Abstract

Technology constantly follows the needs of the marketplace. The current trend of producing digitally-aware environments keeps growing, and it is very likely that in the future we will be surrounded by many heterogeneous devices which communicate each other through distributed and wireless interfaces. We will see a new society of digital systems, whose individuals will be ubiquitous and heterogeneous systems interacting together and providing high productivity and great flexibility. Two technologies seem to be emerging to support this new paradigm: mobile data agents to handle the complexity and heterogeneity of networked infrastructures, and real-time reconfigurable systems to implement flexible, adaptable, and high performance individuals. Abstract

Abstract: NAND flash memories represent a key storage technology for solid-state storage systems. However, they suffer from serious reliability and endurance issues that must be mitigated by the use of proper error correction codes. This paper proposes the design and implementation of an optimized Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem hardware codec core able to adapt its correction capability in a range of predefined values. Code adaptability makes it possible to efficiently trade-off, in-field reliability and code complexity. This feature is very important considering that the reliability of a NAND flash memory continuously decreases over time, meaning that the required correction capability is not fixed during the life of the device. Experimental results show that the proposed architecture enables to save resources when the device is in the early stages of its lifecycle, while introducing a limited overhead in terms of area. Abstract

Memory testing commonly faces two issues: the characterisation of detailed and realistic fault models, and the definition of time-efficient test algorithms able to detect them. Among the different types of algorithms proposed for testing static random access memories (SRAMs), march tests have proven to be faster, simpler and regularly structured. The continuous evolution of the memory technology requires the constant introduction of new classes of faults, such as dynamic and linked faults. Presented here is March AB, a march test targeting realistic memory static linked faults and dynamic unlinked faults. Comparison results show that the proposed march test provides the same fault coverage of already published algorithms reducing the test complexity and therefore the test time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are emerging cryptographic primitives used to implement low-cost device authentication and secure secret key generation. Weak PUF s (i.e., devices able to generate a single signature or to deal with a limited number of challenges) are widely discussed in literature. One of the most investigated solutions today is based on SRAMs. However, the rapid development of low-power, high-density, high-performance SoCs has pushed the embedded memories to their limits and opened the field to the development of emerging memory technologies. The Spin-Transfer-Torque Magnetic Random Access Memory (STT-MRAM) has emerged as a promising choice for embedded memories due to its reduced read/write latency and high CMOS integration capability. In this article, we propose an innovative PUF design based on STT-MRAM memory. We exploit the high variability affecting the electrical resistance of the Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ) device in anti-parallel magnetization. We will demonstrate that the proposed solution is robust, unclonable, and unpredictable.

Abstract

Highly-reconfigurable component-based systems, i.e., systems that are built form existing components and are distributed in many versions and configurations, are becoming increasingly popular. The design and verification of such systems presents new challenges. In this paper we propose a design approach that facilitates analysis and testing of different configurations by identifying and tracking relations among requirements, logic components and resources. The approach proposed in the paper allows for easily identifying different dependencies among resources, components and requirements and thus spotting the tests that must be re-executed to assure the desired level of quality. © 2003 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
