501. Rice Water Weevil Control with Granular Insecticides1

Studies to evaluate granular insecticides for control of Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus Kushel were conducted at Texas A & M University Agricultural Research and Extension Center from 1965 thru 1975. Bux® (m-(l-ethylpropyl) phenyl methylcarbamate (1–4) with m-(l-methyl=butyl) phenyl methylcarbamate) and carbofuran were found to be effective in preliminary tests. Time and rates of application studies with Bux indicate maximum larval control was obtained with rates of either 0.5 or 1.0 lb AI/acre made into the flood water 1 week postflood. Simular studies with carbofuran inclicate effective control with rates of 0.5 or 1.0 lb AI/acre applied either 1 or 2 weeks postflood. Maximum yield increases were obtained when the applications of insecticides were made 1 week postflood.
