Despite refinement of surgical techniques, intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) continue to challenge neurosurgeons in the way of selecting the best treatment for any particular patient with regard to the medical history, clinical findings, location and size of the AVM, and in the light of their personal experience. In order to clarify the long-term results of various forms of treatment, a follow-up analysis was performed on outcome in 300 consecutive patients treated at the Department of Neurosurgery of University of Essen Medical Center between 1970 and 1989 for symptoms due to an angiographically demonstrated intracranial AVM. more...
