This study analyzed the relationship between work and health of COVID-19 frontline healthcare workers. 108 professionals from the state of Paraíba participated through a questionnaire aimed at characterizing the health, organization and working conditions, and the access to training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of these professionals. The results, analyzed through the lens of the Activity Clinic, indicate that the workers experienced unsatisfactory working conditions and a work organization that did not prioritize mental health nor offered enough courses and training to act with COVID-19. In addition, there was little social recognition, low remuneration of these professionals and problems in the management of the pandemic by the government and health institutions, which negatively impacted the work activity of these workers. This article aims to reflect on the methodological strategies of a research-intervention, with emphasis on the relations between health and work, developed together with women workers from a public elementary school, located in a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The investigative course is structured in two steps: i) conversations about the work and observations of work activities; and ii) Meetings about the Work, initially, by professional segment and, later, with the expanded group. The perspective was the construction of a continuous and permanent observatory on the connections between health and work, stimulated by an expanded community of research-intervention - ECRI (or CAPI, in Portuguese). The main focus of the present analysis is the potential of the methodological strategies used, as well as the obstacles faced. The transformations introduced by the processes concerning research-intervention opened a permanent field of daily negotiation, committed to better living, health and working conditions. This study aimed to analyze, based on the Brazilian scientific literature, the current work configurations, as well as to identify which occupational risks and hazards workers have been exposed to and their interface with social protection. It is an integrative literature review developed in SciELO, LILACS and MEDLINE databases. The initial search resulted in 323 articles, and 135 of them were considered suitable for analysis, since they met all the predefined eligibility criteria. The results showed that the changes in work configurations reflect the increase in workers’ exposure to occupational risks and hazards, which happens at the same time as a systematic dismantling of social protection in Brazil. In conclusion, there is a scenario of progressive repression of labor rights, lack of social protection and precarization of labor.

- Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has imposed exceptional demands and pressures on healthcare systems around the world and, in particular, on healthcare professionals, including nurses. Given this new global scenario, it is essential to know the conditions that most contribute to the emergence of Burnout Syndrome in nursing professionals, alerting to the risks of this disease and the need to implement preventive and corrective measures in hospital services, as a way to prevent the increase in the incidence of this phenomenon. The method adopted was a quantitative descriptive study, with 27 nursing workers from a private hospital in the west of the state of Paraná during the Covid-19 pandemic. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was used, with the addition of the Maslach Burnout Inventory instrument. Data structuring and analysis were performed using the Excel program. The results indicated that nurses who worked on the front lines during the Covid-19 pandemic have a high prevalence of Burnout Syndrome, for each dimension of burnout, most professionals showed high levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and decreased personal fulfillment. Factors such as the lack of infrastructure and security, excessive working hours and social isolation are related to this diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This article presents an experience of a participative approach prior to the implementation of NR-36, which regulates work in meat and meat byproduct companies. Although the regulations provide for worker participation in the processes of implementing job rotation, they do not explain how to do it. This study was developed in 2017 in the livestock slaughtering sector of a company with 79 workers, using two complementary methods: systematic and analytical observation of the real work (totaling 32 hours of observation) in order to select the jobs that were primarily eligible for rotation, together with a survey of the workers' perception of the level of acceptance of rotation in the selected jobs. At first, 72% of the workers refused to accept the rotation. After inclusion and participation in the implementation process, 86% of the workers in the dirty area and 64% in the clean area agreed to the rotation. The advantages of rotation that most stood out included: the variability in work (30%), learning and gaining experience (40%), changes in movements (35%), and physical rest (32%). By contrast, the disadvantages included: the fear of accidents (30%) and the fear of change and of the unknown (25%). It can therefore be concluded that the participatory approach prior to changes in organizational design contributes to the understanding and perception of workers about the advantages and disadvantages of the rotation process, indicating improvements that comply with legal requirements.

Introduction. Contemporary occupational diseases are increasingly expressed by function disorders, which include voice disorders, forcing workers to request a leave of absence from work and leading to an incapacity to perform their work activities. Teachers have the higher prevalence of vocal disorders among the professionals who use their voices professionally, which is reported as the second cause of teaching work absences in Brazil. Objective. To analyze the environment and organization aspects of the teaching work associated with the development of voice disorder of teachers, according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Method. This study consisted of two steps. Initially, an integrative bibliographic review was performed to search for references related to the topic in the LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO databases, using the health descriptors "voice disorders" and "teachers". Then, the selected articles were read in full in order to identify the work factors associated with the voice disorder and compared with the theoretical framework of the ICF, in order to identify possible indicators of loss of functioning and capacity for teaching work resulting from voice disorders. Results. The presence of dust and noise were the most prevalent environment aspects. In turn, the high demand for work and the lack of autonomy to perform the work were identified as factors related to the organization of the work of the teaching work, as well as stress at work and the presence of situations of violence at school as the most reported work absences. Conclusion. As shown, the factors of teaching work described impact all components of functioning and lead to the incapacity of the teacher to work. The use of the ICF may contribute to systematize and quantify, in a standardized way, the loss of functioning and work capacity resulting from voice disorders, in addition to assisting in the development of public health promotion policies and in the prevention of vocal disorders in teachers.

The ethical climate is the perception of health professionals about the work environment, meaning the reflection on care practices and ethical-related decisions. There are extensive studies in the international literature about the ethical climate, but there are still theoretical gaps about it in health services. In this reflection article, the objective was to explore conceptual components about the ethical climate, proposing new elements of analysis of the construct. The starting point was the accumulated knowledge itself, the possibilities for expansion, and the conceptual progress emerging from contributions from studies on nursing ethics. It was understandable that the ethical climate is considered in its procedural model and cyclically, being articulated with organizational elements, as established in the literature, and, expanding the concept, with the worker's health and the ethical expressiveness at work. Regarding this last contribution, the suggestion is to think about the potential for work to allow, limit, or favor professionals to express their ethical and esthetic values in the most daily decisions and relationships, in care, management, and education. The conceptual framework of this study progressed by addressing the ethical climate as a process articulating several concepts and elements regarding the organizational aspect, ethics, and the workers' well-being. The technological transition underway in sugarcane hydroagricultural in the Administrative Region of Presidente Prudente, as part of the productive restructuring of capital, materializes through intense mechanization of cutting and planting and based on the chemical-dependent model. The impact on workers' and collective health, accidents at work, occupational diseases, and environmental damage, they also reach their sphere of representation, that is, the Rural Workers 'Unions and the Rural Employees' Unions. The territorial reorganization caused by the expansion of sugarcane hydroagricultural has amplified social contradictions in a territory historically marked by land conflicts, which motivates us to establish correlations between the workers' health-illness process, the forms of resistance and the struggles carried out by the STR's and SER's in the context of the class struggle in that territory. Thus, through qualitative and quantitative methodological procedures, we seek to understand how the organization / representation (political, economic and ideological) of workers has been affected in the region and the impacts on labor relations in the cane fields. - Abstract
In South Africa, 15 percent of informal economy workers are street vendors. The organization of occupational health services in the country is fragmented and does not cover informal workers. Conditions of work make informal workers extremely vulnerable to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) exposure. In this study, a qualitative risk assessment was conducted among street vendors, followed by focus group discussions. Interpretation of data was according to major themes extracted from discussions. Workers are exposed to several occupational health hazards identified during the risk assessment. There is a lack of workplace HIV and TB services and overall poor access to healthcare. Street vendors, especially females, are at higher risk of HIV, due to gender inequalities. Comprehensive gender-sensitive training on occupational health and safety, HIV, and TB should be prioritized. To reach Universal Health Coverage and achieve the Sustainable Developmental Goals' targets, the health system should improve services for informal economy workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a clinical condition and a relevant risk factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases; it occurs as a result of lifestyle factors, e.g., work. The aim of this research was to estimate the interaction between work and MS among primary health care (PHC) nursing professionals in the state of Bahia, Brazil. A sectional multicentered study carried out in 43 municipalities in Bahia, whose study population consisted of nursing professionals. The exposure variables were occupation, professional exhaustion, and working time, and the outcome variable was MS. Interaction measures based on the additivity criteria were verified by calculating the excess risks due to the interactions and according to the proportion of cases attributed to the interactions and the synergy index. The global MS prevalence is 24.4%. There was a greater magnitude in the exposure group regarding the three investigated factors (average level occupation, professional exhaustion, and working time in PHC for more than 5 years), reaching an occurrence of 44.9% when compared to the prevalence of 13.1% in the non-exposure group (academic education, without professional burnout, and working time in PHC for up to 5 years). The study's findings showed a synergistic interaction of work aspects for MS occurrence among PHC nursing professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID-19 pandemic , *INDUSTRIAL relations , *INDUSTRIAL mobilization , *PUBLIC transit , *INDUSTRIAL workers - Abstract
Objective: To identify social and economic factors that favored the spread of COVID-19 to the industrial regions of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Methods: The research was bibliographic and documentary, in three methodological stages: the social and economic characteristics of the different geographic regions; survey and graphical representation of the number of active cases of COVID-19 generated by the Geoprocessing Laboratory of the University of the State of Santa Catarina; and analysis of the possible relationships on the daily dynamics of the industrial trial population and their compatibility with the mapping as to the number of active cases of COVID-19. Results: The variability in the contact of new strains of COVID-19 has a strong convergence with the tourist mobilizations and urban economic aspects of the industrial worker. For the industrial populations, the coefficients of interrelationships that favor contagion must be considered, such as centralizations, distances, housing and the need for mobility by public transport. Conclusions: The creation of public policies with measures according to local demands, realizing each behavioral profile, is fundamental, since the specific regional approach of the regions can mitigate the contagion of COVID-19. It is suggested the reorganization and mapping the day-to-day connections between locations and distances from the employees' respective homes and their employment relationships. COVID-19 pandemic , *DIGITAL technology , *PANDEMICS - Abstract
This critical essay aims to analyze the potential of health risks imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic on workers inserted in digital platforms of work intermediation (digitrabes), more specifically those who provide their services in person. This hiring generated a loss of rights and worsening working conditions, which did not come about with the pandemic. Still, it certainly intensified the precariousness of these workers, who increased in number during this period. The thesis is that measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 directly and more seriously affected workers working in the provision of essential services, increasing the imbalance between demands and available resources, which required the adoption of protective policies for those who risked their lives to keep society running. Controversies and difficulties in adopting alternative measures to protect workers' health and minimize harmful impacts are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the stress perception among Brazilian physical therapists (PTs) during COVID-19 pandemic and to identify which psychosocial demands, sociodemographic, professional and clinical factors do associate with the PTs' stress perception. This cross-sectional survey was based on a convenience sample of PTs, who answered a questionnaire about: 1) sociodemographic and professional characteristics, 2) clinical characteristics and information related to COVID-19, 3) psychosocial demands, and 4) 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). Full responses were obtained from 417 PTs. The average PSS-10 score was 19.2 (95% CI 18.5 to 19.9), which was higher than in other Brazilians before COVID-19 and figured among the highest one observed in healthcare workers from different countries during COVID-19 pandemic. After multivariate analysis, PTs' perceived stress remained associated with female sex, younger age, previous diagnosis of depressive or anxiety disorder, worsening in sleep patterns, large reduction in family income, housework, relationship with the partner, concern about close people/family members being infected by SARS-CoV-2, and loneliness. Objective: To analyze the scientific productions available in the literature on the incidence of Burnout Syndrome in the professionals of the nursing team. Methods: Integrative literature review conducted in March 2020, in the LILACS, SCIELO, BDENF and PubMed databases. Sample composed of nine articles, after selection based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria previously established. The controlled descriptors of the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS) "Professional Exhaustion", "Nursing Team", "Prevalence" and the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) were used "Burnout Professional", "Nursing Team", " Prevalence ", using the Boolean operator and to perform the research. Results: The Burnout Syndrome among nursing professionals has a high incidence, showing more pronounced values in mobile emergency care services, but with something different, a reality also in the context of primary health care. The profile of the professionals most affected by the syndrome were women, with less training time and shorter time in the unit, double employment, high demands for work with low control and social support. Conclusion: There is a need for organizational restructuring, opening institutional spaces for discussions between managers and nursing professionals, in the direction of developing strategies aimed at promoting workers' health. LUMBAR pain , *POSTURE , *CROSS-sectional method - Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between work-related lumbar posture (sitting, standing, walking, alternating posture) and LBP in workers. Methods: This is a retrospective study comprising 529 records of adult workers from a database of a private company. Predominant work-related lumbar posture was classified based on time spent in each posture. A total of 22 personal, occupational, clinical, and psychosocial covariates were evaluated. LBP symptoms in the last 12 months and during the last 7 days were the outcomes of the study. The multivariate analysis model evaluated the independent relationship between the work-related lumbar posture classification and other potential exposure factors with LBP. Results: The adjusted logistic regression model indicated that predominant walking reduced the likelihood to report LBP during the last 12 months when compared to standing (OR = 0.54; 95% CI 0.30, 0.99; p = 0.048), but there is no association between work-related postures and recent LBP. The adjusted analyses also revealed an association between LBP during the last 12 months and female sex, blue-collar task, frequently feeling tiredness, pain at any other body region previous 12 months, previous LBP, and monotonous work. Recent LBP was associated with female sex, pain at any other body region last 7 days, and previous LBP. Conclusions: Standing posture increases the likelihood to report LBP during the last 12 months when compared to walking. LBP over previous year and during the previous 7 days was associated with personal and clinical factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
To identify the effects of meditation practices and programs on the health of nursing professionals. Integrative review conducted in April 2020 through the search for publications in journals indexed in Scopus, MEDLINE / PubMed, OneFile, Sage Journals and PMC. The hospital environment was the setting for all research (n=10). The interventions applied were mostly (n=7) of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) type, with an average duration of four to eight weeks. Meditation programs had immediate effects on stress relief, burnout risk, increased satisfaction with compassion, personal power, improved quality of life, physical and psychological dimensions, and reduced anxiety and depression traits. The aspects to be considered for the implementation of these programs in hospitals include using traditional meditation techniques, validated, maintaining a continuous character, taught by a qualified professional and encouraging the organization of the professionals' time. SICK leave ,MUNICIPAL services ,DEFINITIONS ,PHYSICIANS - Abstract
For the purpose of analyzing topics linking the health-disease-work process to medical evaluation practices under the scope of the federal public service and their interaction with Worker's Health, this article investigates the issue of determining the duration of the sick leave period that a worker is granted for caring for their own health, within the Subsistema Integrado de Atenção à Saúde do Servidor (SIASS). To that end, the parameters for granting time off work, as provided by the Manual de Perícia Oficial, and the speeches on this topic by the interviewees were analyzed. The importance given to the topic 'days off work' arises from the fact that it is related to the time it takes the worker to recover, which implies fewer days dedicated to being productive. Interviews were conducted with 32 professionals from 5 educational institutions, and this article highlights some analytical categories: days off work; Manual da Perícia and disagreement between medical evaluators and attending physicians. The results point to the usefulness of revising the Manual taking into account Worker's Health, identifying contradictions; the need for shaping an effectively interdisciplinary evaluation, so that the worker's health-related complaints can be handled from the perspective of the worker's care, and not simply concerning control and surveillance. Occupational violence is a problem that health professionals are exposed to daily. This cross-sectional study aimed at identifying the prevalence of violence at work (verbal/physical) and the variables related to it in nursing professionals working in oncology. Physical or verbal aggression was assessed through self-report. The relationship between sociodemographic, psycho -emotional and work-related violence (verbal/physical) variables was analyzed using the Chi -Square, Fisher's Exact, Student T and Mann -Whitney tests. The study sample consisted of 231 nursing professionals. The prevalence of physical or verbal aggression reported in the last year was 61.5%. A higher prevalence of aggression was evidenced in professionals who stated that they were tired at the end of the shift and presented reduced concentration during the shift. It is noteworthy that workers who suffered violence presented high levels of burnout in all subscales, a higher Mean score on the work stress scale and a lower Mean with regards to sleep quality. The findings of this study point to the need for institutional measures to prevent and control occupational violence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUALITY of work life ,NURSING ,COVID-19 pandemic ,JOB satisfaction ,QUANTITATIVE research - Abstract
Objective: to investigate the Quality of Work Life among nursing professionals in a specific inpatient unit for COVID-19 care. Method: descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected through the instrument Total Quality of Work Life-42, whose score ranges from 0 to 100, considering that the highest value represents the best quality of work life score; and a form for social and labor characterization of the participants. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes were applied. Results: the general score for Quality of Work Life was 59.9±7.9. The highest scores were for the Psychological/Behavioral (68.8) and Environmental/Organizational (62.2) spheres; and the lowest scores were for Economic/Political (52.5) and Biological/Physiological (55.7). All spheres had positive correlations when compared to work satisfaction and there was no significance when comparing the sample characteristics with the quality of work life levels. Conclusion: the nursing professionals working at the COVID-19 inpatient unit had a median Quality of Work Life; and work satisfaction was directly related to their evaluation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The safety climate is a measurable element of safety culture. Based on professionals' perceptions, it is possible to know the safety context of an organization. Objective: Assess the safety climate and its relationship to accidents/occupational diseases in a psychosocial care unit. Methodology: Quantitative, inferential study with nursing workers in a psychosocial care unit. A semi-structured questionnaire and the ClimaSeg-H - Escala de Clima de Segurança no Trabalho Hospitalar (Hospital Work Safety Climate Scale) were used. Analysis was carried out using the IBM SPSS Statistics program. Results: As for the safety climate, the domain with the worst evaluation was "Support for work and safety practices". There was an association between the safety climate and the variables accidents/occupational diseases, use of medications, and missed work resulting from work-related accidents/illnesses. Conclusion: There are weaknesses in the safety culture related to work and safety practices support. Having an accident/illness at work, using medications, and/or missing work is associated with the poorest perceptions of the safety climate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NURSES , *HOSPITAL personnel - Abstract
Nurses' perceptions on work overload in hospital units are analyzed. Current qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research was conducted in a university hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with the participation of nurses in clinical and surgical hospitalization services. Data were collected through systematic non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. For data analysis, the thematic content analysis technique was used. Twelve nurses participated. Categories revealed reports on low quality materials, interruptions in work development, consequences resulting from work overload on the health of professionals and their coping strategies. It is important to plan actions that minimize work overload and, thus, preserve and promote nurses health, from the perspective of valorization and support, enabling the provision of comprehensive and quality care. Aim: To analyze the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and associated factors in health professionals from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a University Hospital in Recife-Pernambuco, Brazil, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: exploratory cross-sectional study, carried out at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco - HCPE, located in the city of Recife. The research used two questionnaires, the Self Report Questionnaire - 20 and another that contained sociodemographic, mental health treatment and individual work information. For data analysis, the absolute and relative frequency of the analyzed variables was performed. For the bivariate analysis, we used the estimate of the association between outcomes and independent variables through the chi-square test and their respective prevalence ratios. Results: 91 questionnaires were answered, corresponding to 81.25% of the sample space. The presence of CMD was observed in 57.1% (n = 56) of the professionals, 63.7% (n = 58) reported sleeping poorly, while 64.8% (n = 59) tired easily and 61, 5% (56) reported being tired all the time. Females had a prevalence of 1.84 times more CMD (95%CI = 1.18-2.86; x2 = 0.012). Individuals without a partner had 1.44 times higher prevalence of MCT (CI = 1.01-2.05; x2 = 0.035). Conclusions: This research found a high frequency of mental health problems among workers in the researched ICU, in addition to symptoms related to CMD. These data demonstrate the need to develop actions and strategies to prevent the effects of the pandemic on the physical and mental health of frontline workers from all regions of the country, who are epidemiologically similar. This cross-sectional study investigated the association between self-reported race/skin color and two outcomes - psychosocial demand and physical demand at work - in 1,032 workers in an urban cleaning services company and two footwear manufacturers, located in the State of Bahia, Brazil. Psychosocial demand was measured through the Job Content Questionnaire and physical demand was measured through questions about postures and cargo handling. A Cox regression analysis provided prevalence ratios (PR) adjusted by age, gender, and educational level. Among blacks, there is a higher proportion of garbage collectors and a lower proportion of supervisory positions. Black workers are more subject to high psychological demand and low job control and, consequently, to high strain (PR=1.65). Also, they are more exposed to work with arms above shoulder level (PR=1.93), and material handling (PR=1.62), compared to white workers. Brown workers are more exposed to low job control (PR=1.36), work with arms above shoulder level (PR=1.48), and material handling (PR=1.25), also compared with whites. Social support is lower among blacks and brown. The study demonstrated inequities in psychosocial and physical exposures at work that are in line with the structural conception of racism. This evidence can contribute to the adoption of practices that increase equity in the world of work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract The objectives of this study were to identify the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) and the predictive power of occupational stressors for its dimensions - Enthusiasm toward the job (inverse), Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence and Guilt. This study assessed a random sample of 538 public servants from a State Court of Justice (RS/Brazil) who answered the Spanish Burnout Inventory, a sociodemographic questionnaire, a work-related questionnaire and and occupational stressors questionnaire. The prevalence identified was 6.5% for Profile 1 BS (Enthusiasm toward the job - inverse, Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence) and 4.4% for Profile 2 BS (Enthusiasm toward the job - inverse, Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence, Guilt). Stressors that predicted Burnout Syndrome were work content, work organization, type of public served, social environment of work, physical conditions of the workplace, work hours, workload, relationship with heads, and relationship with colleagues. Results suggest a need for intervention in occupational stressors present in work organization.
