Wetlands have an important ecological function and economic value. However, with economic development and urban expansion, wetland plants have suffered serious damage. Rare and endangered plants are "thermometers" that reflect the health processes of their ecosystems. To better protect the wetlands in Sanya, China, we systematically investigated and analyzed the species, quantities, distributions, and community characteristics of the rare and endangered plants in the Sanya River basin using the sample and sample strip methods. We established a total of 152 quadrats, of which 46 contained rare and endangered plants. We identified 27 rare and endangered plants that mainly appeared in the tree and shrub layers. The dominant families and genera of the community were evident. However, the proportion of families and genera with fewer or single species was high, indicating that the species composition of the community is complex, and the plant species diversity is rich. The dominant species in each layer of the community were evident, and the rare and endangered plants are occasional species of the community. The community similarity in the urban areas was high, indicating that the rare and endangered plants in these areas require highly homogenous habitats. The community similarity in the suburbs was low, indicating that the rare and endangered plants in these areas are highly adaptable to different habitats. Threat factors and vegetation coverage degree had a significant impact on the number of species and population size of rare and endangered plants. Finally, according to our study and IUCN classification criteria for the endangered levels, Sonneratia × gulngai meets the CR (Critical Endangered) assessment criteria, thus we recommend upgrading it to the endangered level from VU (Vulnerable). Neutron-induced uranium fission reactions play an essential role in advanced nuclear energy research, basic and applied nuclear science. Based on the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Back-streaming white neutron source (Back-n), the measurement of the 236,238U fission cross sections relative to 235U from the threshold to 200 MeV was carried out by using time-of-flight (TOF) method with a multi-cell fast fission ionization chamber in double-bunch mode. The TOF spectra in double-bunch mode were unfolded by using Bayesian method. The fission cross section ratios of 238U/235U and 236U/235U were obtained. The experimental data of the 236,238U/235U fission cross section ratios measured in single-bunch mode were re-analyzed in high energy region and the upper limit was extended to 200 MeV for comparison. The experimental results in double-bunch mode are in good agreement with those in single-bunch mode and the main evaluation data within experimental uncertainties. The 236,238U(n,f) cross sections were obtained from the measured ratios and the standard 235U(n,f) cross sections and they agree well with the theoretical calculation, previous experiments, main evaluations and IAEA NDS. Strategies on the construction of enantiomerically pure silicon‐stereogenic silanes generally relies on desymmetrization of prochiral and symmetric substrates. However, dynamic kinetic asymmetric transformations of organosilicon compounds have remained underdeveloped and unforeseen owing to a lack of an effective method for deracemization of the static silicon stereocenters. Here we report the first Rh‐catalyzed dynamic kinetic asymmetric intramolecular hydrosilylation (DyKAH) with "silicon‐centered" racemic hydrosilanes that enables the facile preparation of silicon‐stereogenic benzosiloles in good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. The special rhodium catalyst controlled by non‐diastereopure‐type mixed phosphine‐phosphoramidite ligand with axial chirality and multiple stereocenters can induce enantioselectivity efficiently in this novel DyKAH reaction. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the amide moiety in chiral ligand plays important role in facilitating the SN2 substitution of chloride ion to realize the chiral inversion of silicon center. The thyroid hormone (TH)-controlled recruitment process of brown adipose tissue (BAT) is not fully understood. Here, we show that long-term treatment of T3, the active form of TH, increases the recruitment of thermogenic capacity in interscapular BAT of male mice through hyperplasia by promoting the TH receptor α-mediated adipocyte progenitor cell proliferation. Our single-cell analysis reveals the heterogeneous nature and hierarchical trajectory within adipocyte progenitor cells of interscapular BAT. Further analyses suggest that T3 facilitates cell state transition from a more stem-like state towards a more committed adipogenic state and promotes cell cycle progression towards a mitotic state in adipocyte progenitor cells, through mechanisms involving the action of Myc on glycolysis. Our findings elucidate the mechanisms underlying the TH action in adipocyte progenitors residing in BAT and provide a framework for better understanding of the TH effects on hyperplastic growth and adaptive thermogenesis in BAT depot at a single-cell level. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) interacting with target RNAs play essential roles in RNA metabolism at the post-transcription level. Perturbations of RBPs can accelerate cancer development and cause dysregulation of the immune cell function and activity leading to evade immune destruction of cancer cells. However, few studies have systematically analyzed the potential prognostic value and functions of RBPs in squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (SCCHN). Here, for the first time, we comprehensively identified 92 differentially expressed RBPs from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. In the training set, a prognosis risk model was constructed with six RBPs, including NCBP2, MKRN3, MRPL47, AZGP1, IGF2BP2, and EZH2, and validated by the TCGA test set, the TCGA all set, and the GEO data set. In addition, the risk score was related to the clinical stage, T classification, and N classification. Furthermore, the high-risk score was significantly correlated with immunosuppression, and low expression of EZH2 and AZGP1 and high expression of IGF2BP2 were the main factors. Thus, the risk model may serve as a prognostic signature and offer highlights for individualized immunotherapy in SCCHN patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The novel temperature-stable microwave dielectric ceramics of Ce0.5Sm0.5O1.75 were fabricated via the mixed oxide reaction method, with the detail information including crystal phase, microstructure, sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties being systematically investigated. For crystal phase, all the diffraction patterns were indexed as cubic fluorite-type structure with Fm-3m (225) space group and exhibited a single phase with no obvious peak position shift. The grain growth was analyzed by density and average grain size. For microwave dielectric properties of Ce0.5Sm0.5O1.75 ceramics, the dielectric constant value (εr) was dependent on density. The quality factors (Q × f values) were investigated considered with average grain size. And the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf value) had no significant change during the sintering temperature range, which was found consistent with the trend of the dielectric constant value. The Ce0.5Sm0.5O1.75 ceramics sintered at 1475 °C for 4 h exhibited good microwave dielectric performances with εr = 18.21, Q × f = 70,500 GHz, and τf = − 16.4 ppm/°C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ellipticine, a natural product from Ochrosia elliptica, has been broadly investigated for its anticancer effects. Although inflammation has been clearly identified as a key factor in the onset and progression of cancer, the relationship between ellipticine and inflammation remains unknown. Hence, the aims of the present study were to assess the effects of ellipticine on the inflammatory responses to lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced macrophages and to potentially identify the underlying mechanisms involved. Viability testing showed that ellipticine was not significantly toxic to Raw264.7 cells and actually conveyed protective effects to LPS-stimulated Raw264.7 cells and human peripheral blood monocytes by decreasing the secretion of inflammatory factors (TNF-α and IL-6). The results of western blot analysis and electrophoretic mobility shift assays showed that ellipticine markedly suppressed LPS-induced activation of the JNK/AP-1 (c-Fos and c-Jun) signaling pathway, but not ERK/p38/NF-κB pathway (p65 and p50) activation. Furthermore, ellipticine reduced the inflammatory response and mortality in a mouse model of LPS-induced endotoxic shock. We are facing an era with annotated biological data rapidly and continuously generated. How to effectively incorporate new annotated data into the learning step is crucial for enhancing the performance of a bioinformatics prediction model. Although machine-learning-based methods have been extensively used for dealing with various biological problems, existing approaches usually train static prediction models based on fixed training datasets. The static approaches are found having several disadvantages such as low scalability and impractical when training dataset is huge. In view of this, we propose a dynamic learning framework for constructing query-driven prediction models. The key difference between the proposed framework and the existing approaches is that the training set for the machine learning algorithm of the proposed framework is dynamically generated according to the query input, as opposed to training a general model regardless of queries in traditional static methods. Accordingly, a query-driven predictor based on the smaller set of data specifically selected from the entire annotated base dataset will be applied on the query. The new way for constructing the dynamic model enables us capable of updating the annotated base dataset flexibly and using the most relevant core subset as the training set makes the constructed model having better generalization ability on the query, showing “part could be better than all” phenomenon. According to the new framework, we have implemented a dynamic protein-ligand binding sites predictor called OSML (On-site model for ligand binding sites prediction). Computer experiments on 10 different ligand types of three hierarchically organized levels show that OSML outperforms most existing predictors. The results indicate that the current dynamic framework is a promising future direction for bridging the gap between the rapidly accumulated annotated biological data and the effective machine-learning-based predictors. Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in intensive care unit. A severe insult in the form of infection or trauma primes the host immune system so that a subsequent, relatively trivial insult produces systemic inflammation response syndrome, which can lead to MODS and death. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is stored in the tertiary granules of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. These cells are key effectors in acute inflammatory diseases, such as sepsis and MODS. Endotoxin leads to rapid release of MMP-9 from these granules in vitro and in vivo. However, the role of this enzyme in MODS, and whether it is associated with organ injury at the early stage of MODS remains unclear. This present work may study role of MMP-9 with the MODS rats that caused by trauma and infection and investigate the mechanism of organ injury at the early stage of MODS. Here, we developed a rat model for MODS caused by trauma and infection and analyzed the dynamic level of MMP-9 and determined the relationship between MMP-9 level and early phase of organ injury in MODS rat. The histological changes in pulmonary, renal, and hepatic tissue were observed by light microscope. The expressions of plasma MMP-9 proteins were detected by an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and its levels in the pulmonary, renal, and hepatic tissue were detected by using immunohistochemistry, respectively. The results indicated that there were no significant improvements in histopathology of rats in control group. However, the pulmonary, renal, and hepatic damage were serious in MODS groups. The concentration of MMP-9 in plasma and tissues of MODS rats increased markedly at the early stage and were higher than that of the control group. Moreover, the MMP-9 level in plasma positively correlated with the levels of pulmonary, renal, and hepatic tissue. This study clearly shows that MMP-9 is good biomarker to predict the severity of injury organ at the early phase of MODS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A detailed investigation has been performed at the QCISD(T)/6‐311++G(d,p)//B3LYP/6‐311+G(d,p) level for the reaction of NCO with C2H5 by constructing singlet and triplet potential energy surfaces (PES). The results show that the title reaction is more favorable on the singlet PES than on the triplet PES. On the singlet PES, the initial addition processes are barrierless and release lots of energy. The dominant channel occurs via the fragmentations of the initial adduct C2H5NCO and C2H5OCN to form C2H4 + HNCO and HOCN, respectively. With higher barrier heights, other products such as CH4 + HNC + CO, CH3CHNH + CO, CH3CH + HNCO, and CH3CN + H2 + CO are less competitive. On the triplet PES, the entrance reactions surpass significant barriers; therefore, it could be negligible at the normal atmospheric condition.
