The article presents the case of Shirley Rassieur, who was mistakenly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Two months after her death, after doctors had taken out her brain, sectioned it and subjected tissue to an antibody test and examined it under an electron microscope, they got back a different diagnosis: Rassieur died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare and invariably fatal disease that kills by hollowing out the brain.
