Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior The main objective of this work is to analyse the impact caused by business model changes, mainly regarding the value proposition, over the clients´ perceived value, and consequently, its effect upon the captured value for the company. In addition, it has the further following objectives: the understanding of business model changes, and their impacts on other business model elements. The study was conducted in the Brazilian credit card sector and was designed and developed using three different methodological techniques: i) interviews with companies and with market experts; ii) on-line surveys with clients of a credit card operator (for measuring the clients´s perceived value before and after the change); and iii) a secondary data analysis also conducted with credit card operator clients, comparing the usage patterns in two periods (before and after the change). The findings not only confirmed the two proposed research hypothesis (a business model change impacts the clients´perceived value and also the value captured by the company), but also gave a quantitative indication of the degree of impact. Apart from this, the interviews revealed relevant findings about the business model change process in the sector, as well as the main challenges faced by companies. These findings provide a significant contribution for the research field of business models and perceived value, and further reveal useful lessons and practical implications for all those involved in these areas.

This article provides a report on the state-of-the-art in the prediction of intra-molecular residue-residue contacts in proteins based on the assessment of the predictions submitted to the CASP11 experiment. The assessment emphasis is placed on the accuracy in predicting long-range contacts. Twenty-nine groups participated in contact prediction in CASP11. At least eight of them used the recently developed evolutionary coupling techniques, with the top group (CONSIP2) reaching precision of 27% on target proteins that could not be modeled by homology. This result indicates a breakthrough in the development of methods based on the correlated mutation approach. Successful prediction of contacts was shown to be practically helpful in modeling three-dimensional structures; in particular target T0806 was modeled exceedingly well with accuracy not yet seen for ab initio targets of this size (250 residues). Recent advances in DNA sequencing have changed the field of genomics as well as that of proteomics making it possible to generate gigabases of genome and transcriptome sequence data at substantially lower cost than it was possible just ten years ago. In recent years, many high-throughput technologies have been developed to interrogate various aspects of cellular processes, including sequence and structural variation and the transcriptome, epigenome, proteome and interactome. These Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experimental technologies are more mature and accessible than the computational tools available for individual researchers to move, store, analyse and present data in a user-friendly and reproducible fashion. My research work is placed in this scenario and focuses on the analysis of data produced by NGS technologies as well as on the development of new tools aimed at solving the different problems that arise during NGS data analysis. In order to achieve this aim, my group and I have dealt with several open biomedical problems in collaboration with different research groups of the Sapienza University. Some of these experiments have already given interesting results but mostly have represented the occasion and starting point for the development of new tools able to improve some crucial steps of the analyses, solve problems derived by the system complexity and make the results easier to understand for the researchers. Some examples are IsomirT, a tool for the small RNA-Seq analysis and isomiR identification, Phagotto, a tool for analysing deep sequencing data derived from phage-displayed libraries and FIDEA, a web server for the functional interpretation of differential expression analysis. Recent reports have demonstrated that individual microRNAs can be heterogeneous in length and/or sequence producing multiple mature variants that have been dubbed isomiRs. IsomirT is a useful tool to improve and simplify the search for isomiRs starting directly from the results of a miRNA-sequencing experiment. By using it, we observed the behaviour of isomiRs in different cell types and in different biological replicates. Our results indicate that the distribution of the microRNA variants is similar among replicates and different among cells/tissues suggesting that the isomiRs have a functional role in the cell. The use of the NGS technologies for the analysis of antibody selected sequences both using phage display libraries and in vitro selection processes is becoming increasingly popular. By using these technologies, the experimental group headed by prof. Felici has introduced a new experimental pipeline, named PROFILER, aimed at significantly empowering the analysis of antigen-specific libraries. A key step to exploit this idea has been to develop a new tool, Phagotto, for processing and analysing the data derived by sequencing. PROFILER, in combination with Phagotto, seems ideally suited to streamline and guide rational antigen design, adjuvant selection, and quality control of newly produced vaccines. The publicly available web server FIDEA allows experimentalists to obtain a functional interpretation of the results derived from differential expression analysis and to test their hypothesis quickly and easily. The tool performs an enrichment analysis i.e. an analysis of specific properties that are distributed in a non random fashion in the up-regulated and down-regulated genes, taken both together and separately. It has been shown to be very useful and is being heavily used from scientists all over the world, more than 1500 requests for analysis have been submitted to the server in six months. Furthermore, during the course of the PhD I implemented pipelines for the speeding up and optimization of protocols for NGS data analysis and applied them to biomedical projects. Of course not all the proteins have a complete functional annotation and consequently the issue of predicting the function of proteins with a partial or no functional annotation arises. This can be done both by exploiting the 3D structure of the protein or by inferring the function directly from the sequence. A real challenge, however, is the assessment of the accuracy of existing methods. In this context the help that critical assessment experiments can give is essential. We have had the possibility to be involved, as assessors, in the world wide experiment CASP (Critical Assessment of protein Structure Prediction). In particular, we are involved in the assessment of the residue-residue contacts in which the participant groups provide a list of predicted contacts between residues that hopefully can be used as constraints to fold the protein. We proposed and implemented new methodologies to understand which method works better and where future efforts should be focused. KAUST [KUK-I1-012-43]

Constitutive NF-B-K signaling promotes survival in multiple myeloma (MM) and other cancers; however, current NF-B-K-targeting strategies lack cancer cell specificity. Here, we identify the interaction between the NF-B-K-regulated antiapoptotic factor GADD45 beta and the JNK kinase MKK7 as a therapeutic target in MM. Using a drug-discovery strategy, we developed DTP3, a D-tripeptide, which disrupts the GADD45 beta/ MKK7 complex, kills MM cells effectively, and, importantly, lacks toxicity to normal cells. DTP3 has similar anticancer potency to the clinical standard, bortezomib, but more than 100-fold higher cancer cell specificity in vitro. Notably, DTP3 ablates rnyeloma xenografts in mice with no apparent side effects at the effective doses. Hence, cancer-selective targeting of the NF-KB pathway is possible and, at least for myeloma patients, promises a profound benefit.

Michael Kutschker is one of the scholars in management who suggested already a long time ago that we should study firms in general and multinational corporations (MNCs) in particular from a network perspective (Kutschker 1980, Kutschker/Schmid 1995).1 Nowadays it is quite common in the international business (IB) literature to view multinational corporations (MNCs) as networks. While many contributions focus on inter-organizational and local networks (e.g., Powell/Koput/Smith-Doerr 1996, McEvily/Zaheer 1999, Andersson/Forsgren/Holm 2002), this paper concentrates on intra-organizational networks (Hedlund 1986, Prahalad/Doz 1987, Bartlett/Ghoshal 1991, Schmid/Schurig/Kutschker 2002). One important assumption of MNC network models is that subsidiaries can take highly differentiated roles and can fulfil different functions for the entire MNC or for parts of the MNC (Bartlett/Ghoshal 1986, p. 88, Ghoshal/Nohria 1989, p. 323, Birkinshaw/Hood 1998a, p. 6, Paterson/Brock 2002, p. 142). The notion of differentiated subsidiary roles has inspired a considerable amount of conceptual work as well as empirical research (e.g. White/Poynter 1984, Young/Hood/Dunlop 1988, Jarillo/Martinez 1990, Gupta/Govindarajan 1994; for an overview see Schmid/Baurle/Kutschker 1998, Schmid/Kutschker 2003).

- Abstract
In the past decades, the notion of differentiated subsidiary roles within multinational network corporations has inspired a considerable amount of research. Surprisingly, the question of whether headquarters and subsidiary managers perceive a certain subsidiary's role in the same way has been neglected. Andrea Daniel not only compares headquarters and subsidiary managers'perceptions of a subsidiary's role, but she analyzes the implications of perception gaps for the headquarters-subsidiary relationship. The author develops a novel conceptual framework that allows to examine headquarters-subsidiary relationships and, in particular, the subsidiary role concept. This framework proposes headquarters-subsidiary conflict as the main implication of perception gaps.

- Abstract
ABSTRACT We present the results of the assessment of the intramolecular residue-residue contact predictions from 26 prediction groups participating in the 10th round of the CASP experiment. The most recently developed direct coupling analysis methods did not take part in the experiment likely because they require a very deep sequence alignment not available for any of the 114 CASP10 targets. The performance of contact prediction methods was evaluated with the measures used in previous CASPs (i.e., prediction accuracy and the difference between the distribution of the predicted contacts and that of all pairs of residues in the target protein), as well as new measures, such as the Matthews correlation coefficient, the area under the precision-recall curve and the ranks of the first correctly and incorrectly predicted contact. We also evaluated the ability to detect interdomain contacts and tested whether the difficulty of predicting contacts depends upon the protein length and the depth of the family sequence alignment. The analyses were carried out on the target domains for which structural homologs did not exist or were difficult to identify. The evaluation was performed for all types of contacts (short, medium, and long-range), with emphasis placed on long-range contacts, i.e. those involving residues separated by at least 24 residues along the sequence. The assessment suggests that the best CASP10 contact prediction methods perform at approximately the same level, and comparably to those participating in CASP9. - Abstract
Properties of the maintenance and loss of Spanish/English bilingualism wereinvestigated in 308 high-school students of Mexican background. Subjects were classified by their depth of familial establishment in the United States. The key variables investigated were their actual and self-reported proficiencies in Spanish and English, self-reported language choice behavior in various settings, and their language attitude. The largest difference in Spanish proficiency was found between the cohort who were born in the United States but whose parents were born in Mexico and the cohort whose parents were born in the United States, with maintenance of Spanish evident up to this group. Maintenance of Spanish proficiency was principally associated with adult language practice in the home, and was not predicted by the subject's language choice outside the home or their language attitude. In turn, adult language choice was found to be affected by the demographic fact of immigration, the adults ability to use English in the home, and increasing distance in the familial social network ties to Mexico. Outside of the home domain, language choice was found to show rapid and constant shift towards English. This shift in language choice was unrelated to Spanish proficiency, but instead was predicted by the subject's language attitude. Language attitude also appeared to contaminate self-reported proficiency in both Spanish and English. Finally, a response latency task for vocabulary production and recognition in Spanish suggested that attrition of Spanish is best characterized as difficulty in retrieval rather than total loss. The dynamic interplay between cancer cells and cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) is regulated by multiple signaling pathways, which can lead to cancer progression and therapy resistance. We have previously demonstrated that hMENA, a member of the actin regulatory protein of Ena/VASP family, and its tissue‐specific isoforms influence a number of intracellular signaling pathways related to cancer progression. Here, we report a novel function of hMENA/hMENAΔv6 isoforms in tumor‐promoting CAFs and in the modulation of pro‐tumoral cancer cell/CAF crosstalk via GAS6/AXL axis regulation. LC‐MS/MS proteomic analysis reveals that CAFs that overexpress hMENAΔv6 secrete the AXL ligand GAS6, favoring the invasiveness of AXL‐expressing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Reciprocally, hMENA/hMENAΔv6 regulates AXL expression in tumor cells, thus sustaining GAS6‐AXL axis, reported as crucial in EMT, immune evasion, and drug resistance. Clinically, we found that a high hMENA/GAS6/AXL gene expression signature is associated with a poor prognosis in PDAC and NSCLC. We propose that hMENA contributes to cancer progression through paracrine tumor–stroma crosstalk, with far‐reaching prognostic and therapeutic implications for NSCLC and PDAC., This study reveals that inhibition of hMENA/hMENADv6 expression reduces pro‐tumor CAF‐cancer cell crosstalk and inhibits cancer cell invasiveness.

First of all, Perú has been registering economic growth rates throughout recent years. The main protagonists of this standing growth are the different regions of the country. These are managed by a Regional Government whose responsibility is to work in a sustained and consistent manner in economic development, allowing to improve the general welfare of the population. This strategic planning for Apurimac, a region that has a great opportunity for sustained development in long term. This is due to it is located in an excellent geographical area that has a land rich in minerals, great tourist attractions, extension of land for agriculture, good climate and great biodiversity.
The Amazon Region due to its high variety of climates and ecological floors has as main economic source the agricultural sector. The region also stands out for its important tourist attractions, which have not been adequately promoted, mainly because of the lack of access infrastructure that allows it to be valued within national and foreign tourism as part of the tourist circuit of the Peruvian jungle. Considering these substantial competitive advantages, it can be determined that the Amazon region has the potential to overcome the social indicators that currently keep it behind at a national level over a period of ten years. In the external analysis, it has been possible to identify important opportunities in the exports of products and tourism that even the region has not taken advantage of in its maximum potential. With respect to exports, coffee and cocoa have shown a high international demand, which is made up of consumers who demand high levels of quality, through certifications recognized worldwide and which in turn have a positive impact on the prices. The internal analysis shows us the need for the Regional Government to create the dependencies that monitor and monitor the fulfillment of this strategic planning, with the purpose of supporting the productive chain, as well as the development of agricultural technology, investment in information systems and investment in infrastructure. Due to the aforementioned, the development of three key industries has been proposed: coffee, cocoa and tourism. The increase of the exportable supply, through an effective productive and exporting chain of coffee and cocoa will provide the solid bases for the economic growth that the region needs; as well as, the improvement in infrastructure and road interconnection will make it possible for tourism in the region to be considered one of the main references at the national level. These three activities, appropriately focused on the strategies that have been proposed, will lead the Amazon Region to obtain the income it needs to achieve the vision established in this Strategic Planning for the year 2027. In this way, the conditions of life of the Amazonian settlers, who will have access to quality health, nutrition and education services. Tesis

Although, SABs are intermediaries mostly at the BVL, they also compete with different intermediaries in other over the counter (OTC) markets; such as the foreign exchange market. SABs performance throughout the time has been closely related to the BVL, which obtained excellent results the last decade until it was impacted by the global financial crisis in 2009. Even though the BVL has recovered somehow, this recovery has not been constant and it has declined severely in the last years; both in liquidity and operations’ relevance. This situation has been connected to the BVL stock index decrease, which improved a 65% in 2010 and then declining in the following years until it reached 33.43% in 2015. Within this context, this study intends to analyze the external and internal factors affecting the 26 SABs currently operating in our country. From this analysis, 8 strategies, 4 long-term and 24 short-term objectives are posed to allow our SABs to transcend, by 2016, as one of the best intermediaries among their Latin-American peers; due to its high service quality contributing to Peru’s stock exchange market. When putting in practice this strategic planning, we can foresee a promising future for SABs, as they will substantially improve the quality and variety on their offers from the use of information technologies and incorporating highly qualified personnel throughout their value chain until reaching the client. This way, the SABs will become highly profitable companies forming a financial cluster in Lima, collaborating closely with key parties such as banks, AFPs (Private Pension Fund in Spanish), mutual funds, the BVL, the SMV (Peruvian Superintendency of Securities Market in Spanish), and others in order to heighten the market development and innovation level Tesis

The main objective of the “Strategic Plan of the Pension System in Peru” is to promote the competitiveness of this sector to improve services of pension to the population. By the year 2026, it is proposed as a vision that Pension System in Perú include all the Peruvian population in retirement age (with state payments and individual contributions), being effective in obtaining long-term profitability (through appropriate risk management), and efficient in the costs of administration. To achieve this vision, short-term and long-term objectives were proposed that seek to increase the average replacement rate, and the number of people receiving a pension. In the external analysis, the following opportunities were identified: the economic growth of the country and the occupied EAP, as well as the freedom of state, private and / or mixed initiatives; and as threats: labor informality, changes in legislation and low educational level. In the internal analysis, it was identified that pension funds administrators have high returns; and as weaknesses: the low level of coverage, the decrease in the profitability of funds and the low number of companies that make up the system. After the analysis, the following strategies were defined: creating a mixed system in which the public sector plays a subsidiary role; and the private sector manages the funds. Also retirement should be retarded, the commissions should be based on profitability, should be defined the minimum pension and contribution of the self-employed, and other financial institutions should be included. It is recommended that the implementation of this plan be led by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), in coordination with the Congress of Perú and the SBS, reviewing the best practices of the best pension systems classified in the Global Mercer Pension Index, and asking the Peruvian State to combat informality, which limits people’s access to a pension Tesis

The present study aims to identify the main variables of market that affect the financial results of local steel companies. Further, to evaluate the trends and projections of these variables in order to evaluate mechanisms of control to mitigate the risk associated with the volatility of their prices, through hedges using financial derivatives. During the last years the steel sector has faced a scenario of greater competition, due to market fragmentation and overcapacity installed globally. This has led to a reduction in the prices of products steel derivatives, which has contracted the margins of companies in the sector. To level local, Aceros Arequipa has had a net profit on sales of 9.7% in 2011, 2.7% in 2012, 1.1% in 2013 and 2.84% in 2014; while Siderperú had a net profit over sales of 3.5% in 2011, -5.9% in 2012, -0.1% in 2013 and -12.74% in 2014. Within the study four variables were identified that impact materially the financial results of the local steel companies, these are: the price of the iron ore, the price of imported scrap, the price of the products semi-finished and the PEN / USD exchange rate. When performing a sensitivity analysis on the 2014 financial statements, it was possible to identify that the variable with a higher Impact is the price of the semi-finished product. If all other variables are maintained constant, a variation of the price in +/- 10% could affect in +/- 61% the net profit of the year 2014 of Aceros Arequipa and in +/- 25% of Siderperú. To mitigate market risks there are derivatives in the market financial. At the local level there are forwards, options and swaps that allow mitigating the changes in the exchange rate, but there are no derivative products to cover the risk of variation in the price of the main raw materials of the steel sector. In organized markets such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME Group), LCH or Singapore Exchange, there are forwards, options and swaps for iron ore, the scrap and semi-finished products, these last two products are relatively new and do not present the level of trading of other commodities. As part of the strengthening of risk management in steel companies local, it is recommended to implement an organization that considers responsibilities at the operational, managerial and directory. In addition to a formalized identification process, measurement, evaluation, treatment and monitoring of risks; supported on policies and procedures. Tesis

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and deadliest primary brain tumor, driving patients to death within 15 months after diagnosis (short term survivors, ST), with the exception of a small fraction of patients (long term survivors, LT) surviving longer than 36 months. Here we present deep sequencing data showing that peritumoral (P) areas differ from healthy white matter, but share with their respective frankly tumoral (C) samples, a number of mRNAs and microRNAs representative of extracellular matrix remodeling, TGFβ and signaling, of the involvement of cell types different from tumor cells but contributing to tumor growth, such as microglia or reactive astrocytes. Moreover, we provide evidence about RNAs differentially expressed in ST vs LT samples, suggesting the contribution of TGF-β signaling in this distinction too. We also show that the edited form of miR-376c-3p is reduced in C vs P samples and in ST tumors compared to LT ones. As a whole, our study provides new insights into the still puzzling distinction between ST and LT tumors, and sheds new light onto that "grey" zone represented by the area surrounding the tumor, which we show to be characterized by the expression of several molecules shared with the proper tumor mass.
