Engineering lacks quantitative measures of racism and sexism in engineering graduate education. Racial and gendered disparities in participation, persistence, and experience combined with qualitative evidence indicate that discrimination interferes with marginalized students' well-being and degree completion. The Discrimination in Engineering Graduate Education (DEGrE) scale helps researchers identify environmental gender and race/ethnicity-based discrimination in engineering graduate education. The scale development and initial assessments reported here demonstrate the validity, internal reliability, and utility of the DEGrE subscales. The DEGrE scale will assist engineering colleges and departments evaluate their graduate students' experiences to guide decision makers in identifying changes needed in their graduate programs to improve equity and inclusion of marginalized students.

Background: The use of measurement instruments to assess the use of Evidence-Based Practice by health professionals has been frequently reported in studies. Aims: This systematic review aimed to summarize, describe, and evaluate the measurement properties of the instruments that evaluate the use of Evidence-Based Practice in health professionals. Methods: The search was carried out in four databases considering three groups of search terms: evidence-based practice, evaluation, and measurement proprieties. Studies were included that described the use of instruments to assess Evidence-Based Practice in health professionals, with the full-text publication, which analyzed the measurement properties, in English. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated using COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments. Results: In total, 6,429 were found and only 92 were eligible for data analysis. Forty new instruments were identified most were developed for nursing and physical therapist. The investigators performed at least 1 type of validity test on 73% of the instruments. Reliability was tested at 90%, through internal consistency. Responsiveness was tested on less than half of the instruments (30%). Most of the instruments identified are reliable and valid to measure evidence-based practice in health professionals. Conclusion: Although the Fresno Test remains the most complete instrument, and adequate for use. The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments checklist classified 7 (seven) instruments as suitable for the target audience.

Although parallel analysis has been found to be an accurate method for determining the number of factors in many conditions with complete data, its application under missing data is limited. The existing literature recommends that, after using an appropriate multiple imputation method, researchers either apply parallel analysis to every imputed data set and use the number of factors suggested by most of the data copies or average the correlation matrices across all data copies, followed by applying the parallel analysis to the average correlation matrix. Both approaches for pooling the results provide a single suggested number without reflecting the uncertainty introduced by missing values. The present study proposes the use of an alternative approach, which calculates the proportion of imputed data sets that result in k (k = 1, 2, 3 . . .) factors. This approach will inform applied researchers of the degree of uncertainty due to the missingness. Results from a simulation experiment show that the proposed method can more likely suggest the correct number of factors when missingness contributes to a large amount of uncertainty.

This was the first study in which a psychometrically validated STEM measure, the "Student STEM" (S-STEM), was studied for HSSWD. This study also represented the first time a psychometrically validated STEM measure, the "Student STEM" (S-STEM), was studied for HSSWD. Data were collected from 229 HSSWD in a western state and analyzed using Cronbach's Alpha, McDonald's Omega, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The Alpha and Omega results showed less internal consistency in HSSWD attitudes toward mathematics than their attitudes toward the other three S-STEM subscales. The EFA results showed preliminary indications of construct validity for the engineering and technology subscale. Limitations of the study are its modest sample size and some measurement imprecision. Implications of the study are further psychometric analyses of the S-STEM for HSSWD and educators focusing on increasing STEM opportunities for HSSWD.

The Big Three Perfectionism Scale (BTPS) was created to integrate different aspects of perfectionism, including the newly conceptualized concept of narcissistic perfectionism. The goal of our two studies (N = 1341) was to examine the psychometric properties of the Polish adaptation of the BTPS, supporting the validity and portability of the measure. The studies were conducted among people who had a child, thus contributing to a better understanding of parental perfectionism, one of the key factors influencing parental well-being and a child's functioning. Our analyses included investigating the structure of the scale, intercorrelations between subscales, reliability, and convergent validity by correlating BTPS scores with other measures of perfectionism and correlates of psychopathology (borderline symptoms) and parental difficulties (parental stress and parental burnout). Results supported the structure of the original BTPS. As predicted, confirmatory factor analysis indicated that items comprising the Polish adaptation of the questionnaire, like the original version, measure three related but specific aspects of perfectionism: rigid perfectionism, self-critical perfectionism, and narcissistic perfectionism. The three dimensions were also found to be specifically related to the difficulties experienced by parents. Further, the Polish version of the BTPS was found to have good internal reliability and validity. Our results from two independent Polish samples suggest that the Polish version of the BTPS is a psychometrically robust measure of perfectionism for assessing the three perfectionism factors.

Students with complex communication needs have increasingly been using non-dedicated communication systems, such as mobile devices, to support their communication needs. This in turn, has led to an increased used of augmentative and alternative communication apps. The main challenge currently faced is the lack of empirically validated apps and evaluation systems to assess the features of the apps. As a result, this study attempted to determine the reliability of an app evaluation tool that was grounded in the components of the feature matching model. The goal was also to identify if the app evaluation tool could be used to evaluate various types of augmentative and alternative communication apps. Participants evaluated apps across the dimensions of usability, output, and display. Results suggest that expert raters were more reliability than novice raters across the various types of apps. Practical implications and future research directions are discussed.

The Expectancy-Value model has been extensively used to understand students' achievement motivation. However, recent studies propose the inclusion of cost as a separate construct from values, leading to the development of the Expectancy-Value-Cost model. This study aimed to adapt Kosovich et al.'s ("The Journal of Early Adolescence", 35, 5-6, 2015) instrument for assessing achievement motivation in science and math among Spanish-speaking students aged 9-12. The psychometric evaluation encompassed examining validity, reliability, and measurement invariance for gender. The findings support the applicability of the expectancy-value-cost model in elementary school students, providing a valid and reliable tool for assessing achievement motivation in the science and math domain. However, the findings for the measurement invariance for gender are less conclusive and warrant future psychometric evaluations. This study opens avenues for future research on achievement motivation in Spanish-speaking contexts and populations.

Organization, time management, and planning (OTMP) skills are behavioral manifestations of executive functioning linked to academic outcomes. Interventions to improve OTMP skills have shown favorable outcomes. The Children's Organizational Skills Scale parent and teacher forms (COSS-P, COSS-T) are widely used for assessing OTMP skills, but there is limited research on this scale. This study examined the factor structure and construct validity of the COSS in a non-clinical and clinical sample of students in grades 2-8 (Study 1; n = 1138 COSS-T; 1155 COSS-P), and teacher-referred students with OTMP deficits in grades 3-5 (Study 2; n = 184). In Study 1, a bifactor model with a general factor and three subfactors demonstrated good fit for the COSS-P (RMSEA = 0.057) and COSS-T (RMSEA = 0.052). This model was replicated in Study 2. The general factor on both versions demonstrated an acceptable to high level of internal reliability. An acceptable degree of reliability was also identified for subfactor 1 (Task Planning). The COSS was shown to be effective in differentiating children with ADHD from a comparison group drawn primarily from the non-clinical sample (AUC = 0.84 COSS-P; 0.85 COSS-T). Sex differences of medium magnitude were identified on the total score of both COSS versions. Correlations between the COSS-P and COSS-T were variable across samples. The findings provide strong evidence for using the total score on the COSS-P and COSS-T as an index of overall OTMP skills deficits. Given variable cross-informant correlations on the COSS, multi-informant assessment of OTMP skills is strongly indicated.

The revised two-factor Study Process Questionnaire and the Approaches and Study Skills Inventory for Students are two instruments commonly used to measure student learning approach. Although they are designed to measure similar constructs, it is unclear whether the metrics they provide differ in terms of their real-world classification of learning approach. The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes of these two inventories in a study population from an undergraduate (baccalaureate) human anatomy course. The three central goals of this study are to compare the inventories in terms of 1) how students are classified, 2) the relationship between examination performance, time spent studying, and learning approach, and 3) instrument reliability. Results demonstrate that student classifications of corresponding scales of each inventory are significantly correlated, suggesting they measure similar constructs. Although the inventories had similar reliability, neither was consistently strong in predicting examination performance or study habits. Overall, these results suggest that the two inventories are comparable in terms of how they measure learning approach, but the lack of correspondence between learning approach scores and measurement outcomes questions their validity as tools that can be used universally in classrooms.

The recent development of AI Chatbot -- specifically ChatGPT -- has gained dramatic attention from users as evident by ongoing discussion among the education fraternity. We argue that prior to making any conclusion, it is important to understand how ChatGPT is being used in higher education across the globe. This paper makes a significant contribution by systematically reviewing the global literature on the use of ChatGPT in higher education using PRISMA guidelines. We included 69 studies in the analysis based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. We presented the scope of published literature in three aspects: (i) contextual, (ii) methodological, and (iii) disciplinary. Most of the studies have been carried out in HICs (n = 53; 77%) representing the field of higher education (n = 37; 54%) without specifying the discipline, while only a few studies were based on empirical data (n = 19; 27%). The findings based on included studies reveal that ChatGPT serves as a convenient tool to assist teachers, students, and researchers in various tasks. While the specific uses vary, the underlying motivation remains consistent: seeking personal benefits and reducing academic burdens. Teachers use it for personal and professional learning and resource generation while students use it as personal tutors for various learning purposes. However, concerns related to accuracy, reliability, academic integrity, and potential negative effects on cognitive and social development were consistently highlighted in many studies. To address these concerns, we have proposed a comprehensive framework for universities along with directions for future research in higher education as an optimal response.

Education in Doctor of Medicine programs has moved towards an emphasis on clinical competency, with entrustable professional activities providing a framework of learning objectives and outcomes to be assessed within the clinical environment. While the identification and structured definition of objectives and outcomes have evolved, many methods employed to assess clerkship students' clinical skills remain relatively unchanged. There is a paucity of medical education research applying advanced statistical design and analytic techniques to investigate the validity of clinical skills assessment. One robust statistical method, multitrait-multimethod matrix analysis, can be applied to investigate construct validity across multiple assessment instruments and settings. Four traits were operationalized to represent the construct of critical clinical skills (professionalism, data gathering, data synthesis, and data delivery). The traits were assessed using three methods (direct observations by faculty coaches, clinical workplace-based evaluations, and objective structured clinical examination type clinical practice examinations). The four traits and three methods were intercorrelated for the multitrait-multimethod matrix analysis. The results indicated reliability values in the adequate to good range across the three methods with the majority of the validity coefficients demonstrating statistical significance. The clearest evidence for convergent and divergent validity was with the professionalism trait. The correlations on the same method/different traits analyses indicated substantial method effect; particularly on clinical workplace-based assessments. The multitrait-multimethod matrix approach, currently underutilized in medical education, could be employed to explore validity evidence of complex constructs such as clinical skills. These results can inform faculty development programs to improve the reliability and validity of assessments within the clinical environment.

Stability and change in students' achievement goals (AGs) are of great relevance for educational research and practice. In two separate meta-analyses, we investigated the rank-order stability (93 studies, 569 effect sizes, 54,736 students), as well as the mean-level change (157 studies, 1,170 effect sizes, 81,464 students) in AGs throughout students' academic careers (K-12 to university). We found that the average rank-order stability of AGs ([rho] = 0.51) was in the approximate range of rank-order stability reported for personality traits and other motivational constructs. Stability increased with students' grade level and decreased with increasing interval duration between measurement points. Overall, the mean levels of all AGs declined throughout K-12 (Glass's [delta] ranged from -0.15 to -0.06 per year), indicating a quantitative decrease in AGs throughout this academic stage. During the university years, only mastery-approach goals significantly declined ([delta] = -0.22 per year), indicating a qualitative decrease in AGs.

Many autistic adults are likely to experience poor financial wellbeing and hardship due to unemployment and under-employment. Research in the general population demonstrates that subjective financial wellbeing--how people perceive their financial situation--influences quality of life. There is no research, however, examining the subjective financial wellbeing of autistic people. This study therefore aimed to (1) understand the subjective financial wellbeing of a sample of autistic adults living in Australia compared to a general Australian population sample and (2) identify the predictors of subjective financial wellbeing in this sample of autistic adults. To this end, 191 autistic adults aged 18-83 years (mean = 39.28, standard deviation = 11.74) completed an online survey about their economic status, financial wellbeing, financial behaviors, confidence in money management skills, and anxiety and depression symptoms. Almost half of our sample felt it was a struggle to make ends meet, whereas only one-third of the general Australian population felt this way. Similar to the general population, autistic people's income and their financial behaviors (specifically, saving and not borrowing for everyday expenses) predicted their sense of financial wellbeing. Our findings have implications for both research and practice.

Family income questions in general purpose surveys are usually collected with either a single-question summary design or a multiple-question disaggregation design. It is unclear how estimates from the two approaches agree with each other. The current paper takes advantage of a large-scale survey that has collected family income with both methods. With data from 14,222 urban and rural families in the 2018 wave of the nationally representative China Family Panel Studies, we compare the two estimates, and further evaluate factors that might contribute to the discrepancy. We find that the two estimates are loosely matched in only a third of all families, and most of the matched families have a simple income structure. Although the mean of the multiple-question estimate is larger than that of the single-question estimate, the pattern is not monotonic. At lower percentiles up till the median, the single-question estimate is larger, whereas the multiple-question estimate is larger at higher percentiles. Larger family sizes and more income sources contribute to higher likelihood of inconsistent estimates from the two designs. Families with wage income as the main income source have the highest likelihood of giving consistent estimates compared with all other families. In contrast, families with agricultural income or property income as the main source tend to have very high probability of larger single-question estimates. Omission of certain income components and rounding can explain over half of the inconsistencies with higher multiple-question estimates and a quarter of the inconsistencies with higher single-question estimates.

Literature screening is the process of identifying all relevant records from a pool of candidate paper records in systematic review, meta-analysis, and other research synthesis tasks. This process is time consuming, expensive, and prone to human error. Screening prioritization methods attempt to help reviewers identify most relevant records while only screening a proportion of candidate records with high priority. In previous studies, screening prioritization is often referred to as automatic literature screening or automatic literature identification. Numerous screening prioritization methods have been proposed in recent years. However, there is a lack of screening prioritization methods with reliable performance. Our objective is to develop a screening prioritization algorithm with reliable performance for practical use, for example, an algorithm that guarantees an 80% chance of identifying at least 80% of the relevant records. Based on a target-based method proposed in Cormack and Grossman, we propose a screening prioritization algorithm using sampling with replacement. The algorithm is a wrapper algorithm that can work with any current screening prioritization algorithm to guarantee the performance. We prove, with mathematics and probability theory, that the algorithm guarantees the performance. We also run numeric experiments to test the performance of our algorithm when applied in practice. The numeric experiment results show this algorithm achieve reliable performance under different circumstances. The proposed screening prioritization algorithm can be reliably used in real world research synthesis tasks.

Introduction: This study investigated the reliability and validity of the dynamic risk outcome scales--short version (DROS-SV). This instrument is developed to monitor treatment progress using dynamic risk factors in clients with mild intellectual disabilities or borderline intellectual functioning and behavioural and/or mental health problems. Method: Data were collected from 264 clients who received Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT), a form of intensive outpatient treatment. Results: A principal component analysis showed that there were six components explaining 73.9% of the variance. Furthermore, the DROS-SV showed good internal consistency of its subscales and total score ([alpha] > 0.78). Correlating the DROS-SV with the Historical and Clinical subscales of the Historical, Clinical and Future--30 indicated convergent and divergent validity. Discussion: The DROS-SV has good psychometric properties for measuring dynamic risk factors in clients with mild intellectual disabilities or borderline intellectual functioning in FACT teams.

The aim of this paper is to measure and compare the quality of services provided by higher education institutions in the Czech Republic and Vietnam. It is not the sheer volume of services offered, but their quality, which matters as a strategic tool enhancing the competitiveness in the tertiary education market. Feedback from student-clients is valuable to school management in their efforts to improve the services supplied. Samples of hundreds of students from the Czech Republic and Vietnam were involved in the research applying the SERVQUAL method. The five-dimensional questionnaire was administered, and the obtained data were analysed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results show that Czech respondents are less satisfied with the service quality than their Vietnamese counterparts. In both countries, the quality perception in all dimensions was lower than expectations, the largest gaps being found in the Assurance dimension. Czech students placed the greatest emphasis on the Empathy factor, while their Vietnamese colleagues preferred the Tangibles dimension. To improve the quality of services, higher education institutions in the Czech Republic are advised to facilitate fast and unambiguous information transfer, ensuring comfort, security, and a supportive learning environment for students, with helpful staff willing to address their concerns.

Artificial intelligence is already all around us, and its usage will only increase. Knowing its capabilities is critical. A facial recognition system (FRS) is a tool for law enforcement during suspect searches and when presenting photos to eyewitnesses for identification. However, there are no comparisons between eyewitness and FRS accuracy using video, so it is unknown whether FRS face matches are more accurate than eyewitness memory when identifying a perpetrator. Ours is the first application of artificial intelligence to an eyewitness experience, using a comparative psychology approach. As a first step to test system accuracy relative to eyewitness accuracy, participants and an open-source FRS (FaceNet) attempted perpetrator identification/match from lineup photos (target-present, target-absent) after exposure to real crime videos with varied clarity and perpetrator race. FRS used video probe images of each perpetrator to achieve similarity ratings for each corresponding lineup member. Using receiver operating characteristic analysis to measure discriminability, FRS performance was superior to eyewitness performance, regardless of video clarity or perpetrator race. Video clarity impacted participant performance, with the unclear videos yielding lower performance than the clear videos. Using confidence-accuracy characteristic analysis to measure reliability (i.e., the likelihood the identified suspect is the actual perpetrator), when the FRS identified faces with the highest similarity values, they were accurate. The results suggest FaceNet, or similarly performing systems, may supplement eyewitness memory for suspect searches and subsequent lineup construction and knowing the system's strengths and weaknesses is critical.

This study examines the relationship between antecedents of Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation (IEO) in female students. The study uses locus of control, Machiavellianism, resilience, and mindfulness as independent variables. Data for the study was collected using standardized self-rating questionnaires on 854 female students as a unit of analysis. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (EFA and CFA) have been used to examine the reliability and validity of the measurement. Consequently, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was conducted using Python after validating the measurement model. The final model describes the relationship of Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation with the internal dimension of locus of control together with Machiavellianism, resilience, and mindfulness. All mentioned constructs had a significant positive influence on the dependent variable. Simultaneously, mindfulness was found to have a positive effect on resilience and internal locus of control on Machiavellianism. This study has expanded the dynamic research boundary and resonates with the recent developments in IEO conceptualizations. Moreover, this work is one of the few studies conducted exclusively among female students.

The use of Experience Sampling Methods (ESM) to assess students' experiences, motivation, and emotions by sending signals to students at random or fixed time points has grown due to recent technological advances. Such methods offer several advantages, such as capturing the construct in the moment (i.e., when the events are fresh on respondents' minds) or providing a better understanding of the temporal and dynamic nature of the construct, and are often considered to be more valid than retrospective self-reports. This article investigates the validity and reliability of a variant of the ESM, the DEBE (an acronym for difficult, easy, boring and engaging, and pronounced 'Debbie') feedback, which captures student-driven (as and when the student wants to report) momentary self-reports of cognitive-affective states during a lecture. The DEBE feedback is collected through four buttons on mobile phones/laptops used by students. We collected DEBE feedback from several video lectures (N = 722, 8 lectures) in different courses and examined the threats to validity and reliability. Our analysis revealed variables such as student motivation, learning strategies, academic performance, and prior knowledge did not affect the feedback-giving behavior. Monte Carlo simulations showed that for a class size of 50 to 120, on average, 30 students can provide representative and actionable feedback, and the feedback was tolerant up to 20% of the students giving erroneous or biased feedback. The article discusses in detail the aforementioned and other validity and reliability threats that need to be considered when working with such data. These findings, although specific to the DEBE feedback, are intended to supplement the momentary self-report literature, and the study is expected to provide a roadmap for establishing validity and reliability of such novel data types.

This article aims to provide practical strategies and examples for pre-service early education programs and early education teachers to develop music- and movement-based curricula for teacher preparation programs and early childhood music classrooms. To address the inconsistencies in early childhood music programs, the authors developed the Lighthouse Framework, which utilizes constructivist ideology to help students learn through and adapt the teaching model while simultaneously learning music- and movement-based content. Through this proposed framework, pre-service teachers can gain authentic teaching experience, real-time feedback, and an adaptable framework for their future curriculum planning.

Objective: This study evaluated Tummy Time recommendations in patient education materials and informal sources found on the Internet. Methods: Patient education materials, available from health professionals online, and informal sources, found outside of healthcare, were evaluated for consistency with evidence-informed recommendations. Patient education materials were also evaluated for readability and visual presentation. Results: Twelve sets of patient education materials were included in the top 20 search results. Only one of them addressed all the evidence-informed recommendations accurately. Fifty informal sources were included in analysis, ranging from search rank #1 to #57. Nearly half of the informal sources were judged fully consistent with evidence-informed recommendations. Counter to best practice recommendations, two-thirds of the patient education materials were written above the reading level expected of a student with no more than an elementary school education. All used strategies to enhance clarity, although none met all standards for visual presentation. Conclusion: Although some good resources are available, healthcare providers should exercise caution when selecting or recommending patient education materials online, even when they are available from healthcare professionals. Parents turning to the Internet will find accurate information. However, to develop a comprehensive understanding, they may need to visit multiple sites. Practice Implications: Healthcare professionals are responsible for providing or directing their clients to reliable, comprehensive sources of information, and for being aware of the quality of information they may discover through their own searches. Healthcare websites are responsible for communicating clearly and comprehensively with their clients and the public. Some parent education materials require revision for readability, formatting and consistency with Tummy Time recommendations.

This best-evidence synthesis appraises the design and outcome characteristics of vocabulary intervention studies conducted with preschool through 6th grade emergent bilingual (EB) children and spotlights rigorously designed studies for which effects could be better attributed to instructional features. Twenty-nine selected studies were analysed for the design characteristics of attrition, random assignment, and baseline equivalence as well as the outcome characteristics of reliability and outcome alignment. Following suggestions from the What Works Clearinghouse (2020) guidelines, levels of evidence for effectiveness were determined for each treatment-comparison group contrast. Studies meeting effectiveness standards were further analysed to determine intervention impacts (i.e., effect size) on EBs' English word learning. Analyses revealed that 17 studies (59% of the sample) were experimental and employed random assignment whereas baseline equivalence was established for most of the 12 quasi-experimental studies (41% of the sample). Attrition did not plague the majority of vocabulary intervention studies. The outcome measures of all but one study showed satisfactory reliability indices, 85% of which showed alignment across treatment and comparison groups. Thirty-six measures (65% of measures) across 21 reviewed studies (72% of studies) met acceptable levels of evidence of effectiveness. Most studies employed standardised vocabulary measures to assess EBs' growth in breadth rather than depth of vocabulary knowledge. The significance of outcome measures with large, medium and small posttest effect sizes are discussed relative to their oral/written, receptive/expressive, definitional/contextual and depth/breadth vocabulary characteristics. Implications address significant knowledge gaps regarding EBs' English vocabulary intervention and highlight issues and recommendations.

Competence in the use of prepositions is versatile because they mark special relationships between persons, objects, and locations. However, using prepositions of time is challenging for many. The research investigated embodied pedagogical game approach in learning selected prepositions of time by Grade 7 English First Additional Language learners at Tshiluvhi Primary School in Limpopo Province, South Africa. The research employed a quantitative approach to analyse data mathematically and statistically. The embodied cognitive approach was utilised because it holds that identification of prepositions of time is a fundamentally based cognitive aspect involving high mental constructs like judgement and thinking. A questionnaire was utilised to obtain data from the participants. Probability random sampling was used to sample 35 participants because it gave them an equal chance of participation in the research. A pilot study was conducted on learners who were not part of the sample to test the instrument's reliability. A Statistical Package of Social Sciences Version 22 was employed for data analysis. Using embodied pedagogical game approach, pre-test results showed participants' poor competence while the post-test revealed an outstanding achievement in learning prepositions of time. The research recommends continuous use of the embodied pedagogical game approach in learning prepositions of time.

Early adolescence is a time marked by upheaval and change. Youth are navigating increased social pressures from constant connection with peers. Youth have access to 24 hours of social connection via technology, but they increasingly report feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression (Keles et al., 2020). They are also entering a world with increased political division, climate disasters, and decreases in public safety from events like mass shootings (Coronese et al., 2019; Follman et al., 2022). As youth navigate these new challenges, adults are seeking ways to understand better how to build meaningful connections with youth that may help mitigate the negative impacts of environmental and social stress. The potential for positive effects from adult/youth relationships is high, and even more important for girls, with research suggesting them to be at even higher levels of risk (Stallard et al., 2013). This paper explores adolescent girls' perspectives regarding who they identify as trustworthy adults and what traits make that person trustworthy. This exploration can build a foundation for fostering healthy relationships between both groups.

This study explores the integration of technology platforms in online modular learning and proposes an enhanced learning continuity framework using online teaching as an alternative delivery modality. The study captures participants' experiences related to online modular education through surveys by employing a qualitative approach. The findings demonstrate that integrating technological platforms enhances learning continuity. Online teaching offers flexible and accessible learning experiences, fostering effective teaching and learning. The study emphasizes the significance of comprehensive technical infrastructure, blended learning approaches, pedagogical and learner support services, continuous assessment, and a healthy learning environment in crafting the framework. The framework emphasizes robust technological infrastructure, training programs, blended learning approaches, pedagogical support, diverse assessment strategies, and a healthy learning environment by addressing challenges like the digital divide, technical difficulties, and lack of face-to-face interaction, flexibility, adaptability, and continuous evaluation are emphasized to address specific institutional and learner needs. Implementing the framework requires collaboration among educational institutions, policymakers, and communities to create inclusive online learning environments. Efforts should be made to ensure equitable access to reliable internet connections, support disadvantaged learners, and foster creativity through interactive activities. Monitoring and evaluation play a vital role in tracking progress and making informed decisions for improvement. This study provides a foundation for institutions to develop an enhanced learning continuity framework using online teaching. By optimizing the benefits of online modular learning while addressing challenges, the framework promotes effective teaching and learning in the online education landscape.

Outside of education, many academic disciplines developed and promulgated checklists to evaluate the quality of qualitative studies. This article used an embedded mixed methods approach in three stages: development of a conceptual framework reviewing 62 guidelines; a content analysis of key areas of the guidelines; and review of dissertations to see how practices compare to model guidelines. Using 15 educational administration dissertations in the United States, a thematic analysis examined components of the three frameworks: planning the study, in the field, and reporting results. Many researchers failed to adequately describe methods in all phases, with lack of intensity in fieldwork being a ubiquitous problem. Developing validity and reliability should move from a post hoc procedure to a central component in all stages of design. The implications of the frameworks move beyond a rigid checklist and provide direction to develop strategic mapping for designing research in an iterative fashion to optimize representativeness of findings.

The aim of this study is to develop a measurement tool to measure the listening/watching attitudes of pre-service teachers. 387 pre-service teachers were administered the scale, and its validity and reliability studies were conducted by exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency measurement, and confirmatory factor analysis. EFA revealed that the scale has four dimensions. To determine the reliability of the scale, the Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated at 0.928. In the principal component analysis, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) coefficient was found to be 0.937. In addition, the Barlett Sphericity test was significant (X[superscript 2] = 4607.552; p<0.05). Varimax rotation resulted in factor loadings ranging between 0.37 and 0.91. In CFA, the standardized regression coefficients averaged around 0.700 and the items in each dimension had a significant predictive power. As a result of the analysis, a valid and reliable scale was obtained.

From the perspective of positive psychology, the study and measurement of subjective well-being has popularized a growing interest towards variables such as affective perception. In an attempt to explain and evaluate the affective structure in positive terms (PA) and negative terms (NA), PANASN affect scale (Sandín, 2003) constitutes the version adapted for children and teenagers of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson et al., 1988). Opposite to the confirmatory study made in teenagers by Sandín (2003), this paper proceeds to analyse the internal structure and reliability of the above mentioned questionnaire after being administered to 636 students aged between 6 and 14 years. An instrumental type of research methodology was carried out. The instrument used was the Positive and Negative Affect Scale for Children and Adolescents (PANASN). While confirmatory and exploratory analysis show an appropriate adjustment, these properties tend to fade when three or four factors are considered. In response to this, we reflect on the need to consider certain aspects of improvement in content and form, which are essential if we want to use said instrument with primary education students.

In peer observation of teaching, an experienced colleague in the educational environment of a faculty member observes the educational performance of that faculty member and provides appropriate feedback. The use of peer review as an alternative source of evidence of teaching effectiveness is increasing. However, no research has been done in the field of tool design and development to peer review in classrooms that use a learning management system (LMS). This study used mixed methods. In the qualitative stage, after studying sources and interviewing professors active in virtual education, a question bank was prepared and a 26-item initial questionnaire created. In the quantitative stage, the psychometric properties of the developed instruments, such as the face, content, and structural validity, were examined, and reliability tests were performed. IBM SPSS Statistics (Version 20) was used for analysis. Five categories, including content preparation, content presentation, effective interactions, motivation management, and support services, and 26 subcategories were determined to be effective indicators in peer observation in LMS-based classes in medical sciences. During content analysis, 9 items were removed due to lack of necessary criteria. Then, using principal component analysis and varimax rotation in the present mode (Watkins, 2018), 5 components with eigenvalues higher than 1 were extracted, which explained a total of 70.55% of the total variance. The inter-cluster correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.88. Thus, the peer observation measurement tool, designed with 17 expressions using the answer method "yes/no", showed good validity and reliability. The research results demonstrate that the evaluation of virtual classes of professors by their peers is effective and that the results can be used in e-learning promotion plans.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on online assessment in the context of opportunities and threats based on the literature. To this end, 19 articles related to the AI tool ChatGPT and online assessment were analysed through rapid literature review. In the content analysis, the themes of "AI's assistance role", "automatic grading and feedback", "improving assessment" and "time benefit" were obtained in the opportunities category, while the themes of "academic integrity concern", "reliability issues" and "adaptability issues" were obtained in the threats category. The impact of AI on online assessment was explained within the scope of these themes. The results revealed that the most emphasis was placed on "improving assessment" themes in the opportunities category, and "academic integrity concern" themes in the threats category. At the end of this preliminary review, it was revealed that more studies investigating the integration of AI to online assessment are needed and all educational institutions, especially distance education institutions, should take measures to ensure the ethical use of AI.

Introduction: Research suggests that one of the most pervasive consequences of traumatic events is the resulting dysregulation of emotions. Educators, including teachers, administrators, and student services staff, are instrumental in supporting students as they navigate overwhelming emotions by modeling and teaching skills to regulate emotional states (i.e., emotion co-regulation). Given the saliency of emotion co-regulation within educational contexts, this study presents the development and preliminary psychometric exploration of a measure of educator self-efficacy for co-regulation. Methods: We examined differences by educator characteristics (gender, professional experience, role in the school) as well as previous training in trauma-informed approaches and culturally responsive strategies. Results and discussion: Preliminary findings support the measure to be reliable and valid, with construct validity supported by positive associations to other theoretically applicable constructs such as culturally responsive strategies, as well as educator characteristics such as professional experience and role. However, a lack of association with trauma-informed training, suggests the need for additional research into supporting emotion co-regulation self-efficacy for educators.

This study aims to examine the effect of diagnostic labels on the responses of preservice early childhood teachers to the inclusion of children with special needs in general education classes. 228 preservice early childhood teachers, who participated in the study, answered the Demographic Information Form and the Teachers' Comfort and Concern Scale (TCCQ). The questionnaire consists of two formats in which vignettes are presented with and without a diagnosis label. As a result of the t-test and the Mann Whitney-U test applied to the data obtained from the six-points scale questions of TCCQ, it was observed that the comfort levels of the preservice teachers and their classroom adaptation and the need for support did not differ according to the presence or absence of the diagnostic labels, the type of child's disability, the grade level and the undergraduate program of the preservice teachers. According to the results of the inductive analysis conducted to the open-ended questions in the TCCQ, the participants felt positive/comfortable, negative/concerned and responsible for being teachers of children with special needs. They wanted to learn about children's characteristics and previous educational life before they attended the early childhood classroom.

Diagnostic tests have been developed previously to measure algebraic thinking skills; however, the tests do not specifically address algebraic problem-solving. Thus, an Algebraic Thinking Test (ATT) Instrument was developed to measure algebraic thinking skills in problem-solving involving linear equations. ATT comprises nine open-ended questions with three algebraic thinking constructs: Generalized Arithmetic, Functions and Modelling. Generalized arithmetic involves students in efficient calculation and generalization; functional involves identifying number patterns, while modelling involves solving openended problems, identifying similarities, and performing calculations involving variables. This study is meant to determine the quality of ATT instruments through the validity and reliability analysis using the Rasch Measurement Model. The sample consisted of 120 seventh graders aged 12 to 13, selected from two secondary schools in the Tuaran district, Malaysia. The instrument was found to have a strong dimensionality and high construct validity. The reliability of Cronbach Alpha (KR-20) demonstrated a value of 0.90 (very high), and item and respondent reliability of 0.98 (excellent) and .86 (good), respectively, with an item separation index of 6.29 and 2.45 for the person separation index. ATT has good validity and high reliability in measuring algebraic thinking skills among seventh graders in secondary schools.

This study aims to develop a scale to determine the Teachers' Management of Undesirable Student Behaviours. The study to determine the construct validity and internal consistency was carried out in the general screening model. The study groups consist of 822 students (458 for AFA; 364 for DFA) studying at various high schools in the centre and districts of Kirklareli in the 2020-2021 academic year. According to the exploratory factor analysis, it was seen that the scale consists of 3 factors and 21 items. The reliability of the scale was determined from the reliability analyses conducted with the Cronbach Alpha (a) coefficient and McDonald's Omega coefficient. The total Cronbach Alpha ([alpha]) value of the scale is 0.90. As a result of the test, it was understood that all substances are distinctive because the "t" values are significant at the. 001 level. According to the result of the confirmatory factor analysis, all items are significant under the relevant factors. These results show that the Scale of Teachers' Management of Undesirable Student Behaviours is a valid and reliable scale. The scale can be used at the national and international levels to determine teachers' levels in managing undesirable student behaviours. [The publication year (2022) shown on the PDF is incorrect. In Saskatchewan, school divisions have been largely tasked with creating classroom-based assessment policy as, until very recently, the province lacked a current, Ministry-produced guiding document. Using an inductive and qualitative approach to summative content analysis, informed by a policy analysis framework, this project focused on school division administrative policies (n=24) to ascertain their alignment with contemporary assessment principles. Three principles--standards-based assessment, reliability and validity, and fairness and equity--and six sub-principles--ongoing/continuous, transparent/(involves) stakeholders, (excludes) extraneous/arbitrary factors, triangulation, differentiation, and inclusion--served as the focus of analysis, with particular attention given to how clearly and consistently principles were addressed.

The use of personality inventories has been limited because of their cost and the length. To overcome these limitations, this study created the Personality Identity Estimator (PIE), an easy-to-use inventory to estimate personality types that can be used at no cost. PIE is a categorical inventory containing 12 items with 3 items for each of the 4 personality-type dimensions in Jungian theory. A sample of 1,104 was used to create PIE. Validity was established through multivariate analyses using data from the administration of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to 553 of the sample. Reliability was established by test-retest. Consequently, PIE is a new short-form instrument to estimate personality type following Jung's concept of personality types. PIE can be completed quickly, is easy to score and interpret, and can be used for self-assessment of personality types. PIE can be used to address individual differences, to increase self-awareness, and as an interactive instructional tool. Thus, PIE is a new valid and reliable tool that can be used in both instructional and research settings confidently and at no charge. Permission is granted to use the Personality Identity Estimator in practice and research. A printable copy of PIE is appended.

Retaining students until they complete their qualifications is one of the main aims of many higher education institutions. Retention of students is also looked at from different perspectives in the literature. This small, exploratory, narrative enquiry research looks into the experiences of twenty-one domestic students during their first year and a half of a three-year bachelor's degree at a New Zealand university. The same researcher conducted all the interviews, which were recorded, transcribed and imported to Nvivo for thematic analysis. The researcher attempted to draw comparisons between the students who withdrew from the university within the first year and a half and those who did not in order to gain a deeper understanding of the institutional factors which may be involved in retention of students. Four main themes were found in the interview data, relating to expectations for student effort, guidance provided by instructors, feedback provided on assignments and consistency, which seemed to be significant to the university experience for many students.

This study aims to develop an instrument that measures democratic attitudes levels in primary school students in third and fourth grades. This study involved 591 students (302 for exploratory factor analysis, 289 for confirmatory factor analysis) enrolled in the 3rd and 4th grades. A literature review was conducted to prepare the scale items, and a pool of 32 items was created. A face and content validity assessment was performed by taking the opinions of four educators who are experts in classroom education and social studies education. A construct validity test was conducted on 302 students. The exploratory factor analysis resulted in a scale with three dimensions and 15 items. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted with a group of 289 students using the scale. Based on the confirmatory factor analysis, the 15-item and 3- dimensional structure of the scale was compatible with the collected data. According to the results, the reliability coefficient of the scale was .85. Thus, the scale can be considered a valid and reliable tool for measuring democratic attitudes among primary school students in third and fourth grades.

The theoretical framework and conceptual framework help to determine the purpose of scientific research, facilitate the analysis of data, organize the thoughts of researchers, increase the reliability of research, and ensure that research is shared in a wide area. Although these two concepts seem to be basically the same, they have structural differences and the roles they assume are not same. Despite this, it is seen that many researchers use these two concepts when structuring their academic studies without fully distinguishing between them. In this research, 87 doctoral theses in the field of physics education in Turkiye from past to present were examined in terms of theoretical framework and conceptual framework. In the study, the case study, which is one of the qualitative research approaches, was used and the obtained data were analyzed with descriptive method. As a result of the findings obtained, it was seen that all of the theses had at least one theoretical framework or conceptual framework, and instead of these two titles, five different titles were used: theoretical framework in 29 of 87 theses, conceptual framework in 18, introduction in 18, literature review in 15 and general information in 7. When the distribution of theses in terms of theoretical framework and conceptual framework was analyzed, 64 of the 87 theses were evaluated under the titles of conceptual framework and 23 of them were evaluated under theoretical framework titles. In addition, when the distribution of approaches, theories, models, strategies and methods used in the theses was examined, it was concluded that they were mostly accumulated in the learning-teaching, conceptual understanding, cognitive dimension and affective dimension categories.

The present study was aimed to achieve two objectives: (a) translate and adapt the English version of Planned Happenstance Career Inventory (PHCI) in Urdu language, and (b) to establish its psychometric properties with respect to Pakistani culture. The study was divided into two phases. Phase I consisted of forward and backward translation of the scale and its initial statistical analysis, whereas Phase II was focused on establishing the psychometric properties. Results of the Phase I yielded reliable (Cronbach's [alpha] = 0.863) and valid (item-total r > 0.5, p < 0.01) results on a sample of 253 students (female= 147, males = 106). Phase II analysis yielded correlation (r = 0.732, p < 0.01), on a sample of (n=87), which suggests strong Test-Retest reliability whereas discriminant validity was proved with insignificant relationship of Counterproductive Work Behaviour Checklist and PHCI-Urdu version (r = 0.018, p > 0.05), and significant correlation with Urdu Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (r = 0.358, p < 0.01) proved the convergent validity of the two scales. This study concludes that PHCI-Urdu would be an effective tool for individual career counselling as well as trainings related to career counselling to prepare students for uncertain circumstances from public and private educational sectors.

Many studies have been conducted to investigate the effect of using smartphones in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of the present study was to identify the factor structure and the psychometric properties of a smartphone questionnaire. The questionnaire was translated into Arabic and administered to 203 students at a university in Bahrain. Both exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used to explore the reliability and factorial validity of the Arabic version of the questionnaire. The results showed that the four-factor structure is appropriate. The findings obtained in this study indicate that the translated version of the smartphone questionnaire can be effectively used in Arabic-speaking countries.

This study is designed to reveal the research trends of graduate theses published in the field of computer programming in K-12 between 2018 and 2022. Document analysis was used for data collection in this study. The data was divided into 9 categories, and the results demonstrated that the scholars in the Departments of Computer Educational and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) at Atatürk University and Ondokuz Mayis University of Türkiye mainly published master's theses in this field in 2019. Another result was that though CEIT is also the main department for doctoral theses, no difference exists in terms of years or universities. "Teaching, learning, and training programming" and "computational thinking" are the most frequently used keywords in graduate programs, respectively. While quantitative and mixed method (parallel, convergent), convenience sampling, and psychometric scales are preferred in master's theses, mixed method (explanatory, mixed), purposive sampling, interviews/focus group interviews, and psychometric scales are preferred in doctoral theses, respectively. Observation and semi-structured interview forms are used as data collection tools in the theses. Although quantitative methods are mainly utilized in data analysis, parametric and non-parametric statistical tests are also used, and content analysis is resorted to as part of qualitative methods. Whilst validity and reliability studies have been carried out measurement tools are employed in master's theses, scales have been developed in doctoral theses. The present study also offers some suggestions for future research on teaching computer programming.

The present research examined the perceived teachers' charismatic leadership and entrepreneurial intentions of college students. Based on the theory of emotional contagion, this study proposes a mediating model of entrepreneurial passion between college students' perception of teachers' charismatic leadership and entrepreneurial intentions. A questionnaire survey was conducted in 420 college students in Jiangsu Province, China. The results showed that college students' perceived teachers' charismatic leadership had a significant positive effect on entrepreneurial passion. Moreover, perceived teachers' charismatic leadership of college students was found to have a significant positive predictive effect on entrepreneurial intentions, and entrepreneurial passion had a significant positive effect on entrepreneurial intentions. The mediation model analysis indicated that entrepreneurial passion played a partial mediating role between college students' perception of teachers' charismatic leadership and entrepreneurial intentions. The study results deepened our understanding of the inner influence mechanism of college students' perception of teachers' charismatic leadership and entrepreneurial intentions, in addition to providing a practical basis for college educators.

Physics education aims to develop sophisticated thinking abilities and enhance conceptual depth, but student interest has decreased, emphasizing the importance of teacher quality in fostering success and positive attitudes. The aim of the study was to examine the physics teachers' self-efficacy, innovative teaching, and comprehensive teaching approach levels. As data collecting instruments, self-efficacy, innovative physics teaching, and comprehensive teaching approach scores were utilized. In the pilot research group, validity and reliability assessments were conducted on the scales. The primary research involved 241 physics teachers. As the measurement variables were constantly changeable, Latent Profile Analysis was utilized. The present study's results suggest that teachers have high self-perceptions in various dimensions related to teaching effectiveness, including self-efficacy, innovative teaching, and comprehensive teaching approach. These results are consistent with previous research that has shown a positive relationship between teacher self-perceptions and teaching effectiveness. Future research could explore the relationship between teacher self-perceptions and student achievement to better understand the impact of self-perceptions on student outcomes. Overall, the results of this study highlight the importance of supporting teachers' self-efficacy and providing opportunities for innovative teaching and professional development to improve comprehensive teaching approach.

There are contradictory results regarding how students' learning outcomes can be predicted by various family and community inputs among previous studies, creating an evidence gap. Furthermore, previous studies have mostly concentrated on the cognitive aspect of students' learning outcomes, ignoring the affective and psychomotor dimensions, creating key knowledge gaps. Bridging these gaps, this predictive correlational study was conducted to understand how cultural capital, parental involvement (family inputs), support for schools, security network and school reforms (community inputs) jointly and partially predict students' overall, cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning outcomes in the context of Calabar Education Zone, Nigeria. A random sample of principals (n = 78) and students (n = 915) recruited through a multistage approach, participated in the study. Data were collected through the physical administration of three sets of questionnaires designed by the researchers. The psychometric properties of the questionnaires (such as validity, dimensionality, reliability and goodness of fit) were all analysed and found acceptable based on pilot data. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 27 and AMOS version 26 software. Results from the main study proved, among others, that family inputs (family social capital and parental involvement) jointly and individually had a significant contribution to students' overall, cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning outcomes. Similarly, community inputs (support for school, security network and school reforms) have significant composite and partial contributions to students' overall, cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning outcomes in public secondary schools. This result implies that parents and host community leaders must strengthen their partnerships with secondary schools and contribute their quota to institutions' curricular and co-curricular activities.
