The article adds that in training for dictation, training should be given not only to the clerk taking dictation but also to the person giving the dictation, though this is very rarely done. Correct training for the giver of dictation is embodied in these audio-typewriting dictation conventions. Essentially these conventions are the notes for Teachers and Candidates in Audio-Typewriting Examinations of the Royal Society of Arts. They might reasonably be used in the training of all givers of dictation, using either direct dictation or recorded methods. The dictator should speak clearly and in a normal pitch using natural inflexions and pauses. It is important that word endings are clearly sounded, especially the letter "s". Necessary instructions to the audio-typist must be given during the dictation. The dictator should differentiate between dictation and instruction by the speed and pitch of the voice.
