The robustness of deep neural networks (DNNs) against adversarial example attacks has raised wide attention. For smoothed classifiers, we propose the worst-case adversarial loss over input distributions as a robustness certificate. Compared with previous certificates, our certificate better describes the empirical performance of the smoothed classifiers. By exploiting duality and the smoothness property, we provide an easy-to-compute upper bound as a surrogate for the certificate. We adopt a noisy adversarial learning procedure to minimize the surrogate loss to improve model robustness. We show that our training method provides a theoretically tighter bound over the distributional robust base classifiers. Experiments on a variety of datasets further demonstrate superior robustness performance of our method over the state-of-the-art certified or heuristic methods.

Self-testing refers to a device-independent way to uniquely identify the state and the measurement for uncharacterized quantum devices. The only information required comprises the number of measurements, the number of outputs of each measurement, and the statistics of each measurement. Earlier results on self-testing of multipartite state were restricted either to Dicke states or graph states. In this paper, we propose self-testing schemes for a large family of symmetric three-qubit states, namely the superposition of W state and GHZ state. We first propose and analytically prove a self-testing criterion for the special symmetric state with equal coefficients of the canonical basis, by designing subsystem self-testing of partially and maximally entangled state simultaneously. Quantum key distribution (QKD) based on coherent states is well known for its implementation simplicity, but it suffers from loss-dependent attacks based on optimal unambiguous state discrimination. Crucially, previous research has suggested that coherent-state QKD is limited to short distances, typically below 100 km assuming standard optical fiber loss and system parameters. In this work, we propose a six-coherent-state phase-encoding QKD protocol that is able to tolerate the total loss of up to 38 dB assuming realistic system parameters, and up to 56 dB loss assuming zero noise. The security of the protocol is calculated using a recently developed security proof technique based on semi-definite programming, which assumes only the inner-product information of the encoded coherent states, the expected statistics, and that the measurement is basis-independent. Prepare-and-measure (P&M) quantum networks are the basic building blocks of quantum communication and cryptography. These networks crucially rely on non-orthogonal quantum encodings to distribute quantum correlations, thus enabling superior communication rates and information-theoretic security. Here, we present a computational toolbox that is able to efficiently characterise the set of input-output probability distributions for any discrete-variable P&M quantum network, assuming only the inner-product information of the quantum encodings. Our toolbox is thus highly versatile and can be used to analyse a wide range of quantum network protocols, including those that employ infinite-dimensional quantum code states. To demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of our toolbox, we use it to reveal new results in multipartite quantum distributed computing and quantum cryptography.
