Abstract

Aim: To analyze the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and associated factors in health professionals from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a University Hospital in Recife-Pernambuco, Brazil, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: exploratory cross-sectional study, carried out at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco - HCPE, located in the city of Recife. The research used two questionnaires, the Self Report Questionnaire - 20 and another that contained sociodemographic, mental health treatment and individual work information. For data analysis, the absolute and relative frequency of the analyzed variables was performed. For the bivariate analysis, we used the estimate of the association between outcomes and independent variables through the chi-square test and their respective prevalence ratios. Results: 91 questionnaires were answered, corresponding to 81.25% of the sample space. The presence of CMD was observed in 57.1% (n = 56) of the professionals, 63.7% (n = 58) reported sleeping poorly, while 64.8% (n = 59) tired easily and 61, 5% (56) reported being tired all the time. Females had a prevalence of 1.84 times more CMD (95%CI = 1.18-2.86; x2 = 0.012). Individuals without a partner had 1.44 times higher prevalence of MCT (CI = 1.01-2.05; x2 = 0.035). Conclusions: This research found a high frequency of mental health problems among workers in the researched ICU, in addition to symptoms related to CMD. These data demonstrate the need to develop actions and strategies to prevent the effects of the pandemic on the physical and mental health of frontline workers from all regions of the country, who are epidemiologically similar.
