Demans küresel olarak yaşlanan nüfus ve yaşam beklentisinin artması ile giderek sıklığı artan bir hastalıktır. Demansı olan bireylere yönelik tedavi, bakım, müdahale ve destek için; kültürü de içine alan holistik bakım sağlanması gerekmektedir. Bireyin içinde bulunduğu sosyokültürel faktörlerin grup ve bireysel davranışı etkileyen sembolleri, inançları ve gelenekleri içeren geniş bir kültür kavramsallaştırmasını kapsaması gerekmektedir. Bundan dolayı, demansı olan bir bireyin kişiliğini desteklerken de bu unsurları anlamak çok önemlidir. Hasta J.E.’nin inancı olan Budizm, dünyada fazla sayıda üyesi olan inanışlardan birisidir. Kültürlerarası hemşirelik bakım anlayışına göre; hemşirenin uygulayacağı bakım girişimlerini bakım verdiği hastanın inanışına ve kültürüne uygun olarak uyarlaması gerekmektedir. Bu bağlamda incelenen bu olguda da hemşirelerin Budist hastaya bakım verirken, hastanın temel amacının vücudun hastalık nedeniyle bozulan yin/yang dengesini geri getirmek olduğunu anlamaları gerekmektedir. Yapılan incelemede, ulusal ve uluslararası literatürde demansı olan Budist bireylerde Leininger’ın Gündoğumu Modeli’ni kullanan herhangi bir araştırmaya rastlanmamıştır. Bu olgu sunumu, Leininger’ın Gündoğumu Modeli’ni demansı olan Budist bir kadın hastanın kültürel değerlendirilmesinin kullanımına örnek olarak yapılmıştır., Dementia is a disease whose prevalence is increasing with the aging population and increasing life expectancy globally. Holistic care, including culture, is required for treatment, care, intervention and support for individuals with dementia. The sociocultural factors that the individual is in need to encompass a broad conceptualization of culture, including symbols, beliefs, and traditions that affect group and individual behavior. Therefore, it is very important to understand these elements when supporting the personality of an individual with dementia. Buddhism, the creed of Patient J.E., is one of the creeds with a large number of members in the world. According to the understanding of intercultural nursing care, the nurse should adapt the care interventions to be applied in accordance with the belief and culture of the patient he/she cares for. In this case, which is examined in this context, nurses need to understand that the main purpose of the patient while giving care to the Buddhist patient is to restore the yin / yang balance of the body that has been disturbed by the disease. In the study, no research was found in the national and international literature using Leininger's Sunrise Model in Buddhist individuals with dementia. This case report uses Leininger's Sunrise Model as an example of using the cultural assessment of a Buddhist female patient with dementia.

Traballo Fin de Grao en Enfermaría. Curso 2021-2022 Introdución: A competencia cultural (CC) en saúde defínese como un proceso no que os profesionais sanitarios se esforzan por acadar a habilidade para traballar adecuadamente dentro do contexto cultural do paciente, familia ou comunidade. A diversidade da sociedade actual presenta novos desafíos sanitarios. Para ofertar unha atención de calidade, é fundamental que a formación universitaria non quede allea a estos cambios. Obxectivos: Avaliar a CC do estudantado de 1º e 4º curso da Facultade de Enfermaría de Santiago de Compostela. Así como averiguar se existen diferencias na puntuación da sensibilidade, coñecementos e habilidades culturais; e indagar sobre os contidos do plan de estudos da Facultade de Enfermaría da USC en materia de transculturalidade e CC. Métodos: Desenvolveuse un estudo transversal entre o estudantado 1º e 4º do curso 2021/2022 do Grao en Enfermaría no Campus de Santiago de Compostela (n=137). Para a recompilación de datos utilizouse a Escala de Medición de Competencia Cultural (EMCC-14). A súa análise levouse a cabo mediante o programa informático SPSS Statistics versión 27. Resultados: O nivel de CC do alumnado é de 75 puntos na EMCC-14. A dimensión cunha puntuación máis baixa é a de sensibilidade (68,8), seguida da de habilidades (79,8) e da de coñecemento (87,5). O estudantado de 4º curso conseguiu unha puntuación lixeiramente superior nos constructos de sensibilidade e coñecemento. Porén, a puntuación da dimensión de habilidades é notablemente superior entre o estudantado de 1º curso. Conclusións: Este é o primeiro estudo que valora a CC en estudantes da Facultade de Enfermaría da USC. O nivel de CC é semellante ao doutras investigacións previas. Ábrese a porta á consolidación dunha nova asignatura relacionada cos coidados basados en aspectos culturais. Introduction: Cultural competence (CC) in health is defined as a process in which health professionals strive to achieve the ability to work appropriately within the cultural context of the patient, family or community. The diversity of today's society presents new challenges in health. In order to offer quality care, it is essential that university education is not left out of these changes. Objectives: To evaluate the CC of students in the 1st and 4th years of the Nursing Degree in Santiago de Compostela. As well as to find out if there are differences in the score of cultural sensitivity, knowledge and skills; and to inquire about the contents of the Nursing Degree program at the USC in terms of transculturality and CC. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among students in the 1st and 4th years of the 2021/2022 course of the Nursing Degree at the Santiago de Compostela Campus (n=137). For data collection, the Cultural Competence Measurement Scale (EMCC-14) was used. Its analysis was performed using the statistical package SPSS v22. Results: The CC level of the students is 75 points in the EMCC-14. The dimension with the lowest score is sensitivity (68.8), followed by skills (79.8) and knowledge (87.5). The 4th grade students achieved a slightly higher score in the constructs of sensitivity and knowledge. However, the skills dimension score is certainly higher among first-year students. Conclusions: This is the first study that assesses CC in students of theNursing Degree at the Santiago de Compostela Campus. The level of CC is similar to that of other previous investigations. The door is opened to the consolidation of a new subject related to care based on cultural aspects.

Objetivo: investigar na literatura a aplicação do ensino da enfermagem transcultural para estudantes de cursos de graduação em enfermagem. Método: revisão integrativa de artigos publicados entre 2011 e 2021 através de buscas na Medline, Lilacs, BDENF e IBECS, a partir da questão norteadora: qual a abordagem da literatura sobre a aplicação do ensino da enfermagem transcultural para estudantes de cursos de graduação em enfermagem? Resultados: foram encontrados um total de 92 artigos, dos quais 10 foram incluídos nesta revisão. Identificou-se que minicursos e workshops sobre enfermagem transcultural e intercâmbios culturais aumentam a competência cultural dos estudantes, tendo, portanto, impacto positivo sobre as atitudes dos futuros enfermeiros. Renovações de currículos e preparação dos docentes devem ser consideradas para o aperfeiçoamento do ensino da enfermagem transcultural. Considerações finais: o ensino da enfermagem transcultural para estudantes de graduação em enfermagem não deve se limitar a aulas teóricas, devendo ser enfatizado também através do ensino prático.

Cultural competency is essential for providing transcultural nursing care. This qualitative study explores nurses' experiences of providing transcultural nursing care to patients from ethnic minority in Yunnan province, China, with the aim of supplementing and enriching previous quantitative research. Yunnan is home to 25 ethnic minorities with the highest proportion (33.1%) of people from ethnic minorities in China. A descriptive qualitative method was used to describe the experiences of 12 nurses. Data were collected in October 2020 through semistructured interviews and analyzed using conventional content analysis methods. Three themes were generated, including limitations of resources to provide transcultural nursing care, challenges in providing transcultural nursing care, and concerns about the quality of nursing care. The results suggest that there is scope for improving cultural competence of nurses in Yunnan through education that would enable them to provide high-quality transcultural nursing care. Training topics could include transcultural knowledge, cultural sensitivity, minority languages, and immersive multicultural experiences. Other suggested improvements include a resource room for transcultural care, the accommodation of religious and dietary needs, and dedicated staff who lead transcultural care in hospitals.

This study aimed to examine the relationships between resilience, moral sensitivity, and cultural competence among nurses. A descriptive correlational design was employed. The study comprises 120 nurses. The resilience total scores and most of its domain scores were significantly and positively associated with the cultural competency total and domain scores. Additionally, the resilience total scores and some of its domain scores were significantly in relation to the moral sensitivity total and domain scores. Resilience total and domain scores were significantly and positively related to the moral sensitivity total and domain scores. The emergent correlations underscore the role that resilience plays in nurses' moral sensitivity and cultural competence. The present findings suggest that nurse managers should develop delivery models that nurture resilience in nurses.

Introduction The coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately negatively affected the ultraorthodox in Israel. Their unique characteristics and slow adoption of preventative health guidelines resulted in a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. To lower these rates, health and government authority figures employed methods to change the ultraorthodox community health behaviors. Methodology This study utilizes the ACCESS model for transcultural nursing to analyze the response by authorities to high infection rates in the large ultraorthodox community in city of Beit Shemesh during the first wave of the outbreak (through early May). Results The authorities employed all model components to varying degrees and found moderate success in changing health behaviors of the ultraorthodox. Discussion Employing the ACCESS model as a response to the health care crisis among the ultraorthodox community in Beit Shemesh led to some success in increased compliance, thus lowering morbidity rates. However, not establishing strong respect and rapport hindered the process.

This study aimed to identify the correlation between perceived susceptibility, perceived seriousness, perceived benefit, self-efficacy, perceived barrier, cues to action, and the choice of using the intrauterine device. A cross-sectional study was carried out to 109 mothers in Ngudikan Village. Data were collected using questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation with a level of significance α = 0.05. The result show that there is a correlation between perceived susceptibility (p = 0.000; r = 0.436), perceived seriousness (p = 0.000; r = 0.402), perceived benefits (p = 0.033; r = 0.204), perceived barriers (p = 0.00, r = −0.614), perceived self-efficacy (p = 0.008; r = 0.253) and cues to action (p = 0.006; r = 0.261) had a correlation with the choice of intrauterine device in Nganjuk, Indonesia. Perceived susceptibility, perceived seriousness, perceived benefits, self -efficacy, and cues to action will affect the decision of mothers in choosing an intrauterine device. This study recommended further research on a transcultural nursing approach to follow up on the result of this study.

Leininger'in Kültürel Bakım Teorisindeki amacı insan kültürlerinde hemşirelik bakımındaki girişimlerin farklılıklarını ve kültürün bireylerin sağlık durumlarına etkilerini açıklamaktır. Literatür kültürel yeterliliğin, sağlık bakım kalitesinin önemli bileşenlerinden biri ve sağlık bakım çıktıları üzerinde iyileştirici etkisi olduğunu belirtmektedir. Bu olgu sunumunun amacı köyde yaşayan bir hastayı Gündoğumu Modeli ile değerlendirmek ve kültürel açıdan yeterli hemşirelik bakımının sonuçlarına dikkat çekmektir. Hastanın kültürel bakım özelliklerine yönelik bulguları 10 başlık altında ele alınmıştır. Süreç boyunca araştırmacı hasta, hasta yakını, hemşireler ve hekimler ile birlikte iş birliği yapmıştır. Uygun iletişim dilini kullanarak hastanın kültürel değerlendirmesini tamamlamıştır. Hastayı kültürel yönden değerlendirdikten sonra ise uygun kültürel bakım kararı almıştır. Hastanın kültürel değerlendirilmesinde bazı geleneksel uygulamaların (zeytinyağlı incir tüketimi, bitki çayı kullanımı) olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Hasta için olumsuz etkisi olmayan bu uygulamalar için hemşire tarafından “kültürel bakımı koruma/sürdürme kararı” alınmıştır. Sonuç olarak, hastaya bütüncül ve kültürel yeterli hemşirelik bakımı verilmiştir.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of cultural competence and its influencing factors among Chinese nurses by using a cross-sectional design. Participants were recruited from four tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu, China, and 325 nurses completed the Cultural Competence Inventory for Nurses in China. Data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression to identify factors influencing cultural competence. The results showed that Chinese nurses self-rated cultural competence at a moderate level (mean value of 101.7 out of 145), which indicates that cultural training is necessary to improve their cultural competence. Nurses who were younger and had fewer years of working experience, had lower educational backgrounds, seldom learned about different cultures via mass media, and rarely resided in or visited places with different cultures tended to have lower cultural competence levels, and should be provided more opportunities for cultural training. By considering demographic characteristics that influence cultural competence among Chinese nurses, educators can specifically design cultural training content at an appropriate level, targeting trainees' needs and thereby enhance training effectiveness.

Aim To identify and analyse the cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices of internationally educated nurses towards end-of-life care in the context of cancer. Background Cultural heritage shape beliefs and practices about cancer and end of life, which complicates nursing care delivery. While previous studies centred on diverse patients' perspectives and cultural competence of healthcare professionals, little analysis available focusing on the cultural attitudes and beliefs of care providers from diverse backgrounds. Design Mixed methods systematic review. Data sources CINAHL, MEDLINE, Embase, PsychINFO and Scopus were searched between January and March 2020. No date limit was applied. Review methods Quality appraisal was conducted using the mixed-method appraisal tool. Convergent segregated synthesis was undertaken. Findings were thematically synthesised with the final synthesis presented narratively. Results Seven studies were included: three qualitative, two quantitative and two mixed methods. None of the studies focused on the end-of-life care experiences of IENs in the context of cancer. One study reported views on cancer, with all studies analysing the cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices of internationally educated nurses towards end-of-life care. Three main themes were identified: the philosophy of care, approaches to care and perceptions of death and dying. Conclusion The distinct gap in research on understanding the cultural attitudes and beliefs of internationally educated nurses in end-of-life care in the context of cancer demands further research. Several aspects of end-of-life care were in conflict with internationally educated nurses' cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices. As these nurses are integral in achieving culturally competent care, further understanding of this phenomenon is required to advance the delivery of culturally sensitive care to patients. Impact Stakeholders, including the nursing workforce, need to play an active role in providing a culturally inclusive workplace. Support measures are necessary to reduce the impact of cultural conflicts experienced by internationally educated nurses.

In this paper, transcultural nursing is reviewed in light of bioethical issues arising from the interpretation of mental illness in some Western Sub-Saharan African communities. Four field studies were carried out by the authors of this paper in Sub-Saharan Africa (from 2016 to 2019), during which the traditional “treatment” of enchaining people considered “crazy” by local cultures was explored. These inhuman practices raise the attention of bioethics, which investigate ways to overcome this traditional practice not violating the cultural identity of the peoples who practice it. The model of Gregoire Ahongbonon and of his Association, “Saint Camille de Lellis”, is reported as an example of negotiation between the respect for traditions and the guarantee of human rights. The care practice in force in the Saint Camille is related to transcultural nursing as an adequate form of treatment and strategy for restoring patients’ dignity and rights.

BACKGROUND Educators must respond to changing societal demographics with revised curricula that facilitate student transcultural self-efficacy to care for diverse client populations. PROBLEM A Midwest University was situated in a community wherein the Burmese Chin refugees were predominant arrivals, and the least known. OBJECTIVES This project examined the change in mean scores for transcultural self-efficacy for nursing cohorts following their engagement in educational strategies focused on the Burmese Chin culture. METHODS The project was a pre-post design. The Transcultural Self-Efficacy Tool (TSET) was used to measure students' self-efficacy. INTERVENTIONS Nursing students completed a set of educational strategies intentionally staged over 5 weeks of a semester. Background and PurposeThe role of older women close to the pregnant woman may be relevant when conveying information. The use of theories/models can guide the development of nursing practice. Purpose: To explore beliefs and practices related to pregnancy and childbirth from the perspective of older women who gave birth at home, applying Leininger's Sunrise Model.MethodsQualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with 24 older women who gave birth at home (rural area, Spain). Manual content analysis of the data was used, and Sunrise Model guided to explore the role of culture and the factors affecting maternity care.ResultsTwo main categories emerged: beliefs/practices related to physiological aspects (subcategories: minimal intervention, hygiene, pain control, rest, feeding) and to psychosocial aspects (subcategories: spiritual well-being, company).Implications for PracticeThe experiences of older women who gave birth at home helped us to understand some beliefs that survive in some pregnant women, similar in different cultures, and divided into physiological and psychosocial aspects. Older women have a relevant role as transmitters of information, and can provide some keys to plan health interventions, as companions or counselors. Applying the Sunrise Model, we verified the weight that culture has in maternal health care, and the multiple factors that interfere with the way of caring. The application of models helps us to improve nursing practice: not only should we focus on knowing the physical aspects, but also the social and cultural circumstances surrounding the pregnant woman.

Introduction: Pregnant women experiencing poor nutritional status remains a problem which is still commonly found in Surabaya. Poor nutritional status is one of the causes of increased mortality in pregnant women. The mother's education and occupation, family income, number of children, and family shape are associated with the incidence of nutritional status in pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to explain the factors related to the nutritional status of pregnant women based on transcultural nursing theory.Methods: his study uses a cross-sectional design. The population were pregnant women at the Public Health Center Tanah Kali Kedinding Surabaya Indonesia, 104 respondents were selected using a consecutive sampling technique. The independent variables were technological, religious, family support, cultural values, political & legal, economic, and educational, while the dependent variable was the incidence of nutritional status in pregnant women. The data was obtained using questionnaires and mid upper arm circumstance (MUAC) measurements. The data was analyzed using the Spearman rho test.Results: There was a relationship between technological (p=0.001 ; r=0.332), family support (p=0.000 ; r=0.379), cultural values (p=0.000 ; r=0.702), political & legal (p=0.000 ; r=0.387), economic (p=0.031 ; r=0.212), and educational (p=0.020 ; r=0.228) factors with nutritional status in pregnant women.Discussion: Technological, family support, cultural values, political & legal, economic, and educational factors influenced the nutritional status of pregnant women. The cultural factor was the most dominant in influencing the nutritional status of pregnant women.

Objectives: The study aimed to understand the practices and knowledge of riverside women regarding climacteric and self-care. Methodology: Descriptive exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, carried out with riverine women living in communities located along the left bank of the Amazon River. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews with 24 women aged between 40 and 65 years old. Leininger's thematic analysis method was used. Results: Twenty-four riverside dwellers participated in the study. Twenty (20) lived with a partner, twelve (12) did not have high school and nine (9) were housewives. Three categories were identified: 1) Riverside women: Perceiving and experiencing the climacteric/menopause 2) Riverside women and self-care experiences and 3) Riverside women experiencing health care systems. Women have knowledge about self-care, passed from generation to generation, and the use of medicinal plants. Final Considerations: Riverside women have knowledge about Climacteric and make use of popular knowledge and practices and the biomedical model for their self-care. The study reinforces the importance of bringing scientific and popular knowledge closer together, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences and, consequently, a better quality of life for riverside dwellers. Objetivos: El estudio tuvo como objetivo comprender las prácticas y conocimientos de las mujeres ribereñas en materia de climaterio y autocuidado. Metodología: Estudio exploratorio descriptivo, con enfoque cualitativo, realizado con mujeres ribereñas residentes en comunidades ubicadas a lo largo de la margen izquierda del río Amazonas. La recolección de datos se realizó mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas a 24 mujeres de entre 40 y 65 años. Se utilizó el método de análisis temático de Leininger. Resultados: Participaron en el estudio veinticuatro habitantes ribereños. Veinte (20) vivían en pareja, doce (12) no tenían bachillerato y nueve (9) eran amas de casa. Se identificaron tres categorías: 1) Mujeres de Riverside: Percibiendo y experimentando el climaterio / menopausia 2) Mujeres de Riverside y experiencias de autocuidado y 3) Mujeres de Riverside experimentando sistemas de salud. Las mujeres tienen conocimientos sobre el autocuidado, transmitidos de generación en generación, y el uso de plantas medicinales. Consideraciones finales: Las mujeres de Riverside tienen conocimientos sobre el climaterio y utilizan los conocimientos y prácticas populares y el modelo biomédico para su autocuidado. El estudio refuerza la importancia de acercar el conocimiento científico y popular, promoviendo el intercambio de conocimientos y experiencias y, en consecuencia, una mejor calidad de vida de los ribereños. Objetivos: O estudo teve como objetivos compreender as práticas e saberes das mulheres ribeirinhas relativas ao climatério e autocuidado. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo exploratório, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado com as mulheres ribeirinhas residentes em comunidades localizadas ao longo da margem esquerda do Rio Amazonas. A coleta de dados se deu através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, com 24 mulheres na faixa etária entre 40 e 65 anos de idade. Utilizou-se o método de análise temática de Leininger. Resultados: Participaram do estudo vinte e quatro ribeirinhas. Vinte (20) viviam com o companheiro, doze (12) não tinham ensino médio e nove (9) eram do lar. Foram identificadas três categorias: 1) Mulheres Ribeirinhas: Percebendo-se e experenciando o climatério/menopausa 2) Mulheres Ribeirinhas e as vivencias de autocuidado e 3) Mulheres ribeirinhas experienciando os sistemas de cuidado em saúde. As mulheres possuem saberes acerca do autocuidado, passados de geração a geração, e do uso das plantas medicinais. Considerações Finais: As mulheres ribeirinhas possuem conhecimento acerca do Climatério e lançam mão de saberes e práticas populares e do modelo biomédico para o seu autocuidado. O estudo reforça a importância da aproximação do saber científico com o popular, promovendo troca de saberes e experiências e consequentemente uma melhor qualidade de vida para as ribeirinhas.
