Living with chronic pain imposes a significant emotional burden, diminishing a person's emotional and cognitive abilities. Consequently, this research aimed to compare the impact of Intensive Short -Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Mindfulness -Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) on emotional cognitive regulation among chronic pain patients, with a two-month follow-up period. The clinical trial study was conducted in 2022 at the specialty and physiotherapy clinic of Imam Reza (AS) Hospital in Islamshahr City, Iran. Participants with chronic pain were selected through purposive accessible sampling and randomly assigned to three groups: ISTDP group, MBCT group, and a control group, each consisting of 15 individuals. To gather data, the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) by Garnevsky et al. (2002) was employed. The results indicated that both ISTDP and MBCT led to improvements in cognitive-emotional regulation scores, including acceptance, rumination, positive refocusing, refocusing on planning, positive reappraisal, and catastrophizing (P<0.05). These positive effects were observed during the follow-up stage as well. However, ISTDP did not significantly impact the self-blame component (P<0.05). Also, there was no statistically significant difference between ISTDP and MBCT in catastrophizing, positive refocusing, and positive reappraisal. However, MBCT demonstrated superior effectiveness in acceptance, rumination and refocusing on planning compared to ISTDP. In conclusion, both intensive short-term dynamic therapy (ISTDP) and cognitive mindfulness therapy (MBCT) can serve as sustainable interventions in healthcare centers to mitigate cognitive -emotional dysregulation in patients with chronic pain. Achieving the optimal Quality of Life (QoL) has been the expected outcome of all evolutionary periods in human life, including retirement. The present study aimed to determine the relationship between QoL, retirement resources, and retirement adjustment among retirees. This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 220 Iranian retirees who had been retired for 1–10 years. The study data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire, which was completed in person by 112 retirees and online using a WhatsApp or Telegram link by the rest. Pearson's correlation coefficient was utilized to determine the bivariate correlation between the study constructs. Additionally, multiple linear regression was used to assess the retirement resources predicting QoL and retirement adjustment. The study results revealed that the mean scores for retirement adjustment were not the same at different levels of education. Moreover, there was a significant positive relationship between retirement adjustment and retirement resources. A significant positive relationship was also observed between retirement resources, retirement adjustment, and QoL. In addition, mental and financial resources were assumed as better predictors of retirement adjustment, while physical resources could better forecast the QoL. The results indicated that having access to various resources during retirement could lead to a higher QoL and retirement adjustment among retirees. Therefore, paying much more attention to these results can help design interventions to gain access to different resources and improve retirement adjustment and QoL in these individuals. Polymers applications have been progressively increased in sciences and engineering including chemistry, pharmacology science, and chemical and petroleum engineering due to their attractive properties. Amongst the all types of polymers, partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide (HPAM) is one of the widely used polymers especially in chemistry, and chemical and petroleum engineering. Capability of solution viscosity increment of HPAM is the key parameter in its successful applications; thus, the viscosity of HPAM solution must be determined in any study. Experimental measurement of HPAM solution viscosity is time-consuming and can be expensive for elevated conditions of temperatures and pressures, which is not desirable for engineering computations. In this communication, Multilayer Perceptron neural network (MLP), Least Squares Support Vector Machine approach optimized with Coupled Simulated Annealing (CSA-LSSVM), Radial Basis Function neural network optimized with Genetic Algorithm (GA-RBF), Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System coupled with Conjugate Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization (CHPSO-ANFIS) approach, and Committee Machine Intelligent System (CMIS) were used to model the viscosity of HPAM solutions. Then, the accuracy and reliability of the developed models in this study were investigated through graphical and statistical analyses, trend prediction capability, outlier detection, and sensitivity analysis. As a result, it has been found that the MLP and CMIS models give the most reliable results with determination coefficients (R2) more than 0.98 and Average Absolute Relative Deviations (AARD) less than 4.0%. Finally, the suggested models in this study can be applied for efficient estimation of aqueous solutions of HPAM polymer in simulation of polymer flooding into oil reservoirs.

Background: Oral diseases are considered an important health challenge around the world, especially among children. This study aimed to compare the effects of mothers and students' education on female students' oral health behaviours. Methods: This three‐arm randomized controlled educational trial was conducted on 261 fifth‐ and sixth‐grade female students. The participants were selected and divided into two intervention groups (students' mothers and students) and a control group through simple random sampling. The intervention included four 60‐min and two 90‐min education sessions for the students and their mothers, respectively. The data were analysed using the SPSS 22 software. Results: The results revealed a significant increase in the mean scores of knowledge (p < 0.001), self‐efficacy (p = 0.038), and cues to action (p < 0.001) in the students' intervention group. However, in the students‐mothers' group the mean score of knowledge significantly increased (p < 0.001), and perceived barriers significantly decreased (p = 0.001). After the intervention, a significant difference was observed among the three study groups regarding the mean scores of knowledge (p < 0.001), perceived susceptibility (p = 0.005), perceived severity (p = 0.005), perceived benefits (p = 0.011), cues to action (p < 0.001) and brushing and flossing behaviours (p < 0.001). Conclusion: In this study, the mothers' education did not have any additional effects on the students' education. It seems that, in underprivileged communities where mothers had a low level of education, it might be better for oral health education to focus more on the students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of Health Belief Model-based education on determinants of intention to perform influenza prevention behaviors among the older adults. In this experimental controlled randomized study conducted on 100 rural older adults (50 in each group), four education sessions were conducted for the experiment group. Data were collected by a researcher who made the questionnaire, before and 2 months after intervention. The data were analyzed in SPSS 21. The level of significance was set at 0. 05. Two months after the intervention, the mean scores of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived barriers, and perceived benefits in the intervention group significantly changed (P <.001) but mean scores of cues to action perceived self-efficacy, and intention to perform influenza preventive measures did not change significantly. Only the intention to receive the vaccine and using a mask in the experimental group after intervention showed significant differences (p <.001). The finding suggests that the Health Belief Model can be a proper model to promote influenza prevention behaviors, especially vaccination and using masks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The extensive spread of COVID-19 all over the world has worried everyone. This pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, which has an envelope and is a positive-sense RNA. The virus causes mild-to-severe signs and symptoms in the patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between this virus and oxidative stress, which can worsen the conditions of cancer patients through some pivotal pathways. We utilize some international databases using keywords; COVID-19, neoplasm, and reactive oxygen species, and could attain interesting information about neoplasm, COVID-19, and oxidative stress. Based on the research, COVID-19 can induce some crucial routes, such as hypoxia-inducible factor-1a (HIF-1a) and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathways through overproduction of ROS. Although not proven, it is hypothesized that COVID-19 may enhance oxidative stress by inducing ROS-activated HIF-1a and NF-κB pathways in the cell, which subsequently can have a lot of disturbing effects on the body, and exacerbate the conditions of cancer patients. To conclude, understanding the precise molecular and cellular mechanisms of ROS-dependent HIF-1a and NF-κB pathways in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 can identify greater therapeutic and management strategies for COVID-19-infected cancer patients.
