Abstract

We present results from an analysis of all data taken by the bicep2/Keck CMB polarization experiments up to and including the 2015 observing season. This includes the first Keck Array observations at 220 GHz and additional observations at 95 and 150 GHz. The Q and U maps reach depths of 5.2, 2.9, and 26 μK_{CMB} arcmin at 95, 150, and 220 GHz, respectively, over an effective area of ≈400 square degrees. The 220 GHz maps achieve a signal to noise on polarized dust emission approximately equal to that of Planck at 353 GHz. We take auto and cross spectra between these maps and publicly available WMAP and Planck maps at frequencies from 23 to 353 GHz. We evaluate the joint likelihood of the spectra versus a multicomponent model of lensed-ΛCDM+r+dust+synchrotron+noise. The foreground model has seven parameters, and we impose priors on some of these using external information from Planck and WMAP derived from larger regions of sky. The model is shown to be an adequate description of the data at the current noise levels. The likelihood analysis yields the constraint r_{0.05}0.07 at 95% confidence, which tightens to r_{0.05}0.06 in conjunction with Planck temperature measurements and other data. The lensing signal is detected at 8.8σ significance. Running a maximum likelihood search on simulations we obtain unbiased results and find that σ(r)=0.020. These are the strongest constraints to date on primordial gravitational waves.

Abstract

Ondanks de verstrengde Mestwetgeving beantwoordt de waterkwaliteit in Vlaanderen niet overal aan de Europese normen van 50 mg NO3/l en 0,1 mg P/l. In het Europese project NuReDrain zoeken 11 organisaties uit Vlaanderen, Duitsland en Denemarken samen naar filtermaterialen voor het verwijderen van N en P uit land- en tuinbouwwater. Voor het verwijderen van nitraten uit het water test het PCS naast het klassieke tweetrapsrietveld ook een nieuwe zuiveringstechniek, met name een Moving Bed BioReactor (MBBR). Dit project wordt mogelijk gemaakt dankzij de financiële steun van het Interreg North Sea Region programma van de Europese Unie.

Het project FO SCA P introduceert een technisch eenvoudige en innovatieve techniek voor fosfaatcaptatie uit spuistroom door een chemische binding van fosfaten aan IOC S (Iron Oxide Coated Sand; ijzerkorrels met een zandkern) of granulaat van steekvast ijzerslib. Beide filtermaterialen zijn nevenproducten van de ontijzering bij drinkwaterbereiding.

Abstract

Dat weekhuidmijten de voorbije 4 jaar in het middelpunt van de belangstelling stonden in de Afdeling Azalea en Rhododendron, is voor veel telers niet onopgemerkt voorbij gegaan. We zijn dankzij een IWT-project heel wat te weten gekomen over goede staalnameprocedures, goede preventieve acties, de biologie, de gevoeligheid van cultivars, de verspreiding in de plant en in de serre, enzovoort. Dit IWT-project is nu afgelopen, maar we dragen de opgedane kennis mee en we kunnen ze gebruiken wanneer telers beslissen dat er binnen de afdeling ook nog verdere proeven dienen te gebeuren.

78. Twee jaar proeven uitspoeling van nitraat bij azalea op containervelden

Abstract

Op 1 april 2012 werd een ADLO-demonstratieproject opgestart om de problematiek rond uitspoeling van nitraat op tray- en containervelden met cijfermateriaal te duiden. Op 31 maart van dit jaar liep dit ADLO-project ten einde. Binnen dit project werden onder meer demonstratieproeven opgezet rond de uitspoeling van nitraat via de drainproductie bij aardbeien, verschillende boomkwekerijgewassen en bij azalea. De resultaten van de aardbeien zijn terug te vinden in Proeftuinnieuws 2013, nr. 4 (p. 14-17) en Proeftuinnieuws 2014, nr. 4 (p. 14-16). Voor de boomkwekerij verscheen eerder dit jaar reeds een artikel in Sierteelt & Groenvoorziening, nr. 8, p. 19-21.

Abstract

Momenteel is de kwaliteit van het oppervlaktewater in Vlaanderen onvoldoende, ondanks reeds gedane inspanningen. Er zijn o.a. te veel nitraten aanwezig in het oppervlaktewater. Om deze reductie te kunnen realiseren werd er, aansluitend bij het in werking treden van het nieuwe mestactieplan (MAP IV), door de de Vlaamse Overheid een flankerend beleid op gang gebracht en werken extra financiële middelen vrijgemaakt. De flankerende maatregelen zijn gebaseerd op drie pijlers: oprichting van een onderzoeksplatform, de organisatie van demonstratieprojecten en de oprichting van het Coördinatiecentrum voor Voorlichting en Begeleiding van Duurzame Bemesting (CVBB).

Spoelwater van filters wordt vaak in het oppervlaktewater geloosd. Indien het rijk is aan voedingsstoffen, dreigt de nitraatnorm van 50 mg/l te worden overschreden. Mits enkele aanpassingen kan dit spoelwater op heel wat bedrijven hergebruikt worden. Een alternatief is het verspreiden op grasland.

Na eerder onderzoek op het PCS rondom het gebruik van langzame zandfiltratie en UV-ontsmetting, werd dit voorjaar gestart met een vergelijking van 5 andere waterontsmettingstechnieken. Deze technieken zijn gebaseerd op toediening van koperionen, waterstofperoxiden, chloordioxide of andere chloorradicalen, of op activering van de aanwezige chloor in het gietwater. In een tijdspanne van 2 jaar willen we zoveel mogelijk praktische info opdoen over de mogelijkheden en beperkingen van alle systemen.

Abstract

In paediatrics, ambulatory care under hospital control is ensured both by the out-patient department and by the emergency unit. If socio-economic level and parental availability are taken into account, the hospital remains the most accessible health-care structure in large towns. The common illnesses, in most cases infectious and respiratory, should not encumber the emergency unit, but should instead be taken in charge by a structure where an extended-timetable dispensary and an out-patient clinic by appointment work in parallel. In the most favourable cases, a home care unit completes this out-patient structure. Its main characteristics are as follows: it is exclusively paediatric, and it aims at shortening or avoiding hospitalization. It improves the quality of treatment, provides the family with medico-social support and follow-up that is particularly useful in less favoured settings, and can also offer preliminary training in heavy or chronic cases. Abstract

The BICEP and Keck Array experiments are a suite of small-aperture refracting telescopes observing the microwave sky from the South Pole. They target the degree-scale B-mode polarization signal imprinted in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) by primordial gravitational waves. Such a measurement would shed light on the physics of the very early universe. While BICEP2 observed for the first time a B-mode signal at 150 GHz, higher frequencies from the Planck satellite showed that it could be entirely due to the polarized emission from Galactic dust, though uncertainty remained high. Keck Array has been observing the same region of the sky for several years, with an increased detector count, producing the deepest polarized CMB maps to date. New detectors at 95 GHz were installed in 2014, and at 220 GHz in 2015. These observations enable a better constraint of galactic foreground emissions, as presented here. In 2015, BICEP2 was replaced by BICEP3, a 10 times higher throughput telescope observing at 95 GHz, while Keck Array is now focusing on higher frequencies. In the near future, BICEP Array will replace Keck Array, and will allow unprecedented sensitivity to the gravitational wave signal.
