Search

Neste artigo, abordamos alguns processos em dança de um grupo de pesquisa durante o distanciamento social provocado pela pandemia da Covid-19, no ano de 2020. Inicialmente, relatamos a formação e as características que definem o grupo através da arte e universidade. Em seguida, apresentamos três pontos de atenção sobre esses corpos com(part)ilhados, reunindo relatos e reflexões, no campo da poética, do corpo e da dança. Por fim, apontamos vestígios de uma poética do cotidiano como pesquisa em meio ao isolamento doméstico.

O presente relato apresenta “A mulher solitária: experiências em Dança mediadas pela Tecnologia” descrevendo processos de criação artística ocorridas no ambiente de uma casa durante a pandemia de COVID-19. A pesquisa teve como objetivo deslocar a utilização convencional de dispositivos tecnológicos criando outras possibilidades de interação entre corpo e tecnologias do cotidiano, concebendo a Dança como manifestação artística. Identificou-se que a interação entre Corpo e Tecnologia pode resultar na promoção da Dança como saber e na produção de conhecimento e manutenção de uma Cultura viva, que discute mudanças e impactos artístico-sociais causados pela pandemia.

Este artigo discute a trajetória da política audiovisual no Brasil a partir da criação da Agência Nacional do Cinema (Ancine), em 2001, e sua migração institucional para a área da cultura, em 2003. São contextualizadas as principais regras da política gerida pela Agência, responsáveis por um ciclo virtuoso do audiovisual dentro de um projeto industrial, até uma mudança de curso aprofundada em 2019 por decisões na esfera política. O intuito é refletir como medidas do Estado indicam a ruptura de um ciclo de desenvolvimento marcado por avanços significativos para a desconcentração e diversidade regional e cultural, mesmo dentro do modelo neoliberal que molda a política audiovisual brasileira. Settings Hemophilia is a coagulation disorder that occurs in one in 5000 male births. Patients with untreated severe hemophilia A have hemorrhagic complications, including joint bleeds and decreased survival. Emicizumab is a monoclonal antibody approved by the United States for routine prophylaxis of pediatric and adult patients with severe hemophilia A with factor VIII inhibitors. Objectives To perform a cost-effectiveness study of emicizumab prophylaxis for children and adults with severe hemophilia A compared with the current disease management in the Peruvian Ministry of Health and Social Security Health Insurance. Methods The patient transition between medical states was modeled with Markov methodology, and the lifetime costs and incremental effects of emicizumab compared to current management were estimated. The budgetary impact of emicizumab was estimated by projecting annual net costs and its five-year present value. Results In the Ministry of Health, emicizumab would generate savings between 14.6 and 16.0 per child and 11.8 per adult, in current US$ million. Social Security Health Insurance savings would be 12.8 to 14.9 per child and 40.1 per adult. In addition, this strategy would generate effectiveness gains, measured in quality-adjusted life-years, of 0.36 per child and 0.56 per adult and 0.25 per child, and 0.36 per adult in those respective institutions. The budgetary impact would be a net annual saving of 12.8 and 15.0 US$ million in those entities. Conclusions The current management of hemophilia A is very costly and has health outcomes inferior to those possible with emicizumab. This drug would produce significant savings and better patient health. The Ministry of Health and Social Health Insurance should implement hemophilia prophylaxis and treatment protocols and finance this drug.

ABSTRACT Objective: To construct and validate an indicator plan for measuring and assessing patient safety in intrahospital transport. Method: Methodological study, developed in three stages, between July 2018 and July 2019. The content validity included the participation of nurses from the State of Bahia and experts from different regions of the country. For data analysis and interpretation, descriptive statistics were used. Results: After a pre-test round and two rounds of expert consultations, using the Delphi technique, the general content validity index that assessed the clarity of the indicators was measured at 1.00 and the representativeness was 0.97. Conclusion: The indicators make a significant contribution to the field of health and nursing, as it constitutes an instrument that will contribute to the professional practice of nurses, to patient safety and will still be viable for the practice of auditing or assessing the intrahospital transport process.

O trabalho trata diretamente da experiência na realização de um curso livre na modalidade online, como atividade complementar ao currículo em um curso de graduação na área de Comunicação da Universidade do Estado da Bahia (UNEB). Tal atividade surge como possibilidade em contribuir na construção de rumos/direcionamentos para a educação no contexto da pandemia Covid-19, na medida em que reflexiona o locus de ensino/aprendizagem – processos, espaços, sujeitos – através da arte e tecnologia, a partir de uma perspectiva decolonial. O curso MostrEmCasa teve como objetivo refletir sobre a importância da arte e das linguagens midiáticas como um elemento fundamental para a consciência, acolhimento e enfrentamento aos desafios vividos mundialmente, buscando experienciá-las no cotidiano “mínimo” imposto por esse período de isolamento/confinamento social. Os resultados apontam que a arte, através das tecnologias digitais, numa perspectiva decolonial, se constitui como um recurso para o livre pensar/fazer sobre si e sobre o mundo

Em 1 de Abril de 2020 foi decretado o Estado de Emergência através do decreto Presidencial 11/2020 que estendeu-se até 6 de Setembro de 2020. Através da Resolução n.º 72/2020, de 5 de agosto, o Presidente da República (PR) declarou o estado de emergência para todo o território moçambicano, posteriormente ratificado pela Lei n.º 9/2020, de 7 de agosto. A presente análise intitulada A capacidade estatal e as demandas da sociedade no contexto da covid-19 no setor da educação em Moçambique, tem por objetivo analisar a Capacidade Estatal e resposta do setor da educação no contexto da Pandemia da Covid-19. Em termos metodológicos recorreu-se a analise documental e bilbiográfica em torno da temática em questão. Pode se concluir que o Estado moçambicano tem demonstrado capacidade articuladora e minimizadora para enfrentar os desafios impostos pela Covid-19. A Capacidade Estatal para fazer face a nova dinâmica mostrou-se desafiadora e mantém-se neste processo como entidade primordial para garantir a eficácia e implementação de todas as medidas preventivas. Contudo o que fica em aberto é a capacidade financeira para que estas mesmas medidas possam ser abrangentes e inclusivas, tendo em conta as disparidades no acesso aos recursos e ao bem estar-estar.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the scientific production on the decision making of health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Integrative review in the databases CINAHL, MEDLINE, Scopus, ScienceDirect, WoS, and BVS. Inclusion criteria: original articles available in full, in any language, related to the object investigated. Results: During this pandemic, health workers have been making decisions based on ethical/bioethical principles (utility, beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, justice, proportionality, flexibility, clinical prognosis, duration of the need, and fair health attention), values (solidarity, equality, equity, utilitarianism, relational autonomy, reliability, reciprocity, maximization of the benefits and resources, and prioritization of those in worse conditions), beliefs and personal motivation, protocols, directives, tools, algorithms, recommendations, and criteria. Final considerations: Decision making has never been so necessary as in this pandemic. This article is not a recipe for the professionals, since decision making is based on numerous factors. However, it provides them with a foundation that can be helpful in this difficult process.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori infection in Chile remains as a public and private health-care system’s challenge, with a prevalence of the infection over 70%. Nowadays, antibiotic treatment of the infection is mandatory to prevent the arising of severe associated diseases but failures in the eradication therapy mainly due to clarithromycin resistance has been observed worldwide and first line eradication therapy seems to be not effective anymore in several geographical areas. Thus, health-care systems are committed to maintain an epidemiological surveillance upon the evolution of the antibiotic resistance of this priority 2 pathogen. OBJECTIVE: This work reports a 10 years surveillance of the primary antibiotic resistance of H. pylori clinical isolates at the Biobío region-Chile, and the evolution of resistance toward amoxicillin, clarithromycin, levofloxacin, metronidazole, and tetracycline among the species. METHODS: H. pylori strains were investigated during the periods 2005-2007 (1435 patients analysed) and 2015-2017 (220 patients analysed) by inoculating a saline homogenate biopsy onto the surface of Columbia agar (Oxoid, Basingstoke, UK) - supplemented with 7% horse red blood cells plus DENT inhibitor (Oxoid, Basingstoke, UK) - following by incubation at 37ºC under 10% CO2 atmosphere for five days. Antibiotic resistance pattern of the isolates was assessed using the disk diffusion test in Müeller-Hinton agar supplemented with 7% horse red blood cells followed by incubation for further three days under 10% CO2 atmosphere. Abstract Background Although intermittent rivers account for over half of the global fluvial network and could increase in length and quantity in Mediterranean climates (in response to climate changes), there is little documentation of organic matter input to them. This study was made possible by the cooperation of the Concepción Chiguayante School community and the Explora project (Chile), with the support of citizen science. The aim was to compare coarse particulate organic matter quantities and types in the Lonquén basin. Methods Samplings were performed in two perennial rivers and two intermittent rivers. First, the riparian vegetation of the streams was characterized through photointerpretation and subsequently the organic matter accumulated in the selected river beds was quantified and typified. Dans les universités chiliennes, la quantité d’étudiants étrangers qui effectuent des échanges universitaires a considérablement augmenté. Un grand nombre d’étudiants vient des pays dont la langue maternelle n’est pas l’espagnol. L’objectif de cette recherche transectionnelle descriptive est de présenter les difficultés perçues par 44 professeurs (faisant partie de trois disciplines différentes : sciences humaines, sciences sociales et ingénierie) d’étudiants étrangers en échange universitaire. Les principales conclusions de l'étude montrent que les étudiants ont un niveau d'espagnol insuffisant et manquent de connaissances nécessaires sur les sujets de leur spécialité.

O presente relato tem por objetivo dialogar sobre a temática que permeia a lei 10.639/03[1], em específico a cultura de matriz africana em sala de aula através da dança. Para trazer então à tona não só a questão do desenvolvimento e trabalho da lei em sala de aula, mas sim, maneiras de sensibilizar, problematizar e de re-educar no sentido de descolonizar a educação para todas as crianças e adolescentes, através das danças de expressões negras brasileiras e contemporâneas sobre outros olhares tornando sua prática uma vivência de sensibilização, consciência, e humanização de si enquanto indivíduo e em suas relações com o coletivo. [1] Lei que prevê o ensino da História e Culturas Afro Brasileiras e Africanas nas escolas de todo o País.

Este artigo relata o processo de criação da obra de dança intitulada Habitar e Pulsar: A Integração do Ser no Mundo é Dança. A metodologia da pesquisa acontece com a prática das abordagens somáticas de movimento e também com os estudos fenomenológicos de Bachelard(1999), que descreve a integração do ser no mundo através da imagem da casa, sendo ela em três bases: Porão, Térreo e Sótão. Os estudos fenomenológicos propiciaram a poética e o estudo do movimento nas abordagens somáticas proporcionou o ato da criação de uma obra de dança, embasada e vivida com o corpo, legitimando o processo de se construir conhecimento. O resultado foi a prática da pesquisa como confirmação potente dos estudos somáticos e da criação em dança como um espaço de múltiplos saberes.

Recently, some preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated the ability of brown seaweeds in reducing the risk factors for metabolic syndrome. Here, we analyzed the beneficial effect of a nutraceutical formulation containing a phytocomplex extracted from seaweeds and chromium picolinate in animal models of liver steatosis of differing severities (rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its complication, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)). This treatment led to a significant drop in hepatic fat deposition in both models (p < 0.01 vs. untreated animals), accompanied by a reduction in plasma inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor α, and C reactive protein, and myeloperoxidase expression in liver tissue. Furthermore, a modulation of the molecular pathways involved in lipid metabolism and storage was demonstrated, since we observed the significant reduction of the mRNA levels of fatty acid synthase, diacylglycerol acyltransferases, the sterol-binding protein SREBP-1, and the lipid transporter perilipin-2, in both treated NAFLD and NASH rats in comparison to untreated ones. In conclusion, this nutraceutical product was effective in reducing liver steatosis and showed further beneficial effects on hepatic inflammation and glycemic control, which were particularly evident in rats characterized by a more severe condition, thus representing a therapeutic option for the treatment of NAFLD and NASH patients.

Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs and statins are two widely prescribed drug classes that affect bone formation. The aim of this study was to elucidate the effect of diclofenac and simvastatin in artificial bone defect healing. One hundred and forty-four male Wistar rats were used, and the specimens were divided into groups, with respect to the route of drug administration and the type of defect healing (with or without collagen membrane), and subgroups, with respect to the study duration (2, 4 or 8 weeks). Diclofenac was intramuscularly administered while simvastatin was administered both systemically and locally. Animals were euthanized and specimens were histomorphometrically analyzed to evaluate the percentage of new bone formation (%). Bone healing that occurred without any intervention developed more steadily than that of all other groups. Diclofenac exerted a clear, direct inhibitory effect on bone healing and its systemic administration should be avoided. The systemic administration of simvastatin was related to severe myopathy, while the solvent for the local administration of simvastatin seemed to play significant role in bone growth, as simvastatin, when it is administered intraperitoneally in a DMSO solution, appeared to promote bone healing. Local administration may have a significant impact on bone healing and it should be further investigated with the type of solvent or carrier that is used, which both may play a significant role in bone repair induction.

RESUMO: A formulação de ração é uma necessidade básica na indústria de alimentos para animais. Em vista disto, os alimentos alternativos vem sendo utilizados como forma de minimizar o custo da ração. A farinha de inhame em substituição ao farelo de milho pode suprir as exigências energéticas dos peixes. Objetivou-se estudar o potencial de utilização da farinha de inhame, em proporções que possam somar quantidades de nutrientes e matérias primas convencionais e alternativas, a fim de atender as exigências diárias para juvenis de tilápia (Oreochromis niloticus). As rações experimentais consistiram de níveis crescentes de farinha de inhame em substituição ao milho, sendo o T1= contendo somente milho, T2= substituição do milho em 7,5%, T3= substituição do milho em 22,5%, T4= substituição do milho em 100%. Observa-se que dentre os tratamentos 0%, 7,5%, 22,5% e 30% o tratamento com 7,5% de inclusão da farinha de inhame apresentou o melhor resultado em relação ao desempenho de crescimento dos peixes, ao compararmos com o tratamento controle (0%), isso mostra a eficiência das propriedades do inhame. O farelo de milho pode ser substituído em 7,5 % de inclusão de farinha de inhame sem comprometer o desempenho zootécnico dos peixes. Resumo: O objetivo foi avaliar a relação da insatisfação no trabalho e ocorrência de transtornos mentais comuns (TMC), considerando os aspectos psicossociais do trabalho e a satisfação pessoal (SAP). Estudo transversal, em amostra de 3.084 trabalhadores/as de saúde de cinco municípios baianos. Empregou-se análise de modelagem de equações estruturais, estratificada por gênero. A insatisfação com o trabalho foi a variável de exposição principal. Os TMC, variável desfecho, foram avaliados pelo Self-Reporting Questionaire (SRQ-20). Satisfação pessoal, avaliada por questões do World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL), e os aspectos psicossociais estressores (AE) e protetores (AP), mensurados pelo Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) e pela escala Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI), foram tratadas como variáveis latentes. A insatisfação com o trabalho associou-se positivamente aos TMC, entre homens (0,160; IC95%: 0,024; 0,295) e mulheres (0,198; IC95%: 0,135; 0,260). Os AE associaram-se positivamente à insatisfação com o trabalho e aos TMC, enquanto os AP associaram-se negativamente a esses dois eventos, entre homens e mulheres. A insatisfação com o trabalho mediou o efeito dos aspectos psicossociais e da SAP na ocorrência de TMC. O modelo final apresentou bom ajuste nos grupos analisados. Elevada insatisfação, presença de aspectos psicossociais estressores, carência de aspectos protetores e insatisfação pessoal associaram-se aos TMC direta ou indiretamente. Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de ações voltadas à proteção da saúde mental no trabalho em saúde com o redesenho dos aspectos nocivos identificados e fortalecimento dos aspectos associados à menor ocorrência de TMC.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the characteristics of stigma in the interactions of people with pain and sickle cell disease and the coping strategies adopted. Methods: qualitative study, conducted in Bahia’s reference units between January and July 2018. In-depth interviews were applied to 25 adults, followed by content analysis and interpretation in light of the Sociological Theory of Stigma. Results: four categories emerged from the data: Stigma in interactions with family members; Stigma in interactions with people in the general public; Stigma in interactions with health workers; and Strategies for coping with stigma. Final Considerations: in the participants’ interactions, stigma produced discrediting pain reports, labeling and stereotyping, blaming patients for not improving their health, discrimination, racism, inadequate pain assessment, and delay in care. Coping included silencing, covering up, aggressive behavior, exposure to risk, reading religious texts and praises, and church attendance.

Friendship can be critical at any age but considering the gifts and challenges of twice-exceptional students, friends can be an essential element in navigating school years. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions that close friends of twice-exceptional students have about their friendship, characteristics, and how they relate to classmates and teachers. The sample was comprised of 17 students. Under a qualitative design, in-depth interviews were conducted with friends of students who were gifted with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or with autism spectrum disorder. Results showed a deep relationship, in which friends of twice-exceptional students were able to make a realistic depiction of them, which was based on empathy, common interests, and a connection that stems from facing adversity. The results are not only a contribution to current research but also take a positive and strengths-based angle not always found in the literature. Implications for practice and research were discussed.

Malaria is a human parasitic disease distributed in many tropical countries and caused by various Plasmodium species. Plasmodium vivax has the largest geographical distribution of the Plasmodium species and is predominant in the Americas, including Brazil. Only a small number of P. vivax vaccine formulations have successfully reached clinical trials relative to their P. falciparum counterparts. One of the candidate antigens for a blood-stage P. vivax vaccine is apical membrane antigen 1 (PvAMA-1). Due to the worldwide distribution of Plasmodium parasites, a high degree of variability has been detected in this antigen sequence, representing a considerable challenge to the development of a universal vaccine against malaria. In this study, we evaluated how PvAMA-1 polymorphisms influence vaccine-derived immune responses in P. vivax malaria. To this end, we expressed 9 recombinant protein representatives of different PvAMA-1 allelic variants in the yeast Pichia pastoris: Belem, Chesson I, Sal-1, Indonesia XIX, SK0814, TC103, PNG_05_ESP, PNG_62_MU, and PNG_68_MAS. After protein expression and purification, we evaluated the breadth of the immune responses derived from malaria-exposed individuals from the Amazon region. From 611 serum samples of malaria-exposed individuals, 53.68% of them reacted against the PvAMA-1 Belem through ELISA. Positive samples were further tested against recombinant proteins representing the other PvAMA-1 allelic variants. Whereas Sal-1, Chesson I and SK0814 variants were highly recognized by tested serum samples, Indonesia XIX, TC103, PNG_05_ESP, PNG_62_MU, and PNG_68_MAS were only slightly recognized. Moreover, polyclonal sera derived from C57BL/6 mice immunized with the PvAMA-1 Belem protein predominantly recognized Belem, Sal-1, Chesson I, SK0814, and Indonesia XIX through ELISA. Last, ELISA-based competition assays demonstrated that a previous interaction between anti-Belem polyclonal serum and Sal-1, Chesson I, SK0814, or Indonesia XIX proteins could further inhibit antibody binding to the Belem variant. Our human and mouse data suggest the presence of common epitopes or cross-reactivity between Belem, Sal-1, Chesson I, and SK0814 variants. Although the PvAMA-1 Belem variant induces strain-transcendent antibodies, PvAMA-1 variants from Thailand and Papua New Guinea may need to be included in a universal vaccine formulation to achieve protection against P. vivax malaria.

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium associated with various gastrointestinal diseases of high worldwide prevalence. Since probiotics are an emerging alternative to managing infection by this pathogenic bacterium, the present work evaluated, in a randomized double-blind study controlled by a placebo, if consuming Limosilactobacillus fermentum UCO-979C prevents H. pylori infection in humans. Participants consumed either L. fermentum UCO-979C-supplemented gelatin (67 participants) or placebo-supplemented gelatin (64 participants) once a day, five days per week for 12 weeks. H. pylori infection in the participants was controlled before and after the intervention detecting H. pylori antigens in stools. Regarding H. pylori-infected participants before the study, 100% remained infected at the end of the study in the placebo group, while 96.7% of those receiving the probiotic remained infected after the intervention. Most importantly, of the non-infected participants, 34.2% became infected and 65.8% remained non-infected in the placebo group, while 2.7% became infected and 97.3% remained as non-infected individuals in the intervened group. Therefore, consuming the L. fermentum UCO-979C strain significantly reduced H. pylori infection, demonstrating a 92.6% efficacy in avoiding infection by this pathogen in non-infected individuals; thus, this probiotic is an excellent candidate to prevent H. pylori infections in non-infected individuals.

RESUMO: É fato que muitas são as preocupações que giram em torno da segurança alimentar e sustentabilidade mundial. Para tal fato, aponta-se a criação de peixes como alternativa. O estudo teve como objetivo conhecer e descrever as espécies de peixes que são cultivadas no Núcleo de Piscicultura do Centro de Ciências Agrária da Universidade Federal de Alagoas (CECA/UFAL), a rotina do manejo diário desta criação e a importância para a piscicultura alagoana no cenário atual. O estudo foi realizado com base em visitas no Núcleo de Piscicultura do Centro de Ciências Agrárias Campus Rio Largo, no período de maio a setembro de 2019, em Sistema Semi-intensivo e os dados técnicos foram levantados in loco e na literatura cientifica. Os indicadores de qualidade de água avaliados foram a temperatura, o pH e a amônia duas vezes semanalmente. A piscicultura é mantida e gerenciada por zootecnistas formados no CECA com parcerias entre a empresa Junior, o município de Rio Largo e a Companhia de Desenvolvimento dos Vales do São Francisco e do Parnaíba (Codevasf) e tem como carro chefe a produção de alevinos de tilápia do Nilo. Foram introduzidas novas espécies para fins de estudos na reprodução e policultivo. Os lotes da criação foram formados e divididos conforme a espécie, podendo ser remanejadas a depender da necessidade e objetivo do manejo, o ciclo produtivo de alevinos da tilápia do Nilo foi avaliado a cada 30 dias, com produção total estimada de 400 mil alevinos durante o período de observações. Os peixes foram alimentados com ração comercial e nível de proteína bruta (PB) correspondente a cada espécie e fase de criação, uma porção fixa por biomassa. Não foi possível nesse estudo, avaliar dados produtivos das espécies que foram introduzidas e observadas neste período, pois elas estavam na fase juvenil para posteriormente ser feita seleção para nova fase de criação. A despesca dos peixes no policultivo foi definida a finalização em oito meses, não havendo possibilidade de acompanhamento. As espécies observadas são de grande potencial socioeconômico para Alagoas e para o Brasil, em especial a tilápia e apostar na diversificação de espécies como fator de segurança economicamente viável, frente às influências ambientais na produção de alimentos. Deve-se considerar que a piscicultura do CECA há dez anos está consolidada na tilapicultura e desempenhou um papel importante que foi a doação de alevinos de tilápia para piscicultores da agricultura familiar e ao Programa de Aquisição para Alimentação (PAA) no Município de Rio Largo, o que diferencia comparada as pisciculturas tradicionais. The full UHPLC-MS metabolome fingerprinting and anti-Helicobacter pylori effect of Gunnera tinctoria (Molina) Mirb. (Nalca) total extract (GTE) and fractions prepared from its edible fresh petioles were evaluated. The activity of G. tinctoria against H. pylori strains ATCC 45504 and J99 was assessed in vitro by means of agar diffusion assay, Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC), and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), while killing curve and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) were conducted in order to determine the effect of the plant extract on bacterial growth and ultrastructure. Additionally, the inhibitory effect upon urease was evaluated using both the Jack Bean and H. pylori enzymes. To determine which molecules could be responsible for the antibacterial effects, tentative identification was done by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap®-HR-MS). Furthermore, the total G. tinctoria extract was fractionated using centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC), giving four active fractions (1–4). It was determined that the crude extract and centrifugal partition chromatography fractions of G. tinctoria have a bactericidal effect being the lowest MIC and MBC = 32 μg/ml. In the killing curves, fraction one acts faster than control amoxicillin. In the urease assay, F3 exhibited the lowest IC50 value of 13.5 μg/ml. Transmission electronic microscopy showed that crude G. tinctoria extract promotes disruption and separation of the cellular wall and outer membrane detachment on H. pylori causing bacterial cell death.

Objetivo: identificar o conhecimento produzido na literatura sobre a cultura de segurança do paciente em cuidados intensivos. Método: trata-se de uma revisão integrativa fundamentada no referencial teórico de Whittemore e Knaf, realizada nos portais PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS) e Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), mediante cruzamento dos descritores “organizational culture”, “patient safety”, e “intensive care units”, por meio do operador booleano “AND”, totalizando 22 publicações. Resultados: foram identificadas três categorias de evidências: instrumentos para avaliação da cultura de segurança do paciente, fortalezas e fragilidades da cultura de segurança do paciente em terapia intensiva, cultura de segurança do paciente em terapia intensiva e fatores associados. Conclusão: as publicações demonstraram o quanto é difícil construir uma cultura de segurança local, já que nenhuma apresentou uma cultura de segurança do paciente positiva. The contribution focuses on the role of the tutor in online courses also in relationship to recent Italian regulation Ministerial Decree n. 6/2019 (“Auto-evaluation, evaluation, initial and periodic accreditation of the venues and courses of study”), that has introduced concrete indications on the presence of tutors in distance learning courses. In the first part, the study examines the evolution and skills of the tutor, with relation to the international debate on the spreading of distance learning. The second part concerns an exploratory survey conducted with the aim of collect the opinions and satisfaction levels of instructors and tutors on the tools used to monitor learning and support students in online courses (MOOCs) on EduOpen portal (https://learn.eduopen.org/). The need to strengthen and rethink the role of the tutor (greater professional recognition) has increased, particularly in the context of distance learning; in many cases the tutor is the main interlocutor of the students and as a support figure for the team of instructors is at the core of processes of didactic innovation.

Objetivo: avaliar a cultura de segurança do paciente e os fatores a ela associados em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva, sob a ótica da equipe multiprofissional. Método: estudo transversal, realizado em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva da cidade de Salvador, Bahia, Brasil, com 132 participantes, que responderam o instrumento Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture, entre novembro e dezembro de 2018. Para análise dos fatores associados à cultura de segurança do paciente, foi utilizada a regressão de Poisson com variância robusta. Resultados: o nível geral de cultura de segurança do paciente foi estatisticamente associado apenas à satisfação no trabalho. Oito das 12 dimensões foram estatisticamente associadas à satisfação no trabalho, ao tempo de trabalho na profissão, ao tempo de trabalho em terapia intensiva, ao tempo de trabalho na unidade e ao grau de instrução. Conclusão: promover a satisfação no trabalho pode ajudar a desenvolver a cultura de segurança do paciente em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva. Descritores: Segurança do Paciente. Gestão da Segurança. O presente artigo tem o objetivo de analisar o processo de transformação do parcelamento agrícola em urbano da Colônia de Caxias/RS. Tendo em vista a necessidade de povoar as extensas áreas de terras disponíveis no século XIX, houve a criação de imperiosas políticas governamentais que facilitaram o acesso da população estrangeira ao Rio Grande do Sul. A Lei de Terras de 1850, ou Lei nº 601 de 18 de setembro de 1850, dispunha de regulamentações que normatizavam o modo de inserção do colono em terras nacionais, a distribuição de terras públicas e a transformação da terra em mercadoria. A metodologia adotada para este trabalho estrutura-se no levantamento e análises de fontes documentais primárias, como mapas, decretos e relatórios de época. Conjuntamente à sistematização desses dados destaca-se a bibliografia pertinente a temática. O artigo é de caráter exploratório e qualitativo. Além do objetivo geral supracitado, destacam-se como objetivos específicos: compreender o processo, mapear o parcelamento e o saber erudito do responsável pelo traçado urbano. Como resultado alcançado, pondera-se que a ortogonalidade empregada na sede de Caxias tinha como objetivo central facilitar o comércio dos lotes, rurais e urbanos.

Abstract Ocotea porosa (Nees & Mart.) Barroso, commonly known as “imbuia”, “canela-imbuia” or “imbuia-amarela” in Brazil, is a tree of the Southern Atlantic Forest. The present study investigates the anatomy of leaf and stem, volatile oil chemistry, as well as cytotoxicity and insecticidal activities of the essential oil of O. porosa. Species identification was achieved by anatomy features, mainly due to paracytic and anomocytic stomata; non-glandular trichomes; biconvex midrib and petiole with a collateral open arc vascular bundle; presence of a sclerenchymatous layer, starch grains and crystal sand in the stem; and the presence of phenolic compounds in the epidermis, phloem and xylem of the midrib, petiole and stem. The main volatile components of the essential oil were α-pinene (19.71%), β-pinene (13.86%) and bicyclogermacrene (24.62%). Cytotoxicity against human cancer cell (MCF-7), mouse cancer cell (B16F10) and mouse non-tumoral cell (McCoy) was observed as well as insecticidal activity of the essential oil against susceptible ‘Ft. Dix’ bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.) by topical application.

The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family comprises 14 single-transmembrane receptors sharing structural homology and common repeats. These receptors specifically recognize and internalize various extracellular ligands either alone or complexed with membrane-spanning co-receptors that are then sorted for lysosomal degradation or cell-surface recovery. As multifunctional endocytic receptors, some LDLR members from the core family were first considered as potential tumor suppressors due to their clearance activity against extracellular matrix-degrading enzymes. LDLRs are also involved in pleiotropic functions including growth factor signaling, matricellular proteins, and cell matrix adhesion turnover and chemoattraction, thereby affecting both tumor cells and their surrounding microenvironment. Therefore, their roles could appear controversial and dependent on the malignancy state. In this review, recent advances highlighting the contribution of LDLR members to breast cancer progression are discussed with focus on (1) specific expression patterns of these receptors in primary cancers or distant metastasis and (2) emerging mechanisms and signaling pathways. In addition, potential diagnosis and therapeutic options are proposed.

Este texto apresenta e discute a concepção de Charles Renouvier sobre dilemas metafísicos na História da Filosofia. Com base no seu princípio de relatividade, esse pensador analisa as filosofias mais influentes ao longo da História, apontando as inconsistências e dilemas presentes nas teorias das metafísicas realistas. Neste artigo, acompanhamos as dicotomias explanadas na obra Les dilemmes de la métaphysique pure, com o objetivo de destacar as questões filosóficas que estão no fundamento dos dilemas e ressaltá-las como fio condutor da análise histórica de Renouvier.

Esta investigación indaga las creencias que 14 integrantes del equipo directivo de cuatro establecimientos educativos reportan en relación a las fortalezas y obstáculos presentes en las escuelas para la atención de la Alta Capacidad. El análisis de contenido cualitativo de las entrevistas semiestructuradas revela dos amplias temáticas, creencias y valoraciones, y acciones y prácticas. Los resultados señalan apertura a la temática, una comprensión restringida de la Alta Capacidad y obstáculos administrativos y técnicos para su atención en el contexto de la inclusión educativa. Se requiere de un esfuerzo concertado y sistemático que involucre a toda la comunidad escolar, a fin de brindar oportunidades reales de reconocimiento y desarrollo a este estudiantado.

Objetivo: descrever os procedimentos aplicados no processo de adaptação transcultural e validação de conteúdo do instrumento Sickle Cell Disease Health-Related Stigma Scale para o contexto brasileiro. Método: estudo metodológico, que realizou equivalência conceitual e de itens, equivalência semântica e equivalência operacional. O instrumento, com 40 itens subdividido em 4 subescalas, foi avaliado por um comitê de 14 especialistas e público- -alvo de 30 pessoas com doença falciforme, no estado da Bahia, Brasil. Resultado: na avaliação total, o instrumento apresentou IVC de 0,80 e 0,73 para pertinência e clareza, respectivamente. Todos os itens com IVC inferiores a 0,80 foram reavaliados pelos juízes e realizadas adequações. Não foram retirados ou acrescidos itens ao instrumento adaptado e a versão final foi nomeada Sickle Cell Disease Health-Related Stigma Scale-Br. Conclusão: a versão adaptada do instrumento está adequada ao contexto brasileiro e traz contribuições para a Enfermagem no enfrentamento e na superação do estigma em saúde.Descritores: Anemia Falciforme. El presente trabajo tuvo como propósito determinar la contribución de la inteligencia fluida y de funciones ejecutivas tales como la memoria de trabajo, el control inhibitorio y la fluidez verbal, a la comprensión de lectura de textos informativos de carácter científico en escolares. Asimismo, se analizó la contribución de la conciencia sintáctica, en tanto que habilidad metalingüística, a la comprensión de lectura de este tipo de estructura textual. Se utilizó un diseño transversal, exploratorio-descriptivo, de alcance correlacional. La muestra incluyó 175 escolares chilenos de ambos sexos, de 4° y 5º año de educación primaria de dos establecimientos educacionales. Se tomaron medidas de inteligencia fluida, memoria de trabajo, inhibición, fluidez verbal, conciencia sintáctica y comprensión de lectura de textos expositivos. Los resultados muestran relaciones estadísticamente significativas, pero débiles, entre inteligencia fluida, memoria de trabajo, inhibición y comprensión de lectura de textos informativos y relaciones significativas moderadas entre conciencia sintáctica y comprensión de lectura de este tipo de estructura textual.

Helicobacter pylori protects itself from stressful environments by forming biofilms, changing its morphology, or invading eukaryotic cells, including yeast cells. There is little knowledge about the environmental factors that influence the endosymbiotic relationship between bacterium and yeasts. Here, we studied if oxygen availability stimulated the growth of H. pylori within Candida and if this was a bacterial- or yeast strain-dependent relationship. Four H. pylori strains and four Candida strains were co-cultured in Brucella broth plus 5% fetal bovine serum, and incubated under microaerobic, anaerobic, or aerobic conditions. Bacteria-like bodies (BLBs) within yeast cells (Y-BLBs) were detected by microscopy. H. pylori was identified by FISH and by PCR amplification of the 16S rRNA gene of H. pylori from total DNA extracted from Y-BLBs from H. pylori and Candida co-cultures. BLBs viability was confirmed by SYTO-9 fluorescence. Higher Y-BLB percentages were obtained under anaerobic conditions and using H. pylori J99 and C. glabrata combinations. Thus, the H. pylori–Candida endosymbiotic relationship is strain dependent. The FISH and PCR results identified BLBs as intracellular H. pylori. Conclusion: Stressful conditions such as an anaerobic environment significantly increased H. pylori growth within yeast cells, where it remained viable, and the bacterium–yeast endosymbiotic relationship was bacterial strain dependent with a preference for C. glabrata.

This study is circumscribed by the field of applied linguistics and its aim is to determine the effects of learning strategies on the participants’ lexical competence. For this, a quasi-experimental study with pre and post test and the implementation of 6 learning strategies as treatment were designed. Measurements were performed using the Vocabulary Levels Test and the Lexical Frequency Profile. Results showed that the treatment did have a positive effect on the experimental group in all the tests in relation to the control group, being receptive knowledge the one that showed more progress.

Abstract:Research Question (RQ):In this research analysis, SERVQUAL tool was used with higher education institutions (HEIs) to measure service quality well as to compare them.HEIs were compared to see the service quality dimensions that need improvements in public HEI verses private HEIs. More specifically, to examine if there is a common trend with public universities in specific quality service dimensions that were not expected and less perceived by students. Purpose: Quality of service in a higher education institution is an essential aspect to ensure competency and attractiveness in the marketplace. Students are the primary stakeholders. Students expectations from an HEI and their perception of quality of service needs to be a strategic objective of an HEI.Public HEIs have a different strategy from private ones. In this research study, such a difference was examined to determine if it is reflected in a specific service quality dimension. Method: The study is based on a comparative literature review of SERVQUAL instrument used in measuring service quality in HEIs. Results obtained from the review of literature were triangulated and examined for specific quality dimensions that were common in public HEIs that need improvement. Results: Students’ perception was less than expected in the quality of service provided. Public HEIs should consider reliability and responsiveness as a priority and along with other dimensions to improve service quality. SERVQUAL could be used to examine and measure students’ perspective and measure periodical and implemented strategic objectives of higher education. Organization and Society:The research impact is mainly on HEIs, their managers,and their plans for quality improvements. Originality:The findings of the measuring tool SERVQUAL was compared among different HEIs from the review of literature using triangulation techniques. Limitations / Further research:Limitations of the study are concerned mostly with the different data collected among different HEIs in different geographical regions. Triangulation of the same scale excluded many related studies which used different scale measures or further specified quality dimensions yielding fewer studies that could be triangulated. Further research could be conducted by collecting data on public and private HEIs in the same region and time and then repeated at different time intervals to examine any progress.

Helicobacter pylori is a pathogenic bacterium and the main risk factor for gastric carcinoma. Presently it shows resistance to antibiotics and, therefore, it is important to find alternatives for prevention and treatment of this microorganism. Some probiotics, such as Lactobacillus fermentum strain UCO-979C inhibits H. pylori. In this work, we report the encapsulation of L. fermentum UCO-979C in a 3:1 proportion alginate-xanthan gum matrix (1.5% w/v) with 20% or without vegetal oil and the increase of bacterial density culturing capsules in MRS broth supplemented with calcium during 12 h to promote biofilm formation. L. fermentum UCO-979C released from capsules containing biofilm and subjected to pH 3.0 maintained the anti-H. pylori inhibitory activity. Capsules containing a biofilm of probiotics plus a polyunsaturated fatty acid rich in omega-3 could be an innovative technological solution to develop a functional food to prevent H. pylori infection.

Em África, o processo de democratização começou a ganhar relevância a partir dos anos 50, com os processos de descolonização, em que na maior parte dos países esse processo iniciou anos após a independência. Torna-se pertinente perceber como o processo de consolidação das instituições democráticas num contexto de democratização tem se operado em realidades periféricas. O objetivo do artigo é analisar a percepção dos eleitores em relação a confiança nas instituições e organizações do poder político, com base nas pesquisas de opinião feitas pelo Afrobarometer e analisar a sua relação com o processo de democratização em Moçambique. O viés de análise baseou-se no indicador política e sociedade, privilegiando o período de 2002 a 2015. A fundamentação teórica foi complementada pela revisão bibliográfica. Uma das conclusões que o artigo apresenta é o fato de, ao longo dos anos, a desconfiança nos processos democráticos ter aumentado, bem como um decréscimo na confiança em determinadas instituições.

O texto apresenta o processo de trabalho realizado no âmbito do projeto ParticipART — Criação, Comunidade e Desenvolvimento, cujo contexto de intervenção foi o centro histórico do Seixal e teve como parceira a Associação Cultural L1B. A intervenção incidiu na investigação sobre a memória dos espaços, do trabalho e das vivências da comunidade local e contou com a participação de estudantes e diplomados do curso de Artes Visuais e Tecnologias (AVT) e Mediação Artística e Cultural (MAC), da Escola Superior de Educação (ESELx) do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa Através das práticas associadas à Street Art ou Community-Based Art foram propostas abordagens no âmbito das artes visuais e das artes performativas (música e teatro) a problemáticas locais que envolvem a transmissão da memória coletiva dos lugares ou do trabalho operário, tendo em conta a partilha de saberes sociais, criativos, técnicos, artísticos, bem como a expressão de intersubjetividades. Neste sentido, foram desenvolvidas as ligações entre a problemática da memória do trabalho industrial a deslocação das zonas rurais para os espaços urbanos e a construção coletiva das identidades ligadas aos lugares. O processo de trabalho articulou-se ainda com o projeto “Becos e Esquinas”, proposto pela associação L1B e envolveu a realização de um espetáculo multidisciplinar intitulado “Amanhã temos bom dia” e intervenções artísticas em espaço urbano.

Limosilactobacillus fermentum UCO-979C is a probiotic strain possessing anti-Helicobacter pylori and immunomodulatory activity. The aim of this work was to examine if this strain maintains its probiotic properties and its viability when added to dairy-based ice creams (cookies and cream, Greek yogurt, and chocolate with brownie) or to fruit-based ice creams (pineapple and raspberry) stored at −18 °C for 90 days. The probiotic anti-H. pylori activity using the well diffusion test, its immunomodulatory activity was measured using transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) cytokine production by human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS) cells, and its viability was measured using the microdrop technique. Assays were performed in triplicate. The L. fermentum UCO-979C strain maintained strong anti-H. pylori activity in dairy-based ice creams and mild activity in fruit-based ice cream. The production of pro-inflammatory cytokine TGF-β1 on AGS cells was higher in the probiotic recovered from Greek yogurt ice cream, maintaining a viability exceeding 107 colony-forming units/mL. The addition of the probiotic to ice creams did not significantly influence the physicochemical properties of the product. These data show the great potential of the L. fermentum UCO-979C strain in producing probiotic dairy-based and fruit-based ice creams.

Pregnane X receptor (PXR), a nuclear receptor known for modulating the transcription of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters (DMETs), such as cytochrome P450 3A4 and P-glycoprotein, is functionally involved in chronic liver diseases of different etiologies. Furthermore, PXR activity relates to that of other NRs, such as constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), through a crosstalk that in turn orchestrates a complex network of responses. Thus, besides regulating DMETs, PXR signaling is involved in both liver damage progression and repair and in the neoplastic transition to hepatocellular carcinoma. We here summarize the present knowledge about PXR expression and function in chronic liver diseases characterized by different etiologies and clinical outcome, focusing on the molecular pathways involved in PXR activity. Although many molecular details of these finely tuned networks still need to be fully understood, we conclude that PXR and its modulation could represent a promising pharmacological target for the identification of novel therapeutical approaches to chronic liver diseases.

In resource-limited settings, where pneumocystosis in immunocompromised patients is infrequently observed, cost-efficient, reliable, and sensitive approaches for the diagnostic identification of Pneumocystis jirovecii in human tissue samples are desirable. Here, an in-house fluorescence in situ hybridization assay was comparatively evaluated against Grocott’s staining as a reference standard with 30 paraffin-embedded tissue samples as well as against in-house real-time PCR with 30 respiratory secretions from immunocompromised patients with clinical suspicion of pneumocystosis. All pneumocystosis patients included in the study suffered from HIV/AIDS. Compared with Grocott’s staining as the reference standard, sensitivity of the FISH assay was 100% (13/13), specificity was 41% (7/17), and the overall concordance was 66.7% with tissue samples. With respiratory specimens, sensitivity was 83.3% (10/12), specificity was 100% (18/18), and the overall concordance was 93.3% as compared with real-time PCR. It remained unresolved to which proportions sensitivity limitations of Grocott’s staining or autofluorescence phenomena affecting the FISH assay accounted for the recorded reduced specificity with the tissue samples. The assessment confirmed Pneumocystis FISH in lung tissue as a highly sensitive screening approach; however, dissatisfying specificity in paraffin-embedded biopsies calls for confirmatory testing with other techniques in case of positive FISH screening results. In respiratory secretions, acceptable sensitivity and excellent specificity were demonstrated for the diagnostic application of the P. jirovecii-specific FISH assay.

Helicobacter pylori is capable of entering into yeast, but the factors driving this endosymbiosis remain unknown. This work aimed to determine if temperatures outside the optimal range for H. pylori increase its harboring within Candida. H. pylori strains were co-cultured with Candida strains in Brucella broth supplemented with 5% fetal bovine serum and incubated at 4, 25, 37 or 40 °C. After co-culturing, yeasts containing bacteria-like bodies (Y-BLBs) were observed by optical microscopy, and the bacterium were identified as H. pylori by FISH. The H. pylori 16S rRNA gene was amplified from the total DNA of Y-BLBs. The viability of intra-yeast H. pylori cells was confirmed using a viability assay. All H. pylori strains were capable of entering into all Candida strains assayed. The higher percentages of Y-BLBs are obtained at 40 °C with any of the Candida strains. H pylori also increased its harboring within yeast in co-cultures incubated at 25 °C when compared to those incubated at 37 °C. In conclusion, although H. pylori grew significantly at 40 °C, this temperature increased its harboring within Candida. The endosymbiosis between both microorganisms is strain-dependent and permits bacterial cells to remain viable under the stressing environmental conditions assayed.

Abstract Purpose: To analyze the effects of allopurinol and of post-conditioning on lung injuries induced by lower-limb ischemia and reperfusion. Methods: Thirty rats were used. They were divided in 5 groups: (1) group A: abdominal aortic dissection only, (2) group B: ischemia and reperfusion, (3) group C: administered allopurinol (100mg/Kg) a few hours before procedure, (4) group D: post-conditioned and (5) group E: administered allopurinol and post-conditioned. With the exception of group A, all groups were submitted to infrarenal aortic ischemia for 2 hours, and reperfusion for 72 hours. After euthanasia, lungs were removed for histological analysis. They were graded under two scores: pulmonary injury (neutrophil infiltration, interstitial edema, vascular congestion, and destruction of lung architecture) and lymphocytic score (neutrophil infiltration, lymphoid aggregate and secondary follicle). Results: On the pulmonary injury score, the degree of injury was smaller than in groups D and E, when compared to group B, p0,05). On the lymphocytic score, there was no statistic difference among groups, p>0.05. Conclusion: Both post-conditioning and the combination of allopurinol and post-conditioning were effective in remote lung protection induced by lower-limbs I/R. When used in isolation, allopurinol showed no protective effect.

The study aimed to diagnose the richness and abundance of fish and shrimp of commercial use in the complex of islands Cananéia-Iguape-Ilha, through interviews with fishermen. For the study, questionnaires were applied to fishermen located in the Port of Cubatão and surroundings. The questionnaire was structured in order to raise the angler identification data such as age and years of work in the fishing, fishing activities (fishing location, length of vessel, type of fishing equipment used), quantity, size, species caught, species presence with roe and accompanying fauna captured. At the end of the questionnaires was obtained a total of 28 respondents, over two starts in the month of July 2015. Data were tabulated in Microsoft ® Excel 2003 software. The species most frequently cited were Hake (24.53%) and Corvina (20.75%), and those most difficult to find were: Dogfish (32.35%) and shrimp (14.70%). The trash was quoted in 96.43% of the responses. Approximately 46.43% of respondents said capturing individuals of all sizes (calf, juvenile and adult). Regarding the accompanying fauna, cited as: jellyfish, seahorse, various mollusks, turtles, dolphin, starfish, sponge, penguin and birds. Therefore, it is concluded that the complex of islands, still preserving the richness of the fish fauna. However, some species such as Dogfish, Carcharhinus plumbeus, Shrimp, Penaeus sp. and Boto, Eurytium limosum; present evidence for the decrease in abundance in this ecosystem.

This mixed method research project sought to unveil pre-service EFL teachers’ perceptions about the collaborative writing of argumentative texts in a blended environment at a Chilean university, as well as their self-assessment of their performance during the process. Thirty-three senior students took part in a twelve-lesson workshop assisted by a file storage and synchronization service. Data collection included a semi-structured interview, a Likert-scale survey, and a tailor-made selfassessment rubric. Findings indicated that participants held positive perceptions of the collaborative process and were very satisfied with task evaluation, quality of interaction, and goal setting. The analysis also showed a significant correlation between the participants’ perceptions of collaboration and their performance self-assessment. The results suggested that blended collaborative writing should be considered in courses aimed at developing pre-service teachers’ EFL communicative competence.
