy dependent cross section ratio is also measured. Under a two-flavor disappearance model with separate mixing parameters between neutrinos and antineutrinos, we find no evidence for a difference in oscillation parameters. Best-fit antineutrino mixing is found to be at (Δm̄2,sin22θ̄)=(2.0×10−3 eV2,1.0) and is consistent with the overall Super-K measurement, We gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of the Kamioka Mining and Smelting Company. Abstract: The T2K experiment is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Its main goal is to measure the last unknown lepton sector mixing angle {\theta}_{13} by observing {\nu}_e appearance in a {\nu}_{\mu} beam. It also aims to make a precision measurement of the known oscillation parameters, {\Delta}m^{2}_{23} and sin^{2} 2{\theta}_{23}, via {\nu}_{\mu} disappearance studies. Other goals of the experiment include various neutrino cross section measurements and sterile neutrino searches. The experiment uses an intense proton beam generated by the J-PARC accelerator in Tokai, Japan, and is composed of a neutrino beamline, a near detector complex (ND280), and a far detector (Super-Kamiokande) located 295 km away from J-PARC. Abstract: A search was made for anomalous γ-rays in the energy range 19 and 50 MeV in the large underground water Cherenkov detector Kamiokande. We found no significant excess above the known backgrounds. The result was used to set a limit on invisible nucleon decay through n→ν μ ν μ ν μ , n→ν e ν e ν e and n→ν τ ν τ ν τ . A lower limit on the partial life time τB is given by τB/Br(γ)=1.8×1031 yr(90% CL), where Br(γ)=Γγ/Γtot is the branching fraction of the γ-decay to the particle emission of the deexcitation of 15O∗. The life time limit becomes τB=4.9×1026 yr(90% CL) for a conservative estimate of Br(γ)=2.7×10−5 assuming a nuclear single particle model. Abstract: Recent results on atmospheric neutrinos are reviewed. The two water-Cerenkov experiments have seen the ratio (ν μ + ν μ ) (ν ϵ + ν ϵ ) significantly smaller than expected in the visible-energy range of 0.2 ∼ 1.5 GeV. Three experiments have reported the results on upward-going muons which are produced by atmospheric ( ν μ + ν μ ) with energies larger than about 10 GeV. They compared the observed flux of upward-going muons with calculation and found food agreement. The theoretical calculation, however, must be improved to quantitatively compare the flux.

Abstract: We present a search for non-zero theta_{13} and deviations of sin^2 theta_{23} from 0.5 in the oscillations of atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande -I, -II, and -III. No distortions of the neutrino flux consistent with non-zero theta_{13} are found and both neutrino mass hierarchy hypotheses are in agreement with the data. The data are best fit at Delta m^2 = 2.1 x 10^-3 eV^2, sin^2 theta_{13} = 0.0, and sin^2 theta_{23} =0.5. In the normal (inverted) hierarchy theta_{13} and Delta m^2 are constrained at the one-dimensional 90% C.L. to sin^2 theta_{13} < 0.04 (0.09) and 1.9 (1.7) x 10^-3 < Delta m^2 < 2.6 (2.7) x 10^-3 eV^2. Abstract: We have searched for possible high-energy neutrino signals expected from massive neutrino dark matter captured by the earth and the sun, by making use of upward-going muon samples collected in the seven years of operation of the Kamiokande detector. No excess of events was found from the earth or the sun, thus giving an excluded mass range of Dirac-(Majorana-) type neutrinos, 6 (24) ⩽ m ν ⩽ several hundred GeV, as the dark matter which consitutes the halo of the galaxy. The upper bounds extend to a mass range never before analyzed in previous indirect searches.

Abstract: Results are presented of the observation of atmospheric neutrino interactions in the Kamiokande detector in an exposure of 4.92 kt yr. The observed ratio of single ring μ-events to e-events ( μ e ) data ( μ e ) MC = 0.60 +007 −0.06 ( stat. ) ± 0.05 ( syst. ) suggests that the atmospheric vμ/ve ratio is smaller than expected. The implications of these results for neutrino oscillations are discussed.
