Abstract: ObjectiveTo genotypically and phenotypically characterize a large pediatric myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) cohort to provide a solid frame of data for future evidence-based health management.MethodsAmong the 2,697 patients with genetically confirmed DM1 included in the French DM-Scope registry, children were enrolled between January 2010 and February 2016 from 24 centers. Comprehensive cross-sectional analysis of most relevant qualitative and quantitative variables was performed.ResultsWe studied 314 children (52% females, with 55% congenital, 31% infantile, 14% juvenile form). The age at inclusion was inversely correlated with the CTG repeat length. The paternal transmission rate was higher than expected, especially in the congenital form (13%). A continuum of highly prevalent neurodevelopmental alterations was observed, including cognitive slowing (83%), attention deficit (64%), written language (64%), and spoken language (63%) disorders. Five percent exhibited autism spectrum disorders. Overall, musculoskeletal impairment was mild. Despite low prevalence, cardiorespiratory impairment could be life-threatening, and frequently occurred early in the first decade (25.9%). Gastrointestinal symptoms (27%) and cataracts (7%) were more frequent than expected, while endocrine or metabolic disorders were scarce.ConclusionsThe pedDM-Scope study details the main genotype and phenotype characteristics of the 3 DM1 pediatric subgroups. It highlights striking profiles that could be useful in health care management (including transition into adulthood) and health policy planning.

Abstract: International audience; An environmental friendly process was developed to produce Arthrospira maxima's biomass from sugarcane vinasse, which was generated in a bioethanol production chain, at laboratory and pilot scale. Peptides fractions were than obtained from enzymatically hydrolyzed biomass. High microalgae biomass productivities were reached (0.150 g L-1day-1) coupled with a significant reduction of BOD and COD (89.2 and 81%, respectively). Three peptide fractions were obtained from microalgae biomass through single or sequential enzymatic hydrolysis. Antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and/or anti-collagenase activities of biopetides’ fractions were observed. The PHS showed multi-biological activities. The three peptides fractions could be potential candidates for different applications in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry.

Abstract: Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate muscular metabolic function in children with inactive juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Methods: Fifteen children with inactive JIA and fifteen healthy controls were matched by sex, biological age, and Tanner stage. Participants completed a submaximal incremental exercise test to determine their fat and carbohydrate oxidation rates. Results: Between the two groups, heart rate values and carbohydrate oxidation rates were the same, regardless of the relative intensity of exercise. Lipid oxidation rates were lower in JIA patients, regardless of the percentage of VO2 peak (p < 0.05). Respiratory exchange ratios beyond 50% of VO2 peak were higher in patients with JIA (p < 0.05). Respective maximal fat oxidation rates (MFO) for controls and children with JIA were 218.7 +/- 92.2 vs. 157.5 +/- 65.9 mg . min(-1) (p = 0.03) and 4.9 +/- 1.9 vs. 3.4 +/- 1.2 mg . min(-1) . kg(-1) (p = 0.04). There was no difference between the two groups in heart rate, percentage of VO2 peak, or power of exercise to achieve MFO. Controls reached their MFO at an exercise power significantly higher than did JIA subjects (42.8 +/- 16.8 and 31.9 +/- 9.8 W, p = 0.004). Conclusion: Children with JIA show metabolic disturbance during exercise, even when the disease is considered inactive. This disturbance is seen in a lower lipid oxidation rate during submaximal exercise.

Abstract: Research on marine microalgae has been abundantly published and patented these last years leading to the production and/or the characterization of some biomolecules such as pigments, proteins, enzymes, biofuels, polyunsaturated fatty acids, enzymes and hydrocolloids. This literature focusing on metabolic pathways, structural characterization of biomolecules, taxonomy, optimization of culture conditions, biorefinery and downstream process is often optimistic considering the valorization of these biocompounds. However, the accumulation of knowledge associated with the development of processes and technologies for biomass production and its treatment has sometimes led to success in the commercial arena. In the history of the microalgae market, red marine microalgae are well positioned particularly for applications in the field of high value pigment and hydrocolloid productions. This review aims to establish the state of the art of the diversity of red marine microalgae, the advances in characterization of their metabolites and the developments of bioprocesses to produce this biomass.

Abstract: International audience; Analogue physics became very popular in recent decades. It allows simulating inaccessible physical phenomena, such as black holes, in the laboratory. The first success of analogue physics is in fact much older being due to Maxwell, who derived his equations for the electromagnetic field by analogy with fluid dynamics in presence of vortices. Here we propose to use vortices for analogue gravity. We implement an acoustic Kerr black hole with quantized angular momentum in a Bose-Einstein condensate. We show that the condensate's metric is equivalent to the Kerr's one, exhibiting a horizon and an ergosphere. We confirm that this metric is obeyed not only by weak density waves, but also by quantum vortices which behave as massive test particles. We use these topological defects to demonstrate a quantum Penrose effect, extracting the rotation energy of the black hole by quanta of angular momentum. The particle trajectories are well described by the timelike geodesics of the Kerr metric, confirming the potential of analogue quantum gravity.

Abstract: Au-catalyzed growth of GaAs nanowires by HVPE technique has been demonstrated in Institut Pascal many years ago on GaAs substrates. However, the current trend is to integrate these nanowires on silicon substrates, which appears to be very useful for some applications. It is the subject of the present work to develop such process using HVPE which an exceptional length along with very good crystalline quality of nanowires. This manuscript is organized into three chapters. Chapter I is devoted to present the experimental process allowing to obtain such nanowires on Si(111) substrates by Au-catalyzed. It contains also a study of the dewetting of ultra-thin gold films on oxidized Si(111) substrates as function of different parameters, in which we show also by in-situ LEEM and LEED experiments how these droplets remove the SiO2 from the surface and pump silicon atoms from the substrate. The influence of these silicon atoms on the nucleation of GaAs nanowires is presented in chapter II through a thermodynamic model. Another model is also presented in the same chapter in which we study the incorporation of the amphoteric silicon atoms in the solid phase as function of different growth parameters. Chapter III consists in an investigation of charge and spin transport using a polarized µPL experiment on ultra-long GaAs nanowires produced by HVPE. We study the effect of the surface passivation of these nanowires by hydrazine solution and N2-palsma. We report record diffusion lengths for both charge and spin., Alors que la croissance par HVPE de nanofils GaAs est bien maitrisée à l'Institut Pascal sur substrat de GaAs, quant à elle, la croissance sur substrats de silicium reste un sujet à développer. Dans ce travail, nous proposons dans le chapitre I un procédés expérimental permettant d'obtenir des nanofils de GaAs sur substrat de Si(111) par la voie VLS catalysée Au, accompagnés de structures larges appelées écailles. Ce procédé doit être optimiser si un rapport nanofils/écailles plus élevé est souhaité. Nous avons démontré par in-situ LEEM et LEED que les gouttelettes catalyseurs d'Au désoxydent la surface du substrat de Si(111) à haute températures (700 °C) et pompent des atomes de silicium du substrat. L'influence de ces atomes sur la nucléation des nanofils GaAs est étudiée par un modèle thermodynamique présenté dans le chapitre II. Aussi dans le même chapitre, nous présentons une étude de l'incorporation de ces atomes amphotériques de silicium dans le solide GaAs en fonction des paramètres de croissance. Le chapitre III consiste en une investigation du transport de charge et de spin par µPL polarisée dans les nanofils obtenus. Nous avons trouvé des longueurs de diffusion record à basse température dans des nanofils passivés à l'hydrazine et par N2-plasma.

Abstract: International audience; In this study, the Virtual Fields Method (VFM) is applied to identify constitutive parameters of hyperelastic models from a heterogeneous test. Digital image correlation (DIC) was used to estimate the displacement and strain fields required by the identification procedure. Two different hyperelastic models were considered: the Mooney model and the Ogden model. Applying the VFM to the Mooney model leads to a linear system that involves the hyperelastic parameters thanks to the linearity of the stress with respect to these parameters. In the case of the Ogden model, the stress is a nonlinear function of the hyperelastic parameters and a suitable procedure should be used to determine virtual fields leading to the best identification. This complicates the identification and affects its robustness. This is the reason why the sensitivity-based virtual field approach recently proposed in case of anisotropic plasticity by Marek et al. (Comput Mech 60(3):409–431, 2017) has been successfully implemented to be applied in case of hyperelasticity. Results obtained clearly highlight the benefits of such an inverse identification approach in case of non-linear systems.

Abstract: International audience; A chemical modification by grafting alkyl chains using an octanal (C8) on chitosan was conducted with the aim to improve its water resistance for bonding applications. The chemical structure of the modified polymers was determined by NMR analyses revealing two alkylation degrees (10 and 15%). In this study, the flow properties of alkyl-chitosans were also evaluated. An increase in the viscosity was observed in alkyl-chitosan solutions compared with solutions of the same concentration based on native chitosan. Moreover, the evaluation of the adhesive strength (bond strength and shear stress) of both native and alkyl-chitosans was performed on two different double-lap adherends (aluminum and wood). Alkyl-chitosans (10 and 15%) maintain sufficient adhesive properties on wood and exhibit better water resistance compared to native chitosan.

Abstract: Background The effects of physical activity (PA) in disease prevention and therapy have well-known effects on lower-limb osteoarthritis (OA), decreasing pain and improving function. Objective We aimed to describe the level and factors affecting PA practices of people with knee OA. Design Prospective epidemiological study. Setting In all, 548 people with knee OA were interviewed by use of self-administered anonymous questionnaires. Main outcome measurement The main outcome was physical activity level evaluated by the International physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) (short version). Secondary outcomes included sociodemographic and clinical data, comorbidities, and barriers to and facilitators of practicing regular PA evaluated by 24 specific elements. Results The mean (SD) age of the study population was 67.6 (7.9) years; 73.9% were women and 30.9% had obesity (mean [SD] body mass index [BMI] 28.2 [5.7] kg/m2). Multi-joint OA affected 92% of the population, and 71.6% had comorbidities. The mean (SD) visual analog scale score for pain intensity was 4.5/10 (2.5), which was 51.4% better than the patient acceptable symptom state (PASS). The mean (SD) Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index function score was 36.6/100 (20.7), which was 57.5% better than the PASS. In total, 67% of patients used analgesics, half of them at least once a week. According to the IPAQ, 42.6% of patients reported high, 38.6% moderate, and 18.8% low PA level; the median IPAQ total activity score was 2628 metabolic equivalent of task (MET)-min/week and time spent sitting was 257.1 min/day. Only one third of participants received non-pharmacological treatment corresponding to the latest recommendations. Variables significantly related to inactive or minimally active PA levels were BMI (P = 0.0294), sex (P = 0.0008), and biomedical barriers, related to self-efficacy (P = 0.0118). Abstract: International audience; Artificial gauge fields, simulating real phenomenologies that unfold in a vast variety of systems, offer extraordinary possibilities to study extreme physical effects in many different environments, from high energy physics to quantum mechanics and cosmology. They are also at the heart of topological physics. Here, exploiting a strongly anisotropic material under strong coupling regime, we experimentally synthesize a Yang-Mills non-Abelian gauge field acting on an exciton-polariton quantum flow like a magnetic field. We observe experimentally the corresponding curved trajectories and spin precession. This motion follows chromodynamics equations which normally describe the quarks strong interactions and their color. Our work therefore opens exciting perspectives of simulating quark-gluon dynamics using highly flexible photonic simulators. It makes of sub-atomic physics a potential new playground to apply topological physics concepts.

Abstract: Wood ensures the mechanical stability of the trunk and branches. Its formation is impacted by windy environments: living cells sense mechanical strains and modify the formation of wood accordingly in terms of quantity and quality: these biological responses are called “Thigmomorphogenesis”. We bent young poplars three times a day, five days per week during six months. When a stem is bent, wood endures compressive and/or tensile stresses. Our objective is to determine the impact of these growing conditions on the mechanical properties of wood.

Abstract: Le projet RUMO vise à améliorer la durabilité des résineux bois aux chargements Thermo-Visco-Hydro-Mécanosorptifs (TVHM). Ce matériau présente un fort potentiel en termes d’exploitation des ressources et d’emplois. Cependant son utilisation en structure est limitée par le caractère viscoélastique orthotrope du bois et l’apparition de fissures complexes lors de l’humidification et du séchage. Il faut donc développer des modèles analytiques, numériques et expérimentaux de suivi de fissuration 3D, car les méthodes actuelles sont limitées aux cas surfaciques 2D. Le projet va favoriser les collaborations entre équipes françaises, la valorisation de la ressource en bois et le transfert de connaissances vers les industriels du bois.

Les recherches portent actuellement sur la diffusion de l’eau dans des échantillons de bois de différentes espèces et présentant des formes variées (cylindriques, parallélépipédiques, autres...), la modélisation de la teneur en eau à l’équilibre (EMC) sous diverses conditions atmosphériques, la mesure des coefficients de retrait et gonflement du bois au cours de changement de teneur en eau, et la validation d’un modèle de diffusion en utilisant l’imagerie TéraHertz (THz).

Abstract: Polyphenylene Sulfide polymers were used to fabricate microwave devices. This printable material was compared to a standard Acrilonytrile Butadiene Styrene. Heat treatments were used to evaluate their maximum operating temperatures. K-band rectangular waveguides were fabricated and characterized in order to evaluate a plating process compatible with this polymer. Thermal stability was investigated by measurement of a resonator. The measured variation of resonance frequency versus temperature is less than 1% between room temperature and 160°C. This thermal stable, chemical resistant printable material appears to be suitable for the realization of heat-resistant 3D printed devices.

Abstract: International audience; Water movement and diffusion in wood is a well-documented research topic. It is strongly linked to the physical and mechanical properties of wood, and thus it has a high degree of importance and prominence for real-life application, particularly in wood drying. Here we employed the terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and imaging techniques to study the diffusion of water in wood. For our first experiments, we used balsa, a species of wood with a relatively homogenous structure (at the tissue level) and a low density that turns into fast diffusion rates and low absorption of the terahertz beam. This enables us to conduct several consecutive observations from various conditions (angles, diffusion directions, etc.) in a short time. These preliminary studies confirm the feasibility of terahertz spectroscopy and imaging techniques as a tool to observe the water diffusion in wood as a function of the direction (Fig. 1). We have also measured the evolution of the attenuation coefficient of the terahertz beam on wet and drying wood at different times. A model of the diffusion behavior based on these measurements, and according to the water content, will be developed and compared with other conventional water diffusion models based on gravimetry methods for the identification of the diffusion coefficients.

Abstract: Various procedures can promote hypertrophy of the future liver remnant (FLR) before major hepatectomy to prevent postoperative liver failure. The pathophysiological situation following portal vein embolization (PVE), hepatic artery ligation/embolization or hepatectomy remains unclear. On one hand, the main mechanisms of hepatic regeneration appear to be driven by hepatic hypoxia (involving the hepatic arterial buffer response), an increased portal blood flow inducing shear stress and the involvement of several mediators (inflammatory cytokines, vasoregulators, growth factors, eicosanoids and several hormones). On the other hand, several factors are associated with impaired liver regeneration, such as biliary obstruction, malnutrition, diabetes mellitus, male gender, age, ethanol and viral infection. All these mechanisms may explain the varying degrees of hypertrophy observed following a surgical or radiological procedure promoting hypertrophy the FLR. Radiological procedures include left and right portal vein embolization (extended or not to segment 4), sequential PVE and hepatic vein embolization (HVE), and more recently combined PVE and HVE. Surgical procedures include associated liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, and more recently the combined portal embolization and arterial ligation procedure. This review aimed to clarify the pathophysiology of liver regeneration; it also describes radiological or surgical procedures employed to improve liver regeneration in terms of volumetric changes, the feasibility of the second step and the benefits and drawbacks of each procedure.

The proposed solution considers every static or mobile object as beacons with contextual information. A beacon-to-beacon measurement is performed using UWB sensors and the position estimation is computed by the target beacon. This strategy allows to hide the cooperative localization problem behind these measurements. The fusion algorithm is based on a Split Intersection Covariance Filter which allows to correctly handle the correlation between the poses estimations of the beacons. We present the consistency of this solution using a simulation with 3 robots and 4 static beacons and a real experimentation with 1 robot and 3 static beacons.

We focus in this paper on the topic of localizing such a robot into an absolute and imprecise map. We propose a multi-sensor self-localization method, which is simultaneously able to operate with an imprecise map, as well as to improve the precision of an already existing one. The method uses split covariance intersection filter as well as an a priori selection of the best informative measurements out of all possible measurement sources at each time step. This selection scheme is based on an "added Shannon information" based criterion. We demonstrate in operation via statistical analysis the consistency of a refined map obtained from a biased map while keeping vehicle localization integrity. On top of this, we demonstrate solving of the so-called kidnapped-robot problem using the same framework.

Abstract: In this short note, we generalized the Tangential Cover used in Digital Geometry in order to use very general geometric predicates. We present the required notions of saturated α-paths of a digital curve as well as conservative predicates which indeed cover nearly all geometric digital primitives published so far. The goal of this note is to prove that under a very general situation, the size of the Tangential Cover is linear with the number of points of the input curve. The computation complexity of the Tangential Cover depends on the complexity of incremental recognition of geometric predicates. Moreover, in the discussion, we show that our approach does not rely on connectivity of points as it might be though first.

However, when simulating on a PC or workstation , the custom bit-level structures of inexact operators are not implemented in the instruction set of the simulating architecture. Consequently, the simulation requires a costly emulation, leading to expensive bit-level simulations. This paper proposes a new "Fast and Fuzzy" functional simulation method for inexact operators whose probabilistic behavior is correlated with the Most Significant Bits of the input operands. The proposed method processes real signal data and simplifies the error model for inexact operators, accelerating the simulation of the system. The modelization accuracy of the error can be controlled by a parameter called fuzzyness degree F. Using the proposed method, the bit-accurate logic-level simulation of inexact operators is replaced by an exact operator to which a pseudo-random error variable is added. Experiments on 16-bit operators show that the proposed simulation method, when compared to a bit-accurate logic level simulation, is up to 44 times faster.

Abstract: [ADD1_IRSTEA]Équiper l'agriculture; International audience; In this paper, the problem associated with accurate control of a two-wheel steering mobile robot following a path is addressed thanks to a backstepping control strategy. This approach involves an observer to estimate the grip conditions, based on previous work, and the proposed control algorithm for the front axle. Since the significant parameters of the grip conditions are available from the observer, namely the sideslip angles and the cornering stiffnesses, it is then suitable to include them into an algorithm to control mobile robots and obtain a more accurate path tracking. This is made possible by gathering into a single backstepping approach both kinematic and dynamic models. This new point of view permits to take account of both kinematic and dynamic behaviors and grip parameters in the control law. The proposed approach is experimentally evaluated at different speeds and compared with two other state-of-the-art path tracking algorithms and evaluated for several values of lateral deviations.

Abstract: International audience; L'estimation de la durée de vie des structures à base de bois est affectée par plusieurs sources d'incertitude liées aux variations climatiques et aux propriétés du matériau. La visualisation non destructive par microtomographie à rayons X (µCT), permet de caractériser les micros-endommagements qui surviennent lorsque les capacités de résistance locales du matériau sont dépassées. Le but de cette étude consiste à déterminer avec précision la position du front de la fissure et à mesurer des valeurs des taux de restitution d'énergie le long du front issu de la corrélation numérique d'images 3D. Un traitement statistique des cartes de micros-fissurations basé sur la densité spatiale d'endommagement est proposé dans le but de reconstruire le profil de fissuration du bois.

Abstract: To ensure continuous innovations, food industries need tools which enable to predict physical-properties of food during a change of process or recipe. In this work, a thermodynamic model is suggested to predict pH and water activity of pork meat in presence of different additives such as salts or organic acids used in food industry. The predictions of pH and aw are satisfactory in a wide prediction domain, with a good accuracy. In add, a neural network mimetic of thermodynamic model is developed in order to facilitate the use of thermodynamic model and reduce calculation time.

Abstract: International audience; BACKGROUND: The objective was to examine the role of a sustained virological response (SVR) on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with compensated hepatitis C virus (HCV) cirrhosis.METHODS: Patients with the following criteria were enrolled in 35 French centers: (1) biopsy-proven HCV cirrhosis; (2) Child-Pugh A; (3) positive viremia; and (4) no prior liver complication, and then prospectively followed. All patients received HCV treatment after inclusion. MACEs included stroke, myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, cardiac arrest, and cardiovascular death. SVR, defined as negative viremia 12 weeks posttreatment, was considered as a time-dependent covariate, and its effect on MACE occurrence was assessed. The median follow up was 57.5 months, ending in December 2015.RESULTS: Sixty-two of 878 (7.1%) patients presented a total of 79 MACEs. The main predictive baseline factors of MACEs were Asian ethnic origin, history of MACEs, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, current smoking, low serum albumin level, high total bilirubin level, and low platelet count. In multivariate analysis, SVR was associated with a decreased risk of MACEs (hazard ratio=0.35, 95% CI 0.09-0.97, P=.044), whereas Asian ethnic origin, arterial hypertension, smoking, and low serum albumin level remained predictive of MACE occurrence. The 5-year survival rate was 60.1% versus 87.5% in patients who did versus those who did not present a MACE (PCONCLUSIONS: In patients with compensated HCV-related cirrhosis, Asian ethnic origin, arterial hypertension, smoking, and low serum albumin are independent predictive factors of cardiovascular events, whereas an SVR is associated with a decreased rate of cardiovascular events.

Abstract: International audience; IntroductionSynchrotron Radiation X-ray Phase Computed Tomography (SR-PCT) of brain tissue can reveal different image contrast depending on sample preparation. Indeed, we have shown that ethanol dehydration of brain samples reveals myelin as a hyper-intense signal while maintaining optimal detection of packed proteinaceous structures such as amyloid plaques [1]. The present work builds on this versatile “virtual histology” tool to characterize amyloid deposits in brain samples from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) animal models and patients.MethodsMono, bi-, and triple transgenic lines of mouse (PDAPP, APP-PS1, 3xTg [2]) were studied, along with one line of transgenic rats [3]. Human samples of frontal cortex were obtained from 6 sporadic AD cases and 1 familial AD case (Cardiobiotec, CRB-HCL, Lyon, France). All samples were scanned after dehydration in ethanol on beamlines ID19 and ID17 at ESRF. In line propagation imaging was performed at 26keV, voxel size of 6.5μm and 3m free space propagation on ID19 (34 keV, 6.5µm and 11m on ID17). Images were reconstructed using Paganin’s method [4].Results/DiscussionAll transgenic animal brains (Fig. 1) and human AD (Fig. 2) cases exhibited amyloid signals in the form of bright spots. Myelin-based hyper-intensities enabled a detailed visualisation of white-matter tracts and subsequent structural connectivity. Additionally, vessels appeared hypo-intense in perfused brains from animals (Fig.1) and hyper-intense in human autopsic brains (Fig. 2), probably because of the presence of blood-related iron in non-perfused tissue. Concurrent immunofluorescence analyses of these observations are in progress.ConclusionsWhole-brain mouse acquisitions were performed faster (3-10 min) than previously described phase contrast approaches [5]. Human amyloid plaques were evidenced for the first time by SR-PCT. Dehydration-added myelin contrast may be used to highlight unexplored associations between amyloid deposition and myelin alterations.References[1] Rositi et al. Abstract: International audience; According to some studies, extragenital endometriosis represents 5% of the localisations. Its prevalence seems to be underestimated. The extra pelvic localisation can make the diagnosis more difficult. Nevertheless, the recurrent and catamenial symptomatology can evoke this pathology. Surgery seems to be the unique efficient treatment for parietal lesions. Pain linked to nervous lesions (peripheric and sacral roots) seems to be underestimated and difficult to diagnose because of various localisations. Neurolysis seems to have encouraging results. Diaphragmatic lesions are often discovered either incidentally during laparoscopy, or by pulmonary symptomatology as recurrent catamenial pneumothorax or cyclic thoracic pain. Surgical treatment seems as well to be efficient.

Abstract: First-line investigations to diagnose endometriosis are clinical examination and pelvic ultrasound. Second-line investigations include pelvic examination performed by a referent clinician, transvaginal ultrasound performed by a referent echographist, and pelvic MRI. It is recommended to treat endometriosis when it is symptomatic. First-line hormonal treatments recommended for the management of painful endometriosis are combined with hormonal contraceptives or levonorgestrel 52mg IUD. There is no evidence to recommend systematic preoperative hormonal therapy for the unique purpose of preventing the risk of surgical complications or facilitating surgery. After endometriosis surgery, combined hormonal contraceptives or levonorgestrel SIU 52mg are recommended as first-line therapy in the absence of desire of pregnancy. In case of initial treatment failure, recurrence, or multiple organ involvement by endometriosis, medico-surgical and multidisciplinary discussion is recommended. The laparoscopic approach is recommended for the surgical treatment of endometriosis. HRT may be offered in postmenopausal women operated for endometriosis. In case of infertility related to endometriosis, it is not recommended to prescribe anti-gonadotropic hormone therapy to increase the rate of spontaneous pregnancy, including postoperatively. The possibilities of fertility preservation should be discussed with the patient in case of surgery for ovarian endometrioma.

Abstract: The management of endometriosis related infertility requires a global approach. In this context, the prescription of an anti-gonadotropic hormonal treatment does not increase the rate of non-ART (assisted reproductive technologies) pregnancies and it is not recommended. In case of endometriosis related infertility, the results of IVF management in terms of pregnancy and birth rates are not negatively affected by the existence of endometriosis. Controlled ovarian stimulation during IVF does not increase the risk of endometriosis associated symptoms worsening, nor accelerate the intrinsic progression of endometriosis and does not increase the rate of recurrence. However, in the context of IVF management for women with endometriosis, pre-treatment with GnRH agonist or with oestrogen/progestin contraception improve IVF outcomes. There is currently no evidence of a positive or negative effect of endometriosis surgery on IVF outcomes. Information on the possibilities of preserving fertility should be considered, especially before surgery.

Abstract: Minimal and mild endometriosis (stage 1 and 2 AFSR) can lead to chronic pelvic pain and infertility but can also exist in asymptomatic patients. The prevalence of asymptomatic patients with minimal and mild endometriosis is not clear but typical endometriosis lesions are found in about 5 to 10% of asymptomatic women and more than 50% of painful and/or infertile women. Laparoscopic treatment of minimal and mild endometriotic lesions is justified in case of pelvic pain because their destruction decrease significatively the pain compared with diagnostic laparoscopy alone. In this context, ablation and excision give identical results in terms of pain reduction. Moreover, literature shows no interest in uterine nerve ablation in case of dysmenorrhea due to minimal and mild endometriosis. Then, it is recommended to treat these lesions during a laparoscopy realised as part of pelvic pain. On the other hand, it is not recommended to treat asymptomatic patients. With regard to treatment of minimal and mild endometriosis in infertile patients, only two studies can be selected and both show that laparoscopy with excision or ablation and ablation of adhesions is superior to diagnostic laparoscopy alone in terms of pregnancy rate. However, it is not recommended to treat these lesions when they are asymptomatic because there is no evidence that they can progress with symptomatic disease. There is no study assessing the interest to treat these lesions when they are found fortuitously. Adhesion barrier utilisation permits to reduce post-operative adhesions, however literature failed to demonstrate the clinical profit in terms of reduction of the risk of pain or infertility.

Abstract: International audience; BackgroundMagnetic resonance entero-colonography enables accurate assessment of ileocolonic Crohn's disease, but the need for bowel cleansing and rectal enema limits considerably its use in daily practice. AimWe evaluated the accuracy of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance entero-colonography with neither bowel cleansing nor rectal enema to assess endoscopic activity. MethodsForty-four Crohn's disease patients underwent prospectively and consecutively diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance entero-colonography [with apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and Clermont score calculation] and ileocolonoscopy [with Crohn's Disease Endoscopic Index of Severity (CDEIS) and Simplified Endoscopic score for Crohn's Disease (SES-CD) calculation]. ResultsMean ADC was inversely correlated with total CDEIS (=-0.40; P=0.0067) and total SES-CD (=-0.33; P=0.032). Considering the 194 segments, ADC was inversely correlated with segmental CDEIS (-0.48; P18.9 detected ulcerations with sensitivity=0.79 and specificity=0.73. ConclusionDiffusion-weighted magnetic resonance entero-colonography using apparent diffusion coefficient and Clermont score was effective to indirectly detect endoscopic ulcerations in ileocolonic Crohn's disease.

Abstract: International audience; In this study, a specific fraction of food waste, i.e. depackaging waste, was studied as substrate for hydrogen production by dark fermentation. During storage and transport of this liquid mixture, inhibitory compounds like acids or alcohol might be produced by endogenous flora. A factorial fractional design based on the composition of the substrate was used to determine the best condition to convert this substrate into hydrogen. First results indicated that the consortium used might convert high quantity of lactate into hydrogen. A batch culture confirmed that lactate was used as the main carbon source and a global yield of 0.4mol H2 ·mol lactate −1 was obtained. This study demonstrated the ability of the consortium tested to convert different carbon sources (carbohydrates or lactate) with good efficiency. These data represented an important parameter in the prospect of using an industrial substrate whose composition is liable to vary according to the conditions of storage and transport.

Abstract: We report polariton lasing in localised gap states in a honeycomb lattice of coupled micropillars. Localisation of the modes is induced by the optical potential created by the excitation beam, requiring no additional engineering of the otherwise homogeneous polariton lattice. The spatial shape of the gap states arises from the interplay of the orbital angular momentum eigenmodes of the cylindrical potential created by the excitation beam and the hexagonal symmetry of the underlying lattice. Abstract: International audience; The diameter growth of trees occurs by the progressive deposition of new wood layers at the stem periphery. These wood layers are submitted to at least two kinds of mechanical loads: maturation stress induced in wood during its formation , and the effect of the increasing self-weight. Interaction between growth and these loads causes mechanical stress with a particular distribution within the stem, called growth stresses. Growth stresses have technical consequences, such as cracks and deformations of lumber occurring during sawing, and biological consequences through their effect on stem strength. The first model for computing the field of stress inside a growing stem was set long ago by Kübler. Here, we extend these analytical formulations to cases with heterogeneous wood properties, eccentricity and bending stresses. Simulated profiles show reasonable agreement with measured profiles of released strains in logs. The particular shape of these profiles has consequences on stem bending strength. During bending in response to transient loads such as wind, most of the load is supported by outer parts of a stem cross section. The tensile maturation stress at this level increases the bending strength of the stem by delaying compression failure. Compressive stress in reaction to this tension does not reduce the bending strength because it is located near the centre of the stem and thus not loaded during bending, except if growth is strongly eccentric. Permanent bending stresses are concentrated at the mid-radius of the section, so that they do not cumulate with above-mentioned sources of stress. This smart distribution of stresses makes it possible that the stem is stronger than the wood it is made of, and that a growing stem can bend considerably more than its non-growing beam equivalent without breaking.

Abstract: We study the role of the quantum geometric tensor (QGT) in the evolution of two-band quantum systems. We show that all its components play an important role on the extra phase acquired by a spinor and on the trajectory of an accelerated wave packet in any realistic finite-duration experiment. While the adiabatic phase is determined by the Berry curvature (the imaginary part of the tensor), the nonadiabaticity is determined by the quantum metric (the real part of the tensor). We derive, for geodesic trajectories (corresponding to acceleration from zero initial velocity), the semiclassical equations of motion with nonadiabatic corrections. The particular case of a planar microcavity in the strong coupling regime allows us to extract the QGT components by direct light polarization measurements and to check their effects on the quantum evolution.

Abstract: Aims: A new coronary bifurcation provisional stenting technique without kissing balloon, rePOT, associating the proximal optimisation technique (POT), side branch inflation and final POT, showed excellent mechanical results in a bench test. The present study sought to use optical coherence tomography (OCT) to quantify the mechanical results of rePOT in vivo in a large patient sample with complex coronary bifurcations. Methods and results: A total of 106 patients with coronary bifurcations were included in a multicentre prospective registry (left main, 40.6%; true Medina bifurcation, 39.6%). Three OCT runs were performed, at baseline, just after stent implantation and after the complete rePOT sequence, quantifying global malapposition, side branch obstruction (SBO), and various geometric arterial criteria. RePOT was completed systematically. RePOT significantly reduced global strut malapposition from 18.9 +/- 13.4% just after stent implantation to 3.2 +/- 3.9% (p\textless0.05), residual SBO from 44.3 +/- 12.9% to 17.0 +/- 14.3% (p\textless0.05), and ellipticity index from 1.19 +/- 0.11 to 1.13 +/- 0.12 (p\textless0.05). Exhaustive six-month follow-up found only one mother-vessel target lesion revascularisation. Conclusions: This clinical study of a large sample of complex coronary bifurcations with OCT analysis showed the benefit of the rePOT sequence in provisional stenting, replicating in vivo the excellent in vitro geometric results previously reported, and confirming ease of implementation and medium-term safety.

Abstract: 2. International Conference on Alternative Fuels and Energy (ICAFE) ; Daegu (Corée (Populaire)) - (2017-10-23 - 2017-10-25) / Conférence; Studies of the effects of electromagnetic waves on Saccharomyces cerevisiae emphasize the need to develop instrumented experimental systems ensuring a characterization of the exposition level to enable unambiguous assessment of their potential effects on living organisms. A bioreactor constituted with two separate compartments has been designed. The main element (75% of total volume) supporting all measurement and control systems (temperature, pH, agitation, and aeration) is placed outside the exposure room whereas the secondary element is exposed to irradiation. Measurements of the medium dielectric properties allow the determination of the electromagnetic field at any point inside the irradiated part of the reactor and are consistent with numerical simulations. In these conditions, the growth rate of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and the ethanol yield in aerobic conditions are not significantly modified when submitted to an electromagnetic field of 900 and 2400 MHz with an average exposition of 6.11 V.m−1 and 3.44 V.m−1 respectively.

Abstract: Reduction of fuel consumption is an indispensable part of automotive industry in recent years. This induces several developments of hybrid vehicles with different structures. This paper deals with reliable and robust energy management strategy for a hybrid hydraulic-electric intelligent vehicle. The main objective of this paper is the development of a suboptimal control strategy based on fuzzy logic and neural network for minimizing total energy consumption while ensuring a better battery life. For this purpose, fuzzy supervisory fault management, which can detect and compensate the battery faults, regulates all of the possible vehicle's operation modes. Then, control strategy based on fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is developed. The FLC membership function parameters are tuned by employing neural network to manage power distribution between electric motor and internal combustion engine (ICE). Control strategy is switched between optimized FLCs to enhance the suboptimal power split between the different energy sources and manage the ICE to work always in the vicinity of its optimal condition. Finally, a robust fuzzy tuning controllers are investigated to give a good torque set point tracking. Simulation results, while using TruckMaker/MATLAB software, confirm that the proposed approach leads to suboptimal energy consumption of the vehicle for any unknown driving cycles and compensate battery faults effects.

Abstract: International audience; Background: Appropriate information about the benefits and risks of invasive procedures is crucial, but limited data is available in this field. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incremental value of a short video about coronary angiography compared with standard information, in terms of patient understanding, satisfaction and anxiety. Methods: This prospective multicenter study included patients admitted for scheduled coronary angiography, who were randomized to receive either standard information or video information by watching a three-dimensional educational video. After information was delivered, patients were asked to complete a dedicated 16-point information questionnaire, as well as satisfaction and anxiety scales. Results: From 21 September to 4 October 2015, 821 consecutive patients were randomized to receive either standard information (n = 415) or standard information with an added educational video (n = 406). The information score was higher in the video information group than in the standard group (11.8 +/- 2.8 vs 9.5 +/- 3.1; P \textless .001). This result was consistent across age and education level subgroups. Self-reported satisfaction was also higher in the video information group (8.4 +/- 1.9 vs. 7.7 +/- 2.3; P \textless .001), while anxiety level did not differ between groups. The variables associated with a higher information score were the use of the educational video, younger age, higher level of education, previous follow-up by a cardiologist, prior information about coronary angiography and previous coronary angiography. Conclusions: In comparison with standard information, viewing a dedicated educational video improved patients' understanding and satisfaction before scheduled coronary angiography. These results are in favor of widespread use of this incremental information tool. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract: International audience; This book provides important insights into the operating principles of plants by highlighting the relationship between structure and function. It describes the quantitative determination of structural and mechanical parameters, such as the material properties of a tissue, in correlation with specific features, such as the ability of the tissue to conduct water or withstand bending forces, which will allow advanced analysis in plant biomechanics. This knowledge enables researchers to understand the developmental changes that occur in plant organs over their life span and under the influence of environmental factors. The authors provide an overview of the state of the art of plant structure and function and how they relate to the mechanical behavior of the organism, such as the ability of plants to grow against the gravity vector or to withstand the forces of wind. They also show the sophisticated strategies employed by plants to effect organ movement and morphogenesis in the absence of muscles or cellular migration. As such, this book not only appeals to scientists currently working in plant sciences and biophysics, but also inspires future generations to pursue their own research in this area.

Abstract: We demonstrate the benefit of an original vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanostructuration on the electrochemical performances. A new synthesis way consists in a facile fluorination reaction in aqueous HF solution followed by a moderate heat treatment at 230°C. Highly porous calisson-like particles with low crystallite sizes of 13-30 nm are obtained. Outstanding rate capability and cycling stability are observed. This material can deliver reversible capacities of 260 mAh g-1 at C/10 and 150 mAh g-1 at 2 C rate, as well as a stable capacity of 200 mAh g-1 at 1 C rate after 50 cycles. A systematic structural study at long range order by XRD and at the chemical bond scale by Raman microspectrometry reveals the crucial impact of nanosized particles on the Li ion insertion-extraction. The structural answer of nano-V2O5 is found to produce a solid solution behavior over the largest Li composition range never reached for a Li intercalation compound (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.8). This result completely upsets the expected phase diagram for micro-LixV2O5 dominated by three wide biphasic regions. Such a finding explains the original sloped discharge-charge curves observed for nano-V2O5. Also we provide evidence for the better kinetics of Li insertion reaction induced by the nanosize effect of the material

Abstract: Sengers syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by lack of acylglycerol kinase due to mutations in the AGK gene. It is characterized by congenital cataract, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myopathy and lactic acidosis. Two clinical forms have been described: a severe neonatal form, and a more benign form displaying exercise intolerance. We describe two siblings with congenital cataract, cardiomyopathy, hypotonia, intellectual disability and lactic acidosis. Whole exome sequencing revealed a homozygous c.1035dup mutation in the two siblings, supporting a diagnosis of Sengers syndrome. Our patients presented an intermediate form with intellectual deficiency, an unusual feature in Sengers syndrome. This permitted a prenatal diagnosis for a following pregnancy.

Cystectomy: gold standard, conformed to the endometrioma pathophysiology (3 zones). Laser CO2 Plasmajet® vaporisation: important data lead to legitimate utilisation. Haemostasis: be patient! Use of bipolar energy sparingly. Look for other endometriotic lesions, and systematic treatment. Preoperative medical treatment not always useful. Postoperative treatment: decrease recurrence. Especially for patients with no immediate pregnancy desire.
